just a heads up to my fellow writers out there that AO3 is currently fighting off bots commenting on people’s works to tell them that AO3 will delete their fics “due to the works being deprecated”, and the deletion will affect their accounts unless the authors delete the fics themselves first. IT IS A SCAM. AO3 will NOT delete your works. please do NOT fall for these bots!

I’ve been told the reason why these bots are doing this is due to copyright infringement issue where they’re trying to steal your works (possibly to train AI but this is just a guess) ‼️‼️‼️and once you deleted your fics, it will be either very difficult or impossible for you to claim ownership of your own fics when they were already deleted.‼️‼️‼️

When I just saw this information I couldn't stop crying thinking about it, and now my heart aches. They were the same age as me, I know for a fact like any other teen they dreamt of their future, who they would want to become, what to achieve, create, wondering if they meet those in the future they can call friends, wondeting if it'll get better when they grow up, maybe wished to leave that terrible place or maybe wanted to stay. How could anyone let this happen, why were they discharged from hospital so easily? And the school, we all know why. I hate to think about how, even with all the progress made, these things still happen.

But I also blame the government, the school, and even those bigoted online accounts that teach their followers hate. In this case LibsOfTikTok, who targeted the teacher of this school, who supports lgbtq+, so they had to leave their position. It must have been the push for this to happen. Glad Day book shop is considered the oldest queer book store in the world and the oldest running book store in Toronto. They are a staple of the gay village here in my city and are a hub of knowledge and a well recognized safe space for everyone. They are in trouble and may end up being shut down soon however if they cannot come up with $100, 000 to pull themselves out of mounting debt that has been building over the past few years. They're hoping to create a safety net for themselves and to possibly relocate if they can reach their final goal of $300, 000. Hey guys, so I feel weird making one of these, but my dad gave me the okay, so I’m doing so.

The above picture is of my sister, Raven, at her swearing in ceremony when she became a citizen, something she is very proud of and worked very hard towards. Raven is autistic, trans, and an immigrant. Unfortunately, since the election, Raven has been assaulted on two separate occasions, purely based on her appearance and what body parts bigoted people think she may have. They have called her horrible things and threatened her with even worse physical violence than they actually did. My dad is hoping to move from Texas to California, where she will be safer and much less likely to be attacked again. This move will cost a lot of money that sadly went to my dad’s cancer treatment a few years ago, as well as a more recent hospital stay. I was recently told AO3 is currently being plagued by bots that comment on people’s works and falsely claim their fics were AI generated. and I can see how vile and discouraging hearing that is for authors who put so much time, effort and dedication into creating their fics.

now listen to me, if you ever get a comment like this on your work, please please please please know that they’re most definitely bot who comments the same thing on dozens of people’s works at random without ever reading the works. at all. they just copy and paste the same script onto random fics, any fic they come across.

they’re bots with malicious intentions, and they most certainly want you to lose motivation and/or delete your works. DON’T GIVE THEM WHAT THEY WANT.

if you ever get a comment like this, just delete the comment and/or report it to AO3.

remember that their comments don’t mean your works look “AI generated”. it only means these bots come across your fic and leave the same copy and pasted comment on it like they do to other writers.

don’t let them make you question yourself. they’re nothing but spam bots. YOU are a writer and you are fucking awesome.

Over the last 12 months I have:

Submitted 3,000+ applications/resumes.

Had 100+ interviews.

Got 1 job that I was constantly misgendered at, and upon informing HR, was then cyber-stalked by my bosses.

Got 1 freelance opportunity who, after two weeks, realized they had hired too many people and then let everyone go who was hired - me included.

Ran out of unemployment, drained my savings, maxed out my credit, and fully lost my insurance.

Unfortunately, even if I got a job RIGHT NOW, I would be unable to pay rent and bills for the foreseeable future.

After successfully killing this pro-censorship and surveillance bill last session, it’s back, and we’re jumping into action to stop it again.

It is honestly unfathomable that in the current political climate lawmakers are putting forward legislation that would give the Trump administration more tools to silence perspectives they don’t like. Over the past five months they have disappeared, deported, and defunded people and organizations who have exercised their first amendment rights.2,3,4

The fact that lawmakers are watching all this happen, and are still willing to support KOSA, is unconscionable.

If KOSA passes, Trump’s Federal Trade Commission (FTC) would be able to say that any topic they want to stop people from talking about causes “harm” to kids, and force platforms to censor it. And we don’t have to guess what they would target, since FTC Chair Andrew Fergusson said if confirmed he’d fight the “trans agenda.”5

It’s unfortunately not surprising that Senator Blumenthal, the Democratic sponsor of the bill, doesn’t seem to care about the harm his bill would cause. Sen. Blumenthal has consistently ignored the hundreds of organizations that have raised concerns about how KOSA would impact the LGBTQ+ community, access to information on reproductive rights, and everyone's free expression online.

But we do think there is a good opportunity to strip other lawmakers’ support for KOSA in the face of Trump’s attack on human rights. We have a plan to continue working with our anti-censorship coalition, the hundreds of thousands of parents, young people, and activists who have already helped stop KOSA, and to kill this dangerous bill again.
