Dave Barry 3057064. A collection of sites and designs I like. I am only starting out in design and loving it so far. I have learned a lot so far from both lecturers and classmates.

My logo assignment. I think I learned a lot from our Visual Communications lectures that I could bring into my Desktop Publishing assignment. Particularly for the logo assignment. It's simple and basic but I’m getting there I think.

This is a low res sample of my typography poster that I made for college. It's probably less typography when I look at at it now. I am still pretty proud of it for a couple of reasons. Its the first poster I ever did and I learned a couple of new tricks during the process. The light effect and the snow. The snow is literally just a couple of circles, blurred, layered and saved as a brush preset. I felt like I sent a rocket to the moon when I got the snow effect I was looking for. A novice’s little wins :)
I never did a design report before so I learned during this process what exactly is expected. I am really enjoying the course now.

Dan Cassero is a master of Typography. Being a design novice I found typography one of the most difficult at the beginning. The work being produced by his design studio is fantastic. A lot of it is mainly typography based, he manages to capture the essence of the brands using words and simple design.

A very cool design by a designer called Richard Perez. The simple design does not really need much explaining but in one take he’s captured love, diversity, equality and freedom all on one simple graphic.

Another sample of of a minimalistic logo design. I think until I get the hang of design and until I become very comfortable, I will be keeping my designs simple and following the less is more route.

I’m learning sometimes that less is more, especially when you are starting off. Learn first and build on that. Its great that there is some cross over with our visual communication lectures and desktop publishing with logo design. The lectures complement each other very well.

A very good blog complimenting all of Dara’s lectures to date. It discusses proximity, balance and repetition. It took a while but its all beginning to make sense now. Still a novice though :)

Some of the images that I took for our Image assignment. each assignment I do, I am seeing what I could have done different and I am getting a little better. I am happy with this assignment and end result. Onwards and upwards.

Design trends for 2021. I am still learning design but I suppose I better start keeping with what's going on in the industry.

As I mention before I didn't do great on the typography assignment. I am was happy with the poster but I didn't follow the brief to the number. Here is a very simple design by Aiko Idio. Just simple shapes and typography with warm colors. I think sometimes students new to design try to over complicate their designs at the beginning. I’m learning that sometimes less is more.

I struggled a little bit with the typography poster and typography in general during lectures. I have a little bit of a better understanding now after going back over my college lectures. Here is a great blog with some great Typography packaging designs.

I love this. I am hoping to learn how to do something similar for my Film poster. Mine would be more of a double exposure but similar in some ways. Looking at what can be done, even at the Novice stage that I am at is really exciting.

Very simple design but it perfectly captures, youth, diversity, trend, ambition. The design was by Daniela Tomanova. Look at the subjects arm inside and outside of the logo.
