SKELETOUR - Impressions! (1/x)

I tried to capture some moments of the Skeletour Rituals that I attended and will post them under the #skeletour tag! Most were sketched at the Hotels or on trains right after the rituals. Featuring today:

Listen, Danny didn't mean to fall through that portal and end up in a pool of burning ectoplasm. But here he was, after another annoying meeting with Clockwork about time shenanigans and alternate selves, in said pool of goo.

It felt like he was being burned alive. His mouth opened involuntarily to scream, taking the green liquid into his mouth, into his lungs when he ran out of breath. He screams anew, actually hearing his voice in the dense goo. He sounds like nails digging into a chalkboard and dragging across it.

His Lichtenburg scars light up, glowing an eerie green, almost yellow.

He's going to drown. To actually die.

He kicks his feet, but it's as if he is trying to run in a dream. Too slow. His hands wave above him, pushing down. He kicks, and kicks, and kicks.

He can't breathe.

He's in so much pain--more pain than he's ever felt in his half-dead life.

And then, somehow, someway, he breaks through to the surface.

He gulps in the fresh, clean air with loud wheezes. He's still kicking his weakening legs, still moving his arms. He coughs, moving forward.

His feet touch the ground.

He wants to laugh, and to cry when he finally stands, waist still emerged in the hot ectoplasm. He gags, hacking and coughing, maybe even throws up a little, expelling the green goo back into the pool.

When he looks up, he's in a cave. It's tall and expansive, and he could kiss the damp, disgusting stone a few feet away from him.

He's alive.

He pulls himself out of the water, chest heaving, and lies on his back on the cool stone. His clothes are eaten through and barely resemble clothes. His skin steams and... is he glowing?

He is! His arm looks like he lost a battle with a Edward doll from those twilight movies. He's not sparkling, but it's like a faint shimmer out the corner of your eyes. Like something is trying to enchant you.

Is he some type of Fae?

And his nails... They're claws! Freaking claws! He moves his hand around, wiggling his fingers. They look lethal. Like a mon--

"And what do we have here?" A voice, deep and old, rang out.

Danny startles, not having heard anyone come in (and he has super hearing!) He sits up, hair falling around his face (did his hair grow????) and eyes taking in the old man and the people in black surrounding him.

"Who are you?" The man asks.

"...None of ya business."

"Everything is my business in my domain."

Danny stills. He looks closer at the man. He isn't a ghost, maybe a little liminal, but alive and well. "Who are you?" He shot back. "And what's you 'domain'?"

"Since you managed to find my personal Lazarus Pit, you know what I am. But, I suppose I'll humor you. My name is Ra's Al Ghul, the Demon's Head. This is Nanda Parbat, my domain."

Nanda Parbat? What the heck? Demon's Head? "I don't know you. My name is Danny." Should he be giving random people who appear in caves with green pools of ectoplasm his government name? He doesn't know, but if it goes south he has the power to leave. And maybe that's also in his human form too, now, if the claws were any indication.

The old man hums. "How did you get here Danny?"

"I don't know. One minute I was--" He can't tell him that. That's not something a human should know. Not something someone living should know. "--Y'know at home and the next I'm waking up in this goo pool that burned me."

"You are a poor liar. Why shouldn't I slay you here and now?"

Danny snorts. "You can try."

The man's lips twitch in amusement. "Fascinating. Take him to the dungeons. We'll see how long you can endure before you spill all your secrets, dakhil."

Two men came forward to grab his arms. Danny wants to fight them, really, but he's so tired. He can escape later. For now, he lets these men pick him up and take him out of the cave and into what looks like a medieval castle.

"Do be careful not to damage him further before I can see to him."

Maybe that should scare Danny, but it doesn't. He's dragged past a courtyard full of training people, including a boy, lightning quick, fighting against a woman.

Their eyes meet--his, and the shocking blue of the stranger--before he is dragged further into his new temporary home.

He is leaving. He just needs to rest first.

Yes.

So, the plan for this AU is essentially, Dami never went to Gotham at the tender age of ten, and is still in the league (We are ignoring the "Ra's needs his body" canon because that does not fit here) and is still the heir. He's still his little murdery assassin self. I wanna say Danny is 15 here, (we are ignoring ALL CANON in this household today because Danny is not the ghost king and I can't remember shit about the tv show rn so my plan is like, he's strong right, but not like op insane, but like on par with superboy right, and he does errands for clocky and maybe goes through time/dimensions for him idk. I might make him come across half alien (like in those fics where hes kryptonian or martian, you get what I'm saying right) in this idk we're gonna find out together) and Dami is 16. The plan is to have Dami and the Danno fall in wuv and abscond to gotham together, for the glorious scene of "the son you never knew you had" showing up w his boyfriend. Thank you for coming to my ted talk. (the second part is already in my brain but I was up all night watching movies so you get this now, and that later.)\\

(also if you've read my shit before, and even if you haven't, I know that Dakhil isn't technically correct, since its using the wrong alphabet, and is not even remotely written how it sounds, but I purposefully do not use the correct alphabet because that is not what the character will hear. They won't hear دخيل, they're going to hear sounds and they won't be able to see the alphabet, so I figured why not just put the closest equivalent so readers can kinda understand what the character, in this case danny, is hearing? idk maybe it's stupid, but I digress. thanks for coming to ted talk numero 2)

(Lmaoo I remembered. it took me a sec, and the light from my computer is hurting my eyes, but I got distracted right, and remembered--

I almost had danny lie and tell them his name was Dante (which is what a lot of fanfic writers use for Dan) and was tempted to have him impersonate the other danny, and then when clockwork catches wind of his act, have dante come rescue him and get simultaneously confused and angry:

Dante coming to rescue his hopeless alt self Danny: wtf man why are you impersonating me? Danny-Dante, gasping dramatically: what do you mean you're Dante? I've always had this name! My great aunt Tilda gave it to me at the 75th annual Fenton christioning. Are you an imposter? Have you come to harvest my eggs? Dante: You don't have eggs Dante: and what the actual fuck is a christioning Danny-Dante: HA! see? Imposter. Doesn't even know about the christionings. Dante: you made that up Danny-Dante: Prove it. And so the other Danny went back to their dimension to see if so-called "Christionings" are real. He has to wait a year, and when he comes back, he is traumatized. A year later, Dante at Danny-Dante's door: I'm moving in. Danny-Dante: Did you bring Ellie?" Dante, shuddering: No... she enjoyed it. Danny-Dante: Oh god. come in come in. Hopefully she comes to her sense before yultol. Dante, dreading the answer: what is yul-- Danny-Dante: You don't want to know. You really, really don't.

They're alive. They are alive and Seph would laugh except they're bleeding, as well.

But they are alive.

For now, a little voice in the back of his head whispers, before it launches into a complaint about the sand in his boots that takes him back to another time and another place, a time and place he would rather not think about.

"I've lost my job," he observes needlessly; Gren knows that.

"...But I'm glad to see you again." Alive. The last he'd seen of the older man had been on Titan before they'd lost track of one another in the chaos of war. The last place that he'd imagined finding him again would be prison.

Comrade. That word meant something to him once. If he is honest with himself, it still does.

Perhaps that's why his chest had felt so hollowed out ever since he had learned the truth.

He had been betrayed by someone he had admired and purposefully forsaken to suffer a cruel fate.

How much they had endured, shoulder to shoulder in that hellscape, the stubborn and unyielding living among dunes of those who had not been so fortunate. Saved from a scorpion's sting only to feel the venom of a snake who had feigned being a man and—if not a friend—at the very least, a comrade.

The word had meant something. The music box had meant something. Saving his life had meant something.

Apparently, only to him, and the realization of that fact—and all that had followed as a result—had utterly destroyed him, in more ways than one.

Why then... Why had his weary heart soared in his chest at the sight of that officer? The one he recognized as the young soldier he had taken under his own wing in turn.

Seph Crescent.

The name was an unusual one. There was something almost musical about it. Or perhaps it simply seemed the name that belonged to a composition played in some smoky, low-light bar where the drinks are almost as expensive as the fashion.

Regardless, even through the haze of his drug addled mind—how convenient a test subject he had been, imprisoned here and so completely out of his mind with insomnia and anger and pain that it was justified, a mercy really—and even through that, he had recognized him in an instant and the name had quickly followed.

Had he been part of it? that bitter voice in the back of his mind had questioned.

Some part of his mind had still suspected, doubted, accused... even as the other man [ ha! ] had set his plan into motion.

Because Crescent seemed to have recognized him as well.

And maybe, just maybe, Gren is starting to believe that comrade means something to him, too.

"You... You really... did rescue me..." he says in stunned disbelief, even before he realizes that he has spoken them, even as his chest and throat feel tight, constrained.

One of my biggest criticisms of Solas's writing in Veilguard is that, while I feel he's still a nuanced character, his motivations were simplified and stripped away until being just about his pride and Mythal. With none of the nuance of past games about his duty to the (still living) ancient elves, spirits and how the Veil harms them, the casual everyday murder of modern elves. I think this was done because if they didn't want the Veil to always come down (and the Veil was always going to be all or nothing, you can't write around it if it were a choice) and they wanted to satisfy the people who wanted a happier ending for Solas, you would have to remove that complexity.

For my Solas, the above remain his primary motivations for wanting the Veil removed. Mythal isn't not a factor, but more connected to ensuring the continued punishment of the evanuris than to the state of the world. Solas didn't want the world to be as she envisioned even before the Veil went up- he rebelled against her because he thought her vision for Elvhenan was bad, actually.

My Solas can still be talked into the canon atone ending, but I think it would be more of a neutral to bad ending, whether he's alone or he's not. I don't think Solas is ever going to find atonement without community, and the canon ending doesn't give him that. One reason I personally see as the reason Solas avoiding the Mythal fragment in the Crossroads, besides guilt over murdering another aspect of her, is that for much of their existence she was often able to talk him into doing something that seemed to be for the greater good but actually hurt people (hurt him). A lesson he learned and then enacted on others in his life. I see the atone ending as being another note in that song for Solas.

I won't touch much on my own (non-canon) interpretation of why Mythal might ask him to do this as she isn't my character, but I do think it isn't as benevolent as presented in-game. Ultimately I will leave that up to any Mythals tho.

For his Clean State verse, I have in mind two paths or sub-verses, sort to speak. Tackling the chaotic one now, where TJ went ahead with the night club idea, finally opening one.

The club name is Echelon and is located in the Meatpacking District, NYC. Aimed for exclusive clients —celebrities, politicians, high profile entrepreneurs, you name it.

The place reflects TJ's vibe, sleek, elegant, neutral colors with some distinguish accents that point out the elegance and glamour of the place and the patrons.

It has two floors and a rooftop, details under the cut. Images for visual representation:

Ground Floor – Main Club

High-end where big names can enjoy themselves without worrying about prying eyes. You can listen to a mix of deep house, lounge beats, and live DJ sets.

There's a VIP only section with private booths, separated by dark glass with gold etching.

Also a hidden entrance leading to the speakeasy upstairs.

Second Floor – The Speakeasy & Private Lounge

More exclusive, quieter —If you want a more private vibe to be with your date, or you're just meeting clients to make some deals, this is your spot. To maintain the mystery and exclusivity, you can only accessed it through a password

You could listen to jazz, smooth R&B, or lo-fi beats.

There's an invite only poker room in the back, high stakes encouraged.

For specific clientele, there's also a cigar lounge.

Rooftop – The Sky Bar & Lounge

A break from the chaos below, with a killer Manhattan view and a more laid back vibe. Access is by reservation only —guests receive a private code to unlock elevator access.

You could listen to ambient electronic or soft jazz.

There are heated seating for colder nights, and a dedicated champagne and cocktail bar, serving rare and exclusive drinks.

Vincent was up bright and early. Not only was it the best holiday of the year, it was Jamie’s birthday. And like every year, she got spooky pancakes. She was turning five this year, a big birthday- that’s what Jamie called it at least.

Vincent heard the running footsteps before his now five year old jumped out into a Spider-Man pose, followed by a sleepy Johnny who picked her up to put her on a island stool. This year, Jamie was going as Spider-Man, and Vincent was going as Ghost-Spider. They had tried everything to get the other three involved, but Ted wanted to be Ghostface and Kerry and Johnny wouldn’t tell Vincent what they were scheming up. But Vincent wasn’t going to let his baby girl down. He had dyed his hair and everything for the occasion.

“I’m Spider-Man.” Jamie growled out, then started chugging her juice.

“That’s Batman voice, hon.” Kerry said as he lowered her up and reminded her to slow down.

Kerry was a saving grace in the mornings when it came to busy days and coffee. Halloween was basically first Christmas, running around to get everything perfect for Jamie’s birthday and trick or treating in River’s neighborhood. It was a lot and most of the time got overwhelming.

But unfortunately, work and school still existed and Halloween was a busy day for Vincent. Everyone wanted scary tattoos on Halloween. He understood, he got his skull on his thigh on Halloween. Didn’t make it suck any less when he couldn’t spend his day with Jamie and Ted.

By the end of the day, Vincent was questioning if he could give Ghost Spider justice, he was exhausted and ready to go to bed, or watch scary movies. But he had a promise to keep and a little girl to make happy.

He pulled into River’s driveway, seeing Mike holding Jamie outside in a cowboy get up. Vincent couldn’t help but smile as he got out, his little girl yelling for him excitedly in her Spider-Man costume. Vincent still had to get ready and had to eat before they went anywhere.

He had yet to see his husbands when he walked in, but didn’t question it with chaos around the house. He smiled at Ted and Dorian playing together, Ted wasn’t Ghostface though… he was in a Venom spider get up. Maybe he changed his mind last minute.

Vincent was a damn good Ghost-Spider. He loved it the second he put the suit on and Jamie squealed when she saw him, running to him. She babbled excitedly about her day and Vincent ate a slice of pizza while she talked, while also making sure Ted was ready.

“Where are your dads? They’re supposed to be here by now.”

Ted suddenly giggled, then covered his mouth. Okay now Vincent was suspicious where were those two? Especially when Ted ran away to avoid telling Vincent why he was giggling… then the front door opened.

And in walked Kerry and Johnny, as Spiderpunk and a weird Sci-fi version of Spider-Man for Johnny’s arm.

Jamie shimmed out of Vincent’s arms in favor of Johnny, who scooped her up and kissed her cheek. Vincent was close to tears, seeing his two ‘tough’ rockerboys dressed up like nerds for their daughter.

“We doin’ cake now or later- are you okay?” Kerry had come up close to Vincent to talk to him, but Vincent just pulled him in for a kiss, hearing several ‘ew’s and gagging noises from the kids.

“You two are sweet, you know that?”

“You know we have a five year old to keep happy? Did you really think we weren’t gonna do what she asked?” Kerry smiled, picking up Ted when Johnny and Jamie walked over.

“Cake!” Joss called out, carrying a homemade cake with Spider-Man themes on it. Jamie smiled big at the sight and the parents knew this was gonna be a long, sugar filled night. But they happily sang happy birthday to their daughter, Johnny kissed her cheek when it was done and she blew out the candles.

After they managed to get the kids to eat actual food, River and Mike (who were absolutely dressed like the guys from Brokeback Mountain), rounded them up for trick or treating.

Vincent watched them run off, laughs and excitement filling the air. Johnny came up behind him and wrapped his arm around his shoulder.

“Thank you…”

“For what?”

“For dressing up. I know it made her happy. Made me happy too.” What? Johnny looked good in a skin tight suit!

“Oh I’m sure it did.” Johnny was clearly controlling himself, especially when both of his partners were in skintight suits and looking fine as hell.

“The fuck are we just standing here for? I didn’t dress up for people to not see me.” Kerry walked out, looking between the two in confusion, then raised a brow.

“Okay no, we can wait until she goes to moms this weekend.” Vincent pulled back, hearing Johnny huff with a grin…

His announcement could wait, it was Jamie’s day.
