Thinking about my "New Gods/Jack Kirby" inspired 40k faction, the "Higharchs", and I think I am going to shift it to more of a "Krypton" inspired thing.

Renaming them the "Azhdar" (after a Persian dragon myth), Higharchs being the names of their leaders. A draconic species, though only their psykers grow wings.

Their culture was peaceful, about to take their first steps into FTL travel, when the Emperor's Great Crusade and Ultramarine legion came to their system and attack on first sight.

The Azhdar managed to hold out for months of brutal fighting, but their homeworld was rendered unlivable and more Marines were coming.

The Azhdar, taking what remained of their people and culture, assembled what of their exploration ships remained and newly built arcs, and cast themselves into the void, detonating their home-world with antimatter to deny it to the Imperium.

Their people, culture, and supplies in stasis, the ships were to remain "adrift" for centuries. The Higharchs figured the Imperium would burn itself out eventually. The ships were programmed to move to the eastern fringe.

10,000 years later, the fleet arrived to their new star system, and saw horrors. The Ultramarines remained, and were attacking a new species, another fledgling culture, The Tau Empire.

The Azhdar warriors, hungering for revenge, intervened and saved the Tau*, and the Higharchs and Ethereals worked out a security/trade deal, with some Azhdar joining the Greater Good fully as well.

Most Azhar prefer to keep to themselves, rebuild their culture while helping Tau, though many of their warriors seek revenge on the Imperium, and join the Combat Auxiliaries.

The average full grown Azhar is about 2 meters in height, though some have been known to grow larger.

Scaly skin, feathers grow from their heads and other places, omnivorous.

Their tech has the "Jack Kirby" inspirations for aesthetics, and they preserved the diversity of their home-world's culture. The "Face" culture, the one that would be the theoretical "Box Art" one would have a Persian-inspired theme though.

Gameplay wise I imagine the few Warriors that do join Tau function a bit like "Custode Equivalent", high armoured assault infantry, armed with power weapons and the like. 3 wounds, units of 3 base.

*not that the Tau needed rescuing in that case, but the help was appreciated.

I love birding so much.
