Because what annoys me as always (esp the past 2 years. Idk if it's gotten worse or if I've just grown more irritable to it) isn't that people are shipping a thing

It's that people will talk about nothing BUT the shipping. The Ship Is The Focus and not any other dynamics around it or any narratives around it

I think this is a flaw, we like flaws in characters, we Like characters not being flat cardboard cutouts

When there's SO MUCH AROUND IT

Like how Sans is the new guy in town. He's a friend Toriel can, y'know, actually befriend as a New Person, someone that hasn't seen the past family life she had with Asgore and whatever happened there (anyone else in town would know and would also have been a mutual friend to both of them, like the Holidays)

He's like a new start, someone she can cut loose around without it being A Scandal, y'know? It's just that she cut loose a bit too hard this time, but then again she hasn't actually gotten to do even a bit of it in a While imo.

There's whatever happened before the divorce, Asgore being a Fukken Weirdo to her-- sending unwanted gifts, showing up wherever she is, just making her uncomfortable overall. Just p much not moving on while she Is trying to move on.

And then the discomfort of the scene to me is imagining walking home with a friend that wants to sleep over, and coming in on your mom being drunk off her ass. Idc if she's a 'happy drunk' it's still uncomfortable. The loudness, the falling over herself, all in front of Susie and Kris, who both get uncomfortable. Susie gets uncomfortable enough to leave even tho she'd rather be at Kris' place. Making me wonder if she's gad to deal with drunk parents or caretakers or something. Or if it's just a general discomfort of seeing someone act like that, or Toriel getting her name wrong (Susie Was surprised Toriel had remembered her name before, and seemed to hold that close to her heart)

Kris going to bed and Toriel being too drunk to let them sleep with all the noise.

Like there's all this stuff to focus on, the (non romantic) dynamics, the narratives, the little theories and what ifs of small character actions in that scene, the Why this is happening. The sprites are goofy but there's an underlying sadness to what's happening-the discomfort of the kids, the fact that Sans is the first friend Toriel can have that has no ties to her ex and has even SEEN that ex be a weirdo, that there's been so much going on she hasn't been able to relax much so when she finally CAN she goes overboard...

All that. But no lets focus on OMG THE SHIP THE SHIP YOU GUYS THE SHIP SO CUTE YAAAAY
