my hot take as a doctor who fan is that doctor who has never been good or had consistent characterization or plotlines--you just had more tolerance for it being worse when it started, and have more sympathy and nostalgia for older seasons now.

#to be clear i do not think billie piper coming back is an Unequivocably Good Thing. She's a great actress & i love her #but if ncuti's season just becomes a vessel for Rose Is Back i will throw a chair #However. I think a lot of people are critiquing rtd's newer seasons for problems the show has ALWAYS had like they are new issues #'why introduce this person for one episode & flesh the out & make them seem relevant to the plot-' JENNY?#'but she came back in big finish-' LEE MCAVOY??#& that's just one example. i'm not saying these problems aren't problems!#but framing them as /new/ issues means you probably aren't being realistic about doctor who as a whole #and that makes your critiques come across (esp to the showrunners) as being in poor faith at best.#you cant bring back the 'rose tyler & the doctor are forever linked & his love + grief for her is fundamental to his character' guy #and expect him to not bring back rose tyler somehow. like come on guys #also if we can be real for a sec. holding doctor who to netflix Million Dollar Episode standards is probably never gonna happen #the reason everything consistently feels disjointed IS the episodic nature of the show and its many writers.#i have not seen the new season but ive Heard About It & i am not saying the treatment of certain characters is excusable #however i would like to point out what happened to eccleston. & likely whittaker. & realistically any doctor that wasnt 10 11 or 12.#and dont even get me STARTED on martha or donna or mickey or-#like YES. it is a HUGE problem how ncuti & these characters are being treated & again. vessel for rose = i throw chair.#however! this is not a new problem in doctor who & acting like it is is not productive.#anyways-#doctor who #doctor who spoilers #<- for the tags lol

rotating the fact that neve is so caught up on the danger magpie (and by extension lucanis later) will be in if they’re in a relationship with her when in the end she’s the one who suffers for it…. she’s so worried someone will get hurt by this but she’s the one whose city is overrun by venatori cultists. she’s the one who ends up blighted and alone for weeks. hell she’s the one getting injured in the very beginning when she helps stop the ritual. and it’s all because magpie trusts her! they trust her to do what she has to to get the job done. they trust her to understand when their duty comes before anything else. and the thing is she Does! she lives up to what magpie sees in her again and again and again and never once blames them for the choices they make because she knew the cost. but Still she worries magpie is the one in danger with her and that’s so….. neve gallus i think you may be insane. and obvs i haven’t finished her romance yet so idek where this is going. i’m just rotating them in my mind rn.

#this extends to lucanis too right like. i think neve doesn’t perceive him as being in as much danger #bc well. he’s the demon of vyrantium. but he and magpie are born equally as enthusiastic about walking willingly into that danger #despite the fact that in the end the danger was always hers and she never cared about that.#even if i don’t keep the blighted ending canon (we’ll see.) shes still like.#the civilian lover of a kind of unpopular first talon #There Is A Target On Her Back.#but i don’t think she cares about like. the danger *she* is in in this relationship bc she’s choosing it? idk. we’ll see #漫言 #oc. magpie #r. mistakes half-made #r. make a mercy of me #<- for the tags lol #datv spoilers

cant believe we got a new life series today and i was not free until 10 pm to actually watch the first episodes
