SUNGHO: THE PERSONAL GUARD

sungho was always a clever man, one who thought through things carefully and rarely acted on impulse

his nature made him an excellent guard, but often a lacking lover

his devotion to you was never in question, but his propensity to err on the safe side clashed with both of your longing hearts

there was nothing easy about maintaining a secret relationship with your personal guard, but the hardships you went through always proved to be worth it in the end

sungho couldn't risk showing you affection while in public at all, and while you could get away with a little more than he could without being questioned, you followed suit with his caution to avoid any unwanted consequences

it wasn't for lacking of wanting that sungho refrained from any hint of affection for you in the presence of others

it killed him inside every time he had to act as if he didn't know you better than anyone else in the room

he didn't even dare to try to hold your hand behind your back or place his hand on your shoulder

no matter how much he longed to feel your skin under his, even the slightest physical touch would get caught by the other guards in an instant

they were always on alert for intruders, and that included the palace staff

in order to keep his crucial position of protecting the princess, sungho was forced to act as professional as possible

but there was still one way that he could convey how he felt without getting caught by anyone

and that was in his eyes

only you could catch how his cold gaze softened whenever he looked at you, his dark eyes sparkling with love and adoration

his longing for you was evident in his eyes, and even just a glimpse at his gleaming eyes filled your entire heart

his reputation was at stake as much as yours, and you were both heavily aware of that

if the news that one of the most trusted and skilled guards of the palace was caught in an illicit love story with the princess, he was sure to be banished or even executed for it

so sungho took no risks and did his best to ignore his heart's longing

if only things were different, he would be able to hold you and profess his love for you for as many hours of the day as he could

but as things were now, he had to be content with fleeting glances and precious moments shared together in the privacy of the gardens or your bed chamber

those were the only areas of the palace far away from the preening eyes of the maids or sentries

sanghyeok's respected position within society allowed him to visit you freely

while you loved hearing his compliments and seeing his cheeks dusting a soft pink just from your mere presence, your favourite moments with sanghyeok would always be when you were dancing with him

you had been courting him for months now, but dancing with him still felt as thrilling as it always had

how gently he held you, swaying and twirling to the elegant waltzes and minuets the royal symphony played for the public's enjoyment

‘hey y/n, i can’t get you out of my head.’ brendan typed. “no.” brendan mumbled, back spacing and deleting the ten words he had just typed out. ‘i miss u, a lot.’ he typed. he groans before deleting that as well. ‘please come back to me. i’m miserable without u and i regret everything. i love u.’ brendan typed. he stared at his screen, hesitant to hit the send button before ultimately turning his phone off and tossing it on his desk. “i really messed this one up.” brendan said, sitting with his arms crossed and staring out the window.

brendan has been tossing and turning all night. he looked over at his clock. ‘2:34’ it read in bold red letter. brendan can’t sleep. and the reason? the reason is you. brendan closes his eyes, deciding not to hold off his intrusive thoughts and memories of the two of you.

“brendan slow down! when i said i wanna go on a drive, didnt mean i wanted to get a ticket for speeding” you say, feeling the california summer wind blow through your hair as you throw your head back in laughter, looking over at brendan as he’s looking over at you with adoration in his eyes.

“hey y/n..” brendan said, taking his right hand off the steering wheel and extending out so you can hold his. “hey briss.” you smile back. “i love you, pretty girl.” brendan says, as his thumb runs over the back of your hand. “i love you too, bren bren.” you laugh at the silly nick name you had given him.

brendan opens his eyes, letting the tears run down his face, not caring about keeping up the tough guy act. he sniffles and wipes the tears off his face. brendan decided to get up and go over to his bathroom, turning on the sink and splashing himself in the face with some cold water. he puts his hands on the sides of the sink and looks at himself in the mirror. “face it brendan, you’re never getting her back.” brendan whispered to himself before going back to bed.

that morning

brendan made his way down stairs to make himself some cereal. “tough night?” owen asked from behind brendan as owen took a bite of his banana as brendan reached up in the cabinet for food. “why would you think that?” brendan asked, pouring cereal then milk into a bowl. “well one, i heard your sink running and like i dont know, two in the morning? and your eyes are puffy. have you been crying, bren bren?” owen asked jokingly, not thinking about the nickname he had heard y/n call brendan first. brendan’s expressions changed, “it’s really none of your business.” brendan said, grabbing his bowl and going over to the table. “brendan. stop. go text her. even if y’all don’t get back together maybe you can still be friends?” owen suggests, walking out of the room but not before adding, “also let me know when fun brendan is back. bad mood brendan is no fun.”

brendan finished his breakfast and went back into his room, having the day off. he picked up his phone and went to text you. brendan started moving his fingers across the screen, letter to letter.

‘hey. i know we didn’t end well but if you’d let me, i’d really like to take you out to lunch or dinner sometime this week, as friends or even less than that. i really just want to make things right. let me know when works best for you. thanks.’

and send. brendan turned off his phone. and now it was time to wait for your response.

you were walking to your dorm when you got the text. you had to do a double take. you immediately opened the text and started reading it. you decided to get back to your dorm before coming up with a response.

when you did get back you texted back, ‘hey brendan, thanks for reaching out, i’m free today. i’ll meet you at that pizza place the guys always go to at around 5. see you then brendan.’ you hit send.

at dinner

brendan got there before you did. he was a nervous wreck. he was rehearsing what he was going to say to you over, and over in his mind. he saw you walk in from his spot in the booth. it’s like time stopped. you were wearing just a simple t-shirt and leggings but brendan thought you were the best looking girl he has ever seen. brendan got up to greet you as you got closer. he pulled you in for a hug which you accepted but it was a friendly hug, not one of those hugs you two would give when you were dating.

you took a seat in the opposite side of the booth, ordering a drink. “how’ve you been?” you ask, picking up a menu, not making eye contact with him. “i’ve been way better,” brendan laughed, “how about you?” “i’ve been good, classes are stressful but nothing really new.” you say, still looking through the menu.

after all of the food had come, brendan and you could finally start getting into conversation without being interrupted by the waitress.

“i really just wanna start with saying i’m sorry. i’m a idiot, i am. you put in so much effort into our relationship and i barely put in any. i can’t get that night out of my head. it keeps replaying in my mind over and over. i took you for granted y/n. i wish i realized what i had when i had it, ya know?” brendan said, looking across the table at you.

“yeah i get that. i think that in your next relationship you should maybe just take a step back and realize what you have before its too late and she’s gone.” you said, making eye contact with brendan, while taking a sip out of your drink. it hurt the both of you talking about brendan with another girl even though the both of you knew it was definitely for the best.

“i also don’t want to leave us on a bad note. it’s march. the semester is almost over and i’ll probably be signing somewhere other then umich soon. so, i really would like it if we can maybe continue our relationship as friends.. i mean if thats okay with you.” brendan suggested nervously. “of course brendan. i’d really like that.”

you and brendan talked and sat in that little booth for a good two hours before getting the check and leaving. “bye brendan. thank you for this. i wish you the best in the future.” you said, hugging brendan as you two parted separate ways down the sidewalk. “oh and brendan?” you asked, turning around while brendan does the same, “i’m really proud of you.” you smile, before turning back around and continuing to walk down the sidewalk, leaving brendan there frozen in his tracks.

back at home..

“hey o, i heard you talking to briss this morning. is he alright?” nick asked, leaning over the counter. “yeah, ya know he was just having a night that just comes along with break ups,” owen fixed his hair, “it was..”

“Oppas! I have a problem!” Della exaggerated, throwing her hands up as she entered the kitchen where Heeseung and Sunghoon were.

“Why? What’s wrong?” Sunghoon asked while chewing his last bite of food.

“I wanna cuddle with the both of you, I’m in a Heehoon mood,” she pouted, wrapping her arms around Heeseung’s shoulders from behind. “Can I?”

She will never tell them but she just read a Heehoon x Della fanfic.

“Both of us?” Heeseung looked up at her. She replied with a small nod, still pouting. “Let’s go,” the two boys got up.

“Yay!” Della held Heeseung’s hand before making their way around the table to hold Sunghoon’s as well.

“What the-” Sunoo and Jungwon looked at them with confusion as they walked past. “Have fun?”

“Thank you!” The three entered her bedroom and closed the door behind them.

The two boys laid down on her bed. They stared at their girlfriend who was just sitting in between them, looking at them with an ‘adorable’ grin.

“What did you see?” Sunghoon asked with a lazy smile. Seeing Lala this giddy is probably a result of her fangirling.

“Something Park Sunghoon and Lee Heeseung,” she said sheepishly.

“Stop staring at us- come here,” Heeseung pulled her so she would lay down. He half-hovered on top of her and captured her lips.

Della sighed into the kiss, placing her hands on his shoulders and slowly running it down his chest. As they were really getting into it, she felt Sunghoon’s hand push her hair to the side.

She pulled away from Heeseung before turning her head to the other side and pulled Sunghoon’s face closer to connect their lips.

Right when tongue was about to get involved, she felt Heeseung’s lips on the side of her neck.
