#i wanted to have fun with this one by drawing how i imagine my teams base to look postgame (too lazy to color it though)#dont stare at it too hard- i suck at perspective so i had to make a mockup in minecraft and draw over it TT_TT#i really wish they did more with the team base after graduation like.. some decorations at least. and i was always curious#whether the vines at the back of the room would reveal a new room and i was so disappointed when it didnt#im gonna ramble a bit abt what i drew here-#a small pool has been built around the spring so it holds more water.. it was inspired by the well in secret world of arrietty#+ a small garden to plant crops like berries. i think neptune would be the one to manage it to keep his hands busy#theres also a table with a copy of the map used for planning out travel routes besides the one carried in the bag#in my gameplay i like to stack missions if theyre in the same location for efficiency and i think they do that too#the bookshelf is their shared collection of comics and favorite books. and theres a bulletin board with mementos and#i think maybe some nice letters theyve received. you can also see grovyles wanted poster as a keepsake#theres a back room covered by vines which separates the bedroom and i didnt get to draw it but tbh theres not much there#just their beds and collection of treasures. maybe some stuffed toys and gifts?#there are string lights hung around the ceiling in the main room#my art#myart#pokemon mystery dungeon#pmd#heropartnerweek#heropartnerweek2025#doodles#team satellite#oc#ocs

"if you want queer fantasy read legends and lattes!" you could not PAY me to read cozy fantasy i have given the genre a try and it is not for me
"if cozy fantasy doesn't do it for you try Gideon the ninth!" as much as I like irreverence I find this book TOO irreverent to the point of being annoying
"well fine what DO you even like?" I like epic fantasies that take themselves seriously and have multiple moving parts that all come together at the end to make you go holy shit!!!!!!
"so like The Stormlight Archive or A Song of Ice and Fire?" yes exactly! I mean I'm not reading asoif any time soon but kinda like that
"but aren't those all written by straight white men? I thought you were looking for queer fantasy" read Priory of the Orange Tree
#this has been a post#priory is just one example I could pull like five off my bookshelf right now#but priory is my favorite AND the only one I didn't know was queer going in#about asoiaf. I read game of thrones so I feel like I did my time#I just have no desire to read the rest lmao#I do love the stormlight archive but I read the first three so long ago and in such a rush I feel like there's no point#trying to get back in and read the new books now#anyway yeah most of the books I read aren't queer which is why it's extra disappointing when the queer books I do read just#I don't like them! wehh#the priory of the orange tree

I very occasionally venture out from under my Tumblr rock and am then reminded why I stay under it. This is your periodic reminder that I am but one nerd on the internet who tries to stick to canon (but has been known to get it wrong), and who also likes making silly non-canonical fanwork not intended to be confused for canon.
But this is more so a reminder to go back to re-enjoy the source material from time to time! No bad takes or misinformation can take that experience away from you! Let that gator rot your brain!
#i have been wanting to go back through just to read Gotouge comments#but My Research is mean#I still gotta find time to post about the KnY stuff Reichel and I did!!#as usual I spent too much money#also I need a new bookshelf#i only bought one sword book this month!#but my nice books are looking squished by My Research and I have a new Ufotable art book coming in early December#gotta make room

Sims 2 has played Clinical Trial, it all went by the exact same beats
#Clinical Trial#Angel Martinez#Lee Smith#The Sims 2#WPVG#WPTS2#Okay so it wasn't Exact-exact but some of that was due to a global mod I have since removed#I had the No Instant Love mod installed because even for how cartoony TS2 is - and I love it for that! - Sims do fall in love Hella fast#Problem being that my version of the mod is glitched :P It does slow the rate of one Sim's relationship - as intended!#The other? Refuses to see them as anything more than a friend - ever#Oops aroace mod lol#Would be ideal if I could Control which Sims that effect was applied to! Alas - you'll never guess - it hit Lee#So Angel fell in love with him and he was stuck at ''Just Friends'' - even when I put his relationship to max with them#Like - Angel's LTR and STR were both lower than Lee's of them and /they/ were the only one in love of the two! Mod borken#So I removed it and the cartooniness is back lol - it did give me the opportunity to screengrab Lee falling in love all at once haha#Also have I mentioned that one Sims 2 piece of homie's and how it's wrong lol#The Sims 2's Family Aspiration is the one that pops engagement and marriage as green Wants most reliably#But the Romance Aspiration - which in equal parts will pop those as red Fears - was the asset shown#Fake fan points and laughs#Lol#Obvi I made Lee a Family Sim! Actually a Knowledge Sim with a Family secondary - specifically pointed at Angel haha#And I think I made Angel a Popularity Sim with a Family secondary? I never know whether to make Pleasure or Popularity Sims haha#It felt a little cruelly ironic to make Angel want friends and not have any ♥ I am nice to the characters I like haha#They're fully moved in and living with Lee it's always Week 8 Sunday around these parts it's fine#It was fun trying to translate Lee's house into a 3D space haha - the creepy hallway???? I changed its orientation#There's no longer a door directly to the master bathroom you have to go through the bedroom#Did include the murder basement tho :) Not as a basement tho sadly :( Sims 2 is bad with basements#Even using The Trick I couldn't get it to work with the garage as part of the main building so I was just like Fine#First story murder ''basement'' lol - and the stalker closet isn't behind a bookshelf But it is locked to Lee only#So it's fine! It's all Close Enough :) It's all for funsies ♪

anyone interested in talking about the iconic 2000's middle-grade-bordering-on-ya book series gallagher girls??
#okay incoming rant about this series#i read the first book when i was 10 or 11 and i was absolutely obssessed with it. i read it so many times i had the entire story memorized#the issue was that i could not find the rest of the series anywhere. it was either sold out or out of stock#and then i found out that only the first 3 books had been translated into my first language so at that point i kinda gave up on them#anyway#flashforward to a couple of weeks ago#i was re organizing my bookshelf and on the back i found LYKY (is this how y'all are abreviating it??)#and remembred how much i loved it#and since i'm now fluent in english and was stuck at home recovering from a surgery i decided to download the entire series and read it#to find out what the fuck happened afterwards#long story short i read all six books in 4 or 5 days#and i haven't stopped thinking about them since#it's actually so funny how little information we have in the first book#i went all of these years thinking it was mostly a silly series about a boarding school for spies when actually SO MUCH happens afterwards#i can't believe i went all of these years unaware of zach goode's existence#truly character of all time#but also i can't stop thinking about how interesting it would have been if zach had come to hate the circle and his mom during the series#rather than before#make it a true enemies to lovers#and have us witness that portion of his character developement in real time instead of being told about it#like him slowly realizing through cammie and his time at gallagher that maybe what they were doing is wrong#i think it would have been very interesting to read#although let's be real it took me until halfway through book four to trust him and he was fully one of the good guys so..#but yeah i have a lot more to say but these tags are long enough#gallagher girls#okay i just want to add another funny anecdote about my experience with this series#my copy of LYKY has an age warning in the back recomending that readers should be above 13 yo to read it#and i distinctly remember finishing it and thinking the warning was kind of dumb bcs besides a few mentions of death and other heavier topi#nothing really happened#and now i realize it was a warning for the rest of the series not just the first book because jesus fucking chirst everything after

hey, i find your posts about historical fiction pretty interesting, do you have any recs?
anon this is the most beautiful and validating ask i have ever received. absolutely of COURSE I have recs. not gonna be a lot of deep cuts on this list but i love all of these books and occasionally books do receive awards and acclaim because they are good. in no particular order:
the cromwell trilogy by hilary mantel. of course i gotta start with the og. it’s 40 million pages on the tudor court and the english reformation and it will fundamentally change you as a person and a reader
(sub rec: the giant, o’brien by hilary mantel. in many ways a much shorter thematic companion to the cromwell trilogy imo. about stories and death and embodiment and the historical record and 18th century ireland. if you loved the trilogy, read this to experience hils playing with her own theories about historical fiction. if you are intimidated by the trilogy, read this first to get a taste of her prose style and her approach to the genre. either way please read all four novels ok thanks)
lincoln in the bardo by george saunders. the book that got me back into historical fiction as an adult. american history as narrated by a bunch of weird ghosts and abraham lincoln. chaotic and lovely and morbid.
the everlasting by katy simpson smith. rome through the ages as seen by a medici princess, a gay death-obsessed monk, and an early christian martyr. really historically grounded writing about religion and power, and also narrated with interjections from god’s ex boyfriend satan. smith is a trained historian and her prose slaps
(sub rec: free men by katy simpson smith. only a sub rec bc i read it a long time ago and my memory of it is imperfect but i loved it in 2017ish. about three men in the woods in the post revolutionary american south and by virtue of being about masculinity is actually about women. smith did her phd in antebellum southern femininity and motherhood iirc so this book is LOCKED IN to those perspectives)
a mercy by toni morrison. explores the dissolution of a household in 17th century new york. very different place and time than a lot of morrison’s bigger novels but just as mean and beautiful
(sub rec: beloved by toni morrison. a sub rec bc im pretty sure everyone has already read beloved but perhaps consider reading it again? histfic ghost story abt how the past is always here and will never go away and loves you and hates you and is trying to kill you)
an artist of the floating world by kazuo ishiguro. my bestie sir kazuo likes to explore the past through characters who, for one reason or another (amnesia, dementia, being a little baby robot who was just born yesterday, etc), are unable to fully comprehend their surroundings. this one is about post-wwii japan as understood by an elderly supporter of the imperial regime
(sub rec: remains of the day by kazuo ishiguro. same conceit as above except this time the elderly collaborator is incapable of reckoning with the slow collapse of the system that sheltered him due to britishness.)
the pull of the stars by emma donoghue. donoghue is a strong researcher and all of her novels are super grounded in their place and time without getting so caught up in it they turn into textbooks. i picked this one bc it is a wwi lesbian love story about childbirth that made me cry so hard i almost threw up on a plane but i recommend all her histfic published after 2010. before that she was still finding her stride.
days without end by sebastian barry. this one is hard to read and to rec bc it is about the us army’s policy of genocide against native americans in the 19th century west as told by an irish cavalry soldier. it is grim and violent and miserable and also so beautiful it makes me cry about every three pages. first time i read it i was genuinely inconsolable for two days afterwards.
this post is long as hell so HONORABLE MENTIONS: the amazing adventures of kavalier & clay by michael chabon, the western wind by samantha harvey, golden hill by frances spufford, barkskins by annie proulx, postcards by annie proulx, most things annie proulx has written but i feel like i talk about her too much, the view from castle rock by alice munro, the name of the rose by umberto eco, tracks by louise erdrich
#honestly will probably be coming back with additions bc this is just based on whats currently on my bookshelf#made this post while staring at the copy of mirror & the light i keep on my desk as some kind of hilary mantalisman#send me your address so i can explain my passions etc etc#histfic

Hey y'all! Weird question time again, this time for my fellow peeps with brain fog (or other things that could cause word issues tbh I have no idea which of my health issues causes it): Do you ever find when your brain gets stuck trying to say a word because the word is just completely gone from your head* in your first language, you can kinda work around the missing words in a different language? Especially asking if this commonly happens to you in a language that A. you are not fluent in and B. no one you are talking to understands Like, knowing more Spanish vocab has helped me when I get stuck in English because sometimes I can say the thing in Spanish and it's like it unlocks the ability to say it in English, but sometimes I say it in Spanish and still can't come up with the words in English and then I have just said a sentence in not very good Spanish to my dad and brother, who speak almost no Spanish (this has happened enough my brother is picking up on Spanish)
*idk how to articulate the difference between the word issues I'm talking about and the "oh I forget the word it's on the tip of my tongue" type issues. Like, my dad, uncles, and cousin were/are firefighters. My dad was, at the time, watching a show about firefighters. One time I lost the word firefighter so completely that by the time I was able to string together other words to get the concept across, what I came up with was "firetruck people". I still occasionally have the "forgot the word" issues, but I never had the "word is completely gone" problems before I got sick and the two feel very different (they probably look not too dissimilar from the outside)
#the person behind the yarn#tj asks weird questions#most of the time I do at least know that I do not have the right word anymore#sometimes I just say the wrong word anyway because I have to say it to get it out of the way so I can say other words#to get the people I am talking to to the right word#sometimes I do not realize I have the wrong word#and I say it very confidently until I see the look on the faces of the people I am talking to#and I have to say wait. that was the wrong word#yesterday I was trying to explain to my mom that a folded blanket had a pattern of a bookshelf printed on it#and that if you unfold the blanket you can see the bookshelf#what I said was 'if you open the blanket you'll see books'#and then I tried to clarify and every word choice just kept reinforcing that we had for some reason#folded up a this blanket around a bunch of books#jumping back a topic: to be clear. the word issue happens to me in Spanish too#I just am rarely speaking Spanish around people who understand Spanish so like#my family does not realize I've just said completely the wrong word
