My copy of the Langst zine by @icypantherwrites came today! <3 I've already read through both of the exclusive stories and let me just say, HOO boy! I really recommend getting a leftover copy if there's any left. If you love Lance whump/langst, this zine is for you. The cover is soft too, it's so nice?? I've...never bought a physical copy of fanfiction before, I'm so glad this was my first experience doing so. welcome the the sixteenth fic rec friday! where, on friday, i rec five of my favourite fics.  

1. home depot catalogue by @moonguilt

“No, really, he’d love to,” Lance said into the phone, just as Keith pressed the button for the kettle to start heating up.

Those words were enough to raise Keith’s suspicions just a tad. He shot Lance an inquisitive glance while opening the cabinet to retrieve his box of morning tea, but his husband was the picture of innocence, flipping casually through a Home Depot catalog they had received in the mail yesterday.

“Oh, definitely. If you need someone to paint your insides white, Keith’s your man.”

Keith dropped his box on the counter, tea bags spilling out onto the granite.

Keith is having a normal, relaxing morning. Lance throws him a curveball.

this one made me LAUGH. out LOUD. it’s domestic and fluffy and FUNNY dear god, like it’s such a lance thing to do and such an objectively funny prank that i just!! literally just typing this makes the urge to reread it too great my hand has been forced.

Lance struggles with his attraction to Keith during training, and it all comes to a head when Keith corners him afterwards to ask why he was off his game today.

one of my fave vld tropes EVER is lance being whipped and then equally as furious that he’s attracted to keith at all. it’s endlessly funny to me. and then keith being the eyebrows raised, not surprised one??? gets me every time. also keith is a massive sweetheart in this fic and i love him

3. chocolate granola bars by @moonguilt

“A pillow fort sleepover!” Lance cried out, leaping up with such alacrity that Pidge had to grab her laptop to prevent it from sliding to the floor.

“No way, we're not—” Pidge stopped and blinked, exchanging a glance with Hunk, then looking back at Lance again. “... Oh.” She evidently had not been expecting such a tame suggestion. “Okay.”

Or, Lance is bored out of his mind and decides to organize a sleepover with the squad. Nonsense ensues, and Lance works through some confusing emotions—particularly those involving a certain mullet-haired team leader.

okay there are too many good things about this fic i cannot choose which to highlight, and so i will mention them all. ahem: a) lance is a ray of sunshine who regularly uses his power of cuteness to his advantage, b) adorable team bonding, c) shiro is a dorky nerd, d) HEALTHY LANCE AND ALLURA COMMUNICATION, e) krolia and romelle have actual characters, f) lance has allergies which isn’t rly important but he gives me a vibe that he’s allergic to several things and it’s very validating to see it in fic, g) lance validation and feeling expression for the piece of shit game show episode, h) observant lance!! and i) literally the most painful and necessary and well-written klance fight i’ve read in a while! hurt badly but was resolved wonderfully 10/10

4. Terminal Velocity by @speakswords [GORE WARNING]

The only fate worse than being tortured to death is watching, helpless, while the person you love most takes your place.

this is one of my fave vld fics of all time. although fair warning it is very violent for a good chunk of time. the story is EXCELLENT, the entire thing will have u biting ur nails in terrified anticipation and i mean that literally. whole time i was gagged. at the edge of my seat. AND i have several specific lines screenshotted bc the pure fucking devotion and care knocked me out of the water

5. you and me are cosmic dust by Yuu_chi

Knowing that your team loves and trust you no matter what and believing it are two very different things.

i LOVE keith angst. i know this fandom is very langst heavy and honestly i am too but sometimes keith angst is so so good. and this fic is one of them!! excellent read and features observant lance as well. OH and there’s a little sprinkling of suave keith in here too lol

[WIP Langst Mini Fics and Ideas #1]: “Who Am I?” (Scene ?)

It’s been a year since I last updated any of my VLD fics and written any of the prompts I have piled up in my inbox. Heck, I’m not even updated to any of the langst fics or whump fics or any fics in the VLD fandom. So this time, I’m going to post all the WIP langst fics and ideas I have stored in my folders.

Who knows, your opinions might jump start my motivation to continue writing.

This was one of the scenes I was planning to add in the fic “Who Am I?”

This fic was set before the end of season 2

“When I grow up, I wanna be a space pilot!” Lance said it with all the conviction of a child declaring his dream for the whole wide world. The setting that they were resting along the shore and watching the clouds passing by only added to the childish effect of those words.

“Space? Like...outside of the earth?” Leo looked at his brother with wide eyes full of amazement for his older twin.

“Yeah! I am going out there! Flying with the stars! And meeting pretty aliens!”

Leo and Lance laughed when they imagined this.

“That’s impossible, Lance!”

“Why?”

“Other planets are very, very, veeeerrrryyyy far away from us.” Leo stretched out his hands in an attempt to measure the sky, “It’s impossible for you to meet aliens.”

“There is no such thing as impossible, Leo! Always remember that!”

“Ahuh~”

And the two of them settled in a quiet company. Just listening to the waves created from the ocean and letting their feet be splashed a little bit. They were really closed and Leo loved this moments were they were just spending time talking about their dreams and stories spun from their own imaginations.

“What about you, Leo?”

“Hm?”

“What do you want to be?”

“Well… I surely don’t want to get out in space but…”

“But?”

“I want to make a novel about your adventures in space!”

And so they made a pact. Lance would set out there someday and Leo would write his tales of heroism.

They were partners in crime.

That was until two became one...

Langst Mini Fics

WIP Collection #2

So I am, in fact, a whore for homesick (but happy) Lance. A big family, a sob-fest of a reunion, and can go on for days abt how much he loves them

But I'm also a HUGE whore for langst fics where he was abused or smth (because I can't go one hyper fixation without projecting)

So langst fic, where he grows up on the streets of Cuba homeless but eventually gets picked off the streets and put into foster care. He's still young and cute enough to where he's adopted by the second or third try, but it's by a big family

They're good to him, but borderline neglectful. Not intentionally, but there's six other kids to take care of, and Lance isn't even the youngest so he's not a priority, per se. He gets attention, but rlly only when he does something considered praise worthy.

Getting straight A's, becoming the soccer teams captain, getting a scholarship, those kinds of things. And his siblings realize this too, so its a house full of kids older than Lance doing cool things and getting praise and attention for it (which is the beginning of Lance's insecurities)

Lance gets complimented a total of 11 times after he's adopted. Yes, he counted. And yes, after each time he cried tears of joy.

But he's flinchy, doesn't like being surprise touched, hesitant to share, eats his food like someone is gonna take it from him, and in general, has all the signs of a fucked up childhood.

But Lance is rlly good at playing it off and avoiding subjects (occasionally outright lying) so no one rlly catches on

Except for Shiro and Keith

Shiro has seen all these signs in Keith when he adopted him, and Keith had seen the signs in himself and other kids shoved into the foster care system. They talk it out with the team (minus Lance)

And from there it snowballs into one realization after another, bc after its brought up everyone starts piecing together little pieces of the puzzle that is Lance

And all collectively and actively try to assure Lance subtly that he’s safe, wanted, and reinforce that he can talk to them if he needs to. 

Doesn’t really help, so Hunk and Shiro (separately, of course) try to talk to Lance about it. Doesn’t go over well, if fact, it kind of outright backfires when Hunk (after Shiro tried the first time) tries and is, not quite yelled at, but he sure is kicked out of Lance’s room and is ignored for a full two days 

Keith get’s him alone in the observatory or smth, and they trauma bond essentially 

And then a slow burn from there of team bonding and Keith and Lance slowly falling in love

“Meaning you miss us dearly, don’t you?” he teases. Keith grumbles at him, and he grins to an absent audience. “But, ah, I don’t think we’ll see each other anytime, um, soon, unfortunately.”

“Things are getting busy on your end, huh?”

Lance hums. His gaze slides down to his right leg. To torn skin and shredded muscle, white bone peeking out. To blood, to a soaked-through suit, to the pool under his shin painting the snow-dusted ground a stark red.

He smiles weakly. “Something like that.”

I headcanon that the first time Lance and Keith hugged in private was after Lance talked about his homesickness and how much he missed his family.

Keith, who isn't a touchy guy, offer a hug for support and he knew people do that to help others. What he didn't expect was to tear up himself because Lance's hugs feel so safe and comfortable for him

He kinda forgot about it until voltron was helping a planet and a kid was separated from his parents.

“A Collection of Langst Volume Three” Fic List!

Whoot, whoot, our fic list is here for  “A Collection of Langst Volume Three!”

I did end up making some changes to it as originally I had Patreon exclusive fics in it, but after some thought I chose to remove them as that’s not fair to those supporters and readers. I may have one as a later stretch goal, but that would be it. Stretch goals to be announced ~2 weeks.

This time around there will also not be a zine exclusive fic until the zine reaches a certain number of preorders (I’m thinking 25) and then a second zine exclusive fic will be at a higher stretch goal (perhaps 75). That’ll just give us a little more incentive to purchase, help advertise the zine a bit as we can host polls for the zine fics during the process, and it gives me just a little bit of breathing room :)

Real quick; since I had this question a couple times last preorder session; no, unfortunately you cannot order copies of older Langst zine collections as I go through a different publisher for the zines than the books and they don’t accept smaller quantities. Sorry! You do also have to order during the preorder block as I will not be ordering extra stock for after.

New Fic: Thou Shall Not Tell Lies

The second fic from my zine “A Collection of Langst Volume One” that benefitted the charity Warrior Canine Connection. 

Thou Shall Not Tell Lies

Summary:

The Paladins of Voltron were liars. They were liars who had murdered her family. She would silence them. She would make sure they never told another lie again. And she would start with this one, this one who appeared kind, appeared sweet and nice and honorable and a hero. She knew better. She caressed the needle in her hand as she gazed down at his face, at his lips where the poison spewed. She knew what a liar he was. And when she was done with him everyone else would know too.

Story snippet:

“I can stay for a cup,” he inclined his head. “Thank you very much.”

“Go, sit,” she gestured to the small room right off the kitchen, a low couch and chair taking up most of it.

“Do you want any help?”

Help?

He offered her help?

He offered help after all he and his Paladins had done?

“No, I— ”

She broke off.

Yes.

Oh, yes.

“My sewing basket on the table,” she said. “Can you pull out a spool of…” she looked at him, at the blue armor and blue eyes and made her decision, “blue thread? These hands,” she held them up, knobby with age and playing the role once more of helpless elder, “are not so good for small things.”

“Of course.”

He smiled again, that sick line.

When she was done he would never be able to do so again.

Ok so I have a couple fanfic ideas, and if anyone can write them PLEASE DO SO!! And if you know any fics that fit any of these descriptions please send them my way. THANK YOU!!

Ok so these are gonna be for a whole bunch of different fandoms, and when I think of some others, I’ll add them as I go. All plots and ships can be adapted, just a loose idea of what I want to happen. Some I can’t think of characters so that’s up to you.

Song fics:

1. My heart I surrender - I Prevail

Ship: Bakudeku (Boku no Hero Academia)

Plot: Either Bakugo or Deku or even both (doesn’t really matter, fits both, will be referred to by K/D/B) are having crisis over feelings or something happening to the other, and to get over said thing and get back on rhythm, the class does a singing contest/karaoke, starts off alright then K/D/B either choose this song or say they want to sing an original song - could also be a band au. Sprinkle a little bit of angst of childhood memories and badabing badaboom you got a bkdk story.

2. Astronaut - Simple Plan

Main focus: Lance (Voltron)

Ship: I think no ship would be better but if you want a ship, I don’t care who.

Plot: Langst. You know the standard, Lance is ignored, his homesickness, depression and anxieties are bass boosted to the max, and no one notices -if ship is included they are the only exception- and he is reading into things too much. Standard langst, I really don’t care what kind you write. Anyway, on one particularly bad day, Lance is yelled at more because everyone is having a bad day, because Lance decided to take a night off from putting everyone to bed because he wanted to have a day for himself, Lance is feeling especially down, goes into the earth room, or could be singing to child, or to calm himself down, but either way he is singing astronaut by Simple Plan, you can decide if he has a guitar for this, but someone overhears -could be ship or just random person- and realises that ‘Hey, Lance isn’t ok’, and tells the team and they realise they have taken him for granted and so on so forth, end it however you want.

3. Gone too soon - Simple Plan

Ship: Malec (Shadowhunters)

Plot: Alec dies, could be on a mission or from old age, Magnus grieves and plays this to help get over it.

If mission: Jace, Clary, Izzy, Simon, Raphael and whoever else, they all go over to see how Magnus is doing after the funeral, and they walk into him playing it on guitar, while wearing alecs clothes, a slideshow of his memories of Alec and all Alec’s belongings around him, he is singing when he starts to cry and hyperventilate, and everyone rushes over to him to comfort where he just breaks because Fuck this is the hardest goodbye he has ever felt since his mother died.

If Old Age: start off with Alec in hospital or something, him and Magnus laying together in the bed, Magnus wakes up and realises that Alec is gone, fast forward to the funeral, Alec was the last one of that generation to pass, Magnus visits the cemetery whenever he can, one day he takes a guitar, or not, and sings the song he wrote to them all because these people were his family, one he had been looking for for centuries. Finish with Magnus walking away, and the ghosts of the shadowhunters sitting on their gravestones all embracing as they realise that Magnus has finally accepted it and will begin to heal and move on.

Movie Au:

1. The Greatsest Showman

Ship: Literally any ship, I live for Greatest Showman/Circus AU’s - cannot get enough of them, wish there were more for my ships.

2. The Broken Hearts Gallery

Ship: Bakudeku with past Tododeku

Side ships: Kirishido, Ochiida, and Shenki

Plot: I know this movie has literally just been released in cinemas, I saw it today, but on my way home from watching it I was trying to think which ship would it fit with, and that ship is all I could think of. So Deku as Lucy, collects random crap from past relationships, lives with Shinsou and Ochako, Iida basically lives there too -moved in with Uraraka if you want- Deku is dating Todoroki -plays Max. They work in an exhibit together under Aizawa, or someone like that, when on the opening night of an exhibit, Monama -Plays Harvard- tells Deku that Momo has come back and that she and Todo are getting along. Deku gets drunk and has to introduce Todo as director of exhibit, makes a fool of himself, later that night after being dumped by Todo, and fired, he gets into what he thinks is his Uber, but is literally just Bakugo’s (Nick) car. Literally just follow rest of storyline. Marcos: Kirishima, Marcos’ wife: Mina, Chloe: whoever you want as Bakugo’s ex that shows up for a total of like 5 minutes, max.

Plot: Any ship can fit the plots, each movie could be the same ship or you could switch it up and have a different ship for each one, for example,

First movie:

Bakugo as Austen, Deku as Sam, Uraraka as Carter, Aizawa or All Might as Rhonda, Hisashi as Fiona, Shigi and Dabi as Breanna and Gabriella.

Second movie:

Akaashi as Mary, Bokuto as Joey, Kuroo as Dustin, Kenma as Tammy, everyone else up to you.

Third movie:

Kenma as Katie, Kuroo as Luke, Hinata as Angela, Bokuto as Mickey, Lev as victor, everyone else up to you.

Tropes and ideas I want to read more of:

1. Cheerleading: Example: Bakudeku

Deku would be a cheerleader, Bakugo would be Football player.

2. Lance’s birthday is forgotten

3. Lance is forgotten when group is deciding something/left out of recreational activities (see @blueplanettrash’s story Three little questions)

4. Anything angsty regarding Lance, but also for any character.
