Macro Tropes: Snow

I love it when a macro story centers around a tiny trapped outside in the snow, before getting rescued by a gentle macro.

It really works for both sides, because from the tiny's perspective it invokes the perfect feeling of being cherished and protected, finally having the safety to calm down and just melt into the hands of your rescuer.

On the other hand it's perfect for the macro because it invokes the perfect mix of pity and cuteness, being able to watch this poor abandoned thing smaller than your hand clinging to you like their life depends on it.

There we go, so we're starting with... Number 5, even if the guy in the first place is obvious, but I need a good built up!

5. Cozy Powell

Starting from the tamest, but a very good drummer. His technical skills and the sheer power of his playing is one of a kind. If he plays, you can immediately say that it's him. The drums will be heard, everything works without a stutter. He'll play everything from simple rhythm based song to one with a bunch of fills where every single piece of his set is heard - and seeing this on stage is ✨magical✨. He was one of the drummers that I heard during my teenage life, because I stumbled upon Rainbow a couple of times. Kinda regret that I didn't listen to Rainbow earlier because of him, but I'm catching up now!

4. Stewart Copeland

A drummer that I had never thought I will like. Stewart is very rhythm orientated, but his playing is very original. It's not your simple 3/4 rhythm and off we go, it's far from that. His playing is mostly inspired by the rhythm of reggae music and that's most definitely why he's so unique. He also has a very big drumset and seeing him play on all the drums, running around the stage to fill in some other sounds - like I saw on the concert for Synchronicity tour - is just insane! I really adore his style. I cannot describe it for shit, but it's just amazing!

3. John Bonham

We're on the level of my top 3, so the level of - he's playing in the background, but he's all you can hear and that's how it should be. The drummer that brought me into old music, John's playing is just a masterpiece. Rhythm always kept, fills where they should be, there's no way there will be a steady *pata pata* on drums when he's playing. One song will have different feel to it in various parts and that's what's magical about his playing. That's especially heard in the blues songs of Led Zeppelin, the drums are giving away the feel of how heavy the feeling of these songs are. That is a skill 💜

2. Joey Jordison

Definitely a jump from classics. I discovered Slipknot recently (2024) and got into it in 2025 and now "All Hope Is Gone" flew to the spot next to "Quadrophenia" - I'll yeet this album at anyone who will tell me they want to listen to good drumming. Rhythm is in his playing style, but forget about keeping the tempo and go with the music. Constant fills, every piece of set is used, the sweet double bass drum fills (my beloved), drums during the entire song, not a second of break, just pure drumming heaven. Slipknot is heavy, but my God, Jordi is the drummer that is the peak of modern drummers. This is how a modern drummer should sound like!

And we're back to classics with the one and only Keith Moon - only he can be on the first place. The one drummer who started it all. No matter what what song of The Who up to 1978 you play, the drums are top notch. Every single piece of set is played, constant fills, teh double bass drum my beloved, loud as fuck, chaotic, carrying the entire song while making the drums the lead and the main instrument - like it should be. And seeing him play live? It's a wild ride, but one that always brings a smile on my face. Love his chaotic style, his persona all over the place, not a single thing bad about his style, pure perfection 💜

It’s not about improvement. Although up until the Palestine debacle he managed pretty well. You’re welcome to look up employment, taxes and any other number of things he helped make significant strides in. Biden is a stop gap. He isn’t how we treat the injury to our democracy, he’s how we stem the hemorrhage.

You’re welcome to look up Project 2025 and see what conservatives have in mind if they get into power. We’ve already seen sharp losses in human rights because they tilted SCOTUS during Trump’s presidency. They flat out published a manifesto on how they plan to finish dismantling our democracy if they get the chance this next go around.

We have all of human history to see how it will go if we don’t walk it back from the edge now. It isn’t about better. It’s about having someplace left to stand so we can at least start the work of fixing this shit.

Would Non want this?

This question has been echoing in my head, ever since I made the post about New disregarding what Non might want. To me, that was a really damning moment in the narrative for New, because it puts him in a long line of people who have used Non for their own ends, for their own gain. It shifted his goal from "righteous revenge" to "selfish revenge" and since that put him in line with everyone else who didn't care about Non's agency or his desires, to me it marked him for death.

I've heard a lot of responses to that, including "revenge is always inherently selfish so that doesn't change New's character" and "Non is dead so what he'd want doesn't matter." And I disagree. Because narratively, what Non wants does matter. It's half the point of the show, that Non wanted to stay involved in the movie, didn't want to give up his script, that people pushed him around and framed him and coerced and manipulated him - stripping him of his agency at every turn. Even the people who thought they wanted the best for him (Phee, Jin) pushed what they wanted onto Non.

So even if Non is dead (and I'm not convinced he is), yes his agency and what he'd want matters. The problem is, of course, that we don't know what he might want.

We can speculate. Because of course, Non wrote the script, condemning everyone to die. He brought a knife into the woods, intending to use it to murder Por, Tee, Top, Fluke, and Jin.

But despite this, when push comes to shove, Non backs down. When Jin darts forward to apologize, Non lowers the knife. Despite the fact that Non wrote Jin's death into the script, and crossed out his face along with the others, Non couldn't kill Jin even in the midst of his psychotic break.

Yes yes I know Non didn't know what Jin did to him, but despite that, Non had clearly decided Jin was guilty by association, but he couldn't pull the trigger.

In the further flashbacks, when we see Non working with Tee to repay Uncle Joe, we also see he has a note that he keeps nearby to motivate him. And that note says nothing about revenge. Non simply wants to get out and move on with his life. He also has Tee right there in front of him, and doesn't try to kill him. He hits Tee's chest, but even that is pathetic in comparison to pulling a knife on him before...

So all of that leads me to believe that Non didn't want revenge. He wanted to move on with his life. He didn't have that kind of violence in him. He was a gentle kid at heart, pushed to the breaking point.

But for the sake of argument, let's say Non DOES want revenge. Let's say that he wants the group of friends to die for their crimes. Because he very well might.

I think some people are missing some crucial pieces of information here. Because while Non might want the group to die, I don't think that would extend to Phee.

Non loved Phee. They broke up. And even if Non viewed Phee sleeping with Jin as a betrayal (and he might not, since they broke up AND there's some muddiness there because of Non sleeping with Keng - don't come at me, it's coercion, but the narrative establishes that Phee views it as cheating, so that's why I mention it) - he might not want Phee to die for it!

Non might not want the person he loved to die a bloody death because of his mistakes. Even if he hated Phee for sleeping with Jin. That might very well be too far for the boy who hated feeling like a burden on the people he loves.

But okay, let's assume Non DOES want Phee to die along with the others. He might not want his older brother to be the one doing it.

As I said above, Non hated feeling like a burden. He hated the idea of people inconveniencing themselves because of him. Do you really think he'd like the thought of his older brother throwing everything away, his entire life, and now his future? Non might not want New, the last member of his family, to destroy himself that way. There's no one else to carry out that revenge for Non, but if Non weighed the choice between his brother having a successful future vs revenge...? I'm not sure what he'd choose.

There's a lot of complexities to the question of what Non might or might not want. And while I personally think he wouldn't want revenge, because Non was at his heart a gentle person until he was pushed to the absolute brink... I think there are layers to the revenge that he may or may not want. And I think that desire matters, and it frustrates me that people are once again taking Non's agency out of the story.

But we need to remember that this is real life, the outcome of this election will affect all of us for decades. The entire world for decades. Get out and vote, make your voice heard, don’t get complacent, don’t get lethargic, and don’t get apathetic. Vote, talk, debate. Volunteer, organize, do whatever you can with whatever you have. Vote Kamala Harris and Tim Walz to the White House! And get informed.
