Is there anything particular/specific from extra-canonical Gravity Falls tie-in media (Journal 3, Lost Legends, Book of Bill, Legend of the Gnome Gemulets, etc.) that you personally don't regard as canon yourself, or at the very least, wouldn't really mind seeing retconned by future tie-ins/follow-ups? Granted, even though the canon status of many of these tie-ins stands on shaky "take-it-or-leave-it" ground, I do wonder how much of their content would be either adopted, adapted, or straight-up retconned by a hypothetical sequel series if that were to ever someday be, and just how much fans would care/react to the adoption/rejection of such.

Should stress, I don't hate the concept of a Mabel dimension and all the Mabels we see in it. Heck, I just organized the Month of May-bel and many of the artists in it drew art from DDI specifically, as it was one of the week's themes! I love the story with all my heart. My problem lies with what the overall point of the story ended up being...

MABEL REDEMPTION!

It's a bit of an open secret that I despise how this was handled. This was back in 2018 when Mabel hate was really at its worst thanks to that one now deleted video and other crap like Jello's So this is GF video. Lost Legends was a chance to fix that and shut the Mabel haters up and give us a story that showed she is a good character and while flawed, not a horrible person. But I feel like instead of having that well written and planned resolution to this issue, Mabel just got thrown into a messy redemption tale that doesn't even make sense and just adds fuel to certain Mabel hater arguments.

This part especially angers me to this day...

I spent ages defending Mabel and trying to make it clear she was not the cause of Weirdmageddon and just a pawn in Bill's game and an unsuspecting one too, as she was the only Pines family member who did not willingly make a deal with Bill, knowing it was him. And yet here she is being made to take the blame and the one that gets all the hate. It bugged me then and still in a lot of ways does. I literally called Alex Hirsch out on it in the interview given I had always said I would if I ever had the chance to talk to him about it.

To Alex's credit, his answer was pretty good and from what I heard from Kiki-Kit too (back when I knew her for this and not for defaulting on commissions), this story was being worked on in the Summer of 2017, so back before even the viral hate video on Mabel was released. So, this was always more something Alex himself planned on making, rather than addressing a fan complaint. He doesn't even look at them which TBH, probably is a good idea for not just Mabel, lmao ;)

I mean, I cared more about this stuff when I was younger and more committed to the Mabel defense stuff. And while I still am now, I also nowadays don't really care too much about it like I used to then. Back then I'd be ready to throw hands with anyone hating on Mabel in the comments section and argue with them till they hit block. But these days I sorta just ignore posts about Mabel debating given it's not worth it. It's 2025, if fans still hate her, they're not being changed by me saying anything. I just make my views on it clear when I can and defend them as such. I'm not in the mood anymore to fight a war of words in a Reddit comments section IG reel...and not just cause I nowadays despise using Reddit and only just tolerate Instagram.

Thankfully most fans nowadays love Mabel again and many of those haters who made the problem worse have moved on. The popularity spike GF had brought in many new fans who understand Mabel better and are more committed to the battle. So, I sorta feel like a retired war vet when it comes to the Mabel debate, watching a new generation fighting to defend her. Maybe a stretch of an analogy there, but I'm glad about it honestly, as we sorta won in the end, but it still sucks all this happened and the way it was handled in Lost Legends.

If I was Alex, I would rewrite the story to have Mabel learn this a different way. Maybe through a Ford adventure and in turn, have Ford have a sort of redemption arc too and him and Mabel in a way make amends after the events of Weirdmageddon. I see a lot of fans debate that and I would've loved to see the two of them bond and work it out. I mean, many fans even at the time thought DDI would be a Ford and Mabel bonding story from a tweet Alex made in 2018 that seemed to hint that, myself included.

Vailskibum even made a video about it. Our hopes were high and in the end, that wasn't the case. Again, like I said, I love Don't Dimension It's concept with the Mabel dimension. I just dislike how Alex addressed Mabel's overall character flaw and how he went about fixing it.

It was too harsh and too much. And especially making her take the blame for Weirdmageddon was wrong IMO.

I've debated a lot about if I regard DDI as canon. I mean, it all but is, given Dipper gets his journal in it that he references in Journal 3, which is canon. So, IMO, the story more or less is canon. But as for the handling over her redemption arc, I don't as much see that as canon. Plus, as one code in the book says, LL is canonish, so it's not officially canon but also isn't either.

It's funny. I like Roadside Attraction, the most hated Gravity Falls episode, but I don't as much like Don't Dimension It, one of the most beloved Lost Legends stories. Weird how that that is, huh?

But I can also dislike it while still enjoying the good in it. And DDI, minus the Mabel redemption crap, is a solid story and a lovely technically final adventure that Mabel had that Summer.

i adopted this habit from fhr into other ifs i play, but it's so interesting to me to think about how a differently gendered ro might affect an mc's relationship with them. there are the obvious ones like sexuality changing the compatibility of a relationship, but there's also the more subtle ones that poke around a character's preconceptions around gender. for my sidesteps, cyrus is largely the same regardless of ortega or mortums gender (which is interesting to explore in its own right!). while cecilia's relationship with ortega wouldn't change if she had julia, ace wouldn't have dated mirlene, which would've led to her experience in ace being a lot more bearable as she wouldn't have to question her sexuality the whole time she hung out with mortum. she might even start Enjoying being in ace to hang out with mortum more, which is a ceci first. i also think the first time she meets mirlene, she's going to have a heart attack realizing she's kinda hot. which is Not the time to be having that realization ever at all. (putting the rest under the cut because it gets long)

compared to the relatively minor adjustments of cecilia and cyrus, caine and chance's relationship to their ros will look Vastly different depending on gender. caine doesn't have a relationship with mortum outside of business partners, and that's unlikely to change with genders. Ortega on the other hand. with ricardo, caine has been harboring a crush on him since their sidestep days, but was completely oblivious to it up until retribution. in a universe with julia though, he's been flirting with her since his sidestep days and openly considers her his girlfriend. while they're very close to ortega in both routes, the way they treat the two is Night and Fucking Day. he's dry, blunt, and generally touch averse with ricardo. julia???? they're so lovesick it hurts. if they're not holding hands right now he's going to implode in a million pieces. pecks whenever possible. he's sleeping on her lap. julia has a big dog basically. this difference in attitude comes from One place: ✨heteronormativity✨. caine's always been taught that straight was the default and never had good reason to really question it. throw in ortega's need to be seen as straight and ricardo never stood a chance. caine has always been bad at picking up hints, especially when deprived of his telepathy, but it's easier to recognize julia's flirting because he's already operating under the idea that julia is a straight heartbreaker. ric doesn't have that. any attempts at flirting is flying directly under the radar. sorry ricky.

as for the difference in behaviour, that happens because of what caine thinks is appropriate to express in a romantic vs platonic relationship. when they're close to somebody, they will get More stubborn and argumentative, because they're comfortable voicing their opinions instead of shrugging and going with whatever. ortega was the first one to breach his walls enough to coax this out of him, so they tend to get it the worst. that said, caine's got the vague sense that since julia is their girlfriend, they should be nicer to her, which is why the impulse to be stubborn is tamped down. he also gets clingy with julia because he's fully in control of that sort of touch and it does not occur to him that he could just. do all of that shit with his friends. he'd be casually initiating physical affection a lot more if he realized that was fine and normal to do with friends actually.

(and just for funsies because im Always thinking about him, in a butch chen au, i like to think caine would figure out they weren't cis a lot sooner than in canon. not because he got pushed to do any real introspection, but because of that thing that sometimes happens where somebody of a certain sexuality gets attracted to another person with an "incompatible gender" that turns out to be an egg. chen gets a crush on caine and caine goes like "now hold on a second. mr chen the lesbian should not be having a crush on a man. what's going awn here." it's either that or chen clocks them as nonbinary and caine picks up on that suspicion. both are very in character for caine.)

chance is definitely the most complicated when it comes to this though. with julia, she's bitter and betrayed and has her as his rival. she needs to burn down every stupid thing julia thought she could build with him. with ricardo there's just... none of that. nothing at all even. she is unnervingly detached to things. when chance has julia, yeah he's quiet, but you can tell there's something bubbling under the surface, even if that something is barely contained rage. chance with ricardo is just. quiet. resigned. his rival is replaced with her current self, and she's not nearly as prickly or caustic as he was back in her sidestep days. it's a real point of concern for ricardo, he doesn't know what to do about the fact chance is a ghost now. like caine, this had a lot to do with ortegas sexuality, but it was because of chance's expectations of ortega rather than an expectation of sexuality. chance flirted with both ortega's back in the day, but it was a different experience depending on their gender. flirting was wonderful with julia. to put it simply, she felt special. she was the first woman julia ever dated, and the fact julia was willing to potentially put her reputation on the line for him left him giddy every time she thought about it. sure, julia had a string of boyfriends and kept up the player act, but he was the one she would go back to at the end of the day. it was that belief that she meant something to julia that made her believe the promise they would always have eachothers back, and made it hurt all the more when she broke it. ricardo was an Entirely different story. he was always kissing women, so their fling wasn't anything truly important. a la that one line in the game, "what made you special? nothing at all. just another mouth to kiss." she was convinced he was going to leave her once he got bored, so the fact he really did leave him behind at the farm had no fanfare. there was no betrayal. only confirmation.

now for the part where it gets complicated: chance's past relationship with ortega had a lot of repercussions in the present. like. a Lot of them. as in, chance's relationship with the different genders of mortum is directly affected by the gender of ortega. the relationship table goes:

mirlene w julia: chance feels "safe" enough to date mirlene, as eden is a man and thus he wouldn't fall into the same trap as last time. she couldn't help comparing mirlene to julia at the start, and she was always on guard and very flighty. i think mirlene picked up on this despite chance's efforts to hide it, but she couldn't really put a finger on the cause. the fact she noticed how tense he was, though, alongside mirlenes general respect for boundaries lead to such a gentle experience chance couldn't help but relax. he's fully aware she's fallen for the trap again, but he can't bring himself to cut it off. she's waiting for the entire thing to explode again.

mirlene w ricardo: mirlene met eden relatively early into chance getting a foothold on eden's personality. unlike with julia, where chance is strong-willed enough to just inject her own personality into him, eden needed a push to prevent him from becoming a wallflower. mirlene's flirting drew out the chance from the sidestep days, the one that was stubborn and laughing and teasing. it was a surprisingly welcome adjustment, and it made him prefer being eden over being chance. she'll always be grateful to mirlene for dragging her out of her apathy.

merle w julia: No flirting. none. nada. she refuses. he is perfectly fine being friends with him. she is Not pining, he is Not staring wistfully at his hands from across the room or laughing a little too hard at the jokes with a scotch in hand. and even if she was doing all of that, it doesn't matter because they're friends and He's Not Pining. this scenario is the only circumstance where chance actually wants to reveal the truth to mortum. not because she's wondered if he'd ever want her in her own body though. obviously not. (never tell her about lover's triptych, he'd sink julias bike if he found out she flirted with merle. THIS ISN'T JEALOUSY GUYS IT'S ANGER ON BEHALF OF A FRIEND)

merle w ricardo: he was slightly startled at merles initial attempts at flirting with eden, but wasn't against it. like with mirlene, merle helped coax out chance's old personality. the biggest difference was that chance was a bit more wary about letting loose since she wasn't sure how to act as a man dating another man. this got remedied pretty quickly as merle began showing off his less glamorous sides. it was comfortable calling his boyfriend a dork.

anyway. aside from being an excuse to talk about my sidesteps and their ros, this was my long winded essay on how exploring gender is an incredibly interesting way to gain an understanding of a characters mindset . 👍

what are some of your favorite Super Paper Mario headcanons?

I wasn't sure how specific you'd want those to be but I tried to think of a few that I personally enjoy/tend to apply myself!Includes spoilers.

Some general headcanons:

SPM takes longer than than a day/few days (maybe about a month or two)

Flipping into 3D is a nauseating experience and it takes time to fully adjust to it (especially for Mario, he never really managed to get over it).

Pure Hearts emit a comforting aura, a sense of warmth and calm, while the Chaos Heart feels like a thousand voices are whispering in your ear.

Some character specific headcanons:

Mario finds himself confused and lost more than he ever did in his life during this adventure. His usual confidence and grounded attitude are shaky because almost everything in these other worlds makes no sense to him, which is rather frustrating, especially at the beginning of his journey where he's completely surrounded by strangers and forced into the hero role. (Seriously, Mario couldn't even go home if he wanted to because he's stuck not on an island but between dimentions where he was TELEPORTED IN. There isn't really a door that leads to the Mushroom Kingdom.)

Peach's parasol is hardened by steel and enhanced by magic with a sharp tip at the end. She changed her heels to something more comfortable on the Flipside and put her hair up so it doesn't get in the way during travel and unavoidable combat.

Bowser takes his 'marriage' very seriously. He cares more about Peach than Mario in the team so when she's trouble he'll dash to assist her (he can run when he really wants to huh), but if the red plumber's in trouble he'll pretend to not see it or brush it off. (unless his lovely wife nags him about it).

Luigi, after landing is the Underwhere, finds lots of stuff in his pockets that he doesn't remember squirreling away like firecrackers, bolts and a small screwdriver. He is in fact very confused.

Count Bleck isn't very emotional. Most of the time he only has one, sad and dull expression. Any type of larger emotion showing through means that you've REALLY pushed it to the extreme.

The minions know the kind person that the Count is deep at heart so they're not put off by his frown, except for Mr.L. A default reaction that the brainwashed soldiers get as a 'bonus' from Nastasia is the highest respect for the Count, yes, but also fear of him. The fear ensures that they are most obedient but it's more of a failsafe than anything. You can imagine how it looks when Mr.L, an exploding and tempered personality, runs around the castle causing havoc like a brat and then suddenly just FREEZES on the spot at the sight of Bleck.

On the topic of the quirks of Nastasias ability, usually a person only needs to be brainwashed once. HOWEVER due to a certain someone who likes to provoke the man in green and his subconscious she is required to sometimes strengthen the control on Mr.L as she doesn't trust the magician with keeping his mouth shut. At one point she directly orders L to actively stay away from the jester, even forcing him to follow her around when she works.

Dimentios poncho and hat are covered in glitter and his mask is porcelain-esque, also the idea of him being the "son of the magician". I just think this theory is quite fitting and I like the thought of him being actually 3000 years old. He's not very popular at the castle but everyone has a silent agreement to not bother him. He however bothers everyone and likes to stare. When he's intrigued he tends to tilt his head slightly.

Mimi enjoys designing clothes and tries to give fashion advice to her teammates (to absolutely no avail because who cares we're literally ending the world, we're evil and depressed blehhhh). She and Dimentio have an 'annoying sibling' dynamic and she wouldn't hold back against him in battle at all for all the times he's messed with her. She also enjoys filing her nails to be super sharp.

Nastasia is a very strict person who takes her duties seriously but she does have a side for fun. You just need to search for it a little.

O'Chunks likes to spar with Mr.L in his free time. Mr.L is in general one of the few people he can do this with since Mimi says that 'she doesn't want to ruin her dress over such a stupid thing' and Dimentio always finds an excuse or simply dissapears.

Post SPM headcanons:

There is little conflict with the neighbouring kingdoms after the void incident. Peach, Mario and Luigi use that free time to have fun and just relax after everything that happened. They need eachothers support for the time being.

'Team Bleck' still meets up often after everything and hangs out. They don't necessarily talk about the Count but it's nice knowing that there are other people who understand what you're feeling right now. *They've been trying to have a full group reunion with Luigi included for some time now. Things are a bit awkward among them but it's still nice when he agrees to come along.

Luigi inherits some of Dimentios mannerisms which shine through from time to time such as laughing patterns, hand gestures and a rather malicious looking grin... A bit more unrelated and physical change is that his hair tends to turn white when he's around strong sources of power. (Dream Stone and Dark Star levels kind of powerful ykyk maybe Super Star as well or stardust in general cause star child origins) and the eyes somewhat darken.

He's also never really informed about the specifics of his Mr.L and Super Dimentio arc. Mario doesn't really want to burden his brother with something that was in the past and not a necessary in his eyes knowledge since it wasn't truly him.

The Chaos Heart isn't completely gone. It rests, slowly regaining power within it's host, accumulating all the scattered fragments like puzzle pieces. Try all you want but you can never fully get rid of chaos, it's an inescapable force.

I might gather up some more another time but I'd say that's it for now! You might've already heard some of these before but I hope it was at least a good read.

im not going to lie i have zero kunichuu thoughts just in like, general, but this is one the less disastrous results of fake dating i think. there's no way kunikida would agree to date even fake date someone for shits and giggles, so naturally: on a case. this goes less disastrously because chuuya is good at this, good at acting natural while keeping an eye out. kunikida is....less so, but chuuya inspires less anger in him, i guess? which is not to say they don't argue; they do, it's just less explosive and doesn't carry on as long because chuuya isn't willing to drag it out for longer than necessary and compromises on things as he sees fit. (he really is an angry 15yo around dazai....)

they look highly odd to anyone who does know them, what with kunikida looking so stiff and chuuya's smiles, or expressions in general, being very strained, but they do a....passable job? there are a surprising amount of things they can relate to, too—copious amounts of paperwork (listen, chuuya is a paperwork guy. you expect me to believe he's constantly at the scene?), wrangling their coworkers and subordinates into order they should get to complain about dazai in a weirdly fond way for a few minutes and dazai, listening over the earpiece, should feel very, very strange about it and such.

all in all it's not a horrible experience and kunikida vows he's never doing that ever again. chuuya just shrugs and goes well. part of the job i guess.

2. nikolai + dazai

oh my god the CHAOS DEMONS. okay this would probably be either the best or worst ever to fake date depending on who you ask. they're both highly enthusiastic about everything they're doing—dates, PDA in the office or whatever just to annoy kunikida and sigma, all of that. they're rather loud and giggly and are smart enough to not be too over the top with it, because then it would look fake and that is not what they're aiming for, but if given the choice, they'd definitely throw loud and exaggerated declarations of love at each other. you know. it's even worse because of dazai being in love with everyone forever and juggling like three different situationships at once. atsushi regularly wonders if he should be investing in headache medicine or something.

at the same time they're basically safe to let out in public, i think! of course they're....questionable, as usual, but not too crazy. in general they're likely to hold hands and all of that. i also think they'd make out where anyone else likely to shriek and wish death upon them would see (so usually kunikida or sigma. sigma learns to just walk out after a few days though.) importantly ranpo is extremely entertained by all of this.

i don't even know how it ends. in my head they continue doing this forever because it's so entertaining.

3. ayatsuji + tsujimura

SOUTSUJI RAHHH [they drag me screaming into the woods]

okay here's the thing. i don't think literally anything would change about them if they fake-dated.

they bicker and banter and argue the same as they always do, and it passes because nobody can figure out besides the real reason why tsujimura chooses to keep ayatsuji around when he so clearly gets on her nerves yet at the same time is different around him in a good way. ayatsuji, for his part. i mean. gestures. he sucks at hiding how fond he is of tsujimura regardless of what that love means to him.

i guess the only different thing would be an attempt at physical affection but this fails miserably because ayatsuji would rather chop off his own arm than act like he likes tsujimura in any capacity and tsujimura is not a very physical affection person to begin with, or at least, she's not used to it with ayatsuji. they give this up and default to their status quo: ayatsuji needling at tsujimura and enjoying this greatly while tsujimura snipes back. it works well enough to convince most people which is the intended goal here.

(if you asked me why they're doing this i'd tell you it's either a casefic or some kind of stupid bet. who knows.)

they're both so relieved to finally end their fake relationship. i do think that no matter what they feel for each other they're most comfortable with what they normally do, so life carries on and ango wonders if he should be trying to tell tsujimura that as disastrous as it was it passed for a reason but neither of them really seem to care, so he decides, oh what the hell. he's not going to touch that.

therefore soutsuji just end up doing their own thing forever. and i love that for them. gaiden adaptation when....

rotating this wild life pearl episode so hard in my brain I can't sleep. Disclaimer I've only seen pearls perspective, Lizzie's perspective which has nothing to do with this, and a little of Gem's so this is based on that information pretty much as well as looking at other people's posts.

It's her falling back into old double life patterns of deciding if people are going to see her one way she won't change their minds she'll just play into it.

It's Scott being so worried about what she'll do to other people when he leaves her alone but the reality is the opposite; she's extremely friendly to others after being left alone, and frustrated with him, that she decides to let Skizz and Mumbo try and kill him again.

Though, because Scott noticed the trap, we won't know if Pearl would have actually gone through with it. She does lie about knowing about it, though, so she probably would have. Though it's interesting how she frames it in her aside; saying 'I have no reason to go against Scott this season' without mentioning her other teammates. Would she have let Scott die but not Impulse or Cleo? She says she's just doing it for fun but like, betrayal is not something she just does for fun, loyal is generally her default when it comes to her day one teams.

Though, I would say she has a reason to go against Scott specifically. I mean, he completely prioritizes Gem's(not in his team) feelings over Pearl's(on his team???) when it comes to any disagreement between the two. This is the third session in a row he's brought up Pearl provoking other players despite Gem being the only one she's earned a bad reputation with, and also not really doing much of anything to provoke Gem's rage in the first place. Though I don't think it really matters. He's still siding with Pearl's enemy (should be their enemy because they're a team but no) over her, which if it was actually a lot of people I would kinda understand but it's just. One. Person. To me he just seems to really fear Gem. He fears Gem more than he loves Pearl at least it seems to me.

Though going back to the start, her saying really she should give Gem a reason to hate her. She doesn't end up going through with that this time around but considering how hesitant she was to apologize I feel like it'll be sticking around.

At least Cleo and Impulse are backing her up, for now, and Gem's attempt at manipulation hasn't really led anything much her way yet.

What hair styles do you have in mid when you think of the Batfam? Their hair of course changes depending on the years and who draws them, but there's like a certain default style that each person typically gets drawn in. What is yours?

Despite being a very visual person, I usually don't get super fixated on how the character looks while I'm writing them. Is that odd? I'm not sure. There's a few exceptions (Lex in ASOH, Clark in bloodletting, etc) but usually I describe the outlines of what I want readers to notice, and let them fill in the stuff that isn't super important to my visualization.

But in general?

I like Dick's hair longer and slightly wavy. I think it's stupid he doesn't wear a helmet and has it out, especially long enough to grab a handful, but it's pretty. I get it. It's dark and has lots of layers.

Bruce's hair is just at the edge of what's acceptably long enough to be gelled back. Dark, but not quite as dark as Dick's hair. Thick, and he starts going grey at the temples around his mid to late thirties.

Tim -- anything that isn't a buzzcut, tbh. Bald Tim traumatized me. I think he has slightly lighter hair than the other Robins -- more of a dark brown. Gets a little red in the summer.

Jason, I like with more of a tapered fade with it longer on top to highlight his white streak. It's a little curly if he doesn't style/cut it.

Damian -- I don't have an opinion, though sometimes people draw him with really weird short hair to kind of make him seem childish on purpose? I think he should have Talia's hair tbh.

Cass, hot take -- it should either be really short so she can put it up under her cowl, or long enough to braid back. Having it in the middle and layered just means it's harder to keep manageable. (Before anyone jumps in to ask why I don't have the same problem for Dick, he refuses to wear anything on his head and has clearly accepted the risk of getting yanked around by his hair. Cass is smarter than that lol)

Steph -- same as Cass, I like her hair blonde but it's also very bright and recognizable which is a problem I have with Kate's hair too. If the hair is part of the costume and it's unusual, that's terrible for your secret identity. And if it's down all the time, it's sweaty and in your face. As someone who braids her hair back in the gym frequently, once it hits a certain length you really have to do something.

Duke -- I really love all of the various hairstyles he's had, but same issue as Cass arises. It's gotta fit under the cowl.

Bonus: Alfred. I love Jeremy Irons' version, I can't lie. His full head of hair but grey worked really well. Bald/thinning hair Alfred is a canon staple, don't get me wrong. But it gives him even more elegance/regality in my mind, you know? I love young michael caine as an inspo for him, those blonde curls were something else.

K-Pop Demon Slayers and growing up as a Queer Christian

Before I start, I want to acknowlegde that I have no idea if this is what the creators of the movie were going for, but this is what I took away from the movie and why it really resonated for me

I'm going to be talking about a lot of later scenes, so if you click the read more, you will be getting spoilers.

From the very beginning, we're shown that Rumi has been taught to hide who (and what) she is, which sets up the metaphor for queerness in general and being in the closet. Rumi doesn't go to the bathhouse because then her friends would see her patterns mirrors the experience of those who experience same sex attraction being in bathhouses, changing rooms, etc. If I'm never in a situation where my true self will show, then its easier to hide.

Despite the setup, I didn't actually notice the metaphor until the scene at the tree with Celine and Rumi.

Rumi shows up at the tree, clearly in need of help. clearly in need of reassurance and love. and what she receives instead is Celine telling her to cover up what, who she is in order to fix it.

Now this scene mirrors a 'well-meaning' adult telling a queer youth to stay in the closet. It'll be safer, you won't lose any friends, etc etc.

I relate to Rumi in this scene for a very different reason. I'm asexual, probably also on the aromantic spectrum as well, and I didn't realize that I was ace until my senior year of highschool. I also grew up Christian, going to a Baptist church every Sunday morning and evening and most Wednesday nights. The way homophobia and queerphobia in general is hammered into you as a Christian is so hard to describe. So when I realized that I was ace, I at first thought it wasn't a big deal. I mean, no one had noticed until that point, so I can just keep pretending, right? I can just keep covering up my patterns, right?

And then I went to college. Look, my highschool friends were all great and very accepting. But theres something about being in a different location, being surrounded by different accepting people that can sometimes help you realize things.

So, like Rumi interacting with Jinu helped her realize that being a demon wasn't her fault and also didn't make her (or Jinu) bad by default, being around different queer people helped me realize that I had nothing to be ashamed of.

Now during college, when I returned home for the summer and winter breaks, I would continue to go to church to keep up appearances and the make my family happy. And I slowly started realizing that these people I had grown up with my whole life would never accept me that way I really am.

The moment I actually had that realization was when my pastor was giving a sermon during Pride Month about "the real meaning of the rainbow". He and his wife were even wearing shirts with a rainbow and the title of his sermon on them. Thats the first time I vividly had the thought of "these people don't know the real me, and if they did they would hate me." Rumors had similar thoughts during the writing of Takedown. I mean her voice always breaks after saying the word hatred. Her friends didn’t know it but they wrote a song that confirmed her worst fears.

Rumi has a similar realization about Celine here in the tree scene, asking Celine "why can't you look at me? Why couldn't you love me?". And when Celine says she does, Rumi responds with "all of me". Because if you really love someone, you wouldn't tell them to cover up and hide who they are. Its very subtle, but Celine wouldn't even touch Rumi in this scene. How can you claim to love someone if you can't even touch them??? Celine couldn’t even look at her!!!

I did recently come out to my family and people in my former church via a facebook post, and my pastors comments where focused on the churchs image, and my dads text responses were grateful I was living a "chaste lifestyle". When I asked my mom if she had seen the post during a phone call, she said she had but "you know I don't approve of that".

People will claim to love you while trying to tell you to hide who you are. Cover up your patterns. Wear turtlenecks. Don't go to the bathhouse. As long as the lie is believeable. As long as you don't harm the public image. As long as your faults and fears remain unseen.

But no, there's no "as long as". I'm glad the movie ends on a happy note, because the right people will accept you. My friends don't accept me "as long as x". They just accept me. You may have answered this already but, what VTM clans would you asign to the dracula polycule?

Ohh, great question! Let's see!

I think for the sake of a more thorough analysis, I'm actually going to ignore VtM canon, since Dracula actually is a canon character who encouraged Bram Stoker to write a fictionalised version of his adventures. He has a signed first edition copy that Beckett sees. It's kinda hilarious.

In VtM canon, he's the 5th generation childe of Lambach Ruthven and has a host of disciplines at very high levels (seriously - Animalism 6, Auspex 5, Celerity 4, Dominate 5, Fortitude 5, Koldunic Sorcery 5 (with Earth, Fire, and Spirit all at 5), Potence 5, Protean 4, and Vicissitude 5). Hilariously, this means he actually doesn't have Mist Form, since that's Protean 5. Lucy and Mina are/were Tzimisce as well (Lucy dies, Mina survives to modern nights), Renfield was a ghoul. But let's adapt straight from the novel instead!

Dracula: I mean, obviously he's still Tzimisce, the clan is literally based on him. If we're just going off the novel, I see him more as Old Clan, the archetypal Voivode (also literally Voivode, that was Vlad Țepeș' literal title, he was Voivode of Wallachia - hilariously, he had no association with Transylvania other than being born in Sighișoara up until Stoker's book). He has the soil association, he clearly has Auspex and Animalism, and I feel he uses Dominate a fair bit, especially in the context of memory erasure, luring Lucy, et cetera. He also shows clear signs of Protean (Shape of the Beast bat and wolf forms, Mist Form), but, notably, not Vicissitude proper, and some alternate magical abilities, especially weather/fog manipulation, which can tie in with Koldunic sorcery, especially Way of Wind. So, a straight adaptation would be Old Clan Tzimisce with Koldunic sorcery and Protean. He also has the Folkloric Bane flaw where he takes agg damage from running water, and we'll ignore the sunlight thing XD;;

Jonathan: If we're directly adapting from the novel, then Dracula is the one who Embraces Jonathan, Mina, and Lucy. By default, that makes them all Tzimisce. Using my homebrew because I have no shame, his bane and connection to Home would be to Mina (yeah, he was having a rough time until their reunion). I do think Tzimisce could work well for him, he's a fairly fluid character and exemplifies Change more than any other character in the novel. Even if he was Embraced as technically Old Clan, I like the idea of spontaneous emergence of Vicissitude - and lo, a sudden change of hair colour!

Mina: Also Tzimisce; again, it's a fairly good fit. She and Jonathan share a mutual blood bond, too. Her Home is Jonathan, but she also has a secondary connection to trains and railways, and can avoid the aggravated Willpower damage by riding the rails. She would fit it well as well; like Jonathan, she's a fluid, adaptable character.

Lucy: Poor, poor Lucy! Definitely Embraced as Tzimisce, definitely not a great fit. I feel she'd be a much more natural fit for Toreador, with a love for beauty and a strong connection to humanity and people. She just wants to spend time with her coterie ;_;

Jack: Okay, two options here. One is Malkavian, often found in mental health settings - I'm thinking of Richard Dunham here specifically, but also Netchurch (even if the latter is more focused on physiology). He'd have a more subtle derangement, I think - possible OCD, definitely depression. The other option is Tremere, and I think that might be the better fit. He likes an Experiment. He would have so much fun with Thaumaturgy :D (Slightly terrified :D !)

Arthur: Man's one of the few valid Ventrue. Nobility? Check. Money? Check. He's quite aware of his privilege and considers it an honour and a duty to look after his coterie, even if he recognises that, lbr, Mina is really the one running the show. Also has out-of-clan Animalism so he can chat to his dogs, thanks to…

Quincey: Gangrel! Like yes he is absolutely playing up the Cowboy Thing to make Lucy smile so that could be a Toreador thing, but he does genuinely still fit it even after her death. He has an understanding with horses and bats, and bats do not act like that tyvm.

Van Helsing: He's Jack's sire (therefore Tremere) and Jack has never, ever gotten over the brief blood bond they shared. They have. A dynamic :D (No genuinely the sire-childe thing actually works really well here for their simultaneous familial and psychosexual relationship.)

Renfield: If we're going straight canon, he's a ghoul. If we actually give him a clan, there are also two possible options here! One is Malkavian - he's definitely got a derangement or two. The other, of course, is Nagaraja, although I'm actually feeling Malkavian here moreso than Nagaraja. He doesn't need to eat flesh, he just… has that fixation with it. Either way, I feel he has a blood bond to Dracula. Like that bit is 100% whether he's a ghoul or a Cainite. Hashtag Renfield deserves better!

What do you call it when the narrative of the story is a metaphor for real life attitudes about that story? "Allegory" is a bit too general. It's like how the first Avengers movie was about trying to make characters from different backgrounds come together when the movie itself was facing this uncertainty about bringing together characters from different genres. That kind of thing.

Korra has been a really controversial character. A lot of it is conservative/fascist culture war BS, but her story didn't get the same magic as The Last Airbender either, because it didn't have all the same writers, it was originally supposed to be just one season, Nickelodeon kept mismanaging it, etc. Either way, Korra has been pretty maligned. And it doesn't help that her job is to basically protect a world in the nuclear era. (Nuclear = Spirit Vine Energy.) It's a rapidly changing post-industrial world of superpowers armed to the teeth.

I stand firm that the four nations did this, not Korra. They whipped out their spirit cannons on each other for whatever ideological or economic reasons they had and blasted holes in the fabric between realities, and then blamed Korra for not stopping them. Because to be clear, just because the people blame the avatar, doesn't mean the avatar did it. In fact, Korra was blamed and scapegoated for so much already during her own series. This isn't new. She's a female authority figure in an age where journalism just took off. This is not new for her.

Aang went through something similar. He feels guilty for not being there when the world needed him, because he ran away and got frozen in the iceberg. Not too many characters rub it in his face, and it's mostly his own self-consciousness, but this feeling of blame and guilt for not protecting the world better is part of being the avatar.

And let's say Korra did cause or put into motion whatever did destroy the world. She's in good company. Roku "caused" the genocide of the Air Nation by not acting against Sozin sooner. Wan basically started the human world, so whatever war the next avatar dealt with was on him by default. There are other examples I don't care to look up, but it's a canon fact: every Avatar cleans up the mess that the last Avatar left. It's how the Avatar cycle works.

As mentioned here, the only other iterations that fit this that Pyrrha has are in the books Soul/cali/bur: Soul in the Blade, of which I do not own nor can I read due to not knowing Japanese, and Queen's Blade/Queen's Gate, which is... well. An ecchi visual combat series. Not exactly anything to change as far as I know, besides throwing her into that anime girl art style and teetering on the line of fully inappropriate or not xd. So, by default, I'm sticking to her original.

Nope! I just knew I reeeeeally loved her, wanted to hold her hand and play knight for her- whatever it was 11 year old me was doing haha. Glad I found out at some point!

Honestly, it's really hard to pick a line considering I just love Pyrrha's voice so much. [Side-note that I mainly base stuff off the Japanese voices as opposed to the English VAs, (sorry mrs. bailey)] So rather than pick one, I'm gonna share a video I slapped together of multiple clips where I particularly liked her VA's delivery!

There'a also one voiceline from the Pachislot game specifically that comes to mind! When she tells Ti/ra that she's not her puppet/tool to use, and fights back against her, it just makes me really happy for her!!!! Like, she doesn't ever have the chance to really fight back against Ti/ra in the main game, so even if that is non-canon and if the moment is so quick and brief, seeing her stand up for herself makes me SOOO happy!! It feels super important for her to have that sort of closure in finally basically saying, 'yes, i'm not a tool, i'm not yours to use and never will be again!', yk?? Ok, fine, just because you asked (<- really wanted to do that for a while anyway)!

Since there's so many characters, I'll only do some this round with a little explanation.

Lumine: she's a jazz clarinet! Clarinets have this airy, whimsical sound that just screams "Lumine" to me, but it's specifically in a jazz contest that it reminds me of her. Since I default to Traveler Lumine, I imagine her being a star in ascension in the jazz world, always busking and playing with other famous jazz musicians and befriending them.

Aether: a classical clarinet. I envision the twins mastering the same instrument but going off to build their music careers in different genres. Clarinet in classical music also has an airy quality to it (is the instrument's nature, after all), but the "mood" is noticeably different from a clarinet in jazz music.

Venti: he's pretty much the creator of Mondstadtian music, so he probably knows everything medieval under the sun. But he isn't one to stay complacent either, so along with classical harp, he'd also play the accordion, with is vital for European folk music! I'm sure he's proficient with a ton more instruments.

Diluc: classical violinist. Do you ever look at this man? His face screams "I hate Paganini for what he did to my fingers". Damn near a virtuoso too.

Zhongli: he's not an expert in Liyuese culture, he IS Liyuese culture. I can only give him the erhu. He had all the time in the world to master every piece of traditional music possible and I'm sure he'd be a living legend in the orchestras of today. That being said, he loves trying new things, so I bet he'd dabble on things like jazz erhu too.

Childe: he looks like an electric bass player to me. Now, what genre does he play in is the question... I'm staying with funk for now, but it's subject to change. He does look like he'd dance a lot while playing too.

Ei: she's been disconnected from her people for a LONG while, so I wouldn't be surprised if she only knows gagaku (traditional Japanese music). With that in mind, I'd choose the koto for her.

Itto: unemployment be damned, my boy can play some drums! It's so easy to imagine the whole Arataki gang getting ready to work on a taiko ensemble. But I think Itto would like to try some drum kit too.

Nahida: while the image of her holding a big-ass citar would be hilarious, I think she'd actually be a tabla player. You know what they say about percussion being the backbone of music; Nahida's reliable like that.

Wanderer: Mr. Kabuki over there could have played gagaku in the old days, but I actually think he was more of a singer instead. And, after the Sumeru Archon Quest, he could have picked up traditional forms of Indian singing too. In general, I'll always associate his musicality with theater.

Furina: also a singer. Originally an opera singer, grew tired and overwhelmed by her career and then retired. I think she's a jazz soloist these days, but she doesn't really make a career out of it anymore.

Neuvillette: a very talented cellist, but I think it's more of a pastime for him than an actual career. Otherwise, I can see him as a superb orchestra conductor.

my answer to the first question depends on how hellish it will be to draw a bunch of different outfits for ysme's character portraits. in theory, she would always want to change up her look a little.

recreating another person's likeness with artisanry doesn't really work that well. maybe you could create prosthetics to approximate someone else's appearance, but it tends to look unconvincing on close inspection.

a mixture of both. the white dawn's eye is based loosely on a daisy called the monarch of the veld, but then there are normal flowers that just exist unchanged like the dandelion.

I LOVED the first part of Soulsov! It was gorgeous and I’m already so invested in the story and characters! I was curious about old vs. new magic, especially artisanry. How do people like Ysme and Alma learn artisanry? Why is new magic acceptable in the Mosaic (I think, I may have misremembered), while old pagan magic like Loic’s flowers is forbidden?

thanks a lot. i can't delve into the last question yet, but you can probably infer why from a few conversations in the prelude.

artisanry is the "default" magic system within the mosaic. it's taught in schools, and generally everybody knows the fundamentals.

thank you. dried flowers are just as effective, but there's a particular ritual that allows this, so just popping them into the flower press like normal would render them useless.

You start to notice that something isn't right when you approach the suitcase's corpse, shoving the agent aside by her shoulder. You're expecting to see cracked vials of genetic material, crushed electrical equipment, reams and reams of paper cataloging a genetic sequence, maybe. Instead you see the sleeve of a sweater and a burst tube of leaking toothpaste. There's a few pairs of boxers strewn in the road, little personal odds and ends littered around. 

Oh, this moment makes me feel so bad for her. Sorry for being an asshole, will continue to be a villain and a pain in your ass tho <3

FEEDBACK SECTION Reney is such a cutie tho, she's def my fav from the demo rn. I've been wondering if we don't become a super hero can we not romance her? ALSO ALSO, I love how you did the new fight system. It's so much better than the old one, because it was annoying when you wanted to do something but couldn't because you didn't choose the right genome/parts. This system feels more fair imo. I enjoyed so much the comments about our powers/enhancements. It really makes each character we play as feel unique and totally different. I was surprised how much attention to detail you had when it comes to our powers. Of course, if I'm bored and see a fast food I'd want to look at what people ordered using my supervision. There are many little moments like that which add up and make the game a much better experience. It signals to a player that our choices actually matter and do impact the story, which is something that doesn't happen as often as it should in interactive fiction. Even though this is just the demo, I see a lot of potential. More general life stuff, Good luck with your internship this year. Try not to overwork yourself and remember to take rests. Capitalization errors fixed! And I FINALLY found the discrepancy in my code that was displaying Sullivan's name as the default "R." They are now actually Reid or Reney in text. Thx for bringing my attention to it 🤘🤘

I'm super pleased that the new fight system is working out!! Good to hear that the flavor and variation from the different powers still comes through. I'll be lengthening the first Sullivan fight and changing the optional prologue combat to fit the new form.

day, roots, bling, and favorite from the character design ask game for Deidre? I need to know more about her style!

Sorry this took me a while! It really is the ADHD in me sometimes that dictates when I get to asks. I start thinking about my answer, get distracted, and boom.

day: What does your OC wear on a normal day? Why do they default to those clothes? Do they wear similar things, or do they change it up?

Deidre wears court appropriate fashions for a girl of her standing when a child and teen, as a lady-in-waiting to the princess. I don't have super specific trends in mind for her, but generally, she wears more fancier, more tailored clothes while at court, and if she's back in the Riverlands or away from court, she wears simpler, sometimes looser gowns. She favors a lot of hand embroidery with weirwood leaves on her dresses while away from the captial. She also doesn't like shoes or stockings and would be barefoot all the time if she could get away with it.

roots: Is your OC's look inspired by any specific style of clothing or fashion trend? What are the roots and/or inspiration for their look?

I didn't base her clothing on any historical or technical trends. I don't get super detailed about clothing in my stories with my writing style. I'd say my biggest inspiration for her looks were her face claims, especially her older one, Anabel Scholey. The outfits she wears for her role in Medici I imagine are more like what Deidre wears at court, while the simpler looks in her role in Britannia are the kind of outfits she wears while at home in the Riverlands. The more Celtic/witchy looks from Britannia are for when Deidre enters her Witch Queen at Harrenhal era, later in the Dance of the Dragons.

bling: What jewelry does your OC wear? Does it have any meaning?

Deidre has plenty of jewelry, like any noble lady of her standing. Earrings, rings, dress belts, bracelets, necklaces, she wears all these types of articles at various times, but more so when she is at court in King's Landing. For her simpler state of dress while at home in the Riverlands, she doesn't wear as many pieces, and they tend to be simpler and nature inspired, particularly evocative of weirwoods and the Gods Eye.

Her jewelery of note, at least so far, is her pair of ghost orchid rings. It's a set of two very simple rings, a silver and a gold band, each set with a singular glass stone with ghost orchid blossoms preserved inside. A rare swamp flower that only grows in the neck, it was her mother Elera Reed's favorite. Lyonel had some brought down to Harrenhal as a wedding gift, and when he found out she was having twins, had some of the blossoms preserved into glass beads that he set into two rings for his wife. After she died in childbirth, the two rings went to her daughters, Dyana and Deidre, and after Dyana's death, her ring went to Deidre as well. Deidre always wears those rings as a reminder of her sister and mother. After certain events, she gives her gold band of the set to Criston Cole, which he wears on a chain around his neck secretly for the rest of his life. She eventually gives her silver band of the set, the one that originally belonged to her sister Dyana, to her daughter Dyana Rivers.

arms (favorite): Does your OC have any weapons? What weapons do they carry, and how do they wear them when they're not fighting?

Deidre is not a warrior herself, but she does carry a knife with her from the time she is a young girl. It was gifted to her by her base born aunt, Alys Rivers, right after her twin sister died. A silver blade with a bronze colored hilt, evocative of the colors of a weirwood, it is inscribed with first men runes and used by Deidre for blood letting whenever she makes a small sacrifice to pray to the Old Gods, usually just a cut on her finger, sometimes more.
