Infirmed 10-year-old girl Willow witnesses one night a month her mother whisking away her rather distant father into the dense woods deep within the English countryside.  When brought home the next day, her father must be helped carried in, appearing haggard and weak from his strange and mysteriously kept overnight departure far from home.  The…

Paramount Summer Classic Film Series-Blade Runner (1982)
I looked, and it is hard to believe, in the fourteen years I have been writing on this blog, there is not a post solely devoted to the movie “Blade Runner”. This film came out 42 years ago, and I saw it on opening night. I have seen it several more times on the big screen since then, but apparently not once in the last decade and a half. I do remember going to a screening at the Archlight in…

TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES II: THE SECRET OF THE OOZE
Tumblr media
MARCH 23rd 1991: My Reebok Pumps hit the pavement as i’m in full ninja mode jumping off the bus. The legendary Cinerama Theater in Hollywood, back in her isolated glory - The Archlight cinemas are fancy and gorgeous, but nostalgia is everything. A ginormous poster of our beloved four brothers confirms my reality even more, I begged my mama to bring me to the Cinerama Theater. In my little beautiful eyes the roof of the building looked like a giant turtle shell! The Turtles were meant to be seen on this stage, I researched the movie premiere location and found anchovies... so, I’m gonna go ahead and say the red carpet premier was held here too; I HAVE SPOKEN.
MARCH 20th 2020: “Who’s Jim Henson?” says my uncultured swine of a son Zim. Two seconds into this beloved sequel it provides a beautiful moment to teach the youth about film legends. So “In memory of Jim Henson” I hit pause on the old Netflix then shared some fond memories that Mr. Henson provided to millions of humans. Zim and I were about to create our own memories as this was his first time watching this film outside of memes. During the “Surfs Up” fight at the battle of T.G.R.I Labs, as Donny holds the final canister of ooze while “Surfing” on a standard office swivel chair. Donatello  realizes he’s about to wipe-out, CLOSE IN on his facial expressions because they are just that EXPRESSIONS. The delightful real-time dance between the actors in the turtle suits and the puppeteers masterfully crafting the faces and voices in cinematic wonderment that  my 11 year old-Gen-Z son was impressed to comment “Whoa, those eyes reactions tho”  In that moment he experienced for himself why Jim Henson and his whole team have earned icon status and why legacy must be passed on. IT IS THE WAY.
Just reading the title of the film, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: Secret of the Ooze, lets you know this is such a 90′s blockbuster sequel. The boom box banging soundtrack, the quick cuts of New Yorker’s and their mandatory pizza consumption, our protagonist pizza-boy asking out a bunch of lovely ladies and then when they says “In your dreams” he smirks and responds “Yeah, but when I do I’ll dream of something a little thinner!” to a group of girls who are all a size 6. [How many of you immediately pictured Stanley Tucci in The Devil Wears Prada mouthing “A Six”?] CATCHPHRASES within another CATCHPHRASE, On the money Humphrey Bogart impression slash homage, elaborate dance number with the White Hammer himself Vanilla Ice, a supersized part I Villain...  Like... the fucking 90′s, Dude. Our heroes make their 1st appearance via freeze frame with the FULL movie titles, the  same logo from the 80′s comics and cartoon show by the way (Almost impossible in today’s Hollywood) as the theme song kicks you in the face then does a nice little superhero landing. This film comes packed with valuable life lessons too. Raphael is stewing in his rage while his Bros watched the news, Mikey just CHOMPING on some jerky and chips, loud as ever, and Ralph passively aggressively "asking" him if he could to stop eating loudly.  OBVIOUSLY Mikey gets closer to chomp-chomp and nom-nom louder.
Tumblr media
I inform my little man I use to do this to his favorite Uncle Marcus and he yells out “You bullying bastard! How dare you?” As I explaining classic brotherly love he’s looking at me like i’m just saying “Well, it was the 90′s back then. Bullying hand’t been discovered yet” Once again, Like... the fucking 90′s, Dude. Then at the beginning of the first final battle (yeah 3 final battles in a 3rd act!) The Bros are too scared to take on the giant beasts coming at them outside of the club, they’re screaming out to each other:
“You take the ugly one!”
“NO. YOU take the ugly one!”
“I’LL TAKE THE UGLY ONE!”
“Which one is THE UGLY ONE!?!?!?!??”
We were learning Bro culture, always take one for the team Bro. Go Ninja! Go Ninja! GO! GO! GO! GO! I loved this film as a Six year old child, and I love this film as 35 year old man child.

I find the only way to complete a Christmas and a house brimming with friends and relatives – is to host a Brothers Trust event – three consecutive but staggered screenings of Tom’s new film, Spies in Disguise at the Archlight Cinema in Battersea, London.
We did make some tickets available for sale – snapped up in moments and had people travelling in from Miami, LA, Australia and China. All very welcome, lovely to see you and thank you for coming.
But predominantly, tickets had been given to children and their families who could use some excitement and respite from difficult circumstances and some pernicious medical conditions. It was our pleasure to welcome children from Momentum, Make a Wish, Great Ormond Street Hospital, Alex’s Wish and Debra of course for a chance to see the film and meet one of its voice stars. Tom, not Will and so Mrs H was less excited than some of the attendees.
An early start for us all and on the road for 7am.
Among the many jobs I am apportioned, my first task was to pick up Harry (on filming duties) and deliver him safely with equipment to the venue. Then I was to leave our car in the car park which was providing us with free spaces. But of course, I didn’t read this email and nor could I find this particular car park and instead I use my initiative and find a car park of my own and one with acres of spaces.
What could go wrong?
As soon as I grab my ticket and drive through the barrier, I realise my error.  The few cars already parked are all of a certain marque. Bentleys, Porsches, Aston Martins, Ferraris and just for today, a sole and errant, Mitsubishi. There is a reason why I have my pick of parking spaces to choose from.
It’s one of those London car parks that costs the earth but I have no time to worry about such things.  And how much can it be, really? I am only going to see Spies in Disguise and not Gandhi or Schindlers List. But then I recall, three times. Spies in Disguise, three times! And it occurs to me that my car might now even be a right off.
I put this out of my mind – easily done as the event unfurls and the glee of children’s faces is there for all to see. Kids who have come from all over the UK and with many setting out as early as 3am for trips to London and an appointment with Tom.
Tom introduced each film and then sat afterwards for a Q&A – which mainly focuses on Marvel and another character he currently plays – and then on to have a photo taken by Nikki and a chance for a quick chat.
The Brothers Trust might be a young endeavour but it has had a great year. Our biggest event for our two lucky winners in LA for the World premiere of Spider-Man Far From Home. The launch of our T-shirts (for Debra and their campaign #fightEB), the launch of our brotherstrustdogsclub with entry to this most exclusive club being only the purchase of one of our collars and much more planned for next year – kicking off with the re-publication of Open Links for Antony Nolan… a perfect way to round off such a busy year was this morning, in London, Tom’s hometown with a bunch of kids for a screening of a movie that I suspect many of them will never forget.
To end then with a big thank you to the Archlight Cinema for hosting us so kindly and for the second time. Brilliant cinema, lovely staff and a cool funky location but I’d take the train because some of the car parks in the area are so fuc…
Thanks to Disney for providing the films but also the back drop for the photos, not to mention the posters and toys for the goodie bags.
And finally to all the clever people behind the making of this great film, Spies in Disguise.
Some years back I was lucky enough to be in LA and catch a voice session that Tom recorded for the film. About four hours in length, it was remarkably physical and Tom was pretty much spent at the end. During the session, I was chatting with a lady from the studio – a senior person in the food chain and she explained to me the input that such films require…
600 people per day - for two years. Not to mention the work of the writer/s and directors many years predating this war effort.
But well worth it in this instance because Spies in Disguise is a lovely film. Funny, thrilling and poignant and a great way of keeping kids entertained and out of trouble while we wait for schools to kick back in.
Happy holidays everyone.
Thank you to all our supporters.
See you all on the other side in 2020…

Rob Cohen (The Fast and the Furious, XXX) is helming the adaptation, which could potentially lead to a franchise. The project has been in the works since 2009 by Archlight Films and Jeff Most Prods, the production company behind The Crow.

to the person asking about the probability of meeting a known person in LA, I once joined a random neighborhood book club that was advertised at my library and was shocked to discover how many known independent film and tv actors were in it. I was one of few non actors in it. Before covid I used to run into known people at the movie theater especially places like The New Bev and Archlight.
That is actually so cool!

Cognition Announced For VOD
Tumblr media
Cognition has been dated for VOD:
A ‘Talash Video Centre’ production in association with Digital Boulevard, Twelve Corner Productions & China House Arts, are proud to officially announce the international On-Demand release of the British short sci-fi drama ‘Cognition’ – starring Bafta Winner Andrew Scott (1917, Fleabag, Spectre) and Jeremy Irvine (War Horse, The Railway Man).
Following the rare privilege of a public premiere and a three-week cinema release at the Archlight Cinema, part of the iconic Battersea Power Station complex in London. The official multi-language international Video On Demand release will be available on iTunes, Amazon Prime Video, Google Play and YouTube Premium December 23rd 2020.
The English audio version will be accompanied by subtitles in Castilian, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish while being available in 92 Countries (English language VOD release was on October 30th 2020).
Cognition not only secured rare prime time coverage on BBC London News (BBC One), where it was described as a “short Feature with big production values”, but was also mentioned a record six times in one day. The coverage included interviews with the Producer / Director Ravi Ajit Chopra as well as with Jeremy Irvine.
Produced & Directed by Ravi Ajit Chopra, COGNITION is a short dystopian sci-fi drama / thriller about a son confronting his past.  Journeying through the symbolic landscape of the subconscious mind, the story follows an unbreakable bond between father and son…. a bond that transcends SPACE AND TIME…..
With key filming having taken place at the iconic Battersea Power Station in London, COGNITION was the last film to be shot at the Grade II* listed building during its huge redevelopment.  Filming was made possible with support from various BBC departments including use of the BBC News helicopter for breathtaking aerial shots, and a stunning orchestral score from the BBC’s 55 Piece Concert Orchestra, as recorded at Air Studios in London.
Rising Composer Samuel Karl Bohn composed the film score, renowned Production Designers Universal Creations (Star Wars, Guardians of the Galaxy) built key sets and props. Emmy award winning Supervising Sound Editor Stuart McCowan and his team produced a searing atmospheric soundtrack at Twickenham Film Studios with a Dolby Atmos print at Abbey Road Studios.  Various VFX companies including Emmy winning Peerless, Bandito Studios, Territory Studios and Foundry helped to complete the 350 VFX shots. Technicolor worked on the film from an early stage for a period of a year, and provided their visual wizardry on invisible VFX, grading and finish.
Director and producer Ravi Ajit Chopra said: “Cognition is a very personal film for me, I have always been fascinated with the inner workings of the mind, and what it means to confront your trauma / demons and follow your dreams….. I hope the audience will enjoy coming on this psychological rollercoaster ride.”

Is it the end for high heels?
Tumblr media
In January 2014, the late Karl Lagerfeld organized a Chanel haute couture show in the mythical "Cambon Club". Under the direction of Cara Delevingne, the models descended the grand staircase to the sound of a string orchestra, each wearing creations in gossamer, tweed or organza. So far, haute couture. The big difference? Each model's outfit was complemented by custom sneakers, each pair costing about 3,000 euros and requiring 30 hours of work. But while the choice of shoes may have raised eyebrows, it also represented a radical step.
The trainer was welcomed into the rarefied and glittering world of haute couture. It is no longer a functional item to be hastily removed for the office or a party, but a real luxury shoe approved by Chanel.
Five years later, the phenomenon of fashionable sneakers seems to have reached a point of no return. Since their release at Chanel, sneakers have become crazier, clumsier and - in many cases - more expensive. The more showy and clumsy they are, the better. According to fashion research platform Lyst, sneakers accounted for four of the top ten fashion items in the fourth quarter of 2018. While sports brands like Nike and Adidas were the first to see the possibilities of sneaker fashion, luxury homes quickly realized the potential - both in terms of style and results. And these brands are experts in creating an accessory to covet.
Instagram is flooded with influencers - including Gigi and Bella Hadid and Hailey Bieber - who all proudly wear tight sneakers, with cocktail dresses, jeans and a T-shirt. The favorites are the Louis Vuitton Archlights and Balenciaga Triple S, which both sell for between 600 and 1,000 pounds a pair, depending on the iteration.
Serena Williams even wore her sneakers at the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle under her Valentino dress, not to mention her own wedding party. While sneakers would never have been considered an appropriate ceremonial shoe only a decade ago, attitudes have changed considerably. Dress codes have, for the most part, relaxed, allowing coaches to thrive in the workplace, in tandem with city wear and sports and leisure clothing.
"Generation X and Generation Y have slowly moved away from the heels, abandoning the sexist and discriminatory idea that women should wear heels to the office," says Morgane Le Caer of Lyst. It is perhaps no coincidence that the rise of the trainer coincided with the fourth wave of feminism and a larger public discourse on non-binary gender identities. "Luxury sneakers are a sign of our time and an evolution towards a more inclusive way of dressing," agrees Lucia Savi, curator at the Victoria-Albert Museum.
If the high heel is a patriarchal tool designed to slow down a woman, the rise of the fashion trainer is the perfect replica. Does this mean the end of the heels? Not quite. Today, our relationship with vertiginous shoes remains a complicated source of feminist debate. Often, the symbolism of the high heel depends on context and personal opinion. "It's a shoe for when you're on, for ambition, for magazine covers, red carpets, awards ceremonies, boardrooms, courtrooms, parliament buildings and debate desks," Writes Summer Brennan in her Book High Heel, published in March. "Paradoxically - or perhaps not - according to the 150-year-old fetish industry, it has also been consistently seen as a shoe for sex," she adds.
The relationship between heels and power depends on historical time and place. In fact, they were originally worn to convey masculinity. The heel was introduced to Europe from Asia at the end of the 16th century and was originally worn by men for riding as the heel held the foot in the stirrup during the climb. Associated in the European spirit with the military strength of Persia, the heel was enthusiastically adopted by men, and was only worn later by women and children. Louis XIV, who ruled France from 1643 to 1715, was one of the first to influence the heel. His ornate shoes were unsuitable for any physical effort - thus underscoring his power status.
Today, in some industries, heels are still part of the women's dress code. In 2016, Nicola Thorp, a receptionist in the UK, was sent home because she refused to wear high heels. But the incident turned into a scandal, prompting more than 150,000 people to sign a petition calling for a law that would ban policies on their heels in the workplace, and therefore a British parliamentary inquiry into the codes sexist clothing. So far, the law has not been changed.
Heels also remain the standard dress code for women on the red carpet. The Cannes Film Festival suffered a setback in 2015 after it was revealed that women had been excluded from film screenings on the red carpet for flouting the single heel rule and wearing flat shoes encrusted with precious stones. Actors such as Emily Blunt and Benicio Del Toro have denounced the festival's tyrannical approach to fashion policing, and in 2018 Kristen Stewart ridiculed the rule by walking barefoot on the red carpet.
But the inconsistent nature of fashion trends means that once a trend is in the mainstream, the pendulum of taste oscillates in the opposite direction. The proliferation of sneakers certainly means that a heel revival is at hand. Not surprisingly, there are signs that fashion designers are moving away from the sneaker trend in the last few weeks of fashion. Demna Gvasalia, Balenciaga's creative director and the man who pioneered luxury dadtraining, did not include a single style of sneakers in her recent fall/winter collection for the fashion house.
While we are moving away from the trend of luxury trainers, Beth Goldstein, an analyst of footwear and fashion accessories at the NPD Group, says that accepting trainers in a formal setting is a sign of a long-term lifestyle change term for women. "I don't think it's a fad, it's been too long for that - consumers are prioritizing comfort for their busy lifestyle, and athletics as fashion continues to evolve. The growth trajectory will naturally slow down, but sneakers will remain the engine of the market." According to a 2018 study by Mintel, U.S. buyers aged 18 to 34 are the most likely to buy shoes because they are comfortable (37%).
"Comfort, functionality and interesting details are without a doubt the same as the feeling of dressing for others," says Natalie Kingham, Director of Fashion and Purchasing at Matches Fashion. "The flat shoe has gone further and further, whether it's a clompy boot, embellished, or a sportier version of the sandals." Kingham adds that even for customers who wear heels, the demand is for lower and more comfortable styles. "It's interesting to note that the majority of our heels business has grown to 90mm and less, and that many new shoe brands like Wandler, or those with a new creative direction like Bottega, don't have a heel over 90mm in the ur collection." A high-end shoe brand that Kingham favours is Gray Matters, which has low heels, "almost like a collector's interior with sculptural details such as spherical heels."
Savi thinks we'll never let off steam completely, but the relationship evolves. "The role that height has played in various cultures of the world goes back centuries, and I don't think it will fade quickly. The stiletto heel could turn into something else, where size will always play a role."
Men's heeled shoes have invaded the runways and red carpets in recent years
In recent years, men's heeled shoes have invaded runways and red carpets, giving an idea of how the company's relationship with heels could change again. Brands such as Gucci, Calvin Klein, Saint Laurent and Balenciaga feature heeled boots and shoes in their collections, often adding bold sequins or prints to models.
In 2018, Italian luxury designer Francesco Russo launched a line of genderless stilettos, available in Italian sizes from 35 to 45. "It's not a polemic, it's not political," the designer told Vogue. "It's just the way society moves forward." I think it is our duty as a people to produce products to meet the world." The limited edition collection has been so popular that it has become a permanent part of the brand's offering.
The Brooklyn-based Syro brand is another brand that upsets the traditional symbolism of heels. The company sells male-sized heels and boots to its male, trans and non-binary customers. The styles are chic and promote a fluid sense of style. The brand's stated manifesto is to promote 'diversity through visibility' and 'empowerment by the community'.
Maybe that's the point. Instead of banning high heels, they should be freed from the expectations and social norms imposed on gender. So they're just a pair of shoes. In the end, wearing them should be a matter of individual choice. After all, one person's patriarchal or physical oppression can be a powerful liberation for another.

New Yorkers strut street style
New Post has been published on http://newsintoday.info/2018/09/05/new-yorkers-strut-street-style/
New Yorkers strut street style
NEW YORK (Reuters) – New York City is one of the fashion capitals of the world and when it kicks off Fashion Week on September 6 stylists, buyers, fashion enthusiasts and celebrities will be keen to see what has been declared “in style” for the fall and winter seasons.
Fatou Jobe, 24, a model based in New York, poses for a portrait in the Manhattan borough of New York, U.S., September 3, 2018. REUTERS/Caitlin Ochs
Off the runway, however, a different story about what is fashionable will be told on the streets of Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens and the Bronx where vintage pieces, unique footwear and comfort are highly favored by people living in the city’s boroughs.
In Brooklyn, fashion is identity-driven and liberating, says actor Seth Hatch, who works at a Williamsburg thrift shop.
“Most recently I’ve been embracing a softer, more feminine side to my fashion,” said Hatch while sorting a rack of women’s dresses.
Abby Felix, a 23-year-old who works in fashion public relations, shops at retail stores such as ASOS.com and American Apparel as well as thrift shops to create a 90’s-inspired “eclectic” look. She says one reason for taking an off-beat approach to fashion is that mainstream designers are “starting to all look the same.”
“We have to find a new way to create again,” Felix said. “There’s not a lot of originality.”
In Queens, Priti Shercsan, a 31-year-old illustrator from Nepal who follows Nepalese-American fashion designer Prabal Gurung, says she does not pay attention to fashion trends.
Seth Hatch, 24, an actor who works at a thrift shop in Williamsburg, poses for a picture in the Brooklyn borough of New York, U.S., September 2, 2018. REUTERS/Caitlin Ochs
“It becomes a lot of waste,” Shercsan said. “You get to a point where it doesn’t matter and it’s more about being comfortable and having your own sense of personal style.”
MODISH IN PINK
To the untrained eye, Nia Indigo might look as if she left home wearing a night gown and sneakers, but her appearance is quite intentional.
The 23-year-old stylist’s affinity for mixing trendy high-end designer clothing with thrift shop finds led her onto a bustling Brooklyn street in a vibrant pink silk dress and Louis Vuitton Archlight sneakers that retail for more than $1,000.
“I love galleries … and I get inspiration from installations mostly,” Indigo explains while waiting with friends for a table at a popular brunch spot. “I like to look like walking art.”
Walking down a lower Manhattan street wearing a white collared blouse, blue jeans and pink suede heels, Kat McClanahan, 23, says she derives her fashion inspiration from film and television characters and music.
“Best way to describe my style: If Lou Reed ever had a daughter, it’d be me,” said McClanahan, a merchandising manager.

RECYLCING IN VOGUE
At Zero Waste Daniel, a unisex clothing store in Williamsburg that is the brainchild of Daniel Silverstein, clothes are eco-friendly and made from 100 percent scrap material. Silverstein says he aims to reduce textile pollution and raise awareness about the fast rate of consumption and waste of clothing that is driven by fashion trends.
“I try to make stuff that is wearable and comfortable, that you can wear around and really move in, that you can style in different ways and is versatile for your life without contributing to that issue,” Silverstein says while stitching T-shirts on a sewing machine.
In the Bronx, Diondre Cruz, 17, says he sets his style apart from “dressing regular” by tapping into the creativity of Japanese anime characters and rappers like Trippie Redd and A$AP Rocky.
“I’m not really big on New York Fashion Week. I kind of just do my own thing. I wear whatever I like,” Cruz said.
Along the Fordham Road shopping strip in the Bronx, Robert Norman, 37, wears an all-white, gothic and western inspired outfit while selling sunglasses on the street. He says a good look starts “from the ground up.”
“Your shoe game … that’s the foundation,” says Norman while giving a nod to his Versace-inspired white boots with gold charms. “If your shoes are all scuffed up it kills the whole thing. It does the heavy lifting.”
Although Fordham Road is not a runway, it is one of the streets New Yorkers strut in all their self-styled glory.
