Oh hello, full moon right after a 5-day weekend. Nice to see you! Please go away again. I really in no way needed to see one of the grade 2 girls grab a couple of longer boomwhackers (plastic tubes cut to specific lengths, which make sound when hit against something), hold them up against her chest, and strut around doing her best Madonna Bra impression. Yes, THAT Madonna Bra. Other things I did not need to see with the boomwhackers: them being licked, used as an extendable ear, yodelled through, used as a spyglass, licked (yes, again), “pooped out” (Year of Poo!), used as swords, and predictably, held in front of a boy’s pants. In more positive boomwhacker news, I really wish typing could convey sound effects because the kid who ran across the ENTIRE music room tapping two small ones together and yelling something I can only approximate as “blibbidyblibbidyblibbidy” with his tongue hanging out might just be my new favourite?

Me: “Can anyone put their hand up and remind the class what work songs are for?”

Kid: “Keeping a beat while working!”

Me: “Yes! Exactly! So if I was to give you a mini test next music class, asking that question, everyone in the room would be able to tell me that work songs are for…?”

Class (minus the Kid): “Keeping a beat!”    Kid: “Broccoli!”

BOOMWHACKERS! I LOVED THESE THINGS WHEN I WAS IN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL. OH MY GOSH. i got to play them in the 4th and 5th grade chorus! they were so much fun! who knew there's a whole group out there that plays them?

this is something i love about the human race, we are just organized space dust trying to do our best and yet we have the sentience and just idk spark to just create- music, art, language. and we even challenge ourselves and try to recreate crazy music with boomwhackers! i just love humans sometimes
