TIME FOR RETIREMENT!

Quite a few of our horses has been retired from shows this month, staring with BOE Mexico Nightmare. This prima Oldenburg mare has been doing quite well in Show Jumping, and also fine in Dressage too. With 42 points in Show Jumping T-Shows. 43 points in Show Jumping, 48 points in Dressage and 65 points in Sportshorse in R-Shows - she has definitely earned her retirement!

The best children's pony in the world has also reached retirement age! BOE Sunny Day aka. Sunny has been the first pony for almost all of our children, and has taught them to ride and love horses. She has been competing in Pony (181 points), Pony Show Jumping (186 points) and Driving (190 points) with the kids, and has had a lot of fun!

With her she takes the titles of The Golden Pony, Nuage and Tandem Champion.

Opaline HF aka. Libby has also earned her retirement! With an overall of 383 points in R-Shows you can say she has done really good. She has competed in Sportshorse (146 points), Show Jumping (142 points) and Dressage (95 points), giving a total of 8 bonus points off to her offsprings!

She has done a lot of good in her time as a show horse (with titles of Supreme Champion, Volant and L'Étoile), and will hopefully enjoy her retirement. Thank you for selling her to us Ian Salvatore!

RRS Caspian has been a personal favorite of mine for sooo long! He has done a lot of good with an overall score of 451 points across disciplines such as Sportshorse (132 points), Show Jumping (172 points) and Dressage (147 points). He has earned the titles of Supreme Champion, Nuage and Danzatore through his career as a show horse.

BOE Rolly Joger aka. Sandokan has been a good boy, definitely deserving his retirement at 403 points across the disciplines. Seeing him compete in Show Jumping (151 points) with Narcisa Foremann has been one of the biggest pleasures in my life. He definitely takes after his sire BOE Sailor Moon, and has done a great job at every show!

Dressage (137 points) wasn't what he enjoyed the most, but he did well there too along with the halter shows for Sportshorses (115 points).

Retirering GE Rosebank was harder than I had thought possible. She is such a good mare, her rider Vigga Hertz can only agree with that, and we are happy to now have an offspring of hers, who can take over after her.

Whether in Sportshorse (181 points), Show Jumping (146 points) or Dressage (170 points) she always did her best. She is such a prima mare of the Hanoverians, and we will probably never get a mare like her again.

BOE Ladykiller shouldn't have been retired this early. Shouldn't have been dead either. Yet he hurt himself so badly at a show that he had to be put down.

He earned himself a few points throughout his lifetime: Turkoman (41 points), Show Jumping (57 points) and Dressage (52 points) - and will give his skills to his sons in hopes that they will remember him, and have the same skill as him in shows.

That was all the horses retired this month!

Now imagine a 737 Max crashing every single day. In America. Imagine the carnage and the outrage. Here’s the thing. Opioid overdoses kill more than 130 people per day in the United States, the equivalent of a daily plane crash. Yet where’s the outrage? America is negligent in the national opioid death epidemic. Maybe that’s because we have always felt drug overdoses are about shady dealers and addicts shooting up in dark alleys. I have news for you. Opioids are crossing paths with your sons, daughters, sisters, brothers, parents and co-workers as you read this. I got 'The Call' and cried for two hoursParents: Wake up! Your kid isn’t too white, too black, too Hispanic, too straight, too gay, too smart, too popular or too cool to be affected. It doesn’t matter if he’s the captain of the football team or she’s the prom queen.  Opioids are killing indiscriminately. They don’t care who you are. Your kids may well have been offered opioids already if they’re over 10 years old. That’s right — 10. Even our middle schools are dealing with an opioid problem. Driving home on a Labor Day weekend evening, I got “The Call.” As a parent, it’s a call that makes the hair on the back of your neck go rigid. All I heard was a girl, a friend of my son, Eric Chase, whimpering. In total fear, I asked: “Kayla ... is he still alive?” To this day, I really don’t know why that was the first and only thing out of my mouth. “No.” My wife, Adrienne, who was driving, pulled over to the side of the road, let out a scream — NOOOOOOOOOOO! — and then spilled out onto the busy roadway. I gathered her, and we sat on the curb and cried for two hours as the traffic passed by. The world was spinning, and for the first time in my life I was genuinely lost and confused. Adrienne just kept repeating “no ... no ... no ... no” over and over again. It didn’t make sense. Eric Chase was a good student, a better athlete and a great kid. He was my best friend, my only child, my son. And he was gone. A Xanax laced with fentanyl Eric Chase bought what he thought was a legitimate Xanax on campus at the University of Colorado, Boulder. Apparently, this goes on all the time across college campuses, with students looking to “relax” for an exam or to combat the stress of a competitive academic environment. The Xanax my son bought turned out to have been laced with fentanyl, a potent synthethic opioid produced primarily in China and Mexico. He never woke up. My life was altered that moment and will never ever be the same, nor whole, again. A journalist's tragic story: The opioid crisis hits home. Mine. President Donald Trump, with whom I’ve been friends for more than a decade, called me that next morning. He expressed his absolute sorrow and empathy. I remain grateful for that and many subsequent “checking in” calls from the president. They gave me a television platform, and I took the message to 15 town halls in 15 cities across America. In two of the cities, first lady Melania Trump joined me on stage. After surrendering CSeries, Bombardier pushes regional plane revival

MONTREAL (Reuters) – As Bombardier (BBDb.TO) surrenders hopes of securing a top spot in commercial aviation with the sale of its money-losing CSeries jet program to Airbus (AIR.PA), the Canadian company is now drawing up plans to breathe new life into its older regional planes.

Bombardier is shoring up its loss-making regional jets and turboprops with a mixture of hard-sell, cost-cutting and outsourcing. It is also growing its line of business jets after a cash squeeze and production delays forced it to cede a majority stake in its high-tech CSeries which aims to break into the market for mainline jets dominated by Airbus and Boeing.

The company will now “sharpen the focus” on its remaining commercial planes, with Bombardier Commercial Aircraft President Fred Cromer recently expanding the leadership team for the division which has combined orders in hand for just for over 100 planes, according to an internal memo seen by Reuters.

Bombardier also plans to showcase its CRJ regional jets, which recently had a cabin upgrade with more overhead bin space to appeal to business travelers, at the industry’s flagship Farnborough Air Show in July, an event it previously used to market the CSeries, two sources familiar with the company’s thinking said.

The company’s regional jet initiative won a boost from Delta Air Lines (DAL.N), which on Wednesday announced orders for 20 CRJ 900s with the new interiors, valued at around $961 million by list prices, as it and other U.S. carriers replace aging 50 and 70-seat planes with new regional jets.

According to the memo and sources familiar with the situation, the company is now moving forward with a plan to lower its regional Q400 turboprop’s costs by outsourcing its wings and cockpit from Toronto to lower cost countries, although specific locations were not named.

In 2016, Bombardier expected to move the cockpit to China and the wings to Mexico with the union’s agreement, but Bombardier failed to carry it out because the program’s volumes were previously too low, both sources said.

Bombardier said in the memo it also aims to reap more profits by promoting aftermarket services for its over 2,000 regional planes already in the air, which is part of a broader strategy the company is using for its business jets.

In a sign that Bombardier will push harder on servicing existing planes, the company plans to hire a separate executive to head customer service for its regional planes, a position currently filled by the same person who heads the Q400 program, the second source said.

All of the sources spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss Bombardier’s private strategies.

HEADWINDS

For Bombardier, the challenge is to erase losses and generating $1.5 billion in revenues by 2020. But the turnaround strategy faces headwinds.

Bombardier’s efforts to revive regional plane sales, which it sees as a $240 billion market between 2017 and 2036, come as some forecasters are expecting limited near-term sector growth.

“Demand for regional aircraft will remain weak relative to large commercial aircraft,” said Moody’s in a recent note. It predicted that regional aircraft deliveries, including the CSeries, would grow by over 4 percent in 12-to-18 months, compared with an 8-to-10 percent rise in larger aircraft. The 110-130-seat CSeries overlap regional and mainline passenger jet markets.

Bombardier is also tasked with winning orders for its regional Q400 turboprop, which sources say the company considered selling. The plane holds barely a quarter of a market that is dominated by ATR, a prop-making joint venture between Airbus and Italian group Leonardo.

Such a disparity in sales can turn into a nightmare for the losing planemaker as its adversary benefits from higher volumes to bring down unit costs, which in turn help it sell more.

Bombardier’s Cromer has appointed an executive to pursue its plan to outsource the Q400’s cockpit and wings from Toronto, which would make the prop more competitive with lower-cost ATR, the memo said.

“We’ve got a backlog now so that allows us to evaluate all the outsourcing possibilities,” the source said.

The Q400 will continue to be produced at a plant in Canada’s largest city Toronto, which was recently sold by Bombardier but remains under lease for 3 to 5 years, until a new site can be located.

Bombardier said in a statement that is “constantly looking at strategic options for all our businesses.”

The company will also step up marketing campaigns in India and Africa, aiming to persuade airlines to pick the longer-range Q400s to connect cities with secondary destinations which either do not have service or are served by jets that have higher operating costs.

India has emerged as a fast-growing market for turboprops, benefiting both ATR and Bombardier, which won its largest single order to date for the planes last year from Indian low cost carrier SpiceJet.

Promoting the Q400 for underserved markets in Africa also helped win a recent order from Ethiopian Airlines..

But the African market also has risks, with Angola’s president recently telling Euronews that a domestic airline startup was a “fictitious company,” casting doubt on its order of 6 Q400s.

After surrendering CSeries, Bombardier pushes regional plane revival

MONTREAL (Reuters) – As Bombardier (BBDb.TO) surrenders hopes of securing a top spot in commercial aviation with the sale of its money-losing CSeries jet program to Airbus (AIR.PA), the Canadian company is now drawing up plans to breathe new life into its older regional planes.

Bombardier is shoring up its loss-making regional jets and turboprops with a mixture of hard-sell, cost-cutting and outsourcing. It is also growing its line of business jets after a cash squeeze and production delays forced it to cede a majority stake in its high-tech CSeries which aims to break into the market for mainline jets dominated by Airbus and Boeing.

The company will now “sharpen the focus” on its remaining commercial planes, with Bombardier Commercial Aircraft President Fred Cromer recently expanding the leadership team for the division which has combined orders in hand for just for over 100 planes, according to an internal memo seen by Reuters.

Bombardier also plans to showcase its CRJ regional jets, which recently had a cabin upgrade with more overhead bin space to appeal to business travelers, at the industry’s flagship Farnborough Air Show in July, an event it previously used to market the CSeries, two sources familiar with the company’s thinking said.

The company’s regional jet initiative won a boost from Delta Air Lines (DAL.N), which on Wednesday announced orders for 20 CRJ 900s with the new interiors, valued at around $961 million by list prices, as it and other U.S. carriers replace aging 50 and 70-seat planes with new regional jets.

According to the memo and sources familiar with the situation, the company is now moving forward with a plan to lower its regional Q400 turboprop’s costs by outsourcing its wings and cockpit from Toronto to lower cost countries, although specific locations were not named.

In 2016, Bombardier expected to move the cockpit to China and the wings to Mexico with the union’s agreement, but Bombardier failed to carry it out because the program’s volumes were previously too low, both sources said.

Bombardier said in the memo it also aims to reap more profits by promoting aftermarket services for its over 2,000 regional planes already in the air, which is part of a broader strategy the company is using for its business jets.

In a sign that Bombardier will push harder on servicing existing planes, the company plans to hire a separate executive to head customer service for its regional planes, a position currently filled by the same person who heads the Q400 program, the second source said.

All of the sources spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss Bombardier’s private strategies.

HEADWINDS

For Bombardier, the challenge is to erase losses and generating $1.5 billion in revenues by 2020. But the turnaround strategy faces headwinds.

Bombardier’s efforts to revive regional plane sales, which it sees as a $240 billion market between 2017 and 2036, come as some forecasters are expecting limited near-term sector growth.

“Demand for regional aircraft will remain weak relative to large commercial aircraft,” said Moody’s in a recent note. It predicted that regional aircraft deliveries, including the CSeries, would grow by over 4 percent in 12-to-18 months, compared with an 8-to-10 percent rise in larger aircraft. The 110-130-seat CSeries overlap regional and mainline passenger jet markets.

Bombardier is also tasked with winning orders for its regional Q400 turboprop, which sources say the company considered selling. The plane holds barely a quarter of a market that is dominated by ATR, a prop-making joint venture between Airbus and Italian group Leonardo.

Such a disparity in sales can turn into a nightmare for the losing planemaker as its adversary benefits from higher volumes to bring down unit costs, which in turn help it sell more.

Bombardier’s Cromer has appointed an executive to pursue its plan to outsource the Q400’s cockpit and wings from Toronto, which would make the prop more competitive with lower-cost ATR, the memo said.

“We’ve got a backlog now so that allows us to evaluate all the outsourcing possibilities,” the source said.

The Q400 will continue to be produced at a plant in Canada’s largest city Toronto, which was recently sold by Bombardier but remains under lease for 3 to 5 years, until a new site can be located.

Bombardier said in a statement that is “constantly looking at strategic options for all our businesses.”

The company will also step up marketing campaigns in India and Africa, aiming to persuade airlines to pick the longer-range Q400s to connect cities with secondary destinations which either do not have service or are served by jets that have higher operating costs.

India has emerged as a fast-growing market for turboprops, benefiting both ATR and Bombardier, which won its largest single order to date for the planes last year from Indian low cost carrier SpiceJet.

FIRST BATCH OF BABIES!

Last night we got a whole batch of babies! We now have a total of four babies, and are expecting two more hopefully soon!

BOE Moonlit Debate is the first one up, we just call her Debby. She is a Black (EE aa) Oldenburg filly after dam BOE Mexico Nightmare (my own) and sire Debutant RRC (from Isabell Oaks).

She got a lot of spunk, but mostly stays beside her mom, and is a little nervous when saying hello. But she has just been born and we are weird tall creatures, so I think that's ok! Hopefully she will grow to be as outgoing and social as her mother. She will be trained by Ismael Lehmann.

Next one up is BOE Flyover, also called Sonny. He is not exactly owned by us at Black Onyx Equestrian, as Narcisa (Foremann, our general manager) bought him, even before he was born. He is a Black (EE aa) German Riding Pony colt. He is after our own BOE Barbie Girl and Narcisa's star jumper pony EIJ Superfly, who has just been put into retirement.

Narcisa's hopes and dreams about this colt are to show him in jumping just like his dad, and probably in Dressage too, so we have the chance to use him as stud as he grow older and more experienced, as we breed Dressage focused German Riding Ponies.

BOE Lady's Protector is another baby of ours. As his dam has earned credit and points so very fast, Victor here will be taking over after his dam, when he grows older and more confident. He is a Chestnut Tobiano (ee aa nT) Oldenburg colt, and he is after our own girl BOE Fashion Forward and BOE Ladykiller (also ours).

He is definitely a solo runner. He prefers the company of himself only, and will definitely be a one-person-horse as he grows older. He is very solitary, and has some attitude as he is half thoroughbred AND he is chestnut.

I will be his rider when he grows old enough, and train him from the ground until then.

Last baby up is the other filly in the batch: BOE Chapline, called Chappy or just Chapline. She is a Bay (EE Aa) Oldenburg filly after two grey parents and will probably grey out in time, which is a shame as her shade of bay is quite unique! Her dam is Opaline HF (bred by Ian Salvatore, owned by me) and RRS Caspian (bred by Ola Urban).

She is a girl with lots of energy and attitude bordering on hostile. Very curious, even if she prefers the company of her mother these days. Definitely another one person horse. Narcisa will be taking over her training as she grows older.

We had loads of fun, and even trotted a little bit too, before taking a short canter. Talia just followed us at the same speed, enjoying her life - or so it seemed!

When I got home I went by the riding arena - on horse of course - and saw Narcisa training with young Weltino in lunges. He was walking a lot more calmly than the last time in lunge, so that's progress I guess. I am very happy to have Narcisa and her expertize at my stable, and I am sure that when she enters her first show with Tino they will do great!

He was very frisky when he got here at first, but has calmed down considerably, which is great! He still have his fire in the show jumping arena though.

When Narcisa was done with training Tino I kept him company in his stall for a little while, while he got some food to eat. He seemed to be enjoying the open stall door, and didn't even try to escape - not too many times anyways, haha xD

We also got another new mare (BOE Mexico Nightmare). Or new and new. She is actually bred by me, but quite awhile ago (April 2022). We got the change to buy her back, and as she had been registred into the Oldenburg breeding books, she is a perfect addition to the team.
