kim sunoo has been your best friend since kindergarten. you were a foreigner in a country so new to you, yet he was the first one to accept you, for you. the other kids soon came to like you too, but it was sunoo who made you feel welcomed, seen, as a five year old.

now, in college, that bond is stronger than ever. you both are attached to the hip, always having weekend plans together.

except this time you had to cancel the weekend plans. finals were coming up, and you were a complete wreck. your room askew, studio apartment a mess. empty containers everywhere—when you did remember to eat.

sunoo was worried about you. well worried was an understatement. he wanted to pull his locks out of his head.

sunoo knew you were hard on yourself, especially with your education. anything below an “A” was unacceptable, and your parents made that clear. it started in middle school when your foreign parents realized that education was more important than your well being.

it got only worse during high school, when they demanded nothing below an A. honestly, they’d only be happy with 100’s on all work.

the first “C” you ever gotten was first year of college in a history class. you cried, and begged the professor for a redo. your parents hadn’t even known about the grade, they didn’t have to know, but it’s like they conditioned you to only want A’s yourself.

“what are you still doing up?” he scolded, but from the other side, frowned once he heard your sniffles. he was wide awake now and sat up in his bed, already up finding clothing to pull on.

“it hurts sunoo. my side, i—i think my appendix may be—,” you cried out, unable to finish.

“i’m on my way now.” sunoo said and didn’t even hang up as he rushed to your place. thankfully, you were only two buildings over from him.

at 9 am that morning, you found yourself in a hospital bed, sunoo right next to you. groggily, you moaned, and went to sit up, but scrunched your face in discomfort.

sunoo quickly sat up, “babe, it’s okay. just lay down.” he slowly pushed your shoulders down to have you lie back down.

once sunoo entered your apartment after punching in your code, he found you hobbled over in the living room in so much pain. he drove you to the hospital and found that indeed, your appendix had ruptured and you needed emergency surgery.

“why don’t i remember?”

sunoo smiled sweetly, his bright aura already cheering you up and bringing you comfort. he grabbed your hands in his, “you were in too much pain. once i brought you to the emergency room, they quickly figured out what happened. gave you some pain meds and took you back for surgery.”

you smiled instantly. “thank you for staying by me.”

“pft, of course. who else is going to make sure your grown ass takes care of herself?”

kim sunoo, has always been your comfort. through bad grades, parents yelling, your first breakup, even when you got your first period. he was always there, and you were never afraid to tell him anything.
