Does anyone know what happened with @2022grimoirechallenge? I haven't heard anything from that blog since May - and last I heard, their family had caught Covid but they were recovering.

A grimoire challenge is a year long series of prompts for information and topics to fill your grimoire/ book of shadows/ book of magic with. Everything from info on herbs, types of witchcraft, how magic works, deities, spells anything and everything.
I ran a couple a few years back @2019grimoirecchallenge
And
@2022grimoirechallenge
The latter didn’t get finished due to personal life things that have been resolved now. But I could definitely run another one if there’s enough support behind it
Should I run a Grimoire Challenge for 2024?

hi jasper, i hope this question isn't too annoying lol
so i seem to remember that you made a post (maybe an answer to an ask) detailing your personal journals/books for your wizardry, but i can't seem to find it. it was interesting to read, and i'm trying to compile my own magical notebooks and wanted some inspiration from the way others had made theirs.
did you make a post like that, or am i imagining it? lol. thanks in advance
I know I've done that. I know for a fact that that post exists. It's from April 18th of this year and is already outdated. So for you, anon, I'll talk about my currently in-progress magical grimoires and adjacent magical books.
Book Review Notes - a 3-subject college-ruled red spiral notebook. It's where I write the information down for my book reviews. I actually need to type up and post my review of Tarot By Numbers.
Challenge Book - a 3-subject college-ruled red spiral notebook from a different brand. This is where I do those 7/15/30/31 day challenges - usually all in the same day.
Book of Bullshit - a 1-subject college-ruled grey spiral notebook with a front pocket. This is my arcanabula, my orizon, this is where I write down frantic notes about spells or tarot spreads I'm developing, random notes of things I'm researching, and random thoughts that have no better place.
The Tome of Spells & Refinement - a 1-and-a-half-inch black o-ring binder where I keep the spells I have written (including ones that have never seen the light of Tumblr), my crystal grids, and information about my Magic The Gathering spells that I need to develop.
The White Binder - a 1-and-a-half-inch white d-ring binder. In here, I keep most of my miscellaneous information that I refer to a lot, including my MTG enchanting board, printouts of Dungeons and Dragons and The Elder Scrolls materials for me to review, and most of my non-pop culture magic information. My servitors and thoughtforms also have information in here.
The Epsilon Ledger - three faux-leather (aka plastic) notebooks from Walmart. These hold correspondences, information about necromancy and local magic, prayers and devotionals to deities...anything that's personal but not journal-esque. These are grimoires proper, only information, not musings or records of readings.
The Zeta Witchbook - a 1-subject college-ruled black notebook from the generic Target brand Up & Up. This was for the @2022grimoirechallenge before they fell off the face of the planet.
Enby Dragon - a cheap notebook from Amazon with a dragon in the nonbinary flag colors on the cover. This is where I keep my information on Flight Rising pop culture paganism involving the flights and the deities.
Volo's Journal - inspired by the D&D/MTG artifact of the same name, this is a fancy-looking grey sketchbook where I keep information on different types of non-physical entities and, well, animals alike. I use art cards from MTG for the visuals because my drawing abilities leave much to be desired.
Mixin' It Up - a 1-subject college-ruled purple notebook. Since I get some powders pre-mixed, I write down what they're made from and the mutually-shared correspondences between them.
This is to say nothing of the literal stack of empty notebooks that I am saving for future magical usage, nor of the notebooks that I used as grimoires and similar things earlier in my craft. I...may be mildly addicted to notebooks.
I hope this has given you a few ideas, anon!

Ranger Signs
From the Zeta Witchbook volume 1, my book for the @2022grimoirechallenge, on the subject of Ranger Signs for May Week One:
[under the part 2 entry]
The Ranger Signs are from the 2010 Nintendo DS game "Pokemon Ranger: Guardian Signs". They can be used to summon or invoke the power of specific Pokemon.
[under the part 3 entry]
The Ranger Signs (aka Involiths or Emblems) are drawn on the ground to summon previously captured Pokemon allies to help with specific challenges.
In magical practice, these could be used to channel/invoke a specific Pokemon to fulfill something.

2022 Grimoire Challenge Update - January
Just got done with the last week in January's @2022grimoirechallenge. It felt mostly like prep overall.
For week one, I designed and cast a spell - Leyline Invocation, based on the MtG card of the same name. I'll be posting that as a separate post later.
For week two, I sat down and organized how I would be doing the challenge, along with writing down what stuff in winter meant to me. I found out that there are no local witch groups or metaphysical/occult shops near me. I don't have the means to travel and join groups in the big cities, so overall this part of week two was useless to me. I also wrote down how to dress a candle and why, but that part was just kind of tacked on.
As for week three, I tried to figure out where I came from and where my practice comes from. I established that I wanted to get a deeper understanding of myself through this year using this challenge. I also established my work space (the microwave stand that serves as my side table) and my primary sources of information.
Finally, week 4 was about spiritual timing (which I don't use in my craft whatsoever) and necessary preparations done before magic. For me, that boils down to just gathering my tools. Sometimes I do cleansing things, but that's rare.
Overall, January felt like prep, and I didn't really feel the need or urge to change up how I do things. At least it inspired me to start digging into my Irish heritage!

Magical Herbs
Tumblr media
When writing in your BOS don't forget to add the magical properties of your personal garden. This is my work in progress page of my garden items. I used Scott Cunningham's Encyclopedia of Magical Herbs as a guide.

2022 Grimoire Challenge Update - December
Because the @2022grimoirechallenge blog has sent out a December post, I have started the Zeta Witchbook vol. 1!
I established my name, my identity, my location, and other information that I can reflect back on after the end of 2022. I established the primary subjects I want to learn more about in 2022: necromancy/death witchcraft, osteomancy, charm casing, elemental magic, and herbs/plants.
Hopefully I'll be able to keep up this year! May 2022 be as uneventful as possible for us all.

Attempting 2022 Projects
In the midst of offline work stuff, doing many tarot readings over at @jasper-tarot-reader, AND getting ready to do more work, I've finally sat down and named the book (or at least, the first one) that I'm going to use for the @2022grimoirechallenge.
The Zeta Witchbook vol. 1, subtitle 2022 Grimoire Challenge (to remind myself that I'm doing that), with the date of 1/1/2022 to an un-entered final date for this copy. It's got a black cover and is a college-ruled notebook (college-ruled is best to get more information on one page, which I appreciate more than writing tall on wide-ruled).
Volumes 2 through 5, if needed because of wordiness, are the same in every way except for the cover, the volume number, and the beginning date(s) and will be filled in as needed over the course of 2022. The different cover colors are (in order of how they'll be used) blue, green, yellow, and red.
ADDITIONALLY, I have also picked up the 2022 copy of Llewellyn's Witches' Datebook to follow for the year and review at the end AND a copy of the 2022 Farmer's Almanac (I almost put "Falmer's Almanac", oof).
AND I'm going to be trying to observe different holidays related to my craft next year, now that I've got dates, numbers, and ideas ready.
2022 is gonna be packed to hell and back with witch-related work for me, clearly.
That's not even going into what my November looks like right now with a NaNoWriMo project and my own personal grimoire challenge (where I try to write at least one entry into the Epsilon Ledger vol. 1, my beloved new grimoire that I picked up from Walmart). December, please be kind and restful for me.
