I really enjoyed writing for Dazai; he holds a special place in my heart. 🩵 I also received a request about PM!Dazai’s ideal type, and I’ll post it someday. 🩵

Dazai’s ideal type

Dazai is a complex and enigmatic figure, who can be described as a romantic—though not in the conventional sense of actively seeking love and connection.

Instead, he romanticizes the idea of meaningful connections. What does this mean?

Dazai is known to suffer from depression and harbors a deep desire to end his life.

However, he doesn’t wish to do so alone. He fantasizes about dying with a “beautiful woman” in a double suicide, which is inherently romantic.

This desire echoes tragic love stories like Romeo and Juliet or Cleopatra and Mark Antony, where love and death are intertwined.

This suggests that Dazai may deeply fantasize about love and being loved—perhaps even yearning for someone who loves him so much that she would sacrifice her life for him.

But why would someone wish for a double suicide in the first place?

Dazai sees no purpose in life, a perspective not commonly shared by others.

This makes it likely that his ideal partner would be someone who not only values life but is also grateful for what she has—because Dazai is only truly comfortable when he is surrounded by such people as Atsushi, Kunikida, Chuuya (debatable), and even Sigma.

He needs to learn this perspective to find his own meaning in life.

She would possess a sweet, positive spirit but would still be able to fully grasp Dazai’s bleak outlook, his feelings, and his philosophy—or the lack thereof.

Dazai might be drawn to a partner who is calm, patient, and nurturing.

Given his often childish behavior, it’s possible that he never had the chance to experience love in a normal, healthy way during his childhood.

We know little about his upbringing, but it’s clear he lacks any emotional connection or attachment to his parents.

Dazai is deeply wounded, depressed, and feels empty—though the reasons remain unclear.

The only person Dazai has truly loved, and who loved him in return, seems to be Odasaku.

So what makes Odasaku so special? What traits does he possess that Dazai might seek in a partner?

Odasaku was always calm and patient with him, seeing through Dazai’s lifeless eyes and empty heart.

He recognized Dazai's pain, suggesting that “someone needs to rip that pain out of this child’s chest.”

What if Dazai's ideal partner is someone who embodies these comforting and meaningful qualities, loving him unconditionally?

I believe this to be the ultimate solution to many aspects that trouble Dazai.

Teenage Dazai, in particular, strikes me as more of a “puppy” than the “cat” he becomes as an adult—craving affection and warmth.

He needed someone who cared for him, and that someone was Odasaku. His partner should be able to do the same.

Dazai might love a calm partner who can handle his antics but also sees through them without violating his comfort zone or coping mechanisms.

She would understand his inner darkness but wouldn’t fear it—instead, she would embrace it with a loving demeanor.

She would be confident, but in a strangely shy and quiet way.

She would be someone who is at peace with herself, someone who is inspirational to others.

She would accept him as he is and believe in him, helping him to become the best version of himself.

This is why Dazai is so fond of Atsushi.

Atsushi is empathetic, having suffered himself, and he embraces Dazai with unconditional love.

If Dazai were to meet a woman who could offer the same understanding and compassion, it’s hard to see why he wouldn’t be saved.

Dazai feels responsible for Atsushi, and it gives his life a certain meaning he doesn’t truly grasp yet.

If he felt the same responsibility for someone much closer to his heart—his lover—it would have a profoundly positive effect on him.

Regarding physical traits, Dazai doesn’t seem overly concerned with them.

However, he has expressed a preference for “beautiful” women, as seen in his desire to commit double suicide with one.

While physical beauty might not be his top priority, he likely appreciates aesthetically pleasing women.

Dazai claims to like all women, but I can imagine him being drawn to a feminine, quiet, and insightful young woman.

This woman would possess an innate ability to sense others’ emotions and motivations, her sensitive and calm nature allowing her to do so effortlessly.

She would be observant, with her beauty often leading others, including Dazai, to underestimate her at first.

And yet, it would be as if she could read his mind and heart—something deeply uncomfortable for someone as guarded and inflexible with his own vulnerability as Dazai.

Interestingly, some of these traits might also make her an ideal partner for Fyodor.

However, while Dazai and Fyodor are alike in some aspects, they differ in others.

Fyodor’s ideal type might align with Dazai’s, but with less submissiveness and more approachability.

Does it ring? The drama that might approach?

Let me summarize: In terms of personality, Dazai has a soft spot for empathetic and loving people.

Therefore, he would undoubtedly adore a darling who is very empathetic, sensitive, and kind.

I don’t see him having a specific preference for body type—short, tall, curvy, or skinny; it doesn’t matter to him.

He will always find a way to appreciate your body in every sense, as this is simply part of who Dazai is. You shouldn’t be surprised by that.

I can see Dazai taking a liking to long hair (similar to Fyodor), as it emphasizes femininity.

He might particularly favor wavy or curly hair because it gives a more approachable, sweet, and innocent appearance compared to straight or short hair.

This style implies youth and an ethereal quality, which aligns perfectly with Dazai’s romanticism.

Skin color, as well as hair and eye color, wouldn’t matter to him at all.

In his mind, he would view you, his love, as aesthetically ethereal and one of a kind.

Your features would be etched into the canvas of his mind's eye, surrounded by fitting backgrounds and colors.

With you, he would find solace, love, and acceptance, as well as the meaning in life he has been desperately searching for.

You don’t need to match his intellect or mastermind abilities; he cherishes those around him who don’t possess these qualities, and he doesn’t look down on them.

What he needs is someone empathetic enough (like Oda [ in his case platonically]) to love him unconditionally and sincerely, without judging him—someone who would guide him to the light without expecting anything unnatural or selfish in return.

However, his darling would need to be mentally strong and willing to share his burdens.

This is difficult to do and would only work with true, pure love, which is why Dazai needs someone who loves him unconditionally.

I don’t see Dazai manipulating his darling because he doesn’t manipulate or control the people he cherishes. Instead, he trusts them.

This would be the case with his darling as well. He would trust her, and this trust would be a choice that greatly benefits his well-being.

You would need to bring brightness to his life—love, warmth, connection, and compassion—balancing out his dark inner world.

He would be astonished when he realizes how deeply you love him without being manipulated, how pure your feelings are, and how you seem to see his soul and accept him as he is (much like Fyodor).

Your dedication to helping him improve, because you see the light and potential in him, would touch him deeply.

To you, he is human, and you wish to help him see that too. He loves you for it, so, so much.

Once Dazai recognizes this, he would never, ever let you go.

He might fear losing you or worry that you deserve better, but he would be too selfish to let you be with anyone else.

This would make him fiercely protective of you, even as he tries to maintain his enigmatic self, playing it off with his usual clinginess.

But of course, you would see right through this and reassure him that you’ll always be there for him, protecting him from anyone and anything else, even from himself.

In return, he would protect you, love you, and obsess over you—affectionately.🩵

it must be why he packs dazai's lunch or invites him for breakfast

why he spends all night trying to perfect kyouka and kunikida's favorite dishes

or why he spent so long baking a funny looking cake that probably didn't taste too good but ranpo liked anyway

or why he keeps junichiro's favorite energy drinks in stock even though kyouka and him dont drink them

or why he learns all the cute food designs naomi eyes

or why he keeps an extra portion of everything to give to kenji

or why he brings the president tea in the morning

or why akutagawa knows that when he cant bring himself to eat -- too worried about what will happen if he runs out -- he can go to atsushi for a cup of tea now and meal later if he's up to it

I love sskk. I love how, the more they learn about each other and begin to understand each other, the more of Rashoman Akutagawa shares with Atsushi.

Because in season two, after their conversation and after they validate each other, that's the first time Akutagawa wraps Rashoman around Atsushi, but it's not full. It's not complete. He doesn't trust him with such a vulnerability yet, to give him everything. So he wraps part of his coat around Atsushi in order to defeat Fitzgerald. Because they begin to have a partial understanding of each other.

During the cannibalism arc, once again they're able to talk a bit more, in a non stressed environment, and it's definitely the longest civil conversation they've ever had with each other. And once again, during the fight, when Atsushi explains a bit more to Akutagawa why he fights, only then does Akutagawa fully wrap Rashoman around Atsushi...but here's the thing. It was in a situation where if he didn't, they both would have died. Akutagawa was sinking into the ground, there was nothing else he could do, so it's not like he was that much more vulnerable—still a huge deal, but now compare it to the fight with Fukuchi.

As Atsushi had noted, they would need complete trust for a surprise attack Fukuchi to have worked. This time, they're already willing to work together, but there's still a level of distrust, more on Atsushi's level. Akutagawa too, as he points out that he can only give him Rashoman in the right moment, because he'll be left completely vulnerable without it, especially against such a difficult foe. And in the moment they're running towards each other, going to "kill each other" Atsushi doesn't understand what Akutagawa has to gain from this, doesn't understand why Akutagawa would think it would bring him recognition. And it's in that moment, when he realizes that Akutagawa doesn't think that, in that moment they're able to have complete trust in each other, and Akutagawa puts Rashoman on Atsushi in a situation that leaves him extremely vulnerable and open to enemy attack. Akutagawa had to have full trust in Atsushi, and Atsushi in Akutagawa. The trust that they realized they understood each other enough to not kill each other.

So I can only wonder what's going to happen now, now they've moved another step forward in their understanding of each other. God I love them so much.

If his s/o used to be Fyodor’s ex, Atsushi will likely have mixed feelings about their relationship.

On one hand, he may be curious about the nature of their relationship and how it ended. He may also feel a hint of jealousy or insecurity, wondering if his s/o still harbors feelings for Fyodor or if they compare him to their former partner.

On the other hand, he may be understanding and supportive, willing to listen to his s/o and let them share their past experiences with him.

After the initial shock of learning that his s/o had a history with Fyodor, Atsushi’s relationship with them will likely become stronger and more trusting.

He will likely appreciate that they were able to share their past experiences with him and feel that they trust and care about him enough to be vulnerable with him.

This may lead to a deeper emotional connection between the two, and Atsushi may feel more secure in his relationship with his s/o now as a result.

He knew (as always) He wanted to use you because of that, but he finally fell for you.

Dazai is not the type to get jealous, but thinking about seeing you with Fyodor will put him on the edge. Dazai is extremely protective of you.

Sometimes... he feels like you might leave him for Fyodor...

He tries to be very loving, very caring and protective.

He has a soft spot for you,  he is very possessive and has trouble being without you.

He is also clingy,he is more physically affectionate than usual, he doesn't hesitate to shower you with.

[Chuuya]

Chuuya would absolutely flip out over the fact that you're Fyodor's ex (dramatic choke on his expensive wine),

he'd have a complete mental breakdown, he's already extremely jealous, but knowing that his dear y/n was with a person like Fyodor... beforehand would only make his jealousy go up through the roof.

He'd be on edge all the time, he'd be pretty clingy, very possessive, wouldn't allow you to be alone with Fyodor, ever!

Extremely wholesome and sweet, yet quite intense. He tends to get very over possessive and jealous over her to the point where he can seem pretty controlling, but his heart is in the right place, his clinginess and possessiveness just stem from his deep insecurities and fear of losing the person he cares about.

But... he's a big romantic, who goes through great lengths and makes many sacrifices to make you when it's needed.

[Akutagawa]

Well he would be very confused on how and why his s/o was Fyodor's Ex. Once he found out about it he'd probably try to figure out why they broke up and how long (or short) their relationship was.

He probably feels quite possessive, like he has a need of showing that now his s/o is his and not anybody else's and would be quite protective and a really jealous af.

After some time he'd probably still feel very possessive and protective, since they used to be with Fyodor.

He'd probably also be jealous as hell because why should his S/O stay with him when they also liked the rat man. (yeah he definitely calls him a rat man)

But his relationship with his S/O is overall not that bad, he's just very extra protective and clingy around them at times and also really really damn jealous.

[Tetchou]

He would be in complete shock to say the least. He would feel that his s/o betrayed him by even getting with someone as dangerous as Fyodor.

That would also make him have a strong dislike for Fyodor. If he ever meets Fyodor, he knows he won’t be able to stop himself from trying to kill the man.

If it is straight after he found out, then he’ll have a cold and distant attitude towards his s/o, not really wanting to look or talk to them as it only brought him pain.

If it is after the pain has gone down, he’ll be back to his usual, more warm and calm mood towards his s/o. Still a little colder than before, but he’s trying...

[Jouno]

Saigiku would constantly find himself comparing his s/o to Fyodor due to the thought of his s/o being previously together with him.

He would attempt to keep them close to him, refusing to let them leave his side for fear of them going back to Fyodor, to which he would get jealous.

As a result of these feelings, he would also act much more possessively and a bit more protective toward his s/o. As of now, his relationship with his s/o is more of a complicated, somewhat toxic dynamic.

Because of the feelings of jealousy, fear, and possessiveness, he has for his s/o, he can't help but act cold and snarky towards them while also keeping a careful eye on them, refusing to let them stray too far from him.

He wants to have them all to himself, which has made the relationship between them become strained.

His s/o, however, is not all that pleased at how the dynamic has changed between them.

[Nikolai]

Nikolai would be quite insecure and try to compete (and get the better of) Fyodor to prove that he's the better partner for his s/o.

Nikolai would also definitely act more clingy than usual and try to cling onto his s/o to make his claim and make sure his s/o was really his, and not still interested in Fyodor.

Nikolai's relationship with his s/o is probably pretty good. Nikolai's a very affectionate and caring person, so he tends to be quite loving towards his s/o.

He'd probably be quite jealous, but in a cute way (it's a lie, he really wants to tear Fyodor apart).

Nikolai is a very clingy person and probably wouldn't leave his s/o alone, wanting constant attention from them.

[Sigma]

Sigma knows that Fyodor used to have an ex. He also knows that Fyodor isn't the kind of man who ever had any romantic feelings.

Even though Sigma knows this, he still feels a pang of jealousy over the thought of his s/o and Fyodor being together at any point in the past.

Although he'll never admit it out loud, he always has that nagging feeling in the back of his head.

His relationship with his s/o is good, although he does still have a nagging feeling in the back of his mind about their former relationship with Fyodor.

He can't help but worry sometimes that if given the opportunity, y/n would choose Fyodor over him.

Even though he tries to push these thoughts aside, they still linger within him, and he has to work to suppress them. Despite this, he is genuinely happy being with his s/o and shows affection and love towards them.

Concept: Kenji is the one who finds Atsushi by the river.

Atsushi feels incredibly guilty for trying to rob a child but he’s desperate and tries anyway.

Kenji isn’t even mad about it.

He treats Atsushi to chazuke the moment he hears his tummy rumble. Atsushi’s greatful but feels kinda bad about it, especially with how much he’s eating.

Kenji waves off that concern and says it’s not nearly as much he eats. Which Atsushi is not sure is a joke or not. He asks how Kenji can afford that much food.

Leading into an explanation of the Agency.

The turning point is when Atsushi learns about the tiger. He wants to run out but seeing Kenji, this seemingly weak child going out to deal with this beast makes him hesitate.

So Atsushi sits and tells Kenji all he knows as a way to warn him. But Kenji (much like Dazai) takes it as an opportunity to have Atsushi join him in finding the tiger.

Which Atsushi can’t get himself to pass up.

There would also have been a detail that while Atsushi was eating and offered Kenji a bowl, Kenji would ultimately refuse it.

At the warehouse Kenji asks Atsushi if he really hates the tiger. Atsushi says he does without hesitation because the tiger has stolen everything from him.

Kenji’s smile that had been present all day drops for the first time. He tells Atsushi that he knows about hate like that.

Sharing the story of the day he lost his best friend to a mud slide.

The pain it caused him and the anger overtook him that day. The power in his hands as his world went dark with only the sound of distant screams to be heard.

Kenji asks Atsushi if this makes him a monster.

Atsushi, taken aback instantly says no. No because Kenji was hurting and scared, because he was alone and doing all he could to survive.

Kenji smiles, soft and kind.

And tells Atsushi he’s not one either.

Just as moonlight cuts through the window and engulfs him.

The tiger roars and it attacks and though Kenji fights back, it’s not to harm the beast. It’s to show that they are alike, a testament that is only proven to the tiger when Kenji presents it with a bowl of food.

Because you never hurt anyone did you? You only ever razed rice fields and ate chickens, you were just scared and hungry.

He slides the bowl over and backs away, letting his hands fall to his sides in surrender. The tiger watches him, carefully before devouring the meal.

Kenji sits a bit away, keeping the tiger in sight but giving them space.

Until he’s lightly headbutted on the shoulder and half the bowl is given to him. He laughs, thanking Atsushi and they eat together.

From afar Dazai smiles, turns around and walks away. Remarking to himself that his gift won’t be needed tonight.

chuuya knows he’s fucked up. he knows he can’t get back what he let go, that he’s already made his bed. but fuck, it hurts. but he refuses to let you know that because thats who he is. and your left seeing him everywhere- the dresses in the store windows, the puddles of rain on concrete, remnants of him in your shower and on your bed- memories of him embedded in your head and under your skin. marks from his passion left on your collarbone, his fingerprints still all over your heart. he claimed what was his forever and then left. and he knows that.

some nights you think of calling him, but sculpted a brick wall between you and the phone, cementing each brick together with your hurt. little do you know, chuuya thinks of calling you too, but he knows you won’t pick up.

THAT’S THE CLOSEST I’VE COME TO MY HEART EXPLODING…

atsushi simply couldn’t bare the thought of not being good enough for you. so he let things go before his heart could sink with the wreckage. he couldn’t handle anymore hurt after all thats happened- but he doesn’t know that he left that hurt with you instead. the anger, the confusion, the turmoil etches itself in your chest and tears through your ribs when you cry out alone. it wasn’t fair for him to leave the job of detective to you, to pick up the clues of your lost love and attempt to etch together a messy explanation. he said he didn’t want to hurt you. funny.

the biggest thing you’re left wondering is why? why did sweetest, most loving guy leave without a word? why did he do it so fast, so quickly, at the stroke of grace? why did the same hands that once handled your heart so delicately set it on fire and leave it to implode?

I WISH I COULD UN-RECALL HOW WE ALMOST HAD IT ALL…

there was no doubt in your mind that odasaku loved you. he loved you with every fibre of his being. he held you to his chest as close as possible. he laughed with you because only you could pull out the genuine joy and smiles from his soul. he danced with you in the living room to your favourite songs, swaying back in fourth with you barefoot on the ground. he kissed you like his lips were especially crafted to be pressed against you, your lips, your skin and your hands.

DID YOU SLEEP WITH A GUN UNDERNEATH OUR BED…

tachihara burned down every foundation of trust and security in your being. he was the most loyal and loving person you had ever met, one that promised his whole life and soul to be with you. you knew each other like no other, or so you thought. you learned about his betrayal, not just to you but to everyone. and all of a sudden, everything you knew came crashing down. the memories, the love, the loyalty- you had no idea what it was now. you scrubbed your body in the shower and washed the sheets over and over again- trying to get him off of you. you laid in the bed he once shared with you and wondered if you were just another step in his scheme.

was this planned? did he plan to break your heart? was crushing every single thing you’ve ever loved just another ruse? the only thing you knew was that you loved him.

HOW DARE YOU THINK ITS ROMANTIC LEAVING ME SAFE AND STRANDED…

kunikida wanted everything to stick to his ideals. he wanted to break your heart as softly and as kindly as he possibly could. he wanted to cushion your fall, to let you down assured. and he did just that. he left you safe, he left with you with a full explanation. he told you that he wanted you to move on without him, to live a bright beautiful life and be as happy as you possibly could. because kunikida knows that thats what you deserve.

but he was supposed to be there. thats all you can think as your stranded on your safe sanctuary that he left you on. he stranded you on an island with all you needed to survive- yet all you could think was the fact that he had actually left. it wasn’t supposed to end this way. you knew why. he explained everything to you. but the tears that rolled down your cheeks explained otherwise.

AND HIRE A PRIEST TO COME AND EXORCISE MY DEMONS…

the worst heartbreak of your entire life belonged to osamu dazai. you can still hear the screams, the cries that went down with the ship from that night. you can still feel his hands on your body, holding you to him while for the first time you saw him cry. you can still hear the shattering of the things you threw at him, telling him to get out but also not wanting him to leave. you remember the smell of him all over you, on your bed, your clothes, but also in your hair and even on your own skin. he haunted this place. his heart was still beating, lungs still breathing but osamu dazai died in your house. he died and his soul now haunts the place day and night, leaving no trace of your space untouched. it was a cruel goodbye.

osamu dazai died screaming. and now you wanted to as well.

I WONT CONFESS THAT I WAITED, BUT I LET THE LAMP BURN…

you held on to the idea that akutagawa would one day be ready for you. that he would set aside his grievances, his turmoil, the hurt in his lungs and the pain in his coat. you waited, and waited, and waited. waited for him to show up at your doorstep and embrace you, love you like you knew he could. you watched as the lamp flickered, as your skin wrinkled, as your hair turned grey and as the night sky watched over you for years. you should gave closed the window, turned out the light and slept. but you waited. you waited and hope that akutagawa would return. that he would one day love you like you loved him.

as you looked out to the stars, you prayed that he’d forgive you as you blew out the candle.

Chuuya is obvious because he doesn’t attempt to hide his feelings, even if he does hide the extent of them. He might be ready to burn the world down just to earn your favor but he couldn’t all his cards be put out on the table right away. There’s still a part of him that’s wary to let a person in so close, past the natural barrier that rises when you’ve lost too many people you’ve cared for in the best. He still saw you as different, as someone he’d enjoy sharing a vintage glass of wine with, who he could laugh with even if your teasing was a little too on point with the things he was serious about. He wanted to shower you in all things that were good, keeping you safe and protected despite his job being in detriment to that ideal.

Nakajima Atsushi:

Atsushi acts differently before and after he figured out he had feelings for you. Beforehand it might not be too obvious, as he was a naturally kind person and was easily flustered overall when anyone flirted with him. But you’re the first person he thinks of when given a choice on who to do a mission with, and if he had a free day where it’s completely up to him, his mind goes straight to you. After his crush is fully crystalized into his reality he can feel all the symptoms of it, his heart tightening in his chest, his sweat glands overworking, his face constantly burning when you’re around; it’s a much harder existence but knowing how he felt meant being able to plan his next steps, even if he might not know what those are.

Dazai Osamu:

Dazai is impossible to tell, even if you’re the person he’s dating and supposedly in love with. There had been a little red feathered birdy in your ear who had told you more than once that Dazai was a heart-breaker, and it was true that even during the ‘courting’ period he blatantly flirted with women in front of you. Yet there’s a side to him behind closed doors that showed you a tender love even he never knew he was capable of. He thought that even if he saw no future in this world, he struggled with both the thought of leaving you in it without him and leaving it without you. It might not ultimately change his mind but he does regard you as a gift that life gave him to show he made the right choice.

Edogawa Ranpo:

Ranpo is obvious purely because he makes it known that you’re taken by him, and has no care for proper etiquette when others are present. If he wants to be kissed or held then he’s going to make it known, even when you’re in the middle of a conversation or doing other tasks. You’ve learned to work around him at this point, one arm wrapped around him as he hugged into your side and the other continuing to write or dial a number or talk to who you needed to. In dangerous situations he’s a little more wary but he does have utter trust in you to do what’s right and, if you’re the fighting type, to have his back and keep him safe should things take a turn in a direction he didn’t foresee (which was a rarity).

Edgar Allan Poe:

Poe hoped he wasn’t obvious, but he was a little obvious. He tried to go out of his way to impress you; if you weren’t into mystery novels then he might have to take a side quest into figuring out a different type of gift to give, but he had confidence he could find something to get you connected. He talked about you a decent amount in his personal life, which is mostly to Ranpo as he didn’t casually talk to many others, but he doesn’t count the detective’s opinion for obvious reasons (and also it was brutal to be told his interest in you was almost to a pathetic level). He simply wanted to be around you as much as he could, in a peaceful environment where you could enjoy each other’s company and talk until the sun rose and fell again.

Sigma:

Sigma has at least an outward handle on his emotions, able to keep it together when he was around you but always overanalyzing your interactions once he was alone. He had even made a shorthand list of your known likes and dislikes before deciding that was an odd thing to do, though he could still recite some things you had told him from memory if prompted. He doesn’t know what it would be like to actually date you, if the things he’s dreaming off are just some foolish fairy tales or if life can really feel that much sweeter walking side-by-side with a person you loved. Sigma had decided long ago that he would take the risk, even if he couldn’t predict the outcome.

Okay, this is my way of coping with all my favorite characters losing the BSD tournament so quickly, I need to discuss the animals I think each Bungou Stray Dogs characters would get/be in a dif AU.

Armed Detective Agency:

Kunikida: He can get a fallow cockatiel. I think he would enjoy watching and learning about it, it would be “someone worth talking to” to him. Of course, Dazai would teach it all the profanity and false facts just to frustrate him. I think Kunikida would name it either something strangely cutesy for him or whatever the top pet bird name was that year.

Dazai: I think he would get a lizard. He dresses it up in little costumes and names it something oddly unsettling, leaving it places to spook the other Agency members. He got the lizard bandages to match his own. Maybe he would have a chameleon. I think he would like a chameleon. It would annoy him constantly and hide everywhere. It would be a pocket chameleon. He would let it ride around in his coat pocket.

Kenji: Obviously, I think Kenji would get along with lots of animals but I really think he would like a pet cow. He would take it on walks around town and try to get it to interact with the city dogs. The cow very much bothers Kunikida since it enjoys sleeping in front of where he needs to go to get to his desk. Kenji will sometimes nap with the cow in a sunny spot. He would name the cow after a flower or something.

Yosano: After some thought, I think a starfish would amuse her. She would have a large tank for it and it can grow back limbs sometimes, I believe she would find that interesting. Ranpo put some stickers on the tank once and she made him spend a good half hour peeling them all off, much to his dismay. She probably would pick a cool name.

Ranpo: He gets a cat, either a sleek black cat that chitters rather than meows or one of those cats with the flat-looking face that always look angry and it yowls like it has a fatal injury. It steals his snacks constantly and is very sneaky, it likes testing him to see if Ranpo can solve its little “crime scenes”. He would name it after one of his favorite snacks. Ranpo is the type of person to struggle coming up with a name so he uses things around him, but instead of seeing the stuff around him and realizing none of it is material for a cat’s name, he latches onto the first thing, which I refuse to believe wouldn’t be a fruity type of sweet and the cat would respond to this very happily.

Kyoka and Fukuzawa: I feel like a bunny is too obvious, it would be a bit sad if Kyoka wasn’t allowed to have a pet. They would try to get her one but even though she tried really hard, she physically could not handle having one. They got her a few fish though Ranpo’s cat ate them. Fukuzawa ended up getting a calico cat that he positively adores, he and Kyoka end up sharing the cat since the man feels a bit bad for her. They hang out in his office every now and than, just playing with the cat. It’s a good bonding moment. The calico is very sweet and demands attention, mostly at the worst times. I think Fukuzawa would’ve gotten the cat as a kitten and only rescued it a couple days prior to the Guild’s first introduction and the cat tried drinking their tea, and snuggling with them at crucial moments in the conversation. The calico may have bean named after a tea brand after that.

Atsushi: I put him off because I literally don’t know what to give him. He’s a were-tiger, he shouldn’t just get a tiger. It was suggested that he get a snake that he would name something cute but I think reptiles would creep him out. He can get a badger. It approached him one day and he doesn’t know how the hell to get rid of it. It’s like Poe’s relationship with Karl except the Badger is a tad more violent and Atsushi is more fearful towards the creature than fearful toward social interaction.

Junichiro Tanizaki: He can get a panda. I don’t know much about him but he looks like he would like pandas. Or a red panda. Something fluffy that he can share a meal with. He likes talking to it, he’s named it something cute and sweet.

Naomi Tanizaki and Kirako Haruno: I don’t know much about them either but they can have a nice fish tank down in their office. They saved Kyoka’s fish that survived Ranpo’s cat and started a nice tank. They try naming the fish when they get bored but always forget later or mix up the fish.

I didn’t mean to write this much but I also meant to write more, I’m not sure, I may be back later with more.

in both your art and fics you portray phoenix in such a lovely, raw, compelling way that i personally think the aa fandom could learn a lot from. there's so much consideration for canon and media analysis and i love the way a lot of these wholly subvert the sometimes frustrating tropes that stem from shoehorning characters into having certain traits due to which archetype they fit into "best." thank you so much, genuinely, for sharing your work!! they're always such a delight to see/read and i hope to have the courage you do to post what i want without fear of being bullied out of what was meant to be a fun creative space

Thank you bunches <3. My best advice is to talk like you're the only one in the fandom.

Writing from the standpoint as someone who's only (fully) seen the Phoenix Wright Trilogy.

I think a lot of people stop judging Phoenix at: “He's the player character and we're meant to project ourselves onto him.” And while that's true, there's a reason why he's so naturally relatable and a character within his own right. Unlike, say… BotW/TotK Link (because I'm currently playing it again), he has a discernable and distinct personality, based on Shu Takumi and how he would interact with the world and people of Ace Attorney. He's written to be the Straight Man in a world of Funny Men. He's the most normal guy in this world, but is still ready to believe in the occult/paranormal and other weird AA shit before he's given any evidence that it actually exists, because he is still a part of this world. He serves as an effective conduit between the player and the game and helps suspend the player’s .

These concepts of Phoenix being the Sun to Miles’s Moon, or the Dog to his Cat, the Sunshine to his Grump, only serve to water down and needlessly separate two characters that are, in my opinion, more compelling when their similarities are considered. Phoenix is a mean, bitter man who has insulted even his own friends. He makes morbid and downright weird jokes, gets insecure about his appearance, and rarely puts his hands on people. He's sly, cunning, and sharp. He's polite enough to people's faces, but is judgemental in his monologue. But in those monologues he also has moments of genuine empathy or sympathy for friends and strangers. Because despite low-key being a jackass, he's a ride or die for anyone who needs him. Most of all, he’s intuitive, and an amazing judge of character.

To compare him to Miles. Both lawyers are strong-willed and intelligent, with their main goal in their profession being to find the absolute truth. They both have the capacity to be assholes but try their best to show people they care, mostly through their actions. They'll put themselves in physical and occupational danger for each other and other people. They’re both reserved and don’t speak about themselves much, but both can carry conversations under the right circumstances. They have a deep respect and trust in one another. They both acknowledge and appreciate romance without explicitly stating that’s what they want for themselves. I would even go as far to say they're both equally married to their jobs.

But what makes them different is class and experience. Unlike Miles, Phoenix is a rookie who doesn’t have a (known, recent) family history in criminal law; Miles had Gregory. And wouldn't have the means to study law; Miles had Gregory, then von Karma. The people they are/were surrounded by are different too, with Phoenix befriending Maya and other poorer clients— people without power. Miles was associated with people like von Karma, Damon Gant, and Lana Skye, all very powerful people.

After all of his connections crumbled (except Franziska), Phoenix and Miles shared connections/friends, especially Maya, Larry and Gumshoe. However his class status never lowers to Phoenix’s, and Phoenix’s never rises to Miles’s. That’s partially because of Phoenix’s narrative role as the underdog, and partially because of the fact that he will always be paid less as a private defense attorney with few cases than the state-appointed prosecutor. 

Some smaller things they differ on: Miles lacks superstition (especially with spirit mediums because of his past). Where Phoenix is intuitive, Miles is logical. Phoenix is a lateral thinker and Miles is vertical. Miles is introverted and Phoenix… an ambivert.

I think the reason why Phoenix is so mischaracterized in fanon is one big thing: Subtlety. As I said at the beginning of this, Phoenix is written to be relatable. Therefore many of his character traits are subdued compared to characters like Maya, Miles, Franziska or Gumshoe. I need you to realize that Phoenix doesn't even laugh in the PWT. It's also why we have no backstory for him besides the class trial and Turnabout Memories. However the team speculates about his past, mostly describing him as an average, lower-middle class bachelor (with a dog??? I heard that once but can't find the interview so that's up in the air.). But for the most part they don't try to dictate what fans want to see in him. And despite Takumi's views that he might have studied sequential art or theater in college… Phoenix is only described in game as an “Art Student”. That is SO vague, he could've studied CHEMISTRY.

Ace Attorney canon is rich with characterization and I’ll always love it so much more than fanon. I hate how fanon makes Phoenix out to be incompetent, stupid, but cute and trying. That’s not him! I hate when people make him out to be just a complete asshole too! He’s just some dude! He’s a normal guy who was written in the 2000s! With disorders! And he’s Going Through It as we speak!

Funnily enough, I think the fact that Phoenix is so misunderstood and comes off as unlikeable to the audience the moment we’re not privy to his perspective is so fitting. What do you mean Beanix is too different from Phoenix? It’s still him!

All of Phoenix and Miles's connections should be clear to everyone. No need to explain. I also don't think there's much need to show that Phoenix and Miles trust and respect each other since it's literally the turning points of their relationship in JFA and T&T.

Narrative roles are difficult to explain without author's input, but easy to infer through analyzing all interactions between characters.

I CAN'T find the transcript for when you show Miles the picture of Dahlia but know that's what I'm referring to when I say Miles isn't superstitious. Phoenix and Miles have a conversation about spirit channeling being a sham.

Prompt: Atsushi is a tiger yokai that had been sealed into a tree and now is in a kind of weird love triangle with two of the port mafia’s most dangerous executives. 

Actual idea- 

I fell like a quick recap is in order but Atsushi is a tiger yokai who fell in love with an Oni, they lived a rather happy and peaceful life until some cowardly yokai decided to get rid of Atsushi so he wouldn’t have Arahbahki get revenge for their cruelty to the tiger. 

This plan back fires big time so that while Atsushi was sealed into a tree in a near death state his lover went mad with rage and basically obliterated the yokai population before dying himself. 

This gave humans the chance to become the ruling species and due to the influx of magic thanks to all the dead yokai, some humans started to gain abilities.

Later on Atsushi was accidentally unsealed from the tree by port mafia executive “demon prodigy” Osamu Dazai. 

Feeling a mixture of joy and gratitude to the human who unsealed him from his hell Atsushi wants to repay Dazai by offering both himself and his abilities for the human to use however he wishes. 

Granted the only thing is that Atsushi refuses to do is kill Dazai or let him die, which is very annoying for Dazai since his hobby is suicide. 

(Extra note but as an effect of being sealed for so long Atsushi’s lack of magic essentially makes him a ghost unless he puts in effort to keep his body stable. Doing things like healing, transforming, and regeneration takes energy that he regains via sleeping. Though the exceptions to the ghost thing are specific ability users like Dazai and Chuuya.)

Dazai keeps getting annoyed at Atsushi and Atsushi starts to learn how much of how his savior isn’t really a good man. 

It all comes to a point where Dazai complains about another failed attempt thanks to Atsushi, Atsushi kinda loses it for a second. 

When they return home to the shipping container and Atsushi pins Dazai down to the bed.

His usually vibrant gold and violet eyes look cold and lifeless as the tiger leans down close enough to Dazai’s face that he can feel his warm breath against his lips.

Atsushi: “Do you really want to die so badly, Dazai-san? I grant you death, make it quick and painless just as you desire.”

Dazai smirks and tries to move his arms but Atsushi’s grip is iron.

Dazai: “Ohh~ Not gunna lie that sounds very tempting Atsushi-kun~”

I can imagine Atsushi’s lips trembling slightly as he leans down and puts a clawed hand agains Dazai’s neck, letting his nails scrape against his skin drawing the a few drops of blood.

And Dazai shivers at the feeling when Atsushi leans to whisper into his ear.

Atsushi: “I understand that need, that desire to let everything fall away so you can feel peace. I wished for it too while I was sealed away. But I have a condition.” 

I can imagine Atsushi leaning down to lick away the blood, healing the wound in the process and Dazai swallows looking down at his little tiger. 

Dazai: “And what’s that condition kitten?”  

Dazai’s whispers and shivers at the responding kiss to his neck before Atsushi moves up to place another kiss on Dazai’s cheek.  The tiger now has his entire weight on Dazai, but curls up so his head is right above the human’s heart, listening to his fast thump thump thump.

Atsushi: “All I want is more time. For so long I was alone, trapped in my own mind with nothing but darkness. It was horrible, a hell that I thought I would never be able to escape. But you saved me.” 

I can imagine Atsushi looking up at Dazai with tired eyes and a sad smile, and Dazai he doesn’t want to see his tiger so broken.

Atsushi: “I-I’ll give you everything. My loyalty, my body, my ability. Everything, just please please wait. You brought me back into this world of light. Don’t abandon me when just being around you makes me want to live again.”

Atsushi cuddles in closer and Dazai can feel the wetness against his shirt. 

He sighs before wrapping his arms around the broken thing resting against him.

Dazai: “Your really not playing fair Atsushi-kun being so greedy~ But fine, I’ll wait.”

Atsushi looks up to him the spark in his eyes returning again as he smiles

Atsushi: “Thank you”

Dazai: “Yes yes, you can thank me later. Now can you please get off? As….exciting as this has been I still prefer women.”

Dazai blushes slightly as Atsushi’s just smiles at him before placing another chaste kiss at the corner of his mouth and snuggling more into his chest.

Atsushi: No, you’re too comfortable. Besides if gender is the issue then I’ll just transform when I have more energy.

Dazai still blushing at the kiss before registering what Atsushi said

Dazai:……wait what?!

Atsushi just snuggles closer ignoring Dazai’s bi-panic

(And yes Dazai did think Atsushi pinning him down and licking his blood was sexy as hell. This is where he begins to question his sexuality because of his sexy tiger boy.)

Over time both Atsushi and Dazai grow closer as their lives become more domestic.

He’s amused by Dazai’s childish antics.

Exasperated when the man pushes his paperwork onto him (steep learning curve given that Dazai had to teach him how to do said paperwork).

And he want to bite him whenever the man flirts with a random women in front of him.

(He does end up nipping Dazai a few times and refusing to heal him no matter how much the human complains about it. Which is a bluff Dazai learns that he does have a biting kink lol.)

He knows that Dazai can be cruel and calculating, he knows that his human probably doesn’t really care about him. That he is just using him for his abilities and the fact that Atsushi will attack anyone that harms him.

It hurts a little but Atsushi accepts this.

He finds himself loving his Dazai, faults and all and even if his feelings are unrequited he is content. 

He starts to find peace in this new life, he still mourns the loss of his old life and love but is also finding happiness in his new routines with the mafioso. 

But then Dazai gets assigned a mission by his “boss”, and Dazai brings him along and complains all about a “slug”.

Atsushi is amused, walking along side Dazai invisibly smiling while listening to his silly human rant about his co-worker. 

It’s cute and makes Atsushi curious about who could’ve made his usually calm and composed human so irate. 

He stifles a giggle as Dazai starts talking about how he shouldn’t get too close to the “slug”.

How he is too good and that the slug shouldn’t be able to see his adorable kitten. 

Atsushi can feel himself blush at the smile that Dazai directed at him.  

Even if Dazai was just teasing him he couldn’t help but feel his heart beat faster at his beloved human’s claim.

They continue to talk about the details of the mission and how as per usual Atsushi shouldn’t reveal himself unless absolutely necessary.

It’s simple, normal for the two of them, a conversation that they’ve had many times. 

But then they turn around the corner and Atsushi stops frozen in his tracks as his entire world comes crashing down.

He see’s a familiar figure. 

The short stature, long orange hair, a beautiful face with dark blue eyes that matched the deepest of oceans. 

The presence of a man that has power and he knows it. 

Then the man turns to face them and Atsushi’s heart races cause he knows that smirk. 

He’s seen it a million times on a man who made him promises laced with love, safety, and a life together that never came to pass. 

A life that while sealed in that tree he thought was nothing but wishful thinking instead of memory

He doesn’t notice when he starts to run.

He doesn’t hear Dazai startled yell.

He doesn’t notice that the man actually see’s him even and looks just as shocked as him.

All he can feel is the magic running through his veins, giving all of his energy into making him as corporeal as possible because he needs to know. 

He needs to make sure the man isn’t an illusion.

And as he crashes into the man’s chest he feels that familiar warmth, the power once used to crush enemies so long ago surrounds him but he doesn’t feel heavy.

It’s not malicious, its welcoming, as if embracing him back.

It’s comforting in its familiarity and Atsushi can’t help but smile as tears start to spill from his eyes. 

A new warmth filling his heart as a joy rivaling when he was released from his seal.

And he snuggles closer to the stiff body underneath him, clutching onto the man like his life depends on it.

He can hear a strong heart beat and he smiles knowing that this is real.

Smell the familiar scent of flames and storms underneath the atrocious “cologne” that modern humans use. 

He is real. 

His beloved..

He smiles wide as he whispers 

Atsushi: “Arahbahki~”

He feels the man stiffen further but still doesn’t move away but instead moves closer brushing his lips against his beloved’s neck as more tears roll down his cheeks. 

Atsushi: “My dear Anata. My beloved Oni, you live. You live! My Anata! My dear love you live!” 

He’s shaking as tears start to turn to full on sobs, he can feel his grip tightening and feels his Anata flinch. But pays to mind to that as joy and pain start to mix into his chest.

Atsushi: “I’m so sorry love. I-i should have b-been stronger. T-th-they tr-ticked me. I -I was so stupid s-so so scared. I-i called! I called for you! I-i thought- hic -I wouldn’t- hic. Oh Anata!” 

He wants to feel his Anata hug him back, to hear his voice call him his beautiful Byakko once more, to have his love kiss his tears away like so long ago.

But it doesn’t happen. 

Instead he feels his Anata push against him, he looks up confused and lets out a broken whine when he doesn’t see his beloved’s usual warm playful look. 

Instead he see’s suspicion, even outright hostility.  

Cold eyes devoid of the love he so desparately craved for centuries showed no recognition.

And Atsushi could feel his heart break all over again.

Familiar arms wrap behind him and he starts to struggle, to cling onto his beloved. 

“Why’s he glaring at me? Does he hate me? Anata I’m sorry I’m sorry I’m sorry! Please don’t hate me!”

He gives a broken cry when he is finally pulled off and is ready to claw at the interrupter until he hears a  Dazai’s cold voice.

Dazai: “Slug I’m gonna need you to give me a moment.” 

He watches as his love just stand up and dusts himself off looking before glaring at Dazai. 

Chuuya: “Fine, but your gonna explain what the hell is going on!”

He feels he feels a whine build in his throat when his Anata doesn’t even look at him and then lets out a pitiful broken noise when he feels Dazai turn him around and start walking away from his beloved. 

Dazai: “Oh my poor kitten, you really do have the worst luck.”

And Atsushi can only whine, even though he feels Dazai’s arms around him his heart break still breaks as the distance between him and his Anata grows once more.

After this incident we begin the DazAtsuYa!

Essentially Dazai takes Atsushi a little bit away and gives the bare basics of Chuuya’s back story to him.

How Chuuya was an expriement and is 100% human and that what he senses as “Arahbahki” is just a non-sentient power.

His love isn’t back, it’s just Chuuya. A human that has Arahbahki’s power sealed within him and nothing more.

This of course horrifies Atsushi on a lot of ways. 

The idea that humans could do that to their own.

How he can now “see” his beloved but it’s only a body similar to him, the person “Chuuya-san” is a complete stranger. 

And Atsushi just is so broken after this, because he was starting to heal. 

After being sealed away for centuries waiting for someone to release him and then seeing how long he was sealed away he accepted that Arahbahki had died. 

But now he learns that some part of his beloved is still alive just sealed away?

No thoughts, no memories, just pure rage and destruction?

It devastates him. 

So Atsushi after learning all this information assumedly while Dazai is still holding him slumps before changing his form again. 

He doesn’t want to be human, he doesn’t want to be seen, he’s too tired and too hurt to keep it up.

So he shrink’s down, shrinks, and shrinks until he’s nothing more than a tiger the size of a small cat clinging onto Dazai in his grief. 

And Dazai sighs holding his kitten closer, petting him, and telling him that he has him.

That he won’t let Atsushi go.

But moving on after that Dazai still has a job with Chuuya and he can’t just leave because of Atsushi.

So with a sigh to himself he holds a vulnerable Atsushi close to his chest making sure to cover his little ghost tiger in his jacket. Not wanting Chuuya to see him nor for Atsushi to see the slug.

And he sighs because he’s feeling so much right now.

He’s worried for his usually optimistic tiger.

Atsushi always held such joy and curiosity in the world as soon as he was unsealed, even when he told Atsushi that Yokai are nothing but legends he didn’t have such a reaction. 

Sure there was grief but also an acceptance, a gratefulness for life that Dazai couldn’t help but be jealous of. 

But now Atsushi’s eyes seem just as lifeless as his own, and its all because of that damn slug!

And that is another thing!

Apparently “Arahbahki” wasn’t always just a bunch of energy, “it” was once an extremely powerful Oni Yokai that was also apparently married to Atsushi.

Seriously! The slug has to look exactly like Atsushi’s long dead husband!

And now he has to explain what’s going on to that Slug even though he really really doesn’t want to.

He wanted to keep Atsushi’s existence a secret in the first place but now that plan has went to shit and his fierce tiger has become a depressed little kitten. 

But Dazai just sighs holding Atsushi closer when he gives another whimper feeling the tigers dig ever so slightly into his shirt. 

*”Let’s just get this over with.”*

Meanwhile Chuuya is so confused when Dazai comes back. 

He was suddenly attacked by some random cosplayer who kept on calling him “Anata” and was crying nonsense to him. 

But what shocked him was that even though he commanded his ability to go around the guy his gravity didn’t change. 

His usual perfect control seemed to be lost as soon as the guy touched him. 

And when Dazai got the guy off of him he didn’t fail to notice that the moving ears and tail didn’t go anywhere either.

Was this guy also immune to Dazai’s ability? Did his ability just mess with other abilities? No, Dazai’s ability is absolute. Then what the hell?!

Then when Dazai (who looks incredibly pissed off) comes back not with the guy but instead of a little tiger cub everything gets worse. 

Dazai must have finally went mad.

Cause what do you mean he unsealed the last Yokai spirit? 

What do you mean he’s been sealed away for centuries?

What do you mean the tiger swore his loyalty and life to you to repay that debt!

And what the fuck do you mean he was married to Arahbahki and is depressed cause I look like his dead husband! 

Just the FUCK!

Dazai and Chuuya still get the job done of course. 

Atsushi briefly transforms into a giant tiger to protect Dazai.

And Chuuya is in awe because crap that is a magical fucking tiger!

The cosplayer is actually a real magical fucking tiger and Dazai wasn’t just messing with him.

…..oh shit Dazai wasn’t messing with him. 

And Dazai just watches all these emotions cross Chuuya’s face while seeing how twitchy his fingers are while looking at Atsushi. 

And he smirks pulling his sad little tiger closer to his chest. 

Dazai: What’s the matter slug? Jealous?~

 And for a moment Chuuya has the intense urge to punch Dazai in the face and grab the cat.

But instead he flips him off. 

Chuuya: Screw you, you suicidal bastard. I just feel bad for the cat you somehow tricked into liking you.

And Dazai snorts and makes a joke at Chuuya’s expense to try and cheer Atsushi up, but he end up frowning cause Atsushi doesn’t act exasperated with antics as usual.

Just his little kitten snuggling closer into his neck, like he’s trying to hide from the world.

After the mission is a rough couple weeks.

Once Dazai returns home Atsushi essentially escaped under their bed, stays in tiger cub form, and essentially acts like a depressed cat. 

And Dazai tries take care of Atsushi because he doesn’t know how to comfort him. 

He brings him his favorite food. 

Gets more pillows and blankets to make him comfortable. 

Holds him and shows him pictures of places all around the world to spark that childish wonder again.

He just wants Atsushi to smile again. To walk with him, playfully nip at him, and scold him for not being careful And I just imagine Dazai just petting Atsushi while reminding him of Atsushi’s promise. That Atsushi promised him his “everything”. 

That all Dazai wants right now is to see his Tiger smile again. And maybe that little talk mixed with everything else encourages Atsushi to eat that Chazuke. ——————————————————————————— Meanwhile Chuuya actually starts to dream which freaks him the F out since he’s never had dreams before. 

And they all relates back to the tiger  (who he learns through the dreams is named “Atsushi”)

It’s so weird because he see’s a younger, thinner, and more snappy version of Atsushi wearing nothing but a thin raggedy kimono. 

He see’s the tiger come to him and try to stay by his side even when his “dream” self was an ass. 

Sometimes they eat together, joke together, laugh, and cry together. 

It’s like seeing a life time happen right before his eyes. 

He see’s himself taking Atsushi’s hand, kissing it, and watching the tiger blush.

He see’s how Atsushi would hold heal  him and then smile at him so happily before curling up to his side to snuggle up to him. 

He see’s himself taking a kiss from the tiger and how his gorgeous twighlight eyes widen in surprise before returning the kiss just as hard. 

Chuuya even has a particular dream of holding Atsushi in his arms and well lets just things get a bit *spicy*~ 

They would talk of love, of marriage, of having a family together, of Atsushi carrying a child. 

His child. 

Chuuya can admit these dreams were rather embarrassing though it did make him curious about the tiger in Dazai’s possession.

But he refrained, the tiger was already freaked out by seeing him, didn’t want to traumatize the guy even more if this wasn’t just his messed up brain imagining things cause he finds the tiger attractive.

(Side note there are a lot of sexy dreams lol)

And then the nightmare happens. 

A nightmare where he can’t find his *”beautiful Byakko”*

 He see’s himself searching, yelling out for him, and then panicking cause he can’t find him!

Why can’t he find him?

Where is he?!?

And he finds the trail and follows it.

He finds torn bloody cloth from Atsushi’s favorite kimono.

And as he goes further he finds a tree splattered with too much blood and a sickening feeling in his gut.

Because he knows his beloved is gone. 

He’s gone…

He’s gone and someone hurt him!

Someone killed his beloved!

His sweet, kind, and beautiful Byakko.

 His adorable tiger who hated fighting and killing, who would rather heal and gather herbs to impress him with. 

His beloved Atsushi who would hold him in his arms and against his chest without fear of the “monster amongst monster” ripping his heart out.

Who was the first person to give him words of love and acceptance. 

His wife, the man he had planned to spend the rest of his life with protecting and providing for, the one who was going to bear his child, is dead. 

Probably died terrified, alone, calling for him in hopes of rescue. 

All in vain. 

*“He’s sorry, oh dear beloved nonono, I should have protected you. Why wasn’t I there! How could I fail you! Who the FUCK did this to you! I’LL KILLE’M KILL’EM KILL KILL KILL!”*

Chuuya has felt pain before but nothing so intense as that all encompassing as the SORROW and HATERED that made his insides burn.

Then he wakes up and Chuuya feels like he’s going mad because this isn’t him! 

These aren’t his memories or his feelings! 

And he only has one way to get his answers and move on from all of these horrible feelings and memories. 

So in Chuuya like fashion rips the doors off of Dazai shipping container to find the bastard petting the tiger cub underneath the bed. 

Of course Dazai complains about this but Chuuya just continues on his way. 

Chuuya rolls his eyes Chuuya: Oh please you probably have a million other backup places just as shitty as this one.

 He then makes his way past Dazai and gets on the floor to see a sufficiently spooked tiny tiger underneath the bed.

 I could imagine his eye softening as he tries to speak gently.

 Chuuya: Alright so…I need to talk to you about a lot of things right now. So I would really appreciate it if you could come out Atsushi.

 And I could imagine both Dazai’s and Atsushi’s eyes widening. Because Dazai never told Chuuya Atsushi’s name.

After this I can imagine Atsushi reluctantly agree’s to talk but keeps himself behind Dazai because looking at Chuuya right now is just way too painful.

He explains his story. About how “Byakko” or a white tiger yokai were hated and hunted because they were healers and their bodies could be used for potent medicines. 

How he met Arahbahki and fell in love. 

How they had planned to have a child but it required him to store a lot of energy to change his form so it could have the baby.

How because of that when the other yokai tricked him he couldn’t truly defend himself. 

How he was sealed away until Dazai came into the picture. 

And Dazai and Chuuya are kinda horrified by how painful Atsushi’s story is. 

But Atsushi just smiles bitterly and shakes his head because there is nothing he can do and how talking about it helped with the grief somewhat. 

(After hearing all this Chuuya doesn’t ask more about the dreams since he doesn’t want to hurt the tiger even more)

From there on Atsushi leans against Dazai before apologizing to Chuuya, for treating him like someone else. That if possibly he would like to become friends and if that is too much then at least get along since Dazai and Chuuya are work partners. 

You know just being sweet. 

And Chuuya, well Chuuya is sufficiently charmed by this sweet little tiger and Dazai starts getting jealous. 

Because like hell is he letting the slug steal his tiger!

The rest of the story would be about Atsushi and Chuuya slowly befriending each other.

(Granted Chuuya is constantly fighting the urge to kiss, hug, and even bite the tiger amongst other things lol) 

And a part of Atsushi does fall in love with Chuuya as well but denies himself because he promised his all to Dazai

Meanwhile Dazai gets closer of their budding relationship and constantly tries to separate them as much as possible. 

It all comes to ahead when Dazai and Chuuya get sent to a mission where “Corruption would have to be used. 

Dazai specifically told Atsushi he wasn’t allowed to join but still does anyways because he doesn’t want to see his two precious people hurt. 

Then he see’s Chuuya’s corrupted form and moves without a second of hesitation.

I can imagine Atsushi running towards a corrupted Chuuya who is screaming in pain and rage.

 Of Dazai trying to stop him because he doesn't want the gravitons to destroy his tiger. 

But then Atsushi embraces Chuuya, and this corrupted Chuuya doesn't move away. Still out of his mind Atsushi lifts Chuuya's face and those pupiless eyes are crying as if something deep inside of Chuuya's corrupted state recognizes the tiger.

 And Atsushi smiles gently cupping Chuuya's cheek in his hand, he's crying but his expression is so full of love and sadness. And Chuuya, still in his corrupted state, hugs Atsushi for dear life bites him in the neck which hurts but thats fine to Atsushi. It’s familiar and in a way comforting and Atsushi cradles him while using his power to heal Chuuya's body. 

In the end Atsushi is just holding a peacfully sleeping Chuuya while Dazai is left flabbergasted about what he had just witnessed.

Dazai and Chuuya still get jealous of each other and of course fuck up trying to force Atsushi to choose.

Chuuya wants him but Atsushi is adamant on not betraying Dazai.

And Dazai says some particular horrible things about “never should’ve released you in the first place if I knew you were going to be so much trouble.” 

(Which he regrets immediately after seeing how heartbroken Atsushi looks before running away from him. )

It all ends up with Dazai and Chuuya compromising because they love Atsushi and don’t want him to constantly feel miserable because of their feelings for him. 

Atsushi is their tiger, and they are his humans~ 

What more can I say?

Those traumatised cat learns to trust people again stories except it’s Atsushi with the Agency. Because he is part tiger and he’s never known kindness in his life before them.

Keeping his distance when all he wants is companionship. Ready to run or right the moment he feels threatened.

And the Agency meeting him half way. Letting Atsushi know through their actions that they won’t hurt him. Kunikida leaving his notebook on Atsushi’s desk when he doesn’t need it.

Dazai never approaches Atsushi from behind and has his hands in view. Yosano keeps her tools in her office. All in an effort to make themselves look non threatening.

They gave him space while letting him choose whether to participate or not. Never making him pressured to join in. Kenji leaves some leftovers nearby and cheerily takes them saying he’ll eat them later when Atsushi doesn’t touch them.

Atsushi is able to explore the office and the dorms to get comfortable with his new home. He spends most of his time observing everyone and calculating their movements.

Letting him try and figure out why they’re doing all of this.

Dazai even naps in the office citing it’s to show Atsushi he feels safe enough to sleep near him (and it pisses off Kunikida so double win.) Atsushi tends to only get close and sit silently beside one of them if they’re asleep.

Because he knows for certain they can’t hurt him then.

The day when Atsushi goes to them, moves his desk closer and asks questions everyone shares a secret smile. They hold Atsushi’s fragile new trust in their hands and swear to never break it.

Sometimes I just love to read a happy sskk fic

Like, I love when their relationship is angsty or messy or complicated, because that is how it is! But sometimes the hurt gets too painful and I adore how tragic they are but I need happiness

Sskk may not be the softest ship, but it's so refreshing to just read a fic where things are...peaceful. There's no miscommunication, there's no death, there's no tears or despair. It's the aftermath, where Atsushi and Akutagawa have learned to love each other without fear

Where they're together and they're happy, where they can wake up next to each other and walk around the city together and give each other goodbye kisses that aren't actually goodbye

When everything's okay

And sometimes, things are so happy it makes you sad anyway. It makes you sad that Sskk is happy together because you know it isn't true, so while it soothes your soul with the fortune, it also reminds you of canon Sskk and how many doors that they can't walk through

I truly do love the heavy, angsty Sskk fics with all the heartbreak and anguish and forbidden, confusing love that they have with each other. But the fics where they're together, and they have sweet nothings shared between each other is also so wonderful, where things are soft and magical and it's all okay still have a place in my heart

I love the perspectives of their relationship from both sides
