Silverborn was huge for people who are weird about familial and familial-adjacent relationships. Morrigan and Jupiter, for one. Morrigan and Jack. Morrigan and Ezra. Morrigan and the Darlings. Morrigan and Meredith. Meredith and Margot. Jack and Jupiter. Noelle and Gigi. Bertram and Morrigan. Bertram and Ornella. Bertram and Corvus. Bertram and Jupiter. Jupiter and Rosamund. Rinaldo and Vesta. Okay I'll be honest I forget the others but there's SO many crammed into the one book, I'm so happy about it :)

I like your interpretations of Scout's family (even though it is tragic.) Neither of Scout's parents really like him. (?)...that would kinda explain his "look at me!!" attitude. Feeling unwanted as a child messes people up big time.. He just wants to be liked. :o(
It messed him up real bad and I need people to talk about it please. He ain’t cocky just to be cocky fellas, he wants attention, and also to be liked with how much he really tries to impress others—like woman or the other mercs.
Scout’s family—his brothers and his Ma—either bullied relentlessly or neglected him. He knows his father abandoned him, and he holds a grudge against the man who made his Ma upset, and always comparing him to that man. But I think it hurts less when he never even met the guy as a kid. Didn’t get a chance to see why he left. Don’t get me wrong it probably still bugs him of course, but what can you do? He wasn’t even born yet, and all he knew were his brothers and mom at the time. It hurt more to him knowing that his Ma found him a nuisance more than anything, he loves her, adores her, but he knows it takes a lot for her to notice him or be proud of him if she’s being generous. He needs to earn her affection. Cuz otherwise she just genuinely doesn’t like him.
However, I would like to think Spy cares for scout. He doesn’t hate him. He finds him annoying, sure, sometimes he doesn’t like him—but it’s not to the point of where scout’s mother genuinely doesn’t like having him around her 24/7–Spy only doesn’t like him when Scout’s being an ass, or annoying.
And as much as spy tries not to show it much you can clearly tell he at least gives a shit for scout’s well being. Obviously when scout was dying spy wanted scout’s death to be happy. To make scout happy before he died so he wouldn’t die scared or confused or angry. He wanted to make it pleasant for him. It was the last thing he could do.
It’s also the little things I like, I’m talking little little things.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Spy carrying Scout when Spy himself is wounded in the leg. Someone pointed out that when the mercs are leaving after Administrator’s death, spy only leaves when Scout leaves, he’s there for scout and when scout’s ready to go, spy follows.
I could also mention the one where Scout broke his arms and was desperate for a ride to get his savings, and spy drove him. But technically it was likely cuz scout mentioned his mother being disappointed, which is why he helped. Still, I think that’s an honorable mention. (And also shows spy loves scout’s Ma, which I think we already know)
Not to mention Expiration date where spy spent that last of his three days helping scout get a date with miss Pauling when he was most likely just planning to stay inside his smoking room. And once again I cannot find the post that said this but there was this one where it pointed out spy’s expression to scout standing up for himself and saying “I’ll put this date on myself!”
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
How the post said that people thought spy was mocking him here with that smirk. But it could also be spy being secretly proud that scout was standing his ground. Somewhat earning the smirk spy gave him. Also also when scout was hosting the date with Miss Pauling, by himself, spy was still watching through the cameras to see if things were going okay. AND near the end spy encouraged scout to go talk with Miss Pauling when fighting the bread monster, focus on her and let the rest deal with it.
I’m just rambling with points on how spy cares for him, canonically. But I mean it. In short I think scout had a crappy childhood cuz his Ma wasn’t much of a good mother in terms of emotional parenting. She provided for him sure, but she never showed him emotional love that scout clearly needed and craved for. His brothers—although not much info is said about them—clearly fought a lot. Family fights were most likely often in the household—and although I believe scout is one to egg on fights since it’s hilarious to him, it would get so bad that scout would rather keep to himself and hope that the physical fights would end. It’s why I figure scout isn’t the biggest fan of the mercs yelling at one another (a hc) and gets uncomfortable, same goes for genuinely bad physical fights.
Spy abandoned him—which is the worst thing you can do, making your future child think you didn’t want them like that—and scout’s Ma before scout was even born I assume, didn’t raise him at all or meet him, just sorta ran for the hills.
But as much as I think about that I also think, personally, spy gave more to scout emotionally than his own mother did. He was actually proud of him. And that’s all scout really wanted.
All that aside, scout broke that cycle. He cares for his little scoutlings in comic 7 which makes me happy <:) good on ya Scout, we’re so proud of you.

Hey so I dont really do this, like ever, but I was made aware of this user on here, @/th3sh4rk, who is stealing and reposting art without credit. [Using tone tags here for those who need them and also for Marcus hymself, as it was stated he needs them.]
He's stealing art from users on tumblr, and off pinterest [or so he's claimed]
No, unless it's explicitly stated by the artist that it's free to use, it's not free to use /srs
No, you can't assume art you get off of PINTEREST is free to use, because that site is NOTORIOUS for art theft- unless you're going and doing extensive research to find the original artists, you are also stealing art. /srs
And I need to make this point because I've had my art/works stolen many times over my years as an artist, this sentence boils my blood: "Credit to the artists!"
This does nothing for the artists. It's useless and lazy, and it's NOT actual credit, IT DOES NOT COUNT AS CREDIT.
All that does is block the artists from deserved recognition and anyone who wants to see more of their artwork from finding them. /srs /beyond irritated
I'll move on to the artists Marcus stole from- and I cannot understand why he didn't just credit the artists bc if he knew you could find the artists on this platform, that sounds like he got the art directly from the source. Which just implies to me that Marcus didn't ask, because if he did, he would've credited the artists.

Luke Nukem - credit to @owenwilsonkisser
Amir - credit to @/kissthem-forme {I did find this user in the comments of this post, they didn't seem upset, so notifying them isn't necessary I think}
Jean Loo - credit to @raemilomin
Skips - credit to @atzxpz
xxXShadowLord420Xxx - credit to @jessieshark42
Mateo - credit to @0owitheredquinceyo0

I couldnt find the artist for Parker, it may have been deleted.
Hector - credit to @vistorn
Freddy - credit to @spykarp
Phoenicia - credit to @hrrria
Scandalabra - credit to @s1lly-gh02tz
Maggie - credit to @namneeo [didnt even bother with any mention of credit, just straight up stole it and said nothing.]
It took me max 30 minutes to search and find these artists AND credit them. I don't care about any 'reason' you have to not credit, it's wrong and every artist deserves credit for their work, and "they can all be found here on tumblr" is just a spit in the face. /srs

There's a Pokémon Presents on July 22nd . . .
Maybe they'll tell us what happened to Friede then.
#provided there are no breaks between now and then we'll have 8 new episodes of Horizons#so like. honestly. finding out Friede's fate from the Presents is as likely as finding it out in the show by that time#pokemon#pokemon horizons#pokeani#anipoke#professor friede#lmao imagine it opens with like#''Before we begin we would like to have a moment of silence for our dearly departed Professor Friede.#We have prepared a memorial slideshow to honor him. Please take a look.''#honestly that would be so shocking it would loop right around to funny. i would feel bad laughing at the confirmation he was dead#but can you *imagine*#they'd need to play some really cheesy song over it too#like that one that goes ''I will remember you . . . will you remember me . . .''#and it's not even clips it's literally just still images. bonus points if they were sepia tinted#ok i'm sorry this post wasn't supposed to be about this but it popped into my head and now i'm laughing about it#the idea of a cheesy memorial slideshow for Friede during the Presents is just sending me#and if you're like ''what about Amethio'' don't worry fam I gotchu#since Amethio didn't get a death scene and we've all but been told that he's just missing / still has people looking for him#then after the Friede memorial slideshow they'd be like#''Next we would like to announce a new product line. We are releasing special edition cartons of flavored milk in all 7-Elevens.''#(see bc 7-Eleven is in Japan *and* the U.S.)#and then they would show the milk carton and on one side it would have a HAVE YOU SEEN ME? with Amethio's portrait#and a fake phone number you can call. or bonus it's a real phone number but it just goes to a recorded line#where Hamber asks you to please leave your tip / info at the beep.#see look they should hire me i have all the best ideas#why am i not on the payroll#they're missing out

He once made the mistake of joking about taking a dive into a lake because he’d been craving fish, saying he’d give anything for one right then.
Sukuna didn’t even pause before jumping right in. And only then did Yuji find out that the boy didn’t even know how to swim.
He can still feel the sharp, visceral terror of seeing those flailing limbs going under without a sound, the stream of bubbles rising to the surface as he’d stared, dumbfounded, before realizing that Sukuna wasn’t coming back up.
Yuji cried so hard after fishing the boy out of the water that Sukuna awkwardly started patting his head in consolation.

hi I love your tags so so much! they were so sweet and so interesting and creative and the whole Aphrodite type of beauty thing sounds really interesting do you have any articles and recommendations to read further into it??
-hogoflight
Hello my fine feathered (I am assuming possession of feathers if you are, indeed, capable of flight) @hogoflight! I'm always always happy to hear that people appreciate my frenzied rambling in the tags :D! I have a lot of articles and recommendations :D!! Ancient Greek notions of beauty and representations of it in their art and sculptures is a pretty well studied topic! There isn't any way for us now to know definitively what the beauty standard was (it varied widely from region to region and culture to culture after all) but here are a couple of my favourite reads about Aphrodite and what her representations tell us about idealised beauty!
Probably the most empirically extensive one I can list is Krönström's thesis which compares statues of Aphrodite and literary text referring to both the goddess and mortal women to determine physical ideals for women in five specific eras of Grecian antiquity. Including measurements of the statues there are many descriptions of Aphrodite as 'curvy' with a 'voluptuous figure' and with 'ample buttocks and bosom'.
"When the beauty traits are described in the texts, they are never extreme or anything that could not be found in normal people just that they are more beautiful in every aspect. Furthermore, the sculptures’ physical forms look healthy, they are tall and have distinct curves. Great examples of this are the Knida sculpture and de Milo (the Melian) sculpture."
Of course, these images are still idealised, and there was still a concept such as 'too fat' or 'too skinny' found in written records (and this thesis even includes analysis of pornographic writings and descriptions of the fashion and stylings of pubic hair of women from different regions!!) but from an interpretational standpoint? There is absolutely no reason why these can't refer to a fuller figure. Height was also a very important factor after all and over the course of many eras, it seems like being well proportioned in addition to the length and appearance of one's hair were the most important factors (and, like Apollo, greater beauty was given to those with curlier hair)
Mireille M. Lee's 'Other Ways of Seeing' essay which talks about the forgotten female viewers of Knidian Aphrodite which is also extremely illuminating on how Aphroditic sexuality and sensuality was perceived totally differently from the well documented male voyeuristic gaze (which was overly preoccupied with the statue's nakedness and therefore over-sensationalised the statue's physical appearance) vs women's perspective on the statue which is more centered on the beauty of simplicity in Aphrodite's garment and decoration and in her power and ability to captivate both in her finery and without it. I think it's especially useful in exploring the importance of finery, jewellry and adornment in representations of Aphroditic beauty.
"Some of the small-scale copies are heavily jeweled, especially those from the eastern Mediterranean, for example the Hellenistic gilded terracotta statuette in the Çanakkale Museum (Fig. 5) in which the goddess wears, in addition to the armband on her (right) arm, the following: a necklace with multiple pendants; cross-bands extending over both shoulders and hips, with a cascading pendant in the center; a coiled snake armband on the left arm and another snake on her left thigh, and a twisted anklet on her right leg. (The left leg has been restored, and might also have featured an anklet.)"
"Jewelry is especially associated with Aphrodite in Greek literature. As seen above, in the Homeric Hymn to Aphrodite, the goddess adorns herself with gold jewelry, dress-pins, and earrings in the shape of flowers (162–3)..."
Finally, and to me, the most important one in the argument for an interpretation of Hyacinthus as fat, beautiful and fundamentally Aphroditic comes from Brilmayer's brilliant brilliant thesis done on Aphrodite's work and influence in Archaic Greek Poetry which does away with all of that masculine preoccupation with physical proportion, measurement and bodily ideals for a focus on a Sapphic Aphroditic ideal centered in clothing, ornamentation and, most importantly cunning as symbols of Aphrodite and ultimately a feminine idealised form of beauty. This paper also discusses Pandora and Helen in these terms and it is just kind of a wonderful read tbh.
"Combining Homeric and Hesiodic elements with her own ideas, she [Sappho] alters the way female beauty is viewed. For example, the Homeric war chariot – a symbol of male, military prowess - comes to symbolise the totality of Aphrodite’s power uniting in itself male and female qualities. Having addressed the concept of beauty directly, Sappho then concludes that beauty lies in the eye of the beholder. With the help of Helen of Troy and her beloved Anaktoria, Sappho sets out to reinvent the concept of female beauty as a godlike, subjective quality that may be expressed in many ways, yet remains inspired by Aphrodite."
The conclusion to all of this of course is that Aphroditic ideal beauty is much more fluid compared to its stricter Apolline masculine standard. The nuances and understandings of both are of course, constantly being studied, analysed and scrutinised but really, if Dionysus who was both bearded and clean shorn, effeminate, birthed and rebirthed (and twice gestated!) and strongly associated with vegetation can be popularly portrayed as fat and handsome, why can't Hyacinthus?!
#ginger rambles#ginger answers asks#Once again I do not care how it happens or who I have to pay#I don't even care how much research I have to do#All I care about is more unique portrayals of Hyacinthus#Literally that's it#I will go through every academic hoop to make that possible if that's what peeps need TRUST#No because there's a genuine conversation to be had about a Hyacinthus who is split between masculine and feminine qualities#Likewise there's a wonderful conversation to be had wrt Apollo's fluidity in terms of presentation and how it does not reflect on his gende#the way Dionysus' fluidity reflects on his#Apollo is ALWAYS masculine no matter his ornaments garments makeup or action#It doesn't matter that he has the prettiest curls or wears elaborate dresses for his kitharody and dances#or values the deep dyes of the lapis - Apollo is ALWAYS male and that cannot be concealed by any finery or garment#Aphrodite however is an ally in this measure because through her beauty bridges the gap between the mortal and the divine#And we see this constantly in the way mortal beauties are able to attract the eye of many gods and how glory and ultimately immortality#are gained from these things#After all even after their deaths or betrayals or tragedies#We still tell their stories and remember their names#And what is Apollo if not the one who recites all of these beautiful memories - what is Clio if not the one who records these histories#ANYWAY PLEASE DRAW FAT HYACINTHUS#PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE#I AM ON MY KNEES I AM BEGGING (no pressure seriously I'm being very lighthearted) BUT ALSO PLEASE PLEASE PLEASEEEEE#TOGETHER WE CAN KILL THE PATROCLES/HYAPOLLO VISUAL PARALLELS WE CAN DO IT I KNOW WE CAN#ANYTHING SO THAT XANTHIAN DEVIL ARISTOS ACHAION DOESN'T GET ANY MORE PARALLELS WITH APOLLO P L E A S E#This is of course entirely because of my own biases and such there's nothing objectively wrong with comparing and paralleling#Hyapollo and Patrocles - however and I cannot stress this enough#P l e a s e#Thank you for the ask <33 Always a pleasure to provide more relatively obscure references mmhm#Hope this helps!#oh almost forgot

things I wish I could relive for the first time again:
that magical window where you finish a new piece of media, having watched/read it all by yourself with no fandom contact whatsoever, and you are just so happy about it, and full of interesting theories and takeaways, and just in love with it as a gorgeous piece of art.
because I swear to god as soon as you join the fandom for anything, you're bombarded with how you're supposed to view characters and their arcs, how you're supposed to morally and ethically judge the plot and the ways it apparently failed to present the right message, and if you don't you'll either be shunned for not sharing the popular headcanons or you'll be harassed for not criticizing the source material enough.
like how is it that the fans of a piece of media are also the ones being the most negative about it? If I like a show or a movie or a book, well, I liked it. That's kind of the point. I'm actually not here to tear it apart and talk about how it didn't live up to standards other people had! I enjoyed it for what it was, and forcing myself to find negative things to say about it doesn't actually bring me more enjoyment of it or reap any benefit to me. Fandom's a double-edged sword; you want to join a community to share your love for a piece of art, and the price you pay for a modicum of joy is a mountain of negativity. that's one main reason that I never engage with fandom until I'm completely done with a show, because if I was plugged into all of that commentary and discourse during the process, I'd be completely colored by how I'm expected to interpret everything this piece of art is presenting to me without being able to even form my own opinions.
#this is currently about arcane but it's also every fandom i've been in since the dawn of time#there is so much political discourse about how the show handled the piltover zaun conflict and class struggle and i just#like i don't even know what to say besides. art doesn't have to provide the correct answer you know#it's not asking you to accept their explanation as the right one. it's just presenting a story. a scenario. a nuanced one at that#which of course the internet is the enemy of nuance as we know#especially in arcane i thought it was fairly clear that the end wasn't the bright shining future anyone hoped it'd be.#was anyone right in their actions? did anything turn out the way they wanted? or was it just as messy and gray as real life#we're living in such a myopic time for art where it's believed every story must take the correct stance or be invalid or even harmful#instead of just offering a perspective. a lived experience. a hypothetical. a story.#and when it gets to be headache inducing all I can do is take myself back to how I felt when I watched the show for the first time#and I came away from the whole thing being incredibly moved and captivated by the entire story and its nuance.#i had no qualms and no criticisms and i was very impressed with the depth of storytelling surrounding the political parts of the plot#as well as the character arcs. i guess people like to dunk on viktor's s2 arc nowadays and i just. shrug. i was blown away by it#for me at least i have nothing but pure love and admiration for art after i've viewed it. it's only after interacting with fandom#that the criticisms seep in and now i can't unsee it and even if i don't agree with it it still muddies my ability to enjoy the art#fandom is a curse in that sense. like i seek out art that i enjoy. i have no desire to make myself dislike that art. whats the point#why are the biggest haters of a piece of media the 'fans' of it idk.#me finishing a show: wow i love all the characters and the plot and the cinematography! I want to talk to others about how cool it is!#meanwhile the fandom hating characters to the point of death threats to their creators#after 13 years in fandom i can say this - if you don't need to join the fandom for smth then don't lmao.#you'll be able to retain your genuine enjoyment of the thing.#that whole 'if you didnt like what i made then make your own' philosophy people use on fanfic/fanart should be applied more#to actual published art too. you should be able to meet art where it's at and if you don't like what it's saying or how it looks then#just move on and find something else. another branch of the 'the greatest enemy of the left is the left' tree imo#a show has a lot of queer rep? bash it to the point of making the creators go into hiding for not doing it how you think it should be#no artist will ever be able to satisfy everyone's demands. they just want to put their experiences and ideas into the world#creators that try to do good get more vitriol than those who never try. they're scrutinized harder and judged more harshly#it's just. one of those 'real fucking tired of fandom' nights. the best cure is just going back and rewatching the source material#all on your own and falling back in love with it. just you and your genuine connection with the art.#anyway what happened to steven universe was unforgiveable and it really ruined fandom for me. like. yall don't deserve nice things

If I may, how do you typically approach choosing colors in your art? It always has just a lovely feel to it, so I was a bit curious; don't feel pressured to answer ofc :]
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I’ve been using a lot of gradient maps lately, they work by switching the greys in your piece with a corresponding colour according to its value. Basically, I colour in black and white, grab a gradient map, and then I adjust the colours by hand until I’m happy with it. This isn’t the only kind of colouring I do, but it works great if you’re in a rush or you’re struggling to find a good starting point for your colours. I’ve been operating under a time crunch for these Sketchbook Week drawings and the Plenism promo stuff I made, so for all except one I used gradient maps. I’m actually in a bit of a funk with my colours right now soooo I’ll come back and do a proper colouring tutorial for my style once I’m happier with how my non gradient mapped colours are looking !
#after sketchbook weeks over I wanna sit and do some colour studies to find palettes I’m more happy with#even these gradient map ones I’m not thrilled with#they’re fine! but I could do better#in terms of other tricks I use I’ll often adjust the hues and saturations if the whole piece to give things more unity if I’m struggling#and/or add a new layer on top of everything and fill it with one base colour#and play around with different layer settings and opacities on top#I’ve found a luminosity layer on a low 5-10% setting is quite nice#basicslly I fuck around and find out#and if I’m in a rush I use a gradient map#they’re not neccesarily a quick fix! if you’re like me you’ll still want to do some tweaking after it’s been applied#and you need to pay attention to your values when you’re colouring in black and white#but that’s another good thing about gradient maps - they force you to focus on value over hue which is an important skill to build#so yeah I’ll come back to this and make an actual colouring tutorial once I feel like I have actual good advice to give#cause rn I’m just very meh in my colouring and I don’t think I have anything very helpful to add#need to find some tutorials myself first !#ty for the ask!#ask#art#my art#bpcol-reblogs#textpost#blethering#for this piece the adjustments were minimal in comparison to what I usually do btw#because I was rushinggggg lol#I did more for my Plenism posters n such#but I can’t really show good comparisons because I. didn’t save them like that#I usually smush all my layers together when I’m drawing sooo yeah makes it hard to go back my bad whoops#but I saved as I was going whilst drawing this so I could provide examples yipee!#if I’d been smarter and remembered more I could’ve had more process screenshots butttt oh well lmao

okay,,,,, hypothetically,,,,,, if one wanted to get into black power lit where would recommend they start 👀
the way I screamed lmao
first off, I wanna give a disclaimer: I am not the most well-read person in the world on Black Power. I read this sort of stuff as a hobby, and it's not the subject of my own academic work, even though I do write about race a LOT. I just like Black Power lol.
with that said, let's go through some hits!
Huey P. Newton
Newton, along with Bobby Seale, was co-founder of the Black Panther Party for Self Defense. he was murdered in 1989 and has a bit of a contentious legacy. however, while I recognize that many of Newton's personal issues got in the way of him being the most effective leader he could be, that shouldn't stop us from reading him! we never require perfection of, say, Lenin to consider him important, lol
Newton's Revolutionary Suicide is a powerful but very difficult book. I actually have yet to finish it because of the way he describes his time in solitary confinement. the conditions are literally sickening. but I want to get back to it someday. I also know there's a relatively recent reader on him that might be helpful, but I have yet to find a pdf copy of it :(
Kwame Ture/Stokely Carmichael
now for one of Newton's archnemeses! lol. Ture was a founding member of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee, which hosted other famous figures such as John Lewis. he worked closely with MLK during the Civil Rights movement and was on the ground in many very difficult struggles. he would later become affiliated with the Black Panthers while Newton was in jail, and one of his most famous speeches is from the Free Huey movement. but they wound up not liking each other, mostly because Ture was firmer about not allying with other progressive movements. this caused tension with other Panthers such as Newton and Fred Hampton, who felt like allying themselves with international and local organizations was important, even if those orgs included non-black people. Ture eventually fled the US and lived most of the rest of his life in Guinea. I have a copy of a book of his speeches in the collection and highly recommend it. even when I disagree with Ture, I find him so engaging. he always makes me think. AND! if you're up for it, I'd recommend checking out some of his speeches. he was a very compelling speaker, and a bunch of his talks are uploaded on the youtube channel AfroMarxist
Angela Davis
Davis is perhaps one of the most recognizable names out of the Black Power era, probably because she's still alive, lol. Davis grew up in Alabama, and her church was famously bombed by white supremacists in 1963, killing 4 young girls. Davis would become famous a decade later when she represented herself at trial when accused of having weapons others used to kill cops. her imprisonment sparked an international movement. later on, she'd go on to become a professor, and she's still active as a public intellectual today. of her work, I've read part of Freedom Is a Constant Struggle, but I also have Women, Race, and Class and Are Prisons Obsolete? for your perusal! Davis is a leading figure in prison abolition thought, which is very very cool
Assata Shakur
Assata Shakur is known for many things, including: being the first woman on the FBI's most wanted list; being Tupac's godmother; and, most famously, being put in prison after a string of crimes she maybe did but maybe not, being freed by comrades, fleeing to Cuba, and hanging out there until the present (Newton also fled to Cuba at one point; that was a time). her autobiography is really great, though she doesn't tell you how she got out of prison. the writing is really engaging, and I think she does a great job of showing just how fucked up the surveillance of these groups was. she left the Panthers to join the Black Liberation Army, which was a very loose collective of smaller groups, but I'll let her tell the story lol
George Jackson
Jackson is the author of my current read, Blood in My Eye. he was also a member of the Panthers (there's a theme here), but he started his own group, the Black Guerilla Family, while in prison. one of the members ironically killed Newton! what a story lol. but Jackson spent the last years of his life in prison. he maintained a very militant outlook with clear principles. I really like the way he writes and his analysis, even though I'm slowly working my way through the book. he also has a famous collection of letters, Soledad Brother, which I hope to get into someday
Frantz Fanon
Fanon isn't part of the Black Power movement proper, but his writing is so influential to it it doesn't make much sense not to mention him. his main two works are Black Skin, White Masks and The Wretched of the Earth (which is in the collection). Fanon was from Martinique, moved to France, and eventually became part of the Algerian anti-colonial struggle against France. he died in his 30s!!! (Jackson died at 29, and Newton in his 40s; there's a theme here). but anyway, Fanon's brief life has powerful resonances to this day. in Wretched of the Earth he uses his background as a psychiatrist to give a really interesting analysis of the effects of violence on the colonized. Paulo Freire's famous Pedagogy of the Oppressed was actually written in response. and so were a lot of other things lol
Audre Lorde
Lorde was a big figure in the Black Arts Movement, which is associated with Black Power. her writing, along with Davis's, brings much-needed feminist (and queer! both are lesbians) analysis to the table. I've included two of her books, a poetry collection, and a collection of essays and speeches. I loveeeeeee Audre Lorde, and I highly recommend her work
Amiri Baraka
Baraka was the person who coined the term "Black Arts Movement." he wrote on a number of black art forms, but I have only so far engaged with his poetry. I have a collection here I haven't finished (full transparency, haven't finished the Lorde collection either; I kinda like to just go in there and grab a poem or two from time to time) called Transbluency. I would say that compared to Lorde, Baraka's poetry shows signs of its age more. it can get slightly toxic lol. but I find a lot of that resonates with me in it, and Baraka was so prolific that you can see how he shifts over time. someday I will find a digital copy of Un Poco Low Coup, I swear!
also gotta read Elaine Brown, Malcolm X, and Fred Hampton, but I have yet to. hopefully I have plenty of time to!
um okay this is a lot of reading!!! good luck!!! lemme know if you have questions!!
click here for pdf copies of most of the mentioned books!

random question but for a group that is considered an angel group theres a lack of angel imagery in the graphics and blog and knowing you i am sure there’s a reason for that????? 🎤
LMAOOOOOO KNOWING ME?!  😭😭😭  ok.  but ur right.  i actually do have a reason but i’ve never said anything about it because that’s lore territory and i’ve always wanted to do something “fun” to talk about those silly theories.  but with the way i’m moving…  ok.  u didn’t ask for this but i will do a little lore dump on the reason why i don’t really include angel visuals to their content with a tldr because before i am an human i'm a yapper!
Tumblr media
in their world,  the mobius,  there’s an otherworldly god i call "i"—  though sometimes i call them "mother" or "father" as well,  since,  really,  they’re only a concept.  and,  in a way,  "i" could even be u.
“i” is beyond mortal understanding,  something like a biblically accurate angel that no one is worthy to look upon.  a literal god of whom no one shall make a carved image.  their vision when creating the mobius was to make a “perfect world,”  free of sin and disobedience,  where angels and disciples would serve them and their word alone.  to do this,  “i” created three angels from the heart of nature,  because whatever came from mother nature itself would surely obey them,  right?  but there was one rule in “i’s” book:  noooooooo one could ever resemble the likeness or idea of “i.”  because if their angels inspired the same awe or dread "i" provided,  how could they ever spread their message?
so,  these angels were made to radiate kindness,  each a vessel of their season,  born to share “i’s” teachings without stirring fear.  they’re almost like concepts themselves:  a glimpse of what they might be,  but always held back by “i’s” rules and doctrine.  basically,  they were created solely to serve.  (not trying to be funny here lmaoooooooooo).  in their gentle,  human-like forms,  the sillies are the perfect reflections of “i’s” ideals,  inspiring trust rather than dread to those they cross paths with.
yet,  after the aengel of the season project,  they saw how “i” had limited them as angels,  as “humans,”  as individuals because they didn’t even have the right to think on their own without consequences.  they were even bothered by the fact that “i” didn’t fully respect mother nature by allowing their disciples to slowly destroy her.  this realization sparked anger toward their god,  their roles,  and even their own identities because who the fuck am i?  eventually,  they understood that they were as close to god as anything could be as they were created by "i" and their own creation,  so why serve when they are their own person slash actual angel?   🤭  now,  with “i’s” gift,  aka their serene,  human-like forms as they don’t portray themselves as the biblically angels they actually are,  they quietly but definitely defy “i’s” words by sharing their own doctrines of self-love,  self-expression,  and self-respect.  :)
TLDR.  their human forms are simply “vessels” to gain people’s trust,  as they’re actually biblically accurate angels  :)  because how can they share their own doctrine and encourage mmmmmmm individuality?  uniqueness?  if everyone is screaming and kicking their feet while they’re going plsssssss do not be afraid  D:  their aura alone is angelic enough,  aka the main reason angel imagery isn’t present enough in the blog  :)
