My Kastle Scene Wishlist

I’m not sure what Kastle content we might get in Daredevil Born Again, but there is also talk that they might make a new Punisher show. What are some scenes/parallels that you would like to see between Frank and Karen? Here’s a few of my musings

Reversed Hospital Scene! I would like to see Frank momentarily panic over Karen getting hurt and have a turn holding her hand in a hospital bed. I feel like we deserve this scene so bad. (Caveat: Frank CANNOT be the reason Karen got injured, even if it’s just she got shot in the arm or has a concussion; Karen is in dangerous situations regardless of Frank being near her or not and he needs a wake up call for that). Bonus points for the total opposite of telling her to walk way—this time HE GETS IN THE HOSPITAL BED and puts his arms around her and just holds her and Karen gets to feel completely safe for a few minutes. Just go all out with the hurt/comfort trope for these two. Anyway, I have a whole WIP fic devoted to this, so honestly it has become my top wish to see some parallels drawn with another hospital scene.

Karen gets to help in a fight and shoots someone. I feel like since they never got to have the Wesley conversation, a way to show-not-tell would be for Karen to kill a bad guy and then Frank come check on her to be like, ‘hey are you okay?’and she’d be like, ‘yeah, I am.’ She’d be a bit shaken up but grimly holding it together because it’s not her first time killing someone. This would also work in contrast to the scene where Amy shoots the guy in the hall and then Frank infamously takes the gun from her and takes the responsibility of his death away from her. Sorry to make Karen suffer because I know she’ll feel bad about it, but I’d be okay with seeing her character go a little bit darker to save someone’s life. She’s been carrying that gun since DDs2, she deserves to take out a baddie on her own and it’d be a great segue into rehashing some of her past that Frank NEEDS to know about

Frank meets Paxton Page. Will the show make time for this? Probably not. But damn do I want to know what Frank would say if he knew that Karen’s dad cut off his only daughter, when Frank would do anything—anything—to spend one minute with Lisa again. I’d love to see Frank go to Fagan Corners with Karen to put flowers on her mom and brother’s graves. We spent three seasons of Frank being able to open up around Karen and talk about his family with her. Meanwhile she has never once said anything about the losses she’s suffered. Frank needs to know and I don’t want it all jammed into one big backstory dump where she tells him she killed her brother and Wesley in the same conversation. Another option would be for Frank to accidentally visit Karen on the anniversary of her mom/Kevin’s death and she is having a breakdown. If we can’t get into any of Karen’s past, have Frank find out Karen has his burner phone saved in her contacts listed as Home. I’ve seen that idea in several different fics and it just needs to be canon. They are Home to each other.

A scene where Frank holds Karen all night and they don’t have sex, but it’s profound. (Think like Spike holding Buffy). If they are nervous about comics fans being mad about Frank Castle finding love again, give us some physical intimacy and closeness where you know they mean everything to each other but can’t cross the line and make things real. Fan fic writers will know we won and then fill in the rest for those cowards.

If they’re willing to make Kastle real, give us a goddamn kiss. Actually, just let them have sex, because Karen Page has been forced to stay chaste for YEARS and she deserves to get laid. And Jon Bernthal seems to be more than comfortable doing sex scenes soooo please just make it the most beautiful thing ever filmed because they are so in love with each other. It has to be noticeably different in tone from the scene with Beth. And Karen cannot get shot the next day, don’t even start with any of that bull$hit trauma for Frank.

Kastle pillow talk scene. Since it’s Disney Marvel now, I don’t know how much we can hope for with a sex scene. So the pillow talk scene that follows had better be some life-altering confessions of love and cuddles. Do not even think about him sneaking out before she wakes up like he almost did with Beth. Karen deserves something good to happen to her for once, let her have a perfect night and a gentle, soft morning after. She deserves it even if Frank isn’t sure if he does.

Karen Page and Dinah Madani Friendship. I’m rewatching The Punisher s2 and one thing that pissed me off was the scenes of fake bonding between Dinah and Krista Dumont, drinking wine together and discussing men (Frank and Billy, who else). So. To make up for that, we need some genuine female friendships, like Karen and Dinah going to a shooting range together or gym or going out to a nice bar for girls night. Even if Frank has been keeping his distance, these ladies have struck up a friendship and Karen has someone to hang out with besides her lawyer coworkers.

Karen gets to meet Micro/The Lieberman family AND Curtis. David knows how Frank really feels about Karen. Curtis needs to find out Frank DOES still have something good holding him in this world. And Karen should meet Frank’s friends.

Okay those are some of the scenes I want to see for Frank and Karen! If someone could please get this list to the Punisher writers for the future of the show, it’s actually very important that we get some of this or I’m gonna have to come write for the show myself. 🙈

All details vary based on verse, but in general I write Nancy based on the Sin City (2005) film, with occasional elements or connections from the comics pulled in as needed. However, her primary verses and character arc will come from the first film, without influence from A Dame to Kill For (2014) unless specifically plotted. I’m happy to write her into AUs and fandom crossovers, but for ease, I typically write as though Basin City exists within the Marvel/DC universes as a lawless entity unto itself, much like Madripoor.

And now, some warnings! Sin City contains quite a lot of triggering material, specifically:

Nancy is a stripper at Kadie's nightclub and still is in some verses, so this may be written out occasionally and referenced often.

She's also canonically in love with a man old enough to be her father, so there will be legal age gap shipping here.

Finally, she's been the target of a rapist/pedophile (Roark Jr. / That Yellow Bastard) once or twice, verse depending. I will not be exploring that theme in depth in any threads, since I'm not comfortable writing underage/non-con, but it will be referenced from time to time as part of her history.

twd!verse: A zombie apocalypse AU that more or less follows a Walking Dead timeline. Frank's family was killed by humans at the start of the outbreak, which sets him on the path as the Punisher. When he's not taking out the trash, he lives alone in a remote, sustainable cabin surrounded by traps.

HOKAY. NOW. I’ve given it some thought and here’s what I’d love to see in Season 2. Maybe spoilers if you haven’t seen it yet. (No one asked for this but guess what I’m doing it)

First and foremost I do NOT want Jigsaw as our season 2 villain.

Absolutely not. 

The setup is there, sure, but the payoff of making us wait at least one more season will make it all the more sweeter, I promise. Russo is a major plot point in Frank’s story no matter which variation of him we are looking at, he’s a primary villain in the same way Kingpin is for Daredevil. We can wait. We probably SHOULD wait. 

What I REALLY REALLY WANT us to get for next season is Punisher!Cap. 

I know how goddamn ridiculous this sounds, but bear with me here a second. 

Season 2 is (probably) going to open with Frank in a better place mentally than where we leave him at the end of this season, working towards more of an ‘after’ and trying to get the pieces of himself into something more cohesive than what he is at the moment. As it should. But as much as the movie ‘verse seems intent to ignore the “TV” ‘verses, the TV/Netflix runs seem to at least have a passing consideration for the shit that is going down everywhere else. Which means that Steve Rogers canonically isn’t wearing the Captain America stars and stripes at the moment (they can say what they want but the star is off his costume and Sebastian Stan’s eyebrows can’t keep a secret for shit so we’re looking at Nomad!Cap for Infinity War)

There’s a comic run that I basically want to mirror this (short version of this is go read Matt Fraction’s run on Punisher: War Journal), and it’s frustratingly topical because post Civil War in the comics, the Captain America mantle was taken up by a Neo-Nazi and his crew of immigrant murdering toadies out in Arizona that broadcast their fuckery on live TV. 

Frank Castle is a Marine. We all know this. Comic canon tells us that one of the people who inspired him to join the military that he looked up to was Captain Goddamn America. 

I want season 2 of the Punisher being Frank finding out about this sack of garbage parading around in his Aryan Nation/Neo Nazi version of a Captain America costume. I want him to get as understandably fucking angry as he should and show up at David Lieberman’s house in the murdervan shouting whatever Punisher equivalent of “Get in, loser, we’re going shopping” it takes to get him in the van and on board with this. 

TO CLARIFY, I don’t want us to get the comic book costume from that particular run (Admittedly it would fill me with utter glee to have Jon Bernthal shoved into that particular monstrosity but that’s mostly for my own joy and no one else’s) but I do want The Punisher skull spray painted over a shield and for Frank to light these people up. Aggressively. You can see the message I want to send here.

Added bonus; We get at least half a season’s worth of road trip shenanigans with David and Frank. Possibly some great stuff with Karen too. 

The second half I’d really like Frank to be dealing with something comparatively low-level. Maybe Barracuda or another member of the Serpent Squad. Luke Cage had Cottonmouth and Diamondback already, so there’s a good tie-in to get him interacting with other Netflix characters that aren’t Daredevil, and it sets up a future group problem if they so choose. Also gives Claire and Curtis a chance to meet and have a “why do our people keep doing stupid shit to get themselves hurt?” talk over coffee. Trish, Karen, Misty and Colleen can come too. 

Season 3 can end with that final scene we’ve been waiting for all season, where we’re following a nurse into Russo’s room, it slow pans over to his face still covered in gauze, still in the coma. She checks some things, leaves, the heart rate starts slowly ratcheting up and his eyes open. Cut to black. 

........y’know what, while I’m here, I’m gonna postulate for season 3 too but shorter than the last bit. 

Season 3 I want to be the Ma Gnucci storyline. Badass, competent, interesting female villain that beats Frank trying to kill her twice, and one time he used goddamn POLAR BEARS TO TRY IT AND FAILED. GIVE ME ALL OF THIS FOR A SEASON. 

About halfway through the season we get the start of this malicious cat and mouse thing going on, and we find out someone with a LOT of particularly useful information regarding Frank Castle has been working with the Gnucci family. You can guess where this is going. Last half is the start of Jigsaw, leaving us with a good but frustrating (THAT’S IT?! WAIT NO WE NEED TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS NEXT!!) finale and a GREAT jumping off place for season 4. 

So that’s my hopes. Thoughts?

Rosario Dawson just dropped that Jon Bernthal is coming back as the Punisher and I have a new item for my Moon Knight Season 2 wishlist.

This is, of course, based on my introduction to the Punisher being the old 90s Spider-Man cartoon where the Punisher shows up to make Peter's life more complicated during the mutagenic storyline. And it's like the writers all sat down and went "Okay, what's the worst thing we can do to Peter right now?" "Bring in Frank Castle." "That's brilliant."

This is what the Punisher should be, the guy the writers bring in to just complicate the shit out of the problems.

And at the beginning of season 2, Jake is trying to be a superhero while hiding from Steven and Marc and there's this huge supernatural problem so the worst thing that can happen is all of a sudden the fucking Punisher shows up in London to shoot all his leads and recognize him as "that dude who wandered off post in a fugue state back in Iraq."

And his only confidante in superhero matters, Khonshu, likes the Punisher's style because while I'm not big on bloodthirsty asshole 2006 Khonshu I do love the idea he has a soft spot for Frank Castle. "You could be more like him, you know." "Say that again and I just going to push Steven to the front and you can talk to him."

Just gonna take that on the level of shipping wishlist: I still ship Bruce (Wayne) x John and idek, I’d really like someone to build it with, same goes with Loki. Honestly, I miss the friendships I used to have with John like Zee, Frank Castle, and Jessica Jones. I miss his magic dad, Phantom Stranger. So I don’t know. Honestly, the ships I’m not looking for are usually the ones that come to me incidentally are the ones that have become the most meaningful. The ones that I’m trying to chase are less likely to stick for one reason or the other. Either the mun goes MIA or the chemistry doesn’t click. idek. I never force anything and there have been plenty that didn’t know I wanted to ship or flat out implied that it wasn’t going to happen and I was fine with that, you know?
