"When I heard him hurting you I wanted to kill him" and "they'd be lucky to be anything like you" really are the perfect substitute for the awkward hand holding moment in TSK because a) the characters are older, being awkward about handholding is childish b) it's unique to them, not some overused trope c) it communicates clearly to the audience that they care about each other and finally d) they can still act oblivious even though "I'd kill for you"/"you're the best person I know" are quite the statements to make.

I am furious because this fanfilm had like all of the pining I could ever want in a piece of romance or a film featuring a romance aspect but like it was way more compelling and engaging than a lot of big studio films like,

Me, sobbing hysterically because the Detroit Evolution team took everything good about building a dynamic and shined a bright ass light on it so they ended up with a slow burn by relying on the perspective of the character that was already in love versus starting from scratch, and then wrote present interactions with historical chemistry so all the characters worked well together

Which made it that more obvious when The One That Doesn’t Belong was introduced.

And it WAS JUST GOOD OKAY. JUST... GO WATCH IT EVEN IF YOU HATED D:BH OR DIDNT PLAY IT ITS GOOD ON ITS OWN.
