So this is the fic I was asked about, I've been pretty hyped about someone reaching out to me about it. A little bg if anyone cares, my beta and I were both in in our mid teens when we worked on this when I posted it in 2017 and then my computer crashed and my mother burnt all my stuff in a fire pit in our yard which honestly just sucked. because of my other fic, Victim of Love So I had to start again but it's not too different from the og concept just specific elements were added last minute and now I can't remember which gmail did my later chapters in google docs my drafts are in. so yeah, I can't remember the concept but i'm looking high and low for it.

Fanfiction readers: I am begging you to create an AO3 account.
If you don't have one, you're likely missing out on some of the good stuff and don't even know it.
With the uptick in robo-plagiarism, AI scraping and bot abuse, more and more AO3 authors are setting their works so they are visible only to logged-in users (whether or not this actually prevents bots from accessing them is another discussion, but it is the current trend). This means when users without an account go to AO3 to look for something to read, a large percentage of potential matches do not appear in the search results. Nor can those users see that more stories exist, or even look up a locked work by author or title.
To demonstrate, I've locked my works to logged-in users only. Here's the Works count displayed on my public-facing author profile when I'm logged in:
And here's the Works count displayed on my author profile when I'm not logged in:
Even related works linked within the site will not display anything about the story, including its title. Here's how a translation link looks when logged in:
And the same story, when logged out:
To users without an account, those stories aren't only not readable, they're completely invisible.
Fortunately, it's easy to create an account. Just click the Invite Requests link below and enter your email address, and then follow the directions in the invite email when it arrives (usually in one to two weeks, depending on request backlog).
If there's a reason you don't want to/aren't allowed to receive AO3 email at your primary email account, you can make a free webmail account (Gmail, Yahoo, Outlook, Hushmail, GMX, et al.) and use that to sign up. (Once your account has been created, you can also disable all future email communication from AO3.)
Then, if you click "Keep me logged in" when you sign into AO3 on your computer or mobile device, you will remain logged in on that device/browser indefinitely without needing to re-enter your password (though clearing cookies or updating your browser may require logging back in). You will also be able to view and comment on user-locked stories, curate your own bookmarks and collections, manage your reading history, customize your site skins and reading preferences, and more. There are also lots of privacy options.
I know it's an extra step to go through, but it's simple, it's free, and under the current onslaught of AI and bot nonsense, it's becoming a necessity.

A few more days had passed, and nothing had come from Vendetta yet. One might assume she had given up the fight before she even started—but that couldn't be further from the truth. In fact, she had been planning, scheming, carefully orchestrating her revenge. She was determined to tear Jim apart from the inside out.
So, just when his guard had been let down, there came a letter. It didn't come in the mail; no, it was pushed through the window of his basement. It was quickly shoved inside, then whoever had sent it scurried away quickly.
Within this letter were several index cards. Each was a missing poster of an Adopt Me pet, with their eyes crossed out and their mouths dripping blood like some kind of creepypasta. They all looked so miserable, so desperate... and the specific pets on the posters looked quite familiar to him: they were the ones he took from her...
There was something else in the letter too: a usb with a single audio file on it. It was five minutes of a breathy little voice repeating menacing messages over and over again:
"We’ve only just begun. I will never let you leave; I will never let you rest.
Seeing you powerless is like music to me.
You will not be spared; you will not be saved.
The fire within me burns eternal, and now you shall as well."
The messages are quite ominous and threatening, but then it becomes apparent that these are just stolen FNaF quotes. Even then, it doesn't seem funny: it just seems creepy and weird. Combined with the missing pet posters, it seems like the sender was trying to scare Jim.
It's obvious who the hate mail is from. But it seems so odd that a small child would go this far just to get an apology. How did she get his address? How did she put files on a USB drive?
She was a little weirdo, that was for sure. It was tempting to see how far he could drag this hatred, how far he could push her. But that was also a terrifying idea at the same time. The question wasn't 'how far could he push her,' but rather 'how far was she willing to go?'
Ooc: Vendetta sending him hate mail lmaoo,, she's just a little hater /silly /ref
"Is this kid serious?"
Sadly for him, she was, normaly when he pranked a child there was no reprercusion whatsoever, but her relationship with Raphael make her discover his identity too easily, but even then, he wasnt going to give up just because a bratty child wanted her virtual pets back
If she wanted war, Jim could give her that.
Searching on his locker, he found a small USB, that he planned saving for a special ocasion, but desesperate times call for desesperate needs...
He pluged it into his computer and attached the archive inside to a Gmail for Vendetta, with the title "Okay, im sorry" after finishing it, he pressed "send" and leaned down on his chair.
Lets see how his first attempt at making a Trojan virus went.

Welcome to Sapienzanniversary 2024, a Flash Fest to celebrate Sapienza’s anniversary on April 26th!
Due to real life stuff, this year's Sapienzanniversary will be a flash fest, which means short creation period, but also low low minimum wordcount: 100 words (= a drabble). If you want to write more, you are very, very welcome to do so!
No prompts this time, everyone is free to come up with their own scenarios, as long as they're Sapienza-related. For inspiration, you can take a look at the Sapienzanniversary 2023 tag set.
Art is welcome! If you don't want to post your art to AO3, you can post it to Tumblr (Glaze and Nightshade are recommended; if you don't have a computer of if yours can't run Glaze you can get access to WebGlaze!) and use the tag Sapienzanniversary 2024 to have it reblogged to this blog.
Work reveals will be on April 26th, 16:59 UTC. This iteration of Sapienzanniversary won't have an anonymous period.
All characters, all ships, all headcanons are welcome.
Make sure that your fanworks do not contain any hostile elements towards people you disagree with in any part of the fanwork (title, tags, summary, author’s notes, body text). Refrain from adding DNI notes.
If you shame or harass other participants or non-participating fans, or if there are signs that you have deliberately caused problems in multiple events, your fanwork will be rejected from the collection.
If you want to participate but don't have an AO3 account yet, please slide into my DMs or send me an ask, either here on this blog or on my main @diana-fortyseven! You can also reach out per email: hitmanexchange+sapienza(at)gmail(dot)com

The Benefits of Cloud Hosting for Small Business
In the past, hosting websites and apps just required paying a digital platform provider to rent out a single server or computing cluster. Services for web hosting have existed for as long as the internet. Over the past ten years, cloud hosting where the website or application resides on virtual servers dispersed across the cloud has emerged as a popular way to make digital assets accessible online.
A worldwide content delivery network can be connected to by Google Cloud to provide customers with optimal speed and minimal latency when serving material, or a domain can be registered and managed. Google Cloud also provides a range of hosting options for websites and applications.
What is cloud hosting?
Your data is stored on several servers rather than on a single server, which is what is meant by the term "cloud hosting." The term "cloud" refers to this network of several servers that collaborate to form the network. Cloud hosting services are currently being utilized by a multitude of businesses, both large and small. An investment of this kind is definitely worth the rewards, and it has the potential to achieve great things for your company.
You will have a single platform from which you can manage all of your applications and databases, which will allow you to streamline your operations. The productivity of your firm can also be improved by making an investment in cloud infrastructure resources. The various advantages of cloud hosting will be discussed in further depth in the following paragraphs.
Cloud hosting’s Significance for Small Businesses-
Adopting cloud computing has becoming increasingly important for small organizations. It helps small businesses to avoid the high initial investment and ongoing maintenance costs of having internal IT infrastructure. Small businesses can now access advanced technologies and capabilities that were previously exclusive to large organizations by utilizing the cloud.
What are the applications of cloud computing?
Although you might not be aware of it, there is a good chance that you are currently utilizing cloud computing. Whether you use an online service such as Gmail or Outlook 365 to send an email, collaborate on a document, save data, or stream a video, cloud computing makes it feasible behind the scenes to do all of these things.
Cloud Hosting:
Cloud hosting services make it possible to share a variety of information, such as using email services, hosting applications, using web-based phone systems, and storing data. Hosting your company's website, managing databases, and storing domain names are all things that may be done with a cloud hosting service. The fact that cloud hosting services are located offsite makes it simple to scale up in order to handle peak loads.
Backup services:
Backup services in the cloud are failsafe solutions that can be utilized in the event that your company suffers a server disaster, cyberattack, or other type of data loss. Storage, data synchronization and restoration, real-time backups, archiving, and a high level of security are all features that are included in the top cloud backup services. A great number of cloud storage firms now offer cloud backup and storage capabilities.
Storage in the cloud:
Cloud services guarantee that your data is stored in a cloud storage system that is located offsite, making it more convenient to access from any device or place that is linked to the internet. In cloud storage, you are able to securely exchange information with others and synchronize files across several devices. Companies such as Dropbox, Microsoft OneDrive, and Google Drive are examples of well-known cloud storage services.
Software as a service
Software as a service, also known as SaaS, is a solution for the distribution of applications that is hosted in the computer's cloud. SaaS solutions can be utilized by businesses in a variety of operational domains. For instance, you may adopt software for customer relationship management (CRM) that is hosted on the cloud, such as Salesforce, for the purpose of managing sales, accounting software, such as QuickBooks Online, for managing finances, and email marketing software for improving marketing communications.
Cloud Solutions' Advantages for Small Businesses-
Affordable
Small firms can minimize their expenditures on hardware, software licenses, and information technology by switching to cloud-based services, which results in cost savings. Companies that provide cloud computing services often provide a pay-as-you-go approach, which enables organizations to only pay for the resources and services that they actually employ.
Protection of Sensitive Information and Disaster Recovery
Cloud service companies adopt stringent security procedures to protect vulnerable information. In addition to this, they provide solutions for disaster recovery and automatic backups, which serves to ensure that vital corporate information is safeguarded, quickly recoverable, and less likely to be lost.
Scalability:
Cloud hosting solutions enable small businesses to swiftly scale their operations up or down as needed without the inconvenience and expense of physically upgrading their gear and software. Scalability includes the ability to scale up or down activities. This flexibility enables adaptability and growth prospects, both of which are essential in a market that is very competitive.
Advantage in the Market
Cloud hosting solutions give small firms the ability to compete on an equal playing field with larger organizations, which gives them a competitive advantage. It is possible for them to obtain insights, streamline operations, and make decisions based on data without breaking the bank by utilizing sophisticated software, analytics tools, and advanced information technology.
Flexibility
As a result of the fact that all that is required to access the cloud is an internet connection, one of the advantages of cloud hosting is that it provides direct remote access to the data that is pertinent to all of your employees, including yourself. If you run a small business, it's possible that you don't have the financial resources to purchase a dedicated office space. People are able to work from any location they choose thanks to this cloud-based technology. Having the ability to operate from a remote location is more important than ever before for the success of a company, especially in light of the recent epidemic.
Increased Capacity for Collaboration and Adaptability
Cloud solutions enable small businesses to communicate with remote team members, clients, and partners in a seamless manner, which helps improve the flexibility and collaboration capabilities of these firms. It makes it possible to share files in real time, modify them simultaneously, and gain access to the most recent versions of documents, all of which contribute to increased productivity and efficiency.
The Most Recent Technology
Cloud hosting eliminates the need for you to worry about the possibility of automatically upgrading and customizing your servers, in contrast to traditional hosting, which does not permit such activities. Scalability is something that may be easily achieved as your company expands and your requirements and preferences shift.
Because cloud hosting businesses are experts in this kind of technology, this is something that can be easily accomplished. Since they have access to more resources, they are able to undertake research and construct systems that are more robust and powerful. You will have access to the most cutting-edge technologies available if you make an investment in cloud infrastructure.
Very little to no upkeep is required
Recall what I mentioned earlier regarding the safety concerns associated with cloud computing. That being said, a portion of that security necessitates the routine maintenance of servers, the updating of software, and the administration of networks. The good news is that cloud computing relieves you of the responsibility of doing all of that upkeep and instead places it in the hands of skilled specialists.
Because none of the equipment is hosted by you, you do not need to be concerned about purchasing newer versions of it every three to four years. You are not required to deal with any of that maintenance, which frees up more time for your firm to concentrate on the product or service that it offers.
Remote access
When it comes to cloud computing, your email account is the ideal illustration. Providing that you have your login credentials and an internet connection, you are able to access your consolidated email account from any computer. Cloud computing is appealing to a majority of businesses because of the convenience it provides. Your colleagues and you will be able to access your work from any location in the globe thanks to the cloud, which eliminates the need to store your work on a desktop computer or on a local area network (LAN) server that is not linked to the internet. Your productivity and freedom in your workspace will both increase as a result of this remote access.
Conclusion-
Through the simplification of procedures and the facilitation of real-time collaboration among members of a team, cloud computing has the potential to boost both efficiency and productivity. It is possible for teams to collaborate effectively regardless of their geographical location or the time zone differences between them if they have shared access to documents and files. In addition, many cloud-based services provide automation technologies that reduce the amount of manual work that employees have to perform, such as data entry or report production. This allows employees to concentrate on high-value tasks that contribute to the success of the company.

I’ve never heard of Webtoon and doubt this very much. I think the real cause of the death of webcomics is all about the demise of practical RSS (by which we mostly mean the death of Google Reader) and the death of the blogosphere, and by those we really mean the rise of social media.
It used to be that how you followed people on the internet was you read their blog. If you only followed a few of them, you’d check back every day or two (or a couple times per day for the really prolific writers) and see what they said; if you were bored and had some free time, you’d check their blogroll, which was a list of other blogs they liked and wanted you to know about, usually along the side of the page. Webcomics followed this same pattern. If you followed a lot of them (blogs or comics), you’d subscribe to their RSS feeds (for an example from a long-runner, QC and its RSS). You’d put the long list of feeds into a feed reader; back in the day this was probably Google Reader, which was simple, easy to use, accessible to anyone with a Gmail account i.e. everyone, and could be used on your home and work computers interchangeably. This would give you a list of things you’d read/seen and things you hadn’t, and you could flip a switch to see the archive of read stuff or hide it.
This was very good for webcomics. Blogrolls especially; the webcomics people all knew a bunch of others, from being similar people or meeting at comiccons or having gotten inspired to start drawing by each other. So they linked to their friends, and it was pretty easy to catch up on all of them and follow along, and RSS made that easy to scale.
Then Web2.0 and social media happened. You stopped following internet friends by reading their blog and started following them on Twitter, Facebook, Google+ (lolsob), Tumblr, etc. You could still kind of coerce that into an RSS feed (tumblr mostly works, 3rd-party tools can make Twitter mostly work), and you could sometimes recommend your friends/crushes/fans/idols for other people to see and take a look at, but most of that ecosystem broke down entirely. It stopped being feasible to have a self-reinforcing network of friends that brought good stuff to your attention, because social media was taking that niche and not making space for that kind of free association. (In either sense.) And it was better at drawing eyeballs, so people abandoned their blogrolls and RSS feeds and stopped following those webcomics or looking for new ones.
Webtoon looks to me like an attempt to salvage webcomics by providing a Web 2.0 comics platform, a goal in which it maybe partially succeeded. It launched in English a year after Google Reader died, so around the time the death of webcomics was becoming obvious. This was two years before Homestuck ended, right in the middle of the gigapause. (When we had not yet learned that Hussie was both full of, and a piece of, shit. Which probably would have been fatal to successors, even if the media environment had been good for them, TBH. No one wants to follow an act which left everyone with a bad taste in their mouth.)
By the time Homestuck actually ended, the writing was no longer on the wall. It was on a piece of certified mail delivered to everyone who had been reading webcomics, with return receipt and everything, demanding that they acknowledge they’d gotten the message. Only if you had never know the Old Ways could you miss that they were gone.
These days blogs are back; Substack has resurrected them and they come to your email inbox. But that’s a lot easier than providing a general platform for multimedia web’comic’s, and while traditional webcomics are still somewhat viable, if you want to go crazy you’re going to need to self-host and that cuts out about 95% of possible creators and 99.9% of possible platforms.
People don't like to admit it bcs cringe or w/e but Homestuck really did revolutionize the webcomic as a storytelling medium and I am endlessly frustrated that before webcomic artists could really stretch our legs fucking webtoonz swooped in, set a new, more restrictive standard, and then monetized and monopolized the ever living fuck out of the concept of The Webcomic until it drove away anyone who couldn't be a professional quality manga artist for free, and now the only webcomics that actually feel like spiritual successors to Homestuck are so obscure they're basically cult classics that you have to beg people to read.
Like it's just so wild to be in high school and see Homestuck be like "we're using like fifteen different artistic mediums to tell this story bcs we can" and be really fucking inspired by that, only to grow up and see basically every webcomic ever have to conform to One Single Standard or fucking perish.

How to Monitor Gmail Messages Efficiently Monitoring Gmail messages is a useful strategy for staying on top of all your information, especially if you use this account for personal or professional purposes. Proper email management allows you to respond in a timely manner, detect potential fraud, and prevent important messages from getting lost in the spam folder.
One way to monitor messages is by enabling notifications on both your mobile phone and your computer. Hacking Gmail allows you to receive a notification every time a new email arrives. You just need to go to your settings and enable desktop or mobile notifications.
Another key tool is filters. You can create custom filters so that every email from a specific sender is automatically archived, labeled, or forwarded. This is very useful for organizing your inbox and saving time searching for relevant emails.
You can also use the advanced search feature. With commands like “from:,” “subject:,” or “has:attachment,” you can quickly monitor messages of a certain type. This feature is ideal if you need to keep track of specific information.
Additionally, if you share your account with other users or want to keep track of usage, you can review the activity history and see which devices your account has been accessed from. This protects your security and privacy.
Properly monitoring your Gmail messages will help you not only stay informed, but also prevent problems and maintain good communication. Take advantage of these features and stay on top of your email.

Someone in the tags was saying they wished they could subscribe to an author for just certain fandoms. While this isn't something that AO3 currently has set up, it is something you're able to do yourself.
In your own email account, you can set up a filter!
If you have a Gmail account, you'll need to do this on a computer instead of a phone. Open up one of your AO3 subscription emails and click on the three dots at the top right corner to open up the menu
Choose Filter messages like this from the dropdown. This will create a popup where you can say what you want to filter out. On the line that says Has the words, write the fandom or fandoms that you want to filter. If it’s multiple words, make sure you put them in quotation marks.
After you create the filter, you’ll be able to tell Gmail what you want to do with those emails. Check off every option that applies. I tend to keep everything, so I’d just mark it as read and archive it. You might want to delete it. Please do not mark it as spam, though!
Then just create the filter and enjoy a subscription without the fandoms you don’t read. And if you ever do start reading them, you can just edit your filter and allow them in your inbox again.
AO3 Subscriptions
So, if you didn't know, ao3 has lots of subscription options. As long as you have an account and your email address is up to date, you can get various levels of notifications. You need to be a logged in user in order to subscribe.
Please note: don't use a school email address because when you leave that school, that address dies and you might lose access to your account. Yahoo and AOL emails also don't seem to work well these days, so I'd suggest a different free option than those ones.
Now to continue about subscriptions. You can subscribe in 3 different ways, depending on what notifications you want to receive.
1. Subscribe to a fic. Go to the fic and hit the subscribe button at the top of the page. You will now receive an email each time a new chapter is posted.

2. Subscribe to a series. Go to the series page by clicking on the name of the series at the top of the fic (it's a link, just like the fic title is). At the top of the series page, hit the button to subscribe. This will notify you by email any time a new work is added to a series. You will also get emails about new chapters to any stories in that series.

3. Subscribe to an author. Click on the author's name to go to their profile page and click the subscribe button at the top. Now you will receive an email notification every time that author posts a new work or adds a chapter to an existing work.

These emails will all contain links to take you directly to the story/chapter.
Happy reading!

Want to learn how to archive Gmail Emails the modern way? Here is the answer: Mail Backup X
Emails are a major part of every single person’s life who is connected to the internet. It is the fastest, cheapest and easiest ways to transfer information across the world. You can literally send important documents, birthday pictures, invitations and a lot more, halfway across the world with a single click of a button. It makes the world feel small as far as communication goes.

But have you ever given a thought about what happens to the information that you are sending and receiving via emails? They are actually getting stored on your machine or a remote server based on the type of email client you prefer. As the time passes, all this data starts getting accumulated on the storage space. This can make your data a lot vulnerable to different kinds of losses and attacks. Therefore, you can lose it all very quickly if you don’t manage it. This article will help you know all about how you can manage the data and archive your Gmail emails.
Problems Associated with Not Managing Your Data
When all of your data starts getting accumulated at a single place it can affect the performance of the server as well as your computer system. If your email client is desktop based, then the data gets accumulated on your system, making it slow and inefficient. This can also hamper your daily day to day to tasks.
This is just the minor issues that you would be facing if you don’t manage your data. Bigger issues are of data loss or corruption. Since everything is stored in a single place, a single error, issue or attack can make you lose it all.

Yeah, for the most part? That's literally what doing email meant. Saying that's not sending email would be absolutely incomprehensible in the machine's original lifetime. It's still what most people do with their email now, since most people use a web browser client where everything's happening on a server. There's no SMTP or IMAP connection happening natively on their computer or phone when someone logs into their Gmail, their Yahoo Mail, their Outlook Web Access, whatever.
Running a full local email server to your computer that handles all the actual email directly, receives mail directly and sends mail directly to the internet at large, that's a weird hobbyist thing that frankly gets you put on a likely spammer list, and leaves you vulnerable to completely missing any email sent when you aren't online - and that's on modern broadband where the expectation is permanent connectivity. You really really couldn't expect to do that on any home systems back in the day, unless you were specifically running a BBS system and on something like fidonet, which was specifically designed to cater to only being available to exchange mail between node and wider network over night (you know, for "phone line is likely idle" and "long distance rates are cheaper" reasons!)
Like what's really the difference between this and using Microsoft Outlook to sync up with your actual email server which does the minute-to-minute handling of incoming and outgoing mail? You keep a local archive sure, you prepare email offline. But all the networks you'd use back in the day also let you store mail locally on your own computer (in fact, the storage limits on the services tended to demand it) and prepare it offline too. Your smaller scale services like BBSes and university/corporate dial-in services did it too.
To bring it back to the fidonet mention, though, tons of people ran BBSes on their Commodore 64s. You only needed a modem and storage drives connected after all. If you were on fidonet, you could send messages that would get all the way around the world, it's just not going to be instant-ish like we expect today. Expectations were substantially different back in the era where networks weren't, well, inter-networked. When they had gateway services only sparingly if at all. And of course even more people simply dialed into someone else's C64 BBS from their own C64.
As things went on, FIDONET for example gained gateways to the internet for sending email to addresses on there, as the internet started to exist. So too did services like like CompuServe and all the rest gain first simple connections to pass through email, and then become full ISPs. Some of the time before, you could already send emails between these online services through x.25 connections or other forms of long dead connection protocols. We didn't have TCP/IP as a thing even running ARPANET specifically until 1983, it took years and years for that to penetrate into merely technical expert use. And many available tcp/ip networks for the mid-late 80s weren't actively connected to each other either, just like CompuServe and The Source and Dow Jones Information Services and yadda yadda which weren't IP based. You simply had multiple email addresses/accounts on multiple services and networks if they didn't have a regularly operating network bridge!
But again, for a modern usage, then we have Contiki. Because Contiki was developed to fill in with modern networking that was effectively useless for random C64 users, or any other platform really, to be using in the 80s until the very late edge. Because you could rely on other means to handle email and pass-through text browsing up til the late 90s for the most part - even fidonet is honestly still in existence now if someone wanted to use it.
This is also why there's only a few other older applications for specifically using internet email in what we'd consider somewhat modern ways mentioned by other people in the notes. By the time that was widely available, the C64 was over a decade old and nearing end of production with Commodore itself collapsing. A user of that time still using a C64 was generally happy to continue using what they had done before for network services, rather than coding up a specifically "native" internet program to do email or other tasks, there wasn't that apparent disdain for dialing in and using a remote computer.
Even with Contiki, it was something of a fun artifact that the effort to create a hypercompact low resource tcp/ip stack that could do meaningful work, could also still run on a variety of popular old low capability 8 bit personal computers. It's a lot easier to demonstrate that it works if you plop it on a computer people could still transfer software to and use it interactively, instead of having to obtain and understand the embedded hardware projects it was also supporting, where it was often only to be used remotely from a full computer.
can the commodore send e-mail
Which Commodore machine?
If someone has figured out a way to do it with one of the 8-bit Commodore machines, I will be impressed.
I'm sure someone has a DOS program that can send email, which could run from one of the PC compatible Commodore machines
I'm also sure an email client was developed for the Amiga at some point.
However, I've never tried, or discussed the concept with anyone who has likely done either of those last two things.

I'm working on an A/U fan fic about a distant cousin being adopted by Integra. I want to publish it on tumblr and need some technical help. Unlike most of you, I'm an older lady who isn't as computer savvy as you younger folk.
I'm writing it on MS Word on my laptop. What software should I transfer it to, in order to publish online?
I'm a little old lady who was involved in the 1980's goth scene. I'm proof that goths don't age out. I would appreciate any advice you can give. The story is written as a first-person diary by the young cousin.
Hey there!
First and foremost, I just want to say how touched I am that you're asking me for advice because I'm certainly no authority on writing or publishing works. Still, I'll answer your question to the best of my ability.
There's nothing wrong with using Microsoft Word for literary works such as fanfiction. I think the best path forward when it comes to writing software is to simply use what you're most comfortable with. If you're only familiar with Microsoft Word, then use Microsoft Word. It's a tried and true software that I've used countless times myself, especially when I was in school and university.
However, if you want to explore other avenues for software, you may be familiar with Google Docs. This is what I use myself for writing my fanfiction. If you have a gmail account, you should have access to Google Drive which is the storage file that contains helpful utilities like Google Docs. If you do not have a gmail account and have some other kind of email, you can still use Google Drive. Here's a link to directions on how to use your existing email to create a Google Account.
Here are the icons for Google Drive and Google Docs, respectively:
To try and simplify, Drive is a folder and Docs is the document inside the folder. You'll also have access to other tools as well, but you don't have to worry about those; I'm just focusing on Docs.
I'll stop there because I don't wish to insult your intelligence in case you're already quite familiar with or have Google Docs. But if you're not and you need any more guidance, please do not hesitate to reach out again! You can even DM me if you so wish.
Other than Microsoft Word or Google Docs, I don't really use any other writing software. I invite anyone who uses any other writing software to reblog this post with their insight and/or advice.
As far as publishing your work goes, if you're to publishing your fanfiction on Tumblr, you should be able to copy and paste the diary entries from Microsoft Word or whatever software you're using into a post and do it that way. Some people get fancy with it, but it's absolutely not necessary; it's just a preference and for aesthetic reasons. Be sure to tag your post with #hellsing and #fanfiction at the very least!
I'm also going to mention Archive Of Our Own (AO3) here as well. You've probably heard of this site too. I've only been on it for...4 or 5 years? And I won't lie to you, learning how to properly format my chapters using AO3's post function took some time. But if you have any interest at all in trying to use AO3, send in another ask or DM me and I'll help you as much as I can. In the meantime, I hope that I at least provided some insight and gave you the answer you were looking for!
On a different note, this fanfiction of yours sounds really intriguing! You don't get that many dairy entry fanfics, especially in the Hellsing fandom. Is it related to how Bram Stoker wrote his dairy entries in Dracula by any chance?
I wish you well on writing this fanfiction! Be sure to send me another ask or shoot me a message when you do publish it!

it’s your birthday?
As luck would have it you once again find yourself in a breakout room with Harry
Word count: 3296
A/N: Hello friends, it’s a new semester and it felt only right to continue breakout room, a story that was well loved by you. The inspiration once again came to me during class and also because it’s Harry’s birthday. Thank you to the lovely @soullikestyles for reading this over. Here it is, enjoy!!!
I hope you love this, it is a continuation from Breakout Room
Please shoot me a message of what you thought!!!!
i love you, take care xx
_____
It's the start of a new semester. It's safe to say you did not make any friends last semester due to this ongoing pandemic, but what you did manage to get was a 3.9 G.P.A for the Fall semester. It was probably because you did not leave your apartment, and when you did, it was to go grocery shopping with your roommate, who would be dead without you because, as she liked to put it, you're the chef, and she's the taster.
Well, you maybe did make one friend.
Harry Styles.
He was the person to talk to you during a zoom breakout room in your women's gender studies course.
Sure, you were never in the same room again, but you might or might not have pinned his face during one of the professor's long ramblings that is no longer related to the course.
He was pretty to look at; you would never deny that.
No, with the floppy curls that he almost always seemed to run his hand through, then stopping when one of his rings got caught in a knotted ringlet. His camera would instantly turn off, and in thirty seconds, he was back as if nothing had happened. The glasses framed his face just right, making his eyes look soft and inviting. Also made his dimples stand out. He almost always wore a different colored cardigan. Your favorite from the semester was when he wore a multicolored cardigan. That looks like it was knitted; there was a hole by his heart. Honestly, you were hoping he had, would have made him even more endearing.
Also, might one day ask him to make you one, or he could even teach you. You're a fast learner and have patience.
He's got a great choice in clothing from what you was able to observe in such a short time—also a lovely personality.
After his initial email, you decided to answer, thus creating a chain of messages back and forth. He was honestly funny, and that was just on paper. He had asked for her number and said no, and he respected that. It doesn't mean they never helped each other in the class; Harry asking for more help than Y/N. She sent him over her notes and explained the readings he found harder to grasp.
As soon as finals week hit, she received her last email from him with the subject as Goodbye. It took you by surprise, and you erased the draft you had waiting for him that had your phone number wanting to keep talking to him. Still, clearly, he thought of them as just classmates for the semester, so without even opening his last email, you trashed it.
You felt guilty about it, so you then transferred it to your archives, where it sits with other unwanted emails.
_____
The holidays are over, and since you could not make the trip home, you celebrated with Amy, your roommate. You both help each other buy your family's presents, looking for the best discounts and adding extra items to get the free shipping. Together, well, mostly you as she handed you pieces of tape you wrapped present after present in brown wrapping paper. It was harder to tear and more comfortable to decorate in any way you wanted. On each box, it had everyone's name written in beautiful handwriting, courtesy of you. Then you would add snowflakes or stripes to make it stand out.
It was a success from their looks when each gift was open through the zoom call.
The month break flew by, and the next thing you knew, it was time to be back at your desk for hours of learning. It was fun until it wasn't sure there was a lot to look forward to, but you would miss sleeping all day and eating snacks in bed with no fear of forgetting to submit an assignment.
This semester you had four major courses. Psychology of Personality and Psychology of Aging were the two courses you were most looking forward to. You decided on taking the women's gender studies class called Politics of Sexuality. You had gotten the recommendation from the department's head to take it and did so without a second thought. Yes, fifteen units was a lot, but you were close to graduating, and you knew you could handle it.
The first week flew by because it was merely going over the syllabus. You had your camera on, but you did not bother to look at your other classmates. Sasha, a fellow person in your major, would be your study partner as she had been all semester. Sasha might not always be in the class section, but she did take the same professors and courses. It makes studying and taking notes easier. You know you won't always have Sasha, but having a study partner has ever made you do better.
February 1st. The start of the second week of the semester.
You woke up at seven, got the tea that Amy had ready for you, and were sitting at your desk by eight. Your professor droned on about the first chapter of the book. You felt confident knowing you understood the significant points.
It's 11:30, and your second course of the day is going to start. You were not looking forward to the class simply because Dr. Rossi had warned you he would be putting you into breakout rooms of two. That person would be your partner for the semester. You had a project due at the end of the semester, and he wanted you to be acquainted with someone rather than having a person working alone.
You sat there, Baby Yoda ceramic mug in hand, as you waited for your breakout room to load and to see who you were destined to work with for the next fourteen weeks.
There was a knock on your door that distracted you from seeing the video of someone else load.
"Sorry, I know you're in class, but I was wondering when lunch was to see how big of a snack I should have." Amy shoots you a small smile.
"No worries, Ames, I'm out at 12:45 and will need half an hour to cook, so roughly 1:30. Is that okay?" You tell her feeling a little awful, making her wait.
"It's perfect. Have a good class." Amy shuts the door.
As you hear the click, you turn back to your computer, and they're staring at you in a lavender cardigan with a white shirt underneath is the one and only Harry Styles.
His curls are shorter, meaning he recently got a haircut, and they are just growing back. You wished he had let it grow out, wanting to see how much more ruly they would have gotten.
You feel your face heat up, remembering you did not do your hair, instead of letting it sit messily in a low ponytail, small hair framing your hair. You were sure the black sweatshirt you had one had a hummus stain but too afraid to look down to check. You weren't even aware he was in this class; it shows you should be paying attention more to your classmates.
He shoots you a small smile, and you grimace, trying to force one out, but you're still a bit shocked.
You see his microphone go white, meaning he was about to speak. You leaned forward in anticipation, a bit desperate to hear his smooth accent through your computer speakers.
"Hello, it's been a while." Harry raises his glasses to hold back his hair.
You reach forward and unmute yourself. "Hello, Harry. It has been a while. It's a new year and everything." You joke.
He chuckles, scratching his chin. You aren't sure what to do; it was never this awkward the first time you chatted.
"Guess we're partners, huh."
"Apparently." You sigh, a bit loud, forgetting he can hear you.
"Ouch, don't need to sound too excited." He tells you not at all hiding his frown.
"No, I didn't." You stop not knowing how to go back from that. "Sorry, that was rude of me."
He nods, not saying anything more, and you take it as a sign to continue.
"I-i, well, after our last class ended, I figured that was that. You said goodbye in the last email, so I figured that was the end of our friendship, if you can even call it that."
"I thought my email would give the opposite impression, but not everything can translate as smoothly when talking." He tells you, which causes you to pause.
"Your email literally said goodbye," You blurt out before you can stop yourself.
He hides his smile, "My subject said goodbye, the content said quite the opposite. You did read it, right?"
You duck your head, not allowing yourself to meet his eye even through a computer screen, too embarrassed to be caught. "Well, no, I didn't. Hurt my feelings, just seeing the goodbye." You look up and see his eyes soften, giving you just a bit more courage to continue. "I've always struggled to make friends, I have like three good friends, and it's hard putting myself out there, and I didn't actually if you considered me a friend or not."
"Y/N" He breathes out your name.
You stop him before he can continue. "Do you mind if I read it now?"
Harry shakes his head.
You restore down the zoom and open up your Gmail on the split-screen. You find it reasonably quickly; you look up at him to see him patiently sitting back chipping at his nails. They are a pastel yellow; it makes you smile, knowing just yesterday you went from that color to a deep red.
Subject: Goodbye
Y/N,
It's been enjoyable emailing back and forth. I honestly would not have passed this class without you. I think you are brilliant and if I had you in every course, I would finish with A's in them all. So, thank you for having the patience to teach me.
Also, thank you for being my friend. I know we mostly talked about school work. Still, you did help me decide on what coat to buy for my sister, so I know that makes us friends, and I did help you get that switch for your little brother. (That was like trying to buy floor tickets for Lady Gaga.)
On another note, after emailing for twelve weeks, I was wondering if I could have your number. I would like the chance to give you a call and formally ask you on a date. I know we're in the middle of a pandemic, and dating is hard, but we can do zoom dates before we try in person.
I understand if it's a no, but I am really grateful to have met you.
Your friend (although I do want to try to be more)
Harry Styles
City Pointe Apt 32 (in case you want to send a care package, I would gladly return the favor)
"Oh, Harry," You inhale, "I'm so sorry."
"No worries." He shrugs.
You pause, thinking your next words. "I live in Rose Villa." Those were not the words you wanted to say, but you don't take it back.
"That's across the street from my building." He gasps. "We could have run into each other."
You nod. "Small world."
Harry brings his focus back to something you skipped over. "I realize you didn't mention the part of asking you on a date."
"Oh, I figured you over that now. It's been well over a month since I ignored your email." You grimace, starting to feel awful about it all over again.
"I guess it was email abandonment this time." He jokes.
You laugh, and it gets Harry laughing as well. He was always good at that, making you laugh and not be so serious even if he didn't know it.
"Y/N," Harry's voice was strong, no signs of laughter in his trace. You lock eyes as best you can through a computer screen. "I would still very much like to take you on a date."
A date with Harry.
You want to say yes, but it's like you're frozen.
"Can I say something else before you give me an answer?" You nod, waiting for him to go on. "Sarah Jones, do you know her?"
Sarah Jones, you rack your brain trying to place her.
The theater composer. She's written original tracks for the theatre department for the original plays they've done and remakes. She's won countless awards.
Sarah even won the talent show. Played a killer drum solo that no one else could ever think of topping.
If you're honest, she's the definition of your girl crush.
"We follow each other on social media. We met at a paint night; she was really easy to talk to." You tell him, remembering how sweet she was to you when she saw you walk in, and just as you were about to walk out, she introduced herself to you, asking to sit with you.
He nods. "Sarah is my roommate's girlfriend. Mitch and Sarah practically live together; he's so in love with her it truly is the sweetest thing. Back to the point, she overheard me talking about you to Mitch and spoke how she knew you. Then I proceeded to stalk your Instagram on her account. I hope that's not weird."
You laugh, and it causes Harry to calm down, "Not weird at all. I would have done the same thing, but as you can see, I rarely upload anything."
"Well, the things you do have, I think, are wonderful." He rambles on explaining how your beach photo on a bike with a pretty pink basket was one of his favorites and how cute you look wearing sweaters.
As endearing as Harry was being, you decided to put him out of his misery. "Harry," you interrupt.
"Yes."
"I'd love to go on a date with you."
"You would?" He gasps in surprise.
"Yes."
"That's fantastic. I think this is the best birthday gift I could have received." He tells you, but you're stuck on the last thing he said.
"It's your birthday?"
Harry smiles sheepishly. "Yes."
"Happy Birthday, Harry." You tell him softly, a big smile on your face.
A blush overtakes his face; you can tell he wishes to cover up his face with hands but holds back from doing so. "Thank you."
"Do you have any plans?"
"No, well. Mitch and Sarah are coming over for lunch in a bit. Then they are off to study at Sarah's for the week. Her roommates are gone for the week."
You frown, not liking that he'll spend the rest of his birthday alone.
"Would you-never mind" You stop yourself from being able to invite yourself over to celebrate with him?
"Hey, it's okay. Whatever you wanted to say, I wouldn't judge you, love." His voice was soft and reassuring.
"Well, I'd love to come over and hang out with you if that's okay. I can make us dinner, I make delicious enchiladas. Also, my carrot cake is to die for."
Harry is surprised at her offer but nods his head quickly. "That sounds wonderful, but you don't have to cook for me. We can order takeout."
She shakes her head. "Consider it my gift to you."
"Well, okay. Is six okay for you?" He bites his lip, not believing this is happening.
"Perfect."
You sit there smiling at each other.
When a message pops up overhead, "You have five minutes left before we join back as a group."
Your eyes go wide, having forgotten you were in class. "We didn't even discuss the assignment."
Harry shakes his head in laughter, a smile spreads over your face. He has an adorable laugh that just rings through your ears, and you can't wait to hear it in person.
"We've got time, now that it seems we'll be getting to know each other better."
You relax, settling a bit, you have weeks before the assignment is due.
"I'll email you my number, love. Easier to communicate for later."
"Sounds great." You respond.
_____
It's five-fifty, and you're standing outside his door. You're more than a little nervous. You're wearing high waisted jeans paired with a black off the shoulder top with floral embroidered sleeves. You decided against a sweater knowing the short walk would keep you warm enough. Your mask is red, with three small hearts stitched on the lower right side. Perfect for February.
You shift the items in your hand to the right and lift your hand up to knock. After three gentle knocks, you hear footsteps and take a step back.
"Hi," Harry breathes out, a big smile on his face.
"Hello, Harry, happy birthday."
"Thank you." He smiles wide, blessing you with his dimples. Definitely look better in person. "Please come in." He grabs some of the items from your hand and allows you to step in before locking the door behind you.
"Your mask is lovely. Did you make it?"
"I did!" You share excitedly. "My roommate, Amy, and I spent lots of our free time making a different kind. We took old shirts we no longer wanted and used for the material. It was a lot of trial and error, but we're pretty solid at it now. My embroidery could use some work, but I think it's lovely.
"It really is. Would you make me one?" He asks, staring at you as you pocket your mask. No longer needing it in his home.
"Yes, I'll send you pictures of the fabric I have, or you could come over, and I can teach you as well." You tell him, excited at the prospect.
"Sounds like a wonderful date." You nod, feeling your body get warm at the word date because today could also classify as a date.
Harry knocks you out of your head when calling your name. "Turned the oven on like you requested." He informs you.
"Thank you, my mom showed me how to make them, but I learned about the melted cheese on my own. She wasn't a big fan of it, but everyone else I know loves it, so I hope you will as well."
Harry grabs your hand and gives it a squeeze. "I'm sure it's wonderful." He bumps your shoulder gently. "Go finish up; I'll set the table."
He pushes you into the kitchen, and you go in and place your stuff. Harry is whistling, settling down on the table two glasses and two forks when you turn back around towards him.
Harry turns around just in time for you to wrap your hands around his waist. You fit perfectly in his arms, taking in his musky scent. "Happy birthday, Harry." You whisper against his chest.
He squeezes you tighter, leaning his head on top of yours. "Thank you, love."
He pulls back, holding you by your shoulders. A big smile on his face, you reciprocate it feeling his happiness warm your heart.
"Run along now; I'm starving." He jokes.
You walk backward, creating distance; as his left-hand trails down your right hand slowly until he's touching your fingertips, do you pull away. Although you, more than anything, wanted to hold his hand. You want to feel the weight of it in yours; you want to know if his hands are soft or calloused. How cool his rings will feel against your palm. All in due time.
"I'm happy to be here."
"Me too, love. Me too."
It's safe to say you were more than luckily going to have yourself a valentine for the first time in a long time.
