OKAY SO.
End of 3x14.
Sun Wukong: "I know I can never make it up to you. Honestly, I never thought I'd live as long as I have let alone be someone's mentor—turns out I'm not very good at it. I guess what I'm trying to say is...I'm sorry MK, for all of it."
One: the fact that Wukong is so many times immortal, and was so afraid of mortality he kept reaching and reaching for more sources of immortality, but he still didn't think he would live this long drives me insane. He's so paranoid of death yet he's also afraid of life. Get my mans some help.
Two: I always find this line one of the most damning pieces of evidence that he knew about MK's identity the whole time. Cause it's like...this is his apology, where he's explaining himself and his downfalls, and he makes it a point to explain to MK that he never planned to have a successor. Which, this directly contradicts everything he says to MK in AHIB, and he's practically admitting that he never wanted to be a mentor. This wasn't something he was ready for. And truthfully, I think that adds to MK's s4 questions/confusion and purposeful denial about what he is. Deep down MK already knows that Wukong couldn't have chosen anyone else to be a successor, and he knows Wukong was never looking for one. And I think it all starts right here, with Wukong implying it

Feel free to egnor if it's too personal.
But how did u learn to be so good a writing? Was it a passion. An inspiration that drove you. A natural talent?
Natural talent is not something you should think about when wanting to learn/get better at something you enjoy. I'm not saying someone can't be talented or have natural instincts for something, but a person can develop any skills they'd like as long as they dedicate themselves. This quote from Ratatouille comes to mind:
"Anyone can cook... but only the fearless can be great."
So, I don't think I have natural talent. I rarely think anyone does. I think writing or any artform/practice comes from desire and dedication.
I started writing fanfiction in middle school because I was passionate about it! I had a lot of ideas for original books, and I wanted to explore them on the page and in words. My writing sucked when I first started. It was amateurish and unrefined, full of grammar mistakes and incomprehensible characterization, but I didn't stop writing. I was, and still am, having too much fun.
I think the only way to get good at something is to do it over and over. I've been writing for years, and now that I'm in my mid-twenties, I think that shows. The only real way to figure out and grow with your skill is to work on it every day. You will learn and better yourself naturally through exercise.
If you want to write, write! If you want to get better at writing, keep writing. Let what you love fill up your scribbles and smear all of your plotlines. Don't be consumed by being good or skilled enough because that's not the point. The point is to enjoy what you create. The rest will naturally follow.

for some reason I woke up a couple weeks ago and, after not really thinking much about the mcu at all for years, the flame of righteous indignation on behalf of civil war team cap and at the implications of the accords on all enhanced people in the mcu which I had starved as a fourteen year old in 2016 who was terrified of getting into arguments and of disagreeing with people to the point that I was a literal cacw centrist when asked about it suddenly rose up within me as an inferno, and I suddenly remembered how much I do Not Like tony stark.

I am not immune to this propaganda…
Do you like long fantasy series, but are tired of authors never finishing them?
Do you like interesting magic systems?
Do you like when characters form intense even psychic bonds with animal companions?
Do you like your heart getting ripped out of your chest and then stuffed back in full to bursting and but then ripped out again to get stomped on but it turns out you like that too uhhh let's call it... intense yearning
Do you like dragons? Of course you do, why else would you be on this blog!
WELL DO I HAVE THE BOOK SERIES FOR YOU!
The Realm of the Elderlings is a 16-book series is comprised of four trilogies and a quartet. All of which have been finished. Yes that's right, Robin Hobb saw other authors who can't seem to finish their multi-book fantasy epics and said "I will finish mine 4 different times to show you it's incredibly easy actually." She also has written multiple other series (some under the pen name Megan Lindholm), set in different universes.
So, where to start?
Tumblr media
The components of RotE are:
The Farseer Trilogy
The Liveship Traders Trilogy
The Tawny Man Trilogy
The Rain Wild Chronicles
Fitz and the Fool Trilogy
The three bolded trilogies above are told from the perspective of FitzChivalry Farseer, one of the main/major characters in this universe and my eternal blorbo. The Liveship Traders trilogy and Rain Wild Chronicles are told from several points of view, and happen in chronological order between the series above and flesh out the worldbuilding, lore, history, etc.
For the most complete look at the universe, you can of course read everything. However if you want to stick with just one character, you can read the three bolded trilogies only. And of course, if you don't want to commit to a metric ton of words either way, you can just read the first trilogy and see what you think. Though I do think the levels of joy/pain/adoration increase with each work as you get more invested in the characters, of course.
OR. You can in fact read the Liveship Traders trilogy or the Rain Wild Chronicles quartet completely independently of the others. I actually started with Rain Wild Chronicles because those books have the highest concentration of dragons--it was actually a follower of this blog who recommended them to me, and I decided to jump into those rather than commit to The Whole Series (which at the time was only 13 books not 16). But I loved the writing style and wanted to learn more about the world, so got into the rest, and now I actually think the Rainwilds books are the weakest of the bunch (though I still enjoyed them initially)!
But You're Following This Blog, DailyDragons, So Here's The Part Of The Pitch You're Actually Invested In
Now I will be up front that you don't get many dragons in the first trilogy. There are a kind of dragons that appear at the end but dragons are not the main focus of this one. However Hobb learns from her mistakes about not including tons of dragons in her fantasy world and you get more in the next parts of the series.
The Liveship books deal with sea serpents and dragons in very interesting ways I don't want to spoil, though it's a slow build. But VERY fascinating reveals into the dragon's biology, life history, and magic.
The plot of the later half of the Tawny Man Trilogy revolves around dealing with how the world of this story used to have dragons but they have practically gone extinct. Less direct contact with dragons but still a dragon-centric last book.
Rainwilds is chock full of dragons. Including as POV characters. Can't complain about lack of dragons here at all.
Fitz & The Fool Trilogy is lighter on the dragons at first and then they show up en force at the end. Ta da!
anyway please read these books and join me in my eternal suffering. wait, suffering? nevermind who said that. shhh. it's fine. you will love fitzchivalry farseer. you will love the fool. you will never be the same again.

Saw your post about TFOne Bumblebee being mistaken for Damus/Tarn and was reminded of an idea I saw ages ago somewhere about scrapping D-16's name and calling him Dion
honestly I think a better bet would've been replacing Bee with Dion entirely. Honest to god, based on the influences going into tfone.

saying kandrew wouldn't work romantically because they have a habit of snapping their teeth at each other about their potentials and that kevin wouldn't respect andrews no's in a sexual context because he pushes his buttons on court is such a bad faith argument that misses nearly all of their canon relationship development

the eat your young needle drop in we were liars is so weird because, the song is perfect for the show?? like it’s a rich family being terrible and ruining each other’s and their own children’s lives to get money. but they use it on a happy scene of the kids having fun AND exclude most of the lyrics that talk about those themes. like you did all the math, got the right answer, and wrote in the entirely wrong number anyways

on another note —
largely what turned me off from sukuna was how the fandom treated him. he’s wildly sexualized. like to a very disgusting degree, both here and in general fandom spaces. i greatly appreciated sukuna’s brief backstory with uraume bc it really emphasized that devotion =/= sexual/romantic. it was always master/apprentice, mentor/mentee, some form of family.
Tumblr media
bc ppl can’t see beyond sexualization !!!!!!! that part. going on twt is just being bombarded with interpretations focused on romantic or sexual dynamics. and honestly, even here - though i personally haven’t seen it but just given the nature of the rpc i wouldn’t be surprised.
anyways …….. i’m tempted to write sukuna just to explore him detached from a sexualized lens like i’ve seen nonstop

Hmmm… when people are clearly making a jokey joke, everybody is so quick to take it seriously and get all up in arms, but when someone is actually being genuinely offensive and nasty in fandom, somehow nobody can tell… lol okay
