Aang is the kind of delinquent who knows you have to be in a safe space and healthy mindset to properly enjoy hallucinogens.
Currently amused by the idea that Aang is a delinquent. Forget punk or prep, he has tattoos, he's constantly destroying public property, he's encouraging kids to run away from home, he's homeless, he has no qualms about lying or stealing, has gotten into street fights, skips school, acts out in class, and he has canonically gone to jail and made friends with the criminals there.
Short of drug use, he is the textbox definition of a delinquent, he just hides it with how fucking cute he is.

Some "if Yue is alive and went travelling with the Gaang" designs
With a ton of text about cultural inspiration.

The main book 2 look

I wanted to show cultural differences between the tribes, so Yue's look is sort of Mongolian. There were Mongolian-styled hats in the Northern tribe, and Yue's dress under the coat looked like a Mongolian deel (thanks @atlaculture for all these posts about clothes and everything else!), so it's not much against the canon information.
So she's wearing a deel again with a second layer - there are chinese actors on photos as far as I know; I hope it's okay. One-shoulder silhouette refers to later Aang's clothes because Yue is still kind of a spiritual person (she wasn't a fighter, so I want her to have some other useful talent – not a bender or healer like Katara or a non-bender warrior like Suki). Violet, pink and white were originally her colors, no changes here. Three blue characters would be too much for a group of five, and total white is not practical at all. I like to think that violet color shows high rank in the Avatar universe; in the original series it was only worn by princess Yue, Kanna, the chief Hakoda's mother, and by king Bumi.
Yue's boots here are mongolian gutals/gutuls (the collage is already big, but I used them again for one of Book 3-looks).
Her hair become simpler – just two braids and a hairpiece, to match her previous decorated hairdo. I guess if she's travelling with the Gaang she's not that much of a Moon Spirit anymore (maybe she returned the part of the moon spirit that saved her and was healed other way?), so I decided to forego the moon-referring part. Also it will be easier to do by herself since she has no servants now... The headdress I took from modern Mongolian dancers; the front part is crescent-moon-shaped.
The Ba Sing Se dress

I fell in love with this Ao Dai dress, it's simple, long and elegant. But... it's mostly Vietnamese… and I'm afraid that it's modern and not historically accurate. Also it does not really go together with other Ba Sing Se dresses :( because I did not want to just copy-paste some background look. But there is at least one dress with a tail, thigh high slits and a standing collar on the dress underneath, so... I guess my choice is not that bad? The tail makes her look more royal. The fan is the same which Toph and Katara had. For the palette I chose Yue's white color with EK greens and warm yellow/ochre to match Katara and Toph. The hairdo is copied from the series; I chose one with the tassel on the right, to refer the NWT/Korean accessories.
The Fire Nation disguise

A confession – I don't like FN clothes. I wasn't sure if I would be able to do it properly, so I almost copied that attire (left one) – asymmetry, as a Thai touch, which again matches Aang's Invasion Buddhist-like clothes. The palette keeps Yue's signature white, with some pink of a warmer shade, as they wear it in the Fire Nation. And the "royal" long skirt, 'cause she's still not a fighter. The look is simplified so I could not keep zigzag ornament on her longyi skirt, therefore I moved it onto the top part.
I used Thai dancers jewelry and... flip flops? idk how they are called in Southeast Asia (don't like Sokka and Katara's FN shoes at all, why the design is so complicated?).
For covering her hair I used a turban, inspired by Myanmar turbans; a white one, so if some hair will show, it won't be too noticeable. Also Yue could still be easily recognised on screen/page by her white head. The long end of the fabric on her right resembles burmese hairstyle silhouette.
The Invasion-and-till-finale look

For her dress I used a deel (again); the sleeveless jacket is an hommage to her original design and has some Korean vibes, like Toph's Ba Sing Se dress (at least I hope so). Katara and Sokka's season 1 looks have Korean influence, so I guess it's okay. Gutals are from her Book 2 main look. I have a soft spot for them.
My favorite thing is her hair :)))) It's a mix of Inuit/Mongolian braids and a hairpiece, also from the Book 2 look. This time there will be more braids. Two on the front – I wanted to keep them from her original hairdo, but now they are braided together (I saw this on the Alaskan Inuit women photos). On the back there are five, inspired by a Mongolian hairdo for young unmarried girls, who wore multiple braids. I decided to make five, because Alaskian Inuit language uses this amount for counting and with two front braids it'll make seven, which is a lucky Mongolian number. And in theory a limited number should be easier to animate.
The post-canon noble look

After the final battle I thought Yue will come back to Agna Qel'a and become a more active political figure. I chose a white kuspuk (blue color is still for Katara and Sokka), showing that she is ready to lead her tribe after this journey, not the passive perfect princess she was before. "She is associated in canon with the masculine yang of the yin and yang and the moon which, in most Inuit and Eskimo cultures, is considered masculine as well. While white kuspuks are associated with men and specifically family patriarchs, a feminine kuspuk in white makes plenty of sense for Yue's character" – @mostly-mundane-atla helped me a lot with the cultural meaning of the clothes (I am so grateful!). Also it's an hommage to her total-white Moon Spirit look. And I changed her hair again to Greenland updo with two tied braids on the front – more complicated than the simple braids she wore during the journey. It looks formal.
NWT is less Inuit-inspired and has a strong Mongolian touch (to make them look more "modern"? dunno) but I guess the formal wear for the spiritual princess could refer to older traditions. Which should be the same with SWT, 'cause SWT was originally a part of NWT – or so I heard. For example, Kuruk, the NWT Avatar who lived about 400 years ago, has nothing Mongolian in his look.
All the looks are simplified to match the style of the original cartoon. I know there should be more details and embroidery, but my goal here was to draw something (at least theoretically) applicable for animation. And no Hahn's betrothal necklace of course.
Also I want to mention here other great Yue designs, since they are the inspiration behind the overall idea of the post – the moon looks and "Yue joins the Gaang" outfits by amazingly talented @chiptrillino.
P.S.: an important note
This is my first attempt ever to design outfits that could fit the world of A:tLA. I am not Asian or ingenious, not an expert in their cultures or costume history at all, not a professional character designer. I am just a fan who tried to create designs with respect to real cultures and people. Nothing here was supposed to be offensive in any way. If something still is – please inform me so I could fix it as soon as possible.
I hope, as a fan, I have the right to draw fanarts looking for an inspiration in the cultures that inspired the original cartoon.
If you see mistakes in my post, be it in drawings or a text, also feel free to tell me. I will deeply appreciate it.

My Jealousy, Jealousy Started Following Me
Characters: Avatar Aang, Katara, Sokka, Suki, Zuko, Toph Beifong, Ty Lee, Avatar Korra, Asami Sato, Tenzin, Kya II, Lin Beifong, Suyin Beifong, Opal Beifong [Might do another with Azula, Mako, Bolin, and Kuvira if yall want] Had this in the drafts for a while. Just had to finish it up. Holy shit this took forever. Kept debating if it was worth it...
Avatar Aang
Aang likes to think he doesn't get jealous
He's calm and collective
But that all changed when one of the girls at Toph's Metal Bending Academy tried hitting you up
He likes to give them the benefit of the doubt and thinks maybe they don't know you're both dating
"Hey Babe! Come look at this sculpture Toph made!" [He'll call you nonchantly, hoping they'll get the hint]
But when the other person also walks over, still flirting with you, that's when he gets angry
He'd want to confront them, but honestly he's to nice for that
He might ask Katara for help
Katara will tell you how Aang feels
You'll confront Aang, but he'll pretend he doesn't know what you're talking about
"You know, you can tell me, Aang. You trust me, right?"
He'll sigh and admit and you'll comfort him, even confiding in him that sometimes you get jealous when people hit on him
Katara
HAHAHAHA
Oh, I really feel bad for whoever is flirting with you
Katara is a very jealous woman
She doesn't like people taking what's hers
She might lightly bend them, but she'll do it nonchalantly
She'll justify it by saying that it's not a big deal and you're blowing it out of proportions
She gets really frustrated with herself, because she hates this feeling
She's very powerful, so she's not someone you want to mess with
She gets irritated and will roll her eyes as someone tries to flirt with you
Very passive aggressive
You better be prepared for a fight
Sokka
He's so confused
Did that person not know you were taken?
He already has insecurities, so this doesn't help
He knows you're great, one of the MANY things he likes about you, so of course people would want your attention, but the point still stands
He'll probably do something stupid to get your attention
It's rather ridiculous
You'll look away from the person flirting with you to see your boyfriend about to get hurt
"Hey, I have to leave, my boyfriend is about to get himself killed"
Suki
She's very confident, so she's not worried about this person at all
Though, she is annoyed, because who did that person think they were?
She will probably call your attention to her and do something to impress you, so you focus on her
She smiles when seeing you turn your attention away from them [Flirter]
It's a huge win for her
There is a slight part of her that is insecure because she sees you as incredible and she knows other people see it too
What if you end up leaving her? It really bothers her
So she's always doing crazy stuff to impress you so you never leave
Zuko
Probably the easiest to anger and get jealous
He has no control over his emotions what so ever
He WILL start a fight with the guy hitting on you
He does NOT care who they are or what was say, he's going to put them in their place
But before he does that, he'll express to you that he's upset, but you think it's nothing
He tries to win your affection by beating that guy up
You're just annoyed because you think he overreacted. He says he didn't [He did]
Will gaslight you, saying it's your fault
"Why were you even talking to him!?"
He's so angry and he'll break the closest thing to him
He wants to control his anger, but you really bring out this side of him. He makes sure you know it too, because he tells you
So, when he's done throwing this temper tantrum, you both leave the party; Mad af
You're mad that the party and good vibe was ruined and he's mad that you're mad, because he was just trying to get that dude away from you
Toph Beifong
She can feel the other person's heart beat pick up as they continue to hit on you
She's annoyed, but doesn't know how to express it healthily
She might use her bending to push that person away from you
She'll give them a show, so that they can have something to talk about
Might even crush them
The thought makes her smirk
She'll send little earthquakes to the person
Treated thems like a ball and and bounces them with the earth, without making it obvious
She'll forget about it when you come over to her and talk to her
Ty Lee
She's the least likely to get jealous because she's also a player
Though she does get upset when seeing that you're uncomfortable
She'll glare and excuse herself from whatever conversation she's in, even if it's with Azula, and walks over to where you are
Her tactic is to come in hot, just like the person flirting with you
She'll aggressively flirt with them to try and make them uncomfortable
But if that doesn't work, she'll be very direct and say that you're together and that they need to stop
They'll think it's a joke but Ty Lee is dead serious
She's willing to fight them if it comes to that
She might also grab your hand and drag you away, if you ask her not to make a scene
She'll keep an eye on you for the rest of the night
Avatar Korra
Korra gets extremely jealous
If someone even LOOKS at you in a way she doesn't like, she'll get angry
She's possessive over the things that are hers
Anyone approaches her and they are pushed into the wall
She's pissed and can't control her bending
She'll apologize to the person she hurt, but she doesn't really mean it. She's still focused on you
You're HERs, so why are they talking to you
Everyone knows you belong to the Avatar, so why even try?
She's thinking of all the ways she could kill them
It kind of makes her feel a little better, but not much
She is slightly insecure though, because what if you do like them better than her? No, you can't... You just can't like them more
Asami Sato
She'll roll her eyes and glare at them
They've got some balls talking to you, everyone knows you have a girlfriend, so why is that person flirting w/ you ??
She'll come strutting over & flip her hair
"Who's this babe?"
She's smiling, but anyone with eyes can see that's not true
Man if looks could kill
You tell her that they were telling you about some acomplishment they achieved
"Oh, did you tell them how we work with the Avatar and have saved the world?"
She's deadass going to shove her accomplishments in their face
She's so pretty too so she knows that they don't stand a chance
She's already won this fight, so they might as well give up
Tenzin
Haha? Him? Jealous? No of course not-
Okay, he's extremely jealous, but it doesn't show at all
He has mad stern resting face- No emotions
But inside he's steaming
You probably have a little bit of an age gap, so he's worried you'll leave him for someone your age
[But you've liked Tenzin for a long time, so you weren't letting him go anytime soon]
He's trying to preoccupy his attention
Though, it's not working
He can't get it off his mind
Will definitely start a fight over it later
Kya
She's confused. Why is someone flirting with you?
She's not insecure, just annoyed
Because who the hell did they think they were? Did they not know you were taken. No, they had to have known
She's pretty easygoing, so she won't act irrationally
Instead, she'll continue doing her thing and allowing you to do your own thing, because you're your own human being
She'll probably bring it up, like... offhandly, so you don't get suspicious
"Hey, who was the person you were talking to? You know, the one who had talked to Tenzin?"
You don't even think about it and are like "Oh! Yeah, they were so annoying. I think they were trying to hit on me."
She laughs it off, but she's not happy
Thankfully, you complain about it, annoyed af
Lin Beifong
We know how she acts when she's broken up with [Hence her destroying ATI]
Try her and see what happens
She's a cop and she's willing to play dirty and arrest the person or frame them for a crime
She's going to ruin their life
And she doesn't even care if it destroys that person
The only person she cares about is you
She wants to hurt them
And she will stop at no means necessary to make sure it doesn't ever happen again
Suyin Beifong
She, like her daughter, is passive aggressive
She'll glare and crush whatever is in her hand
She'll fantasize about all the ways she would kill the person flirting with you
She wants for it not to bother her, but it really does
Maybe because there is a part of her that is scared you'll leave her [Like Tenzin did to her sister]
She'll take a deep breath, before smiling, and approaching you
She'll try and join the conversation, but the person who was hitting on you cuts them off and pushes her out of the conversation
She gets pissed
How dare they do that to her
She wants to throw hands with them, but holds herself together
She'll grab your hand, capturing your attention
"Yeah?"
She then tells you she wants to go back home
Opal Beifong
She feels very strongly about you and doesn't know what to feel when seeing someone flirt with you so openly
She knows it's not your fault, but god does she hate watching it
Though with her outgoing nature, she'd walk up and join the conversation, switching it to what she wants
She's easy going, so she doesn't really exhibit jealousy, because she goes with the flow
Though if you look closely, you can see her eye twitch and her mouth frown ever so lightly
She's quite passive aggressive and can be quite mean with her words

When , did you , Start Paring Aang and Toph and why do you pair them, Together are there similarities between the Two .?
"Do you really think friendships can last more than one lifetime?"
Unlike Zutara that I remember well when I started ship them, I don't really remember when I started ship Taang (and Sukka). But, it was long time ago because I found them so cute together.
Taang have potential, but it needs time or another season to develop their feeling. Because, while Zutara had some romantic moments, Taang didn't have moments like that so it would be forced if they ended up together in season 3 (just like canon).
Then, how could they have potential if they didn't have romantic moments?
Their connection
Aang had connection with all his master bending. Katara was there to saved him, Zuko was there to captured him. Their connection with Aang makes these two characters always face each other and had their own development.
Meanwhile, Toph wasn't in the connection between Aang with Zuko and Katara. She had her own connection to Aang. In the swaps episode, Sokka and Katara saw a vision of their past, but Aang saw a vision of Toph before even meeting her in person.
There's an interesting theory that Aang not only saw a vision of his future, but also his past. Because in Nightmares and Daydreams episode, Toph has no face in his dream. It was parallel with Avatar Kuruk's lover that her face stolen by Koh.

Instead of water, Aang was connected to earth, Toph's element. Even though earth was a difficult element for Aang at first, but it was element that Aang often used in battle after mastering it.
In final battle, earth was the element that re-opened his chakra and made him enter the avatar state.
They compliment each other
Just like fire and water, air is the opposite of earth. They are different, but compliment each other.
Air is the element of freedom. Aang is free person. He is Toph's first friend and also the one who offered her freedom, something she really wants and needs.
Earth is the element of substance. Toph is persistent person. She is the one who taught Aang to be tougher and stand his ground, something he really needs to get out of his comfort zone.
They have same vibes
Toph and Aang are still kids and they act like kids. They like to have fun. That isn't something wrong. In fact, they have the same vibe so that neither one is having fun, while the other is taking care of him.
Yes, Aang is the one who makes Katara child again, but still they don't have the same vibe. Katara has a motherly nature, so Aang's childish nature makes their relationship like mother and son.
It's different when Katara with Zuko. Zuko is more mature, so when Katara is with him, she doesn't have to act motherly. Instead, it's Zuko who look after her, brings her things, and reminds her to rest.
Their Culture

Believe me or not, I found this from Aang/Kataang stand and it made me wonder. If Katara and Aang's cultures are different, then what makes them suitable to be together?
Cultural differences actually don't matter if they can respect each other, but this is Aang's expression of water tribe culture.
Katara : Bato, it looks like home! Sokka : Everything's here, even the pelts! Aang : [Sarcastically.] Yeah, nothing's cozier than dead animal skins.
And this is Aang's expression of water tribe food
Hama : I wanted to surprise you! I bought all this food today so I could fix you a big Water Tribe dinner. Of course, I can't get all the ingredients I need here, but ocean kumquats are a lot like sea prunes if you stew them long enough. Aang : [Sticking his tongue out in disgust.] Great!
According to the post I got, Aang can wear Earth Kingdom clothing because it doesn't use animal materials. He can also wear fire nation clothing, but I don't think all types of fire nation clothing, because there are fire nation clothing made of leather.
The people of Earth Kingdom aren't vegetarian, but not all of their food from animal based. Aang doesn't seem to have a problem with their food.
Btw, Aang has problem with Fire Nation food too.
Aang : [Looking at a meat display. Disappointedly.] Oh, we're going to a meat place? Sokka : Come on, Aang, everyone here eats meat. Even the meat! [Points at a hippo cow eating a piece of meat swarming with flies.]
So, yeah, for me Aang and Toph not only have potential in the story, but also have chemistry with each other.

Not to compate siblings, but I wish the zutarians could be more like zukaangers, specifically with the incessant need to make Zuko/the fire nation seem less bad. It seems like they're constantly trying to justify Zuko's actions and paint the fire nation as just 'misguided'. Zutarians refuse to give Zuko guilt for the actual things he does.
And it's baffling to me because a big theme that zutara and zukaang share is guilt/forgiveness. Zukaangers lean into this so fucking hard. They will give Zuko guilt for everything he did, everything his forefathers did, everything his nation did, hell everything the world did, and have it juxtaposed by Aang's forgiveness and reminders that Zuko is not his nation nor his past mistakes.
It feels like zukaangers have Aang forgive Zuko because he can and wants to. Meanwhile, zutarian have Katara forgive Zuko because she should. If that makes sense.
Zukaang is everything Zutarians want their ship to be.
Based on a dynamic that is actually a central point in the story and that had a profound effect on these characters? Check.
Selfless hero that looks at the villain, picks up on all the sad vibes on that motherfucker, and confidently says "If not friend, why friend-shaped"? Check.
Hero's kindness living rent-free in the villains head? Check.
CONSTANT red and blue imagery that actually has a deeper meaning instead of just being the result of the show assigning colors to each nation to make it easier for the seven year olds to keep track of everyone? Check.
CONSTANT parallels, with entire episodes and full arcs dedicated to it, including one of the characters having a dream in which they are the same person because they're THAT alike? Check.
Romantic imagery?

Motherfucking check.
I guess that's why Zukaang shippers are much more sane. Even though Zuko and Aang's dynamic with each other in the show was clearly meant to be platonic, it is so important to canon and so throughly explored by it that it becomes IMPOSSIBLE to make the ship work if you mischaracterize either of them. It really wouldn't take much rewriting to make them a perfectly reasonable endgame - and I say this as someone who doesn't ship it and prefers Zuko to be an older brother figure to Aang.
Meanwhile Zutara has nothing beyond aesthetic and "enemies to lovers is a nice trope." The characters don't interact much until the end of the story, don't think of each other at all for most of it, and are openly, genuinely uncomfortable when people think they're dating. It's all about self-inserting as Katara to date an OC they attached Zuko's name and face too, or vice versa (more rare, but it happens).
OF COURSE it's out of character, OF COURSE it completely screws up the dynamic - it was never about "How would this pairing work?", it was about shilling the idea of one of the characters involved.

hey so can we hear about that baatar sr lore? 👀
Lmao ok. Just bear in mind that this is all headcanons and silliness.
So, we don't know much about Baatar Sr, other than the fact that he was Zaofu's architecht and somehow bagged the bad bitch Suyin Beifong who then proceeded to wring the poor man dry. He is also acrophobic, and Toph doesn't like him.
Truly a treasure trove of information.
So we really have little clues from where he originates from. I personally took inspiration from his name, which is Mongolian, and means "hero" (which is funny, but might give us some insight on who his parents wished him to be). Due to this I always imagined he would come from some ethnic group inspired by Mongolian culture.
Though it is important to note that this is purely conjecture on my part, as this the origin of a name doesn't always mean much in the Avatarverse. For example, Katara's name seems to have roots in Arabic, despite her inspiration being rooted in native americans.
I think the most Mongolian inspirations we see in Avatar can be found in the Northern Water Tribe and the bordering areas of the Earth Kingdom, so I could see Baatar being born somewhere between the Chenbao province and the Taihua Mountains, not terribly far from the Northern Air Temple his daughter would one day head to to begin her Airbending training.

I personally like the idea of Baatar's parents being a pair of surly old lesbians so that is my personal headcanon. His mom's gay. My friend once said he has "raised by lesbians" vibes and that had become canon to me.
I like the idea of his mothers being members, or perhaps even leaders, of some nomadic group, herding livestock and acting as travelling merchants. Maybe Baatar was expected to take on leadership after his mothers, and that is why his name has such a grand meaning lol.
And while I think Baatar loves his tribe and has deep care for his culture, he's always wanted to do something else with his life. He found himself drawn to and fascinated by the bustling cities they would visit, and eventually began drawing up fantastical ideas for homes and settlements in his sketchbook/diary.
So, as a young adult, he finally takes the plunge and travels to Ba Sing Se, to study architecture. I think this would place a big strain on his relationship with his mothers, who wanted him to stay and eventually lead the tribe. Perhaps it would even lead to a few years of estrangement. Something for Baatar to have in common with Su lol
Baatar flourishes as an architect, but I think that once the intial excitement of building new things passes, he becomes disillusioned. Most of the people who hire him are upper ring citizens of Ba Sing Se, who either want him to replicate traditional buildings, or follow well established trends. His dreams of new creations and outlandish designs seem they will never have a chance to come to fruition.
But then he is sought out by Suyin, and she is wiling to back his creativity. And she, in some strange way, becomes his muse.
The city he designs is beautiful, sleek and elegant, yet practical. Just like her. He works closely with Su, and they become fast friends. She tells him about her adventures, and he incorporates aspects of her stories into his designs. And, as the city of Zaofu begins to bloom upon the map, so does Su and Baatar's love for each other.

I think they find solace in each other, two people isolated from their families, carving out their own place in the world and starting a family.
I don't think Baatar's mothers would care for the wedding, but they might show up at the news of grandbabies. While they're not the biggest fans of their son's weird metal city, they do like Su a whole lot! It is a mystery to them how their loser son bagged this baddie.
They're very loving grandmothers, however, they wish their grandbabies could grow up "properly"- travelling across the icy tundra up north. This has led to occasional attempted babynapping, as 3 year olds fit in saddle bags exceptionally well.
While I think that Baatar doesn't want his children leaving Zaofu quite yet, and doesn't miss his old life, I think he makes sure his kids know the basics of camping, and even made sure they all know how to ride, just for old times sake.
And while sometimes he reminisces fondly about his nomadic childhood, I don't think Baatar misses the life. He loves the home he built for his wife and family, his pride and joy is in creation, and in the life he designed alongside Suyin.
#i certainly have more on baatar sr here. but that's his backstory that i made up#beifong brainrot#baatar sr#baatar#sutar#suyin beifong#avatar#legend of korra#tlok#the legend of korra#avatar the legend of korra#atlok#lok

I don’t know why I’ve been spending so much time thinking about who the Avatar the last Airbender characters would be as tributes in the 74th hunger games but I wanna talk about it because I’m obsessed with these two fandoms rn
So here’s who I think some of the character from Atla would be as hunger games tribute characters with little to no explanation;
Azula - 100% Clove, she screams career tribute to me and I find her aura uncannily similar to Clove’s. Especially her ‘I’m the best. I could kill you from across this stage’ line and her just being on of the most competent tributes ( Also imagine that scene where Thresh is about to kill her and she shows fear for the first time and starts screaming for Cato but it’s Azula screaming for Zuko because when all is said and done he’s still her big brother-)
Mai - major Foxface vibes, stays by herself, is quick and skilled and doesn’t trust anyone (and then kills herself with the poisoned berries)
Zuko - although Zuko fits the role of a Career who unlearns propaganda and realizes he was set up to die like Cato he also gives me major Katniss energy because the odds are most definitely not in his favor
Aang - Rue. This is the main reason I see Zuko as Katniss because imagine these two in their situation. From the minute Zuko joins team Avatar he’s Aangs emo older brother. Imagine him (reluctantly at first) teaming up with this pure little twelve year old who helps him when he’s injured and then has to see him die in his arms
Katara - Katara is more difficult to place but I could see her winning the way Joanna Mason won her games by flying under the radar at first and then showing her true strength towards the end
Sokka - Thresh. I could see him sticking by himself and only attacking to avenge his district partner. He’d also probably realize how bad the odds are from the beginning
Alternatively I could also see the Ember Island gang (Azula, Yy lee, Mai and Zuko) being the career pack and Zuko and Mai having the Clove and Cate arc
I know this is super niche but if anyone has any other ideas for who the other atla kids might be or someone else you see the ones I listed being PLEASE tell me I’d love to hear what other people think

Five More Death Battle Match-Ups I'd like to see
So, the Death Battle Independent Era has been happening along, and frankly, I think it's been pretty good so far. Bowser vs Eggman and Ghost Rider vs Spawn are already shooting up my top 10 (Bowser vs Eggman is already my new favourite Death Battle), and even ones that I haven't been too hot about are still not bad, they're like a Stitch vs Rocket Raccoon at worst.
And I also had some fun writing about Match-Ups I'd really like to see, and try to justify my... admittedly weird taste in Match-Ups. I have found that my preference leans more towards obscurer characters and less likely match-ups. Don't get me wrong, I have a few MUs that don't fall under those descriptions, but looking at my list, there are a lot more Cybersix vs Jack's than Katara vs lapis Lazuli's.
Really, I'm doing this to see if anyone else is interested in some of my most wanted MUs, though admittedly this selection is probably more plausible than my first list was. Well, without further ado, five more Death Battle MUs I'd like to see.
#5. Lena vs Hunter (Owl House vs DuckTales 2017)
So... a while back, a long while back, I did a series of Polls called "Disney Duels", where I pit two Disney characters together and let people vote on who would win a fight. I had a lot of fun doing it, and seeing a lot of the reactions, especially for Season 2 Round 10; Lena vs Hunter; Created for Evil, Made for Good.
This was the most voted on Match-up for Disney Duels, at 373 votes, and I can see why, this was admittedly one of the better match-ups of Disney Duels, and Tumblr is absolutely crazy for Owl House and DuckTales 2017, and all the votes and reactions got me thinking, this would make a really good episode of Death Battle. Like we're probably gonna get Anne vs Luz or Luz vs Akko first, but keep this one in mind, it would be pretty awesome.
#4. Ruby Rose vs Tucker (RWBY vs Red vs Blue)
Admittedly, this one is kind of... strange, I'm sure there are better RWBY vs Red vs Blue Match-Ups, and I'm sure people are going to tell me them here. Ruby vs Tucker has always vibed with me though, and I think it has to do with the theme. I haven't watched a lot of RWBY, and from everything I hear that may be a good thing, but from what I did watch, the theme of "Thrust into leadership roles" works pretty alright here.
I do feel like this is a fight that could work, and a RWBY/RVB MU seems pretty over-due. I wonder if the guys are a little tentative about doing Red vs Blue Match-Ups in general, it wouldn't surprise me if they were. Still, I think there is some merit to this Match-Up.
#3. Stan Smith vs Sterling Archer (American Dad vs Archer)
Adult Animation Secret Agents, I feel like everyone has that one MU on their list that just feels too obvious, like this is a fight they would have done in season 2 or 3 kind of obvious.
I mean, I almost don't want to include this one here, again it just feels like a battle they would have done before, but I'd rather be honest and predictable than dishonest and unique, so here is one of my obvious Match-Ups for this list.
#2. Saxton Hale vs Brock Samson (Team Fortress 2 vs Venture Brothers)
I don't care if this one is a stomp... actually the last list I did had a total stomp MU at the second place as well... weird coincidence. Team Fortress 2 needs another episode, and Brock Samson has been aching for an episode of Death Battle for a long time.
I think Saxton Hale would be perfect for a Death Battle episode, the kind of Over the Top violence that the show is good at is practically his bread and butter. It would also be fun to see a non-mercenary TF2 character in DB, even if their are only three who would make decent DB episodes.
#1. Sly Cooper vs Rouge the Bat (Sly Cooper vs Sonic the Hedgehog)
When it comes to Match-Ups in the category of "How has this not happened yet" I feel like this is one of the big ones. Two anthropomorphic thief characters, like this Match-Up just screams season 4 at the very least.
I feel like this battle is more or less a victim of "Algorithmic Thinking", where the guys have to think about what Match-Up would be good for the YouTube algorithm rather than what would be fun to make. That's the entire reason Cole MacGrath vs Alex Mercer didn't happen until Season 10, and probably why we still haven't got Travis Touchdown vs Jack Cayman or any representation from BioShock, Dead Space or Creepypasta as of yet, though an SCP battle may be coming soon, hoping that happens.
Admittedly, the reasoning is pretty debatable, Sonic the Hedgehog is an absurdly popular franchise, so any Sonic battle, I think, would do pretty well viewership wise, but I'll never know, maybe they're just waiting for the right person to write or animate it. Still, if this battle gets announced, I know people would be hyped.

Why is Kataang a NOTP for you?
Honestly? Part of it is simply preference. I don't think they look good together. I don't think their chemistry works romantically for me on a subjective level. And I won't deny at all that at the end of the day, shipping is really just about taste & they're just not to my taste & it's okay if other people feel differently.
Anywho thank you for the ask I'm assuming you want to know in good faith so I will share my reasons. Fair warning if you like the ship you should probably stop reading now because I REALLY don't & I'm gonna be totally honest about why:
I don't bring this up often because it's been debated to death in this fandom but since you asked: I hate that Aang kisses Katara & she doesn't want him to then suddenly with no buildup or discussion she's kissing him in the finale. I think it sends the wrong message & I am aware that I'm a big believer in "media doesn't have to have a moral" but that's also something based on context. Avatar is a kid's show & it often DOES have clear moral messaging & it bothers me that that's the message being sent to little girls who watch the show. How often do we have to watch the pretty girl being the prize for the heroic guy?
Now, before anyone wants to fight - yes, I've seen the people who take the dislike over this narrative choice WAY too far, calling Aang a rapist & a horrible person & saying that it's an abusive relationship & all sorts of ridiculous things. That's not what I'm saying. I just think it was a bad call to have something like that happen & then suddenly without any discussion, they're apparently "endgame." It's a bad writing choice, it's insulting to Katara, & it bothers me the message it sends.
That specific caveat is a big reason I hate the ship but it's not the only reason. Throughout the entire show, Aang's feelings for Katara are made explicitly clear. He has a huge crush on her & it comes up often. Katara's feelings for Aang are shown to be much more like a big sister. We get a few instances where it's slightly hinted at that maybe she wants him to like her, but not even that she actually has romantic feelings for HIM. In the cave episodes, it's more about how it hurts her feelings that he says he doesn't want to kiss her. And that's the most I can really think of for evidence that Katara actually has romantic feelings for Aang, prior to the finale. MAYBE the dance episode? But even that I personally interpreted as feelings of friendship.
I'm not saying no one should like the ship. If you like it great! More power to you. I don't get the appeal & that's fine. The first time I watched the show I was fully 100% expecting a "friendship isn't a downgrade" dynamic where Katara & Aang ended the show as close friends & he put his romantic feelings aside & moved on. That was what it felt like everything was leading up to for me & I was very disappointed & surprised to be proven wrong in what felt like a very, very random kiss at the end.
Side note for the Zutaras: I fully expected Katara & Zuko to get together also tbh lol. I'm not mad that they didn't, I don't really ship it, it's just not my cup of tea but I'm not against it the way I am Kataang. I just got the vibe that that's where the story was going because of the way they sort of SEEMED to have a romantic storyline with everyone always thinking they were boyfriend & girlfriend & the vibes between them. Also the whole sun & moon thing. Personally, I think evil women are better & Zuko is the wrong fire sibling for Katara BUT that's unrelated. Anyway, that's what I mean when I always say I'm not a Zuara but I do believe in their beliefs. I don't personally care about the ship but I think they are correct when they say it was hinted at by canon. That's totally unrelated to my dislike for Kataang because again, I prefer Katara with a girl (or Jet) if it's MY preference BUT I thought I'd throw that out there because I'm guessing a Zutara shipper sent this ask & it'll be Zutaras reading this post & well, I am a Zutara ally lmao
Anyway, I hope this post doesn't open a can of worms. I don't want to argue with anyone about this. It's just not that serious for me. If you like the ship that's great! I'm not stopping you! But since I was asked I'll be honest about my reasons that it gives me the ick. Thank you for reading this far if you did & a virtual high five to the fellow haters haha
#anti kataang#hater tag#again - it's NOT that serious i really don't want to pick a fight#i'm just sharing my honest reasons for feeling the way i do

Hi guys. A big Kataang fan. But I just need answers because I’ve been thinking about it lately. I know that bryke said that they never intended for zutara and that kataang was always the plan. But now when I rewatched season 3 and especially episode 20 where zuko sacrificed himself for katara, I’ve been just thinking if that scene was created with the intention of making zutara endgame, but in the final episode choosing kataang again. Because I’ve heard all kinds of stuff, that bryke was still unsure who they wanted katara to end up with during the making of season 3, because I was reading a text on a website that they hadn’t finished season 3 and were still not sure who katara would end up with. So that makes me also wonder, what if katara was planned to end up with aang, but then in episode 17 (season3) and if not in that episode, then in episode 20, they started to plan on making zutara endgame and made katara confused about her feelings for aang, and then that the creators made that dramatic scene where zuko sacrificed himself for katara in episode 20, to develop the chemistry and romantic love between zuko and katara and then to make them falling in love. But that when they started to begin working on the final episode, that they just changed their minds again and just went on with kataang as endgame. Idk if all this makes sense and easy for yall to understand what I mean but I hope someone gets what I mean. Idk just the scene where zuko sacrificed himself for katara just gives me the vibes that the creators started to have an idea of making zutara endgame that they wanted a big dramatic scene between them so they make them falling in love and making them endgame, which I know didn’t happen, but still).

Aang and Androgyny
This is gonna be a bit ramblish but I've been thinking about it, A Lot.
I keep seeing people describe Aang as 'feminine' and that's always kinda sat wrong with me but I couldn't really tell why because they usually had a point, but recently I've realized it's because Aang isn't feminine, he's a great representation of androgyny but people see an absense of masculinity (especially in comparison with Sokka, Zuko, and even Toph) and read that as feminine.
He has a few 'feminine' moments, like the flower crown and the jewlery making, and he also has plenty of 'masculine' moments, the first that come to mind being him shutting people up in The Great Divide and him giggling with Sokka over buttresses.
And I've heard people point out that he has many personality traits associated with women, passivity being a big one, along with his empathy and care, but he also has plenty associated with men like confidence and, uh, I don't know what the word for it is, the only word that's coming to mind is tomfoolery, but that vibe. Being a tomfool.
But I think the kicker is, the two (positive) traits I see most often associated with him are his love for fun, and his wisdom. Both of which are genderless traits. When you think of wisedom you either think of an old man or an old woman. The gender of 'wise' is old. And fun loving is also not a trait strongly tied to either gender either, it's one that bring to mind children or the 'young at heart' (and isn't that interesting, that Aang can be most well known for acting both too young and too old)
Even Aang's basic character design has andogyny in it. He's bald, which is something usually associated with older men bc they lose hair. Among the young, both men and women can be bald, it's an unconventional hair choice either way. His outfit for two thirds of the show is one that is canonically genderless, it's simply the outfit given to those who are learning airbending, regardless of gender or age. And even when he gets out of that one, what does he go to? A school uniform. One both boys and girls wear. His final outfit is sorta ??? on the gender scale because like, clearly a woman would need to wear something under that, but also looser more revealing clothing is typically reserved for women (looking at Katara's fire nation outfit). I feel like there's a reason most genderbent art of Aang I've seen retain his outfit just with wraps underneath.
Aang is almost perfectly androgynous in just about everything he does. He's literally the fucking avatar, the symbol of balance, a being that has been both male and female many times.
But, because he's a boy, people see androgyny and think feminine, just like people see girls who lack feminimity as masculine. They're not. Androgynous is a thing a person can be.
I'm not saying like, Aang is genderqueer or anything, his reaction to the Ember Island Players alone shows he's connected to his sense of gender, but I just don't like people calling him feminine, or watching people debate this by pointing out masculine traits. He's neither.
He's just Aang.
#today on#“i found another reason im so attached to this character”#im probably biased#being nonbinary myself#but seeing Aang get called feminine for just not being masculine has always bothered me#just like I hate when ppl chalk toph up to masculine#i think shes more masculine then Aang is feminine#but a lot of the time when people point out 'masculine' things she does#its just examples of her not acting feminine#thats not what masculinity is#nor is feminimity the lack of masculinity#anyway#idk what my point is#i do love flower crown aang tho#and genderbent aang#so its not like I have a problem with ppl emphasizing feminimity in Aang#i just wish it was more widely acknowledged that hes just kinda a kid#aang#aang talks#pro aang#atla#woodlaflababab#aanglove

A big part of the appeal to me of Kataang vs Zutara as a punk black woman is that Kataang feels really queer-coded,specifically t4t,and Zutara is literally just......gender stereotypes and toxic cishet norms.Katara screams teen trans girl and Aang's gncness and confidence in it with only getting defensive when he's mocked for it gives off transmasc bigender/genderfluid vibes and the defying of cisheteronormative gender dynamics in their interactions and narrative sells it big time and Zutara in comparison is extremely shallow???????Symbolism with no inherent romantic subtext and patriachy expectations is the whole reasoning because why it's 'misogynistic' it didn't happen💀Ntm Katara's the one person his age he dosen't have chemistry with at all(Zukka,Maiko,Jetko and Ty Luko)but gets shoved onto him literallt because she hated him.Z/Ks are so dumb for that ong
You’re speaking nothing but facts. Those kataang anti zk shippers don’t wanna admit their ship is basic AF.

(Mini rant since I know you also love Aang) I’m sorry but takes by that one Zutara account the-badger-mole is genuinely so bad, I’m dead serious. 😭They constantly try to twist Aang and make it look like Zuko is the second coming of Christ while Aang is the love child of Satan. It’s hilarious- like…I love Zuzu but to say HE was more altruistic than Aang in season 1 is hilarious. I saw a post saying that and my mind deadass melted. 💀Idm Zutara I think it’s okay but I don’t understand demonizing Mai or Aang, both are good characters and all have their own flaws…
Not to mention Idk they just seem sort of condescending to me if that makes sense? Like I just get a bad vibe from TBM 😭sorry for long ask but I just wanted to know your thoughts on their…interesting takes lol
Oh I blocked them back when I first joined the fandom on this hellsite🤣. A mutual of mine warned me about them, Sokkastyles, and a few other big names over in Zutara land. Unfortunately though I do see their takes from time to time since I follow Kataang shippers/ Maiko shippers and vice versa, and they sometimes make or reblog a post about the badger mole, debunking whatever wild claim they made (which is always amusing to see). The way how they try and paint Zuko as this saint who could do no wrong, including how he was back in book 1 is, like you said, hilarious. Not only does that just completely undermine his redemption arc, something that Zuko fans claim to love and swear up and down is the greatest redemption arc in TV history (spoiler alert: it's not) the way how they demonize Aang and try to say that he was a creepy possessive rapist just so that they can uplift Zutara as being this perfect ship is ridiculous. I seriously think that they just watched a completely different show from the rest of us lmao. And same, I also like Zutara. I don't have any issues with the ship whatsoever, but the vast majority of the shippers just get on my last nerves with their horrible takes😭. Not to mention that they act as if they are the only ones who understands Zuko and Katara, when really all they understand is two oc's who are committing identity fraud. Not liking Maiko or Kataang is fine, but you don't have to make up completely batshit reasons to justify hating them.
You're right, they do have a condescending attitude. They're on this high horse because they see shipping Zutara as being superior and smarter than anyone else in the fandom, which is honestly pretty pathetic. Imagine feeling that way because you ship a non canon couple. Get a life and get over yourself.

i have to admit but thinking of Katara's desire for vengeance in The Southern Raiders as 'letting her be who she really is', I think that's a deeply strange take that sort of requires ignoring most of her actual character (since this also seems to be done pretty prominently by fic writers who also tend to use Katara as a self-insert of sorts, altering her canonical personality and ethics in favor of their own). A big part of The Southern Raiders is explicitly how much her intentions and actions are not things she normally does or thinks; from her bitter cruelty towards Sokka ("You didn't love her as much as I did"), her willingness to use bloodbending on enemies when learning it was such a traumatic and deeply horrifying experience for her (and quite possibly seen as a corruption or defilement of what her waterbending means to her), and her almost killing the man she's after
a key part of Katara's character that I think doesn't get much attention in fandom is her spirituality. Its a character detail mostly expressed in subtle things, rather than something she discusses frequently, but it informs a huge part of her character that produces a spiritual set of perspectives between herself, Aang, Iroh and Toph, which also neatly gives an elemental circle of sorts. All of them have spiritual perspectives and value correct action over the purely pragmatic or 'just whatever get things done sooner'.
as an aside Toph doesn't get this noted as much, but she approaches things from a more spiritual perspective than is generally shown in the Earth Kingdom, resonating with the spiritual and experience aspects of her bending, and considering how she is eager to abandon a wealthy life for a free one (and doesn't seem to particularly like exploiting her family connections unless she really has to), it does point towards a happy life for her being one where she just goes off to vibe in the great swamp with the Foggy Swamp tribe.
But Katara and spirituality. This heavily informs her choices, and a particularly important example of this is in The Avatar State; she is very notably the one most uncomfortable with the idea of weaponizing the Avatar State, trying to convince Aang not to go through with it, because it seems wrong, and that the proper way to do it is to learn the elements in the proper cycle. This is significant in light of General Fong's entire idea here is to defeat Ozai ASAP with the power of the Avatar State, and Katara insists that its wrong to go against the proper order of how the Avatar is supposed to do it.
She is all but explicitly stated to be the deuteragonist of the setting, and leans hardest on a spiritual perspective; arguably even more than Aang, as she's the one who brings these ideas up the most. While Aang's spirituality is ultimately a very central part of his character's identity, spirituality and proper action are the entire road Katara's own decisions move on.
This is where The Painted Lady becomes relevant; I think that episode IS important in, for hypothetical situations for Katara joining the Royal Family of the Fire Nation or otherwise taking up an important position of power within their nation would actually be seen by the common people of the Fire Nation. Namely, that even though they're explicitly afraid of the FN military and resent the pollution of their home, they still immediately turn on Katara the moment they discover she's from the Water Tribe. However, that's not the bit I think matters for this particular thought.
Katara, despite having every reason to hate the Fire Nation's people, sidetracks their mission and goes to some lengths to help out this random town of people she all but certainly knows wouldn't return the favor; she takes on the role of a spirit, helps them get food, spending at LEAST a notable number of days protecting them and reawakening their spiritual hopes, ultimately doing a bit of Werewolf The Apocalypse style heroically eco-smashing against the polluting factory alongside the Avatar (often suggested to basically be the world itself in human form, which is an interesting point in this context; the incarnation of peace, light and harmony greatly values her input and listens to her encouragement).
One thing I don't see a lot of people talking about in this episode is Katara makes a specific statement that I think is a LOT more important than it seems, and it underscores her character, arguably the single most defining single line from her: "I will NEVER turn my back on someone who needs me!"
Their world is, in part, in the situation it is because of ruthless and cold, uncompromising pragmatism. The same sort of 'do whatever it takes to get it done' mentality expressed by Fong is what led Sozin to open the war with the genocide of a civilization of pacifist monks, begin conquering the Earth Kingdom with the firm boot-on-throat of oppression, and systematically bleed out her own people until there's little left of them but a tiny village with most of their Bending capability lost, and their practices forgotten because almost all the people who knew anything about it are gone, literally or metaphorically. Katara completely opposes that sort of mentality.
This is what makes The Southern Raiders significant; not that it lets her revel in who she truly is, but by the fact that her more deliberately cruel and vindictive actions in this episode are deeply atypical of her character; her viciously lashing out at her brother in a way she knows hurts him, weaponizing the power of bloodbending and deliberately trying to kill someone outside the heat of battle are all things more or less opposite of what she normally does.
I think that's likely the point here; driven by loss, her guilt for feeling like its her fault her mother died in front of her, resentment and grief towards the Fire Nation's atrocities that she directs at others around her and most especially Zuko as a living personification of the Fire Nation (and amplified by her anger at his betrayal of them and the world itself in the catacombs below Ba Sing Se), she does the sort of things she would normally fight against.
This is part of how she ends the episode in a gloomy state. While there's a highlight in how she lets go of her resentment towards Zuko in particular and lets her view of him as the FN in miniature fade away, there's no real release of tension, no real answer for her, just the awareness that she couldn't kill Yon Rha because it felt wrong to her, even as much as she hated him and herself and wanted to make him pay for what he did. It wouldn't have made her feel better, even if she had; the dead remain dead, and dealing vengeance is unlikely to make that pain any less miserable.
There's just resentment and grief that just... stays. No matter how much blood you spill trying to give it an escape, it'll stay there. There isn't a relief from it.
To paraphrase Immortal Hulk, it sounds a lot like the implicit idea here is that killing Yon Rha would have hurt who Katara is, and she knows it and why in the end she won't stain herself with someone so... empty. The episode leans pretty heavily into horror and discomfort in the wake of what she does, both from herself and those around her, which i think illustrates the point that this isn't Katara freeing herself, this is her letting the sort of things she hates and fights most than anything in the world make her decisions, to her own disgust and shame.
And in the end, revenge wouldn't really have done much either way. The grief remains, and a world scarred by a hundred years of loss where the only real thing you can do is try to rebuild and live with the grief.

Zutarians adultifying Katara and thinking that's "empowerment" (and also outright lying) yet again: https://www.tumblr.com/longing-for-rain/760214836385824768/just-something-i-felt-you-should-know-about-five
The one and only thing I agreed is that at some point Katara is drawn with more, ahem, "developed" body. This started in Book 3, and... I honestly always concidered it to be the bad thing. Not because I'm a prude (although maybe I am), but because I thought the whole deal of main characters were that they are children. They are kids. Of course, a girl at fourteen can have curves - or not have it - the girls are all different, in the end, both of these cases are normal. But Katara is a drawn character, she looks the way the creators want her to look. And the thing that they drew her "pronounced breasts" and "wider hips" never sat right with me, it always irked me. It doesn't look empowering to me, it looks like sexualization, combined with the fact that in Book 3 she is always drawn with partly or completely loose hair, which is not good for battle at all, but looks more aestetically appealing (but that's only my point of view). I prefer her Book 1 and 2 designs any time.
What also irks me is zutarians obsession with "hot, sexy, horny yet naive Katara plus sexy experienced Zuko, the only man who can give her intense sexual pleasure she craves so much" idea. No wonder they cheer when Katara looks older and drool over her "revealing" Fire Nation outfit, it all aligns with their fantasies.
Also, the choise of proof screenshots is hilarious. Three of them are drawn by one studio, the top right one and the final one - by the other. "Wider" or "narrower" eyes are just the result of different drawing styles. For example - the same studio that pictured Katara as "honestly creepy, like a babydoll" draws her in the scenes with Zuko:
https://s3.us-west-1.wasabisys.com/cap-that.com/tv/avatar/109/images/avatar-the-last-airbender1x09_1138.jpg https://s3.us-west-1.wasabisys.com/cap-that.com/tv/avatar/220/images/avatar-the-last-airbender2x20_0904.jpg https://s3.us-west-1.wasabisys.com/cap-that.com/tv/avatar/321/images/avatar3x21_0391.jpg https://www.cap-that.com/avatar/321/index.php?image=avatar3x21_0413.jpg
The necklace scene, the catacombs, the battle against Azula. Same baby face with big eyes. And, dare I mention, in first two seasons her breasts are only slightly hinted at, which doesn't stop zutarians from sexualizing these scenes.
The lenghs they'll go to justify their sexual fantasies... Ew.
I'm gonna be real, Katara wasn't really sexualized by the show. I can only think of two scenes in which I got any kind of fanservice vibe from it (both included her bathing in a waterfall). People are just weird about girls, especially non-white girls, going through puberty, and zutarians in particular want to adultify Katara no matter what to go "See? She's too old for Aang, but not too young for Zuko, even though the age gap is the same!"
Acknowledging "Girls have breasts" is not the same as drawing her in a sexy way, much like not every scene of male characters firebending without shirts on was sexualization. The hair down also doesn't strike me as trying to make her look desirable, just a little bit older - the passage of time is not sexual.
For fucks sake, even a scene like Sokka clearly getting ready to "have fun" with Suki wasn't anything that would be inappropriate for children to see and it's just acknowledging the basic fact of "Sometimes teenagers wanna do more than kiss each other."
If you want to see the characters be sexualized, look at the Fire Nation teens, especially Ty Lee and Zuko - and I'm okay with that because they're not real teens. They're lines in a piece of paper. No minor is being exploited or put in an inappropriate situation, and considering Nickelodeon has a history of sexualizing REAL children in the live action shows, I just don't care that Avatar let Ty Lee wear a bikini or made Zuko attract a bunch of girls by dramatically taking off his shirt at the beach. They're not being harmed, just like no real child was harmed when Ozai disfigured his own son.
These characters age matters when it comes to understanding their reasonings and the ocasional "immature/naive" reaction, and nothing else. And once again, the show didn't really do anything too crazy.
