I based Heket off of those little Desert Rainfrogs and I added Shamura in for funsies ^^ (I wanted to draw them as a black widow, but I couldn’t get a good reference of a black widow’s face)

Been wanting to draw shamura doing more art stuff, and imagining them as a tiny spider weaving blankets on a tiny loom was too cute to pass up. Heket as the smallest/cutest yet temperamental frog is the funniest possible species choice for her, you have good taste LMAO

okay so this all started when I read the original post this was inspired by and though 'wouldn't it be silly to add some art to this 3 year old post?' but then I decided to animate it for funsies!

and gosh I sure do love animating!

So I got the base sketch and then got into the lineart animation for each component!

i don't have the sketches/wips saved at all sense this wasn't really a project and it took less than a day to complete. but here's a peak at the timeline

I animate entirely in my ususal drawing software: clip studio paint. It's just what's easiest for me.

all of these layers outside that folder are just the sparkles! after I finished I added some sparkles for fun! there's a lot of them because it involved a lot of copy and pasting sparkle layers

the bottom folders here are the wings body and facial expression! for everything like the wings arms and flags I was able to just copy paste, reverse, and then align the timing correctly in the timeline

one thing unique about this animation is that the lineart and colors are in separate layers! I tend to do line and colors on the same layer but this time I was using a brush that doesn't have the same lack of anti-aliasing and sense it's a small animation I wasn't as worried about keeping a minimum of layers like usual.

also the movement of the body is only 4 frames! and one one of those is just the hat shifting position

initially I wasn't going to have the second facial expression but when I got stuck on animating the flags I added the second facial expression while taking a break.

the arm animation is just 8 frames! honestly the only tricky part in this is the flags, everything else was pretty simple, which made it super fun to work on because I got both a challenge and mindless therapeutic drawing out of it.

NOW THE FLAGS there was 3 throw away attempts before I got it: you see the thing that made this tricky is finding the balance between believability and visual appeal. a big part of animation is creating the illusion of physics, this is the 'believability' part, I need these to look like flags that are moving and made of flat fabric, HOWEVER if I animate these one-to-one with realistic physics: it won't look good! I can't apply wind to the whole drawing because then the hair would have to react, and wind goes one way, and I wan't the flags to be pointing opposite directions. so without wind the flags would be laying down flat, but that won't look good at all! and furthermore realistic physics would have the flag not being all nice and front facing most of the time. so the trick here was figuring out how much physics to apply to make it look believable, while still making it look good.

one trick I did to help me animate the flags is I actually made a plan rectangle flag as a guide so that the general mass/volume of the flag would stay consistent, this is something i highly recommend when animating! like having a circle guide along a characters head to keep their height and proportions consistent.

after I finally found the balance with the flag lineart coloring wasn't too hard! sense I just had to follow the lines, and THANK GOODNESS the trans and aroace flag have the same number of stripes: saving me time!

and then it all comes together to make a satisfying perfectly looping bundle of cuteness >:DDD I feel like the tau fandom doesn't have as many artists with particularly cartoony/chibi art styles so I've gotta play my part in spreading the joy-whimsy-adorable-sillys >:D

AHEM. Mouth is a comet!!! Ish. The eyebrows and mustache are also flamey!!! Mushroom is an irregular galaxy, and the eyes elliptical. All that purple and whatnot is spacedust and smaller galaxies!!! And the crust is support to resemble somethin like saturns rings :]

I thought abt when Pep accidentally made universes from pizza and thought it fit! Someone also mentioned him jus' bein the whol galaxy or something. I forgot the exact words :(

discussion of (fictional universe) sex trafficking below

I've got to be honest, I've always been kind of unsure about the logic that Haymitch avoided the sex trafficking part of being a victor because his family were already all dead. Because Snow still could have backed him into a corner if he wanted to? Do it or every other McCoy dies as well. Do it or the twin sister dies. Do it or I make life in 12 even harder.

I just don't necessarily agree with Haymitch that Snow no longer had anything to use against him. Him and Katniss are a lot like each other and Snow putting his foot down in Twelve in CF really messed Katniss up for being 'her' fault.

Because 'this man behaved so badly that i killed his family and girlfriend and look he Still has to do this, so don't bother resisting, you have no choice' is just as good of a threatening message as what actually happened, lbr.

(I mostly figured that the fact that he is a violent and unpredictable drunk had more to do with him escaping that, tbh)

But with extra context provided in sotr, I think I buy it more now than I did before. Because Snow Really likes playing games with people and is the type of offer a person two different ways to tie the noose but no way to escape it. For funsies, just to see what they'll pick.

(I know it's only in the movie but i Love the added Seneca scene of him being locked in a room with only a bowl of nightlock berries. Either die of thirst or eat the berries, either way, he wasn't leaving that room alive).

The idea of Snow meeting other victors down the line whose choices are either to submit to it, or they can say no with the small caveat that everyone they love will be murdered! Is So in character for Snow. Because hey, it's a choice! Like how Haymitch had the choice to either die by drinking poisoned milk, kill Wellie by feeding it to her, or to lose all credibility for their entire alliance whose aim was to show the people killing them that they were real human beings with thoughts and feelings who deserve to live safely, by throwing away 'good' sustenance for his starving ally.

There is no good choice here, but it's fun to watch them dig their own grave.

So I guess that makes more sense to me now with added Snow characterisation. He could in all likelihood have forced Haymitch into it if he wanted to, he just didn't want to.

Ouffff well I gotta be honest I probably won’t have as many headcanons about them as I did for the daughters in law of Daeron and Myriah- but I’m more than happy to share my thoughts about them!

Falena Stokeworth

Thoughts: Groomer!!! Get lost lady you’re literally his dad’s age!!!!! Should’ve locked her up in Harrenhall and thrown away the key maybe!

Headcanons: Honestly I think canon already kind of spells it out for us given her age relative to his own, but I wouldn’t be surprised if she was preying on Aegon’s whole mommy issues deal in order to get into a relationship with him. Pain and suffering all around.

Thoughts: Honestly poor girl she deserved sooo much better :( pretty sure her whole deal was supposed to be another commentary on how nobility don’t actually give a shit about the smallfolk even when they’re lovers and all that, but goddamn I just feel bad for her :(

Cassella Vaith

Thoughts: Ngl another girl who deserved so much better- it’s kind of weird how they give her a description but not the other mistresses but hey who am I to judge- makes her easier to draw ig?

Headcanons: Oh she was absolutely psychologically tortured during her time with Aegon because that man is notttt capable of being nice to any woman. I imagine the reason she wasn’t married off after being returned home was because of how traumatized she was

Bellegere Otherys

Thoughts: Okay this may sound stupid as hell given all the shit I talked about Aegon prior to this but like…. Idc, I support her decisions in choosing one of the most rancid men in Westeros to be her lover. In her defense!!!! Pickings for royalty were very slim- her only other options were a former teen dad who’s still hung up on his ex wife and is always busy trying (and failing) to keep his nephews from dying, a member of the kingsguard who’s obsessed with his own sister, and Baelor, of course she was gonna go for Aegon! Bellegere can get the one exception because I think pirate women are really cool and tbh I think she’s also the only one who was with him for funsies before dropping his ass like a sack of potatoes when he got too annoying for her

Headcanons: Ngl I kinda like to think her daughter Nahra took up the whole trading/smuggling/pirating business after her, and Bellegere got to retire and chill in Braavos watching all the shit go down with the Blackfyre rebellions. Good for her <3

Barba Bracken

Thoughts: I mean…. She’s a bitch, but tbh she kinda deserved better too. Even if she is meant to be a bad person, she was also just a teenager when Aegon began sleeping with her and was mostly pushed forward by her own dad, and its sad that she then continued the cycle of abuse to her own sister :(

Headcanons: I kinda like to think she and Daena had a very toxic frenemy-ship, that’s my main reasoning to explain why Aegor was so loyal to Daemon lmao

Melissa Blackwood

Thoughts: I mean, she’s one of Naerys’ only canonical female friends so she gets an automatic like in my books. And also kinda funny that the Bracken/Blackwood slap fight actually caused another Targ civil by just pushing their female relatives in front of a horny king. She absolutely deserved so much better

Headcanons: I refuseeee to believe she died in childbirth, in my head she’s also retired chilling in Raventree Hall with her daughters and occasionally got updates from Brynden about the war crimes he was committing <3

Bethany Bracken

Thoughts: Deserved so, SO much better. Mr lord Bracken sir I will see you in HELL!!!!!

Jeyne Lothson

Thoughts: Only thing I have to say is…. Absolutely gothic horror girlie because holy shit. My god. Was George intentionally writing her story to be horrifying or was it a weird fetish- I’m hoping to god it was the former. Anyways she absolutely deserved so much better than all the adults in her life

Headcanons: For added flavor aka more horror! I do headcanon her to actually be Aegon’s daughter, and I believe Danelle was either her daughter or granddaughter because- well, we do definitely need to sprinkle in some more cursed bloodline shit to the house that’s already doomed cause they’re living in Harrenhall, yippe :))

Serenei of Lys

Thoughts: Boring as hellllll that she died from childbirth like- COME ON!!! Let the lady die from implosion, or slipping on a banana peel or something!!! Also kinda sucks that we barely know anything else about her! I want the lore George!!!

Headcanons: Due to lack of lore, I’m stealing someone else’s previous headcanon that she’s actually a Hightower bastard because 1. Absolutely hilarious and is absolutely the level of hustling scam-artistry that I would expect during Aegon’s reign, and 2. Kinda explains her whole deal- why Jon even brought her to court, why we know nothing about her past, why she’s so distant and kinda secretive. Shout out to whoever came up with that headcanon cause that lives in my head rent free forever now

Yeah there’s not a lot of description on the characters and their physical appearance so that’s just a fun place to take liberties! Tbh I use to draw the Gatsby gang just like the Baz 2013 versions but then when I was redesigning them for fun I asked myself how I thought they might look from my imagination. Lots of tweaking and changes of each character over the course of 3ish years and these are the designs I came up with.

Gatsby being Lebanese was playfully suggested by my best friend who’s also part Lebanese and I have 2 Desi friends so he kinda took form that way. Ppl often speculate that he’s mixed and white passing and I dunno, why not just make him actually dark skin for once and play with that concept? Plus him being mixed race plays a lot into the timeline with immigration in the 20s in my story as well as his mental psyche

Jordan is Afrolatine. At first I just had her Black like me but wanted to make her Latine as well for reasons.

Daisy and Nick I pinned down from old Hollywood stars for funsies. Daisy being a Clara Bow IT girl knock off and Nick being a Gregory Peck nod. Daisy was pretty skinny (Gatsby too) at first but I dunno, I just got tired of every body type lookin the same and figured yeah why not make them chubby and muscular in some areas? Nick I added scars to recently, actually, cause him leaving the battlefield with nothing?? Didn’t feel right to me. A physical and mental scar haunts him now. I also made them both Irish cause again, why not pin down lineage and play with that in a very lineage centric time in America?

Tom probably remains the closest to the 2013 Baz characters. I just really see him as a big buff southern Louisiana man with a preacher’s commanding speech pattern. And that’s partly why I made him a politician! He’s a nod to another old Hollywood star, Clark Gable.

And Meyer is literally Giancarlo Esposito haha! But yeah I also made him Black and Jewish to see how that identity could be played with and portrayed

My retelling has A LOT to do with outside perception and inner struggle/ideas of identity so their background and race and lineage is a big part of the story.

ok so there is this one oc group,, i havent named the groups of ocs for some reason. but it involves james, rixel, kybit, zerose, and volta. james is kinda jaded and boring and tired and is the only one in this damn household who even works. despite everyone being adults capable of working. rixel is kinda arrogant, kybit is a bit dumb, zerose is your average tumblr user, volta tends to be aggressive and stuff. i only have the designs for two and a half so far (as in the "half" i have the hair for but not the clothing). theyre not meant to have any important lore, they just exist for silly funsies ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

i also have zefialte, and two unnamed ocs ❄️ and 🍒. i havent fully decided their personalities yet, but zefialte is fhe kind that tries WAY too hard to be villainous lol. similar to licorice cookie, master frown, sir pentious, spot (itsv), eclipse (pppidwtbamg), if any of those guys sound familiar. and yes he and the two kids bully each other. yes ge is a grown adult tho. lmao

uuhh ive also been working on this one group, consisting of carex, 🐩, 🖥, 🎭, 🟡1️⃣, 🎱🚬, and i plan to have more but so far its just them. idk carex is just some fucked up capitalist guy that can use this dumb mind powers or whatever to cause severe mental distress to the point of,, desperate measures. 🐩 is sure of this but nobody believes her. also carex is a bit toxic yaoiful with 🎭 who is completely emotionless and kinda lets him mistreat him to fill the void. and stuff. i could explain the others but i dont want to rn XD

also theres malori and jasmine. basically malori starts off like,, NOT a good person. largely encouraged by her friends who are also bad people just as she is. jasmine kinda prompts her to become a better person. tho i plan on adding some more nuance than just that yk?
