Do you think Sirius had a favorite cousin in canon? If so, who?

We are told it's Andromeda, I'd have liked proof or more mention of it, of why. Was it just because she married a muggleborn? I mean that is an implication she was more open minded than her family. That being said... I go with Bellatrix. I can see them with being similar gravitate to each other. I love picturing her being a lil devious one teaching Sirius all sorts of spells, showing him pranks she did. But rarely ever getting caught. Despite her leaning into pureblood views, I also see her have her own sort of rebellion, esp as a woman who doesn't settle back, she gets in the middle of things. I can see Sirius admiring that about her even if won't admit it. (Of course Andy rebelled too but I think it wasn't the same, different type of rebellion.) This is all hc, no one come at me. Hahahah, have to add disclaimers to everything. XD I build my hcs around canon but I honestly love Bellatrix so I favour hcs that have her in it. Sorry, Andy.

hahahah what i love about that finn behaviour is that it could suggest he is truly more at ease around male energy, and does that mean he is more attracted to women (awkward around them as he likes them) or does it mean he is comfortable in male presence and would prefer to be in a male presence and be tended to and touched and held by men??

we can never know as will and mike themselves are such great examples of opposites ways of dealing with same sex attraction! we have steady quiet will, never blustering and flustered, who avoids men irl. and we have mike who is an absolute mess and leans into eddie's every touch! fascinating!

Definitely validity here re: the energy in situations we are observing with these older men. It's not purely "oh not this man is hot" even though, if he truly is queer, there's a level there. It's a pretty universal experience for a younger person to want the validation and attention and approval of someone older, no matter gender or sexuality. But, the specific ways that I personally witnessed in these interviews in particular? It has a very underlying subtext that reads beyond just wanting approval from an older peer. The specific way that Finn laughs is just... so familiar. "Is that just his personality" some will argue and well, if that's just a part of his personality, well then his personality has the vibes we're discussing, right? It's entwined. The way he laughs a little too hard at times, the way he touches these guys, the looking immediately to them when he makes a comment. It is kind of safe, because you really can play it off as admiration and trying to be on the same level with these older men. A straight eye probably won't clock it as flirting, that's just an eager kid vying for approval. But the approval is intrinsically needed because it's caught up in wanting them to respect you and consider you an equal and you also feel that attraction, your mind wants to entertain the thought. The brain is firing off in many directions. Been there, babe. The way he carries himself in these interviews just... doesn't feel very straight. "Can't a man be secure in himself and be comfortable expressing..." - sure! But we're calling what we see. I see flirtation underneath several other layers of veneer.

Maybe he doesn't even realize he's doing it. I doubt his anxious ass is re-watching his interviews, but I wonder what he'd think of himself if he watched it back. Cannot even imagine. It's not like he's doing anything embarrassing, but the energy there. Oh, Finn. It's a valid read, for sure. There's got to be a reason so many of us in certain parts of the fandom get a queer read on him, and it cannot be from clothing or physical appearance because I'm gonna be honest - those aren't the biggest tells in his case. That isn't enough for me. Behavior and actions and spoken words are more indicative of this sort of thing.

And the first point - it's another interesting idea. I'll admit I don't know Finn's personal life toooo deeply. I like Finn as a person and I like following his career - I've never been one who really paid attention to his relationships with people outside of the ST cast other than random little things I learned from scrolling tumblr. I'm slightly familiar with his IT days, but that was little boyhood and I'm not interesting in analyzing that too deeply. So is he in a circle of mostly male friendships as the implication? No idea, so I don't know if my insight is useful for him in particular.

There's definitely truths to sexuality and who you surround yourself with and there's also those who desire to fight against stereotype and gender roles, even unconsciously. Some straight men absolutely cannot be friends with women, a societal failing of them. Others have zero problem. I love the women in my life, and I know there's a stereotype that gay men get along better and surround themselves with women and I get that, but I also don't? My circle is pretty diverse. Some of my closest friends are straight guys and it's totally not any different than any other person's friendship. Not sure how great I am at analyzing this topic just because sometimes I get nervous making these grand generalizations!

I think for Mike and Will in the show however, since this is a show and easier to analyze than real life people - there is a pretty pointed connotation made when it comes to their friendships. There have been so many good analyses of Mike and his "boys only" moments. His uncomfortableness with women. He really seems to fall into a comfort level with the guys in his life. Which could simply be a story-telling hint on sexuality stuff rather than a commentary of friendships, but it can be twofold. Will certainly showcases a lack of female friendships and some criticize him for it, but he's also just a young boy when he says these things? "Girls play video games?" Etc. But that's also the classic 80s trope of boys vs. girls, nerds vs. heteronormative society, and then toss two gay kids into the mix. There's so many layers to consider. It's complicated. I'm going in circles here but both of these questions were really interesting to ponder. Will continue to do so but I'm gonna stop typing at this point haha.

Thoughts on chest hair?

I dated a guy for a while who shaved it, and it definitely made me appreciate guys who just left it alone, so yeah, I like it! And I think I like it more as I get older tbh.

I've actually kinda been getting whiplash lately in terms of chest hair, which is not a sentence I ever thought I'd type, hahaha, but it's because my viewing at the moment has been penduluming between watching Siesta Key with a friend, where the guys are so waxed and groomed they look like they've been popped out of plastic, and being in the 70s and 80s for @theoscarsproject, which was a couple of decades that uh, embraced chest hair to put it mildly, haha.

It's actually been making me really fascinated with how sexless blockbusters are these days (70s and 80s blockbusters are horny!!) and the trickle down effect that that has on male body image and sexuality in general. I think there's a straightforward link to be made between action stars, particularly in the MCU, shaping the way certain men want to look, and I think there are a lot of implications with that which I won't get into here, but I will say that I'm always curious about the chasteness of those movies these days and about what that triggers subconsciously in terms of sex appeal.

Hell, not just sex appeal, but masculinity and sexuality and body image, because y'know, that overpolished, overgroomed sort of look is really designed to pander to the male gaze, not the female gaze. It's almost a twisted up sort of Nietzsche Übermensch ideal that feeds off a lot of men's insecurities and into a culture of big, alpha male pack approval.

Men like to think these sorts of looks are for women, but really they're for other men.

It reminds me of a guy I used to work with about six years ago. We were both working at an arthouse cinema, but he had a second job as a stripper and he would often be getting ready for the latter as I was locking up the projectors. We'd end up talking a lot about body image while we did, and he was someone who definitely felt the pressure to look a certain way, and took steroids to do so, and even he acknowledged that he cared more about what his brothers and male friends thought he looked like than his girlfriend or the women he performed for, which was pretty fascinating to me.

The patriarchy! A prison for us all!

Anyway, that was a huge tangent, hahahah. Yes, I like chest hair, but I'm lowkey fascinated by the men who don't.

Wen Kexing, Scorpion King and Gu-Xiang raised together in ghost valley.

This lovely user had produced a VERY interesting Au that I couldn't help myself but make a lil drabble/one shot on it. @naniya27 I hope you like it! I had fun playing around with Xi'er hahahah. (one shot under the cut)

Zhou Zishu didn't know if he should gape in surprise or tilt his head in confusion at the sight of Wen Kexing and a VERY familiar man clad in black conversing by their table. He had only stood up to order himself some more wine and all of the sudden there was an assassin sitting beside Wen Kexing, more so, this assassin wasn't even trying to kill him.

"Where have you been? I've been looking all over for you-" The man whined.

"I told you I will be "around" little brat, didn't A-Xiang inform you of my whereabouts?" Wen Kexing retorted, his carefree smile widened as he tilted his head back to drink his beverage as if this assassin was not in the least bit dangerous.  "Da-ge, you know I would be busy, did you purposely send me away to have your little adventures?" The man pouted, POUTED, as though he was a little brother feigning hurt just to gain favor from his older brother.

'Have I missed something here?' Zhou Zishu internally blanched, approaching their table slowly.

When the man's eyes landed on to him all the traces of playfulness disappeared and a hard mask was set in place. The man straightened in his seat like a proper gentleman with his eyes cold and observant. Zhou Zishu internally shivered, The man looked every bit like he was once did back when he was still serving the prince.

"Ah! A-Xu, come come, you took too long" Wen Kexing whined pettily which gained a slightly shocked but nonetheless passive expression from his companion. "I was gone for 5 minutes Lao Wen-"

"Five minutes too long, a-xu don't deprived me of your beauty" His soulmate winked.

The scandalized look on the scorpion's face ALMOST made Zhou Zishu want to play along with his fan man's antics, but his mind was still too muddled to comprehend just WHY this man was even here.

"Lao Wen, i don't think you need me here if you got a companion?" Zhou Zishu challenged, the man's eyebrows twitched. Either from annoyance or anger he didn't know. "Ah, my bad, A-Xu this is Xie Wang, Xi-er say hello to my beautiful A-Xu" Again, Wen Kexing had that silly sparkling look in his eyes that quiet frankly Zishu decided he would never tire from. "Wen Gongzi, I was not aware you harbored stowaways in your journey" Zishu wanted to snort at that. as if he had not seen the way this "Xi-er" acted while he was not there.

"I know who he is Lao Wen, did not know the Ghost valley is familiar with the Scorpion" Zhou Zishu tilted his head, sitting down across from Wen Kexing. Xi-er looked ready to retort a smartass reply, probably something Wen Kexing had taught himself when the older man beat him to it.

"Ayiah, the ghost valley and Scorpions had always been allies A-Xu, is it not a common knowledge?" he asked.

Zishu only shrugged his shoulder. being an ex-assassin he could always read people based on their body language, and though the man in front of him was of similar occupation, Zishu could not help but chuckle at the way Xi-er's knee slowly moved to touch Wen Kexing's in a protective manner ,or how his jaw flexed slightly indicating that he was grinding his teeth behind his mouth, the piercing eyes never left him for a moment as if anticipating Zishu's attack at anytime. truth be told he looked about ready to drive Zishu away himself.

"Ah that reminds me, I seemed to have forgotten to buy some herbs too take back to the manor, eh A-xu i'll be back in a bit" He smiled warmly before standing up to leave. Zishu knows it's bullshit, Lao Wen would never run off to "buy" something not unless he asked for money first, so Zishu figured that this was his chance to get to know this person, whatever Lao Wen had in mind anyway.

"So...Leader Zhou, we meet again" Xi-'er smiled politely, though the ex assassin knew that that was FAR from a friendly one, more like a challenge. "Yes, after you abducted Chengling" he fired back, smile as taxing. Xie'er ,in a moment of weakness, groaned "Please, don't remind me, i already got an earful from Da'ge about that, I don't want to hear the same from you"

Zishu raised his eyebrow in surprise and confusion, okay so he was not hallucinating then. this scorpion DID call Lao Wen "Da ge"

"Pardon?" said Zishu.

"How was I supposed to know that Zhang boy was your ward and you were with Da ge anyway? he hadn't contacted me ever since he got out of the valley" he pouted...again. "Besides, I already said sorry to him" he reasoned again. Zishu smirked at that "So you said sorry to him and not me or Chengling?"

"Hell no, I don't even know you. and why are you even sticking to Da'ge anyway? this wasn't even in his plan" Xie'er rolled his eyes so far back he was sure it would pop out. The ex- assassin only laughed at that. No, Lao Wen did NOT anticipate their meeting nor did Zishu himself, but he'd be damned if he was the one sticking to Wen Kexing. that fan wielding man was the one who clung to him in the first place.

Just before he could retort Chengling arrived just in time to See Xi-er slightly leaned forward at the table as if he was about to attack Zishu. "Chengling" the swordsman started, but Chengling was fast to run to his side and position himself just behind Zhou Zishu. Xie'er was not pleased. "Little idiot, I thought you went off to buy more supplies for-"

"I was! but Shishu told me to come back here and that he would handle it himself"

'Lao Wen I swear to-'

"Shishu? hah, who are you calling shishu? my Da'ge would never let anyone call him that" Zi'er

"Your Da'ge, definetly did" Zishu almost could not contain his laugh at the scorpion King's scandalized and shocked expression. "This is ridiculous" the scorpion King stood up with al the gracehe could muster in anger "I'm going to find him and set this right" he harrumped, swishing his robes as he disappeared out the tavern.

Chengling, who was still slightly cowering behind him stuttered. "Sh-Shifu, wasn't tha-"

"Yes, don't worry i'll talk to your Shishu about this, come on. Let's go and finish getting those herbs before we go home"

"Lao Wen"

"Hmmn?" Wen Kexing hummed, stirring a pot of hot steamed vegetables with chicken soup simmering by the side. "Xie'er was...something" at the mention of his brother Kexing stopped for a second before continuing his minstrations. as if reading Zishu's mind on wanting a clearer explanation, Wen Kexing caved "I found him when I was still in ghost valley. he was one of the children who had been abducted and brought to us" the taller man swallowed hard, clearly struggling, though his face showed little emotion.

"He almost died, luckily I got to him in time and managed to save him, hiding him away was the hardest part. it took a while before he trusted me but once he did I found that I could not turn him away"

Zhou Zishu sighed, with a burst of bravery he walked over to his Zhiji and wrapped his hands around his waist, his head came to rest on Lao Wen's shoulder. "He lived with me for several years,and then Gu-xiang appeared. We barely managed to save her but when Xie'er promised ties with the Scorpion to the former Ghost valley chief he let her go, when I became chief I finally let him go back to his home where he can see his parents again" Wen Kexing stopped, longer this time. His hand shook as he removed the pots from the fire to prevent them from burning, he turned to Zhou Zishu, eyes full of guilt and sorrow.

"But...it was too late, his parents had been killed and with no one to take the title Xi'er had to assume the role and had to band together the scorpions that we know today. He was only 17 that time A-Xu, it took years before he could properly  get a hold of the others and most of the time I wasn't even there to help him. I still had Gu-Xiang to raise and it wasn't time for me to emerge from the valley. He had to come to me multiple times-"

Wen Kexing faltered. Zishu figure that was enough, he didn't think Lao Wen would actually tell him that much. The shorter man steadily turned his soulmate to face him, his eyes soft and understanding as he slowly leaned in, just enough to let Lao Wen back out if he so wanted. but the other man stayed in place. He finally rest his forehead against Lao Wen's. in an instant, his partner loosened up, hand began to encircle around his waist as Zishu moved closer, feeling their noses touch.

"Lao Wen, you did great"

At that high praise and implication, Wen Kexing could not help but to shed tears of relief and gratefulness. Zishu understood, Zishu accepted. and most of all Zhou Zishu stayed.

Bonus: Timeline.

Wen Kexing was around 7 or 8 when he was brought in to Ghost valley. so let's say he was 7.

Xie'er came to ghost valley when he was 8 years old making Wen Kexing 15.

Gu-xiang came to valley when she was 7 making Wen Kexing 18 and Xi'er 11.

Wen Kexing was 20 when he took over, Xie'er now 17 years old and given free reign over the scorpions and Gu xiang 9.

That's cool you don't ever have to hurry a response. We all got lives. Unfortunately I've never had the attention span or commitment for blogs and such. I can only bug someone else's w/my thoughts. XP I like that you always give great replies and fics. Oh gosh those 2 fics were awesome and I could totally see them being connected. Poor RBC being in such a scary situation. Rather ironic Cancer cell likes her being weak when in fact a much weaker cell would have totally broke and been killed by-

The fact even through her terror and despair she can still keep her wits and put on a strong loving face (no matter how disturbed she really feels) lends to her toughness and intuitiveness. If she's going to make it she has to You added even more angst for RBC implying he was offing other rbcs just to feed her. The worst was his rewarding her good behaviour with his presence. Cuddles is probably the last thing her nerves need. That is such a twisted image of him laying in her lap and-

3 snuggling against her stomach and enjoy her brushing his hair. His questions and actions seem so innocent. But RBC is so automatic/hurried w/her affection when he points out she's ignoring him. You just know she's already suffered painful consequences for not tending to him fast/good enough. It's even worse when CC makes it clear he knows she's faking it and even enjoys it. That's honestly my favorite part of his characterization w/her here. He's not fooled by her fakeness. Which makes -

4 sense because CC knows how to fool others like a champ until he wants to be known or until someone as smart as NK (who is considered for more perceptive then most others and can't be fooled) outs him. But he doesn't care. He doesn't need her to be genuine. He just needs her to bend to his will and he's happy. He's Cancer and he takes not gives. Good thing he only wants to be pampered w/some snuggles. I think if he wanted a kiss on the cheek or forehead after witnessing a Macrophage do the -

5 same to a platelet she'd probably be so stiff she might pass out from thinking she messed up. CC probably made her pamper him while he talked about his thoughts and wanted her to tell him about herself and WBC. Such a peaceful yet unnerving scene. Xp Poor RBC, CC probably got addicted to touching her and barely kept his paws off her. Oh that 4989+1146 epilogue of sorts fic. RBC thinks she got herself into this mess by talking to the wrong cell. But 1146 knows CC went after her only because of-

6 him. 1146 wants to protect all cells of the body and the one he possibly cares most about was put into danger because of him. All because he showed a little respect to CC and got branded as a 'friend'. Even w/o stating it you know he'd be beyond devastated if she was killed traumatized because of her connection to him alone. He's definitely going to be way overprotective of her emotional state. Him of all cells breaking down in years was a gut punch. Hope he stops blaming himself. D =

Thanks for your kind words concerning my ficlet/drabble thing. I don't think I’ve ever written Cancer in an actual fic before, so that was really encouraging to read your kind words! They’re really great for motivation, which means more fics and analyses! :D

I think of the three drabbles that I posted earlier, the interaction between 1146 and 4989 was my favorite to write. Their relationship is so pure and so brotherly, they definitely support each other. Usually, I think it would be the other way around. My head canon is that 4989 can be  quite the crybaby (he’s the actual baby of the squad in my hc, hahahah!) and it would usually fall to the others to care for him. 1146 being one of the main ones for support. However, it’s a nice change in role reversal considering how guilty and beaten down 1146 has become due to his indirect involvement with 3803′s kidnapping and subsequent abuse/torture/manipulation. 

My next favorite has got to be when Cancer has 3803 directly under his control and he’s sitting on her lip. I didn’t think about the implications about him killing the RBCs for the nutrients (I figured he would just ambush and steal the produce), but, my gosh, you really dig for opportunities for more angst and horror. It makes me terrified for 3803 because she definitely doesn’t deserve what’s happening to her. It’s a wonder that she still has her wits about her and that she hasn’t reached the point where she hates Cancer. At that point in the drabble, she's definitely scared, but there’s a sense of pity in her actions. She acquiesces to his demands like a tired mother to a spoiled infant. 

Hmm, if I were to write a continuation, do you think that 3803 would fight back/escape, or weather the storm?

Hey! I’m the anon who was catching up on MCU movies and asked you questions? (Clint/BW etc). So I finally watched Endgame and I'm devastated. I admit that I don’t have the same relationship with Tony the way you MCU and RDJ fans have since 2008, but I'm very sad. I understand the decision to kill him because he was the only hero who would never have been able to walk away from saving people. So unless RDJ was to be eternally chained to MCU (which I don’t wish for him), it would have (1/4)

been unnatural to let him live and “disappear”. He is not Captain America. Lmao, what a Captain he is. I do have some questions though. When the others visited Tony at his farm, I got the implication that it was the first time they visited him? That’s horrible. They remember him only when they need him. Also shouldn’t Bruce know better about scientific experimentation? The whole sequence with BW, CA, Prof Hulk and Scott experimenting with that tech was weird. There was no proper procedure (2/4)

or anything. I didn’t actually mind BW’s fate. All her eye-rolling at the beginning irked me and her behaviour in CACW (betraying Tony) was very ew. I would have liked to see more of Nebula than BW. Also, I wish they treated Thor’s depression more seriously. They had the chance to tackle a serious issue and they mucked it up. WTF was up with CA’s storyline? That was such a shit way to end the movie. I have never been a fan of CA and his story but that ending was quite pathetic. (3/4)

They nullified the only sacrifice he ever made in his life and flipped the bird at the concept of “moving on”. Did his story make sense to you? I know you ship CA and Tony together. All in all, I prefer IW to Endgame. I'm glad I was right in liking Tony Stark from the beginning. Poor Peter, what a trauma. Should've known when they made Tony his father figure. It’s less facts and more your opinion I’m asking this time. Sorry about that but also thanks in advance!! I think I'm done with MCU. (4/4)

i think it doesn’t matter how long you’ve been attached to the character of tony stark. the moment you’re invested in him even if your journey with him was only for a few months, his story really resonates with you and makes you really emotional in ways you’d never imagined. so i understand how devastated you must feel because i felt the exact same way. i cried each time i watched endgame in theatres and i still can’t rewatch That Scene without being incredibly upset. but like you said, the decision made sense and i’ve come to terms with it. it’s still always going to be something that makes me sad though.

anyway, to your questions.

1. i got the same feeling that it was the first time they visited. for steve, at least. i think natasha probably had already visited a couple times since she and tony do nod at each other and acknowledge their presence without it being frosty and awkward. but for steve, yeah, i think it was his first time seeing tony. maybe it’s because he didn’t know how to face tony anymore after what happened five years ago, but it did rub me the wrong way too.

2. that whole sequence with bruce and the others testing out time travel was just. there’s a whole post about it somewhere here that explains it perfectly how wrong it was. like you said, bruce is a scientist and he should know how dangerous scientific experimentation can be. and it really just seemed like they were winging it and had no contingency plan for what they would do if they fucked up entirely. 99% of that scene was played for laughs and when it’s over and you really think about it, you do realize how shitty it would have been if they’d accidentally killed scott via quantum tunnel.

3. i agree, they should have handled thor’s storyline better. he was facing some very real problems and the way hemsworth played him was beautiful. but the fact that he was constantly the butt of everyone’s jokes was just so awful. i hate that they made rhodey say all of those mean things bc that was just wildly out of character when it’s always been shown that he’s caring and considerate of his friends. it’s terrible that they showed thor and frigga having such a tender mother/son moment only to ruin it at the end by having her tell him to eat a salad. the only people who treated him the way he deserved were bruce and tony, imo.

4. haha. hahahah. hahahahah. god no i did not enjoy steve’s storyline and tbh this movie really soured his character for me and i refuse to acknowledge it. like you said, they nullified his only sacrifice by having him go back to the past and get a do-over in life. nothing about his motivations made any god damn sense. the fact that he was looking at a picture of peggy, who’d died years ago, just three weeks after his two best friends turned to dust is just mind boggling. he’s talking about losing her at a therapy session for people who’d lost their loved ones in the decimation. just. he literally forgot bucky, sam, and wanda even existed. i didn’t think his ending was romantic or in character but. whatever. i literally only ship steve and tony as long as we forget endgame happened (bc truly endgame was a pepperony event). anyway, endgame steve whomst?

i agree though, i thought iw was better than endgame. it felt like endgame left a lot of loose ends and didn’t address things that were brought up previously in the franchise. it’s an amazing film to witness in theatres but when you really think about it, there are a ton of questions that you never get any answers to.

anyway, if you’re a tony fan i do think you should check out ffh before you quit the mcu completely. i wasn’t going to watch it at first, but it shows how important tony is to the universe and also to peter. it’ll wrap up phase 3 completely and give some sort of closure for the tony fans. kind of.

Instead, inside the box were quite a few heart-shaped fudge brownies; they were sandwiched with raspberry buttercream icing, complete with white powdered sugar coating the outside. And, because he was exceptionally weird about them, a protein shake was festively wrapped with a red ribbon.

The gift and thought behind it was bad enough, but the offer that followed— Yeah, there’s no doubt... She meant it wholeheartedly. She’s clearly nervous— after all, who wouldn’t be nervous asking a top tier Servant like him to accept a contract? She’s worried he might laugh it off, or that he’d fixate on the issues she herself already pointed out...

     But above all else, he wants to ask if she is okay with that. It’s an odd thing to ask the person making the offer— yet Rider is acutely aware of her Servant situation. She has vivid memories of one, hazy ones of two others... and apparently— one from a forgotten path. He wants to ask if she would be better off waiting for any one of her proper warriors and comrades... But that wouldn’t really accomplish much, would it? Hakuno has asked herself those questions over and over again— deliberating over the implications before reaching this moment. ... It would be a bit insulting to make her doubt herself some more, wouldn’t it?

          ”— Heh...! Hahahah—! A challenge, eh? You already know me so well— picking the right words for such an important question!” His chuckle and grin, full of confidence to reassure Hakuno of his response— the answer to her contract. “Ahh, well... I’ve gotten a glimpse of what your standards are like, so— If you think a guy like me can reach those heights, who am I to say no?“

     His glowing sincerity lingers with his aura, but his eyes slowly narrow— his tone now ready to properly convey his feelings on this chance.

          ”... I won’t fail you a second time— Master.”

          I’ll die as many times as it takes, so long as it means you can use my corpse to keep walking forward to your future.

The Grinch

This week, I have no option for inputting audio. I'm sure this was some attempt to streamline the features in only the best of intentions that went horribly awry. Or, they don't know their hands from their asses. either/or AND OF COURSE THE SHINY NEW ALTERNATIVE IS DOWN. Bah. Naturally We could... watch with subtitles? That's no fun. Durarara

One of the first few anime I watched. I adored how the intricate stories were intertwined with others; how a bystander in one scene could be a hero or a villain in another. A choice that one makes can easily have devestaring consequences. And of course, the mastermind himself: Orihara Izaya.

Death Note

Oldie, yes. Overrated, probably. Completely worth watching and still able to discuss a decade after completion? Along with a few movies, musical adaptations, and a live action remake? Oh, yes!

Favorite characters are Near and Misa. The former for his cool nature that resembles L’s, but ultimately serves as a better allegory for Justice because he doesn’t find Kira for fun. No, he captures and probably would have him imprisoned for life because it’s his duty as L’s successor. He’s also heavily under-appreciated by the fandom. The latter for her adaptability and unpredictability in situations. Did you guys watch the Yorsuba arc? The girl was calculating how cute she was going to be. Plus, she’s not mentally well (her parents were murdered in front of her), but she still managed to handle herself SO WELL during her time as a prisoner under L’s inhuman methods to seek out the Second Kira. Again, she’s under-appreciated.

Death Parade

Brilliant idea. Has a possible tie in to Death Note. The opening was laughably so misleading!

There are some flaws, like plot holes and unfinished storylines, but it held up pretty well. We learned about the characters through how they interact with one another—especially when put under pressure. The Arbiters are amazing in that they can’t question the system, and yet, in the end, Decim tries to understand and formulate how Chiyuki is going to be finally put to rest.

If nothing else, just watch for the skating scene and the opening sequence.

Cells at Work (Hataraku Saibou)

How could I not add this show??? I’m not that great science, but I have been intimately acquainted with how the body works (I’m frankly disappointed no one has called 1146 a granulocyte yet and we haven’t seen any neurons in the manga 😞). Also...3803 is basically me: I’m terrible at directions, I’m continuously learning new things because I moved away, and the way she met 1146...is kind of how I met my best friend, hehehe.

That said, I’m really in love with this anime/manga fandom and hope to continue writing for it. (Insert self promotion: please read my fanfics on my main platform which is ffnet!)

Hetalia: Axis Powers

This show made me love geography and my country so much. It’s funny, it’s hilarious, and it’s so heartwarming how the fandom likes to make all sorts of fanmade stuff to expand on what Hima-papa gives us. (YES, IN THE YEAR OF OUR LORD 2018, I SHALL REFER TO HIMARYU-SENSEI AS HIMA-PAPA. FIGHT ME.)

Is Hetalia dead? I don’t know, but the fandom and one particular FanFiction by @cultureandseptember really helped me out a few years back.

Bungou Stray Dogs

I love literature, good looking animation, and smarmy little know-it-alls who like to play the fool. Hehehe, I’m planning on reading No Longer Human when I get the time. Does that mean Osamu Dazai is my favorite character? Well...

Can you blame me if I said yes? He’s so charming and enigmatic that you can’t help but love him. However, I think I really love him because I struggle with dark thoughts and suicidal ideation from time to time. I haven’t actively sought it out quite like he has in the past, but well... hehehe! I can also relate because he’s kind of like an outsider in the Agency due to his past—he’s different because he can’t actively cancel out your abilities, which always makes him a threat.

Anywhoozles, I’m still waiting to see the movie...Le sigh.

K Project

This. This is not the best anime out there. Seriously.

The animation gets wonky here and there, they do the women in here a huge disservice, and they put too much emphasis on how great Mikoto Suoh. Like, he’s great and all, but the dude has no effect on the story except for the last season.

With that said, I think the main selling point here isn’t the anime, but the side materials like the manga/novels. You get to appreciate the backstories of so many of the characters and you get to feel for them because some of them have suffered so much! (Read: Fushimi Saruhiko).

I think you can get the same amount of enjoyment if you stick to the novels/manga.

Favorite characters: Scepter 4 Alphabet Squad. They are the best boys. Also, Lieutenant Awashima Seri. And Fushimi Saruhiko. You know what? Just put down Blue Clan here. They’re all nerds and they enjoy it.

Also: Domyoiji Andy reminds me of U-4989 from CAW. So...

Violet Evergarden

Remember how I said that I liked literature? This entire anime is about the power of not only the written word, but of also the act of writing, sending, and receiving those words. The anime may be episodic in nature, but you can really connect with the character through her terrible backstory and really feel for her when she realizes that she needs to face her past. PTSD is real and I think the anime really handled the post war aspect of this torn down world really well.

I’m also a sucker for typewriters, steam punk, and characters that don’t really know how to function in society (but learn over the course of the story).

Watch this if you want feels...and get ready for episode ten.

Samurai Champloo

This takes place in feudal era Japan.

But there’s rapping.

And breakdancing.

And guys spraying paint everywhere.

Also, there’s a sunflower samurai we gotta look for???

Hahahah, while episodic in nature, this was a joy to watch. You never get to know the characters really well and when we reach our mission’s end, it seems to fall short, but it’s not about that. The journey is what makes this anime worth it simply because the characters interactions are rife with hilarity and all three mains balance each other out. There’s a fanfic out there that describes them in detail, but in a succinct manner that had me melting. Anyway, for those of you who have watched it, I sincerely hope that they meet again in the future.

(But, let’s be real. They probably didn’t).

Tokyo Mew Mew

Guys.

This isn’t a joke.

I have a soft spot for this anime because this was my first ever anime I watched where I realized that this was anime. This was like my gateway anime. Not Sailor Moon. Not Naruto.

Looking back on this, it wasn’t the best—it’s your typical monster of the week deal with some environmental activism involved but for what it’s worth...it’s good??? Like, even the 4Kids dub (DONT CRUCIFY ME) even added some songs that were really great??? Bree Sharp’s Don’t Wake Me Up was my jam??? It fit better than the original Japanese counterpart???

TMM also introduced me to shipping, FanFiction, and amvs. That’s right, without this little gem, I would be writing/writing/thinking about FanFiction. I probably wouldn’t have been an anime watcher without this magical girl anime from the early 2000s.

So, yeah. This anime will always have a place in my heart because without it, I probably wouldn’t have become the person I am today. Thank you, Tokyo Mew Mew.

(This was also the birth of my first OTP before I knew what OTPs were: Kisshu/Ichigo...although nowadays, people are calling them Quiche/Strawberry? Hehehe, there’s so many things wrong here, I only like interactions, not the implications. That’s why I’m completely okay with Aoyama/Ichigo being endgame—and they’re actually really cute in the sequel manga???)
