Character Profile: Izumi Sena

Character Inspiration: Ballad of Spring Tales

Classification: Ribbon Flower Spirit
Biography:
Many years ago, before corruption touched the island, Izumi roamed around doing whatever he pleased. One day, a man who could see Spirits and was entranced by his beauty sealed him in a terrarium. Izumi has only grown weaker over the years, passed into Shu's care. He longs to see the world, but his weakness is a problem...
Relationships:
Shu: He cannot communicate directly with Shu, so other Spirits act as his occasional company and relay messages. Izumi was there while the mansion was being built and remained trapped when Shu confessed he could not make an appropriate body.
Mika: While conversations are short, Izumi would rather have some company than no company. He's taken to teasing Mika just to see how he reacts, otherwise the interactions would be much too bland. He's been bored for so long, after all.
Midori: While the two meet later on, Midori is the only one that could possibly be willing to have Izumi around and not be immediately corrupted while traveling. Though the two's relationship is tense, they're making progress. Not that they have a choice.
Just a year before Izumi was sealed away, he met a Doll gifted in metalwork. The two met up frequently and spoke about the city and swords the Doll made. Though Izumi was sealed away unexpectedly without a goodbye, and it has since been about 30 years.

Ghost!Cole and Zane is my favorite variant of glacier because they're both functionally immortal. There's a tragedy in that when their friends are not. Not that they age normally by any means.
Queerplatonic glacier is where it's at! I love their bond and how they look at each other with so much love and appreciation for the other. Why does it get so much hate? :'( oni trilogy Zane and Cole moments warm my heart...
Age gaps don't work the same way for nonhuman characters. Also age gaps represent a power imbalance of wiseness & money & stuff. Zane doesn't have any of that really given all he did for the better part of 40 years was be a son and/or caretaker for Dr Julien isolated in a hollowed-out tree lab in a forest full of monsters.
The idea behind all of these ships is "relative age". Zane was designed to be 16-20 years old, I assume he rebuilt himself to be an "adult" robot. Zane and Cole are both young adult characters, they are both in the same relative age group. There is also a group of people who just hate all ships with nindroids because Robots. 🤷 I think Nya and Pixal is also a fun ship; they have a lot in common.
Also, also: It was heavily implied that the time he spent without his elemental power core was time he spent without a soul or complex/independent thought or emotion. We don't know how it took for the master of ice to find them, but it was long enough for Dr. Julien to know Zane was acting off. Which means it wasn't shortly after his construction. Zane was either invented before or during the serpentine war, not that we know how long the war was, but the master of ice did arrive after the war, as did Wu.
The point is Zane was never mentally 40, he had amnesia and defaults to being a late teen or young adult in his programming. He's a robot, being physically 40 doesn't mean anything beyond being older tech. He can't be mentally 40 because he doesn't age, to be X age you need to be capable of aging. Zane had to expand his programming with the ice power core in order to do more than just playing with toys and cleaning up around the lab Rock-Megaman style. Also he was rebuilt so he isn't even physically 40. All the ice emperor stuff is weird because he lost his memory again and was being manipulated by two evil sources simultaneously. He's ageless. The show pretends it never happened, so we might as well do the same.
(Sorry, sorry, this turned into a zane analysis lecture for a hot minute. When people take an ageless character and go oooh ohh age gap, it just gets on my nerves. It's a simplistic misinterpretation of what that even means. That only really applies to organic beings who can age and can have power over the other from it. I got it out of my system now.)

Go on about the universe thing please (if you wish), I’m interested
The moment I have been waiting for... 😈😈
Disclaimer: everything in this post is part of a fictional world, IT IS NOT REAL!!! (well except for me, I'm real ☹️☹️) AND WARNING, KIND OF CRINGE...
So, this universe starts with me (yes, I'm the "main character", very cringe I know). I was (NOT AM) 10, with an emerging interest in history. All of the sudden, I gain powers? (So cringe bro). These powers allowed me to do a lot of things, except give myself immortality and many other things that would make me a "Mary Sue" lmao (a Mary Sue is a character with no flaws and/or is extremely overpowered I believe). These powers were inspired by Creator Luni, a character in a game I used to play religiously: Gacha World 😭😭😭. Basically a floating pad that I tap on to do/make whatever I want.
The character in question:
Ok anyways... So since I found out that I could revive as many people as I wanted (except for people who died when they were under 18), I got an idea: REVIVE THE UNITED STATES PRESIDENTS!!! Why? Because 10 year old me (BTW I AM NOT 10 RIGHT NOW.) wanted to get to know the country's former leaders (kinda stupid reason but hey it's whatever). How did I do it? On the 22nd of August, I teleported to each and every presidents gravesite at exactly 12AM, somehow get to the graves that were blocked off, block off cameras (if there were any cameras), and do the "ritual". (WARNING FOR BLOOD HERE) There's only three things you need for a revival ritual: your own blood, a pan to dip your hand palm first into the blood (it doesn't need to be a pan) and bandages to cover the wound. That sounds very weird, I know 😭 (And also, I learned about this "ritual" beforehand). This is how I did it: I used my powers to sharpen my fingernails into literal claws and cut my left arm to get some blood into the pan (btw the cut wasn't huge, just enough to be able to make a bloody handprint). I put my hand into the pan and then slapped my BLOODY HANDPRINT onto the name on the gravestone/coffin of every president. But, I left a tiny vial of my blood at Lincoln's tomb in the burial room(?), because I wanted to be found out. After the handprint is placed on the gravestone/coffin, it CANNOT be washed off and it will manifest for 12 hours after it is placed. After it is done manifesting, the handprint will dissapear. Since I did it at 12AM, they all came back to life at 12PM. (Joanna, if you wanted to be found out, why did you block the cameras? Well, I didn't want to be seen, but found out through the blood test.)
When every president woke up, they either woke up above their grave, or in their coffin in which they could easily open in nothing but a white robe. Since these gravesites and presidential libraries are open to the public, many people witnessed a former president spawn out of thin air in front of their own eyes.
Another thing about reviving a person is that these revivals can have side effects. These side effects are what's known as a "resurrection aftereffect" This can alter the resurrected person's physical and/or emotional functions and/or features, it can be a drastic or small change. The only president that was affected by this just so happened to be Franklin Pierce, but I will talk about the changes later. I learned about these prior to reviving the presidents, and I wondered WHICH ONES would be affected. When I found out they were revived, I sent the clothes they wore to them in a matter of seconds, so they wouldn't be stuck in a white robe. Three other things about my powers is that I can alter the age in which they come back in. In other words, I can choose which age they would be when resurrected, and they will be stuck at that age physically and mentally, but they would still retain memories from after the age they are stuck in. For example, Ronald Reagan died at 93 years old, when I brought him back, I changed his age to 75. The other thing is that I can remove diseases, STDs, and any other physical problem that a person had (NOT INCLUDING MENTAL DISORDERS AND/OR ILLNESSES). So in this universe, FDR CAN WALK (although he may need to regain the ability to do so) AND JFK DOESN'T HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT BACK PROBLEMS AND OTHER DISEASES HE HAD???!!!?!????!? (And also, I can restore their teeth, so Washington no longer has dentures... 😈😈) The last thing is that when I age, I receive more abilities.
As expected, Lincoln found the vial I left that had a note on it "Send to a lab for testing", he definitely doesn't know what a lab is, so he just held onto it for now. When the president at the time, Donald Trump, caught wind of the news, he ordered a meeting of the former presidents. He sent government officials to go get the other presidents via transportation (obviously lol). Some of them were transported via car or the LITERAL PRESIDENT'S AIR FORCE ONE (or um the president's personal plane) because yknow Ronnie is literally in California. After all of the presidents were taken to the White House, they held the meeting. This meeting talked about where the former presidents would reside, and a myriad of other things. During this meeting, Lincoln presented the vial of my blood because he had no idea what to do with it lol. It was taken to a lab for testing. They concluded that the presidents would reside in the White House (which would require a bit of renovations I think lol), but they would not engage in the political affairs of today, unless ABSOLUTELY necessary.
A few weeks later, the test results came back. When they saw who it was, Donald ordered the government officials to come and take me to the White House for "questioning" or an interrogation, if you will. When they arrived at my house, my parents were obviously confused as to why they were here. They told them that they were sent by the president to get me, but assured them that I wasn't in trouble and showed my parents proof that they were legit officials. But before I left, I wanted to pack some things.
When I got to Washington D.C, I was taken into the White House. First, I was taken to meet the presidents. When they saw me, most of them were very bewildered. Some just stared at me, the others talked amongst themselves. All of them but Pierce (once again, I will get to this soon). They were very confused as to how and why a 10 year old girl brought them all back to life. After all of that, I was taken to a room for questioning. The officials and Trump asked me a myriad of questions, but I may need some help with coming up with the exact questions, as I am going to write a document going into more detail about this universe (Doodle, I'm looking at you... 👀👀).
Anyways, after this, the news of who was behind the revivals came out to the public. So I basically became a celebrity! Because of this, I wanted to make content on YouTube, but I had to get my parents to manage the channel for me. I wanted to choose 3 presidents to come onto the channel with me and record videos, whether it be informative or purely comical! The three presidents I chose were: Abraham Lincoln (He's one of the BEST presidents, no really!), Thomas Jefferson (because I did research about the dude, and I wanted to know MORE!), and Franklin Pierce (he interested me the second I found out about his existence, which was online and before the revivals, AND because of the resurrection aftereffects).
I informed all of the presidents about the important things that happened after they died (like WW1, WW2, 9/11, etc. And I'd teach the prezzes that died before the civil war happened about it too lol).
Now... LET'S TALK ABOUT THE EFFECTS PIERCE WENT THROUGH... 😈😈😈 Firstly, Franklin lost his ability to properly express emotion (his facial expression is literally blank, it was like he couldn't move his face to express emotion, but he could still speak. He can move his face, but can't express emotion somehow.). Secondly, his voice became void of ANY tone that would convey any sort of feelings. His voice sounded freakishly similar to a robot, it was still deep though. But CERTAIN tones (like when you ask a question) are still present. And lastly (this one is a small, physical change), his tongue grew longer??? (huh???????).
And most of the time, except for the videos, he'd avoid me, especially when I try to make a "friendly advance" (like an arm hug or smth). I initially didn't know why, but it WASN'T because he didn't like me and after I turned 12, he started avoiding me less (The reason as to why Pierce avoided me was because he believed he was cursed, and if we made an entirely platonic, emotional bond, I would die before December 19th, which is my birthday. But specifically December 19th, 2021 in which I turned 12. I have a WIP document going into full detail of the specific event btw lol).
There are other notable events, that I haven't written about YET.. 😈😈 Anyways, later on, I added two more presidents to the main group (John F. Kennedy, and Ronald Reagan!). And some time in early or late 2024, I bring PHINEAS GAGE INTO ALL OF THIS?????? (I started developing an interest in him, and then ended up reviving him. 😰😰😰😰😰)
And yes, I do face a bit of scrutiny for reviving them, because MOST of them weren't the best people (it's not my fault man, I knew little to NOTHING about them prior to this😢😢)... But I'm not gonna ignore it, being ignorant is NOT good when it comes to these types of topics (slavery, and other stuff 😰)... And don't worry, I end up "fixing" most of them (like changing their view on people that aren't white like them because being racist is the equivalent of being a LOSER lmao).
Wow, that took a bit to jot down (I didn't do this all in one day LOL)... Whatever though, it was (probably) worth it... 😈🧐 I can't believe I have finally released this universe for the entirety of Tumblr to see. 😰😰
This is what autism does to a person...

Hey there!
Name’s Stanley Pines, though you can just call me Stan. Figured it’s about time I give this Internet thing a shot— after all, everyone’s on it these days, right?
Now, I’m not the brains of the operation, that’s my brother Ford. He’s the one with all the fancy titles nowadays, but I’m the guy who gets things done. We travel through dimensions pretty regularly. Y’know, fighting off whatever weird alien or monster decides to show its ugly face. Nothing we can’t handle, of course!
PINES! PINES! PINES!
Anyway, I’m not one for long speeches. Just thought I’d introduce myself. Stick around, who knows what might happen next.
See ya around! - Stanley Pines
OOC: OH WOW THIS BLOG WAS LONG OVERDUE- anyway here's the companion blog for Stanley to my other blog @gftimelord because I actually couldn't help myself HAHAHA! My main blog is @matrixbearer2024! Lee is mostly still same old same old, he's just a hidden genius and dubbed 'carer' to Doc. In terms of the Doctor Who franchise, he's similar to any timelord's companion(e.g. Bill, Clara, Donna, etc.) I'll mostly have him set post-weirdmageddon but I'm open to shifting whichever point in time for questions or RPs, have fun everyone! P.S. Down below are insights to his character and inventory for anyone interested or planning to interact with him!
Lee's inventory:
Multitool:
Lock Picking: Designed to pick locks of all kinds, from standard doors to more advanced mechanisms.
Electronic Fiddling: Can be used to tinker with small electronics and gadgets, though Lee prefers more practical solutions over technology when he can.
Simple Mechanical Fixes: Handy for quick mechanical repairs, Lee uses this when brute force isn’t the best option.
The Doctor(AU Stanford)’s Old Blaster:
Energy Weapon: A basic blaster for ranged combat, though Lee doesn’t often use it unless necessary. He prefers the physical satisfaction of a fistfight but keeps it for emergencies.
Adjustable Power: The blaster has multiple settings for stunning, damaging, or disabling targets, though Lee usually keeps it simple.
Brass Knuckles:
Close-Combat Weapon: Lee’s weapon of choice in most situations. He’s skilled at hand-to-hand combat and uses these to pack an extra punch in a fight.
Durability: Built to withstand multiple hits and heavy use, these knuckles are well-worn and reliable.
Zygon Forcefield:
Personal Shield: A protective barrier which protects him from the worst injuries in dangerous situations. Lee often uses this out of caution which makes him ridiculously hard to kill and all the more dangerous in close-combat situations.
Camouflage: For a temporary time, the advanced zygon technology refracts and manipulates light to turn Lee invisible to the naked eye. This can be activated and disabled manually.
Energy Absorption: The shield absorbs incoming energy-based attacks but has a limited capacity before needing to recharge.
Repair Box:
Immortality: A set of nanobots that constantly repairs and heals injuries on Lee’s body, making him functionally immortal. Age and illness won’t kill him, but fatal injuries still pose a threat.
Healing Factor: Non-fatal wounds heal rapidly, allowing Lee to recover quickly from injuries that would incapacitate others.
Autonomy: Lee made Ford promise never to bring him back once he chooses to end it, granting him control over his immortality.
Watch/Log Recorder:
Travel Logs: Keeps track of multiverse coordinates and records short, practical notes on their journeys.
Dimensional Awareness: Helps Lee keep track of which dimension he's in, providing useful information about their location and any notable anomalies.
Communicator: Think like how a smart-watch can send and recieve calls and messages, his watch functions the same way with it's other added functions.
Coin:
Fidget Tool: Lee keeps this coin as a simple distraction, flipping it when he’s thinking or waiting. It’s a grounding tool for him during tense moments.
Memory Keepsake: While he never talks about it, the coin holds sentimental value for Lee(Soos gave it to him).
Stack of Cards:
Games: Used to pass the time or engage in games of skill, these cards are always on hand. Lee’s excellent at card games and has a natural sleight of hand.
Distraction: In tight spots, Lee’s been known to use the cards to distract or mislead enemies.
Satchel (Hidden Under His Blazer):
Storage for Small Gadgets: This satchel contains his coin, cards, and other small items. Lee keeps it concealed under his blazer for easy access.
Minimalist: True to Lee’s practical nature, he carries only what he needs, keeping the satchel lightweight and easy to hide.
Bigger On The Inside: The bag functions like a small bag of holding without the weight restraint, Lee can fit a surprising amount of items in it thanks to how it functions.
Lee's Appearance:
Lee wears a dark brown blazer mostly to keep himself warm, also having more layers on adventures when clothes are prone to tearing is generally a bonus!
He also sports a red beanie with his signature icon(the oyster) on it since it reminds him of home, also because Mabel gave it to him.
Started wearing gloves to protect his hands more since his knuckles and palms constantly get scratched up from all his roughousing(and fighting).
His sachel is always tucked under his blazer out of precaution(to avoid being pickpocketed or it being stolen off him), his pockets are more for his hands than anything.
Wears boots under his trousers since he thinks they're just more practical.

Key Quotes About Lee:
"If it's stupid but it works, it ain't stupid."
"Work hard, play hard."
"Rule number one: The Doctor lies."
"Good men don’t need rules."
"Never be cruel, never be cowardly. Hate? That’s just dumb. Love’s a whole lot wiser. Be kind, even when it’s hard."
"I do what I do ‘cause it’s right. It’s decent. And above all, it’s kind. If I run today, good people are gonna die. But if I stand and fight, some might make it. Maybe not all, maybe not long, but that’s good enough for me."
"Brains and cruelty don’t mix, never have, never will."
"Sure, a straight line’s faster, but c’mon, where’s the fun in that?"
"Don’t go flexin’ muscle for no reason. You’ll just embarrass yourself. But if you’re mad? Yeah, go ahead, throw a punch."
"You know when folks tell you everything’s gonna be fine, but you don’t buy it? Well, I’m telling you— everything’s gonna be fine."
"This is me, right here, right now. What matters is who I am, not who I used to be."
"In all my time across the multiverse, I ain’t met a single person who wasn’t important. Not once."
"There’s no point in bein' grown up if you can’t be a kid sometimes."
"You don’t just quit. You don’t let stuff happen. You stand up and say, 'No!' You do what’s right, even when everyone else runs for the hills."
"I’m not runnin’ away from anything, I’m runnin’ to it. Before it fades out forever."
"Great men are made in fire. Sometimes, it’s the ones who light the match that never get the credit."
"My back’s killin’ me. Guess it’s ‘cause I’m stuck carryin' the weight of all these deadbeats who crush everyone else’s dreams."
"Call me by my full name again, and I’ll remove your organs in alphabetical order. Got it?"
"There’s better stuff to do today. Dying? That can wait."
"Letting things get to you? That’s called bein' alive. Best part of it, really. If you’re alive right now, you’re doin' fine."
"I’m always gonna be the optimist. The guy hopin' for the impossible, dreamin’ about what comes next."
"We’re all stories, y’know? So let’s make this one a good one."
"Everything’s gotta end at some point. If it didn’t, nothin’ would ever start."
"Life’s a mix of good and bad. The bad doesn’t ruin the good, and the good doesn’t fix the bad. It’s all just... there."
"The more we learn about each other, the more we learn about ourselves."
"Yellin’ at the world ain’t gonna make it better."
"Somethin’ doesn’t add up? Well, let’s go poke it with a stick!"
"We all change, all the time. That’s how it is. And it’s okay. Just remember who you used to be, and keep movin'."
"Funny thing about stories… feels like you don’t make ‘em up. More like you stumble across ‘em. You keep diggin’ and writin’, knowin’ that somewhere out there, there’s that one perfect ending that you never saw comin’, but was always meant to be. It’s like you’ve been headed for that spot the whole time, without even knowin’ it."
"Y’know, for some people, it ain’t the big moments that matter. It’s the small, beautiful ones. That’s what life’s really about—those little sparks that make it worth all the trouble."
"We’re all capable of changin’ in ways we never imagined. But here’s the thing—ya don’t gotta lose who you are to do it. We grow, we evolve, and we still hold on to the parts of us that matter most. You get to choose who you wanna be next, and still respect who you’ve been."

this is kinda venty so feel free to ignore if its unwelcomed. but. i am a dib fictive who's in a qpr with our zim fictive. and im soooooooo fucking sick of being accused of being a proshipper for it. we are real people for fucks sake!!!!!!!! its either "ewwww you support zadr???? that's so gross don't you know dib is 12" (im 17 and zim is whatever the functionally immortal equivalent of a 17 year old is) or "omg I love zadr you guys are just like my ship so cute"
i am putting you all in the pit!!!!!!!! leave us alone!!!!!!!!
this is probably very weird but we also have a dib fictive who is dating a zim fictive (different to a qpr ik, but kind of similar in how ppl treat it) in our system (except the zim fictive used to a human brainmade alter but eventually became a fictive later on so he has a functional Human age and is actually a year younger than our dib) so we understand what you mean. It's really frustrating overall seeing people call introjects relationships ships, but even then ZaDr just isn't a proship in general (since zims age cannot be compared to a humans, though it is highly suggested he is a child because he's meant to be equal to dib, who is also a child) so it's just stupid when people get upset over it. And like yeah, people gushing over fictives relationships is just weird, like leave us aloneeee. You're real and you don't deserve that kind of treatment, it's just shitty when people treat fictives as if they're fictional characters

You’re on the third book already?? Omg!! Do you mind if I ask your thoughts?
I just started it! My library has the audiobooks 😅 And ABSOLUTELY I will share my thoughts!
First, on the audiobooks themselves, I LOVE the narrator. She does a fantastic job with the dialogue and pacing. My only complaint is that she mispronounces Sidheag's name. She says "sid-hey" instead of "she-ah" (or "she-ak"??).
The books themselves are so so much fun. The cast is obviously the best part, and I love how every character, even the minor ones, stands out. I keep getting a couple of the teachers mixed up, but otherwise they're all very distinct characters who serve the story well. Sophronia's friend group is delightful. And Sophronia herself was a pleasant surprise. Based on her introduction, I was worried we'd get the usual fare of a girl going "Oh, but I don't want to go to finishing school and be made into a lady! I want to wear trousers and climb trees and read books and be independent!" and then sulk for the whole story. Sophronia took it as an intriguing challenge and leaned into the quirkiness, and doesn't complain about corsets and dresses all the time, which I loved. (As the overarching story progresses, she's turning more toward the very special, very cool young person poised to stun the world with her prowess, which I'm iffy about, but I still love her character.)
And I ADORE a good steampunk Victorian setting, and Carriger writes hers so well. Some reviews point out that this is a YA spin-off of an existing adult series, so she spends less time explaining the world of the story, but it doesn't feel like the world-building is lacking; for me it's a perfect balance of explaining some details and letting the reader extrapolate the rest. The characters have relatively historically appropriate sensibilities and tastes and approaches to life (insofar as they can when vampires and werewolves exist), which I really appreciate.
The writing itself? Splendid. There's fun and hijinks balanced by moments of gravity, like when Sophronia realizes this isn't all a game and her actions can have devastating consequences. The pacing flows so well without feeling rushed. I would have liked to see more of the classes, especially in the first story, but it makes sense why those were summarized in favor of developing character arcs.
The only thing that confuses me is character ages. Sophronia starts out at 14, and I assumed it was a young-ish 14, but then about a year later she's already 16 and I don't think there was any mention of her birthday. I do like her being a little older given the developing romance plot line, but I'm still a bit lost there. (Also, this is just personal taste, but it's weird to me that the werewolves are functionally immortal and [I think??] women don't turn into werewolves. Weird choices to me.)
Oh, and I'm not a fan of the grumbling about how restrictive corsets and skirts are but, again, that's mostly personal taste lol.
Anyway, it's all very fun and light-hearted and a good change from the volume of horror I read in October. I would love to hear more of your thoughts on them! But keep in mind that I'm only like four chapters into the third book.
#I'll admit you mentioned this series...last week? the week before? and I immediately checked my library#that's usually all I need to bump a book up on my TBR#(I am now avoiding eye contact with the printed books I picked up from the library at the beginning of the month)#asks#mine#2024 reading list#Finishing School#Etiquette and Espionage#Gail Carriger

BEGGING U TO ELABORATE ABOUT THE WHIFFERDILLS
OKAY OKAY listen. listen. I'll give you the brief version.
Whifferdills, originally from the Doctor Who comics, where things can get already get really weird and conceptual, are one of the most alien alien species in the Whoniverse, even by comics standards. They're shapeshifters, right? Nothing new or strange in sci-fi. Except usually when a shapshifting character or species is plot relevant and lore-important, the writer will write in some kind of limitation to their powers. Some kind of set of rules. But when it came to Whifferdills, they just... didn't.
Whifferdills can be anything. Literally. They can be inanimate objects. They can be puddles of liquid. They can be microbes. They can be the size of mountains. They don't seem to have one set default form that they revert back to, they're supposed to be always changing. Frobisher staying in one form most of the time is established to be him just being a little freak by his own species's standards, and even then, the form he stays in is. A penguin. Because he just likes penguins. Whifferdills don't age, at least not physically, unless they actively choose to, because they have conscious control over what their own bodies do at all times. They are functionally immortal. They are almost impossible to kill. Try to throw them off a cliff and they'll shapeshift instantly into something that can fly. Try to drown them and they'll shapeshift into something with gills. Throw them into a vacuum and they'll shapeshift into something that doesn't need to breathe at all. They don't inherently need to breathe at all. Shoot them or stab them and they'll just shapeshift the wound closed. In his first story Frobisher shapeshifts into a burger and survives someone literally eating part of him and is entirely unaffected outside of being mildly annoyed.
All this to say, Whifferdills are weird as hell and OP as shit. There is literally no reason to assume they reproduce sexually or organically. Why would they even? How would pregnancy even work, in a being whose body is by design supposed to be ever-changing? And how can you spend half your existence living as insects or cash registers and still have a concept of gender? Again, why would they even?
And to bring up just a few specific moments: in one comic, Frobisher (in penguin form) mistakenly believes he's laid an egg, and The Doctor (with the air of someone who's had to explain this before) tells Frobisher that this is impossible, because he's a male penguin, and Frobisher still seems a little confused by this. And to be clear, Frobisher is supposed to be highly intelligent. Frobisher is a notorious wanted criminal. Frobisher is a professional private detective. The Doctor sees Frobisher more as an equal and a partner than a companion. Frobisher plays chess against the TARDIS for fun. And Frobisher struggles to remember the difference between male and female penguins, the species he has a vaguely autistic special interest in.
And in the Big Finish audio The Maltese Penguin, Frobisher makes an offhand comment about he finds the humanoid form particularly tricky, because they have all these "odd dangly bits" that he can't see the purpose of.
I put it to you that Whifferdills do not even have a concept of biological sex or gender, because it's just so far outside of their perception of life and the universe. The TARDIS just translates Frobisher as "he" and Francine as "she" for the benefit of us the audience and the benefit of people like Peri, who in return could not even begin to fully comprehend the lived reality of a Whifferdill.

i think something important we all have to remember about characters is that they are not real. but they are symbolic representations of types of humans. especially when you incorporate fantasy into the mix, where these representations become a bit less literal.
so, like, when you have characters that are immortal/ageless/reincarnations/vampires/whatever, who are, on paper, much older than they actually look... it really just comes down to "if they walk like a duck and talks like a duck, then it's probably a duck."
basically what i mean is if a character is functionally a teenager within a story, emotionally and societally and such, then for all intents and purposes they ARE a teenager. because the thing that they are coded to symbolize is a teenager. regardless of fantasy factors that dont exist in the real world. maybe the closest thing is someone who is an adult but looks young (i still get mistaken for 16, its a struggle) but thats a false equivalence, you are still an adult, you cant be coded as a teenager as if this was a story (though you can certainly be immature lol).
conversely, "1000 year old dragon lolis" are coded as children. they represent children. no matter how many spins you try to put on it, that is a symbolic representation of a child. there's a huge difference between the reality of an adult who just happens to look young, and the fantasy of a child who by some loophole can consent. because thats the intent the character was created with.
obviously im not saying this applies to ALL characters who are immortal children though. it can be used for all types of different effects, like, for example, pride in fullmetal alchemist mangahood uses this to enhance his Creepyness factor, due to the disconnect between his appearance and his demeanor. he walks like a duck but doesnt talk like a duck. there are for sure ways to do this trope that arent creepy in the other sense.
same thing goes for immortal teenagers- once you introduce a power imbalance into the mix that makes them functionally just an adult who looks young, thats when the dynamic can begin to feel creepy. and its a tricky thing to pull off, because you have to balance the immortality with the teenager-ness, and it seems like lots of life experience will often contradict the latter. but its not impossible (at least in writing). a character can be more knowledgeable without having power over the other, and i think it largely comes down to how theyre treated socially too. if they have just as much power as any other teenager in their society, then theres not really an imbalance. how theyre treated by other characters will inform the viewers on how to treat them by extension.
like, weird example, but the vampire girl from hotel transylvania (i forgot her name, i watched it when i was 12) is like 100 years older than her love interest. but shes still a pretty stereotypical teenager who has to listen to adam sandler her father, and has the same amount of power in this situation as any other teenager would. the movie sets up the leads as being on the same level socially so theres no issue (this may have been made extra clear because its a kids movie, which is why its an easy example). contrast this with twlight where edward obviously has power over bella specifically due to his vampire-ness, and thats why their dynamic is one that many people find uncomfortable because the fantasy age gap plays a part in this.
but yeah at the end of the day thats why id never, like, call c.c from code geass a pedophile for kissing lelouch (utilitarian reasons or otherwise), but that's also exactly why i'd call isekai man #208 a pedophile for having a loli love interest. these characters are not real, they are symbols. you cannot take symbols literally (thats oxymoronic) by just looking at the numbers of their ages, you have to look at what they represent of the real world inside the story. what does this fantasy immortal SAY about age and such. what do their actual dynamics reflect in the real world.
fiction isnt reality, but its a mirror that reflects it. sometimes a funhouse mirror, but you can still see whats being reflected if you look closely.
anyway please dont take this as any sort of discourse, i really am just musing about how fiction Works, and how different tropes apply in different ways and such. this isnt a response to anything or anyone im just thinking out loud. peace ✌️

Pulp Crossover Fodder: Orochi
Orochi created by Kazuo Umezz in his "Orochi" manga series, there's also a live action movie.
Orochi (presumably named after the multi-headed snake monster) appears to be a generically pretty young Japanese woman. She can pass for anywhere between 16 and 22 depending on what she's wearing. Her actual age is unknown, though she's been around since at least the 18th Century. Her origin and the source of her powers are also unknown.
Orochi possesses a strong curiosity about the lives of ordinary humans, and wanders Japan in search of interesting events. She seems to possess some sense of who is going to be interesting, experiencing it as having her attention drawn to a particular person. Once her attention is drawn, she will follow that person's activities off and on for years or decades until she learns why her attention was drawn. (It's not stated, but she also seems to have a sense for when to dip back into a person's life.)
Orochi's powers are ill-defined, but she has several known feats.
Orochi can, by touching a person's forehead, alter their short-term memory to make it appear that she is someone who is supposed to be there. She often uses this to get temporary jobs as a maid or nurse. (All indications are that she is a competent nurse but obviously her licensing is questionable.) She can also search the memories of unconscious people by touching them, seeing their flashbacks. She can also see what's going on inside buildings she's previously been in by seeing through the eyes of paintings or photographs.
At one point, Orochi attempted to bring a dead person back to life. Him coming back wrong might be an issue with her inexperience (she'd never tried it before) or an inherent flaw in the process.
The one known limitation to Orochi's agelessness is that every hundred years she must sleep for two decades to maintain her immortality. If she takes grievous bodily damage, this can trigger the need for sleep early. (Internal evidence suggests her most recent sleep was approximately 1990-2010.) During her most recent sleep, Orochi found her consciousness inhabiting but unable to control or affect a human host.
While Orochi is fully capable of functioning within human society, she does not form long-term friendships with mortals, and is often just a face in the crowd. She seldom interferes in people's lives, being content to observe.
It's not known if Orochi can leave Japan; perhaps she finds that nation sufficient to whet her curiosity.
The most obvious crossover potential is for a long-lived or exceptionally perceptive character to realize that Orochi has appeared multiple times near strange events and hasn't aged. That person then might delve into her secrets, or be distracted by the weird goings on that she's currently observing.

POWERS & ABILITIES
Regenerative Healing Factor (which in turn also grants him Contaminant Immunity, Fatigue Resistance, Decelerated Aging, and Telepathic Resistance), Superhuman Acute Senses, Superhuman Strength, Agility, Speed, and Endurance, and his signature six retractable claws that emerge between his knuckles, originally made of bone, but his entire skeleton was later infused with the indestructible metal Adamantium. Due to his healing abilities, he is functionally immortal. Notably, while his brain can completely regenerate, his memories do not always do so, leaving long gaps in his history. This flaw is not present in his surviving descendants/derivatives.
While the main factor of his mutation is his regenerative ability, the claws come from the other part of his mutation, which is an animalistic nature. Aside from the claws, this manifests in his super acute senses; he can act as a human lie detector, and can even hear noises from inside the human body when he concentrates. He could theoretically even work as a pregnancy test. His eyesight allows him to see clearly in the dark, and makes it easier for him to sneak up on people, he can even anticipate an incoming attack from a change in the air pressure alone. He has also displayed Animal Empathy, while he doesn't communicate in a complex, he can feel animals emotions, and easily befriends them. Like a disney princess, he and the animals understand each other. Most notably, however, the animalistic nature part of his mutation results in a berserker fury state, hence all that screaming when he fights.
RELATIONSHIPS
FAMILY
Grandpa Leopold, Papa Leopold, Mama Leopold
Bio Dad, bio half-bitch
The X-Men
Freya, Damian, Lara
FRIENDSHIPS
Willa Wilson
she proclaims to be his best friend, which he of course denies, but also goes along with her antics, so it's not untrue either.
ROMANCE
This man is such a slut. Throughout his long life, and even without accounting for that, he's been in numerous relationships with men and women. All bisexuals are not whores, but he sure is.
Tsukiko Muramasa
Wife, widowed
"Ryan Wilson"
Ex-boyfriend, doesn't like to bring it up, but "Ryan"'s wife, Willa Wilson, brings it up whenever she visits.
one of the Madelyne Falkner clones
ex-"girlfriend", didn't even know she was a clone, lol.
Leia Rao
Entertains her flirting, and obviously finds her pretty, that's just objective, but doesn't go further, the age thing wasn't really a problem before he became a dad, now it's a little weird. No longer entertains his partner's daddy kinks, like you can't call him what his kids do. He does get jealous though, he can usually hide it just fine, but it becomes very evident when she expresses interest in someone else.
HISTORY
TRIVIA
he is the only member of "The Captains" to not get an injection of a super-serum (although he was decades later subject to a different experiment)

@drawnecromancy Thanks for the added info!
(More rambling below)
I love Eleanor even more as a character after the explanation. Ngl, I'd have a reaction to her similar to Nathan's probably. I don't know what it says about me, but I really feel for her? Characters like that just radiate suffering and I want them to, you know, not be in the torment nexus. (Or rather, if they were people I wouldn't--when I step back and think of them as characters again I know it's Very Good for the Story and enjoy the experience usually.)
But it's also just that they're often so close to changing or realizing something important about themselves. It's like getting a rush from almost hitting the jackpot. Maybe next time they'll understand--I just have to stick it out for a little while longer. (The character will not understand or change, of course.)
The bit about the sword she made is so painful in the best way.
She really is amazing for being able to function as much as she does while hungover. I don't want to do anything more strenuous than make toast. If only I had a fraction of Eleanor's grit.
I can absolutely see why you love Nathan. He has all the talents of a Magnificent Bastard type villain, yet the nature of a Just Some Guy. Excellent combination 10/10.
Dealing with vampire puberty on top of regular puberty sounds like a nightmare. I'm just imagining the horrors of already being sweaty/awkward around someone you're attracted to or want to be friends with, then there's the added weirdness of wanting to drink their blood maybe? With the heightened senses making it all more acute. Eek.
No worries about not having a biology degree for story (or real life) matters. It always gets my imagination going to think about these things, which is itself the reward--I don't need everything explained to enjoy a world, just compelling. (There's always the danger of writing ourselves into a corner by setting a rule or detail in stone, then forgetting about it too.)
Zephyr is very much like Nathan in that he was born a vampire--"nightborn" is the term used in his world. Though his kind are stronger, faster, and immortal, they're vastly outnumbered by humans and dependant on human blood to live. So, nightborn integrated themselves into human societies, becoming an accepted (if still somewhat feared) part of them.
The goal of just about every nightborn bloodline is to consolidate power and security for the species as a whole. They intermarry and have children with human royals and nobility. They train to become court sorcerers, advisors, generals. Anything that gets the human culture they're part of to depend on them through the generations.
Then there's Zephyr's family. They looked at everyone else's efforts to become rich and powerful and were like, "Eh, we're going to become adventurers and inventors and scientists actually." The rest of nightborn society went, "...wut?" and has side eyed them ever since, even made them a punchline of sorts for being naïve idealists and lazy ne'er-do-wells.
Then there's Zephyr. He just thinks humans are neat. At his coming of age ceremony, where young nightborn declare their ambitions for their future, he vowed to never take a human life via feeding--a decision that was shocking even to his liberal family. He took it upon himself to study human cultures and languages, becoming great at gaining trust and renown as a mediator/diplomat in his country (even if humans think he's a little nuts too). So much so that he was offered A Very Important Post and now has a say in Big Official Decisions, much to the further shock of kind.
His greatest hit to date is getting married to the princess of the country next door, who have been waging a holy war against nightborn since forever. The story behind that involves stuff like Zephyr sneaking behind enemy lines to chat with the princess in person, almost letting her chop his head off, the sun god's temple staging a coup that murders her parents, and her basically staging a bloody comeback that involves conquering her own country. With Zephyr's loving support, of course.
Basically, he keeps winning just by being a soft-spoken weirdo who's good at understanding people.
Since you've been posting such cool art of them, I thought I'd do the Revealing OC asks for Eleanor and Nathaniel!
For Eleanor:
6. Who will they take advice from, no matter what it is? Who won’t they take advice from, no matter what it is?
15. What would they consider a waste of time– other than school or work?
For Nathan/iel:
13. Name one thing their parents taught them.
3. Ask them to describe their love interest. (Or someone he's close to, if romance isn't his thing.)
--@ceph-the-ghost-writer
Ooohh thank you ! This is very kind especially considering most of their art is getting a bit old, haha :3
Questions from this ask game !
I will be placing this all before Eleanor's (first) death, so they're both about 50 and shit's super fucked. :]
Eleanor
6. Who will they take advice from, no matter what it is ? Who won't they take advice from, no matter what it is ?
She doesn't really take advice from anyone. Honestly it would be easier to advise a donkey than her, so I guess the answer to the first question is "no one because she'll tell you she can handle it, fuck off".
The second question though ? Nathan. Definitely Nathan. And yet he keeps trying.
15. What would they consider a waste of time- other than school or work ?
Socializing but that's mostly because she's bad at it and has a horrible time talking to anyone ever lol
She's 50-something, has never developed a social skill of any kind that isn't yell at people until they leave you alone, and parties are her worst nightmare. Although at least there's usually alcohol at parties.
Nathan
13. Name one thing their parents taught them.
That he could live his life how he wants and he didn't have to become a warrior at all if he didn't want to. Yes, yes, he's super good at fighting and magic and everyone encourages him to become some kind of legend - and hit parents sat with him when he cried about other people's expectations and gently told him that he didn't have to. No one would force him. He was going to grow up and he could just choose to do something else.
In less poetic stuff they also taught him how to behave as a vampire because vampire puberty is fucking weird. You're exactly like a human until you hit puberty and then you start biting people what the fuck
(I guess that's two things, lol)
3. Ask them to describe their love interest.
At ~53 : "Oh, you know. The shouty general who hates me. Not sure why I keep trying to speak to her at this point."
10 to 20 years earlier : "... I've missed her. A lot. I know things are very different nowadays, and I don't quite think she considers me a friend anymore, but just being around her is nice. I'd say she's gotten grumpier but I think I'm just not used to her being grouchy all the time anymore... Oh you want to know what she looks like ? Haha, I've already said too much."
Back when they were teenagers : "She intimidates me because she's better than me at almost everything, but she's also so cool, you know ? Have you seen her disarm Torick the other day ? It took her less than a second, he had no idea what the fuck happened ! She's so cool. It's incredibly scary to spar with her it's almost like she's actually trying to kill me."
#he also has an evil big sister#but we don't have to get into her#suffice to say this one family really broke the mold

i have like. personal headcanons for the rough ages of the characters in hollow knight/dreamless. and it is getting very apparent to me how big the dissonance between ghost’s actual age is and how old they appear to be based on looks alone is
#this isnt really spoilers but also it kind of is so ill put these in the tags#but assuming ghost is like 80 ish but acts like. a teen. kinda#myla is like. 20?#cloth is in her mid 30s. cornifer and iselda are in their 40s#tiso's like 28#lemm is like. 50? 60 maybe?#like somehow they're simultaneously older and younger than all of these characters at once#it is the Weirdest thing#quirrel's like fuckin. i dont even know. pushing 100#nah. older. closer to 120#i dont even know how old monomon is. or lurien#or the moths. too old to conceptualize#lurien's Old because of his expertise in soul magic casting#monomon's a follower of the radiance so she has functional immortality#idk how old herrah is but shes probably in the equivalent of her 50s#i mean monomon is still the oldest of the dreamers by far but like. holy god ages in this fic are so weird#hollow knight#dreamless au#i suppose thats what you get when you have magic?? but sheesh#it must be fucking weird being 80 in a 5 year old's body

okay this has been on my mind all day and i need to get it out before i wind down for the night but i really like playing with the idea of the countries' immortality and what the actual mechanics of it are and how it might affect them. the system closest to canon and that i see a lot of people adopting/basing their interpretation on is one where they start out as children for a couple centuries and then age very slowly until they are somewhere nebulously between their late teens and thirties in the modern day, depending on the character, but i've always found it kind of hard to get my head around that form of immortality myself. i think it's because it implies there's some kind of predestined, written-in-the-stars 'death' date for the country a character represents that they're gradually aging towards, giving the impression of an unusually long mortality even though they are functionally immortal, and i just feel like there's too much unpredictability in how the course of a country's existence could play out for that to make much sense? the flip side is of course that you embrace the weirdness and the confusing parts of the slow aging and lean into the characters being a bit uncanny/distinctly not-quite-human, but i've admittedly yet to think that through very far.
the way i think about immortality when i'm playing with headcanons or planning fics is that all of the characters were born and started out as regular mortal humans, and aged at the same rate as ordinary people - up until a certain point. maybe they happened to get caught up in an important historical event, or they die and come back to life not quite right, but i've always erred away from canon and thought of immortality and being the embodiment of a country as something that happens to them rather than something they are born with. mainly because it opens up a lot of opportunities to explore what it actually means to embody/personify a country, since rather than being born knowing their special and different, that immortality and responsibility becomes something that the characters have to confront themselves and deal with in complicated ways throughout their very long and strenuous lifetimes.
i think this is a much more productive train of thought for headcanons and fic-writing than, say, making fanart. but i do have a couple norway-centric fics in the works (one being drafted, another still in the planning stage) set in the 11th century as he deals with the very bloody business of late viking age dynastic politics and has something of a personal crisis, and exploring how that sense of self affects his relationships with characters like iceland and denmark in their early days, and it's been really fun incorporating an awareness of becoming a country into the character studies. i'll probably link them on here when i start posting them to ao3 but for now i just wanted to get some of my immortality opinions TM written out. and i would love to hear other people's thoughts if this is something that anyone else has ideas about! i know for some people part of the appeal of hetalia is that it takes what could be a very serious and angsty subject and manages to make it Not That, but i love immortal characters and i feel like there's a lot of room to do fun things with the immortality/country mechanics here lol

I just realized why I hate Dragon Age elves not wearing shoes
it’s because that’s not right for the kind of elves that they are!
like, some settings, they have elves that are, to steal Sera’s term, really elfy. they’re true immortals, their souls and human souls may be made of different stuff, they don’t cast spells so much as magic happens around them
and those elves can be barefoot, because if they’re barefoot it’s clear to us that they will never step on something sharp, or filthy, or itchy, because the rules of reality don’t quite apply to them. if Legolas is walking on top of a snowdrift, there’s no reason he can’t be barefoot while he does it. Galadriel can be barefoot because the nettles know their place. (in LotR, as well, the characters only ever meet her in her own house, which she is magically maintaining. there may be grass underfoot, but this is functionally her living room.)
but Dragon Age elves are not like those elves. sure, there’s talk, and lore, from the first game on, about them having Once In The Before Times been that kind of elf, but they aren’t like that now. in Origins, the elf we meet who’s seemed to have recaptured a touch of ancient elvhen immortality is in fact a different, worse thing. there is not, now, any practical difference between elf and human in terms of life expectancy (adjusted for socioeconomic status) or, mostly, of magic. hard to get numbers on how many elvhen vs human kids manifest magic, but there doesn’t seem to be any magic that absolutely only elves can do.
they are also not like high-elf elves in that they are an oppressed underclass. they live in city ghettos and in caravans constantly on the move and are constantly at huge risk of being assaulted and murdered with their human murderers facing no legal consequence. the tabris origin is about being hate crimed. in dragon age 2 the clan staying on sundermount for less than a decade is unusual and risky. there are no great elvhen kingdoms, and no one alive remembers anyone being alive who remembers when there were (except certain Weird Fuckers).
if Dragon Age elves step in a mud puddle, they get muddy feet. if they walk through the forest, they have to keep eyes out for sharp rocks. so they should put on some fucking shoes, because Merrill is going to get super ultra mega tetanus after we go through the literal sewers of a large medieval city. shoes she should already have been wearing, because I have spent a lot of time in the woods and trust me, in the woods we wear shoes.
#it's a trope being used without actually considering whether or not it's appropriate#elves are barefoot because they Love Nature#yeah well nobody loves stepping in a pile of halla droppings#and nobody ever did#cygna age

You've tagged so many cool posts with Odessa that I'm officially intrigued, I would love to hear about her!
I hope you're okay that I posted this publicly because you're the first person to ask about OC lore in quite some time, and I am ECSTATIC!
I will put a "read more", however, as I tend to ramble, and will mostly assume anyone reading this knows something about Doctor Who.
so a brief tldr; primer is that about a decade or so ago, my now-husband and I were intensely into Doctor Who and did a very cheesy, self-indulgent (pretty poorly-written but fun) RP here on tumblr with a companion character I'd created traveling with the Tenth Doctor. cut to now in 2023, and he's fully back into DW (classic and new), and dragged me along with him. I'd been reworking this character I'd created off-and-on for years (changing her name, her faceclaim, backstory, everything; I just felt like she deserved an update as my writing developed and improved!), and now that the hyperfixation is back in full swing, so is she.
pinterest board for vibe check // story pinterest board with working title for extra vibe check // said posts I've tagged with her name
basically, Odessa is a young woman living in an isolated cottage in the countryside following personal turmoil (including the mysterious and untimely death of her parents and possibly leaving a man at the altar, her neighbors are unsure about that last part; she's a little bit of a "champagne problems" gal), and barely has any contact with anyone. she's just chosen to shut herself up for whatever time she has left on Earth, and tend to her garden and books and be alone until she dies.
but, on her way home from a trip to town one day, her bike runs into a big blue police box that definitely hadn't been on this rural dirt before, and there's man nearby who says he's investigating some strange, not-of-Earth communication signals in the area. I won't give all the details since we're intending to publish portions of this at some point (I hope!), but she decides to help The Doctor find the source of the signals and hopefully stop whatever's going on before it can hurt anyone. it turns out the mystery is linked to her and to the death of her parents, and shines a new light on the tragedy and on her decision to live an isolated, quiet life alone. so, when they've deal with the threat and The Doctor invites her to travel through time and space with him, she agrees. might've been a little bit of a "Getaway Car" situation in the beginning, but developed into something so, so much bigger.
we've been planning lots of original adventures with her, as well as some stuff that adds her into canon episodes, all going through the end of Ten's run, through Eleven's, and into Twelve's and beyond. and, yes, she does get to find romance because I am a romantic at heart, so how can I resist?
there's so much I love about her that I wish I could put into concrete words, but I recently realized that the arc I'd been writing for her was seeing her start as someone who decided to lock away her love because all she ever did was lose the things she loved; to grow into someone who forged this huge, time-and-space-spanning family that she could love unabashedly and wholeheartedly. sort of a coming-of-age out of linear time, and one that she never got to have because she just always felt stuck in the same place (derogatory). she gets the chance to fight to protect the things she cares about, and be openly who she is without fear of judgement or shame--and feel like she matters in her own life. (I do like to joke, though, that she locked away her love because, for her, all love does is end, but then she fell in love with someone who is functionally immortal, so did she really ever unpack that fear? it's sweet, though, I promise.)
it's been fun morphing her into a character that sometimes is just so unapologetically weird, too. I mean, to travel with a centuries-old alien through all of time and space, you have to be a little weird, but I feel like I just poured all my wonderful weird into her and let her run wild. (and this is the first post I tagged her in during this little revisiting, SO. this somewhat references a plot point that my husband doesn't even know about yet, but that will be deliciously angsty and link back to Odessa and The Doctor's very first meeting.) it's been really satisfying to rework a character I've had in my back pocket for a decade and feel like she's more fully-realized, even if just in my own head. less of an avatar, and more of an actual character with needs and an arc. (an actual character who has a proclivity for going after Daleks with a baseball bat and relates a little too hard to the bridge of "Mastermind", but I digress.)
it's also been so gratifying revisiting a story that my now-husband and I were working on in the very beginnings of our friendship, and develop the romance plot from just romance to eventually a marriage between two characters we both really love. hell, we've already formed a spin-off AU, and one-off adventures with different incarnations of The Doctor outside of their shared linear timeline. (one of my husband's creations is a story where she's put on trial for perceived "crimes" against the known universe, and for being accessory to "crimes" committed by The Doctor. we love a chaotic woman wanted for multiple violations against the space-time continuum. ✨)
as I'm re-reading this, it feels kind of vague for how much lore I have in my brain, but honestly sometimes it's like when someone asks what your favorite movie is, and you suddenly forget every movie you've ever seen. 😅 I'm always so, so happy to talk about my characters (and their pinterest boards and playlists and such), please feel free to ask me to elaborate on anything if you're still curious!!! 💕 Odessa is a constantly-shifting, ever-developing, total-failed-misanthrope-beause-her-heart-is-just-too-big, time-traveling madwoman in my mind, and I love her so, so much and love that you reached out to ask about her!!!

#ask#kaijueiga#oc talk#odessa#text#anyone is always welcome to ask about my OCs oh my god I could make powerpoint presentations on all of them#like I am geeking right now this ask has made my whole day!!!!

The worst thing of the originals and the vampire diaries will always be that it had so so much potential and so many amazing actors, but Julie Plec fucked it up.
Hi anon,
Listen, I have no interest in speculating who is to blame for TO ending the way it did. Idk. Maybe it was Julie Plec, maybe it was someone higher on the production ladder. Somebody behind the scenes wanted a new spinoff, and somebody had the idea of a supernatural high school drama. But, but…which characters are even in high school? The tvd characters all graduated ages ago, and the Mikaelsons are immortal. *gasp* I know! Let’s do a “next gen” thing, and age up the babies that were born during the first two shows!
Not a bad idea—until you take into account that the parents of said kids are played by older, more respected actors who really don’t want to play second fiddle on a teen drama. So when they say no to appearing in yet another show…what is there to do except kill them off? It’s antithetical to the characters that they wouldn’t be involved when their kids are in danger, so…they all the get the ax.
Except it doesn’t make sense, because the creators didn’t kill everyone. Caroline, the mother of the Saltzman twins, is alive—but offscreen, because Reasons. Hope’s aunts, uncle, and adoptive brother are still kicking, but they never visit unless it’s time for a Very Special Guest Star on Legacies. (And then it’s weird, because these supposedly immortal characters have visibly aged, and…well, I suppose it can’t be helped. It’s still weird, though.)
So, all this to say…I really wish Legacies hadn’t happened. Maybe season 5 of TO wouldn’t have been so terrible if the writers weren’t setting up another show. Maybe they would’ve left off at season 4, which…I wouldn’t have liked much more, but there’s potential for a fix-it—especially where Hayley’s concerned. I wouldn’t have gotten my otp suicide pact ending, but. I could’ve gotten it a different way. It’s not like I haven’t fixed canon before in my head.
I haven’t watched Legacies—moots who have, tell me if the show could have functionally existed without Hope as the main character. Could it have been mostly the same show without Klaus’s daughter leading the cast?
#asks#anon#the originals#tvd#as for tvd…honestly i think they should’ve just ended at s6 when nina left#get her back with stefan and put damon with bonnie#then they all reunite in heaven…somehow#boom i fixed tvd#also alaric and matt wouldn’t have become insufferable#so tvd was just a matter of them being too greedy
