So for those unaware (which should be most) I actually run a ttrpg campaign set in Eorzea.
And one of my favourite things I did worldbuilding-wise was expanding on and detailing the role of men in Keeper of the Moon society.
Like yes, they're kicked out and expected to be nomadic, but in my campaign it's for a purpose. They have their own, distinct role in Keeper culture as couriers, lorekeepers, mystics, and genealogists.
Want to get a message to another tribe which may or may not be at a number of places in the woods? Tell a wandering man to do it and he will either know where they are, or give it to another man who will.
(My players dubbed this "Male Mail")
Each man is also expected to keep track of the children he has sired (they're not "his kids"), not out of any paternal duty, but simply to avoid any unexpected unpleasantness in the future.
As they are also fairly solitary, they often serve as capable guides and survivalists, and their isolated nature leads to them often having reputations as mystics with ties to strange magic and unexplained phenomena.

What do “dramatic, personal stakes” look like in tabletop gaming? What games center them in their mechanics and how?
Alright, so there are lots and lots of games out there that do this in very different ways, so this is going to be a very long and meandering answer.
Starting with the most "trad" example, Pendragon, the game of playing knights in Arthurian Britain that freely mixes history and myth, is for the most part a very traditional adventure game, but it also introduced the idea of Passions and Personality Traits to give mechanical heft to characterization. These are effectively measured on the same 1 to 20 scale as regular skills and attributes in the game, meaning that they can be "tested" just like skills, but they also have the potential for putting the player character into trouble. A character with the "Hates Saxons" Passion will have their hate actually manifest in play, whereas a character who is high in Lustful and low in Chaste will find themselves entangled in lots of romantic drama. Character personality will thus actually have concrete game mechanical effects. The Passions system has since been ported into more recent editions of RuneQuest and its descendants, including Mythras.
Fate is a more modern indie RPG that is less concerned with measuring out Exact Statistics and more about modeling narrative convention. Fate characters are, more so than their skills, basically defined by their Aspects, which are effectively narrative tags that define How a character should behave in a story and What sort of stuff should be happening to them. Aspects can be invoked (using Fate points, the game's main meta currency that the whole game operates on) for bonuses on actions that relate to that tag, but they can also be compelled to put the character into trouble in a way that makes sense for their Aspect, thus granting the player a Fate point if they accept the compel. Aspects are pretty much at the core of Fate and they are utilized for much more than just characterization: new temporary aspects can be created on the fly to represent things in the environment, aspects can be used to represent things in the world and the wider narrative, injuries and consequences of losing conflicts are effectively temporary aspects, and so on. This way the game is largely one where the meta resource management game ties heavily into things that matter in the fiction.
Eureka: Investigative Urban Fantasy (by @anim-ttrpgs) is another very trad RPG and a game that is very much a "going on an adventure" game (but the adventure is a mystery that needs to be investigated), but the game adds a bit of extra mechanical heft to characterization of make it clear that the game is about regular people investigating mysteries: the Trait system is one of the most important mechanical dials for character customization and Traits are effectively packaged options with both benefits and drawbacks, and those mechanical effects also inform characterization very heavily; Truths are unique to each investigator and are something I would compare to Fate's Aspects but much more precise and personal and less meta, giving investigators minor bonuses on actions in a scene when they are acting according to their Truth; and finally, Tiers of Fear, which are also very personal to each investigator, define how an investigator reacts to various fear stimuli that exist in the world and thus also heavily intersect with the game's Composure mechanic. All of these mechanics interact with an investigative game with a very clear intended gameplay experience to further influence characterization and add personal stakes into the narrative.
Getting back to the more avant garde, Chuubo's Marvelous Wish-Granting Engine is a game that I still struggle to wrap my head around because it's a game for smart people, but as far as I have understood: the gameplay largely revolves around player characters choosing personal goals called Arcs which are further divided into Quests; each Quest is defined as a number of experience points that must be accrued towards the quest for it to be completed, as well as specific actions that characters can do to gain bonus experience on those quests, and then you basically just. Let your characters loose on quests. The important thing is that while quests can be shared among a group (for a more traditional "Group of Heroes Going on an Adventure" narrative, which Chuubo's does also support) they are also personal (so each character will have their own personal quests they will be working towards) and asynchronous (a character may pick up multiple quests over their arc and not complete them in the same order as they started them, as some will be shorter diversions on the path towards victory). Again, this is a very broad-strokes, top-down view of how the game works, because it is a very heady game that I have yet to wrap my head around. If any Chuubo's fans notice any egregious omissions or mistakes here, please let me know.
Finally I'll finish with something a bit broader, the World of Darkness "series" of games, while not having anything quite as in-depth as personality mechanics, do all have various mechanical frameworks for tying characterization into gameplay: the Classic World of Darkness games had their Archetypes, effectively defining a broad personality archetype that the character needs to act according to in order to regain Willpower; the Chronicles of Darkness games have Vices and Virtues, with characters having one of each, once again defining how they regain Willpower; and I'm sure the newer Paradox White Wolf titles also have something to that effect as well. Basically, little carrots dangled in front of player characters to encourage characterization and acting according to a specific archetype. It's neat!

Welcome to Adventure Time News
Hello, @j4gm here.
I used to report pretty heavily on the Adventure Time comics and other upcoming media on my main blog, but since Adventure Time ended there hasn't been much coming out. News updates will now be posted here, on adventure-time-news, instead of on my main blog. The folks who followed me for Adventure Time initially now have a more focused blog to follow if they're not interested in my other ramblings and reblogs :p
You can filter posts by the following tags:
#fionna and cake for everything related to the ongoing Fionna and Cake series.

New Pinned Post
I'm no longer in need of back up money, so commissions aren't needed, but if you ever want to commission me, I'm usually open. I also occasionally put some of my art on redbubble.
Please read Boundaries before sending an ask.
Anyways, hello everyone, I am too lazy to find my old crack DID pride flag (it'll come up some day and I'll link it here), and I figured I should slowly update some of my intro stuff for this blog after not touching it for a fucking minute.
You can call me Feathers - we're a 21+ year old Buddhist mixed-AAPI intersex nonbinary system (they/them) that is fully fused. There's a lot of oddities going on with our system so here is a bit of an explanation of our system situation here. "So what's up with the Feathers anyways?"
OUT OF DATE (5/15/2014); Keeping for it being an interesting post. For the most recent discussion on Buddhism, Full Integration, Final Fusion, and Functional Multiplicity written by our fully fused self before our recent decision to swap back to Functional Mulitiplicity, feel free to read here; it's long but a pretty cohesive understanding of our current experiences with our DID and shit. (End of OUT OF DATE note)
We're diagnosed with DID, C-PTSD, autism, trichotillomania, OCD, and honestly a number of things cause complex-trauma life. We have some physical disabilities but nothing that typically causes too much obstruction in our day to day.
As a result of our state of recovery, we really don't have a set headcount, however we were / are polyfragmented.
Some fun things about us and things you'll see on this blog:
Due to the fact that DID is no longer really that much of an interesting topic / impactful part of our life, we only occasionally post about DID and our experiences with it. While it was the original purpose of this blog, as a depiction of our healing journey and what healing with DID can look like, we decided we would rather just post about whatever sparks joy in our life. As a result, rather than much content on DID, you will likely see things relating to the topics below. PLEASE feel free to send asks about ANY of the topics below. We love to talk about things.
We are Buddhist (primarily non-theistic; mostly non-denominational, largely Zen) and we really enjoy it. We particularly like the philosophy and do practice it. Admittedly, we identify as being god awful Buddhists, but thats okay cause its part of the process.
We love research and plan to go into it when our ducks are better aligned. We particularly love research and literature around developmental psychopathology, trauma, dissociation, animal behavior, and the more abstract neuroscience topics (particularly consciousness research). We likely won't post much on it as overtly here because I don't enjoy talking science on tumblr much because most people (in my experience) don't actually want to talk about research as much as they want to prove their point.
We are avid bird watchers and regularly document / photograph the birds we see and upload them to ebird. We really enjoy it as an activity and social engagement and really love sharing that joy and knowledge with people. We actually have a minor in Avian Science and have been tested on North American ID skills. We also know more than we need to about chicken biology as a result of said degree. If you want to send anything about birds, bird watching, or asking for a bird ID (even non North American), they are ALWAYS welcome and you are ALWAYS allowed to tag us in any bird related content.
We do a lot of creative work and have dedicated ourselves (without writing partner) to a large story world project that we've been writing for over a decade now. We actually specifically started grinding our art skills in 2020 specifically just to help build that world up. Art is one of our largest self soothing coping mechanisms. We are going to turn that story world into a comic and a TTRPG system so please check out @thedevaaffliction.
Overall, we really just like thinking about a lot of topics and things as part of both our interest in research, philosophy, and as part of our Buddhist practice. We don't really find an interest in arguing discourse / syscourse because we really dislike and see very little benefit in debate. That said, we love to discuss experiences, thoughts, feelings and perspectives on complex topics and as long as the intent is to discuss and share rather than to "win" or "prove", we really enjoy that sort of enrichment in our life so we do welcome it. That said, we withhold the right to deem any conversation as more debate than discussion and to abandon it.
Additionally, related to the fifth point, we believe in being fully transparent about our past and admission that we were wrong as we think it is very important to be able to re-evaluate your beliefs and opinions and grow. In our mid teens we actually were pretty far into the alt-right pipeline and until about a year or so ago, we were staunch anti-endos. These days we are basically commies and very pro-endo. If anyone has any interest on how we pivoted so hard in our opinions on those topics, we are more than open to talk and discuss it as well as any insights we pulled from the experience.
Also we love martial arts - I forgot that cause I'm not particularly XIV brained rn but we REALLY enjoy martial arts.
We suck at being labeled and having labels. We're just very very queer.
--------------
DNI:
People who put on their socks/shoes in the order of Sock-Shoe-Sock-Shoe
That's about it. We liberally block, so we don't really worry about DNIs. If we don't like your content for any reason, we will remove it from our dash. Whether or not you want to interact with us is up to you past that point. Generally, we welcome anyone to follow as it can make for good conversation.

New Intro 3.0
We have been putting this off for a long while now but now its time to do this, and simply to say, we are a plural system that uses the collective name of "The Whirl Production House", Ava, or Whirl, and if you know us you know there is a tendency for us to be quite nerdy or atleast a collection of dorks obessed with more artistic endeavors. If you want to find us elsewhere here is our linktree:
Also before you look, to note is that we do have commissions, and before the link tree here is the comms sheet and feel free to message me if you want to possible support a disabled Transwoman
And beyond this it should be noted we are mostly a grouping of differing levels of otherkin sort of deals ranging between those of us who are fictives to those who are kins with very little shifting beyond that if at all. Mentioning that we should probably shift into introductions of individual members of our collective. I will say individual members because we are more so at the multiple end of the plural spectrum of things where its kinda easy to tell there are several of us up here, without bleed-through unless we are feeling blendy/foggy on who is fronting.
Also something to note, we gernally do not fall into Plural related labels and are still early in the processes of System stuff even though its been a few months since syscovery. Part of the reason is because the only ones of us that care about assigning labels feel we do not know enough to label everything, only using labels we do have an idea of working as apart of our system. Will those labels be disclosed? Not in this post atleast.
A Quick Rundown
We are the Whirl Production House system or Whirlproductions, a system to which is still figuring shit out who has an open mind to things so to get syscourse out of the way we are Pro Endo. I will say I am not afraid of blocking people as we generally do not care what you think but if you are annoying there is a way to make you shut up on our feed or notifs. Beyond that we generally face things with caution and are still learning about many things, we have a few ideas on who is what kind of roles but I will not share them and for origins I will say its either unknown or a mixture of several probably, with stress being a detriment at times and is part of the reason why we are not out publically about the Trans stuff alone IRL. We stress easily and have chronic illness (Some form of lung related thing as well as Fatigue) so if we are slow on the uptick please keep that in mind.
Headmates

Name: Sylvia S. / Sylvia Drake
Pronouns: She/Her
Sexuality: Demisexual-Lesbian
Kins: Mojave Sidewinder Rattlesnake, Sylvia Drake [Mice Tea]
Noting about Kins for Sylvia is that both are practically just who she is, as there are very few shifts out and when there is, it usually during hours of blurriness or questioning that leads to her questioning more of who she is, but being Sylvia Drake is basically the summary of her being

Avarstia

Art by us... (May be replaced by digital art at some point tho lol)
Name: Avarstia Furhenbrook
Pronouns: She/Her
Sexuality: Lesbian
Kins*: Not actually a kin, she is a fictive of an OC we have of the same name and is legitimately said character and has helped greatly write the books she is involved with. In other words she is a Half-Demon, Goddess of Death, Winter, and Time who just somehow ended up here
Age: Given what is said above would it be surprising to say she is somewhere in her 700s on the mental side
Likes: Reading, Talking, Philosophy, Thought Expirementation, Writing, Observing, Storytelling
Dislikes: TTRPGs (She finds them boring), Menial tasks, Repetition, Staying in a single place for too long, Ideas of immortality or preventing decay,
Tag: 💀Avarstia
Fionn / Yang Xiao Long
Official Render from the Volume 8 episode of RWBY, "Refuge" (Will say there is divergence from canon in how she looks however)
Name: Yang Xiao Long
Aliases: Fionn
Pronouns: She/They
Sexuality: Lesbian
Kins*: Again as the shift with Avarstia shows, she is again falls under the aspect of being a Fictive in our system, she diverges from canon in the aspect that she is atleast blind in one eye in headspace as well as having a couple of Faunus features being her ears and tail, being a sort of draconic Faunus. Also Dragon Kin
Age: Early to mid 20s (Notably younger than Sylvia when we feel numbers are accurate)
Likes: Engineering, mechanics, learning about weapons and historical combat, comedy, Energetic music (Mostly rock and punk), helping others in any sense really
Dislikes: Feeling powerless, being Frontstuck (Its been almost 800 days by the time of drafting this), Biological family, others feeling bad, being objectified.
Tag: 🐲 Yang / Fionn
🐉 is also sometimes used as apart of her tag
Dendro

Art by Miranda Mundt, within the webtoon "Muted" (Again may update this when we have art on hand that is more to our preference)
Name: Dendrobrium, Dendro
Alias: Delphi
Pronouns: She/It
Sexuality: Demisexual-Lesbian
Kins*: She is again a Fictive of the character of Dendro from the webtoon Muted, with the main change between her appearance there and what is in our headspace being that she is more of a combination of Desert flora
Age: 300s, again like Avarstia she is a bit older but Dendro did mention it is an estimate given the time difference between Trea and Earth, but will say in source that is not a detail stated.
Likes: Plants, Gardening, Staying Healthy, existing beyond the confines of the place we live, being around people, learning
Dislikes: The body's Chronic Illness, the Desert Heat, and generally the urban areas of Arizona being the way they are.
Tag: 🌸 Dendro
Ceroba Ketsukane

Art by us but will note you can find Ceroba when she uses Tumblr on @kitsunetragedy
Name: Ceroba Ketsukane
Pronouns: She/her
Sexuality: Bi with a femme lean
Kins*: Again she is basically just a fictive of Ceroba from Undertale Yellow, with the only difference being that she has two tails
Age: Older than Rowan, younger by far than Dendro, Monsters age slower than humans just an exact age is not really set mentally but she is older.
Likes: Thrillers and Romance, Art of her source, Cuddlable things, Older music (50s-70s), Calm and quiet situations
Dislikes: Abrasive clothing, People who are quite rude, Failure
Tag: 🦊Ceroba
Note: Ceroba does not front much and is at moment of writing the newest member of our system so this will likely be updated at some point
Members who will not be given great detail
This section is mainly here because of system members who have either been identified or appeared once and haven't been active at really all and we do not know if they are apart of our system still or if their existence is confirmed outside of small blips:
Duana - Moth monstergirl who kinda was the main one angry at everything and was the host for a bit before Sylvia and Lucinda took the reigns, was noted as a member pre-syscovery by those who knew the system was a thing sort of passively back then and she hasn't reappeared in a long time.
Aria - Robot girl who appeared once for like half a day before disappearing into the ether of our brain, do not know if she was a fragment with more of a sense of self or if she is a headmate but she is logged on our SimplyPlural
Clémente Dearworth - Yaelokre Fictive, who appeared in our system very recently and is a middle
Nicole Demara - ZZZ Fictive, who also appeared in our system very recently. And is active, this may get updated again to add her to the main list of things. 🩷
??? - A third pressence of recent editions is known but is unknown.
Questioning on if they are Kins or Members of our System
Mentzelia Laev (OC), its less so feeling like we get too into the mindset of the character, its generally an aspect closer to Clemmie where I feel there is a potential Kin but its more further back, or maybe being someone who is currently not active in the system. Either way Bug Lady had a specific sense of self that has not changed much and would explain the like autumn we were obsessed with blacksmithing and medieval weapons.
Lethica Nightborne (Legends of Avantris, Edge of Midnight), This one is more of a situation where I do not know but suspect she could potentially be like one my brain has picked up upon in a similar sense to Avarstia, Ceroba, and Dendro, a character who is more of a comforting pressence than similar tracks of trauma.
Vash the Stampede (Trigun), this one I think is or will be a kin, I do not see the aspect of them as a headmate being likely given the difference in thoughts but I feel atleast someone in our system will be a kin of Vash... Just has those vibes.
Falin or Marcille (Dungeon Meshi), Again I feel its more of a kin but its somewhere as it was a moment months ago admist the whole identity crisis of syscovery, that I ended up going on a spree and you can check my Tumblr back in April to see it, we were still figuring things out so I have no clue who it would have been. Either way, I feel it may come back again when Dungeon Meshi season 2 drops given the more laxed nature of it all atm.
Burnice White (Zenless Zone Zero), a new one and is the first documented adition. There has been a back and forth between her being a kin or the budding of a headmate, but either way, one tie to Lucinda.
In other words do not be surprised if we update this post to mention them beyond this section, whether as a offhanded mention of a Kin or as apart of our system full on. This section may be updated or maybe not I will say though.
Other Information
Honestly I do not really know what else to add for y'all to know but if you wish to ask anything I may add tags or whatnot down here to give you all an idea of what we do such as possibly using the same tag we use on Bluesky and Twitter for art being:
#AvarstiaArt - Art posts by us
Beyond factors such as that feel free to send in asks and one of us may respond with an answer or whatnot.

20 questions for fic writers
thank you @rowanisawriter for the tag!
1. how many works do you have on ao3?
*gulp* 60!!! HOW DID THAT HAPPEN???
2. what’s your total ao3 word count?
348,147. I repeat the question. (Almost a third is one fic, though.)
3. what fandoms do you write for?
I have written for Dragon Age, the Star Wars sequels, a teensy bit of the Witcher... and I GUESs now an obscure actual play DND podcast no one has heard of 🤷♀️
4. what are your top five fics by kudos?
The Force's Will (Star Wars sequels, Reylo)
Tactical Maneuvers (Dragon Age, Thalia x Cullen)
Through a Glass, Darkly (Dragon Age, Thalia x Cullen, Thalia x Samson)
Stealing the Light (Star Wars sequels, Reylo)
Forbearance (Dragon Age, Cullen & Dorian)
5. do you respond to comments?
Always!
6. what’s the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
Bold of you to assume I finish fics. But among the one-shots Hiraeth (Cullen x Thalia) and Save Me a Dance (Blackwall x Thalia x Cullen love triangle) are sure in the running.
7. what’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Lmao idk. Maybe License to Lick (Cullen x Thalia)? It's very silly and I was deliberately trying to write fluff. (It's hard!)
8. do you get hate on fics?
Not yet, fingers crossed! I did get a spam comment once about one of my chapters of Through a Glass, Darkly supposedly being AI generated and just laughed. I was like, joke's on you, you WISH AI could come up with shit this weird. I think that was just (ironically) a bot programmed to hit any new updates at a certain point in time, though, because scores of people were getting them at once.
9. do you write smut? if so, what kind?
I guess so. The kind that's often awkward and imperfect, but hopefully still satisfying?
10. do you write crossovers? what’s the craziest one you’ve written?
I wrote a Dragon Age/Witcher crossover exchange fic once where Cassandra Pentaghast kissed Geralt of Rivia. And um, I am currently *checks notes* writing a Dragon Age OC adventure crossover with the DND campaign Curse of Strahd, also featuring at least one character from Curse of Strahd: Twice Bitten, that aforementioned obscure actual play DND podcast. Because Metrion is fucking amazing and there's nO FIC ABOUT THIS SERIES AT ALL AND IT'S MURDEIRNG ME DEAD
I had the idea while high on drugs. Sue me.
(Literally. I wish I could say they were the fun kind but I was prescribed some allergy meds that really FUCKED ME UP for awhile.)
11. have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not that I know of!
12. have you ever had a fic translated?
Not that I know of!
13. have you ever co-written a fic before?
Sort of! Pravinquisition AU is a collaborative series between me and @monocytogenes, but we generally write different fics in the same timeline, not like, one fic together.
14. what’s your all-time favorite ship?
*blank stare* I have to pick one?
15. what’s a WIP you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?
The Star Wars ones, currently. Once I started running a Star Wars ttrpg campaign, all my SW mojo went toward that, unfortunately.
16. what are your writing strengths?
Dialogue, plot-heavy stuff, coming up with weird af canon divergence aus, writing relatable characters and campy villains
17. what are your writing weaknesses?
Finishing literally anything
18. thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?
hot take maybe but I think there's almost never a good reason to do so. you're basically just othering whatever culture it is you're trying to represent.
19. first fandom you wrote for?
Ironically, Star Wars.......... when I was 10. Unless you count Barbie as a fandom (which, maybe we are now?). Then I was doing that when I was like 7.
20. favorite fic you’ve ever written?
I'm a broken record when it comes to this, but it's probably A Little Grace, and Some Elegance. Cullen has a near-death experience overdosing on lyrium and then tells Thalia some key backstory between him and Samson via flashback. Started my Cullen & Samson doomed friendship obsession, and is probably some of the whumpiest whump I've ever whumped.

Me :3
howdy folks, I'm Rain and this is meant to be an introduction of me bc i think it's time i made this lol (feel free to ignore if it's in your feed, or read on i don't care too much)
About Me:
i'm a genderfluid transfem, i am usually somewhere that'd be non binary and love me some xenogenders but i can also be fem or masc depending on how i feel
i'm aromatic and asexual but i'm very comfy with romance and sex (i'm very flirty if i like you), i just don't feel attraction like other people do and frankly aroace labels can get too specific for me and i'm not ready to make my own lmao
i'm also a system, for anyone that doesn't know you'd probably want to research it yourself bc i'm not going to educate you very well but basically i have some people in my brain with me (i call them headmates). They aren't usually the one talking here so you don't need to worry about that unless you're talking to me personally and even then most of them are pretty shy to new people
If there's any questions about me as a person feel free to put them in my ask bin and i'll get around to them soon, or just read my bio to see about age or pronouns
What I Post / My Interests:
i reblog anything i find funny and that's a lot of things so expect me to be a lot of your page if you follow me
I also make my own jokes to see if people like them mainly so i might be shy and say something in the tags or i'll be funny more directly, but if you don't like my humor you may want to leave
I like lots of things but i love history stuff, music (folk punk and vocaloid are my go to genres but i love will wood too), video games, horror, anime, ttrpgs, books, and i love my friends :3
I try to not get political here since this is where i go to avoid a lot of the worlds issues for a moment but i will sometimes reblog something if it makes a point i haven't seen before and i want to share it
I'm also very horny so there will be times that i'm flirting with my mutuals somewhere or be rebloging horny stuff, usually it's very t4t bc that's who i am
Warning: The next section is horny so if you don't want to see that then get out of the ride now and have a good rest of your day :3
What I'm horny about:
Firstly i'm a switch that is very often the top, so if you're going to top me you'll have to be a little nice about it and make me feel safe (which isn't that easy)
I'm into a lot but i'll make a short list of likes and dislikes, this is NOT a comprehensive list so there will be stuff i say is more personal and you'll either have to ask me about it or just wait for me to out myself with a reblog
Likes: t4t, cuddles and other soft stuff, nipple play, cnc, furry related stuff, blood, somno, and piss
Dislikes: detrans and lots of forcefem stuff, scat and vomit, and there's probably a few i'm forgetting rn so i'll update this part later i guess

(commissions are open btw) <- i'm dying squirtle
#my art - self explanatory #my ocs - also self explanatory #dr pepper posting - my collection of dr pepper related posts
#the crusker tag - for Crunch and Wesker (who are they?) #meenus supremus - for Meenus #horational tag - for Horatio (my Splatoon OC) #king of rotting away - for the King of Rot #thanning it up! - for Than (my dresden ttrpg pc)
I don't have anything that I regularly trigger tag for (on posts that I reblog at least, i have a bad habit of assuming the original post is tagged already) EXCEPT i tag the svsss skin creatures as #skin creatures. If you need me to start tagging anything else for you just let me know and I'll see what I can do!
Anyway, if you're following I'm happy to have you here, if you're not I'm glad you chose to visit, and I hope you enjoy scrolling my blog either way :)

2024 Wrapup!
At the start of the year I pitched a specific idea; I wanted to make what I made with purpose and I didn’t want to flatten what I did by describing it as ‘content.‘ I promised, essentially, to write with purpose, and without considering whatever I was producing as generic. Every article (aside from the t-shirt design articles) was going to be a thousand words or more, and I had limits on genres of post.
Now, this is largely going to be a list of articles I’m very happy with this year and why, reviewing my own writing, and there are going to be a lot of links. If you’re already familiar with the blog, and if you’re familiar with the category and tag system, those will help you navigate through these articles and find them on your own. What I’m doing this time is looking at the broad categories of writing I did this year and directing you to check out articles in that space you might have missed, and what I think of how good a job I did.
Basically, right now, you might be broke and bored. Here’s some stuff you might enjoy reading that will cost you nothing, thanks to my wonderful patrons giving a buck or two a month.
Some stuff that’s not in contention: By default, Story and Game Pile aren’t here because I cover those in other posts. The posts about the month starts and wrapups aren’t in, either. I didn’t include any of the monthly posts summarising my Magic: The Gathering set material, because that’s basically a special interest (and we’ll talk more about it next year).
D&D 3e
First of all, here’s the tag for just browsing this kind of article. Dungeons & Dragons 3rd edition is an edition of the game I had a lot of experience in, and own a lot of books for, which means that any time I want to think about old game design and TTRPG experience, I can just go grab an old book and flip it open, then answer any questions the resulting page asks me.
Monk Attacks — If you understand what monks were doing in 3e, you could easily tell the way the mechanic wanted to work, but there was zero way for the game rules to explain it. Just say monks iterate on 4!
The Love Potion — I examine an omnipresent fantasy trope item that is bad, but also, the way that 3rd edition included it in a way that was also obviously bad.
Sticks and Stones — An examination of the standardisation of psychic powers and the resultant expansion of what those powers could do.
Objection to Formula — A reflection how I’ve been making new game material for the games I play for thirty years, starting back when I was a child sharing magical items to Usenet.
The Missing Step — A conversation about how Wizard Prestige Classes are so unbalanced that there’s no way to balance them without making them all immediately worthless.
The PHB At The Pride Parade — I mean this is basically just fanfiction of the characters. I think this is a great example of an article that would be uplifted by the addition of character art but there’s no way to get the art necessary on my schedule at my costs without basically opting into Generative Slop art.
Psychofeedback — I relate one of my favourite stories of older mechanics from the history of the game, which also ties into a time when I remember getting a book errata’d personally.
Eberron is A World Of Locks — A chat about the way that rising technology in a world creates diversity in the kinds of villains you’re able to have, all told through the lens of Eberron’s relationship to ‘Disable Device.’
Winners and Losers In Lawful Space — Probably the most popular article I wrote this year, comparing the Modrons (perfect weird little guys) to the Inevitables (the world’s narcs). This article has some errors (I did not know that Modrons were from 1e!), but it still caught traction in tumblr and it was cool watching people react to it. This is probably the best article in this group this year and I recommend it.
Kythons — An article about the horror bug crabs that were introduced in the Book of Vile Darkness, which serve as a sort of idealised horror ‘animal’ for players to fight.
The Nemuranai System — Finally, probably the best single mechanical system in 3e’s supplementary material that was introduced to address the looting problem that didn’t fit with a particular genre, as imagined by people who weren’t experts in that genre.
D&D 4e
Again, here’s a tag to browse these articles and further. D&D 4th edition is my weapon of choice when I want to play a dungeon crawler with tactical combat and highly structural character building.
Iron Hearts And Minds — An examination of heritages that are popular amongst players, but don’t necessarily have a place in my D&D campaigns for reasons of legality (the Warforged), power (the minotaur) or boringness (eat poop, gith).
Backgrounds Are Weird — I talk about the way the background system ‘works’ and the way that it’s just not clearly written anywhere in a convenient core part of the books.
4e For Two —What if you want to play 4th edition but don’t have a lot of people to play with? Well, here’s a way to approach it as a two-player game.
Many Hands Make Fight Work — A conversation about the term ‘action economy’ that serves as the underpinning design framework for how 4th edition tried to fix certain fundamental problems that 3rd edition introduced accidentally.
Why Is Druid? — An article explaining the lineage of the Druid from 2e through to 4e as I experienced it. This is especially illuminated by the contribution from Claire about interesting rules wrinkles introduced by the half-assing of Druid healer abilities. This is the best article of this type this year and I recommend it for its own sake.
Having A (Weapon) Type — Know how the weapon system in 4th ed works? You do? Then read this article and giggle at my funny jokes.
The Cultures Of Gender — In Pride Month I tried to investigate if there were any D&D heritages that didn’t have a strict and specific conception of a gender binary. I found more than I expected but fewer than I should have.
The Blackguard Sucks — Somehow this one got popular on Reddit? I don’t know what happened to that, but it was very cool to see people discussing my writing. In this case it’s about one of the worst striker classes available in the game that, by existing, kinda accidentally makes its competition better.
The Power Of Trickery (in 4e D&D) — There are some ideas that have no application to any other articles I make for 4th edition D&D. Normally I can find a place in the How To Be series to show off interesting mechanical wrinkles, but I cannot imagine a holy character with a chain weapon and a sense of trickery to work with here oh wait why didn’t I think of the Belmonts.
Spooky Heritages — I took some time to look at 4th edition options for playing something monstery and what problems they did or didn’t have.
I Like the Ardent — And finally, my last major article about 4th edition D&D was a consideration of one of my favourite classes in a category of favourite classes. I love 4e Leaders, and I love the things they enable. The Ardent combines things I love! The psychic power point system, melee character support, physical violence, risk!
World-Building As A Practice
Here’s the tag to look at this list of articles from this year and earlier. The nature of worldbuilding writing is that sometimes there are articles about something in Cobrin’Seil (my D&D setting) that still is a principle I think can be generalised.
In terms of big, world-wide systems, I wrote about how you structure the Planar Cosmology, and what those different models let you do, and the potential pitfalls they have. There’s also the idea of Number Systems and the way Language Structures Power In The Community. Of course, if we’re talking about power, there are multiple ways to structure that, such as Whiteness, and Competing Magical Theories. I wrote a treatment on the question of how you determine truth usefully, or rather, what is truth (in game worldbuilding)? Finally, I suppose, no getting around it, I really liked my article about the power to consume, and the question of whether or not it’s okay to eat people, and if so, Who Can You Eat?
But more grounded elements, like, setting specifics? I wrote about a Useful Template For Street Food, because I think every culture everywhere is going to make food that they can easily have and exchange. I asked the question does Your World Have A Pride Parade? and about the somewhat depressing question of what can cause Pride, since Pride is explicitly a response to a system of abuse. There’s also a piece about widely distributed ‘small’ magic cites in cities, titled I Just Think Mr Minit’s A Wizard which makes sense if you know Mr Minit’s a business in Australia in almost every mall that does stuff like shoe repair, key cutting, and fixing watches. I also wrote about Lanes in Space, the effect that spacelanes generate and what you can use them for, which puts them on the same level as Marriage.
Oh! And also, communication speed is important, and it changes the world. Consider the impact then of the Speed of Words.
Exploring the World of Cobrin’Seil
I do generic, abstracted world-building material, in the context of ‘here’s a way to think about what your setting is doing’ but the thing is, what I really want to do, what I really feel like I have the most fun doing is talking about my Dungeons & Dragons setting, Cobrin’Seil, a world I made up when I was a kid because I figured that if I had my own world to work with nobody could tell me I was doing it wrong. Since then I have also become a big weirdo about how game worlds should work and the world of Cobrin’Seil betrays all the thumbprints of things I care about!
This year saw the codifying of some locations to solve some problems. I’ve written about necrostates in the past, and this year I wrote about Hecsenfore, (Part 2, Part 3). It’s a city ruled over by a vampire whose Special Interest is running a city well, because how hard could it be to run a city well? Duh? I also wrote about the Wizard University of Laewaes, two of the six provinces of Dal Raeda, and the blasted ruins of the former nation now known just as Selpera.
While talking about places, I did talk about the extremely big idea that the Blood War and Hell’s self-represented image of a war of equal ideologies was perhaps, not actually true and maybe a culture of liars weren’t telling the truth. This is part of a kind of ongoing consideration of ‘villainy’ in the cultures of Cobrin’Seil, like reflecting on the idea of ‘evil ogres,’ the missing history of the Tiefling Empire, and most of all, the way that corporations manufactured their own version of a Warlock Patron.
The people of Cobrin’Seil are all meant to be very material even if they don’t exist because of very material causes. That’s how the weird history of the Aarakocra wound up happening, and their cousin species the Harpies. That involves learning about the undercurrent of what the fey realms are like and what models of reality represent it, which wound up being a full three parter (1, 2, 3).
Finally, and the topic in Cobrin’Seil I found myself most excited to write about: Drugs and how they’re regulated.
Pokemon
Pokemon is, after Magic: The Gathering probably one of the most complicated games I’ve ever played and also love. This year I wrote some articles about the game and the game’s surrounding cultural material.
Like, sure, the Speed stat is really important in Pokemon, that’s about the mechanics of the competitive game. The Pokemon Who Have Never Been Legal is also about the things that don’t even exist in the competitive space. The story of Flygon Isn’t Gunna Happen, People is also a story of competitive play, where a Pokemon got caught in the explosion of another Pokemon.
But there’s also the conversation around worldbuilding in Pokemon. For example, there’s the way that Paradox Pokemon represent a new kind of prehistory of the world. That means questions of like How do Pokemon Breed? or that Pokemon Choose Expressive Identities (To F*ck). While we’re talking about breeding and fucking, what about clothes, where Finding Pokemon That Wear Pants was at issue, and then who was wearing the pants and who was wearing a dress in the context of Crossdressing In Pokemon. Once you have dresses you can have pockets and I can work out which Pokemon are interested in emptying those pockets by Stealing Your Money. Maybe they’ll even Act Spooky while they do it.
Finally, I try and address the question Well What if I Was In Charge Of Pokemon If I’m So Bloody Smart?
Transformers
Sometime this year, an old friend got into contact with me, and wound up checking out the blog. One thing they mentioned, which was pretty funny in hindsight was that they didn’t know I was such a fan of Transformers. Which, just to be clear, I’m kind of not? But I do write about them, and Transformers is such a wonderfully deep canyon of nonsense, just this enduring leviathan of middle-grade Media Culture that there’s always something cool to elevate or something dumb to tease and sometimes you can just have fun gawking.
Anyway, I tried to grapple with some questions in Transformers that could be interesting to investigate. My favourite article of the whole year, for example, which was about what Transformer was the fastest one, based on things we can track and observe rather than just ‘they can travel from planet to planet fast.’ I also dug into the semiotics of Starscream and what kind of queer representation he is, and the nonsense consideration of the ‘guns’ they carry. There’s also the idea of Naming Rights and how there are sometimes good names or bad names and. The toys also present their own boundaries, like, there are limits on what the toys can represent, which is how we get shellformers.
I also looked at some Transformers in terms of their characters, with treatements of Powerglide, the horror monster gestalts, Wheeljack, Optimus Prime and Swindle.
Magic the Gathering stuff
Oh hey, here’s that most complex game I like!
Sometimes I write about Magic as a player, like when I wrote about Wife Guy Decks, or my exercise in trying to get better at drafting (and I think I am!) with Outlaws of Thunder Junction Draft In Retrospect. I also reflected on the exciting news that we have Canon Dinobots, an entirely unbased fandom ship that it was really fun to see happening because essentially, one artist who thought it was cute drew fanart that became popular. Oh and I reflected on one of my favourite cards from Magic The Gathering Arena, Propagator Primordium.
Most importantly, and most generally useful, I think, though, are the articles I wrote for the Custom Magic design space. That is to say, things I think are useful lessons and ideas for people who are also, like me, making our own cards to enjoy the experience of making them.
In that, I wrote about Whybrid, which sought to be a useful guide to explaining to people who are new to the game about how hybrid mana works and what it’s job is for. Oh, and also, there was a reflection on the New Mechanics of 2023. I also wrote about the unhinged idea that players need special tools to end the game on their own terms, when the fact is, You Can Just Concede. Finally, I wanted to address the trend of Modern Horizons 3 inspired and adjacent designs of people consciously or unconsciously making The Everythingamajig.
Game making
I make games, and this year I wrote some articles on that. Not the central focus I want them to be (and we’ll see about that in 2025), but throughout the year I did put out some articles that, while a bit rough, are summaries of the game development process.
A Mechanic For Love
Bloodwork Update 11
Wip Assessment 1
Lysen Co and Forebears
Don’t Forget Simple Tools
Academic Topics
And while there weren’t as many as I would have wanted, I did spend some time this year talking about topics that are for lack of a better term ‘academic.’ This is stuff that’s a little denser and I hope it was a good explanation for these concepts.
Gdcn’t 1 — Understanding Others
Gdcn’t 2 — Incomplete Authorship
Gdcn’t 3 — You Don’t Know Apples
Extrinsic vs Intrinsic Critique
Privilege Is Without
Fundamentalist Christian Experiences
Something else I tried out this year was writing a series of articles that were built on my experience as a former Christian fundamentalist and the mindset of the culture I was raised in that I have since seen taking prominence in the world and online spaces around me. It’s sometimes a downer, but it is I hope, at least, something interesting.
First of all, I wrote about just the experience of being a fundie and the way the churches create strange behaviours, in the articles Fundie Divorce and Other Dramas, Fundie Fucking (god we were obssessed with sex), and Fundie Vibeology.
I talked about the unfairness that builds around when you do the ‘right’ thing and it doesn’t work, with Shoulds Don’t Matter. I reflected on what it means when as an atheist, we’re framed as being smug by people who claim to have a unique access to the mind of god. This is particularly important because I also think that all Fundamentalists are, under the hood, at best, liars. These lies build up and create the phenomenon I borrow from Formons that we call The Mormon Shelf.
Still, I also looked at the Bible a lot! The Bible is a super interesting book, and I considered The Floating Significance of Moses and the way that his name betrays something, something that he was built out of. I talked about the weird law against stitching pillows your elbows with Pillow-Stitchin’ and Soul-Snitchin’ that led to Zandra making a really lovely short story. I also wrote about the Trinity, specifically with the beautifully titled St Nicholas, The Trinity, and the Miracle of the Brick. And because I was paying attention to Bible academics, I learned about how the Bible Is Stolen Labor.
Finally, and probably the most important article in this type that I wrote this year and which I feel anxious about because I feel it makes me look bad, I wrote about Dealing with My Dad.
And A Bunch Of Other Stuff
And then, if all of that wasn’t particularly interesting to you, there are other things I wrote this year that I just think are good articles and interesting and enjoyable to read. For example, I wrote about three thousand words about Oshi No Ko, an anime I really enjoyed but which also provoked a host of thoughts about things like, well, what we call ‘anime bullshit,’ and where the focus of a story naturally lies. While talking about anime, I also wrote about The Unhinged Performative Heteronormativity of Shikimori’s Not Just A Cutie
That neatly segues into a bunch of queer themed writing I did, because y’know, I’m a queer guy and that means my hand has been stamped and I’m allowed to pass opinions on it. First I explained Disney’s Conversion Therapy Story in Chicken Little and how, y’know, maybe Disney are bad. I gave some information about my Blahaj sticker, in A Year of Blahaj. Since that story goes Decay-adjacent, I should also mention the article, ‘Let Me Tell You About Ligma‘ which got started by goofing around with Decay. It’s almost perfunctionary at that point that I wound up writing about The Queering of Ocs and the ways my cohort of OCs has gotten queerer over time, and my deep-seated rage at Fortnite‘s whole model of uncreative commodification, in Faces For Skins.
With all that talking about gay stuff, how about we talk about stuff that’s definitely not gay, like Taylor Swift? I wrote about Gaylors, Apes, and Quanon, which are leaderless cults of self-reinforcing divinely revelated incoherent realities. I wrote about playing for money, and the way that games are deformed by the pressures around them, which games studies likes to circle around and pretend doesn’t actually exist. Pressures that can lead to you being left to think that you need to cheat, like with The Three Repeat Cheats of Twenty Twenty Threet.
Since at that point we’re talking about down turns and people cheating at games, what about the conversational cheat of recruiting the absent, where you reframe a conversation in order to make someone who isn’t even there the offended party. Then I wrote in October, the month I like to focus on miserable topics, about the Union Carbide Bhopal Disaster, which sucked and hurt a lot of people and nobody can ever fix it. Speaking of things that can’t be fixed, there was also the meme of ‘Epstein Didn’t Kill Himself,’ which y’know, that’s a complicated space of feelings but just because people you don’t like are in charge doesn’t mean it’s time to bust out tinfoil hats to explain the world. Maybe it’ll be that bad incompetent people do bad things incompetently. And hey, speaking of incompetent people, and bad people, did you see my article about The Executioner of Nuremberg?
While every wrapup had a diary moment, one or two times in the year I made specific posts diaring experiences. Like that time I Felt Bad So I Went To The Park, and the deflated feeling of Giving up on Fighting Games.
I suppose for this point, for the last thing I have to say for this year, it’s the writing advice, that you’re always designing, to create tension when you can, and

Hi! I'm Gregg (he/him, 21+) and furry-related stuff has been one of my longest-lived special interests. I've spent a lot of time in my life digging for furry media and decided I thought it'd be fun to document and potentially share my findings (you know, years down the line). So here's that!
Whether or not it's actually daily, I promise nothing, as I do have mental stuff going on that makes me forgetful or saps my energy.
I also want to make it clear that this isn't really a recommendation system, as some (probably many) of these things I'll never have watched or played etc. myself. Moreso it's just an archival of sorts.
That also means that a lot of information is just gonna be obtained from like... Wikipedia and store pages for the games. Again, it's just an archival, not really meant to provide new, in-depth information about things or anything like that. But poke around, see if anything interests you maybe!
That said, some rules I'll abide by:
The media must PROMINENTLY feature one anthropomorphic character. Not a human with animal ears, but a whole animal-person.
Hopefully nothing will be posted that glorifies any kind of unwarranted bias or abuse. That said, dark and adult themes may be present in some of the things I post.
Most kinds of media - games, shows, movies, etc. - will be presented. This may eventually include furry musician spotlights, too. HOWEVER, I don't plan on showcasing specific artists and the like otherwise. Sorry!
Feel free to send asks, and especially submissions! I try to tag everything, though, so if you do submit something, be sure to check and see if I've already posted something about it!
For those wondering, by the way: The picture on my desktop theme is a Tabaxi from the first edition of Dungeons & Dragons. His name is Brick. :)

Hi! Got any good ADHD-fueled info-dumps?
Sorry, I can’t do it on command :(
I do tag all my posts and non-tag replies though, so you could go hunting through my post tag #a certified themainspoon classic for older ones. But I’m a social science student (social science degree with sociology major), and a lot of my info-dumps are related to that, they’re certainly not for everyone tbh.
There is one from a discord server I’m in related to stuff I was learning about food in my new Anthropology unit that I could share. Not sure if it would be of interest or not though. There is also another one from a different discord server which was me talking about how I think the design of a TTRPG I currently play with some friends is built upon giving players hard rules with the expectation that they will break them, bend them, and use them to recreate things that they want in their games from older editions. Not sure if either of those would be of interest, but I could go fetch em I guess. Both were written as responses, and with specific IRL friends/ groups of IRL friends in mind, so they may translate over weirdly.

Intro (+ Tag & Character directory)
Hi there! I'm Brie, a transfem artist and writer living in Aotearoa, and I like drawing anything related to my TTRPG characters, trans people, sci-fi, and fantasy stuff <3
Here are some examples!
my old online name was "BenjiBo", which i don't go by anymore, but, any art before the beginning of 2023 will have that as a signature as a heads up :)
The main tag I use for all my art is "#bri art", which should include only singular posts and none of the reblogs I use for bumping.
i use tags for posts with my ocs, but I'll keep all that info below the cut.
all my art now has tags for if a recurring character of mine pops up in case anyone wants to look through and find all the things ive done with em, so ive got a little directory here that ill use for keeping up with that
---
Maxine (She/Her) | tag "bri oc: maxine"
my original blorbo and first trans OC (if im not counting that one time i went feral over a headcanon with my elden ring character), she's gone through a bunch of name changes, which looked like Bridgette -> Brianne -> Maxine, so that's why my old art refers to her by a different name
currently planning a novella/short novel with her as the main character! chipping away at it in my free time :)
---
Anya (She/Her) | tag "bri oc: anya"
another transfem oc, and my first proper pathfinder character. I wrote a whole short story about her realizing she's trans that you can find somewhere on my profile or here (It was the first story I've ever managed to finish, and that shows I think, I can write a lot better now but it's still a cute little thing) her hair changes colors with her emotions because i think its a fun thing to draw
---
Belladonna, or Bel for short (She/They) | tag "bri oc: bel"
my tiefling ttrpg character, and, surprise! also trans. paired up with a friends OC, so there's a few quicker doodles i've done with them being gay. they're my high-femme OC who i put in all the outifts i'd like to wear, and one of my most favourite characters to draw. her tail emotes like a cats :)
---
that's all i have for now but i'll update this as i design and draw new characters, cheers
#digital art#art#artists on tumblr#artwork#illustration#artblr#introduction#any rb's appreciated <3#just wanted an excuse to type up stuff about my ocs tbh#but yes i finally made one of these
