This line from Hiruzen is brief but it says so much about the way Konoha operates. In this panel, Naruto is 12, but because he graduated from the academy and earned his headband, by Konoha standards he is now an adult. Following this logic that means that Itachi, the Sannin, and Kakashi, who graduated at ages 7, 6, and 5 respectively, would have also been regarded as adults. I don't think I need to explain why that's fucked up.

But what makes it worse is that it reminds me of another scene:

Kawarama Senju was only 7 when he died, but being a Shinobi meant Butsuma and the other adult ninjas viewed him as an adult. Hashirama and Madara formed Konoha in part to stop this attitude because they'd seen how badly it impacted their own families...but it took relatively little time for this practice to return, enforced by one of Hashirama's followers no less.

The more things change, the more they stay the same.

I have finally finished 2.4 and oh my GOD watching Dan Heng be so protective of his friends nearly killed me, MY HEART.

And yes, the cutscene where he pushes the trailblazer out of the way and even cushions their fall with his own body, but I mean even before that! When he was already trying to protect them and March 7th from Feixiao and Lingsha!!

Because if you watch the dango trio throughout the main quest, you'll notice that they often position themselves in the same way, which is a detail that makes me super happy that Hoyo thought to include- when the three of them aren't evenly spaced, March 7th and the trailblazer tend to gravitate towards each other and stand very close together, frequently side-by-side. And by comparison, Dan Heng usually stands slightly away, and often even slightly behind them, where he can pull on their leashes to wrangle them keep an eye on them.

This is probably a habit learned through experience, since March 7th said during Belobog she is the "queen of unannounced disappearances" fjdksajfkldjsak

And of course at least a little bit of it is just done for like, aesthetic purposes. It's a video game. Things have to look nice for the player. The trailblazer and Dan Heng are the same height, March 7th is a bit shorter, and Yanqing is even smaller. It makes sense to have the trailblazer and Dan Heng stand on the ends, with March 7th and Yanqing in the middle, it just looks nicer and more balanced that way. But still! Even when they're accommodating for Yanqing in this quest, they still all arrange themselves the same way, almost every time!

But this changes after Dan Heng and Yanqing become suspicious of the visitors from the Yaoqing.

The dango trio still stand around relaxed and in their usual manner when they go to the artisanship delve and meet Skott,

but Dan Heng takes notice of Lingsha when she arrives, and he and Yanqing mentioned her specifically when discussing their worries.

Yanqing worrying so much about Jing Yuan got me right in the heart, he's such a good boy WEH

And when the four of them go out to the alchemy delve to meet Lingsha for tea, the pattern breaks. Suddenly Dan Heng is standing right up front, and even walks in and enters the scene before March 7th and the trailblazer to get to Lingsha before them. He stays a step in front of them the whole time, too.

And then when Dan Heng and the trailblazer have to go be interrogated by Feixiao! The same deal! Dan Heng walks in ahead of them and stays in front of them! Noticeably so! Enough that even Feixiao takes note and voices it!

Dan Heng is so so fiercely protective of his companions, and I love it, I adore hyper vigilance in the wake of trauma like this, I'm so excited to see what else he does in 2.5, I hope we either get to see him get fucked up or the trailblazer gets fucked up in his place, I wanna see them run through the meat grinder!!!

rereading a book you originally read as a young teenager when you're an adult is a really fun experience if only because i can now appreciate how insanely Sixteen Years Old katniss everdeen is. Something about the way you draw Curly with little dot eyes is just so fitting. It really makes it look like he hasnt slept for weeks

Thank you so much! I love giving Curly little dot eyes. It allows me to accentuate the wrinkles and creases on his face. His passing comment in the game about not sleeping made me think about how stressful his job is. He’s so overloaded it keeps him up at night. As the situation gets worse, his sleep quality gets worse. He’s burning the candle at both ends.

Some folks also mentioned how Curly has horrible posture in the game, which is also something I give my version of Curly because my guy is functioning off of zero hours of sleep. He would not have good posture.

I was (and still am ngl) having a lot of health issues and logged out because i was overwhelmed and really needed a break that I assumed would only be temporary. its a Very long story but tldr- was logged out, new phone, email accounts didnt transfer over like id thought they would, absolutely no clue what email id used for the blog, tumblr Shockingly not helpful about it.

I only recently started drawing again, and got an overwhelming amount of encouragement from my friends to start posting instead of just keeping to myself.

a fisherman by trade, he spends most of his days at sea, or so he claims. lately, he returns in the evenings smelling less of the sea and more of alcohol, with an undertone of something floral that makes your heart sink.

and so, you’ve taken to walking the beach. you make sure to leave his dinner out on the table, another drink poured and ready at its side, but it’s getting harder for your wandering eyes to avoid the lipstick stains on the collars of his shirts. and so you go, wandering the shoreline as the sun sets and the stars come out to dance.

you stumble across hiori on one of these evening walks. his eyes are wide and frightened, and he scrambles away from you as you approach. his hand is bloody and held close to his chest, you note with alarm, and you hold your own palms up in the air in an attempt to signify you mean no harm as you get closer.

(you don’t catch the gleam in those eyes when you crouch down and ask to see his hand. nor do you understand his quiet, pleased clicks as you wrap your handkerchief around the injury.)

his voice is soft as he explains his predicament: a fisherman mistook him for a woman of his kind and stole his sealskin, forcing him to remain on land while he searches for it. you assure him you’ll help him look, and are rewarded with a tight embrace that makes you flush - you hadn’t realized how big he was, or how strong. he assures you he’ll be waiting around here for when you find it - you’ll know it when you see it, he claims, and sends you on your way.

(he knows you’ll be back soon enough. you’ll be oh-so angry when you find his skin draped carefully amidst that man’s coats on the rack. you’ll run back to him with tears in your eyes and his precious coat clutched tight in your fists, and he’ll embrace you with open arms.)
