the members of gaehwa have their slightly-unique way on how to tell if a person is a part of their organization.  due to the recent rise of the group in ranks,  there has been a strict policy mandated by hyunji’s grandmother that every member  --  whether they be a crucial member or not  --  must have a specific tattoo of a rose in any of their body parts   ( preferably parts in their body that wouldn’t be seen from the get go ).   it’s the reason why hyunji,  at seventeen,  got a tattoo from one of the members just at her left side,  a few inches below her armpit.  it is not usually seen for hyunji prefers comfortable clothing instead of revealing ones,  but on the rare nights that hyunji takes someone home,  it’s one of the first thing they see.  however,  no one really knows that the rose tattoo is for members of gaehwa.  the design looks like one of those typical aesthetic rose designs,  hence the reason why people don’t think much about it whenever they see it.  the tattoo is relatively unknown to law practitioners,  therefore one could have the tattoo in an obvious spot and yet no one would find out that they’re a part of gaehwa.  only the group itself,  and several of its enemies know about the tattoo.

another thing is that in gaehwa,  if a woman gets married and bears a child,  the child must take the woman’s last name.  especially if the child is born from quite a crucial member  ( like hyunji ).  it’s one of the things the mafia mandates for all of its members,  even for their international members.  the child must take the mother’s surname if they are to be inducted in gaehwa.  if the child assumes the father’s last name,  then they won’t be inducted into the gang.
