Wirral photographer wins award for 'tranquil' tiny chapel image

A WIRRAL-based photographer has been recognised in the Landscape Photographer of the Year 2022 competition.

Professional photographer, Gray Eaton, was awarded for his winning image in the Coast Category which features the chapel of St Cwyfan in Anglesey, Wales.

Titled “Sacred Garden”, Gray captured the tiny church, inaccessible at high tide, through a fish-eye view featuring what he described as the “aquatic world surrounding it, with its tranquil, submerged garden of algae”.

Speaking of his award-winning image, Gray told the Globe: “The thing is that chapel has been photographed countless times by many photographers, but I wanted to do something that was a bit different.

“I’ve had that image planned for quite a few years, but there is a huge amount of planning that goes into capturing an image like that. The conditions have to be perfect.

“There are so many things I had to factor in. I wanted the split-level shot but to do that you’ve to have the right time of day, the water has to be clear and not too rough, and the tides got to be in.” ...
