im trying to get back into researching things im interested in so im reading this paper on fungal endophytes and WHOAHHHH this is so cool
So, in addition to mycorrhizal fungi, basically all plants have fungi that live completely inside them that are symbiotic with them and confer various benefits to the plant. And it's WILD
Some highlights of this paper
in a tropical forest, trees can have dozens of fungi species living inside a SINGLE LEAF, and different leaves on the same tree can have completely different fungi
Some endophytic fungi can switch to free-living lifestyles without a host?? they evolved to grow symbiotically inside another organism but they can just decide to live by themselves no problem???
endophytic fungi in grasses cause Effects on animals that eat them. for example there is a grass called sleepygrass that makes horses that eat it sleep for 3 days. A similar grass with a similar symbiont is called drunken horse grass and grows in Asia
Dichanthelium lanuginosum, a plant that grows near super hot geothermal pools, is inhabited by Curvularia protuberata in all its tissues. By themselves, neither plant nor fungus can survive heat of more than 40C, but when in symbiosis, they survive up to 65C

The other night, I broke out a recipe I hadn't used since maybe 2021: Surprisingly Easy Basic Baked Cheesecake! I used to make these all the time for park hangs. They're portable, super simple, and pretty quick, and everyone always loves them, even if I overbake them or misjudge the ratio of crust to cheesecake.
This time was a bit experimental because I used cream cheese that had been frozen and Came Back Wrong with a very clumpy, crumbly texture, but they still turned out smooth and creamy and delicious. Also, I've also made it without the crust (thought I had biscuits but I was wrong!) and that honestly might have been even better. Jury's still out.
You can also make a fruity topping if you have the time and inclination. I usually do a quick saucepan sauce with frozen blueberries, bourbon if I have it, a pinch each of sugar and salt, lemon juice, and a slurry of katakuriko (potato starch) if it needs thickening.
Anyway, click through for English recipe and tips on doing mini cupcakes instead. I'm not sure I've ever done one big cake, actually.
INGREDIENTS (makes a single 18-cm cake or 10~12 mini cheesecakes) 200 g cream cheese (room temp) 90 g sugar 2 eggs 200 cc fresh cream 30 g cake flour 1 tbsp lemon juice 100 g biscuits 40 g unsalted butter (room temp) INSTRUCTIONS 1. Crush biscuits (in a bag with a rolling pin, or using a food processor) and mix with room-temp butter by hand until well combined. Grease a cake pan and use plastic wrap to shape into a crust inside it. (For mini cheesecakes in a muffin tin, just grease it and spread a thin layer on the bottom of each one.) 2. In a bowl, mix or blend the cream cheese until it forms a cream. Add sugar and then eggs, mixing thoroughly. 3. Gradually stir in the cream. Sift the flour and stir it in. Add the lemon juice. 4. Pour batter into cake pan and bake at 170C for 40-45 min., or until a toothpick comes out clean (or an internal temperature of 65C). Let cool and refrigerate 2~3 hours. NOTES
For a smoother texture, you can remove the bubbles by lifting your pan to height of ~3cm and dropping it a few times. I can't really do this with a soft silicone muffin tin, but I do stretch and shake it a bit, and use a fork to puncture any visible bubbles.
After about 30 minutes, I cover them with tinfoil to stop the tops from burning. Also, about the cooking time: 45 minutes seems short for a big cake because that's what the tiny cupcakes take, but that may be the fault of my oven, which is electric and weak and also so tiny that it still manages to burn things because everything so close to the heating element.
Cooling: if you're short on a time, you can put them directly into the fridge uncovered and it will be fine.

AI integration in game software will eat your cpu. It is not a godsend. It is an eldritch creature that will consume resources and burn out your cpu.
An example of this: Oblivion Remaster added AI to the game to generate frames in the world, theoretically to increase fps. It is the reason why everybody was having crashes, poor fps, and hot cpus. I discovered that feature and turned it off and the game became mostly stable and my cpu was happy.
Like it went from a constant 80C to 65C. My FPS stayed around 30-40 and only dipping below 20 when it rained.
CPU: Intel Core i9
GPU: GeForce RTX 2080 Super
RAM: 32 GB
Storage: 1TB SSD
My rig is getting old but back in ‘21, this build was #3 for top of the line for gaming. So I know my settings are going down the older it gets. I started with Ultra for Oblivion and reduced the settings to try and stabilize the game and nothing was working. I know my rig should be able to handle Oblivion on High at least and was doing fine in buildings and dungeons but struggled in the world and my cpu temp would spike to a constant 80C. That’s when I discovered the AI feature that generated frames in the world to help populate the play area as you approached and to increase framerate.
Except it wasn’t working as it claimed. So I turned it off and suddenly the world stabilized, my framerate increased and I could set it to High. I still had the occasional crash but I noticed it’s because I’m entering an area with large resource population like npcs, ingredients or some weather effect is happening like rain. Tweaking the settings for things like that stabilized the game more, but I never had a framerate problem or a hot cpu anymore after turning off the AI.
That’s how bad the AI integration is.

BTS MOMENTS: Hobi & Grace - Are you sure that's safe?
Tumblr media
“Are you sure the heat pack needs to be that hot? That doesn’t look safe,” Hobi said as he watched from where he was sitting, frowning as the staff member handed over the portable heating pad that was switched on at 65C (149F).
It would be utterly typical that her lady day would start the same day as their performance in Tokyo Dome, the first show as well. Grace had woken up that morning in the hotel room, with severe cramps and a stain on the bed which was a little embarrassing to try and explain to the team and the hotel staff. Not only that, the cramps were severe to the point that the moment she stopped walking, she was bent over in the middle.
Really, not a great way to start their Tokyo performance.
Hence the reason the medical team got her period heating pad ready and had it on the highest setting they could.
“Hobi, I love you but shut up,” Grace sighed as the heat made contact with her skin and the slight vibration was doing wonders for the cramp that was working its way across her abdomen.
“Well, it doesn’t!” He defended himself as a member of their medical team handed over some painkillers to Grace with a bottle of water.
“Heat is the only thing that helps at the moment,” grumbled Grace after swallowing the tablets and curling up into a ball on the couch.
They had a few hours left till the start of the show so for Grace it would be the perfect opportunity to have a nap, let the heat do its thing and then hopefully feel better to get up, get changed into the costume and have her make-up done. She just needed to get through each performance without leaking.
Hobi glanced over at Grace again and frowned once more. He knew it was going to be a bad day for her and he had lived with her long enough to know the best thing to do was to leave her alone, maybe find some chocolate and let her rest.
“Just don’t burn yourself,” he sighed as he grabbed a blanket and threw it over his sister, making sure to tuck her in. He could feel the warmth of the pad from the back of the couch and as much as he was worried, if it helped then it helped.
“Wake me up in a couple of hours?” Hobi heard Grace murmur from where her face was pushed against the pillow.
“Of course,” Hobi laughed and pushed some of her hair away. “I’ll make sure the team has some snacks ready for you as well.”

WIEIAD 09/04/2025
(if you look at it, I'm losing weight the healthy way but as much as I hate it and can't control all my snacking, at least I'm not binging :/ I'm still recovering from having so much yesterday so I'm lowering and lowering everyday, tomorrow's limit will probably be 1k calories)
Breakfast (kill me) -> Keto Tortilla x2 (180c), 25g chocolate cake (very healthy breakfast.😣, 103c)
Lunch -> Whole Wheat Tortilla (170c), 16g Cottage Cheese (13c)
Dinner -> Pizza: 77g Pita Bread (188c), 44mL Italian Tomato Sauce (18c), 12g Cheese (24c), 25g Cottage Cheese (20c), 16g Chicken (26c)
Hot Chocolate: 80mL milk (32c), 1g Cocoa Powder (5c), 19.5g Sugar (65c)
Snacks (TwT) -> 20c worth of random stuff I was test tasting, 47g banana (42c), 20g grapes (13c), Banana Rice Rusks x2 (30c), Popsicle (35c), 5g Popcorn (29c), Tortilla + 25g Cottage Cheese (110c), 26g Bread + 4g butter (89c), Powerade (3c)
Total -> 1,215c
Steps -> 7k (-222c)
Net -> 993c
Posting this early cuz I finished having dinner a couple of minutes ago. Technically, I'm good on losing weight of I stay under 1,613 calories but losing normally makes me feel really bad so tomorrow I'm gonna try to eat like 600c, skip breakfast and just skip most of my snacks (besides popsicle, drinks or banana rice rusks). It's getting really annoying to having to lists all of the snacks I eat so I gotta stop snacking😭

hey, so I'm trying to figure out what places would be good to sell my own art at, and I'm wondering- what has been your experience with selling on etsy? I've heard mixed reviews from people, and I want to know your perspective as an etsy seller.
etsy is not perfect but i think it gets a little more shit than it deserves, i've thought about opening my own website but generally i'm actually pretty okay with the services i get on etsy compared to what it costs so i'm just gonna make a subjective pros/cons list for you under the cut (because its loooong)
oh and if anyone else has experience selling on etsy and would like to add their two cents in the replies/reblogs please do!
Pros
⭐ The search function - this is etsy's biggest selling point. it already has a dedicated userbase of millions of people and a search feature to help them find your shop, which takes a lot of the load of marketing off your shoulders, and marketing is a huge factor for pushing sales. i am not good at marketing and a lot of my sales just come from people searching my stuff up lol
⭐ Purchase protection program - if USPS loses or damages your package, you file a missing package report and they confirm they don't know where it is, Etsy will refund your buyers order out of their own pocket (under $250). this is my favorite etsy feature because USPS likes to eat packages every now and again. delicious keychains. if you had your own storefront, you'd just have to replace the order yourself.
⭐ Share & Save program - every time someone makes an order on your shop through a special Share & Save link, etsy will refund you 4% of the fees. it's a nice perk to doing some of your own marketing and it helps combat the moderately high etsy fees!
Trackable letter mail - selling stickers but think it's insane to charge $4 shipping? you can buy letter mail labels for about the rate of regular postage, which is like .65c. this tracking is done through etsy though so you can't track with usps, but it does give customers a little peace of mind. this only works in the 50 US states though.
Customs forms built into your shipping label - shipping internationally is a nightmare. etsy makes it easy though, generating everything you need to ship internationally on one label that you just have to sign and date and slap on your package like normal. for some countries they will actually just have your package sent to a domestic facility where they literally do all that for you. this is miles easier than having to do all that paperwork yourself.
buy shipping labels directly from etsy - related point, and just what it says on the tin. when you fulfill an order, you can buy your labels right there on Etsy so you don't have to mess around with a third party website. it comes out of your sale funds so you don't need to charge a card or a bank account or anything.
star seller program - some people say this is completely useless but i actually disagree! it's incredibly easy to earn this badge, and it lets buyers know you've got some of the best products, shipping, and customer service around. it helps you stand out from some of the more... questionable shops on the website.
sales tax - they remit sales tax for you. i don't think any of the other online platforms similar to etsy do this but i could be wrong. doing any kind of taxes sucks so i consider it a perk if they do it for you.
website promotions - every now and again etsy likes to host sales out of their own pocket. you get all the perks of having a sale without eating into ur profit margin. HUGE sale booster
generally the site is just very easy to learn and use and it's very beginner and dumbass friendly. i say this as a former beginner and current dumbass 👍
Cons
❌ the fees. oogh the fees. they claim it's just a 6.5% fee per sale, but on top of that you have to pay .20c automatically for every individual item you sell, plus there are processing fees (3% + .25c) that apply both to the item you sold AND the cost of shipping. i think it comes out to like 10% total in fees on average @ > @
❌ but wait, there's more fees! if you make more than $10k in sales a year (very easy number to hit actually) you are forced to participate in offsite ads, which i believe takes 15% of your total sale on top of the fees in the previous point. these kinds of sales are not as common as you'd think, but it's still annoying having a couple bucks shaved off your profits a few times a month because of them.
corporate bullshit - etsy is like renting a space in a mall. you don't own your lot, nor the mall itself, so if upper management decides to make any stupid ass decisions, you just have to deal with it or pick up and move. if they decide to raise fees again, you just gotta Deal. you are a little bit helpless on this website unfortunately
the push for discounts - etsy is constantly shoving it in your face that they want you to do discounts. they want you to have free shipping on orders over $35, they want you to do 25% off or more on sales, they want you to have returning customer discounts and abandoned cart discounts and 'you recently favorited this item' discounts - but you already have to compete with the steep fees, and when a customer gets free shipping, you still owe USPS that $4-ish bucks to send the package. you don't have to do any of this, but they do reward participating shops by favoring them in the algorithm and search results, so you can feel like you're missing out.
there aren't as many cons imo but they Are steeper cons. generally etsy is very beginner friendly and easy to get into and set up, and in spite of everything i do actually recommend everyone looking to get into online retail start on etsy and perhaps move to other platforms in the future. plus, you can combat all the fees by just... making your prices a dollar or two higher than you initially wanted to, and using your 'save and share' link as frequently as possible. the fees are a little bit much, but you have to think about what you get in exchange:
the search is invaluable, you could argue the fees are partially a marketing budget lmao. if you have a private website you alone have to push traffic to your website, and not as many people know about things like shopify and bigcartel so they might not be as trusting putting their card details into it. i miss out on a lot of REALLY COOL STUFF because artists only advertise on instagram and i don't hear about them, meanwhile if i want some cool owl house stuff i can literally just search that in etsy and find a lot of TOH stuff super easily. i cannot highlight enough how GOOD the search function is, especially in this day and age where social media like instagram and twitter will blacklist your posts if you say words like 'shop' or 'sale' and now nobody can find your stuff in that website's search either. its very hard to do your own marketing now a days :(
being able to refund customer's lost orders out of the company's pocket is such a nice thing to fall back on if you have to and worth its weight in fees. USPS lost like... four or five packages of mine in december. that's like $100 or more worth of stuff that Etsy Covered Completely, and a lot of the times the customer will take that refund to make their order again. don't abuse this system, make sure you check with usps that the package is actually Gone, but it's a godsend when you don't make billions of dollars and eating the cost of lost orders would otherwise sting a bit.
if etsy did not make international shipping easy i simply would not ship anywhere but the US to be honest. shipping to europe is still a headache though but that's because europe is stupid
that's everything i can think of, but tl;dr yes please open an etsy 👍 i recommend it completely in spite of everything
⭐ if anyone wants to open their own etsy shop, use my referral link to make your first 40 listings for free! :)c ⭐
