Amazon’s 2023 edition of the Fire HD 10 ($139.99) combines a premium design with good performance while costing slightly less than its predecessor, making it the best tablet you can buy for under $150. Like all Amazon tablets, the Fire HD 10 is limited by its focus on the company's own software, services, and app store, though it's still an excellent way to browse the internet or stream music, movies, and TV shows. If you want a tablet for productivity or content creation, you’ll have to pay significantly more for a model like the $259 Lenovo Tab P11 Plus or the $329 Apple iPad. But if you simply want an affordable slate for consuming media, the Fire HD 10 earns our Editors' Choice award for cheap tablets.The Fire HD 10 has historically received the most capable processor and largest screen of Amazon’s tablets, but this dynamic was changed with the introduction of the bigger and more powerful Fire Max 11 ($229.99) earlier this year. The Fire HD 10 may no longer be Amazon's flagship tablet, but it's still the most versatile. It comes in various bundles and configurations—including kid-friendly versions—that aren't available for the Fire Max 11.The tablet comes in Black, Lilac, or Ocean and starts at $139.99 with ads on the lock screen and 32GB of storage. It looks good when watching movies and TV shows, though the viewing angles aren’t great; you’ll want to make sure you’re looking at the screen straight on. Text on Kindle books appears clear and sharp, even when set to smaller font sizes. The Fire HD 8 compresses the screen to 8 inches with 1,280 by 800 pixels for a density of 189ppi, while the 7-inch Fire 7 drops to 1,024 by 600 pixels at a density of just 171ppi. The large Fire Max 11 expands the screen to 11 inches with 2,000 by 1,200 pixels at 213ppi.There are two speakers along the left side of the tablet that produce stereo sound. They reached 91.6dB in testing. That’s certainly loud enough to fill a small room, but not much more. The quality of the sound is fine for dialogue in movies and TV shows, but its narrow soundstage means you won’t be able to hear many details in music. You’ll definitely want to connect a pair of headphones if you want the best audio experience, and while you can always use a wireless pair, you’re also able to plug in directly via the 3.5mm headphone jack on the upper right corner. The USB-C port for charging and transferring files sits next to the headphone jack, while the raised volume rocker and power button are situated in the upper left corner. This is also where you’ll find the slot for a microSD card.

The Fire HD 10 has an eight-core CPU with two Arm Cortex-A76 cores at 2.05GHz and six Arm Cortex-A55 cores at 2.0GHz. Both the 32GB and 64GB models come with the same 3GB of RAM, which is just enough to enable light multitasking without causing an issue. I didn't experience any lag while I had multiple tabs open in Amazon’s Silk browser nor when I was running multiple apps at a time in the background. 

The processor is more than capable of handling streaming services, Zoom video conferencing, Kindle applications, and browsing the internet. I was even able to play basic games like Hungry Shark and other less-intensive fare. I encountered some playability problems in NHL Blast on Roblox, where I faced stuttering and slowdowns when performing basic maneuvers like attempting to move my player across the ice. This tablet isn't made for even moderate gaming, so those looking for top gaming performance should check out more powerful alternatives outside of the Amazon ecosystem. The Fire HD 8 and 7 are even more sluggish, while the Fire Max 11, though more robust in general, still lacks the power needed for stutter-free gaming. On Geekbench 5, the Fire HD 10 scored 515 on the single-core test and 1,516 on the multi-core test. The Fire HD 8 couldn’t run Geekbench 5 without crashing, while the Fire Max 11 bested the Fire HD 10 with scores of 691 and 1,914. By comparison, the $479 OnePlus Pad, a midrange Android tablet, scored 810 and 2,123 on the same tests.

Battery life on the Fire HD 10 is good. Amazon doesn’t specify the size of its battery, but it performed well in our tests, lasting 10 hours and 18 minutes while streaming HD video over Wi-Fi with the screen brightness set to the maximum. This is about the same result we got from the Fire HD 8 (10 hours and 3 minutes) but is significantly longer than the Fire Max 11 (7 hours and 55 minutes). Even the entry-level iPad (5 hours and 59 minutes) doesn’t hold a candle to the enduring juice of the Fire HD 10. 

Amazon includes a 9W charger in the box, which fully charges the tablet in about four hours, though you can shorten that to about three hours if you have a 15W charger. 

The tablet connected seamlessly to the internet via Wi-Fi 5 and to Bluetooth devices via Bluetooth 5.3. It got similar download (26Mbps) and upload (16Mbps) speeds over the network as my laptop and iPad. I do wish the Fire HD 10 supported the newer and faster Wi-Fi 6 or Wi-Fi 6E protocols, but it didn't make for a noticeable downturn in real-world use.

I have a list of retellings, that I titled "Trash". I'm too harsh?

Blood of Hercules, Asterion, and a ton of Medusa, and Hades and Pesephone retellings are on it. It has curently 65 books on it, but I'm shure there are a lot more that could go on it, I haven't updated it in a whaile.

Drop the titles. Some terrible retellings might just be the thing to get me out of this awful reading slump. Also curious how many of them I have read already.

A/N: I chose prompt #2 which is “Person A and Person B are on a hammock together. Person B is asleep on Person A’s chest who has one foot on the floor so they can rock the hammock in hopes of keeping Person B asleep.” Sorry about it being so short. I’m currently wishing I hadn’t gotten rid of my Amazon Prime account bc I really wanna go back and watch Teen Wolf again lol (even though I have yet to finish Supernatural or Fairy Tail -_-)  Don’t forget you can also request a prompt from list for whatever character from whichever fandom you’d like or you can request something of your own 😊 Anyway, love to all!

Third Person POV

    The McCall pack decided to all go camping out on the Preserve for the weekend. The sunlight filters through the trees as Lydia whines about the unexpected rain that had fallen last night as she sits on large rock bundled up in a faux fur coat. Malia is absolutely in her element and has been laying on the damp, leaf strewn ground ever since she exited her tent several hours prior, even though Lydia keeps telling her that she’ll catch a cold if she doesn’t get up and put a jacket on. Mason and Corey are debating about who knows what in their seats on a mossy log. Scott and Derek are tending to a small fire as Alec and Liam gather twigs and other kindling materials from the surrounding area. Noticing that he hasn’t seen his younger sibling and best friend in a quite a bit, Scott looks up from the fire and looks around trying to catch their scents, with no luck due to the swirling wind.  

    Derek straightens up thinking something is wrong, “Please don’t tell me you smell a threat.”

    “No, I’m just looking for (Y/n) and Stiles,” Scott responds still trying to catch any sign of their location. Derek looks around as well before nudging the worried Alpha and pointing at a hammock that’s swaying gently behind the tents. Scott relaxes and smiles a bit before getting up to go check on them.

    The rustle of leaves alerts Stiles to someone’s approach as Scott comes into view with a grin plastered on his face. Stiles has one leg hanging over the side of the hammock, pressing his foot against the ground to keep the hammock swaying. (Y/n) lays on Stiles’s chest bundled up in one of his flannels and a leather jacket with a blanket thrown over them. The youngest McCall has their face buried in Stiles’s neck but Scott can see that they’re sound asleep.

    “Didn’t sleep last night?” Scott asks quietly as not to wake (Y/n) as he leans against a tree.

    Stiles yawns and nods, “The rain kept both of us awake.”

    “You should probably get some sleep too,” Scott says chuckling.

    “If I fall asleep then who will keep the hammock rocking,” Stiles replies with an air of sarcasm and drama.

    (Y/n) shifts the slightest bit as Scott rolls his eyes, “Alright, just let me know if you need anything then.

    “Coffee would be nice,” Stiles mumbles mostly to himself. A thermos is placed by his shoulder that (Y/n) isn’t snuggled up against so he thanks Scott before trying to figure out how to open the thermos with one hand. He finally sighs in defeat and asks Scott to come open it for him. Unable to hold his laughter, Scott returns to the hammock to open the coffee for Stiles before returning to the fire.

Lazy (RWBY AU Snippet)

“Mom!” Li screamed. “Help! I think Gambol Shroud is drowning!”

Despite the panic in her daughter’s voice, Blake had a hard time believing that her two-hundred-feet-long dragon was somehow drowning in a lake that she was fairly certain wasn’t that deep. Nevertheless, she was still morally obligated to check just in case her layabout of a partner had somehow gotten lazy enough to forget to breathe.

As she reached the top of the hill and looked down at the lake, she could immediately understand why her daughter was so worried. Gambol Shroud was floating in the water face down with her wings splayed apart and her limbs akimbo.

“Good grief.” Blake walked over to the edge of the lake and picked up a smooth, flat stone. She skipped it across the water until the stone hit the dragon in the side. When that didn’t produce a response, she picked up a slightly larger stone and simply threw it. The stone clattered off the dragon’s scales, and Gambol Shroud finally deigned to raise her head out of the water.

What? The dragon blinked owlishly. I was napping.

“Face down in the water?”

I can hold my breath for more than two hours, and the water is softer than the ground.

“You are the laziest dragon ever.”

“You’ve alive!” Li looked as though she wanted to leap into he lake to hug the dragon. “I thought you were drowning!”

I can’t drown. Even if I got stuck underwater, I can just go into my shadow form. I don’t need to breathe in that form, and I can just... hang around. Gambol Shroud yawned and rolled onto her back. Water flew every which way, and Blake hastily cast a shielding spell to protect herself and Li from the deluge. Is it time for lunch yet?

“You haven’t done anything all day, and you’re worried about lunch?”

Napping is a form of meditation. Gambol Shroud closed her eyes and basked in the warm sunshine. I’m honing my powers with every nap. She pointed one claw into the air. We can’t all be that enthusiastic.

Above them, a cackling Crescent Rose was streaking through the sky with Ruby on her back. the pair must be testing another speed-enhancement spell because the speed they were moving at was insane. “I don’t expect you to be that active, but you do realise that it’s your turn to get lunch.”

Oh. Gambol Shroud waved her claw dismissively. Can you do it? I’ll do it next time.

“You said that last time.”

Fine. Gambol Shroud’s magic flexed, and there was a sibilant hiss as spears of pure shadow lanced into the depths of the lake. A few moments later, a bundle of fish was tossed onto the shore. There. You can have those fish for lunch. She grinned ever so slightly. And I didn’t even have to move.

Blake had once taken pride in the unmatched skill with which Gambol Shroud could manipulate shadows - no other dragon could match her skills - but then she’d realised why Gambol Shroud had gotten so good at it. Pure laziness. the dragon had worked out that she could expend less energy on average if she learned how to do everything with her shadows.

Whether it was tucking the twins in at night because they insisted that having a dragon tuck them in was awesome or whether it was fighting enemy dragons and monstrous beasts of all shapes and sizes, the odds were good that Gambol Shroud could do it without lifting a claw. In combat against the Grimm, she was fully capable of turning entire swathes of the landscape into forests of razor-sharp shadows upon which were hoisted hundreds, even thousands of dead Grimm, a macabre reminder that for all her laziness, she was enormously powerful.

“A little help with the fire?” Blake asked. “Since you are a dragon.”

Gambol Shroud gathered some kindling with her shadows and then breathed a puff of flame to start the fire. There. Wake me up when it’s almost done. The fish aren’t enough to keep me fed, but there is a hydra a few hills over that I can eat.

That hydra had likely been terrorising the local for weeks, and Gambol Shroud was going to deal with it because it was the closest thing big enough to fill her stomach. It was equal parts lazy and inspiring. 

“Just don’t make too much of a mess.”

In her eternal quest to be as lazy as possible, Gambol Shroud has become super efficient and super proficient with her shadows. Maximum results for minimum effort is her mantra, and she has become flexible enough to do just about anything with her shadows too.

The only thing about bundling it is...what if someone doesn’t want all of it? Or what if they already have a lot of it? I mean, from what I understand, once CC is bundled, it’s not an easy process to un-bundle, and the Uni, especially, has a LOT of CC in the form of hood deco.

That it is! And thank you. :) It kind of got out of hand. I didn’t intend for it to be that big, but then I tend to go overboard, so.... I think I’d share it as a main hood, though. Unless people would prefer it as a uni template? Or maybe I’ll do both? Either way it’ll need to be finished with lots. I guess I’ll put out a general ask when the time comes that it’s ready for sharing.

Yeah, before I came over here to Tumblr, it dawned on me that there are predecorated-but-lotless terrains up for download at MTS. So, I downloaded one of those and, yep, the whole neighborhood folder. I’ll be including the CC, though, mostly because I have no clue where I got most of the stuff I have or who made it, so finding links would be problematic and time-consuming. :)

Yeah, that was actually kind of why I liked the name in Esperanto. Because speakers of English and the Romance languages are going to see “fire” in the name, and it’s kind of appropriate since I plopped a volcano on it. OR there’s the connotation of “flaming” gay men. All this even though the word has nothing to do with fire in Esperanto, except maybe in a figurative sense. Pride in being who you are could be seen as a sort of internal fire that can either make you warm and confident and glowing from the inside or burn you up if there’s too much of it, I suppose. So it works all around, I guess.
