this is what i've been up to these days // trailer for Clementine Was Right? also a way to keep track of? everything // first draft came out in 2021 // second draft 2025 // final draft 3056 where were you when you first learned about trust? i remember being on a greyhound bus in mendocino, and outside, one smoker made another hold their cigarette, so they could imitate a surfer. or maybe like the wave itself, i guess. in the morning, the bus driver woke everyone up, asking who knew spanish, and i helped a dude in a Kool Aid man shirt make sure he was going sur instead of norte. and when someone says they were lying the whole time, you’re relieved because now you don't have to believe in anyone. and you wait your whole life for the hand that makes your shoulder disappear. in a brick hotel, you find the sunglasses you lost in the bathroom of a roller rink that got condemned. and you stand there on a railroad bridge over a river, while someone draws your heart with a crayon, and they tell you to stop turning around, don’t be scared, no one even makes the kind of train that knows you’re here.

Led by singer-songwriter Jeff Tweedy, the band has evolved from its alternative country roots into one of the most influential and eclectic indie rock groups of its time.

Is this thing on? Been a lonnnnnng while, but I want to test the waters to see if there's an audience for country music on Tumblr 2023.

I've been making a weekly playlist in lieu of a radio show for a couple months now. Figure that'd be a good place to start.

If you like country music that's outside the mainstream, check out this playlist. It's full of new and recent releases. I kick it off with a classic country song and send it off with Willie Nelson. In between you'll find music from artists making country music in their own way with their own style. While the music changes every week, the playlist stays in the same spot. Plus, there's an archive where I retire the old playlists.

American Cosmic Revival Vol 1| Back At Home (Tribute to the International Submarine Band)

Back At Home is a tribute album to the cornerstone album of country-rock, Safe At Home, first released in 1968, which was Gram Parsons’ first album statement with The International Submarine Band. Christian Parker and Patrick Cleary have teamed up with original ISB session piano player Earl Poole Ball and original steel guitarist JayDee Maness to produce fresh and updated takes of 10 classic country songs. It follows Christian’s “Sweethearts” LP (2023) tribute and Patrick Cleary’s “Cleary Country” EP (2020). The songs are exuberant and sonically rich, demonstrating the continued vitality of classic country in today’s burgeoning Country/Americana market.

After an extended hiatus, the weekly playlist is back. If you’re new here, I find new and recent indie country releases on Fridays, throw them in a playlist, listen to it over the weekend, edit accordingly and publish it for you to hear, share and enjoy.

It always starts off with something classic, as a nod to where we’ve been and ends with a track by Willie Nelson because I could probably make these for week in, week out for 20 years and never run out of songs. 

While January is typically a slow month, it’s off to a pretty good start. About 2/3 was released in the last 30 days, which is all up front, and the last 1/3 is from Oct/Nov, when I last published a list. I’ve got couple irons in the fire right now regarding getting back on the air, but nothing completely baked yet. In the meantime, give this a listen and let me know what you like.
