Right near the exit of the 3rd floor we got a little sneak peak at the Wolf FOE. It’s a deceptively modest enemy... and then we emerge on the 4th floor and immediately are made aware of [i forgot to count before i started killing them, but, like, half a dozen probably?] of FOEs on this floor, and they are in fact a whole pack of Wolves.
On top of all the things we’ve been learning about FOEs floor by floor until now, we get another new mechanic: Once in battle with one Wolf, every Wolf still on the map outside of battle with aggro and close in on your fixed position each round of combat. If they get to your position while you’re still in combat the FOE can join the battle. To make this more complicated, the floor is another series of winding, narrow hallways; so one misstep could get you cornered in a deadend and dogpiled by Wolves.
I know broader game design isn’t really the point of this blog, but I gotta say, I really love the fact that they added an in-dungeon heal spot at the end of the 3rd floor. It’s very unlike this game and this franchise in general, but it’s kind of a subtle genius move here; right now the approach to FOE has been to avoid them entirely, and their placement and patrol routes are optimized to let you; but this 4th floor makes them unavoidable. But to unlearn our survival tactics and incentivize more aggressive hunting of these Wolves we’ve had several steps to ease us in. When we fight the first Wolf on 3F, it’s an event trigger, and not facing down the FOE orb on the map; by telling us when we enter 4F that the FOE are Wolves, there’s no apprehension about entering into a battle unprepared like first encounters with other FOEs; and the heal point allows us to confidently throw ourselves into these dangerous fights without fretting over retaining enough HP and TP to make it all the way back to town. It’s a really delicately designed situation.
Oh, but also Clawfly??? This trips my usual petpeeve with recolors: I feel like recolors are best used with a good amount of distance between their appearances, and/or with clear meaningful distinctions in their M.O. This is neither. In fact they appear along side Clawbugs, but unlike the Venomflies, which had distinct difference from their more harmless Woodfly counterparts, the new Clawflies are really just slightly stronger versions of the Clawbug.
Also now that I’ve had to fight Wolves, I went back and started seeing how I stacked up against other FOEs. Turns out I’m on good footing with most of them by now, although without the heal point on 3F to work off of, it’d be a different story.
If there had been anything I might have liked done differently about this, I feel like it would’ve been kind of neat to see the Fender monsters conspicuously missing from this floor, implying they’d been the natural dominant species of the first stratum but hunted by the wolves since their unexpected arrival from the lower levels. Even that premise to this whole mission, which I guess I kinda glossed over before, is a great little detail. The deeper levels of the dungeon are an unknown factor, but as something disrupts the ecosystem, monsters of disproportionate strength start making their way up into vulnerable weaker levels near the surface. The second stratum Boss implicitly driving out the wolves, who show up and threaten the Fender herd and aggravating the Ragelope. I’d actually really LOVE an RPG that accounted for some kind of ecosystem (un)balance in its design, where attempts to grind or farm would actually proportionally affect shifts in the monster appearance, distribution and levels; grinding on enemies thinning out their population, starving out the stronger predators, effectively drying up the available experience and loot pools; or overhunting powerful enemies drawing in ever stronger boss-tier monsters into the power vacuum.

Havent yet seen anyone compile the collector’s bedtime story and castle paintings into a red string theory post for The Owl House S3E2, so here’s that…
Our Collector’s bedtime story:
“Collectors live long, we watch things pass. To preserve, to observe, we must amass. What flies, what swims, be it predator, or prey, seal them up so they may never fade.”
We get a shot of the next line in the book, which Our Collector tells king not to read. It says:
“But should they meddle in our affairs, we’ll clean the planet and scorch the air.”
Our Collector tried to scribble over that part and wrote on top of a picture underneath it: “But playing is more fun, make friends instead, and the others STINK! BOO!!”
The picture that was written on looks like a group of people offering praise to three huge adult collectors.
We also get a little peak at some of the words on the facing page: “-se quee-“ and “-s the poten-“ and further down, “-erdimensi-“ and “dimension” and “family”
Then, in the scene where king walks down the hall, paintings line the walls.
On the left...
1a. (Closest to the viewer): three adult (?) blue collectors gathered around an orb; a little purple collector (Our Collector?) is off to the side
1b. In the foreground, a little blue collector and a big blue collector examining titan skulls. In the background, there is what appears at first glance to be a titan (yellow eyes), but upon closer inspection it looks like the titan hunter in the next painting.
1c. Again, at first glance it looks like a small titan fighting two big titans (both with red eyes), but given what we know, this is more likely a titan hunter going up against actual titans
1d. Four blue adult collectors smiling down at a purple collector/Our Collector?
1e. (Furthest from the viewer): four baby titans (all with red eyes) gathered around a purple collector/Our Collector? It looks like they are all floating in space
On the right…
2a. (Closest to viewer): a solar system?
2b. A yellow comet that seems to be falling from the sky into a mountain range
2c. A huge sun with a smiling face looming huge behind some mountains
2d. A crescent moon; on the dark half of the moon, an oval shape that looks like it could be a big yellow/orange eye
2e. (Furthest from viewer): a moon with a smiling face?
More paintings can be seen in other shots.
Behind Odalia: repeats of images we saw already, specifically 1a, 2b and 2d. There’s a fourth image behind her that looks like a new one; we get a clearer look at it later, but all we can see of it in this shot looks like the same comet from 2b.
In the hall near the entrance to Eda’s “room:” More repeats, but all of these paintings are slashed, which may have been the work of Eda in her owl monster form
There’s also another hallway shot with more new paintings when puppet-Raine-possessed-by-Belos is walking toward the collector’s room.
On the left...
3a. (Closest to viewer): Repeat of 1a.
3b. Three blue adult collectors looming over and glaring down at two titans (both with red eyes), one of whom looks like one of the titans who was fighting the titan hunters in 1c.
3c. repeat of 1b.
3d. (Furthest from viewer): repeat of 1c.
On the right…
4a. (Closest to viewer): a repeat, but the clearest shot so far of 2d. Definitely looks like part of someone’s face, with a big yellow/orange eye peeking out from the dark half of a crescent moon. Below the moon, three comets and then clouds
4b. repeat of 2c
4c. probably a repeat of the fourth mystery painting behind Odalia, but this time it’s unobstructed; a big bright star/comet in the background behind a smaller crescent moon
4d. repeat of 2a
4e. blurry, but definitely the moon. Cant see any more detail than that.
4f. (Furthest from viewer): also blurry, but maybe a half-moon/half-sun reminiscent of Our Collector’s face
Then there’s the scene with king, Eda and Lilith that Our Collector eavesdrops on. Lilith mentions “borrowed books” and we see a scroll next to King that has the same color text as Our Collector’s bedtime story book. The scroll depicts a baby titan using its powers to knock out a little purple collector.
Lilith goes on to say it looks like titan magic can cancel out collector powers and that’s why the collectors wiped out the titans.
With all this info, here’s what I think (TLDR):
The collectors are inter-dimensional overlords. They discovered the boiling isles, then ruled by the titans. The titan hunters and titans may have already been at war when the collectors showed up. Our Collector made friends and played with some baby titans, but the other collectors were threatened by titan magic, which made them powerless, so they used a bunch of the titan hunters (maybe even possessed them, based on the yellow eyes in 1b?) to wipe out the titans. Before they all died, though, the titans saved one of their babies (King) and sealed away Our Collector.
However, I’m not 100% sure what to make of the paintings on the right side of the hallway in either shot, other than to further establish collectors as semi-omnipotent inter-dimensional beings.

Ramblings: Reinhart Signs, Line Combinations, Defence Rankings – September 20
The 2018-19 Dobber Hockey Fantasy Guide has everything fantasy owners need to get an edge on their competition. There are: line projections; player projections; articles for scheduling, advanced stats, specific categories, and more; a draft list for different leagues; notes from each team. Be sure to head to the Dobber Shop and get yours today!
*
Sam Reinhart signed a bridge deal with Buffalo for two years with an AAV of $3.65-million. He was one of the handful of remaining RFAs left.
Reinhart has been quietly productive on a very bad Buffalo team in his young career. Riding shotgun with Jack Eichel both at five-on-five and on the power play, as both start to enter their primes, should be a huge boon for the team. Right now, I have him as a starting RW in 12-team leagues that start three right wingers, coming in as RW33. If the Sabres can start producing more at even strength, he has 60-point upside. Just be wary of over-drafting him; I would not take him in the first 10 rounds of a 12-team league and he might climb there in some leagues now that he’s signed.
*
Wednesday afternoon I started a best ball draft over at Fantrax.com. It’s officially a Beat Dobber league where the goal is to beat the man himself.
For those unfamiliar with best ball (I guess best puck) drafts, they’re essentially no-moves leagues. You draft your team and that’s it. There are no trades or waiver wire moves. Whomever accumulates the most points through the season wins.
These types of leagues gained prevalence in fantasy football so it’s nice to see FanTrax step up and provide something similar for hockey fans. For those that don’t have the time (or inclination) to set your lineup, assess your team, stay current on information, or negotiate trades on a daily basis, this is the league for you.
*
Calgary and Boston played their second and final preseason game in China yesterday. Jake DeBrusk had a nice goal in the first period, driving wide and going under Mike Smith’s arm. That’s where the good news ends for fantasy enthusiasts like myself who are high on DeBrusk this year. It was Ryan Donato, and not DeBrusk, skating on the top PP unit along with Marchand and Pastrnak.
That’s the problem here. DeBrusk has a lot of upside if he can get those minutes but will be hindered if he doesn’t. On the flipside, this is a huge boon to Ryan Donato’s value. The team rain winger pairs of Marchand/Pastrnak and DeBrusk/Donato which means the latter two could flank David Krejci to start the year. If Donato is on that line at five-on-five and on the top PP unit, there could be a big year coming. He should be highlighted on draft lists right now.
Matthew Tkachuk didn’t dress for the game but it’s said to be a precautionary move and not a serious injury of any sort.
*
All summer I’ve been railing against drafting Rasmus Dahlin where he’s being taken – often inside the top-100 players – mainly based on the fact that he wouldn’t get top PP minutes for the Sabres. Without those top PP minutes, there just wasn’t much upside, especially considering the quality of the team.
Well, Tuesday night it was Dahlin, not Rasmus Ristolainen, on the top PP unit. It was a mostly-full roster, too, with Skinner, Eichel, Okposo, and Mittelstadt all playing. Assuming Sam Reinhart is the fourth forward, Dahlin may be in line to at least start the year on the top PP unit. He’s still overvalued but it’s a good sign for Dahlin backers.
*
A quick update on Zach Werenski from Aaron Portzline of The Athletic. He’s set for a checkup on his shoulder today and if all goes well he’ll be able to sustain some “controlled contact.” The hope is still for him to get in a preseason game or two and be ready for the start of the season. Things can change quickly with injuries but for now it looks like Werenski may be fine for opening night.
*
Speaking offensive defencemen:
Erik Karlsson has been skating mostly with Marc-Edouard Vlasic, while Justin Braun has been with Brent Burns. Joakim Ryan not out here, though, probably because he played last night #SJSharks
— Kevin Kurz (@KKurzNHL) September 19, 2018
*
Arizona played a pair of split-squad games a couple nights ago against the Kings, but they had a lot of their top guys on one team. Notably, Alex Galchenyuk and Clayton Keller skated together at both five-on-five and on the power play, contrary to where they were slotted when camp opened. (Shout out to HockeyViz.com for the line combinations). Richard Panik was skating with Derek Stepan at five-on-five and those two were also on the PP unit with Galchenyuk and Keller.
My hope had been that the duo of Galchenyuk-Keller would skate together this year and we may get that opportunity yet.
As a small aside: Stepan’s line was largely matched against the trio of Carter-Toffoli-Pearson, leaving Galchenyuk’s line take softer matchups.
*
Carolina ran these PP units in practice a couple days ago:
Faulk and Hamilton together for some PP work, along with Aho, Necas and Teravainen.
In the other group, Kuokkanen seeing time with Slavin, Staal, Ferland and Williams.
— Cory Lavalette (@corylav) September 17, 2018
I’ve stated I’ve been hesitant to downgrade Justin Faulk, even after the acquisition of Dougie Hamilton, just because we didn’t know if they were going to run a 4F/1D PP with a new coach in town. Well, they aren’t. At least not right now. The only person missing from the groups at that practice was Svechnikov.
*
Let’s talk about Nashville for a second.
We’re only a week into preseason. We have nearly two more weeks to go. Things can change quickly and they often do when coaches are trying to figure out what they want their lineup to look like for the first regular season game in October.
With that said, the Preds ran these lines a couple days ago:
I'm intrigued by the Predators' potential top nine, keeping in mind that it's the preseason and it's possible these lines won't be used in the regular season:
Forsberg-Johansen-Fiala Jarnkrok-Turris-Arvidsson Tolvanen-Bonino-Smith
— Adam Vingan (@AdamVingan) September 18, 2018
That is great news for Kevin Fiala owners, or potential owners. It’s bad new for Craig Smith backers as he’s pushed to the third line. Smith had a rebound year in 2017-18 and the line of he, Fiala, and Kyle Turris were very good together.
Further on the Smith front, Vingan also said recently in a fantasy hockey piece on The Athletic that Eeli Tolvanen “should receive ample power-play time.” All of Smith, Forsberg, Johansen, and Arvidsson, their top PP unit last year, but they’re all right-handed shots. Tolvanen is a lefty. Getting a forward with a left-handed shot on that PP quintet makes sense. Keep an eye out as preseason continues.
For what it’s worth, Tolvanen was on the second PP unit in practice yesterday with Smith still on the top unit.
*
The Dallas/St. Louis game a couple days ago was interesting from a roster perspective. Dallas went with this top-6: Benn/Seguin/Radulov and Janmark/Spezza/Nichushkin while St. Louis had a top line of Maroon-O’Reilly-Kyrou.
Dallas also used Spezza as the fourth forward on their top PP unit instead of Nichushkin. If Nichushkin doesn’t get those minutes, it’ll be hard for him to have much fantasy relevance in most leagues this year.
It also seems likely that Maroon starts the year somewhere in the top-6 for St. Louis. He’s been practicing with both O’Reilly and Brayden Schenn with Robby Fabbri practicing often on the third line. That should bring relevance to Maroon in 12-team leagues even without those top PP minutes.
*
Something important to note from last night's Florida/Montreal game.
The Panthers had pretty much their NHL lineup for this game, including their full top-6, Ekblad, Yandle, and Luongo. The top PP unit did not have Jonathan Huberdeau with the trio of Trocheck/Barkov/Hoffman, rather it was Evgeni Dadonov. That is a significant adjustment in fantasy value for both Huberdeau and Dadonov should that persist.
*
Last week when I released my rankings I said there would be some tweaking to come. The Tweakening has come.
Mostly, the changes had to deal with power play time and usage. There are some players whose usage was undervalued because of limited prior experience – names like Mikhail Sergachev and Colin Miller – as well as some players who’ve just changed teams, which could lead to different usage.
Below are my rankings for my top-61 defencemen this year and the rankings are for standard Yahoo! leagues, which include goals, assists, PPPs, SOG, hits, and +/-. More names will be added by the weekend to try and help those in leagues deeper than 12-teamers.
As with the rest of my rankings, these try to account for positional scarcity. This is something I’ve come around to more over the last year or so, especially with regards to defencemen. I’ve come to see the light that Steve Laidlaw has been shining. I’ll explain why.
The way I account for positional scarcity is by finding what a replacement-level player at a given position produces – it’s an average of the output in all categories by a handful of players that are deemed to be at the top of the value list on the waiver wire. Then it’s figuring out how much value does a given player provide above (or below) this amalgamation of a replacement-level player in each category, with the value total summed. The results are a bit startling:
Brent Burns is my number-1 defenceman. Kris Letang is my number-12 defenceman. The excess in value I have Burns providing over Letang is about 39 percent. Conversely, Alex Ovechkin is my number-2 forward and Brock Boeser is my number-24 forward. The excess in value I have Ovechkin providing over Boeser is about 40 percent. Relative value is a real thing that matters a lot.
The top of my rankings won’t differ much from others. The top-10 will have a bit of shuffling around but they’re mostly heavily-used defencemen with a grasp on the top PP unit from likely high-scoring teams.
Once you get past the top-20 defencemen, there isn’t much of a difference between the next dozen or so. That means once you get past guys like Matt Dumba and Alex Pietrangelo in drafts, there isn’t a huge difference between grabbing Ivan Provorov or Jeff Petry, or Oliver Ekman-Larsson or Kevin Shattenkirk, for example. If you’re targeting someone in that range, you may be better served waiting a few rounds to grab someone similar and keep drafting forwards or adding to your goalie pool instead. I’ve added tiers to my ranking to reflect this reality.
I don’t directly address plus/minus here, but guys who will likely be killed by it (Ristolainen, Shattenkirk, and Leddy, to name a few) have had their rankings adjusted to reflect this. For most players, it is ignored. (We, as a community, need to eradicate the scourge that is plus/minus in fantasy leagues).
Here are my updated defence rankings.
2018 Fantasy Hockey Rankings powered by FantasyProsECR ™ – Expert Consensus Rankings ADP – Average Draft Position
Notes on players that are ranked higher or lower than rankings from others on Fantasy Pros:
I am much higher on Oscar Klefbom than most. I get that recency bias is a thing and Klefbom’s 2017-18 was miserable. He was also battling a shoulder injury that flared up before the season even started and nagged him most of the year. He looks to be healthy now, though, and is locked on the team’s top PP unit. If that Oilers PP can right itself, Klefbom is in line for 40 points with 200-plus shots. He’s a steal right now by his ADP.
The only thing Jacob Trouba needs to be a top-30 defenceman is to stay on the ice. Health has been an issue for him in his young career, but if he can manage even 75 games, he can easily be a 30-point guy with strong peripherals even without top PP minutes. That type of player – and we can add guys like Parayko, Provorov, and Ekblad to the list – is valuable.
I like Keith Yandle a lot and don’t have any real particular issue with where he’s being drafted. That said, his ADP right now – and generally where he’s being ranked – is about where he finished last year in a 56-point season. He’s a safe pick, but where he’s being drafted, I don’t think there’s a lot of upside/profit to be had.
I guess I won’t be drafting Jake Gardiner much this year.
These rankings will continue to be tinkered with until the season starts. Any questions or projections requested? Hit the comments.

NICKNAMES OF HYBRIDS IN FOUR FACTIONS
Before I go any further with this post, it's important to note the main species of the Four Factions world:
Catenae [C] is the species native to Predator.
Sheyan [S] is the species native to Cyber.
Kathariso [K] is the species native to Mystic.
Tortimingu [T] is the species native to Frost.
Mukhtafi [M] is the species native to Dune.
This post is specifically about the hybrids of the Four Factions universe. Hybrids are people who are more than one species. In this universe, there are specific names for different types of hybrids, which is what this post is here to list. The names are under the cut.
C + S = Kaptinmo [C dominant] - Kunbei [S dominant]
C + K = Spefalsa [C dominant] - Frodia [K dominant]
C + T = Intregga
C + M = Khatri
S + K = Miwalan [S dominant] - Ateveil [K dominant]

GOVERNMENT IN FOUR FACTIONS
Cyber
Democracy
Can be compared to the U.S’s system of government (voting system, different branches, etc)
Anybody can be president (do not have to be native to Cyber)
Presidential elections are held every two years
Due to this, the same president can be elected at least four times (with two year terms for each elections)
Has an unfortunately lengthy list of not-so-great presidents
Used to support the Frost government (this has since been ended)
Currently isolates itself from world events
Doesn’t involve itself with issues in Cyber like pollution and crime (unless it gets very bad)
Has made passive aggressive attempts to take land (mostly from Predator) but has never made a real move yet
Although male presidents are more common, there have been a fair amount of female (and even nonbinary) presidents
Current president is named Deliah O’Quinn and she is on her second term
Predator
Anarchy
It has no real form of government, however there are many catevras (tribes) in Predator
Different catevras have claimed certain areas of Predator for themselves. While you don’t need a permit or anything to enter, you are at risk if you do
One noticeable catevra is the Ventas catevra (they’re well known and feared within the region for a variety of reasons)
Despite not having an actual government, sometimes catevras will come together to discuss important matters (events happening outside of Predator, food supply, etc)
To other factions, the catevras basically make up the Predator government
Outside of catevras, everyone fends for and is responsible for only themselves
There are no written laws and all crime is (technically) legal
This also means that there is no formal education in Predator, however there are teaching systems
Sometimes other factions drop off supplies and such to Predator, which is always appreciated
Mystic
Monarchy
There have been 3 families who have been in power in Mystic
The current one is the Kyria Bloodline, and the current monarch is Queen Mayea
People within the bloodline are considered royaltly and are rumored to have greater magical abilities than the average kathariso (<- native species to Mystic)
When one bloodline is about to die out, the last remaining monarch of that family will pick a close family to become the next bloodline
Along with Frost, the Mystic government is one of the more active governments in the world
Despite this, the queen rarely ever leaves Mystic due to previous assassinations in other families
Heavily dislikes the Frost government
There have been two monarchs who have been overthrown during their time in power
Frost
Dictatorship
Functions sort of like a monarchy, where the children of the current dictator will take control of Frost once they pass (if there are no children to take their parent's place, then it gets passed to another person with similar views)
The current dictator is only known as "Kage"
Nobody knows anything about them due to the fact that they're very secretive
Yes, they're a bit of an asshole
Kage has been controlling Frost for nearly 30 years
Frost's government has a tendecy to start problems with other factions, specifically Mystic
Has the biggest military of all factions
Very strict and supressive to the citizens of Frost, espesically with laws
Freedom of speech is not allowed in Frost
Riots frequentally break out in Frost due to this and are usually handled by the military
Dune (not technically a faction, but whatever)
Monarchy
Very similar to Mystic's government
Not invovled in world events at all (rarely ever talks with the factions)
Rather than magic, royalty are considered to have stronger poison than others
There has only been two bloodlines who have run Dune
The current one is the Hadyi bloodline (has a king and queen)
Queens have more say in things than kings do
Although freedom of speech is allowed, participants in riots and such are sometimes punished harshly

INTRO POST
-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-
Hi. My name is Truth and this account is for storing all things related to my original worlds. This post will serve as a masterpost of sorts for them. At the moment I have three worlds that I will be posting here (I have more but like. I like these ones the best :] ). Out of those three, you'll most likely see me post about Four Factions the most. This blog will include concept art, character references, and lore for these worlds. Questions about my worlds and the characters in them are greatly appreciated. Thank you for reading this!
(side note: I suck at naming my worlds btw. the names are very self explantory so they're probably gonna change at some point. also I do sometimes post world art on my main, @truthdawn, but it's mostly fandom stuff there. also, a lot of these worlds are horror-themed. just a heads up.)
