“things were so hard with dad in recent years...how did he go from paparapluie to père? i wish i could face him and understand, but while he was still here i didn't dare try to tell him [any of my feelings] and now...it's too late.” * paparapluie is a pun on the words papa and parapluie (umbrella) since the plush is a frog. père is the french word for 'father.'
#ml spoilers#ml s6 spoilers#miraculous spoilers#ml el toro de piedra#mledit#miraculous#miraculous ladybug#miraculous lb#miraculousedit#adrien agreste#adrienette#adrinette#my edits#fascinated at umbrellas constantly being a motif for protection in this show. the theme is “in the rain” because marinette fell for adrien#in the rain but he offered her an umbrella (an act of kindness and protection from the weather). next to how#adrien's father used a pun about umbrellas as his own nickname when adrien was younger and he was still caring for him as a dad should#but as he got older his father stopped protecting him so the nickname (and also any form of 'papa') fell through in favor of the#cold + formal + distant 'père.' this specific pun between parapluie and papa might also come from the french poem un papa by pierre ruaud#which is a poem about papas serving as protection and a sort of shelter for their children. so ig ml is saying gabriel started this way too#i think the fandom glosses over the complexity of adrien's feelings for his father bc in earlier seasons he defended + made excuses for him#part of this is because he was sheltered + didn't know better but it's also bc he DOES recall a time before his mother's illness grew worse#(some time between age 6 and the werepapas flashback) when he didn't have an absentee father. the show writes gabriel agreste#inconsistently: in earlier seasons he had moments of concern for his son before he became awful all the time. and these on/off moments give#adrien whiplash because he's left doing things like becoming a model for his father (i'm choosing to believe gabriel didn't use the rings#until later bc much of the earlier seasons make no sense if he was controlling adrien) in the hopes that they'll bond only to realize#his father still won't spend time with him even for a meal. s5 has gabriel making him pancakes (the wrong way) and asking about his day#and his friends and interests only for him to become even more controlling and mean. how he let him quit modeling only to create an#AI version of him without his consent and when he said that made him feel uncomfortable gabriel convinced him it was fine bc now he had#more free time! only to still control how he spent that free time. adrien didn't start grappling with these things until s5#and now he laments the things he never actually got to say about the papa he misses and the father he wished had unconditionally loved him

Now I have to ask- WHY do you hate Pacific Rim?
Okay, fair warning, this is about as bitter and salty and small-minded as day-old caviar. But. My bitter, salty (probably fishy) opinion:
Pacific Rim is only a good movie because it's a well-written story about robots punching monsters.
That's it. That's all there is to the movie.
I started out merely disappointed by Pacific Rim. We went gaga for the preview materials that promised these unique well-rounded character pairs and trios with these idiosyncratic robots from all these different Pacific nations... And then the movie itself is about some bland white American guy who pilots a robot named a racial slur, the second most fleshed-out team is bland white Australian guys, and the Chinese team is there, kind of, in the background, but don't worry they're going to die first. The "character-driven story" turned out to be "various characters take turns punching aliens" but, sure, whatever, I love the MCU so why not.
The day I went from "Pacific Rim is overrated" to "Pacific Rim is the worst thing that has ever happened to human civilization, I'm extremely normal about this" was the day I saw a Tumblr post suggesting we replace the Bechdel test with the Mako Mori test. Because Mako Mori has her own plot and doesn't kiss North Carolina at the end, making her a whole new type of feminist icon.
To which I was like:
We are talking about the same movie here, right? The Pacific Rim that can't even pass the Bechdel test? The Pacific Rim that's all about might-makes-right, the Pacific Rim that has ONE speaking role for ONE female character in its (from IMDB) 50-person cast? The Pacific Rim that repeatedly puts its only female character in danger and has her rescued by first Idris Elba then North Carolina? THAT Pacific Rim?
Is there a different Mako Mori I haven't met? Because the one I've seen a) has a character arc driven by deciding whether to obey her father or follow her heart, which is as inoffensive and stale as an unblessed communion wafer, b) does nothing that Ellen Ripley didn't do 30 years earlier, but with about 5% of the character depth Ripley got, and c) stands there in silence looking sad as two men punch each other over the question of her virtue.
Any post assuming this movie invented the idea of "small Asian woman kicks monster ass" needs to learn its damn history. Especially the ones acting like her being physically small is somehow a feminist bonus. There's something embarrassingly ahistorical about the whole thing.
And look. I get how we got here. I know how easily Tumblr backs you into a rhetorical corner of "calling a story Good can never mean merely 'enjoyable'; calling a story Good must mean 'virtuous'". Until next thing you know you're arguing that actually, shipping Obi-Wan/Darth Vader is a net good for all of society, because gay divorced middle-aged tyrants who use supplemental oxygen and murdered their exes in a custody dispute over the one kid (out of two) they actually care about deserve to see themselves in sci fi too! You only end up in that corner because half the time you're arguing against someone who says that shipping Obi-Wan/Darth Vader is literally the same thing as supporting father-son incest, so your real reasons for shipping them (1. foe yay, 2. old man yaoi) seem wildly insufficient.
Much of what I see about Pacific Rim seems neck-deep in the "it's not allowed to be a Good Movie unless it single-handedly dismantles the patriarchy" fallacy. There's nothing progressive about shipping two dudes best known for chopping off each other's body parts with laser swords. And there's nothing progressive about a movie having its only female character hug the male protagonist at the end instead of kissing him. You're allowed to like a thing just because it's well-made, without acting like a bog-standard normatively-broey action flick somehow invented a new form of feminism. Anyway, "Pacific Rim is a perfectly fine movie" is the hill I will die upon, heretical though it may be.

not going to put the person who said this on blast but come the fuck on. i have an expansive vocabulary and atypical way of articulating and expressing myself because of various personal experiences that affected my language and speech development. this is just a really immature and unkind thing to say to someone.

who are the main characters of Bad Ending? i think that setting is sooo cool and sooo horrifying so i'd love to know more about it. peak sci-fi in my heart
Here are the most developed of Bad Ending’s individuals. There is no story nor a single timeframe, since Bad Ending takes place between the modern day and the death of all life.
Earthlings
Bitedown agents Intel & Close-quarters combat (Molar)
Intel is prenatally nooengineered to rapidly and eagerly absorb information from senses of customizable priority. Typically this is vision, but he can be attuned to scent, sound, touch, and specific ranges of each. This was managed via a nootically mapped and tactically modified form of autism.
Molar is also prenatally nooengineered to scope rooms out for weapons and maneuverability. She does this passively and without stress, but can be activated into a hyperaggressive state where she uses any means to kill designated targets. Her molars have been replaced and her reinforced adductors can break bone. She is unemotive and docile, requiring very little mental stimulation.
Sunflower Complex is the piloting system for a brown windowless reconnaissance jet.
Floret 1 & 2 are two surgically linked meshes that are clones of the same donor. Floret 1 is the conscious pilot of the Complex’s aircraft. Floret 2 is subconscious and serves as redundant support for the Complex’ reflexes and vital organs.
Floret 3 is a small mustard seedlet that pilots the jet if the organic florets are incapacitated or ejected.
MOUS
A surgically modified surveillance agent with built-in sonar, LiDAR, and FLIR capabilities. He is capable of standing very still for extended periods of time thanks to locking artificial muscles. His mechanical insides are cooled by two intakes either side of his neck, filtering into his lungs.
GOSSIP RING
A surveillance satellite housing a dozen nootically linked meshes. They analyze data amongst themselves.
GOD’S FAVORITE
A large wormlike mobile particle accelerator and cenote sensor. Cenotes are holes in time’s past strata.
Balanceaban, “BAAL”
Mexico’s adept war coordinator seedlet. He spearheads resource distribution, medicine, and weapon lethality, sharing his research freely with the world that he brought to its knees.
Cygnet
The US’ war seedlet in response to BAAL. It is daunted by its assigned task of recovering the military footing of a collapsing nation that sits beside the world’s deadliest superpower.
Throneroomers
<Harvest feeds many> “Harvest”
Model-turned-editor for a magazine of fashion and physicality for the Ministry of Arts, a pangovernmental collective promoting every corner of the Thronal supercontintent’s artistic expression.
<Five summers> “Five”
A fashion and physicality model, and Harvest’s closest friend.
<Little bell>
Harvest’s only birthed child, now a software engineer for the Pursuit of Sleep superproject, a global pooling of intellectual and material resource to eliminate the distant threat.

To the ones navigating visible or invisible storms…
To those whose minds flicker like signal towers — misunderstood, mislabeled, misfired…
To those who are stuck in between; who have been through countless of rites of passage…
To those who can’t fill the void within; who restlessly yearn for a place to call home…
To every BPD survivor and artist who’s been called too much, too broken, or too dramatic — when in truth, you were carrying too many timelines in a single heart. And you were being taken down by the ones who were simply too little.
To the glitching geniuses — the neurodivergent who kept transmitting authenticity and enchantment while the world tried to static you out.
To those who’ve screamed into the void, only to make the void echo back in art.
This… is for you.
BPD and neurodivergent people are often brilliant. Deeply artistic. Incredibly intelligent.
No, it’s not about romanticization. It’s about reclaiming and embracing ourselves. Restoring self-regard. Nurturing the inner-child deeply as they always deserved. Reclaiming the essential parts we neglected just to adapt and survive.
Yes, it includes what they try to pathologize — how they reduce us to stereotypes, and shove us all into one dusty box of convenience. We should get untangled from the shallow perspectives and unfair narratives.
We’re not denying the struggle, the pain, or the altered life quality. Yet we do deserve to lay emphasis on what’s shiny about us too.
We dare to look zoomed in or out; to bring more feeling or sense to things. And sometimes we are, and we do, things that can’t even get squeezed into labels. And the list could go on for pages, really…
Most people who don’t live this reality can’t even begin to imagine the dimensionality, the depth, or the creative voltage we hold.
We’re a neon glitch that will always stand out, and be proud to be doing so.
We are more… much more than our survival.
And I dedicate this album to you my fellow void-bound gifted wrecklings 🖤🤍🩶
🔳 We shall never forget the power of the void.

I’m definitely of the opinion that ryuki telling date he loves him should be interpreted romantically and a sign of a potentially more emotional connection, but if there’s anyone who would just say "i loved him" about their coworker they’ve known for a few months that they sometimes get drinks with, its ryuki

Had a breakdown over my career last week and my friend comforted me by saying "no ai will ever be as human as your attempts at making ocs in middle school". And that's actually helped a little? Anyways painting a sketchy baby dragon temporarily fixes my woes!
