Is the Gatsby musical an accurate retelling of the original novel? No.

Does it romanticize the fuck out of Gatsby and Daisy? Yes.

Is the idea of the green light being a metaphor for romantic love entirely missing the point? Yes.

Is it a really, really fun time with gorgeous music, beautiful visuals, and a wildly talented cast? You're goddamn right

Chapter 5 of The Great Gatsby is the funniest thing to me. Gatsby judging Nick's lawn. Gatsby being so unable to talk to his crush that he does a full lap around and outside the house in the rain and comes back in through the front door. Nick standing in the hallway, hearing them making painfully awkward conversation, thinking to himself, 'Gee, well, nothing to be doing in this hallway. Guess. I'm going. In the living room.' Everything with that goddamn mantle clock. Nick getting up to go be literally anywhere else for a sec and Gatsby saying 'Where are you going??' like dude don't leave me I don't know what I'm doing!! Daisy crying into Gatsby's innumerable shirts. Gatsby insisting that his tenant play the piano because he's having a Special Moment with his crush. Iconic stuff, reads like a sitcom.
