Not gonna lie hearing Cayde talk about being within the Traveler after he died hit me in the feels. Like the music when he says “Nothing, but not a bad nothing. A peaceful nothing.” And the way it swells when he says that Sundance was there. It made me feel sad and mesmerized 🥺

The moment that I knew he wasn’t going to stick around is when he has that convo with Ikora and he’s describing how the Traveler and Sundance shining so bright there feels like home and how he much he misses it, even more then he missed her and everyone else.

Right then I knew that his stay was only going to be temporary. He was at peace and he missed Sundance far too much for him to ever actually stay.

The writing and music for the campaign overall was top notch. A good story makes you feel something,and The Final Shape definitely did just that...multiple times.

Cayde was never going to feel right without Sundance. Our Ghost's are quite literally a part of us. Just look at Osiris and Sagira. There are times he still talks to her,reaches for her and she's not there. It would be like a piece of you is missing. A phantom limb. Knowing that something should be there,but isn't.

Imagine living centuries with someone who has always been there and suddenly...isn't.

Cayde knew what it felt like to be without a Ghost. So I'm sure it pained him to see his favorite to go through that loss as well. He wanted to see Sundance again, and we needed a Ghost.

Cayde giving us his Light so that we could live, so that Ghost could live,and so that he could see Sundance (and eventually us as well) again, was the best possible outcome. He got the closure he needed, WE got the closure we needed, so did the Vanguard and even Crow, got the closure he needed (and the forgiveness he needed from Cayde himself).

And now, like I said before, we get to take him with us. Literally. His Light, is now our Light.

Cayde's final act was one of love, and sacrifice. Although it was bittersweet, everyone won. It's probably the best hand Cayde ever played.

also, here's an extra bit of heartbreaking dialogue for u from week 3 of VC after nimbus asks osiris if he's ok :') like u can definitely tell these logs are starting to get to him and he's got the experience AND self awareness to recognize that.

i think the parallels between o14 and chiomaya are both interesting and absolutely heartbreaking. while it's great that osiris was able to steer himself off his obsessive path before it became truly destructive, it's still awful to hear about what chioma went through, how things kept getting progressively worse to the point to where it wasn't about "supporting maya and seeing the big picture" anymore, IT WAS ABOUT KEEPING HER LOVER SAFE AND BY HER SIDE NO MATTER WHAT AND HOW SHE DOESN'T FEEL CONNECTED/LOVED ANYMORE!!! I just now finished the Season of the Wish story tonight, because I was putting it off...for no actual reason I just was. But not only is this the absolute perfect time to finish it, on the eve of the Final Shape (can't play on the 3rd cuz of the servers so it's basically the eve), but I also got to hear the convo between Osiris and Saint. Got to hear them talk about just spending time together, for themselves rather than others. They literally said I Love You to each other omg. On the second day of pride month too. It legit made me tear up omg it was so fucking sweet. AAAAAHHHHHHH.

Alright, considering this a test round bc testingcheats wouldn't work to give them a house that fits them all. Im going to restart with the same sims later and give y'all a full timeline then bc it was 2am and my typing is too incoherent to tolerate editing. cutoff for yall's sakes since I'm putting this in the main tag. I'm going to tag this destinythesims so y'all who are trying to keep up can.

When it started they all talked to each other immediately, except Drifter. He stood alone by the side of the road, thinking about food. Eris and Crow went in first, to read and watch sports respectively. Drifter got the first skill unlock by talking to Osiris, charisma, and Osiris immediately ran inside.

Everyone was reading. Zavala read a series of unfortunate events, until Eris hugged him, causing him to set it down so she could steal it. Before that she was reading LOTR, but I guess that didn't suit her tastes. When Zavala went to get a new book, everyone got the dislike notification over their heads.

Drifter tried to talk to Saladin about food and Saladin immediately walked off. He coped by doing pushups in the driveway before trying to restart the convo with Ikora. She leaves, Drifter follows, and as soon as Sloane is alone in the driveway, she starts doing situps.

Saladin thinks about Drifter while he takes a shit. ofc he does.

Crow seeks to improve the world. I tell you know, he will not. Remember that for later.

Sloane and Zavala hug. That actually makes sense.

"Genius lesson. Osiris is a genius." "Snob lesson. Osiris is a snob."

They all freeze behind a bus bench while Zavala and Drifter hug. Why the hell are they hugging. What kind of breakdown (or fake breakdown) would have to happen to make Zavala hug Drifter.

Crow makes scrambled eggs and bacon w/ the current goal of "have friends." He finishes making the food, doesn't eat it, and starts complaining about being hungry.

Drifter walks into the bathroom while Sloane is looking in the mirror, and starts talking about crabs. Ikora kicks them out, so Drifter goes to the kitchen and eats the half-eaten sandwich Eris left out. Once Ikora is out, Saladin washes a plate in the bathroom sink, supposedly to avoid Drifter.

Everything is fairly calm for a while. Drifter goes outside and takes a nap on a bus bench. Crow is still hungry from not eating the food he made, so he goes to make new food next to the made food.

He starts a fire.

Everyone freaks the fuck out, except Drifter, who is oblivious to it all, still asleep on his hobo bus bench. Crow doesn't put himself out. Osiris, Saladin, and Ikora just watch him. Eris, Zavala, and Sloane are outside, so they don't notice. When Sloane finally goes in, she walks right past Crow and rummages the fridge, gets food, and calmly walks back outside.

I finally intervened to make Crow put himself out. Once he does, they all go outside. Everyone screams in the driveway while Drifter sleeps peacefully ~20-30 ft away. Zavala notices the fire and suddenly everyone rushes in to extinguish it, like they didn't have the sense to without him mad about it. Ikora and Saladin put it out. But only outside.

Drifter finally wakes up, passes all of them on the street, goes in, sees the fire, goes out, and just stands in the back yard thinking about food until the fire gets to him. Saladin comes over to watch him burn and does not help. Eventually Zavala walked over, Saladin left, and I realized how late it had gotten and finally intervened again to put the whole fire out bc you can't save in a fire.

So that's where we've left off. I'm going to give them a proper house this time and see what happens. Also going to see if they'll get themselves jobs, or if I have to do that too. I'll reblogs this w/ a photo dump later, so stay tuned :)

I just had the hilarious thought of making a bunch of D2 characters with roughly their personalities in the Sims, forcing them to be roommates, and leaving the game idle to see what happens. any takers?

I know some people are staunch Osiris lovers and I keep seeing posts about how stupid ppl are for getting annoyed at Osiris and not seeing that his bad attitude are forms of grief and urgency.

Like yes I understood why Bungie wrote him the way they did- I get that it’s supposed to be a manifestation of his grief and feelings of losing his light.

I also feel like they also used his character to try and add urgency into the campaign which overall imo there was no sense of urgency. Despite what we saw in the opening cutscene the story felt like a meandering romp through a new and fun city. Not exactly the last ditch effort to stop the Witness in his tracks. Osiris definitely tried to make us feel that and it obviously didn’t click with a lot of people.

I also don’t think it’s Osiris yelling and being an ass that specifically annoyed a lot of people. I was legitimately getting angry at Osiris and his treatment of our Guardian. Frankly on a personal level idc what someone is going through I don’t want to be talked to that way - most people don’t. So when a rpg game has a character talking to the player like that is often feels personal because of the nature of rpgs. Hence why his behavior annoyed so many players. There’s also a major lack of resolution between Osiris and our Guardian. Osiris gets resolution with Nimbus where the two understand each other better by the end but our Guardian doesn’t get that. Often in Destiny when NPCs treat each other poorly there is some resolution to it or acknowledgement of it in the story - eg Crow and Saladin, Caitl and Zavala. When characters interact there is usually a resolution to conflicts between them.

As a player character we don’t get that. Which is why is feels extremely off putting to have Osiris kinda being a raging dick for most of the DLC to transitioning to our patient, wise mentor in our training montage. When he wasn’t acting like that just a few missions before. And then he gets some great scenes with Nimbus and him delving deeper into their grief. And of course that gives us as the player context to his behavior BUT it doesn’t resolve his treatment of our Guardian and his behavior towards them on a character to character based interaction. Part of this is of course Bungies dislike of assigning any emotion, consequence, character arc to our Guardian. So things don’t really happen to the Guardian, things more happen around the Guardian and the Guardian is simply there. But that’s an entire other issue that at least in this DLC Bungie put some work towards fleshing the Guardian out besides empty void that you run around killing things as and dress up. (at least we got voice lines)

So ya of course many players are annoyed at Osiris. People irl that act like that can be grating and frustrating to interact with esp in stressful high stake situations. Bringing a character like that into the realm of fiction doesn’t mean people will automatically be able to ignore his flaws and understand he’s just going through extreme grief. Coupled with any form of resolution between him and our guardian. I personally found Osiris annoying af in this DLC. I get why - and I think he did need to be written like that BUT I also would have a very different opinion if we even got a convo between Ghost and Osiris where he not necessarily apologizes but at least directly addresses his grief to the Guardian. (Which I’m sure there were some throw away voicelines where this does happen but nothing memorable). I also am still going to be annoyed at Osiris even though I understand why he was the way he was during this DLC. Like it’s okay to dislike a character.

2. when in canon does your self insert come in? do you have a scene in mind for your entrance?

only a specific scene in mind with miles performing at a smaller venue some of its newer music. after the show she's just chatting with a bunch of the clubgoers and spots ls kinda staring off in her direction and strikes up conversation (HE IS SO NERVOUS BECAUSE HE WASNT MEANING TO STARE) the conversation is mostly onesided bc aforementioned nervousness but i think venus would be there with him, so she carries convo very well between the three of them. venus idly mentions one of ls' passions and miles immediately starts asking about it because it never absorb a whole lot of info through her own curiosity and much prefers hearing info from others. she asks about brine pools and that gets ls to really start talking

3. how do the other characters generally feel about your self insert?

i think venus and miles would get along super well. both a little rowdy (though venus is MUCH LOUDER than it) and both care for LS a lot. v- would not like her. "you care for such a weakling like that cunt, not worth my time" or something like that. osiris gets along well enough as she usually does but dont think theyd get Super close?

Rylan had to keep reminding herself that she wasn’t in the middle of New York city right now, she didn’t have to be wary of every single person that walked up to her. This was a small town, it was much more low key, not everyone had walked straight off the set of Law and Order SVU as much as her constant watching of that show might try to convince her otherwise. Plus this man seemed to genuinely want to be helpful and not wanting to bother Nate at work she was at the mercy of letting a stranger come to her aid or otherwise she would be walking home with Savannah in her arms instead. The two year old could walk but not that distance. 

“Maybe to you, I don’t think I’d be able to do it on my own, not without the ongoing journey being really fu…flipping dangerous.” Rylan joked with a small smile, peering into the trunk at the same time as him, keeping everything crossed that there was actually a spare there because otherwise…well no she would do the unthinkable and be positive. Letting out a shrike of excitement she never thought a spare tire would cause her to make in a million years she felt Sav jolt in her arms as she looked up at the loud noise, moving to pat the back of her head softly as she apologised quietly under her breath. “Sorry angel, go back to sleep.” Osiris, that was a name she didn’t hear often, and she was from the fashion world. Juniper was apparently still full of surprises. Oh they were neighbours? Well that was putting her even more at ease, the tiny frisson of joy in her chest as Nate was (even if it was incorrectly) called her husband silently wishing it wasn’t something she had to correct the man on. “Oh well, no he’s not my husband we’re not actually married. He’s my boyfriend, he’s Sac’s dad, we’re just not married yet.” Did she sound bitter? She hadn’t meant to sound it but…well…what was he actually waiting for? “No you really don’t, you don’t sound creepy. We made our presence known when we arrived with this little one running around like a headless chicken and the amount of boxes we came up and down those stairs with. Can’t blame you for noticing. Sorry about that by the way.”

osiris knew that he had to come off a little strange at first. he couldn't imagine being a mother with a small child and have a stranger pull up on the side of the road to help. so he had tried to be a friendly as possible and informative. showing the card letting her know he did own a shop he felt was probably the most helpful. with all the rain that had came through it had made it a little chilly out and he had wanted to offer a little help so the two of them wouldnt end up sick while he changed the tire.

"you arent in my hair, really no trouble at all. changing a tire is probably the easiest thing that could protentional be wrong with your car asides changing windshield wipers." he explained as he nodded. he had made his way over to her door and waisted no time popping the trunk open to take a look to see if there was a spare. "we wouldnt let that happen. there are far too many friendly people around juniper to let you walk home with a child on your hip." he reassured her. "pleasure to meet you." he told her softly as he looked through to find the spare. "here.." he said softly. "you have one." he gave her a small smile. "i'm osiris.. or just iris.. poor little thing. she was be exhausted.. i will try my best to hurry up so we can get you two back out on the road and back home. i was just heading back to my own place at the apartments down the road." he explained. "i think you guys may be on my floor.. i had seen you with.. your husband i suppose moving in." he told her. "i think i just keep making myself sound more creepier." he laughed softly as he moved quickly to his own truck to get his jack and began to jack the car up. "we live on the same floor was all i was getting at."
