So erm. Funny story. Uh. I'm using the same reference I made nearly a year ago for the Tongues and Teeth animatic. The colours are different for thumbnails but I'm using the same sheet for design.

Theories and Headcannons Pt. 24

So a week ago we got a little teaser from Martyn about hints for the next Life Series season, around an hour after we got another subtle clue from Cherrifire, a commissioned arist of Martyn and Grian for their thumbnails. Moving onto four days later where in a Phasmo stream with GIGS, Grian althought not explicitly, teased the recording of a certain something. That something most likely being the next installment of the Life Series as he previously stated during the aftermath of the Ender Cup, that the next season was in development. So now four months later, and with the release of that little crumb of information you would think it would be the last. But approximately an hour ago (of the time writing this), Scar drops a bombshell of information as a GIF of traffic lights blinking.

Effectively reinforcing the possibility of the next season arriving extremely soon as traffic lights is a predominant symbol of the Life Series with the three-life system of green, yellow, and red matching with the known pattern of traffic lights. Hence traffiblr also referring to the Life Series.

With the date of the next season of the Life Series been generally confirmed, the twist of this subsequent still remains unknown. But by disecting each post from credible sources (Inthelittlewood, Cherrifire and GoodtimewithScar), it's possible to gain a sliver of understanding about the next gimmick for this upcoming season.

Starting with Martyn's post, his reponse to a question regarding the Life series were a series of rhyming verses otherwise known as a couplet. His reponse goes as:

"Nope. Not a slither, not a slice, not a hint, not a price,

not a right, not a wrong, not a verse, not a song,

not a fork, not a list, not a fog, not a mist,

not a shine, not a spree, not a thing from me"

With lines and words like not a slither, slice, hint, verse, list and not a thing from me commonly used in other media to express a concept that is left unsaid or unexplained to conceal or hide information. Other phrases like not a price, right, wrong, song, fork, fog, mist, shine and not a spree seem unusual and seem only used to act as rhyming words. But since this couplet's rhyming patterns goes like (word) (rhyming word) (word) (rhyming word), words like price, wrong, song, mist and spree can be eliminated only leaving right, fork, fog and shine used for clues.

Words like fog and shine can be connected easily with the concept of revealing something concealed by layers of dense things with the good or "light". Maybe uncovering the lore of the Watcher's to the rest of the participants as the right path taken since the Watcher has a lasting cameo in the previous Life Series. It would be poetic as the fifth installment of the Life Series that the Watchers would return as an antagonist force. The way fork is incoporated into this theory is the mannered and dignified repute it carries where in the eleventh century, it was considered prestigous or vain to use a fork. Similar to the Watchers and the means they present themselves.

Other theories like @strychninesss 's double life 2 utilises the couplet's use of repition and pairs to conlclude the return of the soulmate gimmick with its repeatability and new possibilities with the pairing of new soulmates.

Our second poem arrived from Martyn's accomplice Cherrifire, with her reply to his cryptid poem was to produce another poem herself and that being:

"Oh, well in that case you're not getting a peep, not even a taste of the secrets I keep.

Of course, I could tell you all I know, but it's way more fun to give you a show.

Or perhaps this is all a trick, and Martyn’s just being a— very mean person.

Whatever it may be, you'll just have to wait and see."

With this poem following the rhythmic pattern of (Rhyming) (Rhyming), the couplet mainly focuses on the information Cherri deliberately chooses to withold and the her dilemma to diclose her details to fandom. In the end, she decides to hold the spoilers and express her intrest into the chaos that can produced with limited clues given before the said show begins.

Well the structure and the style of the poem is reminiscient of how the Watchers approach and address the members of Evolution SMP back in 2017. With the Watchers depicted as this all-knowing beings that can see everything and perceive all things, they often speak in this entitled mannerisim due to their privileged abilities. And with the legacy of the Watchers being continued but altered with every iteration or headcannon of them, they have commonly been altered into these beings that revel in the chaos and angst produced by the participants of the Life Series. This message could be a warning to the fans that the Watcher's could play a more major role compared to the Secret Keeper in Secret Life as a tribute to the four seasons and three years of the Life Series.

These statements revealed by Grian, Scar, Martyn and Cherrifire has just almost confirmed the arrival of the season five for the Life Series be very soon. Although there is the possibility Grian could be hyping us up for an entirely different video that collaborates with other mcytbers, evidence piles to point towards the next installment coming hopefully, next week.

🍑 If you could make a connection between your favorite character and another work you care about (whether a crossover/fusion or a wonderfully “pretentious” literary reference) what would it be? How would it work?

AJKDSLFJ okay so this is already like. half of what i write. Funeralverse spawned out of phasmo. Oberth Maneuver is obvious. I wrote that one ender's game fusion that's still maybe some of my best c!tommy dialogue. but the one of these I have in my head but haven't (finished) writing is a dsmp/asimov's robots fusion fic based on small bits of Liar! and The Bicentenial Man but mostly Feminine Intuition. It features c!tommy as an intuitive robot and wilbur as the chief robopsychologist with various other ensemble people taking on roles as scientists Tommy's being exposed to to try and figure out what direction humankind should be looking for alien life. All about how people get so attached to robots—Asimov says in the forward to like... uh. I think fucking... Robot Visions? (I'm too lazy to go pick up my copy and check if that's the one but it's one of 'em) that he thinks of his robots as an engineering problem, but I think the human element is the most interesting part of his stories! So it's about that. I've got like. 600 words done in a doc somewhere it's just waiting for it's turn to be the central WIP. I'm gonna do it someday.

🍍 What kind of AUs do you like? Are there any AUs you hate or just generally have beef with?

Uhh I Mostly don't like soulmate AUs, I guess. I tend to like writing sci fi aus but I don't often like reading them, idk why. I LOVE reading superhero AUs even though I haven't tried to write any. Also like reading fantasy/magic aus, even though I don't tend to like fantasy books? But I mean I'll try almost anything and I tend to care much more about execution of an idea than an Idea.

🍇Is there a particular scene/episode/book/etc that you want to just write a million fics about, over and over? Which one?

Cheater answer is the cactus ring, which. I mean. I've written.... 5 fics about it? And will probably write more? But recently.... While I'm in my Henry V (1989) era, the bit after the battle of Agincourt when Henry pulls Montjoy to the ground. There's just So Much packed into that little bit. I've just been finding it hard to figure out what I'm doing there lmao.

Im posting 10 (thats right, ten!) drawings today, and 5 tomorrow!! (hopefully!) that way, I can just post one final drawing on Halloween!! I didn't fully think this schedule out tbh... but thats okay! I think this'll work fine, Im just ensuring you all know :D

as for how I'll post after October... we'll have to see!! I *might* do novelember! but I also might instead of daily prompts combine them into one per week or generally do less, just because I can't write as fast as I draw! “HELL FUCK OFF I DON’T WANT TO SEE GHOSTS Y/N I HATE IT HERE” he would yell at you and leave your shared-gaming room. This made you think of a way of actually making him play with you that scary game. The game in question: Phasmophobia. Yes, the one you’re bad at. Not really bad at, you just die because of your mates and therefore you’re bad at it.

Three small facts about Phasmophobia. One, it’s game where you and up to three other people are exploring paranormal activitites as investigators at haunted buildings and houses. Two, the ghost can be very aggressive or shy – depends on the ghost type. Three, there are two possibilities: You either win and get every clue right and earn some money, or, you could die by getting hunted by the ghost and are not able anymore to talk to your friends.

However, since you were mad at your friends for always making you die first and loose everything – you bought the entire equipment, you would be tired playing with them for now. Last time really was enough for you – and Sunwoo, in some way. You would be muttering “It’s just a game he says, oh did you die he says, KIM SUNWOO. CAN YOU PLEASE COME HERE FOR A SECOND” you would yell from your seat in your gaming room. Some time would pass and you figure out he is probably having his in-ears in and couldn’t hear you. So, you made your way to him – not really knowing where he is, but still found him lying on the couch in a very comfortable position. At first glance you would forget about the stupid game and just want to cuddle him. But no, you’re not allowed to NOW. ‘screw it Y/N, you can cuddle later’. You took a pillow and threw it at him at full-speed (KEEP AWAY reference). To your surprise though, he caught it and gave you a ‘Seriously?’ stare. Checkmate. 2:1 for Sunwoo. There goes your sweet revenge. Maybe another time. ‘gotta catch him off-guard in Phasmo anyways, or well the ghost will’. “Yah, Y/N, why were you throwing a pillow at me, huh? Did you really think I didn’t just catch you staring at me from there, huh? By the way, I heard you but I was like ‘Nah not right now, I wanna get some sleep” Another checkmate.

“KIM SUNWOO YOU-” you started but Sunwoo stopped you. “Y/L/N Y/N YOU” he would mock you in a very funny way. “Yah, what do you want, ghostie? Did your friends tell you to suffer on your own? Poor thing” he would say while cuddling the pillow you threw at him minutes ago. Your hand would form a fist right now after hearing him say his last phrase. You would take a deep breath before speaking again. “Nooo, but actually, since you mentioned it. What about you joining us in the next session? Like a…. double date?” “Very romantic, Y/N. Wow, DIDN’T I TELL YOU THAT I HATE GHOSTS? Do you remember I was screaming for help when I was in a haunted house with my members, huh? Do you want to see me suffer so- OH MY I GOT IT!” He would gasp and continue. “Oh my, poor thing, do you think that I wouldn’t figure out why you would ask me? You want to make me suffer instead of you. Hah. Gotcha. But nope, I have to say no, sadly. I am not interested in ghosts” You would pout at his statement and would give him your doe eyes. “Y/N, no. Don’t try to seduce me now PLEASE. You know I can’t resist you staring at me like that- B-But I still hate ghosts so-” You would come closer to him so you’re just a few inches apart and grab his hands while staring at his eyes “I WILL PROTECT YOU SUNWOO. I WILL TRY TO! THE GHOSTS WON’T GET YOU. PLEASE I JUST WANT TO SPEND SOME TIME WITH YOU AND MY FAVORITE GAME :((((((“ You would plead. He would look at you with his mouth open before saying. “Alright. But on one condition, just one game. I am cursing at you inside right now but...for the sake of your goddamn cuteness, I will. If I flinch I will stop immediately though, got that?” You would nod and give him a tons of kisses across his face. He would love your affection by the way. That’s another thing he could never say no to.

Bingo. You were high-fiving yourself inside and prepared everything. Sadly, your friend told you that she won’t be able to join you. You didn’t tell Sunwoo though. You were kinda glad she canceled your Phasmo-night because that would mean you would have your eyes all the time fixed on Sunwoo trying to play the game. And no one else. He’s seated right besides you, brought some drinks and sweets some seconds ago and is now staring curiously at you. “So...what do we do now? Is your friend ready as well?” You took his hands again in yours and looked at him, giving him a look. “Hell no- Don’t tell me it’s canceled? YES OH MY GOD NO SUFFERING FROM ME TODAY HAHAHA-” you punched him at his comment and gave him a stare. “Ah, sorry, I was just so excited because that means we d-” You put your hand on his mouth, making him stop speaking. “It means we do play. Duo rounds. Never heard of that? And besides, if I die I can just stretch my arm and pinch you. That’s already enough for me, my love.” He gave you a disgusted look and sighed. “Alright, alright. So, go on. Y-You need to tell me how things work though, you can’t expect me to be a professional like you- OW?! Stop pinching me????” “NO. You know what, I won’t tell you how things work, it’s probably always better to experience things anyways. And by the way, If you die, don’t cling onto me you crybaby!” He would scoff and smirk. “Weren’t you actually sobbing today after you played with your friends? Weren’t you the one who was pointing at the screen and said”, he put his finger up in the air to mock you, “These losers are at fault. I bought everything. I lost everything. Huh?” You would stare at him and start the game on both monitors and made sure to check everything is set up.

“Alright, hmmm, let me have a look. I think it’s better if I do the lobby since you’re probably confused with everything that you see right now” you would shoot him a look and notice him rolling his eyes. “Alright, no answer is also an answer.” You smile to yourself. After creating the lobby, you would give him the code – and he is already freaking out because of the sounds and when you told him he should get closer to the door on the right, he would loose it completely. “YAH Y/N THIS WASN’T IN OUR AGREEMENT. I- HOW CAN YOU DO THIS TO ME?” You would laugh and he looks at you in disbelief. “Sorry, it’s just so funny seeing you all stiffen up because of a damn girl scaring you” “Well, I am scared everyday when I wake up and see you besides me” he would say. You would gasp. He clears his throat, “Anyways, let’s just get this done. And yah, when we’re finished, can we cuddle? I need some distraction from all this afterwards, you owe me anyways” You would still be fazed by his comment from before and just stare at him. “Yea, yea, we can do that. But for now, let’s begin!”

You would choose ‘beginner’ and ‘tanglewood street house’, since it was the easiest and probably most organized house – he would still be making a scene of how it would look inside but hey, it’s Sunwoo after all. Because of that, you would consider choosing ‘nightmare’ and ‘asylum’ but you would feel bad afterwards so you let it be. “Alright, so, here in the van you can see what he have to do. If you click ‘J’ on the keyboard, you open the journal and there you have everything as well, you can have a look at all of the ghosts, look at the pictures and so on. By the way, the name of the ghost is Mark Johnson, he speaks to everyone. If you click on V you will sound like a walkie-talkie, try it.” You encourage him. He would have so much fun clicking V -  he would do it on purpose and even goes as far as this. “Hello, can I order some chicken nuggets? Some Kimchi would be nice as well. Thank you~” or even, “Knock knock” you would need to hide a smile. He goes again, “Knock, knock”.. No response. “YAH Y/N, I AM TALKING TO YOU??? After getting to the garage and you would tell that there are a lot of caulks, he would ask to repeat it again since it sounded really…...wrong, to say at least. “Y/N you’re really something else sometimes. We are in need of exploring this haunted place and you are really….are you kidding?” (Caulk sounds like this certain body part on men) He would shake his head continuously while you would be having the time of your life.

As time goes by, you guys would have 2 clues so far – you need to get three in total to successfully end the game. Sunwoo would often cry out for help and yell at the ghost for existing, which you think is adorable and hilarious at the same time. “YAH YOU STUPID GHOST, WHY ARE YOU HERE? GET THE FUCK OFF AND DON’T EVER SCARE ME AGAIN!” To your surprise, you found the music box. The music box is one of 6 possessions you can get it a game – spawns randomly, only one of six. This possession will – as the name already says – play some music and will trigger a hunt. In addition, you can find out where the ghost is standing right now since it will sing along in a very disturbing way. You thought to yourself ‘hmmm.. if I let Sunwoo hold it and tell him to stand in the hallway and hide in the wardrobe, everything could go smooth. Maybe.

Therefore you told him about it and he was hesitating at first – he didn’t fully believe you when you apparently said that “the music box will play a really cool song, and if I am not wrong, you can even talk to it to play a certain song, you should try it!” But still, since you gave him your cutest pout again, he did it anyways. The only bad thing? You forgot to step out of the house and died, leaving Sunwoo alone in the game as an investigator. “Y/N? You look at him and think for a while – he easily could die, that’s what you thought since he almost got killed in the damn wardrobe because the ghost opened both sides of it. “Well, right now we have ‘Ghost writing’ and ‘emf 5’….that means we could only deal with a Spirit, Shade or Myling. Well, I didn’t see any fingerprints before so I don’t think it will be a Myling. Try to speak with Mark by using the ghost box. Oh, and take the thermometer with you, as well. It’s either this or that. I suggest going in again and right to the kitchen to see if it’s freezing temperatures.” He would glare at you. “You want to see me dying, don’t you? You’re lucky I love you and do this right now, so here I go.” He takes step in and the ghost would instantly let the lights flicker. He would panic. You could even see the panic in his face.

“Sunwoo-ah, you can do this~! It’s just a game remember? You even said the exact same thing to me when I died, so...” He responds without looking at you, “Alright, alright. I get it. Don’t shove my words in my face right now, will you?” He reaches the kitchen and tries to talk to the ghost. “Hello? Hello, who are you?” You would facepalm yourself at his question. “Yah, answer me, Mark. Who are you, where are you, how many fingers am I holding up?” This is absolutely hilarious, you thought. When having a look at the screen, you would actually see smoke coming up, meaning it’s freezing! In other words, if he knew about the smoke, he could actually pack up and leave the house. “Y/N, give me more questions, he ain’t answering. Is the ghost even considered human, still? Is it an ‘it’ or is it still a ‘he’ I need to know, I don’t want to sound rude when talking” He would ask you. You would laugh at his question. “Well, you do realize it also could be freezing temperatures, right? Just switch to the thermometer by clicking ‘Q’.” When he heard ‘Q’ he instantly went, “Yoo, Is Changmin-hyung making an cameo? Wow, he is famous! He would love it, geez.” You hold in your laugh. “Ah? OHHHH IT’S BELOW ZERO!!!!!! Y/N I THINK I KNOW WHAT IT IS. It’s considered freezing right?????” He would say with excitement. “Yea, that’s right. Wow, you’re a fast learner. I’m surprised!” He would nudge you from the side at your comment. “Ahhhh, now let me get out of here real quick before it starts hunting again. It’s enough that you died, like can you imagine? The ghost hunting again after killing you?” “Kim Sunwoo, are you saying that I’m their only prey? I am-” you fake gasp.

He made it out and got into the van. “YAY I DID IT OH MY GOD. LET ME GET OUT OF THERE NOW. WHERE DO I HAVE TO CLICK??” he would ask. After telling him to press ‘J’ again and choose ‘Shade’ as the final guessed ghost type, you would tell him to press the button besides to van door. Seconds later he is back in the lobby. “Wow, that was actually cool.. But, like I said. The first and the last time I touched this...game” He’d say and shut down his computer. You would join and get up as well in order to get to the bedroom since it was pretty late. He would grab you by your waist and lets you hit the mattress gently. “Alright, Y/N. Remember what I said before?” he asked while hovering over you. “Hmm, you said a lot today actually. Help me out?” you’d grin. “Ah, Y/N, I said that you owe me. A lot. You put me through hell today. And now you will get punished for it” He would say before attacking you with kisses all over your face. You guys end up tangled up together, clinging onto each other and slowly fall asleep.

Same anon as before, I thought of a better way to explain my ask. Because I don't think using Voldemort as reference is a good idea cuz now that I'm older I realize that Voldemort isn't the smartest villain. Like what was Voldemort's endgame anyway? So let's use another popular villain whose endgame is clear. MCU's Thanos.

Thanos' endgame is doing the snap, that's his ultimate goal, getting the gauntlet and the stones is the process he needs to go through to get there. The only reason he came face to face with the Avengers during that process was because either one of them or someone close to them had one of the stones or knew where it was and they went all like "Oh, no sir. You won't." But if none of the Avengers (or someone close to them) had or knew about the stones they would've been as confused as everyone else as soon as everyone around them started disappearing.

Now, let's go back to MHA. What is AFO's endgame? As far as we know right now, it's getting OFA back. What does he need to do to get there? Getting a stronger body (Shiragaki's) and defeat the user of OFA (All Might/Deku).

What does U.A have? They don't have All Might (and we know he doesn't care about him anymore, I mean he probably still wants to kill him). They don't have Shigaraki (even if U.A had a villain held hostage he probably would only care if it's Shigaraki or Machia) and they don't have Deku (current holder of OFA). So why go there?

There are various kinds of villains, but the ones we tend to see the most are the reckless ones and the smart ones. A reckless villain would be like: Well, Hero Killer was killing heroes last month, hence the name, but now, he's killing quirkless people and robbing banks. And everyone is like: Wtf, that doesn't make any sense! What's his deal? - Idk, man. Go ask him.

A reckless villain is a villain whose pattern you can't identify. As far as we have seen (especially recently with Lady Nagant and Dictator) is that AFO is a smart villain. The ones that by the time you realize wth is going on they're already 5 steps ahead of you.

So, the only way I see AFO going to U.A (without Deku being there) it's like this:

My point is... U.A is a double-edged sword at this point. Deku being there it's dangerous, Deku not being there it's dangerous. Yes, there are heroes and heroes in training in there, but there are also civilians in there. The families of these heroes are there. So, if U.A ends up being the place of the final battle (like Hogwarts) it's gonna be bad. Like Deku's mom could die, Bakugou's dad, Todoroki's siblings, Ochaco's parents, Tensei. Heck, Eri!

It dosen't matter how much I twist it, U.A is a big red flag right now.

Using UA as a lure would be a great idea, but I think AFO definitely has more on his mind for Deku. Speaking on it, the reason AFO couldn't take OFA had a lot to do with Deku's willpower, so breaking that is step one to taking OFA. AFO is playing the long con in this particular situation, and it's likely his goal is to mentally and physically weaken Deku so that when he goes to take it again, it will be easy for him to do so.

Deku has been stalked and attacked by several assassins and he's running on fumes after all this. Mentally and Physically? Deku is barely scraping by. If this were a round of Phasmo his sanity percentage would be like... 12% lmfao

Attacking UA? Perfect. For me, I don't consider UA to be a location, I consider it to be a game piece. If I were AFO, UA would be a pawn for me. Something worth getting rid of if it meant getting that checkmate because AFO is actually an evil, evil bastard. Anyway, Deku left his mom at UA with the Class 1-A members, trusting they would all be safe in UA's walls and away from him. This would be the perfect point to royally decimate Deku. Class 1-A being defeated at Kamino is something Deku can put in the slot of: well, fuck they got attacked but it's because they were with me :(

But he wouldn't be able to categorize UA getting attacked and his mom getting hurt under the file labeled "This is my fault, because I'm here." if Deku is away from UA when it happens. Now is the perfect time for an attack on UA. Deku is in a bad mental place and his physical condition is pure garbage, so if AFO were to launch an attack on UA while Deku is clearly incapable of defending it? That would destroy Deku.

UA is a playing piece, and I think AFO is about to sacrifice it. I don't think the final battle will be at UA and I don't think it will be at Kamino either.

What I can say is, UA has remained relatively untouched (to our knowledge and there's nothing suggesting otherwise), probably because of its defense systems and the fact that it's considered a safe house for civilians right now. I'd guess that they have Pro Hero protection on top of whatever bullshit system they put in per Nezu. Plus, prior to Class 1-A abandoning UA to come get Deku, they had the protection of students deemed capable enough to have licenses.

UA was an absolute fortress during that time period because there was no fucking way the kids were gonna let their families get hurt on their watch. But that's the thing now isn't it? They aren't there.

For me, AFO attacking UA was never in question. It was always a question of When?

not to be a nerd but . ok so phasmo takes a bunch of japanese myth/folk creatures, i think 7 in total, and exactly none of them are accurate. only three are even classifiable as ghosts to begin with. this is also definitely true for some of the other ghost types it uses but i'm interested in japanese folklore specifically soooo you get the infodump.

at this point phasmo's idea of all of these creatures is so far removed from what they actually are that it's impossible to make them accurate representations (bc the majority of them are not ghosts, don't haunt houses, or both). i'd love to see phasmo add more diverse names and models though - doesn't even have to be specific to the culture of the ghost type, bc it'd make it immediately obvious which type some ghosts are, but like. have a pool that at least has the OPTION to not be white people lmao and maybe introduce gender specific ghosts bc at least one of these are female-only (granted i don't play phasmo myself just watch streams so maybe that IS a thing but i'm pretty sure it's not)

yokai refers to... well, as i just wrote an essay about, it's very difficult to pin down exactly what yokai are. to give a VERY basic overview, they encompass most japanese supernatural creatures/monsters except ghosts. they are most decidedly NOT ghosts. so it is very extremely funny to me that they are "common" ghosts in phasmophobia that haunt houses when that's like as far from what yokai actually are as you're gonna get. for what yokai does include, basically think of every other japanese creature you've heard of. kitsune? kappa? tengu? oni? yes. yokai can even include tsukumogami, or household objects that come to life after a hundred years. look at this funky umbrella guy (kasa-obake). some can be humanoid too, like the yuki-onna (a snow spirit), but they are NOT ghosts! they just take the form of humans to trick people.

next up, the obake. these are not ghosts either, but shapeshifting yokai (also known as bakemono). these include tsukumogami like the kasa-obake, kitsune, tanuki, basically anything that can change forms. in phasmo, they're shapeshifters, so they did get that part right at least, but they make them a lot more vicious than most bakemono are. some of them are definitely murderous yes but other times they're just... guys. obake can be an alternative term for ghost, but generally it refers to shapeshifters.

oni are also not ghosts! these are the japanese ogre demons, usually with red or blue skin, horns, thick facial hair, usually an animal skin loincloth. the ogre emoji on your keyboard? that's an oni. also the japanese term for demons used in demon slayer, because yes, they eat people. also lots of torture and general not so great stuff, oni are usually born from utterly wicked people (sometimes they die and are reborn as an oni in hell, other times they're so awful that they transform whilst still alive). either way, they are distinctly Reborn humans and definitely don't haunt anything, so not really ghosts. the appearance of oni also comes from stereotypes of western men being huge, violent, eating meat etc. female oni are called kijo, so these should be male-exclusive in phasmo at the very least

raiju are DEFINITELY not ghosts. think of raikou from pokemon: a legendary thunder wolf/dog, companion of the god of thunder, raijin. meanwhile in phasmo they are just... ghosts that like electricity. extraordinarily extraordinarily lame.

now, moving onto the ones that are ghosts: yurei is the correct term for japanese ghosts, yes! very little issue to be had here other than the white people names thing, it's... about as accurate as randomly generated ghosts are gonna get.

onryo are, firstly, almost always female, especially in pop culture. there have historically been stories of male onryo, but in the modern day the word onryo conjures a very specific image: ghost woman, long and unkempt hair, white robes. think sadako from the ring, or lady oiwa from the play tokaido yotsuya kaidan - oiwa is basically the archetypal onryo. what onryo does get right, though, is that they're vengeful/wronged spirits, come back to life because they have a grudge. probably to kill a person or several (since they have a grudge, they don't always stick to one location, and instead haunt a person). it's mainly the gender thing that's an issue here. i like onryo a lotttt because you can talk a lot about how sexism comes into play here and how yes it's kind of a #girlboss move for women to come back and kill men who wronged them, but also very highly reflective of how women's only shot at justice for themselves or having any real power at all was to Just Fucking Die. if i had to be more specific about my interests it would be analysis of folklore from a gender-based/intersectional perspective and how structural power factors into folk tales. i am passionate about this

lastly, goryo, or noble ghosts. these are specifically the ghosts of nobility, warriors etc who died horrible deaths and return for vengeance. so sort of similar to onryo, but probably more commonly male than female. they can definitely be female though; i watched a film a couple times about the tale of miminashi no hoichi (earless hoichi), which is about the ghosts of the heike clan warriors, as well as the emperor's wife and son, returning as what i assume to be goryo. not gonna explain the full plot but it's an enjoyable film. phasmo makes them completely different, they're just ghosts with a specific trick to them where you need to use a video camera to see them passing through a projector. literally no relevance to the frankly awesome actual goryo.
