like 1. "once" prided itself? hate to break it to you. still does. 2. "suddenly become appealing" ok marginalized people have always liked and played hockey. i know by this you actually mean "suddenly spring up a tumblr style fandom" and even thats not new, this style of hockey fandom has existed in some capacity since before the author was born and 3. implying it takes more than gifsets and fanfiction of traditionally masculine white men standing near each other and never having to be seen interacting with any women or minorities in any substantial way to start a fandom. like. do you literally know anything about fandom. literally THE reason hockey HAS a fandom like it does is because it is so overwhelmingly white and masculine. so crazy to be wanting to write about fandom politics/sociology and not be aware of/wanting to shy away from the roles whiteness and maleness play in fandom's development.
