Character Inspiration: Ballad of Spring Tales

Classification: Ribbon Flower Spirit

Biography:

Many years ago, before corruption touched the island, Izumi roamed around doing whatever he pleased. One day, a man who could see Spirits and was entranced by his beauty sealed him in a terrarium. Izumi has only grown weaker over the years, passed into Shu's care. He longs to see the world, but his weakness is a problem...

Relationships:

Shu: He cannot communicate directly with Shu, so other Spirits act as his occasional company and relay messages. Izumi was there while the mansion was being built and remained trapped when Shu confessed he could not make an appropriate body.

Mika: While conversations are short, Izumi would rather have some company than no company. He's taken to teasing Mika just to see how he reacts, otherwise the interactions would be much too bland. He's been bored for so long, after all.

Midori: While the two meet later on, Midori is the only one that could possibly be willing to have Izumi around and not be immediately corrupted while traveling. Though the two's relationship is tense, they're making progress. Not that they have a choice.

Just a year before Izumi was sealed away, he met a Doll gifted in metalwork. The two met up frequently and spoke about the city and swords the Doll made. Though Izumi was sealed away unexpectedly without a goodbye, and it has since been about 30 years.

OnS - Analysis of Rigr's relationship with Urd

Sooo, given the release of chapter 147, a huge uproar came in relation to the words Rigr Stafford stated in certain panel.

Soo, I took the freedom to look for the JP version if what Rigr said.

Before proceeding, I must state that by no means this is a way to deny the bonds those two share, it simply goes on how japanese language and its translation can be tricky. If you like the idea of shipping them, that's fine. If you consider them to be in love, that's fine as well. This is simply an insight regarding the language barrier and how context plays a lot.

First of all, Rigr's words in the JP ver were "ずっと君が好きだった". While it's true that the 好き is used for confessions, the meaning behind is not limited to confessions. But it also relates to when you like someone along its opposite word 嫌い which means dislike.

Now, why do I say context plays a huge role on that particular scene?"

First of all, let's take a look at their relationship ever since they met.

Back when they met, they meet in a prison, as slaves, there was simply no way out. Urd as a child reflected pessimism, whereas Rigr represented the opposite which was hope.

Given their time in that jail, they conversed, they bonded, Urd was still the usual pessimist yet as Rigr said, he didn't want to die. However, within this, there's something Rigr began giving to Urd.

That of course was hope. Even admist despair, hope is something valuable.

Eventually both children were able to run freely, even admist of nowhere, the same attitudes came. They were on their own, one was filled with dream, one had his feet on the ground and yet, the radiance that boy gave made Urd follow him.

A beautiful bond for sure, but this of course is not the emotion of romance itself, it's survival along something primal from humans. Humans can't be alone forever, there's a need for communication.

However, that beautiful bond created between Urd and Rigr shattered once their bodies became immortal.

Once Rige met Shikama, his world changed, he met someone he wanted to follow, someone who he viewed as an emminence, which led to that bond shatter at a slow pace until the First abandoned them.

Urd always considered law as important, he represented the status of a leader, however Rigr was the opposite, he didn't care of such thing, he cared about pursuiting the one who "illuminated" him.

Which ended up with the separation of these two in a crash of ideals.

Rigr proved he was always stronger than Urd, Rigr due to the bond he had with Urd allowed him to win, however that was the opposite, their strength always had a gap.

Thus returning with the main topic at hand and having a full context; it's not wrong to say Rigr loved Urd, however given that english doesn't have different expressions regarding "love" be family or friends, the expression remains as "I love you" which is the same with "I like you" however, in spanish, this changes a lot.

The translation for Rigr's words in spanish would be the following one [P.S: by no means, I'm saying the english translation is wrong. The english translation is fine.]

"Siempre me agradaste"

Though, if I were to compare Mika's 大好き with Rigr's 好きだった; there's a huge emotional gap. Rigr is not even talking in present tense, he was telling Urd that he was fond of him, hence why he was never capable to put an end to him back when they were vampires and even when they met after many years. But because Rigr has a goal, because he has the desire to fulfill Shikama's dream, he is willingly to sacrifice the life of those around him, to the point of hurting the one who loved him and treasured him the most.

Urd built an emotional depence on Rigr but not in a bad sense, it was Rigr who gave him hope after all, it was Rigr who pushed him to live admist his life of despair, but once Rigr chose to walk elsewhere, that delicate bond they had, that safe anchor Urd had vanished and shattered.

In conclusion, the words Rigr stated don't fall in a romantic context, it falls more on their history of how two boys were able to find freedom, how their bond allowed then to avoid demise in such dire times.

When Pangi first showed to Pili's base - he took off his armour thrice which maybe indicated to Pili that Pangi trusts him enough to not kill him or knows if Ace tries Pangi would easily fight back.

But it really surprised me that given how scared Mocha was of Ace in the memory palace - Ace not only respected the memories of Mocha he harbored but also acted on them so well.

But at the same time I can't imagine how Pili 2 was feeling inside - because while Mocha is on the train - Pili 2 is still in the mind palace way closer to Ace. So for him to not only first hear Pangi say all that he did about him, but then be so easily told the secret for which he died for is just so :(((((((

I think hearing the way Pangi talked about Mocha and what they could be is what gave Ace the confidence to tell him the truth. I really hope he didn't do it because he wanted to lie - I really hope he did it because he has finally deciced to live more - this time on his own terms <3333

EEK you have nooo idea how happy i was to see this in my askbox. as you've probably gathered, it's an f1 x doctor who au that myself and my good buddies @ilikestopwatches and @goldenretrievettel are cooking up. it's still a little half baked but i'll give you our current rundown of doctors/companions... and i'm sorry this is SO LONG so erm. readmore

past regenerations we've mentioned but not discussed in great detail are james hunt (with niki lauda companion) and DC (with mika and michael as a pair of companions, and then mark). the doctors we've spoken more about, in chronological order:

sebastian vettel (mark, kimi)

seb as the doctor is very much young red bull seb vibes. incredibly capable and competent but a bit of a menace/agent of chaos/etc, and quite young and immature to boot.

he inherits mark as a companion from his previous regeneration, DC, and where mark usually felt like an equal to DC and had great synergy with him, seb is a lot more unpredictable and, accidentally or otherwise, often leaves him in the dark. it's a new energy that he struggles to adapt to. eventually, things turn sour when [insert traumatic event here - we've talked about mark having a near death experience that seb doesn't take seriously, but nothing's set in stone], mark demands to be taken home, and seb. refuses. after much more tense adventuring, he eventually does let go mark go (and mark later goes on to join unit).

he eventually runs into kimi, who is much more go-with-the-flow than mark ever was, and him and seb get on real well. they complement each other's personalities, kimi is comically unfazed by all the crazy alien bullshit, and seb is super fond of him. unfortunately for seb, kimi eventually asks to return to earth, knowing he wants to have a normal life and family at some point and can't venture across the stars forever. seb, although heartbroken, has kind of learned his lesson with mark and brings kimi home.

we've also talked about mick being a one or two episode companion, although michael is probably not all that pleased about seb dragging his son across the universe without telling him, so it doesn't last...

seb eventually Gets Got by the master (shocker it's fernando), who has previously been thwarted by the presence of seb's companions but can now kick him while his super lonely ass is already down

lewis hamilton (jenson, valtteri, george and alex)

luckily for the doctor, he regens into someone who, unlike seb, is totally NOT lonely and doesn't need ANYONE so he can rock fernando's shit without any help, thanks. lewis travels alone for some time (possibly some one-off companions like heikki), but eventually...

he runs into jenson! or rather jenson probably worms his way into the tardis and refuses to leave. he loooves the adventuring he keeps changing bits of history he's on a mission to sleep with as many aliens as possible he keeps telling people he's The Button, whatever that's supposed to mean. he's fun he's annoying he'd love to get into lewis' pants and lewis is constantly on the verge of losing it. he'll later reflect on these memories with fondness and silently thank jenson for helping him to loosen up and have fun again but also man. wtf. jenson somehow ends up immortal and terrorises/entertains the universe for many years after he departs with lewis. he's very jack harkness vibes

valtteri comes some time after jenson. he's a nice guy who's a little too eager to help. the doctor is used to people sacrificing themselves when he shows up, and frankly it's nice to have someone around who is heavily intent on being a problem solver rather than a problem causer like jenson often was, so it's not until it gets pretty bad that lewis starts to notice Hrmmmm maybe valtteri is doing a bit too much. he's not stupid and he doesn't have a death wish he is just worryingly willing to put himself in the firing line. probably ends up doing something like clara with the whole tattoo countdown thing, but despite being frozen in the seconds between life and death he somehow manages to grow a moustache and a mullet and ends up happier than ever so erm. Win win?

speaking of clara, george is a period companion, probably from the 19th century. he spends most of his first episode freaking out and demanding to be taken home, until he realises that erm. he actually quite likes this adventuring stuff and also he doesn't really like home. there's plenty of time which is just george and lewis, before they also find alex, who is like... 2020s. lewis at this point has matured chilled out opened up etc (think early 2010s old testament lewis when jenson first became his companion, vs lewis Today for galex) and the vibe in the tardis is just Good. george and alex really hit it off, learning about each other's times which includes george learning that a) being gay is an option and b) being gay for alex specifically is an option that alex is totally down for. everything's awesome and cool until gasp! tragedy strikes! they're all under great threat, alex has been kidnapped or something idfk and is in mortal danger and lewis, having taken a hit and needing to regenerate, promises george that he'll save alex...

max verstappen (george, checo, daniel, liam, pierre yuki and isack)

max doesn't save alex. oooooops? the situation probably gets to the point where max determines it's too dangerous, and that he'd rather leave alex than risk all of their lives, but george is (quite understandably) very pissed off with him regardless of the reasoning. max brings george back to his time of origin and offers that he can leave, but george decides that max is unfit to be the doctor, too incompetent and uncaring to save alex - so naturally, he has to stick around and make sure the great responsibility that max wields is actually being fulfilled. lots of arguing, lots of george pretending to be the doctor himself... after outdoctoring george and saving him (and others) from sticky situations enough times, george is eventually convinced that max actually be half-decent. when he leaves, he goes back to alex's time rather than his own.

max later meets checo, who is probably not from earth (for reasons linked to some earlier slagclaren adventures/mclaren tooned jokes...). we haven't talked too much about checo but i figure he would be a liiittle bit of a father figure to max. he's much more of an enabler of the fun stuff + max's more callous attitude than george ever was, but equally he does help max realise that he's not like. inherently destructive or whatever (regenerating and immediately killing off one of your companions gives you a bit of a complex). the vibes are good with these two

the vibes are even better with daniel. i mean idrk what to say about maxiel because frankly they are exactly as weird as they are irl except now they're doing it across spacetime. they get on like a house on fire. unfortch for max everything he learned redeeming himself with george + checo is pretty quickly undone by the horrible tragic ending that daniel gets as a companion. either he dies or he gets trapped in another universe rose-style... no matter what it's not good. such is the danny ric way. sucks to be max!

also sucks to be liam, who gets picked up as a 1/2 episode companion and gets so horrifically traumatised by his first adventure that after he is immediately like. uh. can i go home. [staring into the middle distance]. and max is like Ahhh fuck yeah ok that seems like that would be for the best

but things look up after liam's brief run because max somehow ends up with yuki and his frenchmen in the tardis. it's all just very stupid very silly max doesn't really know how it all happened but he's not mad at it. probably the showrunners changed. this season's almost pure comedy. he probably does drop them back home before his next regeneration

oscar piastri (lando, mark)

oscar is a pretty dry, cool, calm and collected doctor compared to max's hotter temperament, which is a welcome change. does regenerating into an aussie have anything to do with max's fav companion being an aussie..? who knows mate

oscar works alone for a while, mostly just following up on trouble or anomalies and dealing with them. when he's investigating on earth, lando is nosy enough about it that he manages to get himself dragged into whatever oscar's doing and then yay companion. lando is good company and has occasional moments of brilliance, but his travel requests are also like 'take me somewhere cool', and since him and oscar have slightly different ideas of cool oscar ends up having to rescue lando from being executed or eaten by a dinosaur or something of the like. carlos is to lando as mickey is to rose, aka all too happy about lando running off to venture the galaxy with an alien. he probably ends up tagging along once or twice, but him and oscar never get along

while still travelling with lando, they at some point have to work with unit where lo and behold the doctor and mark meet again. in a cocktail of being probably miserable at work and thinking that oscar is far more sensible and admirable than seb ever was, mark joins them on their adventures. him and oscar are very much get-down-to-business and solve problems, and he's not super fond of lando, seeing him as kind of incompetent and a bit of a damsel in distress. on one of many visits back to earth, lando's time, mark lies and tells oscar that lando wanted to stay home with carlos, and they set off in the tardis without him. problem solved! (in mark's eyes, although lando is far from pleased)

oscar and mark are probably one of the more efficient doctor-companion duos in terms of actually getting shit done. mark's worked in unit for years and oscar's generally no-nonsense, so they mostly find problems and solve them rather than adventuring for pleasure. mark believes the doctor to be an entirely changed person from the likes of seb or even max, but he sees plenty of glimpses of the doctor he originally adventured with in oscar... how they end i'm not really sure but they prob end up dying together L

lewis hamilton pt 2 (charles)

next regeneration is lewis again wowie! he meets charles on a wartorn planet and brings him into the tardis, promising to take him to times and places where he can just. have fun and make good memories. the first few stops are fine, although with doctor who-typical chaos ensuing (which lewis assures charles is normal), but as they continue to different places, problems go from bad to worse, to the point where lewis is struggling to save everyone - not to mention that the tardis is freaking outtt. lewis eventually discovers that charles has some kind of... curse? on him, like he's a bad luck charm who brings the destruction of his home planet down tenfold on wherever he goes. he starts to try to find a solution without telling charles (having grown all too familiar with the good ol' self-sacrifice move thanks to valtteri), but charles eventually finds out too and is. naturally very upset. lewis convinces charles that they'll find a way to sever the link, charles begrudgingly agrees, but after watching too many planets crumble and hearing 'just one more stop and i'll have it' one too many times, gets sick of hurting people. he takes control of the tardis, sends himself to the end of time where there's nothing for him to ruin, and sends lewis to the supposed next location. worst part is lewis does find the answers he needed there - but he can't go back and save charles because wherever he sent himself is timelocked. #sad!

and that's all we've got so far... oh my god i'm so sorry this post is massive. you did ask but. um. sorry. next regen would possibly be kimi antonelli (with ollie companion) but that's merely a concept of an idea.......

her name was chosen because I think it represents both of her parents (dream , reaper) - dove's can symbolize freedom and happiness (dream) and also death (reaper) .

technically she's a child of reaper and dream but not shipwise , they weren't in a relationship or anything it was simply magic that created her ^^ basically reaper came to collect souls during a battle and somehow ( guys this is a wip with not enough details okay don't come after me ) accidentally touched dream's soul . because dream is immortal this didn't kill them , instead the excess overwhelming death touch thang kind of separated from dream's soul - but didn't take away from it if that makes sense? - and created dove .

dream wasn't really sure what to do and dove wasn't really noticed until after the battle but reaper said that he would take her . dream agreed tentatively and assured that they would visit and act as a parent for dove . dream didn't come by a lot but still cares about dove and dove feels the same . she doesn't really view dream as a parent but more of a long distance family member i suppose ?

family wise dove would view geno as more of a parent than dream . sibling wise she's not super close to anyone but is probably closest to raven . she's not close to anyone really as of now because she's kind of shy or not really shy but like ?? withdrawn and paranoid she'll say the wrong thing . but she can come out of her shell after some time and maybe make a sarcastic joke or two . anyways before the mini personality rant i was gonna say that dove plays with shino sometimes and always brings her back chocolate if she goes to a place with some since shino likes chocolate ^^

dove has the ability to hop aus . she had and still has a fascination with nature , so when she was 13 , she hopped to a random au she assumed was all forest and no people/monsters but then she met mika , a skeleton-animal creature who was also 13 . dove was still shy back then but not as shy and quickly warmed up to mika ( which was pretty easy - mika's personality was more open and playful , patient etc . like uh . likeable !! runs away ) . dove came back to visit mika everyday and they became best friends very quickly .

squeezing this in here mika's parents kind of ignored her so dove never met them

dove visited mika for about a year . they held hands , played tag , etc - all of those involve touching . so dove's hands were on mika and at the time she was not aware that she inhereted some portion of 'the death touch' in a more minor form - touching people would make it easier to get sick , like weaken them , and then because dove was touching mika so often that mika got weakened overtime , caught a sickness and couldn't fight it . so mika is dead </3 ya ..

um also i said the word touching a lot and i just want to clarify all NON SEXUAL thank you sorry i think that's clear but you know

dove was worried about mika's health after it got kind of bad but mika always brushed it off and they liked playing in the forest together so it kinda just got brushed away completely

dove found out that mika died from reaper . reaper didn't know who mika was at the time it was like a random comment at the dinner table about a soul reaper had collected and dove recognized the description and was like oh . oh . and then told reaper and now she knows that she has part death touch and just doesn't touch people

yeah mika's death kinda fucked her up :/ she was really depressed for a while and it's better now (current dove) but sometimes it's still hard

dove has hard feelings about death because of mika and doesn't want to be seen as a reaper so at some point she ditches the hood . also despite her harsh feelings towards death she cares about her dad ( reaper ) a lot and there can be some distance between them but they still love eachother ^^

i'd say her style as she gets older is like whimsigoth .. dark blues and yellows maybe

as i said she's not super close with dream but there are no hard feelings towards eachother so she stays with them sometimes like overnight a day or two . that goes into bonding with half-siblings

I think he's lying

Well... lying is a strong word but he likely didn't mean he is literally rotting

If he's moving around, has a silhouette of his face, and can talk, i don't think he's rotting per se.

Don't get me wrong he's definitely fucked up, but rotting? Probably not or at least not in the way I'd imagine a zombie or something.

Rotting happens when someone dies and can no longer support their body with nutrients. Cancer on the other hand, happens when you're alive and feeding it.

I think he'd just chronically at war with his own body.

Il dottore, as much as I hate the bastard, is definitely smart and/or insane enough to find a way to help keep his body functioning even if his organs are fighting cancer. For example: prosthetics. Our world all ready has people with artificial bones hearts and even machines that kept people breathing even if they were crude.

Imagine if we had an evil scientist with an immortal test subject who desperately needed medical attention because of cancer? As much as I hate it we would probably have a lot more efficient solutions because ethics wouldn't have restricted the nutcase.

In one of the voice lines of Mika (I think it was him), he said something about the captain having blue eyes, if he has been actually rotting for that long would he even still have eyes? Dottore is crazy enough where he could probably grow new eyes for someone if they need arises.

I think he was simply simplifying what the hell is happening. As we age our DNA does get weaker and does cause mutations like cancer which in a way is rotting. The immortals in genshin talk about erosion, cancer is pretty much just the erosion of our DNA.

He definitely doesn't look great from all the tissue he probably has had cut apart and put back together again to keep him functional. Surgery, even by ethical doctors, can leave scars. If he's had cancer and been fighting it all this time? Yeah... that's going to be a lot of scar tissue.

(Also! In hindsight it's painfully obvious that he's from Khaenri'ah, I can't think of a time we've seen a star like the one on his helmet and it hasn't been at least vaguely related to someone who at the very least has connection to it.)

And it's very possible that dainsleif has found a way to get true immortality so he can fight the abyss without worrying about becoming weaker or, that weird blue mask is where the cancer is and he's managed to confine it to that part of his body.

So guys gals and nonbinary pals, he's not a skeleton, he's been fighting cancer and he said he is rotting to simplify the conversation.

That's assuming I'm right of course, I'm just a moth on the wall after all, it's good for y'all to not take me too seriously

Henry: Apollo

- I originally actually thought something different but a discord oomf changed my mind. Apollo is the god of the sun, healing, and he’s also v bisexual and blonde (like Henry) so I thought it matched

Charlotte: Athena

- no explanation needed here. Athena is the goddess of wisdom, practical reason, and crafts and I feel like whenever Henry/ Ray jumped into a crazy plan to take down a villain, she was always there to hold them back and explain the risks

Jasper: Hermes

- this one I was iffy about..I feel like a lot of Hermes kids are sort of.. bottom of the barrel since all the new kids are dumped in their cabin and I felt Jasper might have maybe felt the same way since he’s always overlooked BUT I also found out Hermes is the god of sleep (like Jasper’s superpower)

Piper: Aphrodite

- Yes, Piper does have a lot of natural beauty but I feel like she def also resonates with the fact that Aphrodite is the goddess of war. Her beauty AND her love for fighting are both what makes her a daughter of Aphrodite

Ray: Zeus

- Idk he just gives main character energy.. he’s kind of seen as the ruler/ protector of the world and I feel like his role of superhero of Swellview matches that exactly, just on a smaller level. I feel like in the books at least Zeus was also sort of petty and held grudges and I feel like Ray totally does that too.

Schwoz: Hephaestus

- Not much explanation needed here.. kids of Hephaestus (like Leo) like building complex machinery, fixing broken things, just being good at mechanics.. and Schwoz is known for building the most random (yet useful) machines that just come in handy for specific situations

Bose: Aphrodite

- Multiple times in the show, Bose has used his beauty to his advantage (like when he was in the Chess club or when he was distracting Credenza’s girlfriends) and he’s even pointed out how he’s disgusted by his own beauty (his “ugly dimples” or his hair that is “too soft”) so I feel he may be similar to Piper McLean, another daughter of Aphrodite, who actually does not like her beauty

Chapa: Ares/ Hunter of Artemis

- Duh. Ares god of war, do I have to say anything else? Now for Hunter of Artemis I feel like Chapa would be more than willing to give up being with boys in order to fight with Artemis and be immortal. Plus I can see her being really good with a bow.

Mika: Athena

- Similar to Charlotte (prob bc her character was based on Charlotte’s haha) but multiple times the other characters have pointed out that she’s always the one who has a plan.. she’s always the one to think logically before jumping into something and in fact most of the times they’ve jumped into a plan that the others have made (ex: Chapa’s plan in the last episode), it has failed miserably

Miles: Dionysus

- this one I’m also iffy about! I was mainly going off the fact that Dionysus is the god of religious ectsasy and ritual madness and was thinking about how Miles started a cult during his time off of DF which is very similar

i got into f1 through my sister who wouldn't stop yapping about it throughout most of 2023! she finally made my dad and i sit down for a race, a replay of the 2023 baku gp, and that intrigued me enough to watch the brazilian gp that was happening that weekend!! i've been stuck here since 😊

as for classic f1, i don't really know exactly? it was more of a gradual thing. i watched a few documentaries (schumacher, senna, ferrari: race to immortality, superswede) and read books and just continued to learn more about the history! i started with fixating on mika häkkinen and makkinen and then i obviously ended up fixating on prosenna and now here we are 😊

The next generation of Warner children. Zany, Minky (Mika), & Lulu (Ludo). I think I did a good job with these guys. They’re still quite young and don’t grow their horns til they’re a bit older. They are partly immortal, only able to pass on from old age (around 200 years). They have the same abilities of a slapstick cartoon and dragon (and other animal) -like qualities from their parents. God knows what their species is at this point. At least they look adorable 🥰.

Zany (13 yr): Has an appreciation for metalworking and engineering. Usually makes things accidentally explode or catch fire in the making of a new project. Considered the most laid back out of all his siblings but will take charge when needed as to not face terrible consequences. He can be often disorganized and a bit of a smart a** when it comes to his everyday life but is intuitive, intelligent, and kind to the people he cares about.

Minky (Mika, 11 yr): Often known as the most kind hearted out of all of her siblings, Minky does not typically to like people and prefers her family and animals over everyone else. Some of her favorite things to do is pottery, collecting cool rocks, and reading books about dinosaurs. Just like her mother, she can be quiet and the most responsible, thinking about the consequences before any action is taken. She is mostly the one to try and make sure her brothers stay in line while not trying to be too mean about it.

Lulu (Ludo, 8 yr): Probably the most chaotic out of all of them is Lulu. He is the wild card of the group, having to accidentally eat many things food and not food out of hunger or sheer boredom (much like his dad). He spends his past times coming up with pranks and jokes to annoy his parents and siblings (most of the time being caught by his mother or sister before he can succeed). His favorite past times are playing video games, practicing magic tricks, and community theater.

Zany is one of my favorite designs based on appearances alone.
