Our Story Masterlist Summary: YN and Harry welcome their baby girl into the world.

11th of April 2024

35 weeks and 5 days pregnant

The Tomlinson family had all travelled to Doncaster for a few days of celebrating YN turning thirty. 

“Your last couple of days of being twenty nine Kiddo!”. Louis gently ruffled YN’s hair as he walked by her in their grandparents kitchen. Both filling their plates with some more food from the buffet spread their Nan had made. 

“Don’t remind me!” YN groaned as she reached over and put some extra sandwiches on her plate. 

“Fookin’ ‘ell, is baby girl hungry tonight?”. Louis joked as he watched his sister continue to fill her plate that was already slightly full of food. 

YN laughed as she looked at her plate compared to Louis. “Your niece is a foodie, what can I say?”. She naturally ran her hand over her large bump. 

“Can I?” Louis gestured towards her tummy, his way of asking if he could touch. When YN nodded, Louis placed his hand over bump. “‘ello little one, are you gonna come and meet us soon?”. 

“You’re going to spoil her rotten aren’t you?”. YN couldn’t help but smile at the small interaction. She had witnessed her brother as a brother, dad and uncle already and she could tell how much love he already had for her little girl. 

“Uh obviously, I just hope she comes before tour starts again.”

12th of April 2024

35 weeks 6 days pregnant 

8:30am

YN suddenly woke from small niggles in her lower stomach, something she had been experiencing for a few weeks. She tried to ignore the dull ache and go back to sleep, but after tossing and turning, she gave in and got up. 

As she entered the kitchen she noticed her grandmother sitting at the table with a cup of tea in her hand. “Morning my love, you’re awake early!”. 

YN began to make herself a cup of tea, as she sat beside Jen. “Morning Nan, yeah braxton hicks again!”. 

“You’ve been having them a lot haven’t you darling?”. Jen had a concerned look on her face as she watched her eldest granddaughter stir her tea. 

YN only shrugged her shoulders. “Apparently it’s normal at this stage, I just didn’t realise how painful they could be”. 

11:00am

As the morning went on YN noticed how the niggles only continued and become a tad more painful. But not wanting to draw attention or to cause everyone to worry, especially Harry, she suggested her and Harry take Teddy for a walk.

They were walking through the quiet field, Teddy running just a bit in front of them, when YN stopped suddenly and held her tummy as a sharp pain caught her off guard.

“What’s wrong babe? Are you alright?” Harry immediately went into panic mode, worry evident all over his face. His hand protectively wrapped around her smaller frame. 

“Yeah, just cramp that’s all”. YN noticed Harry’s worried look, his eyebrows in a tight frown and tried her best to hide how much pain she was really in. “I’m fine, it’s braxton hicks again.”. 

Although Harry wasn’t fully convinced, they continued their walk before heading back to the house. 

2:00pm 

Within a few hours, the pain had gotten worse with YN baring her weight on anyone or anything to try and ease the pain. It was when YN cried out in pain, as she grabbed onto Louis’ hand, that Harry decided to take matters into his own hands. 

“I’m phoning the hospital, this can’t just be braxton hicks!” Harry announced as he began to dial the number on his phone. 

“Harry’s right Tiny, you’re in far too much pain for this not to be real labour”. Louis agreed with Harry, taking note at how much his sister was squeezing his hand. 

After phoning the hospital and explaining everything to the midwife, Harry was told that it sounded like YN was in early labour and they needed to monitor and time how quick she was having contractions. 

At this news Daisy, Phoebe and the other men decided to take Lucky and Olive to Phoebe and Jack’s house to give YN some space before she had to go to hospital. 

“Ahhhh!” YN cried out in pain as she held onto Harry for support. “This hurts so fookin’ much!”.

Harry rubbed circles on YN’s back, trying to comfort her as much as he could. “I know baby…but you’re doing so well.”.

“You’re doing so well YN��. Lottie praised her sister from where she sat next to Louis. “All the pain is worth it in the end, trust me”.

“Lottie’s right Tiny…just think you’ll be holding your baby sooner than you thought”. Louis gave Harry a small smile, knowing how special that moment will be for them both. 

5:30pm

With her contractions lasting around a minute and only being five minutes apart, YN found herself in the hospital with gas and air being her new best friend. 

YN was lying down on the bed, the gas and air attachment in her mouth as she breathed through another contraction. Harry sat on one side of the bed telling her how proud of her he was and saying how it wouldn’t be long until their little one would be here. 

“Harry…baby…I can’t do this!”. YN’s head hit the white plump pillow behind her, as the contraction ended. “I’m so tired already.”.

“You can do it and you are doing it”. Harry brushed some of her away from her face. “You’re making me so proud!”. 

“YN, you’re doing amazing and just remember nothing worth having is easy”. Lottie encouraged her sister, having been through labour and birth herself, she what to say. 

“Listen to your birthing partners YN, you’re doing amazing”. The midwife smiled proudly at how supportive and calm they both were. “How about trying to the birthing pool?”. 

Harry helped YN into the pool and instantly YN’s once tense body was now relaxed. In between contractions she began to make jokes about how she’s glad she had shaved her legs before that day. 

When the next contraction hit, Harry was quick to kneel down beside the pool and hold onto YN’s hand as she took in the gas and air to numb the pain. “That’s it, keep breathing through the pain, you’re doing so well love”. 

8:00pm

“So how did you two meet?”. The midwife began to make conversation with the couple as another contraction ended.

YN was back sitting on the bed, the attachment still in her hand whilst her other one held Harry’s. “He was my brother’s best friend”.

“Oh how interesting!” The midwife leaned forward in her chair, eager to hear more. “How did that go? You know breaking the news to him?”.

“Not well but he came around pretty quickly”. Harry explained as YN worked her way through another sharp pain. 

“I wouldn’t have listened even if he didn’t come around”. YN allowed the gas and air to do a little bit of talking. “Couldn’t resist the charm”. 

Before anyone could respond, a gush of water surrounded YN and turned the blue sheet below a darker shade. “And that’s your water breaking!” The midwife announced before she helps YN to clean herself up. 

11:45pm

The contractions were coming thick and fast, YN was attached to the gas and air more than ever and Harry tried to hide how hard she was squeezing his hand. 

“YN I’m going to exam you, is that alright darling?”. The midwife stood at the bottom on the bed, gloves covering her fingers ready for the examination. With YN’s permission, the midwife began to see how far YN was dilated. “Oh darling, I can feel baby’s head, do you feel like you-“.

Before the midwife finished; YN let out a small groan as she bore down and began to push. Harry was overwhelmed with joy, excitement but also nervousness that any minute now their whole world was about to change. 

“Keep listening to your body YN, you’re doing amazing my darling” the midwife encouraged as she continued to watch the baby’s head begin to crown. 

“Aww I can see her head!”. Lottie’s excited voice could be heard as she took in every moment of watching her niece being born. 

YN took a rest in between contractions before she needed to push again. “I love you  “. Harry placed a peck to YN’s forehead. 

“I love you too!”.

After several more pushes, Harry and Lottie were in awe as the tiny little baby appeared and was placed on YN’s bear chest. The tears streamed down YN and Harry’s cheeks. 

“Hello baby girl!”. YN held her daughter tight, and kissed her head gently. Despite all the pain YN was still in, a large smile covered her face as she looked down at the small version of herself and Harry.

“Baby girl born one minute past midnight on the thirteen of April, weighting six pound exactly”. The midwife announced to the three of them. 

Harry smiled down at his wife and newborn daughter. “Happy birthday baby!”. It was in that moment that YN had realised that their little girl was born on her thirtieth birthday.

13th of April 2024

6 hours old

“Thank you.” Harry spoke into the quiet and calm room as he held their newborn in his bare arms. “You’re a real life superwoman for doing all that and bringing our girl into the world!”.

“I’d do it a thousand times again because she was totally worth it”. YN watched as Harry’s hand held onto the tiny newborn fingers. “I couldn’t have done it without you or Lotts though.”.

“She’s your double”. Harry smiled as he observed the little’s one features, all resembling her mother’s. “She looks like your Mum too!”. He gave YN a sad smile. 

YN didn’t want to get too emotional at the thought that her Mum wasn’t there to meet her daughter, so she tried to remain positive. “I think me Mum sent her as a birthday gift and it’s the best gift I’ve ever had”.

YN is sat on the birthing ball, her hips moving slowly, in her grandparents living room. Harry kneeling down in front of her, holding her gently and whispering how well she’s doing. Louis is sat to her side, holding onto her hand and being a support whilst he can. 

In the hospital corridor, YN has her neck tucked into Harry’s chest as they stop to allow her to breathe through a contraction. Harry places small pecks to the top of her head. 

Sitting crossed leg on the bed, YN takes in the gas and air that she’s holding up to her mouth. Her eyes are closed as she’s breathing through each contraction. 

YN is in the birthing pool, the gas and air still attached to her hand has she takes in another breath, Harry is kneeling down by her side. She holds onto his hand, he looks on with a slight frown on his face as he watches his wife work through another contraction. 

Now lying on the bed, YN cradles her new born daughter to her chest, tears running down her and Harry’s face as they meet their little baby for the first time. Grace Johannah Robyn Styles had stolen their hearts and YN couldn’t have asked for a better birthday gift.

The global mega-hit fantasy novel "The Master of Diabolism" has finally been adapted for the stage!

The original work is the BL fantasy novel "The Master of Diabolism" by author Mo Xiang Tong Xiu, which was serialized on a Chinese online novel site from October 2015 to March 2016.

The story is set in a fictional ancient China where magicians exterminate demons and evil spirits. The detailed and epic story depicting the turbulent fate of two people bound by a strong bond and the charming characters have been well received, and the novel has been translated and published overseas. It has been developed

into a variety of media mixes such as radio dramas, manga, anime, and live-action dramas, and the video works have been viewed more than 15 billion times in total. It has caused a social phenomenon in Asian countries, and its popularity has not stopped, and it is now explosively popular all over the world.

In Japan, the live-action drama version of "The Untamed" (subtitled version) was broadcast in March 2020, the anime "The Master of Diabolism" (subtitled and dubbed versions) was broadcast, the radio drama was distributed, the original novel was translated and published, and the Japanese version of the manga will be serialized in 2024, and it has been a hot topic of conversation.

Now, it has finally been decided that the story will be adapted into a stage play, a world first.

The world is an age of tyranny by the Qishan Wen clan, and the people suffer.

【Introduction】

世界的メガヒットファンタジー小説『魔道祖師』、ついに舞台化決定！

原作は、作家・墨香銅臭（モーシャントンシウ）により、中国のオンライン小説サイトにて2015年10月から2016年3月にかけて連載されたBLファンタジー小説『魔道祖師』。

物語の舞台は、法術を使う者が妖魔や邪鬼を退治する架空の古代中国。強い絆で結ばれた2人の激動の運命を描いた緻密で壮大なストーリーと魅力的なキャラクターが反響を呼び、海外でも小説が翻訳、出版された。

ラジオドラマ、漫画、アニメ、実写ドラマなど様々なメディアミックスを展開し、映像作品はシリーズ累計150億回再生超。アジア各国で社会現象を巻き起こし、その人気はとどまることを知らず今では世界中で爆発的な人気を誇る。

日本では、2020年3月に実写ドラマ版「陳情令」（字幕版）が放送され、アニメ「魔道祖師」（字幕版・吹替版）放送、ラジオドラマ配信、原作小説和訳出版、さらに2024年には日本版漫画の連載開始と、たびたび大きな話題となっている。

そしてこのたび、ついに世界初のコンテンツとなる舞台化が決定。

舞台『魔道祖師』の第一弾となる本作の副題には“邂逅編（かいこうへん）”と銘打ち、重厚な世界観と複雑な人間ドラマを描き出す。

また、『魔道祖師』のメディアミックス展開に新たな1ページを刻むにあたり、実力派スタッフ・キャストが集結。脚本・演出は、舞台を中心にマルチに活動する伊勢直弘。音楽は、舞台やテレビ、映画と幅広いジャンルを手掛ける坂部 剛が務める。さらに、舞台用にビジュアルを新調するため、これまでにも『魔道祖師』のイラストを数多く手掛けているGearousがメインイラストレーターとして参加。舞台『魔道祖師』製作委員会と共同で、キャラクターデザインの制作を手掛ける。

主人公・魏無羨（ウェイ･ウーシエン）を演じるのは、『大！天才てれびくん』で子役デビュー後、『ウルトラマントリガー NEW GENERATION TIGA 』、『パーフェクトプロポーズ』などの映像出演を重ね、今回が初舞台となる金子隼也。藍忘機（ラン・ワンジー）役は、舞台や映画など様々な場で活躍する廣瀬智紀（『映画刀剣乱舞』、舞台「鬼滅の刃」其ノ弐 絆 等）がダブル主演として務めるほか、和田琢磨（舞台『刀剣乱舞』、MANKAI STAGE『A3!』等）、小松準弥（「仮面ライダーリバイス」、舞台「ロミオ&ジュリエット」等）、田村升吾（『Dancing☆Star プリキュア』The Stage、ミュージカル『刀剣乱舞』等）、村田 充（「進撃の巨人」-The Musical-、 『HUNTER×HUNTER』THE STAGE 2 等）など俳優陣はフレッシュな顔ぶれから経験豊富な実力派までが勢揃い。

【Story】

世は岐山温（きざんウェン）氏が暴虐の限りを尽くし、民が苦しみにあえぐ時代。

姑蘇藍（こそラン）氏・雲夢江（うんむジャン）氏・蘭陵金（らんりょうジン）氏・清河聶（せいがニエ）氏をはじめとする仙門の修行者らは力をあわせ、温氏の討伐に成功する。

なかでも夷陵老祖（いりょうろうそ）である魏無羨（ウェイ・ウーシエン）は貢献を果たしたが、強大な力を持つ鬼道に手を染めたがゆえに人々に恐れられ、やがて身の破滅を招いてしまう。

そして十三年後。

呪術によって蘇った魏無羨は怪事件に出くわし、宿命の相手、姑蘇藍氏の藍忘機（ラン・ワンジー）と再会する。

事件を追ううちに十三年前の真相に迫ることとなり―――

2人の激動の運命をめぐる物語が始まる。

I KNOW NOTHING ABOUT THAT! [ Lev haiba x fem!reader ]

My works are made for chubby readers but, it is not implied on this one.

Ever since you and Lev started dating, you haven’t been able to experience the feeling of being alone in your personal space. Well, it’s not like you’re complaining. You love him and his presence. Your giant man who tries to hog all your attention to himself. 

 

You and Lev agreed to spend the holidays with your side of the family. He said that he wanted to meet those people who raised his beloved. 

 

Your family is big, not just big like 7 people. Once all of you have gathered at the main house, it will start to look like the whole city in a single household. 16 cousins, including you—you’re the youngest. You have 8 nephews and nieces who range from 10 years old to 2 months old. There’s around 10 elders. But that’s fine. The main house is basically a compound; it has 4 houses, a big garage, and a big backyard. 

 

Christmas was a blast; you were able to introduce Lev to everyone. It wasn’t surprising when everyone loved him, especially the elders. They all said that you guys were a perfect couple. So while he was basically stuck conversing with the elders, you were bonding with your baby nephews and nieces with your other cousins. You’ve always loved kids; the kids have always been drawn to you. It was no surprise that when the night came, they all wanted to sleep next to you—well, not all. 2 of your nieces wanted to. With two kids between you and Lev, he wasn’t able to cuddle up with you. He probably won't be able to in the three following hours either.

 

"Hey, babe,” Lev whispered, facing your side of the bed. 

 

You can see his pout, and you know the reason behind it.

 

“Hm?"You said while nuzzling up with your baby nieces. 

 

“I love you,” he said, stretching his arms to carefully caress your soft cheeks.

 

“I love you more, babe,” you responded, leaning forward his touch. “C’mon get some rest now; there will be lots of cooking tomorrow,” you added, smiling at him.

 

Morning came, you woke up, and you were alone in the bed. The three that were with you already made their way outside to start their day. You checked the time, and it was only 7:30am. You cleaned the room and got ready for the day. You joined them outside, having conversations with everyone, helping with cooking, decorating, and taking carrots of kids.

 

December 24, 2024

11:59 pm.

“Come now, everyone. Let’s have a countdown.”

You and Lev stood next to each other, gleefully waiting for Christmas.

Merry Christmas!!

Everyone shouted; fireworks were lit up.

 

After that, the party began, and everyone was opening their presents. 

 

The party started to settle down after a couple of hours.

 

Everyone went to their respective rooms. The two small girls who slept with you and Lev last night decided that it was time to spend the night with their mommies. “Really? You don’t wanna sleep with Auntie anymore? "You pouted at the two girls. “Mhm, mommy said that families should be together during holidays,” one of them said. "Yep, yep, also, big bro over there was talking with us earlier; he said he reallyllyyy loves cuddling with you,” the other girl pointed at your boyfriend. 

 

Lev was shocked and turned his back. “Huh? Me? Ahh, I know nothing about that,” he said, slightly panicking.

 

You just giggled and gave the little girls a peck on the cheek. Both of them left your room and went to their family.

 

You walked towards your boyfriend, who was now sitting on the edge of the bed. “Did you really say that, hm?"You said, joining him and slightly chuckling.

 

“W-what? No…” he said while he lied down to cover himself with a blanket.

 

“Sure, you did not,” you said, tucking yourself next to him. “I was planning to give you extra kisses and everything because I felt bad for not being able to do so last night,” you whispered to his ear. “But I guess I was mistaken,” you said, rolling towards your side of the bed.

 

Lev tensed up and instantly rolled next to you. “Come here, please?"He whispered. “I miss you so much.” You can basically see his pout despite the lack of light. You chuckled at his behavior.

You kissed him. He kissed you back; well, no, he peppered you with kisses. “I need to take back what I missed yesterday,” Lev said.

I decided to type out the contents of the three blogs that I posted yesterday re: February 10-12, 1992 entries concerning HIV test results. The way that I posted them yesterday made it hard to follow the story line. I've include some editorial notes as points of reference.

Page 1:  2/10/1992 Monday

First day back. Has a good feeling  to it—fully alive—robust. Trials stretching out to mid April Two preliminary hearings tomorrow. It’s all wild, wooly, crazy stuff. (This is in regard to the Deputy Public Defender job that I had in 1992.)

Dinner with Anne and Steve tonight. A lot of talk about HIV (HIV-AIDs virus). Anne tests again tomorrow. I get my HIV test results at 10:30am Wednesday.

Arturo and I discussed the possibilities (of my HIV test reults). He told me that when he found out (he had tested positive with the HIV virus) he could not sleep all night..

My feeling is—if I got it, I got it. That bugged Steve. I just wanna snuggle and sleep. Nite.

2/11/1992 Tuesday

Just now our wind—is silent…a mournful train whistle speaks through the space that the wind has left behind.

Tomorrow, the HIV test results. I don’t really think about bit too much. Maybe, deep down, I do a lot.

2/12/1992. Wednesday

Test results were “non reactive”…thank god. “You can test again in 3 to 6 months if you want to. 

‘ Eg: from late last November , point of last possible transmission via Alan.

The negative results makes me feel more solid about life.

Steven gave me a hug saying “I’m glad you are OK.” Suprized me.

And, the beat and rhythm of life goes on. I’m really glad that I tested, for the experience, to say I diid it. I did my rhythm dance up to the time of it and found that there was no way to be prepared. All I asked was  “as much as possible, be open to the feelings, whatever they may be."

“The game is not to get it” AIDS… instruction to 9769. Today, we were all numbers…0033, 00 this, 97 that—waiting (for the HIV test results) in the (hospital) hallway with the cemetery (across the street) view. “Is my trip shortened?” Is my journey lighter by time and distance?”

For me, for now, the answer is No, in this odd world where negative is good and positive is bad.

I feel an underlying joy, but a surface level melancholy…Why? For those who have gone before? I don’t know.’

Eddie Redmayne Starring Opposite Julia Roberts in Sam Esmail’s ‘Panic Carefully’ (Exclusive)

Eddie Redmayne, currently starring in Peacock’s buzzy series Day of the Jackal, has joined Julia Roberts and Elizabeth Olsen in Warner Bros. Pictures’ Panic Carefully.

Sam Esmail, the creator of the well-regarded thriller series Mr. Robot, wrote the script for the feature and is directing.

Plot and character details are being kept in the hard drive, but the project is described as a paranoid thriller that has tonal influences of Silence of the Lambs and involves the hunt for a cyber terrorist. The film is also a reteaming of Esmail and Roberts after Netflix hit Leave the World Behind.

Esmail and Chad Hamilton are producing via Esmail Corp., along with Scott Stuber, Roberts, Marisa Yeres Gill and Lisa Gillan. Kevin McCormick and Chrystal Li are overseeing the project for Warners.

Panic Carefully came into the studio after a heated bidding war earlier this year. Part of the appeal for the filmmakers was a commitment to a theatrical run, which this year has been a growing factor in the selling of projects for filmmakers.

Redmayne’s Jackal series, in which he stars opposite Lashana Lynch, has proven to be a surprise hit with critics and audience since its debut in November. It was ranked no. 1 on Peacock’s top 10 TV shows and in the Top 5 streaming originals in the US during its debut week. The actor, who is one of the show’s exec producers, received Golden Globe and Critics’ Choice nominations for his performance. The show has already been renewed for a second season.  

Redmayne was recently seen on Broadway reviving his role as the Emcee in Cabaret, earning him a Tony nomination for lead actor in a musical. He also played the part in the 2022 West End revival, which he initiated, and went on to win the Olivier Award for best actor in a musical.

The actor, who won an Oscar for portraying Stephen Hawking in The Theory of Everything, is repped by CAA, United Agents, and Jackoway Tyerman.

“I always look like a Smurf after having you in my chair,” Annabelle snapped her gum as she pressed the pads of her fingers into Clementine’s scalp, rinsing out the last of the colour.

Clementine nearly forgot to respond, practically melting into the basin from the massage, “you wear gloves.”

“Well, they don’t go up to my fuckin’ armpits, do they? When are you gonna switch from this blue? It’s been, what—two years? Longer?”

“I’m not switching from the blue Annie, it’s cute, and besides, what would I even do?” They’d had this conversation time and time again. Clementine didn’t argue too hard because there were only two hair salons in the shrunken city and Annabelle was the only lady who was happy to take her on before opening and not pepper her with questions on her life.

Because Annabelle didn’t give two shits about Clementine Watson or Mark-fucking-Bradley. She’d listened to Eye for an Eyeexactly once, and that was only because she thought Clementine was joking when she said she wanted a private appointment to avoid the public. As quiet as Willowbrook was, the townspeople weren’t exactly immune to gossip.

“Well, we could start with purple but red would be so cute. Or we could finally go platinum.”

Clementine snorted a laugh, “when my hair goes white, it’ll be from old age… but I can think about purple.”

The appointment was over too soon. Mickey, who had been scrolling on his phone in the corner of the room, the picture of boredom, was grateful to be getting out of the salon. Having a bodyguard in Willowbrook felt like overkill most days, but the near-constant company wasn’t so bad when she made a conscious effort to stay away from crowds.

Not to mention her manager, Tom, hadn’t given her much of an option.

Her phone nearly buzzed itself out of her pocket, she held it to her ear as she got in the black hummer, Mickey taking the driver’s seat. “Hey Clem,” at Mickey’s raised brow, she mouthed Tom’s name. “Just wanted to check that you’re on schedule for your flight at 11:30am—I know how you leave things last minute. Are you packed yet? I want to have you picked up and at the penthouse for drinks on time tonight.”

“Yes, I’ve packed Tom, I was doing so when you called last night,” she said, pulling down the sun visor and sliding open the mirror, taking another look at her hair. All over navy with some brighter blue highlights. The same as always, just a touch up. “We’re just going to get some breakfast and then well be at the airport, I swear.”

“And you remember your security detail is changing, there’ll be a Simon Riley from Protecta waiting to collect you when you touch down, okay?”

“I remember.”

Tom sighed, “I don’t like you travelling alone.”

She tugged at a loose thread in the seam of her sweatpants, “you’ve got me in first class for nearly eight hours. The layover’s an hour and a half, I’ll get a late lunch or something—besides, I’ll be three hours ahead of schedule. When I touch down it won’t even be five yet.”

“Just—message when you can. Oh, and D’Angelo’s complaining that you haven’t replied to him in a few days, do I need to worry?”

“No, I’ll see what he wants. Go back to sleep old man, it’s too early for you to be awake.”

In the second of hesitation it took for Tom to respond, Clementine knew he was rolling his eyes. “I’ll see you this evening—text me!”

She hummed a reply and hung up, slumping further into her seat. “Kind of wish you didn’t have a family,” she murmured.

Mickey cracked a laugh, “I’ll be sure to let my wife know you said that.”

“I didn’t mean—”

“I know, I know,” he smiled. Mickey was just an oversized teddy bear. “But I can’t be travelling for nearly eight months and leave my wife alone with the twins. She’d kill me twice over.” Catching her slipping smile, the man shook his head, “you’ll be fine. Protecta’s got a good rep.”

“Sure, but I don’t know this Simon guy.”

“You didn’t always know me,” he countered, and she gave him a look before staring out the window, watching the snowy city centre pass by. Saying goodbye to her bed this morning had been a poor way to start her day, and it only seemed to be getting gloomier as the day went on. “It’s a process Clem.”

Mickey had accompanied her as far as he could, she saw him waving through the window as she boarded. She couldn’t tell if he could see her wave back.

It was the layover in Chicago that made her antsy.

She ate a six-inch sub from Subway and sipped on a small bottle of blackcurrant juice before spent the rest of her time loitering a bookstore, distractedly skimming the spines after sending off a text to Tom. Pointedly leaving D’Angelo’s message unopened.

She needn’t have worried so much, tugging her cap low and taking a seat by her gate with a half hour to spare, no one gave her more than a glance. She was just another traveller in sweatpants, fiddling with their phone.

LAX is where she encountered her first problem. For the life of her, Clementine could not see Simon Riley.

Double checking the grainy (frankly intimidating) photo Tom had sent her as ID, she cast her gaze out at the crowd again and a knot of worry tightened in her stomach. She fired off a few messages to her manager, who, in turn, passed on her number.

] Turn around, you’ve missed me three times.

Irked already, Clementine turned and found herself staring at a tall, large man wearing a black fabric face mask and holding up a piece of paper that said Miss Watson. The crowd parted around him, and she nearly wished she was walking with them. Away.

“You could have said something instead of watching me panic,” she snapped, walking up to him. She felt a little stiff in her knees, and neck, not having moved a whole lot in that last flight was catching up with her.

Other than the mask, he wore a thick black hoodie, fading dark jeans, and boots. The fabric at the top of his shoulders was slightly darker, promising wet weather outside. He crumpled the paper sign and tossed it in a bin, nodding his head towards the exit doors that streamed in bleak daylight. The sun was already setting at 4:45pm. “Drinks are at six, do you want to go straight to your hotel?”

His accent made her ears perk up, unexpected. Though, she had a feeling she’d learn to expect the unexpected around him. “Hotel? I’m staying with Lucky and Fowler tonight.” She pulled up her hood as they left the airport to find the car, drawing the strings to ensure her hair would require no extra finesse to look nice tonight.

“Since when?”

“Well, I never booked a hotel room. I always stay with them in L.A. The hotels here are just too much.”

He pointed out the charcoal grey car, just a different shade of the hummer she’d sat in that same morning, and they both climbed in. “Right,” he simply grunted and looked about on his phone for a moment before dropping it back into the cupholder in the centre console. “It’s a thirty-minute drive to theirs and another twenty to get to the hotel for the party. Long day for you.”

She would’ve been struck by the comment if she wasn’t so preoccupied with the first part, “you just have everyone’s addresses memorised?”

“Would you rather I just walk around with my head up my arse?”

Blinking, she just frowned, returning to her phone.

He turned the radio up.

And otherwise, they sat in silence.

“Clem! I missed you!” Megan “Lucky” Cole seemed to be two glasses of wine down when she welcomed Clementine into her house. They had a place up in the hills in a gated community, it was large, but they had an eye for design and comfort. They’d made a home for themselves. “Ooh, is this the new security guy?”

Her eyes had drifted to the car parked at the end of the driveway where Simon sat in the driver’s seat, head dipped as he looked at something on his phone. “Yeah, Simon. So far, I think he might be an ass.”

“Tough luck,” Lucky murmured, and then tugged her the rest of the way inside and closed the door. “C’mon, put your bags down and get changed, you smell like an old sandwich,” she said, with a pointed glance at the smudge of sauce long dried on her chest.

“Thanks,” Clementine mumbled, bumping her shoulder as they walked deeper into the house.

Lincoln Fowler was sprawled across the couch in the living room, in all but his shoes, gazing sleepily at the television across the room. He did a partial crunch, seeing who had just entered his house, and gave her a slight nod, his sunglasses perched on the very tip of his nose, his brown hair in wild disarray per usual, “how was the flight?”

Another shrug, “long as ever,” she turned to Lucky who was grabbing her keys, “I’ll head out in ten, see you there?”

Lucky nodded, giving her shoulder a squeeze before they made their way out of the house. Clementine took her bag to the spare room and rubbed her face. She could practically feel the bags under her eyes.

She changed in the bathroom. Nothing crazy, just a black long sleeve with a scoop neck and some flared jeans. She swiped on some makeup and dragged on her boots and a thick coat, dredging her sunglasses out of the bottom of her handbag.

By the time she was locking the door behind her, the rain had stopped. She made her way to the car at the end of the driveway, putting on some lip-gloss as she went and twisting her rings.

“You’re gonna be ten minutes late,” Simon said the moment she opened the door.

She just wanted to sleep her way from now to rehearsal tomorrow. Getting drinks with producers and crew and that magazine writer was entirely different from just getting drinks with the band. This was a schmoozing party to meet everyone and to “build camaraderie after so long apart” as Gabi, the band’s publicist, had said (while talking her into attending). “Can we take the scenic route?”

His eyes bore into the side of her head, she could feel them as she fastened her seatbelt. “Did you not just hear me? You’re already late.”

“Yeah, and I wanna cut down the time I’m gonna be there,” she bit out, eyes flashing, “so take me for a fucking drive.”

It was clear in the set of his brow, lowering over his eyes, that she’d just pissed him off, but her patience had been waning since she got out of bed.

“Or I’ll go for a walk by myself.”

They both knew that wouldn’t happen, couldn’t happen. A) he’d never let her out of his sights if he was half the helicopter she was already assuming him to be. B) it was dipping towards freezing outside and regardless of her coat, she was dressed to be indoors. C) Tom would wring the both of them by their necks if they never showed up.

Gritting his teeth, Simon said nothing and pulled out of the drive, rigid from his knuckles to his shoulders. She looked out the window, elbow on the ledge and chin in her hand, watching the asphalt glitter under the streetlights. She wished December hadn’t ended. That she could push out this tour prep just a little longer.

Then she’d at least feel ready.

Maybe.

The streets and passing cars had become static in her eyes as she stared blankly out the window, unmoving. With a jolt, she realised they were pulling into the valet of the hotel Tom had booked. Peering up at the building through the window, her eyes strained, she could hardly see the top. She reached for the door, but Simon’s voice stopped her.

“Hold on—I need to get something clear.”

Clementine turned, one hand on the doorhandle, cutting him with a glare.

“This is gonna be a very long eight months if you can’t listen to me. I can’t have you talkin’ over me, or gettin’ reckless cause you’re in a bloody mood, alright?” She scoffed, a spark of indignation flaring inside her chest. “You’ll only get yourself in trouble that I’m here to help you avoid.”

“A mood? A “bloody” mood?!”

“Yeah, a fuckin’ mood. You don’t wanna get drinks, that’s fine. But don’t try to undermine my authority to keep your head in one piece, yeah?”

Her words tumbled into one another in her throat, making her splutter, “k—keep my head in one piece? What the fuck do you think this is?! You’re a glorified babysitter and an alibi, Simon. Don’t get this twisted—”

“No,” his voice lowered, much like the temperature, as he levelled her with a stare so lethal she could feel herself hesitate to even swallow. “Youdon’t get this twisted. Your ex fucked with the wrong people. Now you’ve got me here making sure you don’t die while prancing across a bloody stage in different countries for little under a year. This isn’t fun, funny, or fuckin’ borin’. It’s a game of cat and mouse, and you’re not the cat Miss Watson.”

“I know Mark had business with Las Almas, Simon, but that’s over now. I cut my ties with him long before he got put behind bars.”

Simon just looked at her, the bags under his eyes told her more than he did. Something had been bothering him for a while before they’d even met. “Things like this are never over until the debts been settled. Plus interest.”

Like her own hand on the door handle, a vice-like grip took hold of her chest, her palm grew clammy. “How do you even know any of this?”

“There are far worse things you should be worryin’ about Miss Watson. With any luck, you won’t ever have to find out.” He got out of the car, crossing round to open her door. She looked at him, properly, as he stood before her.

The mask obscured his lower face, but still, there was a silvering, twisting scar that crept out like a vein towards his left temple, forming a dent across the skin of cheekbone. He had his hood down now, exposing the dirty blonde hair he had cropped short to his head.

When light hit brown eyes, usually they looked like gold. Simon’s eyes were little more than an abyss, promising nothing beautiful, offering no embellishment. No warmth, just a steely glint.

“So, are you gonna listen to me or are you about to test my patience?” He offered her a hand to climb down from the car.

She looked at it and climbed down by herself, tugging her coat tighter around her shoulders, “I didn’t ask for any of this, you know,” she said, glancing up at him just once before turning her shoulder, heading toward the entrance of the hotel.

“Oh my god,” someone gasped when Clementine stepped into the kitchen, fixing herself a glass of brandy with ginger ale. She looked up, everyone was gathered in the living room, chatting and lounging about the couches like it was someone’s house and they were all friends.

Gabriella Ortiz, the band’s publicist (“Clementine’s shit wiper,” as she’d once drunkenly titled herself), leapt up to greet her, “Clem, so happy you made it!” There was a sharpness to her eyes that told her she was not impressed by her less-than-prompt arrival. “Come, I want you to meet Olivia from Applause Report, she’ll be conducting interviews for the documentary, and will also be running the blog. She’s a big fan,” she added, with a tight, reprimanding smile. Behave, it said, be nice.

The woman in question, Olivia, was flushed across her cheeks when Clementine approached, getting to her feet from the couch to shake the proffered hand. It was clammy. Something clicked in Clementine’s head, “are you the one who runs that “Peeler’s updates” subpage on Applause Report?”

The way Olivia’s eyes bulged gave her away. “Oh my—you’ve seen that?” she managed to get out, looking utterly mortified.

Clementine huffed a disbelieving laugh, “I get the notifications. You’re very, um, dedicated,” was just a nice way of saying creepy, “to the band.”

“Guilty as charged,” she said, a tiny smile flitting across her lips, “I’m a long-time fan.”

A pillow hit the back of Clementines leg, she turned to see D’Angelo raising a brow at her from the couch, “not even a hello?”

“Hello,” she deadpanned.

“Can we talk?” He asked, hooking a thumb over his shoulder to the balcony.

She glanced back, seeing Olivia’s eager face in front of her, and suppressed a sigh to the best of her ability. From the corner seat, she could feel Tom’s gaze burning holes in the back of her head. Being late to what was basically orientation day (night in this case) and not talking to band members would not sit well with him. So, she obliged.

Setting her glass down on the coffee table, she shoved her hands into the pockets of her coat—yet to take it off—and followed him out onto the balcony. The wind whipped across her cheeks like there were blades in the breeze, making her eyes water. “I don’t think there’s anything more that I can say, D.”

He sighed, leaning against the railing, “I know.” He shrugged, reaching up to rub the back of his head, “I actually want to apologise.”

That got her attention, she turned to face him finally, her gaze torn from the city lit up like a sound desk, “you don’t have to. Really, I’d prefer to just forget it.”

“But you can’t, and you won’t talk to me. I…I shouldn’t have kissed you. I was confused and lonely and saw something that wasn’t there. I’m sorry Clem.”

Even beneath the moon and its cool winds, she thawed, her eyes dipping to the damp pavers beneath them as she nudged his boot with hers. It’s okay, it said, I’m sorry too. He huffed a laugh, nudging her back. “Kind of wish we never played crushed bone for the label—that it didn’t get put on the record,” she admitted, nudging her chin under the fur lining of her coat. Illuminated by the lights from the living room, her breath came out in white puffs. “It was simple when no one else heard it.”

He nodded, “yeah.”

“I’m sorry for ignoring you,” she offered after a while, just before they returned inside, his hand freezing on the sliding door. “I panicked. After Mark—”

“Don’t,” he cut her off, “neither of us want a relationship with each other, I know that now. It was just really fucking poor timing. I wanted to get that sorted before we spent eight months at arm’s length in the same room, you know?”

“Yeah.”

“C’mon, you’ve gotta meet Bogen’s camera guys, they’re playing beer pong on the other balcony.”
