Q: A question for you, Max. Lando's boss said yesterday that he's performing at world champion level. Do you think he is? And what qualities do you think make him a potential world champion if he is?
MV: Lando is very, very fast. I think that's what you need to be. And that's why he's also in Formula 1, and that's why he's performing at the level that he's at. And it will only get better with experience as well, right? I mean, of course, I've been fighting for championships probably a bit longer, so you're probably a bit more experienced with that. But at the end of the day, when the team is working well, the car is working well, you're driving well, then it just comes to you as well. So, yeah, I never doubted that anyway.

Half Immortal (二分之一不死) | 西瓜炒肉
Links: Novelupdates | KK Translates (1-18), Mariniere (Foxaholic, 19-63), Septhis (KnoxT, 64-199)
Tags: Infinite flow, Horror, Mystery, Shounen ai
Chapters: 199
Read on: 06/08/2025 to 06/16/2025
A new Infinite Flow to catch my attention~ I really can't get enough of these no matter how many I read. The premise for this one was quite interesting, too.
Yan Wei wakes up one morning to a friend's call, asking him about a hallucination his friend's patients had been seeing- A black Tower, getting slowly closer to them. Yan Wei, glancing out his window, sees it too.
Upon entering the tower, Yan Wei enters into the Tower's horror game- with ninety-nine levels that had to be ascended before one could make a wish. Would he wish to leave? Or wish for something else?
His skill from the beginning is his best defense, but also his best attack- he is Half Immortal. Invulnerable to instant death one day, completely mortal the next. Back and forth, mortal and immortal. Daring to tease the ghosts one minute, scrambling to safety the next.
Along with the mysterious silver haired man he meets on the first floor, Yan Wei steps into the unknown. Ascending-and fighting against- the Tower.
Despite the translation issues (of which there are. many. more on that later) I really liked this novel! Yan Wei and Yan Mingguang are interesting and I enjoyed the gaggle of side characters they grouped up. The plot was executed well, and the foreshadowing was good! I was chewing on mysteries as the plot unfolded the entire time 👍
Some reviewers said that they didn't feel like the difficulties of the instances were steadily increasing, but I'd like to say that's not really the case. The instances topped the previous ones in difficulty every time, its just the difficult element in each instance changed per scenario. Some instances were more difficult because of other players and the Tower's scheming, while others had the plot of the instance itself be the difficulty. I liked the variety, especially since there are only 6 instances overall.
Yan Wei is neat. He's initially very cold- working for his own safety and what was most efficient to clear the scenario. He says often that he's quite selfish, that he's a cold and calculating person. Outwardly, he's nice and talkative, and you feel close to him with just a few words exchanged. And on lower floors, he relies on Yan Mingguang to help hide his own brilliance and stay away from prying eyes- his skill is a problem, and could easily be exploited while his stats are still low. As he climbs, though, you can really see him start to contradict what he constantly tries to claim- he does care about those around him. And to even further contradict himself, he does his best to make sure those he got close to this time make it to the ninety-ninth floor with him... He is the one who deduces in the team, the defacto leader as soon as he starts unravelling the plot.
And while it may seem like he is too in tune with the Tower's tricks- there's a reason. A past hidden behind him that he also has to slowly unravel and come to conclusions on, himself.
Yan Mingguang is nice. Outwardly cold and intimidating, yet actually kind and empathetic. He doesn't want to leave other players to danger like Yan Wei does, but still follows Yan Wei's words. This also has its own reasons, and it won't be simply explained as 'love at first sight'. I like all the twist and turns on what exactly these two experienced in the past- what both of their identities are.
Side characters! This novel has a great cast! I really liked seeing Lin Zhen and Yu Feizhou sticking around from almost the beginning and the introduction of Xu Miaomiao from being an opponent to being firmly on Yan Wei's side. Lin Qing, Gao Ming, its a relatively small cast but there aren't many instances for Yan Wei to build up his relationships in on his way up. And the ones he does make are fun.
Instances themselves! I think my favourite instance is the fourth, Puppet Castle. I've seen 'doppelganger' instances before in Infinite Flow novels, but this one was done particularly well. Very fun!
Now to talk about translation, even before I normally do in these. KK's 18 chapters are completely fine. The biggest thing for them is awkward sentences, but its really not an issue and gets smoother towards the last chapters they translated. Mariniere is also fine, but some sentences are a little mangled and not smoothed out in the edited MTL. These are easily untangled by anyone who understands what is currently happening in the novel- and its fine.
Septhis's uploads at KnoxTL is uhhhh. Well its something. It is Perfectly readable- the sentence structures are fine, they read smoothly and are better than the MTL (trust me, I checked). The issue with this translation is that specific terms (e.g what is definitely a 'hedge maze' is translated as 'jungle maze') are just... Odd? Translated oddly, or too literally, or suddenly swapped when referring to them again later (e.g Xuannian-> Xuan Bird-> Blackbird; 'Lou'-> Malice-> Malevolence; Unorganized group-> The Remaining Flower). The Tower, as an example, is almost always reffered to as just 'building', and a few times there was pronoun issues, and towards the end there was like half a chapter where both Yan Wei and Yan Mingguang were called 'Yan Wei' regardless who was talking.
Despite this! Its worth reading. I logged most of the egregious examples in the readmore, most as arc specific but also a few others at the very bottom. If you get confused while reading, its there as a little guide! I really still think its worth reading and I really liked the story regardless of the translation issues. The extras seem to hint at a sequel, and I reallyyyy want to see it I need to figure out where the author uploads their novels. I'll find it 🔍
How was the translation? See the above. Mariniere has the pagination 44->45, 62->63 broken, need to get the link from the TOC.
Would I recommend this novel? Yes!
Would I reread this novel? Absolutely.
Trigger Warnings: Suicide, Gore, Eye gore, Self harm, Torture, Human sacrifice, Rape attempt, Cannibalism, Bullying, Animal death, Sexual abuse (mention)
Arc names and detailed triggers, detailed translation issues under the cut:
1) First Floor: Promenade Hotel
Suicide (mention), Gore, Eye gore, Self harm (?)
2) Seventh Floor: Ankang Ancient Town
Gore, Torture, Human sacrifice
3) Ninteenth Floor: School of Death
Gore, Rape attempt*, Cannibalism, Suicide, Bullying
*lol not even close to actually happening
4) Fourty-Ninth Floor: Puppet Castle
Animal death, Self harm (technically), Gore
"Jungle maze" is clearly a hedge maze. For some reason Xue Wan in particular has the wrong pronouns most of the time.
The Remaining Flower is the group of unorganized people. It took me too long to figure that out...
5) Eighty-Ninth Floor: Endless Train
Gore (Wow), Torture
Literally left 2 untranslated hanzi in.. Lin Qing's pronouns are wrong sometimes. A sentence where Yan Wei should have said his immortality would activate in two minutes was wrong, and said his immortality only activated for two minutes (obv wrong). . Youtubers?? I want to know what that original word was, streamers?
6) Ninety-Ninth Floor: The Coffin of the Black Sea Town
Suicide, Gore, Sexual abuse (of bought brothel girls, mentioned)
A term changed to 'Phoenix Flower Card'- its the wooden plaque with a flower that Yan Wei found in the deceased student's bedroom.
Shen Yuanwai suddenly started being translated as Squire Shen? Not sure if its because they weren't referring to his full name. Guanyin's sacred water = Guanyin's Pure Bottle ? Extended sequence where Yan Mingguang is called Yan Wei. Its obvious who is who but its annoying.
7) Benevolence
Oughhhhh the cliffhanger at the end.... Author are you writing the sequel.... i want it. I want itttt.
KK: Some stiff sentences, some typos. Overall its fine, typical of KK.
Mariniere: Fine, some sentences are structured awkwardly and some are mangled, some typos. I'll forever be sad that they translate Yan Wei's silly nickname as 'waste snack' instead of 'useless snack'- its funnier. Pagination 44->45, 62->63 is broken, need to get the link from the TOC.
KnoxT: Yuemeng is translated as Moon/Moonlight, Polian as Broken Scythe, Qixing as Morning Star, Xuannian as Xuan Bird->Blackbird. Also the reward from ascending the tower three times is inexplicably translated as 'Three Times Lifting the Building'. Defining words are swapped around in same cases. Calling the tower just 'the building' and the consciousness of it 'Lou' or 'Malice'... And the 'stairs' is translated as 'ladder'. Yan Mingguang's code name 'Zhou' is translated as 'the day'.

MLCB Concert: XSY's Farewell
Tumblr media
In truth, I really don’t like this part, because it also represents that we are bidding our characters farewell for good.
Tumblr media
In the morning, when I was getting my makeup done - in an instant, I returned to that summer. I felt that, to be together with good friends, and then having experienced as sweltering a summer as that…
Tumblr media
Such an ardently hot-blooded jianghu was presented to everyone; to stand here today-- Because… Because, during the time of Mysterious Lotus Casebook’s initial broadcast, everyone and all the lianluorens must also be thanked. I know there must have been a lot of difficulties when it was first broadcasted, right? To have reached this step today, I think is already very good. I think it is a result of every person’s hard work.
Tumblr media
Just now, when we were off-stage, Yan-laoshi said something I really like; in an instant, I lost my composure. I don’t think fate is something that will come with enough waiting, or something that can be insisted on having. It’s when there comes a day where we stand together and work hard to strive toward a common goal. The sentiments of that moment, I feel, last forever.
Tumblr media
I hope, however many years later, everyone is still together - that lianluorens can still be together. Thank you, everyone. This summer, thank you to every person. Thank you to all my good companions; thank you, every single person.
Tumblr media
Di Feisheng! Until we meet again!
【莲花楼演唱会】 Mysterious Lotus Casebook Concert - 20230916
江湖路远   山高水长  祝 「繁华」 似锦! The roads of the jianghu stretch far; the mountains are lofty, and the rivers are long. I wish your future to be as splendid as an embroidered tapestry! 「追光」 而行  不负初心  愿 永生难忘! Chase the light as you journey; live up to the original intentions of your heart. I hope this will be unforgettable for your lifetime!
Any mistakes are my own.
