Ahnzo

Night time in the Mediterranean, in his home town of Acireale. Sitting on the rocky shores near his childhood home, knees pulled to his chest. He looks up at the moon, clear skies and not a cloud in site. The flashing of the stars and distant lights calm him as a light breeze rustles his hair. And he hears ambient sounds of waves and light city noise.

Alessa

Blizzard, extremely snowy weather in Western British Columbia where Bailey is from. They visit their cabin in the mountains every winter. She absolutely is obsessed with Winter and Winter activities. Garrus hates it. He hates all of it. He complains a lot. But the gang (Garrus, Farin, Farin’s Boyfriend….. all Turians LOL; and Alessa and Bailey) all enjoy spending time off with each other. And Winters they usually spend on Earth with Bailey’s kids.

Nathaniel Owen

Rainy Nights especially. He loves watching city lights and hearing city noise through the sound of thunder and rain storms.

Arthur

Summer nights in Latin America. He and Steve spend a few weeks out of the year in Steve’s home town. They love staying up at night and just lying on a blanket in a park and staring up at the stars trying to get a feel for how things used to be before space travel.

When was their first kiss?

Ahnzo

His first kiss was actually with Steve on the Citadel. Growing up, he knew he was gay and he was proud of who he was. He was always so sure of himself and that was where his pride came from. He’s not asexual or aromantic, he does experience attraction a lot actually. He just always chose not to enter into a relationship, especially when he was running with the Reds in Rome.

So when Steve invites him for drinks and kisses him, he felt right. He felt good, he cared a lot for Steve.

Alessa

Her first REAL kiss was with Kaidan during one of their first deployments before she was made a Commander. She, Ashley, and Kaidan and a few other human crew were on shore leave and had been playing some heavy drinking games in Alessa’s penthouse on the Citadel.

This is long before her dishonorable discharge by the way.

As they were “attempting” to clean up, as much as they could being shit faced, Alessa fell face first onto the couch and claimed that the apartment was clean (it was not) and Kaidan tried to pick her up but he fell on top of her. Commence awkward drunk laughing and a few drunk kisses.

Nathaniel Owen

His first time on the Citadel as a young adult (around 20), he was perusing some of the stores on the Presidium for some new tech when he met a lovely Asari. They struck up a conversation/debate over the best omni tool brands and ended up buying some new upgrades.

Afterwards, Nate asked them out for drinks and they really hit it off. They walked back to his hotel room and kissed at the door before the Asari left to go home. They went on a few dates for awhile, but when he was recruited into the Alliance, they drifted apart until a mutual breakup after he returned from basic.

Arthur

His best friend as a teenager ;D You know…. the “omg I’m gay for my best friend” trope. That’s how Arthur realized he liked guys. The best kind of gay trope for young adults :D Also think Craig and Dadsona from DD///a//dds

He and his best friend were on the Citadel after school one night and spending time at his friend’s apartment. They ended up sleeping on the floor in front of the TV screen that was playing reruns of their favorite show.

They accidentally end up cuddling and then Arthur gets hit with feels all of a sudden, but his friend smiles and they share a small kiss <3

Alessa's skin glistens under the dimmed lights of her bedroom. Warm tones from the ceiling refract off the drops of sweat, sparkling like the stars that painted the sky. It was these small moments where her beauty shined as if she was made of diamonds. A blanket of red persists on her gaunt cheeks; a sign of passion persisting through her body. Alessa's make-up had melted off hours ago, no match for the beads of sweat on her forehead. Her head tilts forward, submitting to the growing fatigue. Nothing has ever compared to this; the afterglow.

When you're angry, all your defenses go up. The unfortunate person, or thing, that managed to piss you off is suddenly talking to a wall. On the inside, you're screaming and crying and cussing them out, but somehow you can't express it. You're blank. Emotionless. To anyone's knowledge, you could be zoning out of a lecture. Because of this, it's hard to express how you're feeling when the person asks for your thoughts. You've choked your feelings down, and they won't come back up.

Moira + Ahnzo Vincente Shepard

Green

Green characters are often hotheaded and brash, unafraid to speak their mind. They make for excellent leaders and teachers, and tend to be most devoted to a specific field, which they do well in. They have a lot of confidence in themselves, and although they can’t always see themselves positively, they are good about respecting themselves. They have a lot of common sense but are equally likely to strategically plan something out as to rush in on an impulse. They often have to work hard to get others to respect them, and sometimes receive less of it when people find out who they are. Still, they are not afraid to make others uncomfortable by being themselves, and are unlikely to waver when someone wants them to change against their will. They can be brash and loud, but also very quiet and secretive. Their humor can be a bit rude, and they don’t always display friendship and affection to the people they care about in the most conventional ways. However, they’re quite easygoing, witty, and fun-loving people. They don’t like when people are flighty and prefer to work with people who don’t quit and stand their ground. They stand out from others, both because of the way they approach the world, and because of how skilled they tend to be at what they do. Some people may not suspect that they are harmonious because of their blunt nature, but they are surprisingly good and reasonable diplomats, and can employ a lot of meaningful tact when the situation calls for it. They may feel a sense of distance or abandonment from their parental figures, as they often became emotionally or physically absent sometime in their life. Orange

Orange characters are charismatic and talented. They push themselves to be the best at everything they put their mind to, and get upset when they can’t meet their own standards. They tend to be prodigies, seeming almost superhuman in their genius or abilities, but they often base their self-worth off of how well they can perform, making them feel isolated from the others around them. While most people see orange characters as cocky and self-absorbed, they are actually quite insecure in themselves. They want attention and validation from others, but because of their faux confidence and the constant (and often somewhat empty) praise from the people around them, the people that are truly closest to them often withhold it from them. This often leads them to push themselves beyond their limits to succeed and/or act out in unhealthy and self-destructive ways, in an effort to get some kind of recognition. These characters seek to impress, and have a hard time telling praise from love. They have a constant need to be the hero, in whatever context that means for them. These characters usually have a sense of humor and wit that can tend to flatter themselves (although much of what they say is rooted in truth), but it’s contrasting to some of their more self-deprecating natures. They can be serious loners, since they isolate themselves from others in an attempt to protect themselves. Although they would never admit it, they crave acceptance and belonging. Others generally don’t see this, because orange characters are loathe to admit weakness and build up defenses by making it clear that they don’t care what others think, although they do. In childhood, it is likely that their parental figures were either absent or abusive, often holding them up to high standards while not providing enough positive reinforcement. Other characters need to treat orange characters not as an annoyance, or give up on them quickly, but to make it clear that they are willing to love and support them regardless of how useful they can be, and to voice compliments where they are due.

Red

Red characters tend to be both quiet and observant as well as loud and dramatic. They are often brash and impulsive, and tend to act on instinct rather than planning ahead. They are quite self-sacrificing, often veering into self-destructive, and they push themselves to their limits trying to succeed. They tend to be stubborn, and it might take a lot to change their mind. They have a hard time expressing their feelings, and may come off as either emotionless, self-absorbed, or perpetually angry. They don’t have a ton of friends, and when they do, it’s often by circumstance rather than choice (although they grow to fiercely love their friends). They are not usually innately good at fitting into social situations, and can be awkward and out of place in them. They can come off as unhumorous because of how sincere and honest they tend to be, but tend to just have a dryer, sarcastic sense of humor. They do often think of others first, but their motivations for it might not be entirely selfless. They usually have a hard time conceivably lying, and are quite earnest without meaning to be.They put their full effort into what they do, and push themselves to improve at all costs. They get easily defensive, and feel like they have to prove themselves to earn anyone’s respect. They have a strong sense of internal morality and high standards for themselves. They also hold others to their internal high standards, which can cause a lot of conflict if not worked out. They tend to have bad relationships with their parental figures, who were usually either absent or abusive, and contributed to their toxic view of themselves. At their core, red characters want to be loved and accepted, but have often been denied it, leading them to build up lots of defenses. Others need to be patient with them and give them a safe space to be themselves as they open up and begin to flourish.

Ahnzo V. Ryder

Light Blue

Light Blue characters are laidback and creative, often with a good sense of humor that ranges from sarcastic to straight up puns. They are good at community building because of their chill and funny nature, and they are expert planners. They normally aren’t very uptight, but can become so when they feel there is something that needs to be done, or feels that their authority is being undermined. They have a very strong sense of responsibility, mainly for people in their care, often an older sibling figure to many of those close to them. They can get paranoid and overbearing when they are worried about those that they are caring for. They can also act childish and have fun but they like having people around who can see their maturity and treat them accordingly. They use a lot of humor to get around dealing with their internal problems, and tend to complain about surface level issues in order to ignore their more vulnerable feelings. Because of their tendency to make jokes and try to get people to laugh, they aren’t often recognized for their intelligence. Sometimes they lack common sense and it plays out in humorous ways, but when it really counts they are quite perceptive and intelligent, brilliant inventors and strategists. Their decisions may seem impulsive, but are usually quite thought out and purposeful. They aren’t the type of person who really wants to be the sole lead, but they want to have a say in the decision making, and they need their input to be taken seriously. They often feel inferior to others and can become defensive when their ideas or sense is questioned because of it. They don’t generally get things handed to them, but have to work for what they want. This can make them feel out of place in a space with others who people praise as “exceptional”, and being the “ordinary” one is a bit of a sore spot. They can tend to act cocky and confident to disguise their insecurities, again often using humor to help them along. Light blue characters need people who ask for their opinion often, give them proper recognition for their positive traits, and don’t leave them out of important decisions, but also don’t let them take on too much. They need people who will see past their witty barrier and allow them to try and figure out and come to terms with their feelings.

I am a fan since: I started Dragon Age on NYE 2014, and kind of followed Mass Effect gamers a little before that. They kept recommending it to me but I felt weird about an RPG in space. Eventually I got around to playing the trilogy for the first time in January of 2016.

Favorite game of the series?: Don’t make me chooooooossseeeee...... Mass Effect 3.

There’s a certain emotional rawness that really grips at me, and that really has me relate to the core plot line of the game. I love 2 a lot, but I think overall I love 3 a lot more.

MShep or FShep?: I play both equally. My canon Shepard is MShep, and my AU Shepard is (f)Shep.

Earthborn, Colonist, or Spacer: Earthborn is my favorite because it kinda fits to how I felt growing up. Sure I had “parents�� but they weren’t great people. So as I grew up and moved out, I felt on my own a lot because of how they act towards me and about me.

Spacer is a close second. Talking about Shepard’s mom in 3 during the Citadel DLC and asking Hackett about her tugs the heartstrings...

Biotics or Tech: Ok I am torn here. My canon Shepards are always Infiltrators. But even so, I rarely use tech abilities. Mostly in 2/3, but not a lot. I do love Vanguard a lot, but not getting Sniper Rifle training until the collector ship in 2, always bugs me... just give me a sniper rifle and biotics (at the beginning) you cowards!! lmfao

I do prefer Biotics in Andromeda a lot more though.

Paragon or Renegade: Renegade for life bitches!! Except when talking to Cortez and/or the romance option.

Do you have an AU?: Yes! I never ended up writing the long fic for it, but it’s called Powerless. It follows my (extreme) canon divergent AU Shepard, Alessa; and her descent through addiction and PTSD, her relationship with Bailey, her dishonorable discharge, and forgiving the crew member who’s report eventually lead to her discharge. Also her friendship with Garrus and meeting two Turian OCs I have too!!

Favorite Class?: Infiltrator first as my canon, then Vanguard for any other non canon Shepard.

Favorite Companion: CORTEZ. “But Viktor, he’s not a comp-.” CORTEZ IS MY FAVORITE COMPANION. HE IS MY PILOT AND MY BOYFRIEND.

Least Favorite Companion: In terms of personality? Liara. I admire her at times sure and she has some good in her, but I think BioWare did her kinda dirty so as a result I don’t like how she was written.

In terms of squad selection? Anyone who doesn’t have biotics or tech specialties. I use biotics and tech a lot more than just weapons so I usually just go full on into tech and biotic specialist while I handle weapons.

Favorite DLC: Leviathan, it gave a REALLY good look into the background of the Reapers.

Control, Synthesis or Destroy: Destroy. All day every day. The only non Destroy endings I got were my first ever run of the Trilogy and I selected Refuse. And my non canon Shepards choose Control. I also have a really heartbreaking gif set of my Kathryn J Shepard x Garrus during a Control ending here

Who is the most affectionate?

Shepard + Ryder: Ryder is definitely the more affectionate one, not that Shepard isn’t. Ryder just loves all the cuddling and kissing and just spending time together. Shepard also can’t cook to save his life, so Ryder decides to cook for them. But he can’t either, so they end up just going out.

Shepard + Cortez: Cortez is more affectionate, however Shepard loves doting on his husband. Cortez cooks as Shepard just sits at the kitchen counter with hearts for eyes, marveling in Cortez’s beauty.

Shepard + Bailey: They’re both equally affectionate. I think one of my favorite ideas for them is Bailey is coming home after a few days on an undercover op, so he brings home a bunch of real flowers. All originating from the Council planets. He walks in the door and there’s Alessa making dinner in lingerie and he’s just wondering what he did to deserve such a wonderful wife.

Nathaniel Owen + Maxson: Nate is defnitely the most affectionate. Arthur is a fairly private and reserved person. So Nate takes it upon himself to always make sure Arthur is happy and loved.

Who would sing to their child back to sleep?

Shepard + Ryder: They don’t have children, and neither really enjoy interacting with kids. Shepard is too cynical and kids normally poke fun at Ryder’s hair and makeup until he gets upset.

Shepard + Cortez: They don’t have children either, however Cortez would definitely be the one to sing to them.

Shepard + Bailey: Alessa and Bailey don’t have kids of their own, however they regularly visit with Bailey’s daughter. Alessa and her are quite close, and although Alessa is old enough to be her mom, they act more like good friends.

Nathaniel Owen + Maxson: If they adopted a child (they don’t), Nate would sing to them. He has a very good voice, however he usually opts to not sing as he gets embarassed by such things fairly easily.

Nicknames? If so, how did they originate?

Shepard + Ryder: My main Shepard and main Ryder have the same name. Therefore in this mini AU I have, Shepard goes by his first name, Ahnzo. Ryder then goes by a pet form of his middle name; Vinny.

Shepard + Bailey: Alessa calls him Owen for short but sometimes uses his hyphenated Armando-Owen. When working she’ll address him as Bailey. He in turn calls her Ali, she doesn’t necessarily hate it, but she prefers her full name Alessa.

Shepard + Cortez: Neither have nicknames for eachother, however Ahnzo sometimes says Esteban instead of Steve. Cortez once addressed him as Vinny and he got both angry and depressed. Vinny is short for Vincente which is his father’s name, and Ahnzo never got to meet his parents.

Nathaniel Owen + Maxson: My main sole goes by Nate. His full name is Nathaniel Owen. Arthur addresses him as Sentinel most of the time, however if they are alone together, he uses Nate. In turn, Nate addresses him as Elder out of respect, or else calls him Arthur.

Who worries the most?

Shepard + Ryder: Ryder definitely worries the most. Even after the Reaper war, Ryder always worried when Shepard wasn’t around.

Shepard + Bailey: They both worry equally. She worries about everything due to extreme anxiety and paranoia, however Bailey worries whenever she is in a bad place emotionally as she is a recovering addict.

Shepard + Cortez: Shepard definitely worries the most. Cortez always seems like a strong guy, who does what he can for others but rarely takes time for himself. So Shepard always worries if he’s bottling stuff up or just hiding the stuff that’s hurting him.

Nathaniel Owen + Maxson: Arthur definitely worries the most. Whenever Nate isn’t around or not to be seen, the nagging feeling he keeps having is that Nate is in the middle of a schizophrenic episode or a ptsd flashback and ran off somewhere, to a place he could get into trouble.

3. What is the best fandom you’ve ever been involved in?

Oh boy… Okay I don’t want to play favorites because that’s just not fair. So I’ll pick a favorite based on a few things.

Best Fandom for its Support: Mass Effect for sure. I have received so much support from friends and acquaintances in the ME fandom. We have discussions, debates, opinions, but it all helps us grow. I hated Ashley for a really long time, and although she isn’t my favorite I have been able to open my mind and get to know her. And I like her a lot now. She’s in my main squad for Arthur in ME 1 right now and I love her banter. Plus she is my tank in a way, and doesn’t let me die as much as when I have Kaidan… Thanks Kaidan.

It has also supported me through my art slumps, writing blocks, and mental blocks of any kind. It has been there to help me through a lot and I love everyone for it.

Best Fandom for its (good) craziness: Probably Skyrim? When I first joined social media in 2013 on Instagram, Skyrim was still a huge deal. It was EVERYWHERE on my Instagram feed. I gained followers and long term friends through Skyrim. We made jokes, held contests, shared mods (have you seen the Skryim mods??), we have crazy ideas, funny stories when we experience the infamous Bethesda bugs. If it wasn’t for Skyrim and its community, I wouldn’t even be into RPGs at all.

14. Go on, who are your BroTPs?

Steve + Vega, I can’t ship them romantically or sexually. I just can’t, to me they have that unbreakable friendship and I just can’t ruin that with sex or a romance. Now I don’t mind when people ship them in a relationship, I just can’t do that myself.

Hawke + Carver, Mostly because they are brothers (or brother/sister). I love Carver okay? He needs more love. My Hawkes may clash with him a lot because of the whole mage/templar dynamic they have going on. But all Hawke does is love Carver no matter what, even when he becomes a Templar.

15. Is there an obscure ship which you love?

Does obscure equal rare? I don’t necessarily have any I love, mostly because I’m vain and need a ship to include my OC.

Nathaniel Owen Shepard: October 23rd

Ahnzo was born to loving parents, but was later orphaned by the time he was 10 months old. When he was found, he went to an Alliance Orphanage who gave him a name based on the dog tags he was found with, and gave him a birth date for record keeping purposes.

But when he ran away from the Orphanage at the age of 8, he stripped his identity and therefore his birthdate that was assigned to him. And gave himself a new birthdate.

After escaping from the gangs he helped run (he fucked up a job and lots of people died), he once again stripped his identity.

He never assigned himself a new date. So when people ask for his birthday he just shrugs and walks away. The crew of the Normandy refuses to let up and tries to find it out so they can throw him a birthday party. He finds out and gets really really pissed. He refuses to tell anyone, and officially has no birthday as he had it redacted from Alliance records after his retirement post war, and as part of his terms when he was recruited, he refused to give a date of birth.

The only date that matters to him is his and Steve's anniversary ❤️
