unsurprisingly, riddle gets a lot of bizarre things from students and professors alike. confessions are one thing but having one in this... circular, red, full of helium balloon is certainly a surprise. creative, he'll give them that. if anything he's just confused with it in his arms as you just sort of, shove it in his arms and run away. he recognizes you easily but once cater plucks it out of his grip and shows him the message he just turns red.

trey is the type of guy to accept whatever you give him, honestly. it doesn't matter if you give him the most random of items, he'll take it without a single word of query (unless it's really questionable.) you could hand him a bottle of mustard in class, trey'll just blink and hold onto it patiently. a pair of batteries? thanks he guesses. a red, inflated balloon? he spares you a questioning glance but you're already collecting dust with how fast you ran away so he turns it and resists a smile. clearly spotting the bold letters.

the opposite of clover, cater just doesn't take anything from you unless it piques his interest or is just a casual 'hold onto this for a few' like water or something. things bordering past unusual is what he'd hesitate to take, though less given he trusts you. sometimes he doesn't take it all together simply cause he doesn't feel like it. caters probably updated on everything so when you shove the balloon in his arms and beeline he's pulling out his phone ready to scream his ass off in his dump account. (also gotta magicam this, duh.)

will most likely just dump it on the ground without another thought. or hand it back to you. ace does not care about balloons, he might even pop it in your face. that is, if you stayed for more than a second. he feels more inclined to peer further cause you ran away so fast. you looked embarrassed, and he finds out quickly why you'd proceed to never show up to his face for the following week when he spots it. stares at it dumbly for like, a minute before taking off after you... be scared ig.

ruggie is all too familiar with the lack of appreciation some folks hold towards cheaper material gifts. like a luxury jewel, a big, shiny lil' thing ultimately rotting in the closet of some soul cause its the 'price' that counts. he spots the words easily, discerning the black ink. not entirely formed with straight lines, the keen eyes of his spots the wriggles some hold. as though whoever wrote was nervous and he bores an impish grin. (and some back corner of his closet holds no big, pricey jewel, but the deflated balloon is worth all the more to him.)

well versed in catching you in a gentle manner, if you ever slipped (he definitely did not practice.) so azul's reflexes respond quick enough to capture the red little thing with ease. he recognizes it as one of your antics, and he rarely doesn't humor them since it was harmless ones that don't really get under his skin, unlike that of the tweels... the curiosity of looking forward to whatever you had far outweighed any annoyance, and great sevens he might actually combust. ("JADE PREPARE THE LOUNGE—") <- absolutely ready to initiate the plans he had detailed through a script ages ago if this were to ever happen, with a red face. ha, ha.

either clueless, or already got an idea based entirely on the adorably stiff look on your face. jade easily puts two and two together, it's quite funny because he picks it up and doesn't spare a single look. stalking off to find you immediately, and only then does he take a peek as to whatever made the balloon special, right in front of you cause apparently he's gotta witness your raw embarrassment in the flesh?

floyd is likely not interested in the ball in the first place, he thinks you want to play catch so he runs after you with a laugh that... makes you a lot more concerned. he flings it uselessly to the face of some poor soul before he sprint after you, probably traumatizing them when they spot the 'I like you' on it, and when they realize they got it from the resident terrorist whose definition of 'I like you' is 'you're entertaining, I'm gonna keep on playing with you'. (only blinks when you tell him about it, seeing as he isn't close to releasing you anytime soon from his arms.) caught you!

sparkles, around the sun... too bright... kalim's blinding everyone else with his obvious joy. almost immediately turns it and it's clear he saw something he really liked cause he has one of those grins, really wide, showing off his teeth and his face scrunches up to the point where you could barely spot the red irises of his eyes. his lips are wobbly too! and he thought the notion was simply too cute... (so much he just had to send it back, so you could feel what he felt too!) except it comes in a hundred times balloons inside your home.

really confused. is this supposed to be a new form of comfort in the era that he hasn't caught up with yet? jamil does nothing much to stop you from running away, yeah. that's your choice but it did strike an inkling of suspicion in him. with the way you aggressively shoved the balloon in his arms before you ran away makes him think it's contents are supposed to be for him only. seeing as you collected dust with that sprint, so he brings it home. and damn, thank god he did because seven forbid if anyone else actually saw the flicker of bashfullness in his expression, hopefully not his warming ears either.

After seeing a few posts that were somewhat adjacent in content I got curious about the character bashing fics about Hen and Chim as well as which slash ships are tagged in those fics. So I took a deep dive into the ao3 tags.

I only looked into bashing fics for Chimney and Hen and wrote down how many bashing fic they each have written about them in total and how many of them are Buddie, Bucktommy or Buddietommy stories or how many aren't tagged as any of the above. I thought about doing a more extensive overview and including more characters, but decided against it for several reasons:

A) Some of the characters like Athena and Buck only have a truly insignificant number of bashing fics written about them (I couldn't find a single fic bashing Buck as a singular character, there was only bashing of Bucktommy and Bucktaylor as couples). In Athena's case there were 6 stories and most of them weren't just about Athena either, it was more about bashing every character who isn't Buck (I think of these more as "infantalising Buck to infinity and beyond" fics than actual "character bashing" fics).

B) The data in the Bucktommy tag is very difficult for me to sort through because a lot of these stories aren't actually about Bucktommy as a couple, they're Buddie fics that include Tommy bashing. In general there's a lot of cross-tagging going on when it comes to the Buck/Tommy/Eddie triangle, so I left out all three of them.

C) One aspect of the debate around character bashing in the Buddie and Bucktommy tag was how and if racism played into it and if Eddie's and Tommy's respective backgrounds had anything to do with it. (Tommy having shown racist behaviour in the past and Eddie being half Mexican.) This is why I decided to concentrate on how shippers and none shippers treat the characters of colour and not look into Bobby and Maddie bashing further since both characters are white. (I think most of those also drift more into the "infantalising Buck" direction than the bashing of a specific character anyway.)

Moving on to the actual stats: I didn't use any filters for the first run, so these two charts include crossovers, AUs, incomplete works - everything.

The "Henrietta "Hen" Wilson bashing" tag has a total of 88 stories. 23 of these feature Buddie, 12 feature Bucktommy, 2 feature Buddietommy and 51 didn't have either ship tagged. [I took the liberty of subtracting the Buddietommy fics from the numbers for the individual ships so they're ony counted once.]

The "Howie "Chimney" Han bashing" tag has a total of 291 stories. 134 of these feature Buddie, 24 feature Bucktommy, 4 feature Buddietommy and 129 didn't have either ship tagged. [One fic was tagged both Buddie and Bucktommy, but not Buddietommy. Since it included "Established" Buddie and Eddie cheating on Buck I assume it's a Bucktommy endgame story and counted it under their tally.]

There is of course overlap: 81 works on ao3 are tagged both for Hen bashing and Chim bashing, meaning only 7 Hen bashing stories don't also feature Chimney bashing. I took a closer look and a total of 4 stories in the Hen bashing tag don't feature the bashing of any other characters. (They were all written by the same person in 2022/2023, 2 of them ship Buck with Jonah Greenway, 2 ship Buck with a male OC, 3 feature platonic Buddie, Tommy isn't mentioned.)

When you look at works from 2024 alone there are 10 Hen bashing Buddie fics and 13 Hen bashing Bucktommy fics - more or less 50/50. Exclude both ships and the most commonly featured character is still Buck. There is only 1 Hen Bashing fic that was posted this year and that doesn't at the same time include Chimney bashing - an entire litany of other characters are also getting a bashing here though.

This leads me to believe that similar to the Athena bashing fics most of these stories aren't actually about dragging Hen and her canon behaviour specifically through the mud, neither is it about either of the male slash ships specifically - it's about isolating Buck and framing him as his shitty friends' sole victim, no matter whom he is dating. He is the common denominator here.

I also looked at the Chimney bashing works more closely. I once again removed all other character bashing tags and was left with 82 works, a much higher number than in Hen's case.

19 of those fics mention the punch Chim threw at Buck in season 5 specifically, so that seems to have sparked a very significant portion of the animosity towards Chim. To check, I additionally excluded all works published after October 10th 2021 (the day before that punch scene aired). There was only one fic. One. Which leads me to believe that this event was what made Chimney bashing "fashionable" in the fandom. I mean. 4 seasons, 64 episodes and only one fic that was written to bash Chimney specifically and exclusively. And then there were another 81 after that punch.

I also wanted to check what this year's Chimney bashing fics look like. In 2024 63 new Chim bashing works were added in the Buddie tag, but only 25 in the Bucktommy tag. The scales are much more tipped here than they were with the same filters in Hen's tag. However there's the same pattern around Buck: Exclude both ships and he is still in 90% of those fics and the most commonly featured character.

It also got me thinking: How many of the new fics from this year are still about that punch? I utulised Ctrl+F and found 12. I also found an additional 7 fics mentioning the season 5 ppd arc, though some might've slipped through the cracks. There were also a bunch of tsunami / law suit related fics still being posted this year as well as some about Buck Begins and the Daniel of it all.

I think my conclusion is this: Chimney bashing and especially Hen bashing has nothing to do with what male slash ship the author favours and everything with how they view Evan Buckley as an individual character.

Hen never "wronged" Buck with a specific action that angered the fans - she's generally supportive of him and thus only very few fics are being written that criticise or bash her canon behaviour. In most cases she just gets thrown in with the other characters to make Buck look like an isolated victim.

It's also clear to see that the absolute majority of fics including Hen bashing have nothing to do with either ship.

Chimney on the other hand became an easy and popular target the very second he canonically laid hand on Buck. This canon event set a trend that has yet to die down.

Yes, the majority of Chimney bashing works also feature Buddie, but I personally think this can easily be explained by the fact that Tommy was simply not on the show when most of the events that made fans turn on Chim and scramble to defend Buck took place. The truck explosion to law suit arc? No Tommy. Chim's involvement in the Daniel reveal? No Tommy. The ppd / Boston arc? No Tommy.

On an additional note: Even though I said I wasn't going to look into this in detail I think it is worth noting that Bobby has 1.75 times as many bashing fics as Hen (153 vs 88). Even when I excluded Hen and Chimney bashing there were still 47 stories left (34 related to the truck bombing / law suit).

Bottom line I don't think that either the Bucktommy fandom or the Buddie fandom is more or less racist than the other. I think that a lot of the more hardcore fans are viciously protective of Buck, their (white) fave and everyone who "wrongs" him or gets in his way will get the bashing of a lifetime. Chim got the worst of it because of the punch, Bobby and the law suit arc aren't that far behind though.

Now if we looked into the bashing of love interests and misogyny we would be having an entirely different conversation, but when it comes to Hen and Chim? Neither side of the ship war is walking away with their hands clean.

HIRABAMI

DESIGN: WEIRD

Don't like this one at all. It seems weird that they just float, and there's something off-putting about them to me.

COMBAT: NOPE

The near constant flying is annoying to deal with, and they don't have any interesting mechanics beyond that.

AJARAKAN

DESIGN: COOL

Very cool looking, and I like how the flame ridges actually function to ignite them. Very intimidating presence. It's nice to see an ape like monster that isn't just big monkey with colored fur.

COMBAT: INTENSE

This guy has all sorts of stuff to throw at you. That Sonic the Hedgehog spin is fantastic and the shoulder toss has flung me more than a few times. Also cool that it swings around in certain areas.

NU UDRA

DESIGN: OK

Not to downplay the eyeball tenticles, but its mostly just a big squid that's on fire sometimes.

COMBAT: MEH

It's not terrible, but I expected more out of an apex. The rain of fireballs is kinda neat.

RATHALOS

DESIGN: A CLASSIC

It's him! The Guy! Can't beat a classic and he is looking good in this game.

COMBAT: JUST AS ANNOYING AS EVER

Well they don't call him King of the Sky for nothing. I had forgotten how much he stays up there. There's a few tweaks, but he's the same as ever.

JIN DAHAAD

DESIGN: ABSOLUTE PEAK!

Its the best monster in the game, no contest. Absolutely massive, big bone armor plating, and agile to boot. This thing has it all. They knocked it out of the park here.

COMBAT: ALSO PEAK!

They finally got fighting a massive monster right! It feels like a boss raid fighting this guy; damage mechanics, stage changes, and a hyper instant death move you have to avoid. Every inch of this thing has a new way to kill you. This is my most fought monster because I just have so much fun fighting it.

GUARDIAN EBONY ODOGARON

DESIGN: GOOD

Big angry dog with double claws and a massive jaw. Still looks great, although I kinda don't like the guardian coloring.

COMBAT: AGRESSIVE

As per usual this guy doesn't let up. Jumping around and biting all over the place, and now with an added big explosion move.

XU WU

DESIGN: PRETTY NEAT

Despite not being impressed with Nu Udra, I find this one to be much more visually interesting. The massive head, the crazy underneath mouth, and the bladed tenticles all give it a lot more personality.

COMBAT: FUN

It feels like fighting a warrior instead of a monster. Flipping around, throwing knives, and slashing it's tenticles like a sword give this fight a lot of flare. Also the big mouth attack is very intimidating. Its a shame its usually a very short fight.

ARKVELD

DESIGN: SUPERB

This one earns it's place on the box. Cool horns, the big chain appendages, and that lovely fur really come together nicely.

COMBAT: RADICAL

This feels like a perfect flagship fight. All sorts of different attacks, particularly the signature chain bashes, really keep the pressure up. And the enraged explosions are really bombastic. I never get tired of this fight and it always feels very thematic.

ZOH SHIA

DESIGN: PERFECT

This one checks all the boxes. Big and intimidating, while also being strangely beautiful. Then a massive transformation into a complete demon. Very final boss energy.

COMBAT: POWERFUL

This fight does not disappoint. It starts out strong, but then unleashing those massive blasts and growing stronger as it breaks out of its shell gets crazy. Very cool, great ending to the main story. Really hope to see it in High rank at some point.

YIAN KUT-KU

DESIGN: FUN

This is a great example of a goofy monster design that is actually good. It's like one of those weird parrots you'd find in a jungle and I find it quite endearing.

COMBAT: THE MOST ANNOYING

Hooo boy, I do not like to fight this thing. Pretty much everything it does is designed to throw you off in some way. Fireballs lobbed right behind you, sliding around and spazzing out, FLYING A MILLION MILES AWAY WHEN IT RETREATS. It all makes for a weirdly challenging fight. I have a certain amount of respect for it, but man do I not want to see another one for awhile.

At the time of posting, Crossover Fics accounted for 13% of the total fanfics on Ao3 (9177 works) (Fig 1A). They were predominantly featured in Batman All Media Types (5097 works) or DCU (1034 works), accounting for 68% of all crossover fics (Fig 1D). The majority of the works were rated for General (39%) or Teen Audiences (39%) (Fig 1B).

Partitioning

To see changes in crossover fics in the ML fandom over time, I have tracked the number of crossovers posted to Ao3 per year.

Data was filtered by the date the fic was last posted, between 01 Jan - 31 Dec for each year.

Note that older fics may get updated, this data is only a reflection of the fandom at one moment in time. This analysis was performed 06 Jan 2024.

Note that I have followed the Ao3 definition of a slash representing romantic relationships and & indicates platonic relationships.

Are there any pre-gunpowder weapons that Eris has a distaste for?

Ooooh, good question!

In This Phantom Life, Eris does mention having a distaste for kukri blades, namely because he finds them to be rather imprecise and difficult to maneuver in the way they want to maneuver. They like them well enough as a basic survival tool, but prefer other sorts of blades when it comes to a battle setting.

I also feel like Eris isn't particularly fond of bludgeoning weapons as a whole. They prefer blades or piercing weapons - these usually result in a quicker, more efficient battle overall, and they feel like it preserves the integrity of their opponent more than a blunt-force death. Part of what they find honorable in battle is keeping the body in decent shape for the family's benefit, and it's easier to plug or wrap a knife wound than it is to restructure a bashed-in skull. If possible, Eris prefers to grant their victims a quick and reasonably non-brutal death, so any weapon that uses primarily blunt force won't be their first choice.

However, if they're going to use a blunt-force weapon, they'll likely gravitate towards the Japanese eku. She prefers artistry in battle, so a traditional martial art like kobudō would be more preferable to the hack-and-slash Medieval maces or flails. Though like I said, he'd generally prefer not to use a bludgeoning weapon at all.

And with all of this, remember that it's not for a lack of familiarity. Eris has had centuries to practice and train, and they're well-versed in just about any weapon you could give them. Even if they don't enjoy using a particular weapon in an active battle, they'll still train independently with the technique and artistry of it.

There really aren't any weapons Eris has an overall distaste for, only weapons they dislike killing with. Even when it comes to guns, as Eris is so vocally opposed to... they do enjoy shooting, and love a good Annie Oakley-style challenge like the one they gave DuBois, but they feel like guns lack the capacity for honor when it comes to an actual battle.

Bloodied Halls

Bonds of a Lineage pt.2

Wild swung the bright blue blade with a new fury. The red of their bodysuits were starting to match the red of their blood. Their sickles littered the floor, wielded only by corpses now.

Wild tried not to think of the hardcore washing his tunic would need. Not to mention the Old Man’s white tunic, already stained with the dirt and grime of the prison-fortress that Cia had them stuck in.

He chopped another head off, dodged another sickle, and blocked another arrow. He found himself pushed against the Old Man’s back again, his grunt the only indication that it was him. He didn’t have time to put on his armor before the onslaught happened. He was as bare as he could be now. That armor was his shield. With a claymore like the biggoron sword, there is no way to have both a shield and the sword out.

“You still doing alright over there?” Wild yelled over the chaos.

“What, you still think I’m too old for this?” Wild could hear the grin in his voice.

“No! It must feel weird fighting without your armor!” Wild sliced another Yiga’s chest open, their intestines peaked through the cut.

“I actually feel a lot lighter without it.” Time sliced a Yiga clean in half, their torso disconnected from their lower half. “Duck.” Wild obeyed without question, squatting to the ground. Time threw himself into a spin attack, chopping down everything and everyone in a five foot radius.

Wild sprung back up and used his blade to deflect an arrow ready to embed itself into Time’s back. Wild let out a battle cry as he skewered a Yiga. His blade burst into blinding blue shards.

Wild cursed and bashed an oncoming Yiga with his shield. The next one got an elbow to their kidney, they fell to their knees and another stomped on their head. Wild let a brief laugh escape him as he watched the fate of his enemy.

In his periphery, Wild saw a Yiga disappear and was quick to jump to the side. The Yiga reappeared above him, but descended slowly. Wild felt a grin pull at his face.

He took out his slate and swiped until he reached his weapon tab. A knight’s claymore, a soldier’s halbert, a guardian axe, a royal claymore, and a royal broadsword. He tapped on his royal broadsword and got to cutting.

Time soon continued regularly. More slashing and more blood. Time’s grunts became louder and the Yiga kept coming. As easy as these pests were easy to cut down, they were still getting tired. Their limbs were working against them and straining against the hilt of their blades.

“Old Man!” Wild felt the panic begin to set in. There was no end in sight. How long had he been hacking recklessly? How long did he have left? Had the adrenaline worn off?

“I know!” Time’s voice came out as a sort of growl, his teeth definitely bared.

The tip of a sickle had just barely caught Wild’s side, but the gash was far worse than it needed to be. Wild grit his teeth together and chopped the Yiga down.

“Shit!” Wild dropped his shield and used his hand to try and put pressure on his wound. He felt tears prickle in his eyes. He didn’t know if it was because of the pain or because he knew how this fight would inevitably end.

It would end in two bodies wasted on some unknown ground in some unknown place. His brothers would never know what happened to him, he’d never see Zelda or Sidon or Purah or Robbie or Teba or Riju or Yunobo or Tulin or Hudson or-

“You are all useless! What the heck guys!” Wild knew that voice. “I have others to deal with and Lord Ghirahim just wanted this one thing from us! I just-”

“That is enough, you waste of space!” He didn’t know that voice though. The Yiga stepped back and Wild was actually able to see the carnage the two had created. Bodies laid upon bodies upon bodies, the blood running like rivers down a mountain. He couldn’t help but try to step away. He had bumped against Time once more.

“Get them out! I’ll just do it myself.” Just like that, the Yiga disappeared. Not even Kohga stayed behind.

Time shoved Wild back and Wild fell on his butt. Time stood in front of Wild with his claymore pointed out. Wild could hear the other man’s breathing. It was just as rapid as his own. Wild fought his body to stand up once more but was met with resistance. When he finally stood, their new opponent spawned a sword out of nowhere.

“Truely, how am I to be whimsical when working with someone as incompetent as he?” The gray man shook his head and flipped his hair. Wild knew his hair was far more majestic than this want-to-be’s.

“What was it again? Gary or something?” Wild saw Gary’s eye twitch at Time’s words. “You were in the War of Eras, right?”

“Fuck kinda villain name is Gary?” Wild tried to hold in his laugh. Time chuckled, his eyes never left their new opponent.

Gary groaned in frustration. “My name is not Gary, you absolute imbecile!” Gary spawned what looked to be knives. “My name is Ghirahim, and you’d think you’d be kinder to me considering you’re at my mercy!” Ghirahim lunged forward and Time blocked it swiftly.

“Champion, offense!” Time blocked another assault. Wild quickly tapped at his slate. His royal bow materialized into his hand and his arrows filled his quiver.

Time grunted as he swung his blade down. Ghirahim jumped back to dodge the blow. He pointed to Time and his small daggers raced at the man.

Wild backflipped and drew his bow. Time slowed once more and Wild shot all twelve of the daggers. Wild’s feet touched the ground and Time charged forward, Ghirahim met him half way. Wild’s bow stayed drawn, waiting for a time to release the bow’s tension.

Ghirahim spawned more daggers. One by one, they flew at Time. Time met each dagger with his blade in a spin attack. At the end, Wild could see the fatigue in Time’s eyes. Ghirahim must’ve seen it too. The demon dashed forward, a tight grin on his face.

Time fell to one knee, the biggoron sword keeping him from laying himself out.

Wild let his arrows fly as he moved to Time. Ghirahim knocked his arrows away like it was nothing. He would get to Time first.

The Rancher’s gonna want his rascal back, the words echoed in his mind even as an explosion blasted him backwards. Wild felt fire lick at his body when he landed. Wild coughed and patted out any flames that still tried to destroy his already torn clothes. He made the mistake of patting his side. Wild let out a strangled yelp, the gash making itself known once more.

“Old Man?” Wild felt his tears finally fall. “Link!”

“I’m here!” Wild jerked his hand away before Time even emerged from the smoke. “It’s just me. We’ll be ok.”

“What…” Wild looked over to the burning bodies of Yiga soldiers.

“It’s called Din’s Fire, I can explain it later! I still have a little magic left, we need to go now!” Time pulled Wild to his feet. Wild leaned against Time. Time brought his hand closer to his face. “You’re…damn it all!”

Time’s hand began to glow green.

“No you don’t!” Ghirahim broke from the smoke, daggers shooting through behind him. Wild heard Time gasp. Just as quickly as the explosion happened, Time’s hand turned blue and a sapphire crystal surrounded the two as Time held Wild close. “You coward!” The tings of Ghirahim’s blades hitting the crystal grew frantic.

“Champion?” Time’s voice was hoarse. “I’m sorry I couldn’t do more.” He combed his fingers through Wild’s hair. “My magic is depleting quickly. I’ll hold it for as long as I can but I’ll likely pass out in the end.”

The Champion embraced Time tightly, feeling his own eyes start to close. Wild nodded against Time’s chest and let his eyes close.

“I love you, Link.”

The assault on the crystal had stopped long before the two passed out.

What are some ships you like and some you don't?

This is a complicated question because I can get invested in any canon pairing and find all of them fascinating, and because some of my ships aren’t things I like because the people involved are happy and stable.

I’m a Wolfstar girl to the core. I was there in the Bush years, before I knew what fanfiction was, before I knew what fandom was. I’d reread their passages in PoA, and sit with the feelings they gave me. I didn’t know what slash shipping was, I didn’t know I was gay, I thought they were just Good Friends, but I never wanted them with anyone else, and I grew into “they should fuck” as naturally as breathing. They’re one of my core three OTPs of childhood/early adolescent fandom. They sit squarely at the top of any tier list. But beyond that, I’m really intrigued by anything. I am a canon-compliant fan; I know these books well and am really uninterested in anything that doesn’t follow the path of canon (even my AUs are canon-divergent but follow canon characterization and are grounded in the attitudes and sociological climate of the late 20th century). Shield of Return: Leo throws his shield, striking a foe. 90% chance to stun for 1 turn. Cooldown: 4 turns. Icon is the shield with what looks like a purple movement trail following it. The actual action begins with Leo crouching with his shield before he stands up, his knees bend and briefly brings his sword in front of him while preparing to throw the shield by bringing it behind his head before throwing it forward.

Crushing Cleaver: Raph swings his barbaric axe at a foe. 35% chance for Speed to be lowered by 50% for 1 turn. 50% more chance if target is Cunning. Icon is his axe swinging down with a purple tinted trail following it.

The actual action shows Raph doing a spinning jump into the air, with a giant 20-sided die rolling forward until it takes up basically the whole screen aside from Raph, while Raph changes to a axe swing mid-jump before aggressively striking and ending up off-screen.

Poultry-Morph: Raph is transformed into an enraged turkey, buffing allies. Gobble Gobble. 65% chance to take Revenge when an ally is attacked for 2 turns. 45% chance allies gain Speed Up. Cooldown: 3 turns. Icon is the turkey head's silhouette with a visible angry eye, the main silhouette is a dark purple and it is surrounded by pink/purple energy. The actual action shows Raph getting struck in the head with red lightning, his post looking like he's stumbling back before straightening up with his arms at his sides and his head facing the ground before lifting it up to reveal his turkey head with flaming eyes.

Flaming Fireball: Donnie casts a giant fireball at all foes. Area damage. 80% chance to cause damage over time for 2 turns. Cooldown: 4 turns. Icon has a small, sun-like shape with a much larger fireball going forward. Actual action shows Donnie lifting the staff while clenching his right fist, then holding the staff so that the top faces his opponent which causes a small fireball to appear, he gestures with both his arm and staff to bring the fireball into the air as it grows larger, then swinging his arm with a open palm to send it flying towards the opponent.

Bathrobe of the Magi: Donnie's sacred bathrobe has been passed down from mage to mage. Defense raised by 40% in combat. Icon is a purple shield split into two shades of purple.

Magic Shield: Donnie slams his staff down, conjuring a powerful shield to protect his allies. Raise Defense of allies by 50% for 2 turns. 80% chance allies gain Armor. Icon is a simplified Donnie, no crescent is visible on the hat, he has white eyes, and his main body looks like it is covered in a gray cloak. Actual action shows Donnie lifting the staff in the air with both hands before slamming the bottom of it down onto the ground to summon a circle of purple magic that has a aura that extends upward around him.

Michelangelo

Rapid Shot: Mikey unleashes a flight of arrows at a foe. 35% chance for Accuracy to be lowered by 50% for 1 turn. 50% more chance if target is Spirit. The icon is a trio of the suction cup tipped arrows with a purple trail to indicate they've been shot out.

Plungeons and Dragons: Mikey fires a giant plunger at all foes. Area damage. 70% chance to cause Attack Down for 2 turns. Cooldown: 4 turns. The icon is the tip of the plunger which has a purple trail to indicate it is shooting outward, the arrow also appears to be partially visible near the upper left corner. The actual action starts with Mikey holding the arrow out horizontally in front of himself with his right hand while pulling a plunger out from behind himself with his left arm, then he jumped up in the air and put the plunger into the arrow, using his feet to move the arrow while he used his hands to pull back the string before releasing and is sent flying backwards afterwards.

My Awesome: Mikey, obsessed with his +1 Ring of Awesome, uses it to buff his allies. 100% chance to Dispel negative effects from all allies. 100% chance to boost the Focus Meter of Dispelled allies. Cooldown: 3 turns. The icon is the ring. The actual action has Mikey throwing his arrow into the air before going on one knee with sparkly black circular eyes, covering his right hand with his left one before moving it away to reveal the ring, once it is revealed his expression changes to show pure white circle eyes with thick eyebrows and a sharp toothed mouth with a red outline and black inside as he leans away to cover the ring again, the standing up with the sparkly eyes again, one hand on his hip and the other arm shooting out into the sky with the ring.

Ancient Elven Power: Mikey's elven heritage grants him heightened senses. Attack Power raised by 30% in combat. Icon is a knife/sword made out of shades of purple.

Balloon Barrage: Mikey kicks a bunch of water balloons at his foes. Area damage. 80% chance to gain Counter Attack state for 2 turns. Cooldown: 4 turns. Icon is three orange water balloons with the largest one having a purple movement trail. It shows Mikey standing up straighter while putting his arrow on the back and pulling out three water balloons, they look yellow but the icon indicates they are meant to be orange, two land in his right hand while the third land in his left hand, he leans back slightly while juggling them, he punches the first balloon with his right hand, then the second with his left hand, and he gives the third one a spinning kick.

Submission guidelines for the 2024 Spangel fic marathon: - First and foremost, this is a Spangel event, so submissions must have an endgame Spike/Angel pairing in some way. Monster Spotlight: Bloodbrush

When at rest, Bloodbrush look like normal, everyday tumbleweeds. Even when in motion, it takes a keen eye to see anything particularly weird about their coloration... but when that rolling weed suddenly stops, changes direction, and starts bounding towards you against the wind, you may begin to realize it's not normal. Bloodbrush are one of many mindless carnivorous plants on Golarion's surface, though it's at least it's not a towering, insatiable flesh-eater with roots like spider legs and crushing teeth!

Like other Plants without those features, though, you may immediately be able to tell which typical Plant weapon it does have. Plant monsters tend to work like that; if you can't immediately identify an orifice through which they plan to ingest you, there's probably either A) spores, B) poison, or C) invasive roots/branches. In the case of the Bloodbrush, it's B and sort of C! Their tactics in battle are simple as one can expect from a CR 2 creature with no feats or Intelligence: they initiate with their Powerful Charge, dealing 2d4+3 damage once they hit and latching on with Grab (which they can use vs Medium targets).

Being punctured by the brambles Barbs takes 1d4 piercing and 1 bleed damage, and there's a startlingly long list of ways to prick yourself on their 6-inch thorns: hitting them with a non-reach melee attack, making any form of Combat Maneuver against them (whether or not the attempt succeeds), attempting to use Escape Artist to weasel out of their grapple (whether or not the attempt succeeds), and starting your turn grappled (of course). It's ~only~ 1d4 damage and 1 bleed, but with SO many ways to suffer it and given how there's no way to avoid the Barbs without using a reach weapon, that's a lot of incidental damage over the course of the fight. And this is while the little bastard brush is bashing you over and over for 1d3+3 damage and trying to Grab on!

Bashing them back won't quite work; they have DR 5 that's only bypassed by slashing damage, which I assume is because piercing and bludgeoning weapons basically don't do well against their cage-like bodies. You know what DOES work, and works well? Fire. They're Vulnerable to Fire and terribly Flammable besides, bursting into flames upon taking even a single point of Fire damage and taking 1d6 Fire damage each round they continue to burn (unless they succeed a DC 15 Reflex save, which they only have a +1 to). Be careful, though, because while burning them away works quick and works well, it also works against YOU, as it adds 1d6 Fire damage to their slam and their Barbs, vastly accelerating the rate they deal damage to people trying to attack them back.

Ah, I forgot about the poison despite going out of my way to point it out; any creature that takes damage from the Barbs is exposed to it automatically, and it requires a DC 14 Fortitude save to resist. Otherwise, it afflicts the victim with a potent numbing agent that causes delightful hallucinations to dance across their vision for up to 4 rounds. That's just the first dose, though! With every single exposure to the Barbs, that's +2 to the DC and +2 rounds of duration. An unlucky victim might be pricked twice a round--once being grappled, and once for failing to escape it, forcing them to make a DC 16 Fortitude save once a round for 6 rounds and losing their turn every time they fail... which means they can't fight back as the brush chews them apart, soaks in their blood, and plants its seeds in their corpse.

It's a simple monster! But in that simplicity lays incredible danger. Thanks to its powerful initiation and a poison that's practically a paralytic, a single Bloodbrush can almost assuredly take a single creature out of the fight as soon as it hits them with Powerful Charge. Multiple brush attacking multiple party members at once could easily spell doom for the whole group! But luckily they lack the tactical acumen for such a potent assault. Do you know who doesn't? The people the Bloodbrush's article talk about who weaponize them, growing them on the corpses of their enemies and keeping them in wicker baskets that are opened in battle to unleash them. How to spice up any fight: Add in flesh-eating, hallucinogenic tumbleweeds! They even tend to attack their handlers, for added chaos!

One morning, when Gregor Samsa woke from agitated dreams, he found his room transformed around his bed into a monstrous vermin.

That is, to say, it was unfamiliar. And if he followed Faust’s explanation correctly, that entailed a shift in his psyche. So despite the metal walls appearing softer than usual, and the messages on the walls rearranged into something more reassuring, there was the kicker of not knowing what had changed, even when he knew something was off.

And the butterflies kicking in his stomach were getting awfully annoying too.

“Gregor, babe~ what’s that far-away stare for? You don’t wanna make poor Dante turn back the clock more than they have to, do you?” Gregor huffs at the woman mocking him as he slashes at one of the Rats who thought it’d be a good idea to bash on Mephistopheles. “As if— that’s the last of them, anyway. C’mon.” The Sinner hides the embarrassing expression growing on his face by pretending to clean his glasses (is that a spec of blood? Must scrub even harder!), though he never knew Rodion to be a quitter. “You can’t keep dodging the question forever… what’s on your mind?” “Nothing much. My room just changed.” “Changed how? Like someone reorganized it or…” Gregor sighs and throws his coat over his shoulder, and uses his hand to properly push Rodion away. “If that was it you wouldn’t be bugging me so bad.” Rodion stifles a smirk at that specific wording — she purposefully isn’t hiding it very well and it’s driving Gregor crazy — and leans on his head with her arm. “Why don’t you show me around then, hmm?” “Maybe if it’ll get you to shut up,” he mumbles. “What was that?” “Huh- oh, uh, nothing, sure.”

Once steel hard walls now appear to have the texture of lace, with a light pink to match. Words that once read no more have now been covered with paint, taking on the form of hearts and stars and all sorts of other shapes. Curiously, it looked different than the blood once coating the room, the red more vibrant and childlike than the rich scarlet from before. The only thing that seemed to have avoided the repaint was the ashtray residing on the counter next to Gregor’s bed. “Still haven’t given up that smoking habit? But this place seems like you’ve had a little feel-good arc, no?” “I’ll give it up once you give up your gambling,” Gregor replies, although he’s too occupied moseying to his bed and collapsing onto it to think about what he’s saying. Still, Rodion chuckles with a, “touché,” and leans by the entrance. “Is it that Fixer from the other day?” “Was — ”

“What was he from… was it Zwei?” “Yeah, I think, but—” “A little birdie told me that we got a contract that says they’ll be working with us again~” Gregor places his hand over his face and makes an exasperated sigh, pulling at his skin as he drags it downwards. He turns his head to look at Rodion, and she has the most shit-eating grin on her face. “I don’t know what makes you assume all that.” “It’s really easy to tell when you get attached, hun,” she tilts her head and places her hands on her hips, almost disapprovingly. “It is?” “Oh. Oh, Greg. “You’re fucked.”

Even as Vergilius is giving some kind of instruction, Gregor still finds himself distracted; though, it’s not like the other Sinners aren’t consistently distracted as well. He only snaps back to attention when asked if they understood… which they obviously did not. But that would be Dante’s problem, and besides, Gregor was one of the more composed fighters out of the bunch.

When they’re forced off the bus to meet up with the Zwei Fixers (something about another unusual Abnormality breakout, supposedly there’d be a Golden Bough trade-off that Gregor was certain wouldn’t go over smoothly), he finds himself stuck in one place and just staring intently, searching for someone in particular. He jumps when there’s a voice behind him. “Gregor! I heard help was hired for this mission, but I didn’t imagine it’d be you guys again!” Good God, he practically melts. But he knows better than to be caught unaware, shaking off the after-effects, and glances over his shoulder.

“Hey, bud, didn’t know you’d be here. They got you working to the bone, huh?” “Well, with the casualties from last time, we’re going to be lacking units for a while… but it’s not all bad.”

He lost his religion a long time ago, but he finds himself praying that that sort of naivety won’t get you killed. Still, it was heartwarming to see you in good spirits.

You offer a hand to him, and he stands awkwardly for a moment, unsure. Were you expecting… a handshake? He barely catches you shaking your head before grabbing his hand and dragging him along, to catch up with the rest of the group. He thinks he hears you say it's safer if we stick together, right?

It's hard to make out over the pounding in his ears.

The battles were a bit of a blur. That sorta thing happens when it's the same thing over and over; a repetition he wasn't so fond of. He was the least fond of the fact the only fight he remembered was when he got caught off guard and almost shred to bits — if you hadn't stepped in and swept the opponent away with your blade, that is. You had said the slogan then, "We're the Zwei, 'Your Shield,'" and despite how cheesy it was and how he couldn't even be certain it was directed towards him (he swore by the look in your eyes that it was, and even if he misinterpreted that, he prayed it was still true), Gregor had mouthed something in response.

He didn't say goodbye to you when the company and the association had gone their  ways, though he knew you wouldn't mind. You were far too nice to him for that.

"Geg? I'm hearing some banging, and not the good kind," Rodion spoke with a singsong voice, intruding into Gregor's room, unannounced and unwanted. It had changed again. "What's wrong?"

"...I said 'I love you.' He didn't even hear."

The taller Sinner sat by Gregor's bed, crossing her arms and sighing. "You'll just have to try again then, won't you?"

He opens his eyes slowly, sending her a glare, when her intentions finally hit him. He laughed and smothered the cigarette in his mouth in the ashtray to his right.

"Guess you're right."

Under aftermath tagged fics, there's isn't actually any aftermath , like one I read was so unrealistic and.... that it hurt.

Day 23 - Discuss Tosh. Opinions? Favorite moment? Least favorite moment? Any unpopular opinions? Any fun headcanons?

tosh my babygirl my princess light of my life angel darling… shes so good. shes so good 🥺 i love her dearly. she’s so damn underutilized i hate how the show regulates her to a supporting role + only uses her for romantic plots. WACK shes so much more than that. i want a plotline about her cyberterrorism like hello??? i want a plotline about her warped little mind.. i want a plotline about her finally learning spanish ;-; that show did not do her justice and it did not deserve her. i often say torchwood’s characters are too good for the show; tosh is probs the best example of that. no other character gets screwed over as badly as she does by the narrative (not even ianto!) she’s so tragic and lonely i just wanna give her the biggest hug ever. 

fav moment… every time she smiles. (or smirks. hrgh. tosh call me.) also every time she geeks out about smth. im tryna think of a specific moment but idk if i have one?? i just love her overall i smile every time she’s on screen she’s my girlie. when i rewatch i might rmr one though

least favorite moment, the absolute only thing i can think of (hell, my only complaint with her as a character other than i wish she’d get over owen cuz bad taste queen pls u deserve sm better) - it’s always bothered me how she goes over to owen’s flat in aditd and just starts babbling about her own problems. she even says something like “you think everything’s about you”, and in that ep it’s like ??? why are they all acting like he’s unjustified being miserable and angry when he's fucking dead?? like they're all so unsympathetic and mean, even tosh, and out of her it's especially weird?? tbh it just strikes me as ooc (+ kind of misogynistic highkey) writing. i mean, by all means, let tosh bitch, she deserves to blow off some steam + esp deserves to be rude to owen tbh fhsdkjfsd, but the way it’s done in that particular moment feels ooc and, like, how men write women as talking too much and never listening lmao u kno what i mean (owen’s tuned out in the actual episode but you can see her full ramble in the original script, on page 23). tosh has never troubled anyone with her issues before, why would she choose now to, and when she knows owen’s struggling? yeah, on second thought, i don’t hold that against her actually, that’s ooc to me fhdkf. thts just the writer being a wiener.

my only unpopular opinions (slash hot takes) are that 1) towen fucking SUCKS get her away from him, and 2) most people like tosh but she’s highkey underappreciated, esp in fanfic, because of fandom racism + misogyny. she’s not bashed like gwen is but she’s ignored completely which is nearly as bad, and a lot of it’s cuz she happens to be in a show with two white men in a gay relationship who are overwhelmingly prioritized 💀 i will never not be petty about the way that ship dwarfs everything else in comparison. also throwing towen into the background of janto is so gross n cheap. if ppl cared abt her they'd do smth more interesting. and it's never well-done either. ugh.

she also sits by it while she studies her spanish books which she does finally do. she doesn’t get around to the piano, though; doesn’t prioritize buying a keyboard. maybe one day (this is a nobody dies au btw so she will in fact eventually get around to it ;-;)

oh she’s autistic have i said that. the fish tanks absolutely become a spin. she has a few we know of from canon - math and computers, obviously, but also history (gbg) and the uk’s rivers (from gooseberry; i think it was just the uk maybe it was europe’s rivers. or the world’s! i don’t remember). she also loves trivia like she knows a fair amount about quite a lot of things + loves accumulating random info

well this is smth from my owandy verse but i think it should happen anyway. so it kind of kicks off bc gwen mixes up a blind date (it was gonna be tosh & andy and then owen & a friend of hers, but shes an adhd icon n bungles the invites <3)... tosh ends up with gwen’s friend, who’s straight, but they hit it off and she invites tosh to have drinks or maybe come to a bookclub meet or something with some friends of hers?? point is, tosh makes some casual friends. maybe meets a pretty girl there or smth 👁️ but mainly i want tosh to have girl friends like i think she grew up very lonely i want her to have some normalcy

also sometimes i like tosh x andy maybe they have a little meet cute at a torchwood crime scene or smth fshdkfd. i think they’d be cute and he’d treat her well. she'd babble abt tech stuff and he wouldnt understand a damn word but he'd listen very intently

i also like tosh x ianto for similar reasons. i think it’d be a kind of friends to lovers sitch... they should just be close in general tbh, platonically or not yanno, and in my owandy verse i like the idea of smth kicking off between them i just think theyd be so sweet

she’s a very sleepy drunk and also a lightweight. if the team goes out to drink she’ll get two glasses of smth moderately fruity and then fall asleep against someone’s shoulder it’s very cute (this is just cuz i like the idea of a sleepy tosh 🥺 my baby my baby shes so precious to meee)
