SylusMc characters and relationship part 1 - MC and Lilith : the consequences of misogyny

Disclaimer : I like to ramble. So everything is purely a way to analyze and talk about SylusMc. I don't claim it to be true (its more like theories/rambles), nor do I claim that this is what the devs aimed for. I just like to make everything about SylusMc and relate everything beautiful and heartbreaking to them. I just love how beautifully written LADs is, and as a Sylus main, my rambling is mostly about him and MC.

I will write this in differents parts because it is quite long and I don't see myself writting a long post. I still trying to figure out the order but for now (from what I've gathered thus far) it's : MC/Lilith - Parallel between Lilith/MC & Lucifer/Sylus + love story - I might also talk about Caleb, and might dive into Lucifer/Lilith/Adam/Eve thing but I am not sure yet (i'm just stating some things in this part) - Other deities that relates to snakes/SylusMc - Snakes/Sylus's Myth (i vaguely talk about it in this part)

Subjects and maybe TW : blasphemy (ig ?), religious talk and comparison, misogyny, Sylus myth's spoiler (if you didn't read bc you wait for the rerun)

So a few day ago, I was reading Sylus Memory Card "Immobilized" again and I was kinda taken aback by the serpent alusion MC made.

First of all, bc I didn’t remember it, or at least I didn't notice or paid any attention to it. Secondly, because I didn’t make anything of it.

I tried to look at the kindled and also the main story where we see the linkage. It looked like this in Immobilized

Sylus's Main story : Breakthrough - Chap 12 : Resonance's Power

I know it was meant as a metaphor. But I can't keep but thinking why did the devs purposely made her say that ? Needless to say that this kinda highlights the main theme in Sylus’s dragon myth which is Sylus and MC primal and insatiable need to devour one another. MC even asks Sylus if he knew about it since the beginning which he laughs at. I won't talk much about it though, because the myth truly deserve a proper dive which I will do later on.

I only talked about snakes as Sylus, in my fallen angel theory and especially bc of the links between snakes/dragon. But I never thought to talk about it as MC.

And I guess I could end it here and say that it's because after Sylus died, MC became a dragon too. But tbh, this isn't the first thing that came to my mind.

I am a BIG BIG fallen angel Sylus lover. From my previous theories, I kinda made a parallel between Caleb and Sylus from this infold official commission :

I used the "theory" that MC’s character is influenced (at some extend) by the Lis she’s with. It's more like, the more the Lis and Mc spend time together, the more they align with one another. So Caleb’s MC could be considered as Eve and Sylus’s MC as Lilith. Lilith animal symbols are supposedly the cat, the owl and the serpent amongst other things. So I made some researches that I think could also be used as a beautiful metaphor for MC.

So Lilith was supposedly created before Eve (some people say she's Eve). Contrary to Eve, Lilith wasn’t created from Adam’s ribs but from dust and earth like him. She was supposed to be Adam’s wife but she didn't want to obey or submit to him. She wanted her independance (👀) and be treated equally but Adam wasn’t really happy about it (👀).

It kinda reminded me of the core difference between how Caleb interacts with MC and how Sylus does. Caleb wants to keep MC close and not let her go. He wants to be forever her protector. He feels the need to watch and protect her, even if it means doing things against her will, like locking her up. He is ready to built anything to keep her "safe" (more like trapped) and even proposes to make a "garden" for her inside a maze. This always reminded me about the garden of Eden, bc who thinks about making a garden for someone when they want to "hold" them against their will ? I will make a part where I will dive more into Adam/Eve/Lucifer/Lilith. I'm just leaving some crumbs for now that I will pick on later.

Sylus on the other hand, lets MC roam free and chose for herself. He knows she is strong and capable and able to make her own decisions. He WANTS her to make her own choices, even if it means he needs to step out. He lets her enough space to consider things and reflect on them, but will never hesistate to help her if needed. So this is with this in mind that I made my researches.

Lilith was what we could call (i guess ?) the first "feminist" women ever known. She was born "equally" to Adam and so wanted and demanded the same treatment as him. She stood up for herself and fought against the misogynistic "place" she was supposed to have alongside Adam; being his wife and answering accordingly to his needs. But Adam and G-d were not really happy about it and so upon not being heard, she went against them and defied what was expected of her.

Who is Lilith ?

After she fled/been chased from the Garden, people started to mischaracterize her and paint her as some sort of devil or a vampire, while to some she was a goddess. She was supposedly an evil being that only knew how to seduce, manipulate and terrorize. She was seen as the cause of new born’s death, a baby stealer, a seductress (she was often described as a succubi) who slept with men and was also was responsible for men's erotic dreams. She supposedly stole Adam's seed to made baby demons/nephilims and even drank baby's blood to rebel against Adam. She was also known to brink sickness, death and destruction.

Who is Lilith ?

As Lilith, we see MC time and time again defy what is expected of her as a woman. She was also part of many misogynistic rituals that plagued women for years (being used as sacrifice in GoT, being designated as a sorceress and put on death road in AS and thus meeting Sylus).

But this is not the only thing that I thought could go well with MC. And at some point I don’t think it was the writers intentions, MC is so real written as a real feminist character that tries to survive a society were she is not supposed to thrive that I can’t help myself and make those connections. And I love the devs for that bc it shows how well thought-out everything is and how much their pour their heart out into creating.

Lilith was so badly described and hated for being a woman, that MC suffering from the same treatment (in game and out game) doesn’t shock me but it does sadden me. And upon searching what Lilith is symbolized by, I stumbled upon this. Lilith was said and described as representing chaos, seduction and ungodliness. And OF COURSE I’m still finding a way to link this to MC.

Who was Lilith ? And Why Is Her Story So Important ?

At the end of Sylus’s myth, MC was judged for fifteen crimes but only three were thoroughly described. First crime could be link to Lilith’s ungodliness, second crime to seduction and the third crime to chaos.

Let me explain.

Ungodliness : Not accepting God or a particular religion doctrine, that goes against God and sins.

-> MC worships evil and desire : it is one of God's first command "Thou shalt have no other Gods before me" (Exodus 20:3)

-> Shows no repetance : repentance is showing regret about your sins and accepting to change which could lead you to being "saved". Instead of mending with the rules and called out upon owning a dragon lamp and not destroying it, instead of finding a way to repent for what she was wrongly judged for, MC decided to free the dragon and take revenge on everyone (as she should).

-> Corruption : "One whose heart is corrupt does not prosper" (Proverb 17:20)

Seduction : temptation, something that seduces, attracts or charms, in a sexual context it means to entice someone in sexual intercourse, Bible meaning is literally "to lead astray"

-> Consorting with a Fiend : by freeing Sylus, MC already associated with him and thoughout the myth we see MC slowly becoming his companion and his other half/soulmate to lately becoming "his kind"

-> Bearing its mark + tainting your very body with corruption : shows MC's acceptance of Sylus "influence", bounds him to him, being marked shows being "owned" by and it can implies that you had more than friendly connection with someone

Chaos : state of disorder and confusion with no order, also could mean chams/abyss

-> Plundering wealth and embracing insatiable greed : Sylus and MC went for raids and randering the Judicator's army to helpless soldiers

-> Action stepped in corruption : she does that out of revenge and desire (which kept being fed by Sylus indulging her) and she uses Sylus strength and power too

Who was Lilith ? And Why Is Her Story So Important ?

I don't think the dev took this from Lilith and I genuily don't think they went as far as I went. BUT to me, it's important to note how radicalized women are pointed out, mocked, judge and killed for just speaking out or wanting to be treated like humans too. And mind you, for both MC and Lilith, the one that were against them the most and whose voices were the loudest were men.

And to me, this adds more meaning when in Chaotic Velocity, Sylus describes MC as "chaotic, unique, and beautiful".

Instead of being a bringer of chaos or chaos personified, she is just part of it (and nowadays, being chaotic is kinda used as term of "endearment" or as being confusedly funny). Sylus embraces everything MC's has to offer. He loves her at her most unrestricted disordered, passionate, spontenuous, creative, unpredictable, wild state. Not once, bringing her down or looking down at her for it. Even if he is more methodical. Like for someone like Sylus who always plans things through and always makes sure to be steps ahead, MC can be quite a lot to deal with. But no, he lets ger roam free and embrace herself while he takes care of the rest.

Instead of being ungodly, she is unique bc she doesn’t fit into a case or let herself be shaped by others or rules. She stands firm on her belief and won't be easily swoop by people's influence or power, only if she deems it worthy or not dangerous to her and what she stands for. She follows rules while still maintining sort some of criticism towards it and won't hesitate to challenge and question things. And I also thing, he said that because he feels the need to remind her, that she is that special to him.

Instead of being a seductress or just an object of seduction (i guess was an other way for them to call her a whore) she is beautiful. Sylus never one reduced MC to a sexual object. She is an attractive women physically AND mentally wise and a capable women. He always emphasizes it and let MC knows that she means more to him than just her body.

And maybe devs didn’t thought this that far, but I will stretch this shit out to point out how much feminism and women empowerment IS a main SylusMc subject and pillar. NOT TO SAY THAT IT DOESN’T HAPPEN WITH THE OTHER GUYS. But Sylus has a special to my heart. Misogynistic and sickass ideas are not only just OOC when it comes to Sylus, but not even viable near that wonderful man.

Just wants to hang out with the cool tiefling kids

Very easily persuaded by Raphael. Wyll and Karlach are constantly trying to talk some sense into him.

Aylin is the coolest person he's ever met

Sobbing his way through the horrors of Faerûn—I can see him in a little crumple at Withers feet, blowing his nose on Withers' decaying robes as bone daddy breaks the fourth wall and stares into the camera miserably

Eventually hardens into a truly terrifying force to be reckoned with (Karlach is very proud)

Tommy has two hands, one for Scratch and one for the owlbear

Romancing non-Ascended Astarion and fucking Halsin occasionally, Lae'zel and Shadowheart are xyr besties (xe forces them to get along), Gale amuses the hell out of xem, Wyll and Dev are constantly trying to one up each other's stories

It's either Ethel or Volo, whoever xe comes across first, but that eye's out of xyr head comically fast

Just wants to talk shit with Withers all day, hates that he never has much to say to xem

Wants to kick the shit out of Rolan but keeps saving his life somehow

Always covered in blood. Like it doesn't make sense half the time. How did that much blood splatter on xem? Why is it still on xem?

Absolutely head over heels in love with Gale, friends with and trying to fix everyone, Astarion terrifies them but they won't give up on him, they know there's a good person hiding beneath that veneer

Tried a tadpole once, wasn't for them

Sleeps cuddling the owlbear and is always covered in feathers

Adam/Eve

In a relationship with Lae'zel, didn't get along at first but Laez grew to respect A/E and A/E was charmed by Lae'zel's... strengths. Shadowheart is their sister, hates it when the girls are fighting. Friends with Gale and Karlach. Doesn't trust Wyll fully. Never let Astarion join them. Immediately enamored with Halsin but Lae'zel is... stronger.

Normally out of spell slots cause they're terrified of long resting

Loves potions and alchemy, will stop every 30 meters to pick yet another sprig of balsam

Doesn't make deals with villainous beings. Doesn't trust any voices in their head. Doesn't respect any gods they come across.

Lucía

In a relationship with Karlach, best friends with her and Wyll, had a crush on Shadowheart before meeting Karlach, never liked/trusted Astarion and staked him the minute he tried to put his fangs on her throat, Jaheira is her idol, probably left Lae'zel to die (cause she didn't want to upset Shadowheart)

Speaks to every single animal, picks every single lock, looks in every single barrel, fails almost every charisma check

Scratch is always by her side

Will go to Hell for her besties 😉🥲

Ciel

Dating Shadowheart, really close with Astarion and Minthara... But, seriously, they have a big redemption arc. They grow and change alongside Shadowheart, both goth edgelords are completely changed by the end

Starts the game eating every tadpole (like the Guardian barely has to suggest the idea, it's already in their mouth) but goes one step too far and suddenly becomes terrified of what it means to be monstrous(/illithid)

Diplomacy? Ha. Sorry, that's not for them. They only like talking to animals and corpses.

Loves permanently seeing invisibility...

A loot goblin, their high strength score is great for fighting and jumping and shit, but mostly for the increased carrying capacity

I'm honestly not sure who they'd be in a relationship with, I think they'd be close with everyone but I don't think they'd be in a headspace for anything more than friendship over the course of the game, maybe after the fact they'd grow closer with Shadowheart but that would just be my headcanon, they wouldn't romance anyone (no matter how much Withers mocks them for it)

They are doing everything they think is right in the moment, though they'd regret rash actions later

They empathize greatly with the undead and hate people like Balthazar who twist them to their will

No one threatens a child in their presence. Well, no one who's still alive.

They cannot pretend to be under the Absolute's thumb, they are going in swinging every time, no chance for diplomacy or manipulation

They pick up a teddy bear early on and it never leaves their inventory

The Celestial

In a physical relationship with Halsin, slept with Astarion but now they're just very good friends, sees Karlach, Wyll, and Shadowheart as eir children, loves and is very intrigued by Lae'zel, doesn't like Gale at all (cannot and will not trust a wizard like him)

"iconic death scene" 😂. I'm a 2010's baby and since I'm from the future been seeing actually incredible death scenes from jojo bizzare , one piece, marley and me, heck the Adam sandler movie click 😂. Her death didn't flinch me despite not knowing what's up. A good death scene will still affect you even if you know what's up anyway. In short this is lame. If a character is only "revered" because of a gimmick and timing (back then this is like a big deal but nah, not anymore. Old fire emblem permanent deaths of characters affect me more tho haha) and not because of the character, then what are they really. And because she's so empty, her fans cope and call her all these good kind of things, like she's "independent", "mature", "kind", "selfless", etc. I'm sorry but no. They better stop coping then maybe she'll actually be written well. People complained about tifa, cloud and zack, even barret and yuffie, lool where they are.

I'm AC era so this bitch was long dead before I showed up and the 2s shot in AC did nothing to me. I didn't even know who she was in the film but she came off as Cloud's little sister, and Istg when I played og after, although only a bit cause the graphics are arse compared to new games, so I didn't play it properly until after Remake, I genuinely thought aerith was some 12 yr old girl in a big puffa coat. I guess I got it in my head she was a kid, and the voice in AC didn't really kill that assumption. Tbf she still sounds and acts like a kid in 7R so you never really get the sense she's an adult despite being told she's 22.

Her death in rebirth didn't get me at all. Ff16 got me so bad that I will never get over it. Type-0 I still hate for the ending. Ffx got me. Ff15 got me.

Rebirth didn't. And not because I can't stand aerith. I don't like Jessie either but her death got me the first time I saw it. That whole yoyo alive/dead thing 50 times and then the cringe entrance and rainbow sparkles and shit was just so off putting. It was blown up for drama and failed hard. There was no emotion in that. Cloud's reaction was weird. It was just handled badly.

Aerith shouldn't be called a heroine. She's got too many overblown negative traits that make people wanna punch her. The devs should've woken up to public sentiment before they started on this project.

Movies I Liked in 2024

Every year I reflect on the pop culture I enjoyed and put it in some sort of order.

2024 was an interesting movie year – due to the aftermath of the prior year’s actors and writers strikes, it featured a mix of finished films held over from 2023 and smaller independent features with shorter production timelines, meaning the release schedule was kind of all over the place. There wasn’t anything close to the cultural impact of “Barbenheimer” but there were a lot of good (and even great) films throughout the year. In fact, for the first time (I think?), I’m featuring a ranked “Top 15” rather than a “Top 10” and have a few more Honorable Mentions on top of that.

15. Rebel Ridge (Netflix)

A winning twist on the “one man versus the system” action subgenre, Rebel Ridge is maybe the most overtly entertaining message movie of the year. The film tackles racial profiling, police corruption and abuse of power with a commanding lead performance by Aaron Pierre and great supporting turns by Don Johnson and AnnaSofia Robb. It’s a shame its Netflix distribution means it didn’t get a proper theatrical release because this would be gangbusters on the big screen.

14. Monkey Man (Blu-ray, VOD, Prime Video)

I’m not the biggest fan of revenge and/or fighting films—nor do I have robust cultural knowledge of the Eastern mythology this story draws from—but the verve and visual flair of Dev Patel’s assured filmmaking debut kept me rapt through all of Monkey Man’s journey.

13. The Brutalist (Theatres)

I’m of two minds about Brady Corbet’s AMERICAN OPUS: on the one hand, it’s one of the least subtle films of the year and owes a lot to other epics from the likes of PT Anderson, Scorsese and Nolan (and that doesn’t even touch on the recently reported AI controversies which seem in opposition to the underlying message of the film); on the other, it’s undeniably compelling, visually striking and feels like the EVENT its 3-hour-and-35-minute running time (including 15-min Intermission) and VistaVision cinematography promise. Worth seeing; not in my Top 10.

12. Conclave (Blu-ray, VOD, Peacock)

The movie equivalent of a great airport novel (which is essentially what this is based on, though I haven’t personally read it yet), Conclave is a riveting drama of political intrigue set in the Vatican during the selection of a new Pope. The performances, direction and score all combine to elevate the material to its optimal heights.

11. A Real Pain (Blu-ray, VOD, Hulu)

The forced intimacy of travel, especially international travel, can strain any relationship, but it has an even greater opportunity to fray every last raw nerve when your companion is in many ways your polar opposite. Writer/Director/Star Jesse Eisenberg’s astutely observed portrait of two very different cousins retracing their family history in Poland is by turns wonderfully funny, full of life and incredibly stressful. While odd couple narratives are nothing new, Eisenberg and Kieren Culkin excel in their roles here, bringing humanity and empathy to both characters, who could each stand to benefit from the other’s influence.

10. Blitz (AppleTV+)

Steve McQueen’s World War II-set drama takes the form of an episodic adventure that follows a young mixed-race boy trying to return to his mother in London during the Blitz and her experiences there during said bombing raids. Centering its narrative around a child makes its immediacy feel remarkably visceral and its heightened/raw reality feel emotionally true. I’m very glad I made the decision to get out to see it on the big screen during its small theatrical run. One of the most moving films of the year.

9. A Different Man (VOD, Max)

So bitterly funny with so many layers, A Different Man is an acid satire of identity and self-loathing with pitch-perfect performances from Sebastian Stan and Adam Pearson. While The Substance appears to have stolen the spotlight for heightened allegories about appearance, this film worked far more consistently and effectively for me, walking a knife’s edge of tone that I ultimately found wholly satisfying.

8. Hit Man (Netflix)

Very loosely inspired by a true story, Richard Linklater’s Hit Man deconstructs the contract killer genre to hilarious effect while also telling an engaging – and rousing – love story built on the indelible charisma of leads Glen Powell and Adria Arjona. I’m not sure I’m fully on-board with the film’s conclusion but it at least has the capacity to spark discussion, showing it has more on its mind than most rom-com and/or crime thriller fare.

5. (tie) Jim Henson: Idea Man (Disney+), Eno (Special Theatrical Screenings, 24-hour livestream 1/24), Butterfly In The Sky (VOD, Netflix)

Three excellent and endlessly inspiring Documentaries about creativity and process tie for my next three spots.

Ron Howard crafts a beautiful tribute to a creative genius and true visionary in Jim Henson: Idea Man through a mix of new and archival interviews as well as a trove of behind-the-scenes footage. There are some moments of filmmaking novelty but for the most part, Howard lets the content speak for itself. I could watch a million more hours of this.

Speaking of watching a million hours of content, that theoretically could be possible with Eno, the biopic of musician/producer/artist Brian Eno from director Gary Huswit (Helvetica, Rams) in which a bespoke algorithm pulls from a database of hundreds of hours of video to generate a new version of the film for every screening. I saw two different editions in two different cities this year and the underlying structure is incredibly sound, allowing for the archival footage pulled by the program to interact with contemporary interviews in a way that the brain will find connections between even if somewhat unintentional. I was (and maybe still am) skeptical of the nature of this piece but have found it to be incredibly inspiring and very well curated.

Finally, Butterfly In The Sky tells the story of childhood public television staple Reading Rainbow (and by extension, that of host Lavar Burton) in a film that makes an excellent companion to 2021’s Street Gang: How We Got to Sesame Street. Hearing from the creators of the program is a window into altruistic passion for children and education, and it provides a beautiful testament to the important of public funding for the arts.

4. I Saw the TV Glow (Blu-ray, VOD, Max)

As a 90s kid whose adolescence was full of Goosebumps books and an obsession with the X-Files (plus Are You Afraid of the Dark? whenever we visited grandparents and had access to cable), I find the fluorescent-tinged VHS tape aesthetic of I Saw The TV Glow immaculate. With vibes upon vibes and a continuous succession of haunting and arresting images, the film puts a Millennial spin on Lynchian dream logic as it investigates nostalgia, memory, media consumption and identity/gender dysphoria. One of the most visually striking & captivating films of the year, with an unnervingly ambiguous ending that deserves all the style points.

3. Sing Sing (Theatres)

A testament to the humanizing power of the arts, Sing Sing ups the ante on standard “based on a true story” fare by starring many of the actual former inmates who went through the eponymous prison’s theatre program. Colman Domingo shines as the film’s beating heart and Clarence “Divine Eye” Maclin plays himself to transformative effect. In a country that seems to have ceded its judicial system to punitive rather than rehabilitative justice, this film offers proof that the latter is a far more effective and humane path.

2. Dune: Part Two (Blu-ray, VOD, Max, Netflix)

Truly epic in scale and scope, the continuation—and superior evolution—of Denis Villeneuve’s adaptation of the first Dune novel is a feast for the senses and Pure Cinema. That it manages to be accessible and relentlessly entertaining while still idiosyncratic and esoteric is something of a minor miracle (compare to the incredibly bureaucratic, dry and inert HBO prequel series Dune: Prophecy to see how easily it could have gone wrong). As a fantastically realized interrogation and deconstruction of the hero’s journey / “chosen one” narrative, the film reveals power and destructive violence as the death knells of idealism and honor.

1. Nickel Boys (Theatres)

A visionary work of literary adaptation, RaMell Ross’ Nickel Boys puts the audience inside Colson Whitehead’s incredible novel through a stunning filmmaking conceit. Malickian in its immersive Impressionism, the film combines deft use of first-person perspective (note the times the POV shifts “out of body”) with equally adroit use of metaphoric archival footage. It all adds up to a deeply moving exploration of the trauma caused by systemic exploitation & brutality and the search for ways to confront, survive and transcend it. Simply stellar filmmaking.

A Quiet Place: Day One (Blu-ray, VOD, Paramount+, Prime Video) – A surprisingly moving and, at times, even beautiful prequel that ends up being the best of its series

Civil War (Blu-ray, VOD, Max) – Alex Garland’s most accomplished directorial effort to date is a visceral and all-too-believable portrait of journalistic courage in a country that has abandoned its ideals

Challengers (Blu-ray, VOD, Prime Video) – Engaging and energetic as hell; even if you see the {ahem} climax coming a mile away, it’s still incredibly satisfying

Perfect Days (Blu-ray, VOD, hulu) – (2023 holdover) A lovely meditation on finding joy and wonder in the mundanity of life that proves director Wim Wenders is as vital now as he’s ever been

One Life (Blu-ray, VOD, Showtime) – (2023 holdover) A deeply felt portrait of the impact that can be made by even a small and committed few against forces of tyranny in the world

Ayrı ayrı bu kadar mükemmel iki oyuncunun birbirine bu kadar yakışmadığını ilk defa görüyorum. Aralarında kimya, biyoloji, fizik, itme, çekme hiçbir şey yoktu ya... Aceleyle karalanmış bir senaryoya başarılı oyuncuları yerleştirmişler. İlk yapacağım yorum budur. 12 bölümlük kısa bir dizi olduğu için konu çabuk toparlanır, hikaye uzamaz diye düşünmüştüm. Onun yerine sona doğru yeni düğümler atıp evirip çevirip, al bitti bu dediler. Lee Hye’ye ait webtoondan uyarlanan dizi çizime sadık kaldı mı yoksa kendisi mi bir son yazdı bilmiyorum.

Hikaye küçük bir kız olan Ban Ji-Eum ( Park So-Yi )’nin geçmiş hayatlarını hatırladığını anlatması ile başlıyor. Şuan ki 19. hayatında içinde bulunduğu aile fakirdir ve annesi evi terk etmiştir. Babası ve küçük kardeşi ile sefalet içinde yaşarken böyle olamayacağını fark edip evden kaçar. 17.hayatında bir erkek olarak yeğeni ile sirkte yaşarken hastalanıp ölmüştür. 19.hayatında o zamanki yeğenini bulur.

Kim Ae-Gyeong(Cha Chung-Hwa), kendi başına çok zorluklarla büyümüş kocaman kadın olmuştur. Küçük bir yahni dükkanı işletmektedir. Cha Chung-Hwa bence şahane bir oyuncu bu arada. Aynı zamanda da Shin Hye-Sun ile Mr. Queen dizisinde beraber oynamışlardı. Böyle geçmiş hayatlar üzerine bir dizi yapıp neden Mr. Queen’e bir gönderme yapılmadığına anlam veremedim. Önceki hayatımda kraliçeydim dese bile olurmuş. Çok tatlı bir dokunuş olurdu. Geçmiş hayatlar konusunu çok büyük harcadıklarını düşünüyorum. Uçsuz bucaksız bir fırsat varken ellerinde yalnızca bir konuk geldi; Chae Jong-Hyeop. Farklı isimlerinde kısacık da olsa görünmelerini bekledim.

Neyse kızımız geliyor yahniciye, ben senin amcanım diyor. Kadıncağız da hemen inanıyor, 10 yaşındaki kıza amca amca diyerek beraber yaşamaya başlıyorlar. Aradan yıllar geçiyor. Ban Ji-Eum burada yeni bir hayat kurduğundan beri 18.hayatında beraber yaşadığı küçük çocuğu arıyor. 18.hayatında daha çocuk yaştayken bir trafik kazasında ölmüş. Kaza sırasında Mun Seo-Ha(Jeong Hyun-Jun)’da onunla beraber olan aile dostlarının oğluymuş. Ufak bir çocuk olmasına rağmen bütün zamanlarını beraber geçiren bu çocukların özel bir bağı varmış. Ji-Eum da bu özel arkadaşını 19.yaşında arayıp bulmuş. Seo-Ha’nın babasının şirketinde parmakla gösterilen bir çalışan olmuş. Basamakları tek tek çıkarak ona ulaşmaya çalışıyormuş.

Ve geliyoruz günümüze Mun Seo-Ha büyüyor, oyuncusu Ahn Bo-Hyun’a dönüşüyor. Yaşadığı araba kazası nedeniyle bir kulağında duyma kaybı ve ilk aşkı/çocukluk arkadaşını kucağında kaybetmesinin travmalarını yaşıyor. Ölen annesine ait otelin işletmesini üstlenip, oteli eski görkemli günlerine döndürmeyi planlıyor. Ban Ji-Eum ise büyüyüp Shin Hye-Sun’a dönüşüyor. Karakterimiz işinden istifa ederek Mun Seo-Ha ‘nun oteline iş başvurusunda bulunuyor.

18.hayatındaki küçük kız kardeşi Yoon Cho-Won( küçük- Ki So-Yu, büyük Ha Yoon-Kyung) hep Seo-Ha’nın etrafında büyümüş. Peyzaj mimarı olan bu sevimli kızımız da Seo-Ha’nı sekreteri Ha Do-Yun(Ahn Dong-Goo) ile ilgileniyordu. Aslında bakarsanız bu çiftimiz çok daha uyumluydular. Uyumun yanı sıra çok daha da sevimliydiler. İkilinin aşkı, acısı, hissi izleyiciye çok daha fazla geçiyordu.

Daha önce dediğim gibi, oyuncular tek başlarına şahaneydiler. Shin Hye-Sun bir diziyi tek başına alıp götürebilecek potansiyele sahip dev kadro bir oyuncu. Ahn Bo-Hyun ise hem kötü adamı hem aksiyonu hem de aşık erkek rolünü hakkını vererek yaptığını kanıtladı. Itaewon Class, My Name, Yumi’s Cells gibi yapımlarla bu tezimi kanıtlayabilirim. Ayrıca ilk kötü adam olarak izledikten sonra bendeki imajını alaşağı ederek benim sapsabit fikrimi değiştirmeyi başaran çok nadir oyunculardan biridir. İşte tam burada kocaman bir ama! Ama işte olmamışlar beraber ya. İki dev oyuncunun birbirleri ile hiç mi kimyası uymaz arkadaş, uymamış işte.

Birazda senaryo hakkında konuşayım. Korelilerin çokça sevdiği bir konu olan reenkarnasyon mevzusu ana çıkış noktası. Hoş olmuş, güzel başlamış. Bütün hayatlarının her seferinde farklı bir suret farklı cinsiyet ile resmedilmesi de ayrıca güzel olmuş. Son 3 hayatının kısa sürmesi nedeni ile birden fazla hayatının iç içe geçmesini de çok güzel bağlamış birleştirmişler. Hikayeye verilen amaç yerine tam oturacakken, birden farklı bir boyut açmaları ise hiç diziye gitmemiş. Dizinin kaldıramayacağı bir karmaşa eklemişler. En başında bu insan neden sürekli geçmiş hayatlarını hatırlıyor diye sorgulamadan dizinin %80’ini izletip, sonra aslında her şey neden hatırladığına başlı diyemezsiniz. İzleyiciye ayıp olmuyor mu birazcık sizce de?

Çok gereksiz yükselip, verdiği açıklama ile tatmin etmeyen bir son yaşandı. Bana bir tık “Bulgasal” dizisini anımsattı. Keşke o dizideki gibi ilk bölümden bu lanetin sinyallerini verseydi. Kimin neden yaptığını söylemesine gerek yoktu, sadece böyle bir final yaşanacak mesajı bile yeterli olurdu. O yüzden hikayeyi çok zayıf buldum. Karakter gelişimi yok denebilecek kadar kötüydü. 18.hayatlarında birbirleri ile zaman geçiren iki çocuk… gerçekten çocuk. İzleyiciye, bir sonraki hayatlarında birbirlerini bulacakları kadar büyük bir bağ yansıtmıyorlar. Üstelik kız çocuktan büyük, ona ablalık yapıyor gibi bir hava hakim. Daha en başta çocukların arasında bir aşk var diye düşünüyorsunuz.

Bütün bu etkileşimi düşünerek izlediğinizde de, 1.bölümün sonunda ve fragmanda da gösterdiği o meşhur sahne geliyor karşınıza; iş görüşmesine gelmiş bir kadın, görüşme sonunda “beni işe almıyorsanız benimle çıkar mısınız” diye soruyor. Sen ne ara o kafaya geldin? Kardeşin gibi takıldığın çocuğa ölünce mi abayı yaktın. Hadi çocuğun kendinden büyük kıza açık olması normal. Her küçük erkek çocuğu zamanında bakıcısına, öğretmenine, komşunun büyük kızına vuruluştur. Onda da ��öyle bir saçmalık hakimdi; yakışıklı patronumuz kızımızı gördü ve hiç etkilenmedi. Çok uzun süre kızımız çocuğun etrafında saçmalıklar yaptı, sülük gibi yapıştı. Yırtık dondan çıkar gibi “hadi çıkalım”, “senden hoşlanıyorum”, “öbüşek mi” tadında dolaştı. Sonra, sizde artık izlerken tamam hadi aşık oldu kız o kadar sene peşinde koşunca diye ikna oluyorsunuz. Bu seferde diğer tarafın mantıksızlığı suratınıza çarpıyor. Arkadaşım sen karşındaki kişiden hiç birazcık dahi hoşlanmazken onun aslında hoşlandığın kişi olduğunu öğrenince aşkında ölme moduna nasıl bu kadar çabuk geçebildin. Düğmesi mi var bunun aç kapat, nedir yani?

Yok bak kalp çarpıntısı yaptı düşünürken bile. Sözün kısası, oyuncuların uyumu olmadığı gibi senaryoda oldukça tutarsızdı. Benim fikrim, şahane bir konuyu, şahane oyuncularla harcamışlar. OST’sini de inceledim. Müzik de yoktu diyebilirim. En azından diziyi izlerken dikkatinizi çeken bir müzik olmuyor. Yine de ayrıca dinlerken iki tane seçtim. Yani kütüphanemede bu oyuncuların bütün yapımları olsun derseniz izleyin atın. Derseniz o kadar boş vaktim yok, izlemeyin.

Jo Yuri – Down ( juicy Juicy )

It’s the first time I’ve seen two individually brilliant actors not match at all on screen. There was no chemistry, no physics, no pull, no push – nothing. It felt like a hastily scribbled script had simply placed talented actors into it. That’s my first and clearest impression. Since it’s a short 12-episode series, I thought the story would stay tight and wouldn't drag on. Instead, they kept throwing new twists toward the end, quickly tangled everything up, and then just wrapped it with "there, it’s over." The drama is adapted from a webtoon by Lee Hye, but I don't know if it stayed true to the original or if the ending was newly created.

The story begins with a little girl, Ban Ji-Eum (Park So-Yi), who remembers her past lives. In her current 19th life, she’s living in poverty, abandoned by her mother, and left with her father and little brother. Realizing she can't continue like this, she runs away from home. In her 17th life, she lived as a man with her nephew in a circus before dying of illness. In her 19th life, she sets out to find her former nephew.

Kim Ae-Gyeong (Cha Chung-Hwa), the former nephew, has grown into a strong woman running a small stew restaurant. Cha Chung-Hwa is an incredible actress by the way. She and Shin Hye-Sun had acted together in Mr. Queen. In a story centered around past lives, it felt like a missed opportunity not to include a playful Mr. Queen reference – even just a small line like "I used to be a queen in a past life" would’ve been a cute touch. Overall, the concept of past lives was heavily underused.

Ji-Eum shows up at the restaurant, claims to be her uncle, and somehow is immediately believed. They start living together. Over the years, Ban Ji-Eum builds a new life while secretly searching for a boy from her 18th life, with whom she had a special bond. This boy, Mun Seo-Ha (Jeong Hyun-Jun as a child), was the son of a family friend and spent a lot of time with Ji-Eum.

Fast forward to the present: Mun Seo-Ha grows up to become Ahn Bo-Hyun. He carries the trauma of the car accident that caused hearing loss in one ear and the death of his childhood friend (Ji-Eum). He is now running his late mother's hotel, trying to restore it to its former glory. Meanwhile, Ji-Eum (now played by Shin Hye-Sun) grows up and applies for a job at Seo-Ha’s hotel.

Yoon Cho-Won (played as a child by Ki So-Yu and as an adult by Ha Yoon-Kyung), Ji-Eum’s little sister from her 18th life, also grows up around Seo-Ha and secretly harbors feelings for Ha Do-Yun (Ahn Dong-Goo), Seo-Ha’s secretary. In fact, this secondary couple had much better chemistry and their emotional connection felt far more genuine.

As I said earlier, individually, the leads were excellent. Shin Hye-Sun is the type of actress who can carry an entire drama on her shoulders. Ahn Bo-Hyun has proven his versatility by excelling in villain roles (Itaewon Class), action (My Name), and romance (Yumi’s Cells). He’s one of the rare actors who managed to overturn my first negative impression. But here’s the giant "but" — these two together simply did not work. There was no chemistry whatsoever.

Now onto the script. Reincarnation is a much-loved theme in Korean dramas. The setup was promising: each life having a different face, a different gender, and connecting multiple lives beautifully. However, when they were just about to establish a cohesive purpose, they suddenly opened up a messy new layer that the story couldn't support. You can’t spend 80% of a drama without questioning why a character remembers past lives and then suddenly dump an explanation at the end. It feels disrespectful to the audience.

The ending was unnecessarily dramatic and unconvincing. It reminded me a bit of Bulgasal. If only they had given subtle hints from the start about the "curse" or reason behind the memories, it would have made more sense. The character development was also weak. The bond between the two children in the 18th life wasn’t portrayed strongly enough to justify them finding each other across lifetimes. It felt more like a sibling relationship than a destined romance.

Given this background, the infamous scene where Ji-Eum, after a job interview, suddenly says, "If you won’t hire me, will you date me?" made absolutely no sense. It was jarring. One minute she’s a clingy weirdo orbiting around him, and the next minute he’s madly in love — after initially showing zero interest. It all felt extremely forced and illogical.

In short, the actors individually were fantastic, but they had no chemistry, and the script was full of inconsistencies. They wasted a brilliant concept and two powerhouse actors. As for the OST, it was practically non-existent — nothing memorable at all, though I did manage to pick two songs for my playlist.

So, if you’re a completionist who wants all works of these actors in your collection, go ahead and watch it. Otherwise, if you value your time, you might want to skip it.

*Basketbol Gelişim Merkezi'nde saat 20:30'da başlayacak olan EuroBasket 2025 Elemeleri B Grubu üçüncü maçı. Şubat ayındaki virajda İtalya'ya kaybedip, İzlanda'yı yenmiştik. Bu kez Macaristan dönemeci var önümüzde. Önce evimizdeyiz. 12 Dev Adam yeni salonu Basketbol Gelişim Merkezi'nde de siftahını yapacak öte yandan. Başlangıcı güzel yapalım ve grupta da rahat bir konuma gelelim. Yürek dolusu başarı dileklerimizi sunuyoruz 12 Dev Adam'a.

*TRT Spor Yıldız'dan naklen yayınlanacak olan maç.

*İlk periyodun bitimiyle 27-20 üstünüz. Milliler kontrolü hemen sağladı ve ipleri eline aldı. Macaristan zaman zaman tek topa kadar yaklaşıyor ama geçit vermedik. Savunmada dikkat edersek biraz daha rahatlarız.

*İlk devrenin sonunda 43-37 Türkiye önde. Periyot özelinde yakın geçen bir oyun izledik. Macaristan denemeye devam ediyor. Yine 3 sayı kadar yaklaştıkları an vardı. Sonlara doğru ivmeyi bulduk yeniden ve çift hanelerin eşiğine geldik. Lakin yakın takipteler yine. O yüzden dikkat şart.

*Üçüncü çeyrek skorunu 62-49 yaptık. Nihayet aradığımız ivmeyi yakaladık ve çift hanelere tutunduk. Şimdi sonunu da benzer biçimde getirelim.

*92-66'lık galibiyete imza atan 12 Dev Adam 2. galibiyetini aldı. 30-17 gibi nefis bir son çeyrek geçirdik. Maçın başından beri bu rahatlığı aramıştık aslında. Şimdi deplasman randevusu var önümüzde ve orada da işi kesinleştirelim artık. Bugün için tebriklerimizi sunuyoruz tüm ekibe. Türkiye'de Şehmus Hazer 25, Cedi Osman 21 sayı kaydetti. Macaristan'da ise Zoltan Perl 16, György Goloman 11 sayı üretti.

Devlet şeker üretemez, çikolata üretmez, işine baksın diyen neoliberaller, devletin burjuvalara düşük faizli kredi vermesine ses çıkarmaz. Dikkat ettiyseniz ülkemizde kamu bankalarının özelleştirilmesi hiç gündeme gelmedi, çünkü kapitalizmin istediği ucuz ve pek çoğunun da geri dönmesiz kredileri, fakirlerin vergiler ile oluşan hazineden karşılanmalıdır.

Kapitalizm, serbest piyasa rejimi değildir. Büyük burjuvaların çıkarını koruma rejimidir. Adam Simth bile İskoçya gümrük bakanıyken, İngiltere’den gelen kumaşlara fahiş gümrük uygulamıştır. (1) Altmışlarda ortaya çıkan Neoliberalizmin sloganı, güçlü devlet ve serbest piyasa, lakabı da askeri keynesyenliktir. (2)

Rönesansı, reformu pas geçen, sömürgeciliğe katılmayan, sanayileşmemiş, sanayileşmiş gibi görünse de markalaşmamış ülkelerin, milli burjuva ve yerli dev şirketler yaratma hayali vardır. Bu ülkelere Osmanlı’da dahildi. Doğan Avcıoğlu, Türkiye’nin düzeni kitabının bir kısmını buna ayırmıştır. (3) Hatta padişah Abdülhamit, şehzadeliğinde ticaretle uğraşmış ve bizzat öz torununun anılarına göre padişahken bile borsa oyunları oynamıştır. İttihat ve Terakki ise bu yolda savaş zenginleri yaratmış, savaş sırasındaki vurgundan zengin olan ve Macar metreslerine binlik banknotlardan yatak hazırlayan bu zenginler, İttihatçıları da yüz üstü bırakmıştır.

Cumhuriyet döneminde de bu alışkanlık devam eder. Bu sefer balık kralı, kömür kralı gibi ticaret tekelleri oluşur. Bazı tüccarlar sermaye biriktirsin diye, belli iş kollarının onlara bırakılmasıdır bu teşvik. Yer yer müteahitlerin fazla kazanması sağlanarak da bu yapılmıştır. (Vehbi Koç, Hayat Hikayem adlı otobiyografisinde bunu ballandıra ballandıra anlatır.)

Bu teşviki kredi olarak verilmesi, daha önce bankalar aracılığıyla olurken, Devlet Planlama Teşkilatının kurulmasıyla beraber (İller Bankası ve diğer bir kaç kurumla beraber, Kalkınma Bakanlığı kurumuna devredilmiştir.), banka dışı yollardan, doğrudan kamu eliyle olmaya başladı. Emin Çölaşan, kitaplarında (Turgut Nereden Koşuyor, Önce İnsanım Sonra Gazeteci başta olmak üzere, bugünlerde yeni baskısı olmayan kitapları. Nadirkitap, Kitantik gibi sitelerde bulunabilir) yazdığına göre, Turgut Özal, Devlet Planlama Teşkilatını tamamen burjuvalara teşvik kredisi verme kurumuna dönüyor. (4)

Emin Çölaşan’ın, Turgut Özal ile bu günlerin gençlerinin deyimiyle toksik bir ilişki oldu, Özal ölene kadar. İkisinin tanışması, Çölaşan’ın üniversite yıllarına dayanır. Çölaşan ODTÜ’de okurken, Genelkurmay başkanlığında askerliğini yapan Turgut Özal’da matematik derslerine girmektedir. (Gene askerliğini yapan Süleyman Demirel ile sonradan hem fizik profesörü, hem de politikacı olacak Erdal İnönü’de üniversite de derslere girmektedir.) Özal, Çölaşan ve arkadaşlarını sınavda kopya çekerken yakalar ama ispatlayamaz. (Bunu, Çölaşan anlatmaktadır.) Bu ilk karşılaşmalarıdır. Daha sonra Çölaşan, Devlet Planlama Teşkilatında çalışırken, Özal, teşkilatın müsteşarı olarak amiri konumundadır. Özal, teşkilatı burjuvalar için ucuz kredi merkezine dönüştürür. Çölaşan’da memurluğu ile ele geçirdiği bilgilerle gazetecilik yapar. Sözde takma isim kullanır ama herkes bilir. Bazı yazılarını da açıkça yazar. Hatta Milliyet gazetesinin düzenlediği Ali Nail Karacan Yazı Yarışmasını iki kere üst üste kazanır. Özal’la sürtüşmesi sonucunda kurumdan kovulur ama babası olan, Meteoroloji Genel Müdürlüğünün ilk genel müdürü Ümran Çölaşan’ın çabaları ile kovulduğu kurumdan tavsiye mektubu alır. Sonra sırası ile Maliye bakanlığı, Ticaret Bakanlığı ve Petkim’de, hem memurluk, hem gazetecilik yapıp, kovulur. En sonunda 1977’de, otuz beş yaşında memuriyeti tamamen bırakıp, Milliyet gazetesinde gazeteciliğe başlar.

Biz teşvik konusuna geri dönelim. (Özal’ın Neolibralizm-Neoklasik okul peygamberliği ve Özal-Çölaşan toksik ilişkisi ayrı ayrı konular) Teşvikçilik, 12 Eylülden sonra hızla yaygınlaştı. Doksanların başında, özelikle Güney Doğu Anadolu’da komediye dönüştü. Ortalık sözde fabrikalardan geçilmez oldu. Birkaç kişiye maaş bile vermeyip, SSK (SSK, Bağ-Kur ve Emekli Sandığı henüz birleşip SSK olmamıştı) pirimini ödeyen sözde fabrikalardan alınan krediler, gene bankalardan faizle işletilerek, kazanca dönüştürüldü. Aydın Doğan ve Dinç Bilgin medyası, Tansu Çiller ve DYP’ye sırt çevirdiğinde, bu holdinglere aktarılan astronomik teşvikler ifşa edilmişti. (5)

Günümüzde ise teşvik sadece kredi olarak da verilmiyor. İşverenler, ÇEDES yada stajyerlik adı altında öğrencileri yok pahasına (bazen yemek bile vermeden) çalıştırdıkları yetmiyormuş gibi, (6) İŞKUR gibi kurumlar aracılığı ile çalıştırdıkları işçilerin sigortası devlete ödetmektedirler. Şirketler, kırk yıllık çalışanlarını bile, işe yeni başlayan kursiyer gibi göstermekte, işçiler her iş değiştirdiklerinde kursiyer olmaktadırlar.

Burada bir de değil ben gibi aslında öğretmen, amatör bir blog yazarının, en acar gazetecilerin bile bilmediği ne teşvikler var. Hatta bazıları kredi bile değil, hibe. Halka yıllarca kamu iktisadi kuruluşları zarar ediyor, hazine bu zararı ödememeli diyenler, daha fazlasını özel sektöre ödüyor.
