“You know, I’m not very patient,” he hissed softly, displeased with the lingering quiet that filled his large room. “Don’t think you have any chance of making it out here alive. Just spit it out already.” Crossing his legs, he reached for the golden wine glass, tapping his sharp nails against the delicate surface, his gaze never leaving yours.

Caught off guard by the pressure, panic slipped past your lips, the words tumbling out before you could fully comprehend their weight. “Just….bite me.” The room fell into an eerie silence, granting you a moment to process what you had just said. Regret mingled as you realized the significance of what you had uttered.

“Well, that’s certainly unexpected,” Sunghoon responded, a mixture of bewilderment and intrigue flashing across his eyes. He sets the golden cup down, unable to form words himself. The request to be bitten, especially after learning his true nature as a vampire, was entirely new to him. It sparked a strange sensation within his being, a feeling he couldn’t quite decipher. Do humans also feel these kinds of emotions?

“You’re definitely a weird one,” Sunghoon remarked, still feeling flustered from your unconventional response.

“What do you mean?” you questioned, pretty oblivious to the whole situation.

“Most people wouldn’t dare to ask a vampire to bite them, especially after their life is on the line. It takes away the thrill of the feast,” he explained, a faint smile playing on his lips.

“Wait, so you vampires feed off fear too?” you inquired, attempting to make sense of the earlier statement.

“That’s a bit rude for you to address us that way,” a small frown forms onto his face. “But, Of course,” he replied, amusement evident in his tone, “That’s why I told you to calm your racing heart. Fear tends to make it beat even faster.”

“Well, guess what? I am scared right now,” you retorted, defiance lacing your words. “But you can just take a small amount of blood–definitely not all of it, I swear. And don’t forget, I’ll fight back if you push too far.”

Sunghoon raised an eyebrow, his amusement turning into a more serious demeanor. “Bold words from a mere weakling. Don’t forget who holds the power of a vampire here.”

“Don’t forget you’re basically glued to that seat.” He taps onto the arm rests of his chair, signaling the leather straps that restrained your hands from moving anywhere.

“Whatever,” you dismissed, frustration tainting your voice. “Are you going to bite me or not? I just want to get out of here, even though I have nowhere to go.”

A flicker of warning passed through Sunghoon's eyes as he leaned in closer. "Don't test my patience. You have no idea what I'm capable of."

Pairing: the lost boys x reader

Summary: The boys feast and chase downs local witch coven and it didn’t work out in their favour. Home was home but at the same time it wasn’t.

A/N: my dumbass deleted the original post cuz I’m so smart.

The pain in your head was unbearable it caused you to awaken, at first your surroundings didn't seem familiar until you focused a little more and it became clear you were in the cave. You groaned as you sat up, the light hurting your head a little more but you pushed through it, you heavily doubted that the boys would have kept any form of painkillers hidden around the cave but then again that wouldn’t do you any good they’d probably just recommend you drink vampire blood and never worry about a hang over ever again.

You headed back to your house and funnily enough your grandma was waiting for you. Your body tensed, there was an atmosphere definitely but you didn’t know why.

“Staying at your friends again?” She asked. It honestly didn’t come across as one but you said yes anyways. “A boy? Or girl perhaps?”

“Doesn’t matter anyways, I’m sorry for not being home more I swear I will try to work on it.” She smiled at you and walked towards you then she embraced you in a hug.

“Im just glad you’re socialising more but please be safe.” With that she left the house. You stood in the empty entrance of your grandmas shop wondering what to do next, you still needed to find that damn spell and you knew there had to be something here what kind of spiritual witchy shop doesn’t have spells or anything about them? You tried closing your eyes and concentrating really hard on the spell you were desperate to look for and the sound of sparks broke you from your concentration. A green glow met your gaze in front of you and then it grew into a line leading up the stairs, you pondered for a moment before following it and as you did so the glow behind you disappeared.

The green line lead you to the door it basically carried on through that door and you were very hesitant to open it. It was your grandmas bedroom. You were never allowed in there, there could be anything in that room but you needed that spell. You opened the door but still didn’t go inside, the room wasn’t all that exciting she had an alter by her window, her bed and the bookshelf. Bingo. You held out your hand and thought of the counter spell again and a book from the shelf started making its way into your hand. You smiled happily it was your grandmothers book of shadows, just then the book opened itself to the page you were looking for. ‘Spooky’ you thought.

Taking your phone out you took a picture of both pages one was the real spell and the other was the counter, you checked the before pages and the after pages to make sure you didn’t miss anything then doing the same you placed the book back on the self the same way you took it out then shut the door like you had never been near it. You sighed upon entering your own room and sank into your bed. You had the spell all this could be over by tonight you can send them home but. There’s always a but, you were starting to enjoy their company you didn’t want it to be over except if you kept them here it would be selfish of you and whoever sent them here wins.

You spent the whole day thinking of this that you hadn’t noticed that the boys came to visit you, they just chilled outside your window out of sight of anyone else but enough so you could notice them. They waiting and you were so deep in thought that they had to break you from your trance by tapping on the window.

“Sugar, you gonna let us in?” Paul flashed you his cutest smile and puppy dog eyes, you couldn’t say no to those, you headed towards the window and opened it.

“Come on in but keep quiet.” You pointed to the door meaning your grandma was home they all understood. Without a doubt at all Paul and Marko started having their little nosy around your room all your trinkets and stuff. They were both so easily entertained, you smiled at their interactions with all your modern day technology. Dwayne was looking at the things on your wall trying to avoid touching anything. You noticed Paul making his way to your drawers and you basically pounced in front of him blocking the drawers.

“Nope, those are strictly for my eyes only, no boys allowed.” You tried to stay as clam as possible, the two blondes exchanged looks and work matching smirks but backed away.

“Did you find anything?” David grabbed everyone’s attention with such one simple question that had one simple answer. You looked at their faces there was a sense of hope in their eyes, they wanted to go back home the boys were itching for it. And with your simple answer you said…

Edward returned to the house not long after Carlisle left, shaking the snow from his hair on the back porch and removing his dirty boots outside the back door. Esme was still in the sitting room but now in the chair Carlisle had occupied for a short while, as content as the other had left her. He could feel the happiness in her thoughts and it warmed him. Hopefully, this would cheer her even further.

“There’s a large pack of wolves not far from here, Esme,” he called out to her as he hung up his coat on the stand in the hallway. Ice melted in the warmth of the house from his trousers and began dripping on the wood floorboards, and he heard her make a mental note to see to it soon. “Come with me, let’s hunt!”

I’m not sure.

“I’ll race you.”

It’s not as fun now you always win.

He smiled at the humour he felt in her thoughts. “Not always!” Edward protested, although she was almost right. Newborn strength waned in her, and now more often than not he ended up outstripping her, but she was right in that the winning was less sweet when the challenge was less great. “You need to feed.”

I know. There was a tinge of sadness to her thoughts now, and guilt. They had been through this before.

Edward sighed as he combed his hair in the mirror in the hallway. It was a struggle to get it to lie flat after such a fast run. “It’s not as simple as that,” he reminded her kindly. “It takes time, not practice, to need to hunt less. Your needs are changing, and try as you might, that is not something you can control.”

It took less than a second for him to appear in the sitting room, and the speed of his arrival made Esme’s hair lift in the little breeze created. She smiled nonchalantly at him.

“Please be kinder to yourself,” he added. He leaned against a bookshelf close to her. “Come hunt with me. You’ve never tasted wolf, and change is good.”

I’m not sure…

“Please?”

And he looked at her with such angelic eyes, dark though they were, and Esme could not refuse. She was quickly learning that she would refuse Edward practically nothing, especially if it brought her his smile. He heard her thoughts and smiled now, so brightly it could eclipse the sun. “You have me wrapped around your little finger, do you know that?” she laughed in defeat.

Edward grinned and held out his pinky, stretching it towards her. Shaking her head slightly, laughing again, Esme linked hers with his and they shook in a silent promise. “As you’re around mine, Esme.”

It took only moments for Esme to change into clothes that were old and plain and that she could afford to lose should any wolves fight back, and there was a part of her that was excited for it. Never one for violence, it had surprised her how much she enjoyed the hunt. One day Edward had caught on to this thought, and together with Carlisle explained that it was just a side effect of her new biology and wasn’t a reflection of a fundamental change in character. After that, Esme had just accepted it.

Trees and ferns and the ungrowth rushed past them as they flew across the forest side by side, and Edward began weaving in a wider path around them. Esme laughed as his joy at the run infected her too, and he instinctively mirrored her when suddenly she changed course and dug her fingers into the thick trunk of a tree. Faster than sound she leaped up it, and then just as suddenly she flung herself to the next tree, and then the next, and the next and the next, until she was soaring from branch to branch and sending snow drifts cascading to the floor in her path. Suddenly they caught a fresh trail of wolf scent and Esme dropped to the floor and sprang forward silently. Edward followed suit. They were still a few miles off, they couldn’t hear the thudding of predator heartbeats yet, but the focus of the hunt set in.

Letting the hot, wet scent pull them forwards was easy. Already, Esme could feel venom fill her mouth, and red crept into the corners of her vision, and her throat was aflame. At her side, she kept Edward in sight, her senses reminding her that on a hunt he was a threat. Whenever he crept too close in her path, she couldn’t bite back snarls and he always heeded them.

A mile away, and Esme could hear the pounding blood in the large pack. Her lips pulled back over her teeth, a hiss escaping her in anticipation. In response to the temptation, her body tensed like a coil and she held it back for as long as she could. Edward and Carlisle had tried to teach her to hunt with control, and she tried hard now to hold back, but she wasn’t strong enough. Like an explosion, the tension within her was released. She was wild, excited and hungry and suddenly so desperate to sink her teeth into flesh that she couldn’t control where her legs took her. Half a mile.

The woods thinned out and she could see where the pack rested in a clearing. Twelve grown wolves, a handful of younger ones, blacks and greys and browns. Esme couldn’t believe her luck. She left Edward to approach from the east, and she circled around, meaning to come at them from the north. Not that they stood a chance against either of the vampires, but it kept Esme away from Edward enough to feel safe when she feasted.

Edward’s cry of “No!” came out a moment before the wind changed. The western wind fanned over her face, and her feet changed course. A scent sweeter and richer than anything else she smelled before called to her like a song, and with it, the world disappeared. It felt heavenly, to be pulled across the earth towards it. Esme went gladly, and within seconds, two heartbeats sounded in her ears. Human. The smell was growing stronger with every step. Not once did it even cross her mind to stop. Why should she stop? This was why she was created. For this very moment.

“You need to be more careful!” a man’s hushed voice scolded, followed by the scrape of metal. “We’ll need to clean that cut before dirt gets into it. That’s how your grandfather lost his hand, is that what you want to happen to you? To become One Hand Henry?”

Esme saw them from a distance, and as fast as she could she came before them. The young boy, no more than nine or ten, was laughing in response to the question, and waving his bloody palm towards him. The man looked exasperated, but he didn’t want to ruin their fun.

“Esme!” came Edward’s ear-splitting roar not far behind. “Don’t!”

She barely heard it. Even when he had caught her in his arms and locked tight around her, she easily freed herself from steel. The boy didn’t feel any pain. Not with how quickly she grabbed him and crushed his throat against her lips. The little body was drained quickly. Never had Esme felt relief like it. She tasted the sacrament on her tongue, savouring the bliss, the way it made her body and soul sing. She was glad to be alive.

What little blood he gave her could not slake her need, and she caught up with the man shortly after. His distraught face flashed across her eyes, his sobs and cries for his boy echoing in her ears, but he didn’t have to suffer for long. One gentle squeeze of her fist and his skull cracked, her fingers sinking into the softness underneath, and life was gone from him quicker than he could have ever felt. His blood was good, but it was nothing on the divinity of his son. Still, it filled her and satisfied her. Finally she had slaked the thirst.

When the world began coming back to her, Esme couldn’t have guessed how long she had been standing frozen. It returned slowly, the red and white haze that had blanketed her in bliss fading first at the corners, and then making their way inwards. At first, she was aware of Edward standing guard over her in a tree a short distance away. Then the sweet aroma of blood finer than any animal she had smelled washed over her. Turning her head this way and that to find the source, she realised it was on her. She licked her lips and tasted it drying there. One flex of her fingers and she knew it caked her arms and body.

“Where are the wolves?” When she drew in breath, for the first time in this life, her throat did not burn. She was soothed. She felt strong. But it was wrong.

“Gone.” He sounded wary above her.

“Is this what wolf blood tastes like?”

“No.”

“Oh.”

“Esme?”

She broke her frozen stance and looked up at him, eyes wide. Don’t say. Please don’t say it.

His own gaze was agonised. “I’m sorry.”

The taste of the boy was still in her mouth. His father’s bone clung to her hair. A violent scream tore itself from her, and the sound of ripping metal echoed when she dragged her nails down her face. Tearless sobs filled the air, and Edward was frightened.

I want to die.

“Esme-”

and YESS THE CH13 SPOILER I've been staring it way too much, like, this is exactly the sort of duality thing I wanna see between the image of the super nice guy students whom sooha meets and these debauched dishevelled bloodsucking creatures on the ground like even heli & jakah who normally look so neat and put-together have got their uniforms messed up, it really shows how far gone and out of control they become when they start drinking blood

plus the fact that u can still see how shocked they all are when sooha walks in on them even though their eyes are red?? esp jakah's he looks so cute even with all the blood on his face. I love how shion's using a teacup, the classy little guy, and then you have solon who looks kind of dazed & drunk (lol) and passed out at the back and his one vampire eye is gleaming red

the expressions are priceless, the art is just 👌👌👌

Evie called her speakeasy the starlight street and it was through a secret word and a gifting of red roses that you could make your way into the lounge. She knew that her father kept men in the basement, rats who earned a slit throat and an unmarked burial. She felt it was justice for their betrayal. In her lounge, she had girls who had been a close inner circle of hers that danced on stage. It was them that approached her with desperation in their eyes and already failing bank accounts, she made sure no one laid a hand on the girls unless they wanted to sleep with the fishes that night. Evie ran the speakeasy successfully for five years until another gang began to approach on their territory, it happened overnight that the new gang extended violence against her own. A dancer came to her with bruised ribs and a broken wrist, another spotted a black eye and a split lip and she knew that it was time for them to be crushed underneath her iron fist.

Evie was sociable and gathered favor with many among the city, she sought out Sebiorn knowing that he carried a certain set of deadly fangs. It was over a vintage bottle of red wine and moonlight that she proposed her idea to him, that she would become a creature of the night and would make sure to keep the street and its people safe from the true villains. He fed her his blood, snapped her neck and buried her. When she awoke, it was to a new type of hunger and delight danced across her face. She made her way to the opposing gangs headquarters and left a bloodbath behind in her wake. Officially silencing the only people in town who dared to act against the Ouroboros. She lived happily as a vampire, feasting on those who dared to mare or mark anyone that sold their body out of choice. Just because the woman needed to survive didn’t mean that they deserved the torture and abuse that others bestowed on them and those men were Evie’s favorite meal.

She didn’t know much of the veil but she learned when she faded away into nothing, she was never one to miss out on a fight and gave her keys to an inner circle member of the Ouroboros and packed her bags for Corinth. Opening up a new burlesque club called Ambrosia and ready to drink the blood of anyone who might stand against her.

TBH I AGREE WITH YOU.... in rob renzetti’s student film (which i guess was the earliest incarnation of mina and the count) the count actually brings mina along when he goes to drain ppl so i feel like the “feasting on young maidens” thing is rlly just to play up his likeness to dracula and to generate Wacky Misunderstandings And Shenanigans

AND I MEAN in the pilot igor just... hands him a glass of blood so like.... wherever he gets that is probably just fine. i think thats such a good idea tho since the original minisodes made such a point about how the count enjoyed goofing off with mina and getting away from the usual gloominess of being a vampire was what made him feel alive again, and also to the point where he straight up poisoned himself bc he knew it would make her happy. whos to say the thrill of Sneaking Around To Drink Blood isnt replaced with the thrill of playing hide and seek and trying other new things like learning to bake and discovering comics.... im getting so excited about this now i fucking wish they could bring back mina and the count SO so badly

Lost in a Hedge!

We’re almost done the first week of our Changeling: The Lost 2nd Edition Kickstarter, and it’s going great! Not only are we racing past Stretch Goals like we’re being chased by a Huntsman, but the community response has been terrific. Jumpin’ James and I are going to sit down this week and talk about a bunch of things you’ve been asking about, but I do want to touch on a few points right away.

First, we had some concern when we went live with the KS, because for this KS we are releasing a few chapters of the completed text each week via Backer Only Updates. Our plan is that all of the text will be released by the start of the last week of the Kickstarter, and that you can then decide if the writing is what you are looking for.

Seriously, our intention is that you will be able to decide and keep, update, or drop your pledge as you see fit and however you decide, that’s totally cool.

So because you can cancel your pledge at any time until the KS funds, there’s really no “paywall” at all.

As for why we chose to set it up this way, well, first of all, we wanted folks to be able to read the complete text. But we have noticed that when we do a “here’s a link to the complete text right here in the KS page, tell us what you think”, that the conversation gets pretty noisy. But only for the front end of the campaign.

We’d like to have an ongoing conversation about the text, and for all of you to have something new and interesting to talk about, each week.

Besides that, we really do hold to something I’ve said so many times that it seems like our mantra for Kickstarter: Every Kickstarter Is Different. So we are very interested in continuing to fine-tune how we do our KSs. For efficiency and effectiveness, yes, that’s better for our business and for backers. And also for our sense of being creative, of treating our projects as individual things that can be made more fun to be involved with and evoke more of the feel of the setting and gameplay (even our Kickstarters).

And now with Jumpin’ James starting to apply some ideas he’s been thinking about to them, we’re really lucky to get a fresh brain on our KSs. For example, our “classic PDF” bundle that is often really popular as a pledge or an Add-on has been something that I and Mighty Matt McElroy have created for most of our KSs as a static, “here you go!” sort of offering. But James has changed that with this KS, and now we have Stretch Goals that add additional PDFs to the bundle so that our backers get more value as the KS continues to grow.

Finally, to clarify one of our Stretch Goal rewards, the additional Kiths that can be unlocked are going to be added to the previously announced Kith and Kin supplement. We were and are unclear in the way that was described, even allowing the Book of Kiths shorthand we were using to show through publicly. That caused confusion, and was our bad. (And now we’re kind of stuck with that title as part of what we’re doing, because a bunch of backers are used to it.)

While all that was happening with the Changeling: The Lost 2e KS, we had a crew at PAX Unplugged in my hometown of Philadelphia, PA, that included myself and Mega Meghan Fitzgerald, one of the CtL2 devs. (Why is she Mega? Because she runs amazing demo games at cons one after the other and people were so excited and loving the adventure so much that they were pledging to the Kickstarter on their phones at the table!) So, some of the people who could clarify things with the KS were not readily available.

Neall Raemonn Price and our new friend Nick from The Wrecking Crew were also running exciting games of Exalted, Scion, Pugmire, etc. for folks pretty much from 10am til midnight. The three of them were made of win.

The PAX Unplugged con itself was really good, I think, for Onyx Path, if for no other reason than allowing all of us to talk with gamers who did not know us or what we do.

Heck, for the first time in four years I found myself explaining what a tabletop RPG was and how you play them.

So, for everybody who talks about how unnecessary those “What is Roleplaying” intro sections are in RPG books: nope.

This exposure to a wider audience was one of the objectives we had in mind for attending this particular convention, so that is a win. We also talked to so many attendees who did know us, or who backed one of our KSs, or who had amazing stories about how old WW and now Onyx Path had influenced their lives. I have heard a fair number of those stories about the WW games over the years, and it’s gratifying that Onyx has been around long enough now to have also made a difference for some folks.

We saw lots of old friends in the business, because just about every tabletop RPG publishers was attending in some capacity or another. White Wolf was right next to us (a coincidence, I swear) and so we had some great synergy with them. Plus anytime I can start the day with Jason Carl, Karim Muammar, and Shane von Shane in their black-clad undead beauty next to us, it just makes things a little bit better.

They were demoing parts of Vampire: The Masquerade 5th Edition both there at the booth and in their demo area, and the very excited players seemed to be almost in a frenzy of antici…

…pation!

While all these great conversations were going on, and boy did I just talk non-stop, we were also selling Changeling 20th PoDs, Chronicles of Darkness core books, Scarred Lands books, a smattering of our extra Deluxe W20s, W20 Changing Breeds, Exalted 3rds, and one Mage 20.

And Pugmire.

Always the Pugmire. It has proven to be the best game book to set up near the aisle so everybody can see the cover and all the dogs fighting the giant ants, and it just brings folks over. (We also sold out of the Monarchies of Mau Early Access PoDs we brought with us, so never fear, cat-lovers!) For a convention where we wanted to talk with new folks, it really did the trick.

It didn’t hurt that our dynamic duo of retail sales Dixie Cochran and Lisa Thomas were phenomenally good at engaging the people that came over to ask what Pugmire is all about and stayed to check out all our other offerings and pick up a brochure at least!

A Land Where Legends Walk

Drawing enthusiastically on Greek mythology, the revised and re-imagined Scarred Lands nonetheless retains its place as a modern fantasy RPG setting. minor curse of strahd spoilers to follow but not rly lol

last night we did the abbey of st. markovia but it was mostly just a loooot of good planning because they couldn’t decide whether to keep on the abbot’s good side or try and take the holy symbol he had behind the sun and ditch, SO eventually they decided to go to vallaki and look for this wedding dress to make him happy!! lmao im so excited to see what happens next as last they left vallaki, the church was burning and vampire spawn were swarming the church following st. andral’s feast… also fun stuff that happened during this session involved glim’s hallucinations following a traumatic battle royale strahd zombie dream where they had to kill their friends, harmony getting a mysterious gift from her patron (which she hasn’t identified yet so she doesn’t know what it IS), and me coming up with everyone’s favorite npc so far on the spot, a small good boy who rented them his oxen for 2 gold and believes everything they tell him
