Larry Simpson used to work in the sewing room of a disability enterprise. From 9am to 2pm, three days a week, he would count and sort bags of laundry from local hotels and hospitals. Hi hi! I am nearly halfway through my reread of Livy and figured that was a good place to pause and share some nonsensical and silly thoughts lmao

- Book 22 is the Ultimate Book of Trashtalking. Seriously, so many people get fucking nailed in this book, very entertaining.

- 23.22 kills me so much because Livy looooves to write out the longest fucking speeches to the point of making some up, but when it comes to Carvilius’ speech… just a summary will suffice. Guy’s playing favourites and he’s not even subtle.

- 23.23– Buteo man that you are lmao. Average Twitter user, gave his opinions on the state of affairs and then dipped. Mad lad.

- My edition has a typo in 23.26 and I genuinely thought I was losing my mind attempting to decipher if ‘svanihed’ was a word or not. My dad and I (who both have literature degrees) were puzzling over the page for a couple minutes before we decided it wasn’t, in fact, a word and that we weren’t just stupid. It’s… vanished, it’s supposed to be vanished ;-;

- 23.31– I think the bad omens sections are some of my favourite. They’re so much fun to me, ‘this went wrong and this went wrong, and this was so fucking weird that it had to be an omen of Something.’

- 23.47– When I was about twelve, I had an eccentric teacher who would quote “a gelding in a ditch? I think not!” frequently, so this passage has always been very dear to me.

- 24.2 has one of my favourite, very blunt footnotes which sums up the entire account, I think: “Livy exaggerates this.” Ain’t that the truth.

- 24.4– “It had not been easy for a man in his ninetieth year, surrounded, as Hiero was, day and night by feminine blandishments”… I don’t remember why I highlighted this, truth be told. Perhaps just because it’s a funny phrase, perhaps because we should all strive towards having more feminine blandishments in our lives.

- 24.34– All I have written for this is, ‘in comes Archimedes with a steel chair!’ and I think that’s beautiful.

- 24.42– “However, the family of the Barcae were born fighters and it was in their blood to set a tottering cause on its feet again”… another passage which sums up the entire proceedings, I think.

- 24.49– “This is the only occurrence of that year in Spain which is worth recording.” My only note on this highlighted passage is ‘sassy bitch,’ and again, that’s beautiful.

- 25.3– Shipwreck Scams are very entertaining to me personally. “These two scoundrels, taking advantage of the assumption by the state of all risks from tempest in the case of goods carried by sea to armies in the field, had been reporting imaginary shipwrecks, while even such losses as actually occurred were often due not to accident but to deliberate sabotage.” That’s so fucking funny on its own, but the way it’s narrated makes it all the more better. And then: “The tax-farmers, seeing they would get little support from [Casca], determined to wreck proceedings themselves. Shoulder to shoulder, like troops breaking through the enemy’s line, they thrust their way into the space left by the crowd when it was ordered to stand back, hurling insults as they went at people and tribunes alike.” ICONS.

And, unrelated to the actual content of the text, I got this copy at a used book store and it has the wonderfully delightful smell of old pages (it’s from the 70’s and likely hasn’t been opened since then) and someone had left an old airplane boarding pass within the pages, which I now use as a bookmark! Feel very much like a voyeur of some kind but it’s so neat.

Powrót po dwóch latach, tak bardzo nie chciałam tutaj wracać ale czuję że nie widzę innej opcji dla siebie.

W tym roku wylądowałam w szpitalu psychiatrycznym na 9 tygodni gdzie zdiagnozowano u mnie depresję,nerwicę lękową i zaburzenia osobowości (mieszane) czy najgorszy okres w moim życiu? Myślę że tak jednak nie złamało mnie to i na ten moment mogę powiedzieć że czuję się dobrze, przed szpitalem miewałam ciągły niepokój, lęki i ataki paniki które były ze mną cały czas w ciągu dnia, było tylko dobrze gdy spałam.

Po odejściu stąd dwa lata temu warzyłam 70kg, wtedy stwierdziłam że muszę z tym skończyć, mierze 178 i mimo że ta waga wydaje się spora przy moim wzroście wyglądałam tak jak chciałam. Dziś jednak warze 98kg i jest to największa waga jaką miałam w życiu, myślałam że wiem co to znaczy wstręt do siebie przecież nie raz przez to przechodziłam jednak ten rodzaj wstrętu to jest coś innego. Chodzę tylko w dwóch spodniach bo tylko w te się mieszczę tak samo z reszta ze wszystkimi ciuchami, stojąc pod prysznicem czuję się jak wieloryb, nie wspomnę o spojrzeniu w lustro, moment w którym patrzę na swoją twarz i siebie nie poznaję, przecież moja twarz nigdy nie była taka duża nigdy tak nie wyglądałam.

Te dwa lata były dla mnie ciężkie, dużo przeszłam i musiałam się wyprowadzić z domu rodzinnego na swoje, teraz po roku bycia w tym nowym gniazdku zamieszkał ze mną mój chłopak. Cieszę się że mieszkamy razem przecież tak bardzo tego chcieliśmy jednak z nim ciągle jem (wszystko co się da), nie ruszam się i ciągle leżę, palę ciągle thc i przez to łapie mnie gastro i znów jem.

Pisząc to w głowie mam „ej przecież problem się sam rozwiązał przestań palić, jeść i się w końcu rusz z dupskiem” a ciało odmawia i przez to mam jeszcze bardziej wstręt do siebie

Heavy Tf2 x Reader Drabble/Imagine(fluff)

A sleepless night turns into soft snores after Heavy reads for you in his mother tongue.

Imagine being unable to sleep after a long day of battling, knowing you'll be back at it again tomorrow. You know you need your sleep- Medic has reminded you countless times, the hypocrite he is- yet no matter how you toss and turn, you simply can't fall asleep.

You lie in bed, staring up at the ceiling in wonder. Maybe a small midnight snack may help? You take another few minutes to push yourself out of bed, your sore body reminding you how desperate you are for it to shut off for the night. "Your body heals best when it's asleep, you know!" Medic's words ring in your ears as you drag yourself to the kitchen.

The soft light from the kitchen nightlight floods the area, but you notice another light on. This one has more of a warm-yellowish tone, and you recognize it as the reading lamp. You get a slight view of heavy's arm as you pass by, it seems he's alone reading in the living room. You decide not to bug him as you quietly make yourself some food. You don't feel any sleepier, but it's sure to start helping in a bit, right?

As you walk out of the kitchen, stomach a little happier, Heavy's hushed voice calls out to you.

"Is (class name) having trouble sleeping?"

You pause, and then take a step towards the living room.

"Yeah, you know how it is sometimes."

He offers you a nod and focuses back on his book. Before you can walk away, he gestures towards the empty space beside him,

"Come sit."

Well, it's not like you have a meeting you have to attend at this ungodly hour, so you slowly make your way over.

"Would it help if Heavy reads?"

You think for a moment. You're not used to hearing his voice in such a gentle, quiet tone, and you have to admit it's quite soothing.

"It might."

He began to read, and you can tell how much more comfortable he is speaking in his mother tongue. You may have no idea what he's saying, but it's calming- quite the contrast to what you're used to hearing at the base. It almost feels as if you two are the only two alive, besides the plants and animals that can sometimes be heard.

It doesn't take long before Heavy notices soft snores coming from you, and the weight of you leaning on his arm.

Once he gets to the end of his book, he takes a minute to pay attention to you, afraid of waking your slumber. It seems you're out cold when he carefully picks you up, bringing you back to your room.

He gently tucks you in with a stuffie that Pyro had given you, letting his hand linger on your cheek for a moment.

"Good night, (merc name). Sleep well."

With that said i need to add here a lil update: i will be out of town on a convention on 14 and 15. This won't affect the poll much, i did my best to make some polls before hand and schedule them on these days + a day before and after, so i can prepare and unwind with no worries. But what it means is that we will have ony one poll a day this weekend, i won't be able to add winners on those days on the poll next day and i might not be able to anwser slughunters during that time. I'm so sorry, i know that it's not the best, especially since we just had a week long break on the poll.
