if byler isn’t endgame I guess we’ll just have to accept that the show made for outcasts wrote a traumatized little kid to be deeply, deeply in love with his best friend (in a homophobic town. in the 80’s) and instead of making them both fall in love they used this troubled queer kid to bolster up and repair a slightly toxic straight relationship. on multiple occasions.

the only way that I can imagine them NOT making byler canon is if they just totally don’t address will’s love with mike. I know some writers make certain aspect to character that add to their background and are confirmed by the writers, but not addressed in the show. this scared me for a minute and then I remembered noah schnapp saying that they explore will’s sexuality in season 5 so all is well!

forever grateful for people who hyper-analyze every frame of media because the ONLY reason i am a full-fledged byler endgame truther is because after season four came out i saw a few tumblr threads ON PINTEREST about the heart eyes in the van scene and also "blue meets yellow in the west". so grateful for the smart wonderful people in this world.

i need churchgate so bad like it is literally BUILT for the bitches with internalized homophobia (mike). especially from religion likeeee. and it makes so much sense because there are set pictures of a church in the upside down, and eddie's whole story was driven by the whole "satanic panic" craze... that was rampant in hawkins specifically... because it's a conservative town with a LOT of christians.... so it's been established that hawkins is a christian conservative area.. also canon (might i add) that mike's parents voted for reagan. their "nuclear family" dynamic also really indicates that there's some sort of religious upbringing in the wheeler house. I just think it would heal mike so much idk. it would mean a lot to queer people who grew up in homophobic religious households. there's not a ton of evidence that this will happen but it's nice to think about. (if anyone has any other evidence for churchgate i would love to know)

a theory i’ve been thinking about for a while is that will is going to confess to mike and then mike is going to “reject” him.. then say really hurtful things, confirming what will believed.. and then you find out will’s getting vecna’d while mike desperately is trying to get his attention and get him back to reality. but since I think that mike is such a reasonable target for vecna, I think it would be interesting to see this the other way around. this would also signal to the audience IMMEDIATELY that mike is getting vecna’d too because we know will is in love with him and wouldn’t reject him.

byler makes so much sense to me, to the point that mike’s relationship with el solidifies it MORE, you know? will and mike were friends their entire life. best friends. the kind of close friends that were probably the reason lonnie called will slurs and thought he was gay. mike was searching for will. searching for ANYTHING to clue into the fact that he’s alive. even after seeing his body. in this process he found el. he didn’t care much for her. just for will. in season two he cared about finding el, sure. but he didn’t care about that more than he cared about protecting will. in season three mike got older and started to get more serious with el, effectively pushing will away. mike’s aversion to will increasing when he gets more serious with his girlfriend? that’s weird. ALSO he was getting older, and maybe started to realize that what he was feeling for will wasn’t “normal” and he wanted to get as far from that feeling as possible. el is just his “solution” to his feelings for will, which is why his care for el gets in the way of his care for will, and not for dustin and lucas. even though they’re all three his “best friends”
