California Internet Bills Status 8/9/2024

As of right now, here's the status of the three primary internet bills of note.

AB 3080, age verification for nsfw websites. Currently has been improved its terms so that metadata and other methods to better filtering as parental controls is allowed as an option rather than always age verification via ID and credit card transactions. However, it's best to still nip this one in the bud if possible. So I'd still recommend messaging your reps about it.

This bill went through second reading, but has been re-referred to the Senate Appropriations Committee. The hearing is scheduled for August 12th. You can find your members in the link below. So best to call them before that date if they're a part of the committee.

AB 1949, surrounding collecting personal data of those less than 18 years of age with risks of age verification due to broad language, has been sent to the Senate Suspense File and is awaiting the vote. There's no set date on the Senate website for it, but the Assembly Suspense date is listed as August 15th, so best assumption for now is that it will be on the same day. So call your Senate reps for these as well if they're a part of the Appropriations Committee (see the link above).

I think Quinn has a few basic survival skills, but it's mostly dependent on having access to proper equipment. If he's on his own in the woods with nothing at all he will 100% get eaten by a creature. In the military, he gets by in remote destinations, so I suppose that's a form of survival. In an apocalypse--he'll be killing himself tbh 🕊️ #respect

Vincent definitely has more survival instinct. He lived off the grid for a while, so there are tricks and skills he's picked up. Plus he's a vampire so he doesn't need human amenities. I could see him faring well in an apocalypse--he'd be a leader type who attempts to provide order and control, only to be cast aside or attacked by a rival community....being immortal would have its benefits as well, but I think he'd be rather lonely 😔

Quinno has some unhealthy coping mechanisms For Sure! He tends to shove all of his trauma into a corner in his mind, refusing to touch or acknowledge it. Most days, he pretends none of it happened, or if he does think about it, he claims it doesn't matter and that it means nothing 🙃 There's some mild substance abuse when his walls fall a bit--alcohol, smoking. Plus, he has a predilection for self harm, though he'd never acknowledge it as that. I'd say we need to get this boy in therapy stat, but I know he'd come up with an excuse to get himself out of it, or just pretend that he's well adjusted enough :'D

Vincent has both healthy and unhealthy coping methods. He does seek out support if he's feeling on the verge of a mental collapse--usually with Stuart there to talk him through things. But he also tends to isolate under severe stress, and he'll lash out at others if they accuse him of faltering mentally. With Quinn though, he's far more likely to try to seek comfort from him. Similarly, he'll bottle up most of his own issues and assume Quinn's are much more extreme (which..fair), but that can lead to him neglecting himself ;_;

Quinn--I think it depends on the scenario, but he's much more prone to stand back and let others control a stressful situation, all while he internally has a meltdown. So I suppose it's freeze in that sense. He does fight when he needs to, usually when instinct kicks in and he loses himself to adrenaline.

Vincent--more inclined to fight. Especially if he or his loved ones are threatened. His vampire wrath takes over and he can't stop until the threat is eliminated. If the stress is less obvious and intense, he might try to reason with it, but he's got a bit of an anger issue that come to the surface more often than he'd like

Vincent has Stuart's number memorized, but that's only because he forced him to lol. He's not really a phone guy (grandpa status) so he doesn't prefer using it to communicate.
