Follies and Freaks: a 1908 view.
In 1908 T.W. Wilkinson submitted an article on ‘Remarkable Follies’ to Wide World Magazine. This popular publication was launched in 1898 and was aimed at men, and in particular what one writer has called ‘armchair adventurers’. It specialised in true-life tales of derring-do with titles such as ‘The Underground Pirates’ and ‘Across Africa by Boat’. One wonders what the readership made of…

♫ 𝚙𝚕𝚊𝚢𝚕𝚒𝚜𝚝. cry to me by loleatta holloway♫
I was completely dazed, hoping that I won’t crash into a brick wall anytime soon. The images from last night were on a constant reply behind my eyes. I’m sure she has no idea or at least I hope that she doesn’t but when I got up to go to the bathroom, I saw her. She was standing in my shower letting brushing her hands against her body, tracing the lines of her hips with what I presume was my soap. The door was slightly ajar although the steam hid her, which I was thankful for, a perverse part of my brain wish it wasn’t. But her outline was more than enough. The feeling wasn’t anger towards her but frustration all again within me being a creep and internal moral conflict.
As I tossed in bed, I listened to her feet pad around the hardwood and finally settle in the living room. After rolling back and forth multiple times I found a comfortable position and let my mind drift away void of any lingering thoughts. Images of her continuously flashed in my mind, it was inappropriate, unprofessional, a conflict of interest. My shoulders dropped instantly as we pulled into her driveway, she left me alone and I pressed my head against the seat.
Once I ended my call with Henrietta and confirmed today’s appointment, she reappeared dressed in black jeans, baby blue cotton button up rolled to the elbow, hair out of her face and ears decorated with gold jewelry and minimal makeup. A soft tote bag thrown over her shoulder slipped off ever so slightly as she opened the door — I itched to get out and do it for her, it didn’t feel right to see her open it on her own. Up close she looked honey-drenched from a soft golden shimmer highlighted on the peaks of her face. I swallowed roughly.
“Are you nervous?” I ask, hoping the breaking the silence will help me feel normal.
“Not at all,” She says plainly.
“Were you nervous your first time Ms. Anderson?” She stares out the window.
I chuckle. “Depends.”
“My mindset is there is nothing I can’t do. I can have it all, you know.”
“I remember my first project after Grandad died, I took over his small crew of chauvinistic dicks. They all acted like I gave him the cancer, that was the hardest part, getting the job done even though I was surrounded by people who couldn’t care less if I died too. A lot of time I was at sites overnight, fixing mistakes they made on purpose, juggling multiple contracts, grieving,” I grip the wheel tighter remembering the level of mental turmoil I was put through. Funeral arrangements, emotionally manipulative girlfriend, underpaid… “I don’t think I had time to be nervous, I had to be strong immediately. Let them call me horrible names and make those jokes to prove a point,”
A small Henrietta came into view waving a small, saggy arm quickly. She was so cute.
“That’s Mrs. Harris, she’s quite the character.” I add.
Without time to complete our conversation we both step out with haste.
“Welcome ladies, now I don’t remember this fine young lady before.”
“Hi Ms. Harris, I’m Ms. Anderson’s new assistant, nice meeting you.” She smiles brightly and genuinely.
“Perfect, you can meet my daughter Nora then, she’s making iced tea.”
My face contorts with confusion as we take our shoes off at the door to walk into the kitchen. Lemon lady, Nora, looks up and our faces share similar confusion. I scratch at a sliver of my exposed arm.
“Abigail,” She manages to grunt.
“Oh—What? You two know each other?” Her mother questions.
“‘Ma were actually neighbors,”
Mrs. Harris gasps theatrically and slams her hand over her chest and praises silently to herself.
“We are.” I confirm.
Nora’s tanned skin was deep and rusty, causing her light brown eyes to pop even more. I saw her beauty in its fullness as she pranced from around the island in a hot pink wrap dress.
“So, what the hell!” Henrietta laughs, wrapping a causal arm around my new assistant.
“In passing we speak but not fully, I definitely don’t know you, hi.”
I had never payed attention to how raspy her voice was - sultry. Her long lashes fluttered as two parts of my new world began to collide instantly and explode right in my face. Nora’s full 'fro was painted with a stroke of grey around the edges of her hairline feathering outwards. Her femininity was palpable, she floated on her lavender painted toes around the kitchen, finally making it to me. I had to look downwards slightly to meet her gaze.
“Hi,” She twinkles softly.
“Well, hello there. I started to find it suspicious that I didn’t receive a crate of lemons recently.”
She laughs behind a soft manicured hand that then brushes slightly against my bicep. “I’m starting limes now.”
For some reason I blushed.
We sat in the tastily aquatic themed living room where I sat with all three ladies to have further discussion, even now I didn’t want to, I wanted to hear Nora’s voice again. A small tingle danced on my body from all the pleasantries Nora and I had ran into from simply speaking. No awkward waves or glances and I felt … a bit nervous. Her femininity was fragrant and I pictured those short nails piercing into my skin as I flatten her curls into a pillowcase.
Iced tea sat center on to coffee table that I sipped while avoiding any glances in Nora’s direction, undressing her with my eyes in front of her mother would be absolutely inappropriate — which made it harder. As I slipped on my specs to read some notes I made after meeting with Henrietta I felt two flaming gazes traveling in my direction. One of them mutual and one of them not, a fantasy living in my dreamscape.
“‘Ma I won’t be moving back in anytime soon, but if you worked on the guest bedroom, maybe I could stay over more often?” Nora groaned.
Henrietta melted into her seat sadly at the final conclusion.
“Fine. Abby, would that be something you have time to do?” She asked.
“Let me check our calendar and call you.”
“Or call Nora!”
I giggled a bit and looked to my newest edition force a soft grin at the non-business related topic at hand. The sheer enthusiasm from her mother told me everything that I needed to know, Nora had been single for far too long, living a bit sedentary like me. Luckily for me, I didn’t have any parents anymore to nag me about it.
Nora slipped on tan criss-cross sandals to walk us outside to the door, where we headed for the truck, but not just before she gripped my bicep. I turn with hot curiosity to the woman who now stands slightly above me the peak of the morning glistening on her face.
“Sorry, she can be a bit dramatic.” She apologies.
“It’s perfectly fine, it’s good you still have her,” I add.
“Listen Abby, this blind date was unusual but I feel like we can take a drink and learn more about each other. Or I could cook you breakfast this weekend, whatever you want.” She smiled.
I nodded casually but was internally on the brink of combustion, her initiative surprised me and I was upset I couldn’t approach her first, but I was pleased.
“Absolutely, your mom took the liberty of texting me your contact so no worries I’ll be in touch.” I mimic her soft smile.
“Perfect. Hope to hear from you soon.”
“Whatever we decide to do I’d love to see you in some lavender.” I wriggle my fingers.
She nods her head and my knees could’ve buckled then and there but instead I step back and turn to face the truck.
“Fuck,” I whisper. “Sorry.”
I jog slightly to the truck and unlock the door for my poor assistant who had to see the most unprofessional display of interaction with a client on her first day. I cut the AC on quickly and lean back in the driver’s seat to look over at her. But I couldn’t read her, was she upset or confused? I couldn’t tell.
“How about we get you home, I’m headed—“
“Could you take me to Ellie’s? She’s just off the second exit on the highway.” She request then buckles her seatbelt.
“Of course.”
—
Last night I promised myself to sort through the regular onboarding paperwork so I could pay my new addition for her time as soon as possible. I sat in an empty house under the hum of central air under me as I sort out the forms, some that I needed her to sign. Realistically, I could send the PDF to her email or invite her over so I can see her again. I look over to my empty wine glass and the sticky red residue settled at the bottom of the cup. My stomach tightened for the third time, but I can’t ignore it, I needed to get dinner in order.
8:53 p.m.: Need you to fill out some forms for me.
Instead of sitting and watching grey bubbles appear and disappear, I started on sorting my grocery order I placed when I came back. After my third glass of wine I decided to make a lemon garlic pasta after reading one recipe and certain that it was simple enough for me to do tonight.
I found a beer in hand and my phone in another with a caldron of a pot boiling over to the stove top. Chopped lemons lifted the scent in the house from rich to light and sweet as it grew dry on the counter. A bell-sound came from my phone and I jumped at the opportunity to read it but was highly unaware of my own mess.
“Fuck,” I holler, my screen now covered in lemon juice.
I drop my phone down on the counter amongst the ingredients and pick my angel hair pasta up, the package slips out of my hand and the threads of hard yellow sticks hit the floor. I watch them spread and roll to wherever they pleased.
My door bell hummed at the front of the house and I slightly jogged to catch it, I wasn’t expecting her to pop up now, especially in a moment like this, shit.
“Hey, I wasn’t—“
“Oh.” Nora smiled timidly.
“Nora, wow, hi.”
“Seems like you were expecting someone. I can dip out…” She offers.
“Um,” I wipe my fingers against the dish towel thrown over my shoulder. “Not at all come in.”
I slip to the side and welcome her in. Her choice of loungewear was black linen pants and an oversized Howard University sweatshirt. She left her UGG slippers near the front door and crossed her arms as she admired the room.
“Cooking or attempting to, um, in the kitchen if you wanna join me. Want a drink?”
The water in the pot dulled, most of it gone into the atmosphere or on the stove itself.
“Oh gosh, Abigail,” Nora rushed to gather the stray pasta. “I’ve never seen anyone struggle like this to cook noodles.”
If anyone else would’ve said that, I would have been highly offended but her non judgmental tone soothed me. She held them out like a bouquet before handing them to me to toss in the trash. Without thought she turned the heat off and refilled the pot carefully in the sink and carried it back.
“I have pasta in my pantry, it’s capellini if that’s okay?”
“Perfect.” I smile, clueless of what that is.
As soon as she closed the door I jolted off to the bathroom to freshen up. Stepping in front of the mirror was a live horror show. My braid was veering off to the side with flying hairs sticking up around my crown. Quickly, I untangled my hair, brushed it out and threw on more deodorant.
Nora was natural in the kitchen with her tea towel tucked in her waistband and using knives that have about as much action as me in the last five years. She brought over a much more adult bottle of a 2012-something and taught me how to identify the notes. I stood over her shoulder, watching her wrist make a swift motion out of a steel pan she brought from her home. The fragrant lemon sauce was coming together well with diced shallots and what I believe was fresh thyme, from her home garden.
She taught me how to properly swirl and plate the right portion and then store it for the days to come. We gathered at my dining table, slightly tipsy, but overjoyed at the fresh grated parmigiana’s compliment to the wine. Her lips were coated in the smooth sauce and her tongue grazed against them to clear off the residue. “I don’t remember my last home cooked meal.” I admit, chewing behind my hand.
“That’s a shame,” she sighed.
“Well, nope I just lied. My assistant’s parents invited me over for dinner, so I guess that counts. I think I was referring to more so inside of my own home.”
“Do most of your clients prepare food for you?” She chuckled uncomfortable.
“Uh, not meals but drinks, snacks, of course. They’re getting a bathroom demo and it’s a little bit exciting and I’ll be spending a bunch of time there — to be fair, I wasn’t the priority receiver of their kindness, they threw a party and invited me.”
"Great because mom can't cook." She smirked.
She twirled the last bits of the noodles around her fork and sat back to glance over to me, her hand slightly grazing her belly. My alcohol intake was far too high in the last couple of days and it was making me more and more malleable. I chewed on the corner of my lip as Nora’s eyes poured into mine seductively.
“I am overjoyed Nora, thank you.” I mumbled, wiping my mouth with a napkin.
“Me too, I’m glad I stopped by.”
I scooted my chair out to collect our dishes as her hand reached out to stop me.
“Abigail, why don’t you get that after you walk me to my door?”
All the blood rushed out of me as her dark voice beckoned me to obey.
“Well, yes ma’am.”
Nora shuffled in front of me and led me to her property, covered in healthy plants and garden decor. I guess I never really looked at the items in her yard but she had a landscaping talent.
“This is me.” She smiled before turning towards me and crossing her arms as she does.
“I’m happy to have shared a nice meal with you. Thanks for saving my dinner.”
Nora casually tucked a stray hair floating on the side of my temple and pulled it back behind my ear. “Abigail, I just followed the recipe.”
I leaned down to place a long, intentional kiss onto her right cheek, her hands came to my shoulders briefly and back to her sides as I stepped away.
“I’ll wait to see you fully in.” I gestured to her door.
꒰ঌ ໒꒱
You were waiting outside for over thirty minutes, banging your fist against Ms. Anderson’s door. One of her truck’s was in the driveway and nothing seemed out of order outside, so you were confused as to why she wasn’t coming to the door.
All your calls went straight to voicemail meaning it was dead or she turned it off entirely. You do a combination of doorbell ringing and phone calling until the door flies open. Abby stood in an unusually silky black robe with a metal baseball bat. Her usually perfectly primped hair was matted and sticking to her skin. She sighed in audible relief that it was just me.
“I heard banging,” She winced and covered her eyes with her palm.
“I’ve been calling and banging for almost an hour.” You move past her.
Wine glasses and dirty plates came in to view and a sinking feeling dropped in your belly. She had her neighbor over, she got to have dinner with Abby, touch her, kiss her, and by the looks of it fuck her too.

In Eve's experience, Users were restless sleepers. Always full of life and energy, even when dormant. She kept a keen eye on Komet even after she finished the book and he seemed to have settled - as much as humans ever did settle - just in case she needed to remind him where he was or chase off a nightmare. But none arrived, so Eve dared relax and busy herself with updating her contacts on the Grid with her and Sam's adventure and what she knew of the new arrival.
Dyson in particular was somewhere between intrigued and horrified, and even through text Eve could tell Clu had gone quiet with the icy kind of fury. She wasn't sure she wanted to know Tron's reaction, given he'd seen her message and hadn't responded.
As long as he didn't do something stupid, given he was still healing.
The advent of pink and yellow over the horizon saw Jet wake, and Eve waved to him through the cracked-open door as he left to take Marvin for a morning walk. How he could handle getting up at the crack of dawn every morning, Eve didn't know.
Komet stirred a little more some time after that, waking slow and groggy. Eve wondered if he'd ever been allowed to wake at his own pace before. "Good morning Komet." She greeted quietly, after he'd gone through a morning routine she wasn't entirely sure he was aware of doing. "Did you sleep well?"
Chapter 2: The Next Day
X
Sleep was surprisingly uneventful for the newest member of the Bradley/Flynn household. This however was all from Komet's point of view, and Eve got a completely different perspective.
Komet was out for a few hours while Eve read the book out-loud. He eventually shifted and pulled the blankets closer around him. A little bit later, Komet must've gotten too hot, as he sat up, pulled off the sleep shirt he'd put on and threw it on the floor.
Komet looked in Eve's direction, "Hm"d, and then flopped down to fall back asleep. Throughout the night, he'd twitch and mumble a few words here and there. Even snore a bit before turning over into a better position.
Somewhere closer to 6-7am, Komet grumbled awake and got out of bed. With bleary eyes, he shuffled his way to the bathroom. Eve would then hear the fact that the toilet seat was NOT put back down, but Komet did wash his hands before shuffling back in and into bed. Readers can now put that question to rest.
Come morning, he slowly woke up, but then froze at the unfamiliar surroundings. A moment later, and all the details fell into place.
The battle in Tron City. The User and the Admin. The light of the Portal and Rinzler telling him to go to it. The explosion that threw him against the wall of the Sailor. Eve and Sam. Strangers that didn't belong. No chain of command, only the last order to follow. The User leading him into the light.
He groaned as he realized that wasn't all a dream. He was here in the User world. A fish out of water. If all of that wasn't a dream and was in fact real, then...
Komet focused, shifting through his mind to see if he'd had a dream now that he was in the User world. Nope, nothing. Just and odd sense of loss.
Blue/red eyes looked out from under his covers and around the room...

Lucy Bronze x actress reader mabye Lucy and the lioness watch one of readers flims and you can make up the rest. Love ya work.
proud - lucy bronze
lucy bronze x reader

description: in which your girlfriend and her teammates come to your movie premiere to watch your highly anticipated film
warnings: so. long. i’m actually sorry, swearing
a/n: thank you for your support and request! i had so much fun! hope you enjoy!!!
⋆ ★ ⋆ ★ ⋆ ★ ⋆ ★ ⋆
you and your girlfriend, lucy met at a coffee shop a couple of years ago when she spilled her drink onto your shirt.
“shit i’m so sorry-” you make eye contact
“aren’t you?-” you both say at the same time, pulling a smile out of both of you. you both recognised each other - england’s defender and star actress.
“i’m so sorry about your shirt” she quickly took off her jacket, moving to drape it over your shoulders
“no no, please lucy, it’s fine” you smile at her to reassure her, she still places the jacket on you, she grins at you, making you feel weak in the knees, something the both of you feeling exactly the same.
“(y/n) at least let me make it up to you” she pleads, you shake your head lightly at her,
“you don’t have to do anything-”
“please” she rushes out, “i want to” she nods at you, you grab her hand into yours lightly,
“how about you take me out or something?” she grins so brightly at you, both of your cheeks turning a light pink.
“i’d love that”
the date went splendid, quickly progressing into a romantic relationship. you have been dating for 5 years, still head over heels for one another. you both share an apartment in barcelona, as well as having a small flat back in england for your work. everyone loved you both as a couple, essentially the both of you were national treasures, highly admired and respected.
—
the lionesses were beginning their training once again, meaning the both of you were in england for the time being. coincidentally, you were working on an upcoming movie which is highly anticipated all over the globe.
you and lucy were so busy, you both barely had time to see each other, schedules misaligned completely. both of you had to rely on quick phone calls, texting and quick appearances at home where you would hug and kiss and go straight off to work.
fortunately, you had a day off, keeping it secret, wanting to surprise lucy. you wave her off in the morning, telling her that you had a busy schedule today. as soon as she left, you phoned up a coffee and drink truck to go to the lionesses’ training grounds, telling them the location and time you wanted them to be there.
you race to the training grounds, knowing that they were probably still in the change room before training actually started. you told the truck where to go, standing in front of it and waiting for the team to come out. one by one, the lionesses start emerging from the training rooms, immediately smiling and bounding over to you for hugs, many of them hadn’t seen their favourite actress in a while.
you told the girls to get themselves a drink, all of them giving you appreciative words and gestures as they moved past you. you were bundled up in one of lucy’s hoodies, waiting for your girlfriend to come out - always the last one to get out, something you endlessly complained about every time you came to watch her play or train.
after a few minutes, she walks out alone, confused by all the excited chatter coming from outside. that’s when she sees it, her lovely girlfriend standing in front of her team with a giant truck making drinks for everyone. she smiles so brightly, your heart was beating so fast seeing her, like you haven’t seen her in months even though you saw her this morning.
she runs over and scoops you up into a hug, lifting you in the air, you yelp, wrapping your arms around her neck and your legs around your waist.
“baby! what are you doing here?” she exclaims, hiding her face in your neck. you move your hand to the back of her neck and her shoulder, she looks up at you, smiling brightly, you returning the cheesy grin.
“hello, you! came to surprise you of course, doing my wag duties” you wink at her and she laughs, pursing her lips up to you for a kiss that you happily give.
she holds the back of your thighs, lightly squeezing them as you both whine into the kiss, enjoying one another’s company until you heard gagging coming from behind you. the whole team, including the staff watching you both with fake unamusement. secretly so happy to see their favourite couple reunite.
lucy rolls her eyes and places you on the ground, wrapping her arm around your waist and keeping you tucked into her side.
“don’t be jealous, girls, be grateful this one here got you the free drinks” she nudges her head down, referencing you.
dutifully, everyone smiles at you “thank you (y/n)!!” sounding like you were a school teacher and they were your students.
you wave your hands, “ah don’t mention it”, you move lucy’s arm off you, her looking at you offended, you quickly peck her lips and told her to get a drink, begging her not to spill it on you, and telling her that you would be right back. you move to find england captain, and a close friend, leah.
“leah, do you mind calling a team meeting for me?” she looks at you confused, “why, love?”, you pout up at her, “just do it” you plead, she smiles at you, ruffling your hair and calling everyone to stand around the both of you for a team meeting, lucy standing with her arms folded against her chest, glaring at you for pulling away from her just moments before.
“my lovely national treasures” you start smiling, “i was wondering if all of you were free next week friday?” lucy is the first one to speak up,
“why, baby?” she was scared you were inviting them to your house.
“well, lucia” giggles were heard and lucy glares in the general direction,
“my movie premiere is that day and i would love nothing more than for all of you to come”
excited chatter and smiles amongst the group occurs, you smiling brightly at everyone and becoming slightly shy, you slowly move up to lucy, grabbing her hand for some comfort, her immediately giving it to you when she places a kiss on your cheek and holding you close. her fake grudge disappearing.
everyone told you they would be there and began to walk to the pitch for training. lucy holding you back and kissing you passionately,
“listen here, woman. you move away from me like that again and you’ll lose privileges”
“woah what! what privileges” you pout,
“um, well. i don’t know yet but you will!” she points her finger at you and you place a kiss on it. she can’t help the smile that takes over her face when you do so.
“go on bronze, training time” you push her towards the pitch, placing a kiss between her shoulder blades. she laughs brightly at you, “come and watch me?” you scoff offendedly at her,
“duh, i’m a wag” she smiles at you, grabbing your hand and making you sit in a spot she knew you would have direct view of her.
the whole training session, she purposely flexes her muscles, legs and arms putting on a show for her special girl. she knew you were freaking out right now, her suspicion correct when she sees you sitting in your spot with wide eyes, hands covering your mouth. she grins at you, waving her hand hello, laughing when you didn’t wave back, just shaking your head in response.
—
it was premiere day, unfortunately, you had to get ready separately from lucy, you woke up extra early to buy her a bouquet of flowers and writing her a note:
hello my love,
can’t wait to see you later, sexy
sorry we couldn’t get ready together, stay tuned for the dress reveal on the red carpet,
i love you, baby,
see you soon
<3 your love, (y/n)
she immediately calls you when she finds the note, you answer on the first ring, “hiya baby!” you gleam,
“my lovely girl, i’m so excited to see you! did you get your gift” she questions,
“what gift-”
as if on cue, your hotel door has a knock, and you open the door to the biggest bouquet of flowers you had ever seen, you quickly accept and go back to your phone.
“baby! we’re soulmates i think, same idea”
“oh we’re definitely soulmates, baby girl” you can hear the smirk in her voice.
“i’ll let you go baby, i’d so give you a big kiss right now so pretend please” she mocks
“yes bronzey, you got it!” she laughs at you through the phone, hanging up the phone after you both say goodbye.
—
you looked good. you looked so good, you were honestly worried for the well-being of your girlfriend. there was a little backstage area that you were waiting in, lucy and the other girls were set to come soon, as you wanted to take as many pictures with them as possible, as well as needing your date for the movie premiere of course.
the england girls start to fill up the room, everyone gasping when they see you, telling you how beautiful they look.
“holy fuck, (y/n/n)! you look so hot!” leah exclaims, running to give you a gentle hug, not wanting to ruin your outfit or hair.
“thanks lee lee” you smile at her, the rest of the girls coming over and chatting with them, so happy they were able to make it.
in nature, your girlfriend always the last one, comes in and her jaw drops when she sees you. she walks outside of the room when she sees you.
“lucy!” you exclaim as she leaves the area, she comes back in, extremely red at your appearance. the girls move away from both of you, engaging in their own chatter before it was time to walk out.
“baby” she breathes out closing her eyes, “you look breathtaking, so incredibly gorgeous” you blush at her words,
“oh stop it” you gasp,
“no, you look beautiful and you need to know it” she grabs your hips and gives them a light squeeze.
you placed your arms on her biceps, lightly scratching exposed arms from her vest.
“look at you missy, you look amazing” you shamelessly check her out and she squeezes your hips again.
“i want to kiss you so bad but i don’t want to mess up your lips” she says, eyes flickering between your eyes and lips.
“give me a peck then, baby, don’t leave me hanging” you pucker your lips up and she places a sweet kiss on your lips, smiling as you wipe your lip product off her lips. you hear your name being called, lucy places her hand on the small of your back as she directs you to the carpet. the girls cheering as you walk past, you wave and tell them that you want pictures with all of them and they all nod excitingly.
you and lucy take the carpet, everyone excited to see the both of you, numerous pictures being taken of you together and solo. you gesture for the girls to come out and they all rush onto the carpet. you standing with them and sharing cheesy grins, having so much fun with your girlfriend and your shared friends.
after some more pictures and interviews, everyone moved into the theatre. you and lucy sat in the front row with the rest of the girls. you get called up for a speech, everyone cheering as you make your way to the stage.
you smile brightly, making eye contact with lucy and she winks at you for encouragement.
“uh hello everyone! welcome to the movie premiere of (movie name)!” everyone cheers again, “thank you everyone for making it out today, i’m so excited for you all to see our hard work for the past 2 years, i want to first thank my family for their love and support” you pause as people cheer, “i also want to thank all the fans and staff that made this movie possible, i’d also like to thank my lovely friends who came today, also known as the lionesses who have been nothing but supportive for this film” everyone cheers louder, mainly the team themselves,
“finally, i want to thank my person, my soulmate, lucy” you look at her as you speak, “baby, thank you for being authentically you” you start to choke up slightly, taking a deep breath before you speak again, “lucy has been there for me through everything, she held me when i cried, endlessly giving me hugs and kisses and telling me that she’s proud of me everyday. i’m proud to be your partner and hopefully a future bronze” you wiggle your left hand and everyone laughs, you look at lucy, both of you lightly crying and her smiling up at you with so much love and adoration.
“thank you for everything, baby, i love you” she mouths the words back at you and you smile, lightly wiping your tears.
“now let’s get this show on the road, enjoy everyone and let’s go england!” everyone cheers loudly as you make your way over to your seat, the girls smiling at you, many of them with matching tears in their eyes.
as soon as you sat down next to lucy, she grabs your hand and places her other hand on your chin, directing your eyes to her.
“i’m so proud of you, my love, i love you so much” she smiles at you, a tear rolling down her cheek, you move your free hand to wipe it off and return the smile.
“i love you more, baby”
the movie went exceptionally well, everyone absolutely loving it and it skyrockets on the charts. england winning their tournament also. you and lucy were both so proud of each other. both of you doing what you do best. and by the way, you were made a bronze, both of you even more proud about that.

ೄྀ࿐ ˊˎ- Accountant Jim Romantic Headcanons
——————————————————————————————————
•] First things first, you would not become hungry if you're his partner. Every time you step into the kitchen, you will notice that he had whisked up yet another delicacy while you were away.
"Honey...! Come here for a second, I want you to taste this new recipe I made!"
•] He's smiling, grinning from ear to ear while his apron is covered with batter and flour. He wants to hear your opinions towards his progress in cooking/baking. It doesn't matter if you give it a harsh rating, he'll be upset, sure, but that's okay! That just meant that he can still improve.
•] His nicknames revolve around sweets and pastries! He's calling you Honey, Bunbun, Sweets... Some of them are cheesy but it's the thought that matters. He has a passion for cooking/baking, and with him calling you the things he love, it just reflects how passionate he is about you as well.
•] It's actually not that hard to make him flustered. Tease him or compliment him and he's rubbing the back of his head with a red face.
"Wait... Huh? M-me...? Handsome? H-honey... I—you're too sweet. Come on, you're making me blush..."
•] Please compliment him often. He doesn't receive it from anybody else other than you and Mayor Monty :(
•] He's actually quite shy when it comes to kisses. Like I mentioned earlier, he's quite easy to fluster! So, tackle him with a surprise kiss on the lips and all of a sudden, he's a puddle on the floor. He's blushing, stumbling over his words while he's processing what just happened. You can take this chance to pepper him with more kisses but once you're done, you're left with a very smitten Jim.
•] Hold him, he might faint...!
•] Nonetheless, one thing to mention is that he can get too generous and gullible. During his time with the miners in the mines, he considered giving them a raise to boost their morale, even though they were literally giving him dirty looks.
•] He realized that there was still some space for raises in the budget so he chose to give it to them rather than keep it all to himself. That's why a lot of people have kept their eyes on Jim in hopes of manipulating him for their gain. Besides, they know how close he is to Mayor Monty, so please, keep an eye out for him.
•] His love languages are easily acts of service and physical touch. After a long day of work, he would just collapse into your arms, pulling you close to him while your scent reminded him that he's home. He's closing his eyes, allowing his muscles to relax while he snuggles with you.
"Bunbun, you will never believe what happened today..."
•] Talking about snuggling, it doesn't matter if he's the big spoon or not. You want him to become the small spoon for tonight? No complaints here! As long as he gets to wrap his arms around you and cuddle, he can go either way.
•] Naturally, it's easy to get sick due to the sudden change of weather in Roadtown. But don't worry! Your househusband, I mean—Jim, is coming to your rescue! He's holding a spoonful of soup to your mouth while you lay in bed, sick and bedridden.
"You'll get better soon. I promise you, Honey... Does your head still hurt? After you eat, I'll give you some medicine, okay?"
•] You don't know how he did it but the soup was absolutely phenomenal. It's like he laced it with sorcery or something. I mean, it's soup! How do you even...?! Ahem. Moving on...
•] Even before Roadtown was covered with snow, Jim often went around with a camera. He's dragging you to a spot around the town where no one usually goes, telling you to pose for a photograph. And you know what? His shots are pretty good.
•] You're his muse, and he loves taking photographs of you. Occasionally, there would be shots where you were not ready but would he throw them away? Absolutely not! He loves capturing every piece of you, flaws and all. Some of them are silly but... He doesn't care. Every photograph matters to him. He looks at every detail in the photos, smiling brightly as each one showcases well... you. Each one may be different but it's. still. you.
"Beautiful... dazzling as always, Honey! Why don't we take another photo, please? This would be the last one, I promise. Huh...? What do you mean I said that last time?"

"Hi Will," Ed greeted the robot. The sound the helping hand made was... concerning, but whatever it is, he knows it's not the helping hands' fault.
He smiled brightly at the stack of notebooks. "Thank you, friend!"
Before he could get to the notes, however, another approached... and delivered him a thumb drive. He frowned in confusion for a moment, but then recognized the writing on it Astraeus.
He held it in his hand as though breathing wrong would damage the storage device and program within, and stared at it as though looking away would cause the drive to vanish. The program on it had been Eos's twin, a VPN meant to obscure the sending and receiving locations of Eos's encrypted messages. Astraeus had been damaged in the same attack that had damaged Eos, except had ended up worse to the point where Ed had to take him off the server to repair him.
"You found him?" Ed all but whispered in awe. He watched the helping hand roll away, clearly mildly concerned by the obvious look of plotting. Ed would not interfere with that one.
Ed shook his head. Astraeos had waited a long time, but right now, Ed had to prioritize the newest addition to his constellation of programs He tucked the thumb drive into his shirt pocket, and finally turned to the stack of notebooks. He skimmed through the stack, then sat back down at the terminal.
::I'm back,:: he messaged Eve. :: Found Flynn's notes... the hands found my father's.... Among other things. How are you and Clu doing?::
@not-that-dillinger Continued from here because it apparently doesn't want me to reblog it...
Nitro shuddered softly. "There's... two kinds of reprogramming." He explained haltingly. "That we have experience with, at least."
"One's... medical, I guess. Repairing damage, making improvements, averting obsolescence... all done by Users or trained Medic Programs. Good thing, if a bit... disconcerting when you're not used to it."
"The other's Clu's specialty. He calls it rectifying. It's... it's hacking, I guess, given a fancy name, but it's so much worse than being infected with a Virus or a User breaking in to edit a Program's function without access rights allowing them to."
"It strips away everything that makes someone who they are. Memories, functions, personality, thoughts, hopes, dreams... all gone." Nitro looked away, clenching his fist. "He did it to so many. Friends became enemies in... well. Fractions of a second for you, our equivalent of minutes. Hundreds, if not thousands, wiped clean except for what he wanted to turn them into. Disposable armies, mostly. Bodies to throw at what few held out against him. He- even Tron was brought down eventually. Our stronghold, Eve, my kids... we're the last of the resistance, maybe forty fighters strong, the rest all refugees. It- for all I know, it could be just me now."
#/* OHH THIS IS GOOD!!! */#/* I was kind of thinking about bringing Eos in on the other thread but iirc Ed told Alan he found him... */#/* Eos went missing on the server though not a usb vanishing... time to go check my notes on his siblings! */#/* I thought I had more notes on Eos and his siblings but nope... time to flesh out another of Ed's programs! */#/* ... Or hello entirely new OC */#/* up to you whether Yori or Eve has ever met either of them */#/* Also the thought of Tangles plotting vengeance by stealing all of Mackey's cables#(his laptop charger. The ethernet cable. HDMI cables or Aux cables... the electrical wiring from the walls if it can safely access that) */#/*... is incredibly hilarious to me. */#/* Decided the proper word for a collection of programs is constellation like a murder of crows or parliament of owls... */#/* primarily by Eve calling every beta brightling or starshine or little light (in this thread and your others...) */#rp#muse: ed dillinger jr#rp-026#evecolourshock

Nanny Belle and the Midnight Princes pt2
Nanny Belle does her best to keep her favorite little princes entertained, while welcoming the kids from Jade, Benitoite, and Obsidian too. Diplomatic crises, chaos, and cuteness everywhere! Approx. 2800 words
“Can I help you?” Nanny Belle put herself between the dangerous looking Obsidianite and the princes, wondering how he got past the nursery guards. She didn’t know who he was or what he wanted, but she wasn’t letting just anyone stroll in.
“I need to check the room. Out of the way.”
“I’m afraid I can’t let you past. You aren’t on the guest list.” Belle stood her ground, trying to see behind him so she could signal a guard.
The man’s hand brushed his hip as if he was used to carrying a weapon. “Move, or -”
“Don’t be such a bully. The Rhodolitian princes aren’t going to murder me. I’m in less danger here than home.” A small, pale boy stepped past the man, and surveyed the room. His eye lit on Chevalier and a smile spread across his lips. “There you are.”
“Not you again,” Chev groaned.
Nanny Belle knew who he must be. The younger Obsidian prince, Gilbert. He wore an eyepatch, and carried a small, worn plush bunny rabbit. “Prince Gilbert. Be welcome.”
The little boy’s one uncovered eye scanned her as if she were a page in a picture book. It felt as if he peeled back her polite smile and proper manners, to see right inside her to the real person underneath. It was unnerving. “Thanks! I’m gonna go play with my best friend.”
Behind her, she heard Chevalier sigh. “That’s wonderful.” Belle wasn’t sure what kind of play Gilbert meant. Chev didn’t like children’s games, but she hoped whatever he wanted to do, the two of them would have fun. It would be good to have someone that could pull the quiet blonde prince from his shell.
Prince Gilbert plopped himself down beside Chevalier and pulled out a book of his own. “Have you read this one?”
Belle didn’t get to hear Chevalier’s reply as the Obsidian serving man took her attention again.
“I will be here, by the door. Watching.” The man’s grim voice felt out of place in the brightly decorated room, with the laughter of children as counterpoint. “Should anything happen -”
“Walter, leave the nanny alone.” Prince Gilbert’s voice was anything but childlike as he addressed his servant, one bright scarlet eye fixing the man from across the room.
Walter, the servant, bowed low and gave Nanny Belle a nod. Then he stepped to the side, just in time for Clavis to come barrelling through the door with a young girl in close pursuit.
“Stop right there! Stop! Someone stop him!” The little girl skidded to a halt just past the doorway as Clavis tucked himself behind Nanny Belle’s skirt.
“Princess Mirielle, why are you chasing Prince Clavis?” Nanny Belle knew who the girl was the moment she opened her mouth. The slight Jadean accent combined with her fine clothes and imperious manner left just the one option.
“I can answer that.” Sariel followed a little ways behind the girl. He had another child with him. A small boy, about Luke’s age, with the Jadean royal look about him. Golden eyes and light, olive toned hair. He had some bright colored goo around his mouth, as if he’d tried to eat a particularly vibrant crayon.
Princess Mirielle stomped her foot. “That - that monster tried to poison my baby brother!”
Sariel’s lips curved up in a tiny smile before he caught them and forced his expression back to one of severe neutrality. “Prince Clavis, is this correct?”
Clavis, hanging tightly to Belle’s skirt, peeked around her to look at the councillor. “No! I just made him a snack. But the cookies we found were boring, so - so I added some stuff. But it’s not poisonous!”
“And what did you add to make the cookies . . . not boring?” Sariel’s left brow rose a fraction.
“Umm . . . some rhubarb custard because it was such a nice color pink, and a dollop of caviar, and a pickled herring! I was going to put a strawberry on top but I couldn’t find any.” Clavis smiled brightly, clearly proud of his efforts. “It was the most funnest thing I ever tasted!”
Nanny Belle kept a sigh on the inside. “I see. Thank you for telling us Prince Clavis. But next time you want to share a special snack with a new friend, you need to check with me, ok? Prince Tio might not like the same foods you do, or he might be allergic.”
Mirielle stomped her little foot again. “It was disgusting! I demand he be punished!”
Sariel didn’t miss a beat. “You have my word that there will be consequences, princess. I will see to it myself. But for tonight, please let bygones be bygones.”
She looked as if she might argue, but Prince Keith stepped in, a gentle smile on his face. “Come on, sis. Tio is just fine. Right, Tio?” He ruffled his brother’s hair affectionately.
Prince Tio laughed and hugged his big brother. “Yep!”
Mirielle relented, though she still gave Clavis a suspicious glare as she walked past him to the toy chest in the corner.
Belle shared a look with Sariel. This was going to be a challenging evening. She was intensely glad for the servants helping out through the room, but it was up to her to keep all these little royal kidlings entertained until the party ended.
“You’re doing wonderfully,” Sariel mouthed silently, his gaze warm. Aloud he said, “I trust you have it from here. I will be back later to check in.” He gave her a slight bow, and hurried out, back to his duties.
Nanny Belle turned to take in the scattered children. Leon was still on the balcony, looking wistfully toward the ballroom. The lights and music from the celebration carried all the way across the palace grounds. Luke was sitting and munching happily on a honey roll, while Gilbert chattered to Chevalier in the corner.
Prince Keith was showing his siblings the telescope on the balcony under the suspicious gaze of Licht. Nokto was smiling at Princess Mirielle, while Yves played quietly with a set of toy soldiers at a table. Jin was drawing in his sketch pad, glancing up occasionally to check on his brothers. And Clavis - where was Clavis? He’d been right behind her.
Just as Belle was about to panic over a lost prince, one of the guards came in with the missing boy tucked under his arm. “My lady, this one was trying to follow Sariel out. Where should I set him down?”
“On the bench there, where I can see him.” Nanny Belle gave the prince a sharp look. “Prince Clavis, you know you are meant to stay here at our party.”
He gave a heavy sigh, shoulders falling. “I just wanted to go help Sariel. He said he’s real busy tonight.”
Belle could tell he was genuine in his desire, even though Clavis’ help often made more work than it ever resolved. Still . . . “I see. Well . . . would you be willing to help me tonight instead? I’m quite overwhelmed with all these foreign dignitaries here.”
Clavis studied her with his bright gold gaze, then grinned broadly. “I will be the best helper ever!”
“Wonderful.” Nanny Belle ruffled his hair. “Since nearly everyone is here, I think we should play a fun game. Would you help me set up a place for duck-duck-goose?”
“Yes!” Clavis clapped his hands together. “I’ll get some cushions!”
Belle watched him race off to get started. She intended to keep a close eye on him, but just then one of the maids brought Rio in from his nap. The little blonde moppet looked every part a little prince, in a blue velvet onesie with an adorable light blue sash and fancy cufflinks.
Rio smiled when he saw the nanny and held out his arms to her.
“Aren’t you just a cutie?” Nanny Belle took him from the maid, listening as she gave a quick update on him. She thanked the maid and then turned back to check on Clavis. The cushions were all laid out and ready for duck-duck-goose. She didn’t see anything obviously suspicious about them either, but went to check anyway.
Clavis hurried to her, stepping right in front of the arranged cushions. “Did I do a good job, Nanny?”
“It looks great.” She eyed the little prince, trying not to look suspicious. “Why don’t you let everyone know it’s time to play a game, hm?”
“Yes!” Clavis raced off, shouting at the top of his lungs, “Time for duck-duck-goose!”
Belle leaned down and lifted one of the cushions, checking it for the usual. Itching powder, sticky jam, dye . . . it seemed completely clear. She set it down, mildly surprised. “Alright. I guess he really did just set these out like I asked. Hm.” She put Rio down on the one she checked as the other kids came over.
“I heard you the first time,” Jin sighed, as he came strolling over.
“Yeah. First time,” Luke echoed, putting a little, sticky fist on his hip.
Prince Keith came over, with Mirielle and Tio in tow. Mirielle went for the fanciest cushion on the floor. It was light green, with delicate lace stitched across the cover in a floral pattern. The moment she sat down, a loud toot sounded from beneath her.
Mirielle jumped up, her cheeks stained bright red. “That wasn’t me!”
Keith was looking at her with raised eyebrows, unsure how to react, while Tio giggled. Jin was struggling to keep his expression neutral, but Luke wasn’t old enough to understand and he was laughing too.
Belle didn’t need to guess what happened. She could see Clavis’ grin from across the room. She hurried over and knelt down to pull a leather sack from under the pillow. It was supposed to be used as a bed warmer, with hot water, but someone had filled it with air and left the valve open just enough to make noise when it was squeezed. “Ah! I was looking for that. I am so sorry Princess Mirielle. I don’t know how it found its way under your pillow.”
The princess crossed her arms. She clearly wanted more, but was struggling with her emotions.
Keith came to her rescue. He grabbed the bed warmer from Belle’s hand and stuck it under his pillow, then sat down hard to expel the last of the air from it in a loud, obnoxious honk. This set Tio to laughing even harder, and even the other princes cracked a smile. “Oh! Now I’ve done it too!”
Mirielle looked at him, and then at the other princes. She seemed to consider whether or not she should stay angry, then sighed and sat down carefully. “Fine. But I don’t forgive whoever did that.”
“Yes. Whoever that might be,” Chevalier commented from his reading spot.
“Aren’t you going to come play,” Leon asked.
“Absolutely not. I have no interest in such a ridiculous game.” Chev looked back down at his book.
Gilbert stood up from beside him. “I’d like to play.”
At this, his servant Walter took a step forward. “I can’t allow that. This game -”
“Can’t allow?” Gilbert’s red gaze fixed on his servant. Some silent struggle continued between the two of them. Nothing was said, just a long, intense look.
Walter’s face went red, staining him from eartip to eartip. He bowed his head, looking down.
Gilbert said nothing for several tense moments, then sat again. “I’d rather read with Chevalier anyway. I’m too old for duck-duck-goose.”
His servant didn’t respond, but his posture evinced a deep relief.
Belle wasn’t sure what was going on between them, or why it should matter if the little Obsidian prince played the game or not. Despite Gilbert’s dismissive tone, she had a feeling he really did want to play and decided she would find a game for him tonight, one way or another.
Once everyone but Chevalier and Gilbert were seated in the circle, Jin agreed to be the first goose. He stalked around the other children, a big smile on his face. “Duck . . . duck . . . duck . . .” When he got to Emidio, he tapped him and shouted, “GOOSE!”
Emidio leapt up and chased him around the circle, just a hair too slow to catch the first prince before Jin slid into his seat. “I almost had you!”
“Almost,” Jin agreed.”
Yves snorted. “Almost doesn’t count in duck-duck-goose.”
“Almost doesn’t count in anything,” Nokto added.
“Let’s all be kind while we play our games, hm?” Belle intervened before the boys could get out of hand.
It was clear that Emidio’s pride was stung, but there was nothing to do for it now. Belle watched as he made his way around the circle, tapping each person. “Duck. Duck. Duck.” When he got to Rio, he poked a little harder than necessary and shouted “Goose!”
Poor Rio, barely old enough to understand the game, struggled to his feet. He rubbed the back of his head, lower lip trembling. Just as Belle was about to step in, he lurched after Emidio. Of course, he had no chance to catch the older boy. Emidio plopped down in Rio’s spot a moment later, leaving the toddler to continue the game.
Belle wasn’t sure if he quite understood, but Rio surprised her with a gap-toothed grin. Then he started his own walk around. “Du-du-duh-”
“Duck, ya moron,” Silvio snapped. “D-u-c-k. Duck. Why’re we letting this idiot pup play anyway?”
Rio slapped the back of Silvio’s head and shouted, “Goose!” Then ran pell-mell around the circle, practically falling into Silvio’s spot as the Benitiotian prince reacted with surprise.
It was the first time Belle ever saw Rio do something . . . mean. He’d been careful tapping the other kids, but the slap to Silvio’s head was definitely not accidental. She couldn’t exactly blame him though. Silvio was quite rude.
“That - snot nosed little - I demand he be punished! Ya can’t just slap a prince!” Silvio’s voice was shrill and his jewelry jangled as he gesticulated at the toddler who now sat smugly in his spot in the circle.
Belle curtsied. “I’m sorry, Prince Silvio, on behalf of Rio. He’s still growing and isn’t always very coordinated.”
Silvio looked like he might say more, but all the other royalty were looking at him. After a moment, he deflated, grumbling under his breath. Then he started around the circle.
Nanny Belle was a little worried he would try to revenge himself on Rio, but instead he tagged Leon, who gamely went for Keith. Keith grinned when he was declared goose.
“I’m not very good at these kinds of games, but let’s see . . .” Keith went around the circle twice, pretending to ignore his little brother who obviously wanted to be tagged next. When he ‘goosed’ Tio, the little prince leapt up with a happy grin and chased his older brother around the circle, just a hair too slow to catch him even though it was clear that Keith wasn’t really trying to escape.
Tio giggled when Keith plopped down in his spot. “Oh no! Now I get . . . umm . . .” Tio’s eyes went wide as he realized his predicament. He could pick his sister, Luke, Licht, or Nokto. Mirielle arched an expectant brow, but Tio went around her with a quiet ‘duck’, and passed Licht and Nokto as well. He got to Luke and the two little ones exchanged a wide, expectant grin. “Goots!”
Luke wobbled to his feet and the two of them chased each other around the room, running wide of the circle on their chubby toddler feet.
“Hey! That’s not fair! That’s cheating!” Emidio glared at the two little ones.
Licht sighed and shook his head. “It’s not cheating unless it gives an advantage. They just aren’t playing the game right.”
Belle shooed the two back toward the circle, but their flight around the room effectively ended the game. Thankfully, it was dark enough outside to guide them out to the balcony, where they could take turns on the telescope.
Even Chevalier and Gilbert joined the group for this event, excited to get to see the stars through the refractory lenses. Nanny Belle watched them with a cautious eye, making sure everyone got a turn, adjusting the telescope as needed while the stars marched across the velvet black sky.
The party in the ballroom was still going strong. Music echoed from the open windows, and the sound of laughter. Belle was glad she didn’t need to attend such events. The bickering nobles and the moody king held no allure for her. She knew it wouldn’t be long before Jin and Chevalier would be required to attend. And where Chevalier went, Clavis would follow.
Clavis.
Her eyes darted around the balcony. He wasn’t waiting to look through the telescope. When had he . . . then she remembered. Just as everyone else sat down to play, where he’d positioned the pillows well away from the door, Clavis had slipped away.

Chapter 1.
From light to darkness.
The man falls down. Hitting the rocks several times, he tore his fur coat. He landed on the amber flowers, losing consciousness.
Some time passed and the man woke up. Nearby lies a broken lantern with a fallen candle, a warm hat with a ponytail and several pieces of cloth from a human's fur coat. Trying to stand up, pain ran through the human's entire body, forcing him to stay in place for a while longer. Turning his head a little, the human looked around, seeing the situation around him: A cave illuminated by a huge hole from above, into which the human fell. A few snowflakes fell from above, falling on the hair. Steeling himself, the human stood up, overcoming the pain in his body.
Bending down and gathering his things, the way ahead appeared. The human walks forward, turning into a stone arch, beyond which there was an impenetrable darkness. The human took a step, then another and another, until he stepped on something prickly. It was a vine. A thorny vine. Suddenly, the vine moved, as did many others hiding in the darkness. A voice was heard:
«Who's here…?»
The owner of the voice was illuminated by a thin beam of light from the surface. It was an amber flower.
«Ah, it's a human. What are you doing in such a dark place?»
The vines were all around.
«Don't worry, I'll help you light up everything here.»
The vines suspiciously stopped.
«WITH YOUR SOUL!»
Suddenly, the vines abruptly moved towards the human, intending to pierce through. But suddenly there was a burning smell. The vines that clung to you burned up before they reached their destination. The flower reacted immediately.
«Damn it! It's her again!»
The flower hid in the ground, and the vines moved away. A mysterious figure stepped out of the darkness towards a thin ray of light. The hood cast a shadow over the figure's face.
«Oh…?»
The doubled sound that the figure made was feminine. Although the human couldn't see the face, he could feel the stranger's surprised gaze.
«A child? Why are you here without a light?»
The figure came a little closer, looking down at the person she was protecting. Less than a second later, a small light illuminated the stranger's face before she spoke.
«I am Toriel. Guardian of the ruins. And who are you?»
The man hesitated before answering:
«I am Evel.»
Toriel gave him a long look before letting out a small laugh.
«Nice to meet you, Evel. Come with me if you're afraid of the dark.»
She let out another soft laugh as she walked off into the darkness ahead. Evel decided to follow her, feeling the gaze from the shadows around him.
Chapter 2.
Fireflies?
Evel walked until his nose bumped into something. It was something that made a familiar feminine voice:
«Oh! Be careful, kid. Let me light it up.»
After a few seconds, the fire in Toriel's hands illuminated the thick darkness.
«That's much better, don't you think, Evel?»
«Yes… that's better.»
Evel looked at the broken lantern in his hands. Toriel noticed the sadness in his eyes.
«Don't be sad, child. I'm sure we can fix it. Do you have a candle?»
Evel rummaged in the pockets of his torn sponge and took out a fairly heavy candle. Toriel held her fire to the wick, and it lit up. Evel inserted a candle into the broken lantern, and the familiar, warm light warmed his soul.
«Thank you… Toriel.»
«You're welcome.»
They continued on their way, but a closed door blocked their way. However, Toriel did not show any anxiety or uncertainty. Tapping on one of the bricks, then on another and another, she opened the door.
«Go ahead, Evel. I'm sure you'll like what you see.»
Evel walked forward, a little apprehensively, but when he entered, his gaze could not tear itself away from the magical picture. Many strange fireflies were flying near the ceiling, creating the illusion of a starry sky.
«It's beautiful…»
«I know. These fireflies are always shining brightly. Do you know why?»
Evel hadn't expected such a question.
«Because… are they fireflies?»
Toriel was laughing softly.
«Ho-ho-ho, no, child. These fireflies are shining so brightly because they are not fireflies. It's the light.»
«The light? How is that?»
Toriel frowned a bit before answering.
«During the war between humans and monsters, there were two forces: Light and darkness. Both monsters and humans used light to use magic, but monsters succeeded by being created from light themselves.»
Evel listened intently, but Toriel fell silent. The silence lasted for quite a long time, until the man broke it with his question.
«Can I… use magic?»
Toriel seemed to come out of a trance, shuddering a little.
«Of course you can, you're human.»
«Then, teach me.»
Toriel looked at the man, and her gaze changed from mild surprise to gentle concern.
«Okay, kid. Let's move on, I'll teach you.»
Evel skipped along while Toriel walked thoughtfully forward, wondering if she was digging her own grave.
Going out into the next room, they were both greeted by a mannequin. Toriel moved slightly to the side, not getting between the mannequin and the man.
«In order to use magic, you need to focus. It may take a long time, but I'm sure you can do it.»
Evel nodded enthusiastically and fixed his gaze on the mannequin. At first, he couldn't focus, constantly shifting his gaze to the sides. But a strange feeling filled his chest as he continued to just stare at the mannequin. Several fireflies landed on Evel's chest.
«Okay, now imagine the fire that you want to release. Hold out your hand and imagine.»
Evel silently obeyed the instructions, stretching out his hand and closing his eyes. There was a vivid image in my head of a light that illuminated the darkness. With an exhale, a small light appeared in Evel's hands, illuminating everything with its purple color. Toriel smiled.
«Well done, Evel. You did it. Open your eyes.»
When Evel opened his eyes, there was no limit to his happiness.
«Hooray, I did it! Thank you, Toriel.»
Evel ran over and hugged the robed figure, which made her heart skip a beat. She gently and timidly put her hand on the human's head, stroking his hair. But soon, Toriel pulled away, getting closer to the exit of the room.
«Let's continue on our way. My house is nearby. So let's hurry up.»
Toriel hurriedly went ahead without even waiting for Evel. However, the human followed her without noticing anything unusual before leaving the room.
Dark vines stirred in the corners of the room. With one sharp movement, they pierced the mannequin from many different directions, tearing it to pieces.
Chapter 3.
The old house.
Neither Toriel nor Evel said a word as they walked forward. Toriel seemed to be in a hurry, not even pausing over riddles and traps. Evel kept up with her, getting used to her accelerated pace, until they both reached the house. A thick tree stood directly in the way, but even so, the house was visible. Toriel moved forward, and Evel slowed down his pace. He was fascinated by a tree that grows underground, without light.
«How is it growing? There's no sun here.»
Toriel only smiled bitterly before answering:
«With magic.»
She went into the house, closing the door with a small bang. Evel stood for a few more moments before also going inside.
When he entered the house, he felt the cozy warmth of the room. Following Toriel, he couldn't help but feel a certain chill in the corridors and corners. Evel heard a crash in the kitchen and decided to check what was in there. Peeking around the corner, he saw how inept Toriel was trying to cook something. He giggled a little at the sight before leaving.
The living room seemed strangely cozy. It seemed that everything was in its place, that everything was as it should be, but empty. Something was missing from this place. Even the table seemed empty, even though there were some things on it. Evel walked over to a table that looked like it been there for quite some time. His hand casually landed on the book.
«Have you read the books?»
Evel asked, hoping for an obvious answer. And Toriel replied:
«No, I haven't been reading lately.»
It didn't work out the way Evel expected.
«Then why do you need a book?»
«To light a fireplace.»
Toriel's response was quite surprising given the book's purpose. But all thoughts were interrupted when Toriel put a plate of pancakes on the table.
«Enjoy your meal, dear guest.»
Toriel pulled back to fireplace, crouching down next to him to keep the flame burning in him. Meanwhile, Evel tentatively tasted the pancakes and they tasted… average. An oily taste remained after the strange taste. Everything seemed to be right, but something was wrong. Was it sharp? Evel swallowed hard.
«Um… what are these pancakes made of?»
«Just pancakes, why?»
«They're sharp!»
«Of course, because they're peppery.»
«What?!»
Evel was stunned by such a culinary «find.» The acridness passed, but the oily taste remained. There were still two pancakes left, and Evel wasn't sure if he could eat them. Toriel understood this, so she replied indifferently:
«You don't have to eat if you don't want to.»
She seemed cold, which was in stark contrast to the first impression she made. Evel stared at her, noticing the subtle look in her eyes and the occasional sigh.
«Is something wrong, child?»
«You seem thoughtful. Did something happen?»
Toriel didn't answer right away, but a tired smile lit up her face.
«You could say that. Still, it's not every day that a person falls here. And it's not every day that I have to take care of someone.»
Toriel sighed heavily before continuing.
«As soon as you get used to living alone, something suddenly appears that turns your routine upside down. It's exhausting.»
Toriel looked at Evel with a heavy and tired gaze, even without words showing her fatigue.
«Let me guess, you'll want to leave, won't you?»
Toriel grinned aggressively, waiting for an answer. And she waited for him.
«I… don't know where to go. Even if I want to leave here, I'll stay alone.»
Toriel softened her gaze upon hearing the uncertainty in Eveli. Her hand gently landed on his head, ruffling his hair.
«Don't worry about being alone. I… I'll always wait for you to come back if you decide to leave. I'll meet you with disgusting pancakes and a tired look.»
Toriel was now laughing softly at herself and the situation. And then some kind of warmth began to warm her leg. Evel hugged her, hugging her.
«I will definitely come back… Toriel.»
Toriel felt this warm feeling, long forgotten, but incredibly tender. She hugged Evel as tightly as she could, shedding a single tear.
«I'll be waiting… my child…»
With a soft smile and eyes wet with tears, Toriel couldn't let Evel out of her embrace. And yet, she pulled away, wiping away the unshed tears.
«Go down the stairs and walk along the corridor with a turn. There will be a door at the end of the corridor. Go through it and you will find yourself in a snowy forest. I think you'll meet someone there who will help you on your way.»
Toriel took a step to the side, not blocking the way to the stairs below. Evel took one last look at the monster that was already dear to his heart and went downstairs. Following all the directions, he reached the door that led him on. Pushing open the doors, he was greeted by a painfully familiar environment: a dark room with a single ray of light falling on a small patch of grass. Mentally bracing himself, Evel stepped forward.
«You should have known… How unlucky you are…»
A voice was heard from behind, but no one turned around. However, after looking straight again, an amber flower appeared on the lawn. His smile didn't bode well.
«So lonely… so abandoned..."
Familiar vines blocked the way back.
«No one will interfere with us this time. We're alone this time.»
There was a rustle of vines from the side, causing Evel to jump back. The vine would have almost pierced his head if he hadn't dodged. Evel wiped a drop of sweat from his helmet.
«You won't be able to get in so easily this time.»
The flower just smiled even wider. His gaze looked straight into the soul.
«Well… then let's see if you can handle it on your own.»
Small seeds appeared behind the flower. As soon as they appeared, they flew forward, aiming to punch Evel through. The vines sought to pierce or entangle.
«How sad. She sent you to die. STRAIGHT TO ME.»
Evel ran and tumbled as much as he could, just to avoid being attacked. However, the flower did not stop its attacks, standing still. Evel kept getting distracted, but as soon as the flower caught his eye, humen suddenly came up with an idea.
«And you have the courage to look into the eyes of death. Then meet her just as boldly!»
Staring at the flower, dodging attacks more instinctively than consciously, Evel was able to take advantage of it. Closing his eye, exhaling, he was able to release a small fireball into the flower.
«Ha! Do you really think you're going to hit me with this? I've been watching you, I know what you can do!»
The flower twisted, dodging the fire. Bursting into laughter, he continued his attacks, but suddenly, his laughter stopped. The smell of burning was in the air.
«And…? Eh!? What!?»
The vines were ablaze with fire, crumbling into ashes. The flower lost its guard, and Evel took advantage of it. Evel ran on, leaving the flower alone. Cool air blew in from the archway.
Chapter 4
Conductor.
Running out of the doorway, Evel instinctively locked the doors behind him. Taking a few steps back, he stared at the door until the silence confirmed that he had escaped. And then the crunching underfoot and the unusually cold breeze sobered his head. The adrenaline wore off and Evel turned around. He went out into the snowy forest. Looking into the distance, through the trees, he saw only darkness.
Evel picked up his lantern and lit the candle wick. With a source of light and warmth in his hands, a sense of security flashed through his mind. Walking forward along the path, Evel could feel eyes on him every now and then. And then the candle went out, leaving Evel in the dark. Fear gripped my lungs, but I couldn't focus. Frozen in place, human tried to calm down, under the oppressive feeling of being watched. His movements were like the twitching of a plastic figurine whose arms were about to burst. Gathering the last remnants of his calm, Evel focused. The oppressive atmosphere, the piercing gaze, the feeling of persecution – all this did not leave him. Taking a deep breath in and out, he continued focusing. With one more look and exhale, a small light glowed on Evel's finger, and there was no need for more. The wick from one contact began to burn as before. It was possible to continue the journey.
The path seemed less and less safe. Heavy branches literally dug into the ground, and sometimes they just lay around as if they were specially laid. A bridge with a wooden arch became visible in the courtyard. But the chasm beneath it was more alarming. A strange exhalation was heard, and immediately after the light went out. The same oppressive fear was not there, but the stoic feeling of looking at something did not disappear. When the lights came on again, the whole path had changed: there were no heavy sticks sticking out like ribs from under the snow-covered ground, the path itself became more winding, the bridge with the arch on the horizon disappeared. Instead of the fear of harsh darkness, the fear of being lost has come. The landmark was lost, looking back, the door from the ruins was gone. And only a couple of things remained unchanged: snow underfoot, overhead, and an oppressively heavy gaze.
Evel couldn't force them to go forward, and it was pointless to go back. His inner compass had gone astray and was spinning like a bundle. My head was spinning from the loss of space. The feeling of pressure from everything literally bent him over, and a cold void formed in his stomach. Finally, even the cold was able to break through the warm but torn fur coat. Unable to stand on his feet anymore, Evel fell to his knees. The light of the lantern faded, leaving the human in an absorbing darkness. His heart was like a drum in his ears, while the cold seized Evel's shaking body like a plague.
And then I heard the creaking of snow. Then another, and another. They were footsteps. Someone was walking towards him. Evel was ready to rejoice and cry with happiness that someone had found him, even if he didn't know who it was. He knew only two outcomes: Either he would be saved or he would be killed. With a heavy sigh and trembling lips, he could only utter:
«W-who…?»
Even a single word sucked everything out of his lungs, and the cold air cut his throat. Meanwhile, the walking figure stopped above the kneeling figure. A cold, masculine voice demanded:
«Human. Hold out your hand.»
The figure's gaze racked Evel's skull as he isolated the drumbeat of his heart from the stranger's words. Trembling and shrinking, lowering his head down, Evel held out his hand. The cold and firm touch of the bony hand only plunged further into the abyss of freezing fear. And then a bony hand abruptly pulled Evel to himself, forcing him to stand up, shaking his hand. The figure in front was illuminated by the lantern in his hand, revealing a rounded skull with a smile.
«Kid, I don't recommend standing in the snow like that. Otherwise, you'll become a bone-shaker.»
The strange pun defused the situation, confusing the already perplexed human.
«Who are you…?»
«I am Sans. Sans the skeleton.»
Evel stared at the smiling skeleton in front of him for a few more seconds, making him feel uncomfortable.
«Um… kid, can you let go of my hand after all?»
A sharp realization hit Evel's head as he released the skeleton's hand apologetically:
«Oh, I'm so sorry…!»
«Don't worry, just consider it a long greeting.»
Sans' relaxed and even lazy tone calmed human down. The fear was forgotten, and the cold receded, becoming more superficial and natural.
«How did you get here, kid? I can't believe you purposefully came here.»
Evko just kept silent, looking around.
«What is this place?»
«These are Snowdin's forests. At least the thickest part of it.»
«And what are you doing here? I think it will take quite a long time to walk here.»
The skeleton chuckled, pondering the answer.
«Just kneading the bones.»
Soft laughter echoed off the trees around as Evel laughed at the skeleton's columbus.
«Well… I'm glad you won't count them for me.»
Sans didn't change his face, but his white pupils blinked for a moment.
«You know, I'm too lazy for that, but here's my brother. He's a specialist in capturing people. After all, he's a former royal guard.»
«A royal… guard?»
Sans looked at Evel questioningly, as he looked at him.
«Haven't you seen them? They wander around in armor, searching the woods for the missing.»
«I haven't met them yet… but I felt someone's gaze.»
The skeleton grinned again, a little louder this time.
«Yeah, it gave me the creeps when I looked at you.»
«Was that you?! What for? Couldn't you come over and talk properly?»
«Oh, come on, you're fine. Besides…»
He didn't finish his sentence, stopping on the middle of a word.
«Besides what?»
Sans looked off into the woods.
«You know, we'd better hurry to the city. Don't be afraid, just follow me.»
Evel didn't understand anything, but Sans started moving away, so he had no choice but to follow the skeleton. The crunching of snow underfoot seemed so familiar and evocative that the human couldn't help but smile. Sans noticed that smile.
«Did you remember something good?»
«Not that… just glad to see something familiar again.»
«Are you saying something familiar? Is there snow on the surface now?»
«Yes… but everything is brighter than here.»
Sans didn't continue the topic. A strange structure stood out ahead. It was like a checkpoint or a counter. Sans moved behind the counter without any hesitation, shuffling under it.
«What are you doing?»
«What about it? This is my workplace. According to the cravilles, I can use it however I want.»
«What kind of workplace…? Who do you work for?»
Sans froze for a moment before rising from under the counter with a jar of some kind of sauce.
«Didn't I tell you? I'm the guide. I escort the lost to safe places where they can be taken care of. By the way, my brother is also working at this job.»
«Shouldn't you be together so you don't get lost?»
«Damn. Paps can handle it on his own, and I worked alone before him. He's quick-witted and capable.»
«You seem to appreciate your brother…»
Sans started drinking the sauce with an unchanging smile. Such a sight was amazing.
«What… is this?»
Sans paused for an answer.
«This is the sauce from my friend's bar. When we get to the city, I'll take you there. The food is delicious there.»
Evel looked at the bottle in Sans' hands, feeling something warm again. The same feeling warmed his soul when saying goodbye to Toriel.
«I… I'd love to! I'll be happy to have lunch with you!»
Evel was glowing with enthusiasm, which couldn't help but touch Sans. He grunted in his lazy way as he came out from behind the counter.
«Well, then let's not be idle. Otherwise, starvation will only leave skin and bones.»
Evel nodded, following the skeleton that lit his way through the pitch-black darkness. The lantern in the skeleton's hands began to shine brighter.
On the path that has already been traversed, the snow covers the broken lantern. Suddenly, the vine grips the lantern tightly, crushing it in its grip.
Chapter 5.
A winding path.
The snow crunched underfoot, making the silence all the more uncomfortable. Evel decided to break the silence by asking a question:
«So… How do you set routes?»
«We mostly follow the paths, but there are times when even they don't help.»
«And what happens in such cases?»
«We are guided by the compass. Snowden is located to the east of the Ruins. That's how we navigate: The West is ruins, the East is Snowden.»
«I thought you used magic for that?»
Sans laughed at Evel's naive assumption.
«I don't think any magic will help you get out of there. Even your lights wouldn't be able to stay out in the cold for long.»
«Oh… then it's clear why the singing lantern is constantly going out…»
«No, I blew it out.»
«What?! Why?!»
«Listen, kid… the light attracts the lost, but not all of them are sane. Many of them… have been in the dark for too long.»
Evel fell silent, realizing the seriousness of his words. But a sudden realization hit right after Sans' words.
«Wait… where's my flashlight?! Did I really lose it?!»
«Calm down, kid, I have my own. We'll get to Snowden, and you can buy yourself a new one there.»
«But… I don't have any money.»
Sans thought for a moment, pausing. He seemed lost in thought. Still, he gave his answer as he continued on his way.
«Then I'll give you mine. I have a lot of them.»
«Why do you need some lanterns? Will you give them to everyone?»
«No, I'm losing them. My brother often gets mad at me for this. Recently, he couldn't stand it and ordered me a bunch of lanterns to find out for sure I wasn't left without a light.»
«Your brother is caring.»
«I know. Papyrus is the best brother in the world.»
Suddenly, Sans stopped, blocking the way forward.
«There's ice next, so be careful.»
«Oh… okay.»
The skeleton stood on the ice and pushed off, sliding forward.
«Don't worry, it's easy. The main thing is not to pull your legs.»
Evel carefully stood on the ice, feeling the slippery surface under his feet. Kicking off with his foot, he easily slid forward while the cold air blew over his face.
«Wow… Get it from me-!»
Evel had barely finished speaking when he flopped onto his back.
«Ouch…»
Watching this, Sans held back his laughter, encouraging his companion.
«Come on, kid, get up. There's still a little bit left.»
Evel tried to stand up, but couldn't. His hand slipped, forcing him to lie down on the ice again. Sans couldn't hold back his laughter, bursting into it. But Evel didn't give up trying to get up, and he did.
«Ugh… I'd rather help than laugh.»
Evel was able to slide to the less slippery ground, feeling the familiar crunch of snow under his feet.
«Okay, I'm sorry, this happens when you try to ride on ice for the first time. After all, you don't live in Snowden.»
«Did other monsters from the Ruins come out of them here?»
«Do you think not? Ruins are a cramped place. It gets boring to live there for a long time. At least for young people.»
«He sounded like he was old.»
«Hey! I'll be older than you, kid. Is that how old you are?»
«I'm… 12 years old.»
«12? Hmm… you'll be older than the others…»
Sans thought about it, but Evel didn't pay any attention to it. Sans was probably comparing him to monsters. Continuing their journey in silence, they reached a snow-covered guard post.
«Oh, look! Is this your guard station too?»
«No, it's my… colleague's stuff.»
Sans visibly tensed up, looking at this place. Evel approached the counter, peering inside. Inside there were dog treats, a bowl, a scarf covered with wool and all sorts of junk.
«Was there a dog here?»
«Well, you can say that you guessed right. I think you've seen furry monsters before.»
«Ah… well, yes…»
Evel continued to inspect things until Sans pulled him back by the scruff of his neck.
«Kid, it's indecent to go through other people's things. You should know that yourself. We'd better go ahead, otherwise goosebumps are already running down my spine.»
Sans hurried away, but Evel didn't get up to object. After taking one last look at the guardhouse and shrugging his shoulders, he ran after the guide. The path ahead looked vast, with forks. Nevertheless, Sans did not get distracted from the route, clearly going in the direction that he was pointing.
«What about other places? I don't think there are dead ends.»
«There are a lot of different places, but we don't have time for them right now. I'm afraid there won't be enough candles to get around them all.»
«Aren't you taking spare candles?»
«One is always enough for me. When the candle ends, I'm already at home.»
«Well… looking at how fast you walk, I can imagine that.»
Their journey continued until the path led them to the skating rink. He was natural, but there was something unsettling about him. Sans was also a little wary.
«Listen, kid. We can't go any further. The ice is quite thin and may crack. If that happens, I don't think I can get you out.»
Sans turned around, but for some reason he didn't go back. He seemed lost in thought.
«Is something wrong?»
«When we came here, there were almost no forks. And those that were, led to dead ends. But we can't get through here. There is an option to go through the forest, but…»
«But…?»
«It's dark in the forest and no light will help you there. If we get lost, we won't be able to go back. So I do not know what to do.»
«Isn't it possible to walk along the edge of the forest? Then we'll know exactly where we are.»
«That's not how it works. When you enter the forest, you are immediately exposed to its influence. Even if we are one step away from coming out of the forest, we won't see it.»
«Oh...»
Evel fell silent, looking down. The ice really seemed thin, and water was flowing under the ice crust. If the ice cracks, everything will be swept away by the current.
Evel looked at Sans, who was still thinking, darting from option to option. When the human's gaze returned to the ice, something occurred to him.
«Okay… it might work…»
Evel walked away from the ice with leaps and bounds. But after that, he abruptly ran forward, and then stood on the ice. He was sliding on the ice at a good speed, but the damage behind him started to get bigger. The closer Evel was to the other side of the pot, the more cracks appeared. The ice cracked, making Evel flinch. Having lost his balance, he began to fall forward, straight into a snowdrift. The sound of the river running behind him drowned out many other sounds, but when Evel got to his feet, he was incredibly happy. He slipped through the river.
«I did it! Sans, did you see that?!»
When the human looked at the other shore, he did not notice the skeleton. Suddenly, there was a clap of applause from behind.
«Well done, kid! You were sliding so confidently on the ice.»
Sans ruffled Evel's hair, smiling much happier than he seemed before.
«Okay, let's move on. There's not much left.»
A suspension bridge was visible ahead. He was swaying in the wind, which did not give confidence. However, Sans seemed pretty calm. Before Evel could say a word, the skeleton suddenly pushed him forward, right onto the bridge.
«Come on buddy, I'm sure you can handle it. I'll be waiting for you up ahead.»
The bridge was swaying under his feet, not even giving Evel something to say, because it takes all his strength to maintain balance. His hands seemed frozen to the ropes of the underground bridge as he carefully stepped forward. The closer he was to the center, the more the bridge swayed. The heartbeat was drowned out by the strong gusty wind that passed through the human. And yet, halfway across the bridge, confidence began to return. The bridge stopped swinging so much, and the heartbeat subsided. When Evel got to the ground, his legs were weak and his breathing was short from exertion. And Sans was already there, patting Evel on the shoulder.
«I told you, you can handle it. Welcome to Snowden.»
As soon as Evel looked up, Sans wasn't in front of him, but he could see a lot of monsters walking down the street. Children played with each other, and older monsters decorated buildings with garlands. The whole environment was an incredible contrast to the darkness of the forest that Evel had passed through.
After catching his breath and getting to his feet, Evel moved forward into Snowden, which was glowing with the winter holiday.
Chapter 5
A great holiday!
There was a knock from the cabin as Evel passed by. It was inconvenient for him to enter uninvited, but after looking around, he suddenly notices that many monsters are just coming in and out of other monster's houses. It seemed strange, but very sweet.
«Everyone here trusts each other so much…»
Eveo looked at the house in front of him again, and decided to enter. There were a lot of different things inside, jewelry and other pieces. And a rather tall rabbit was running around the room, telling everything in its place, but at the same time making an even bigger mess. Suddenly, she noticed an unexpected visitor.
«Oh… a-a visitor…? A visitor!»
The rabbit quickly took off and jumped over the counter, standing behind it.
«W-welcome to my little shop! I'm Della. How can I help you?»
Della seemed out of breath. Looking at all the mess in the store and the feigned calmness that the rabbit was trying to show, Evel giggled a little.
«Don't worry, I just walked in. You seem very nervous.»
«Oh… not a buyer…» - rabbit lowered her ears – «Yes, today is a holiday, so we have a lot of customers…»
«What kind of holiday?»
The rabbit seemed surprised that her ears were standing up.
«Are you from Stalinism or something? I'm surprised that someone so far away came to us.»
Della cleared her throat, preparing to tell the story.
«Today is the 137th year of the bright holiday. Once upon a time, this town wasn't here, there was only a forest. But King Asgore decided to do the impossible. He gave the order to cut down the forest, and in the same month there was no forest. Today, everyone began to settle in here, but the town was increasingly covered in darkness. Many were lost in the forests and never returned. And at that moment, the royal scientist came. She turned off the lights in our town. She planted a seed that grew into a tree similar to those that grow in the forest, but it was smaller and glowed. From that moment on, we began to celebrate this bright day.»
Della opened her eyes, and Evel's admiring gaze pierced her. She got nervous and hurried to look away from him.
«A-at least that's what my sister told me, I didn't s-see those events.»
Evel was delighted by this story, but the rabbit seemed embarrassed by such a reaction. She left the Counter in a hurry, returning to cleaning the store. Picking up the toys from the floor, a human hand took them from under her nose. Evel decided to help her by collecting the things scattered on the floor. The two of them quickly laid out everything. Garlands were hanging next to the garlands, shelves were filled with toys and small treats. The rabbit looked at the room with pride.
Evel also looked around the room before leaving, but Della stopped him.
«Wait, you helped me a lot. So I can't let you go without a reward.»
She shoved a small bag into the boy's hands. There was something round and not too big inside.
«This is your payment, little helper.»
Looking inside, there were several golden balls in the bag. After counting them, there were 15 of them. Evel looked at Della with a smile and nodded to her, then ran away. The rabbit just sighed, sending him off with a warm smile.
The crunching of snow underfoot again accompanied Evel on his way. A lot of different monsters in sumotohi didn't even notice him. But the two-story house stood out from everything. It was quite painstakingly decorated and seemed to hold stories. Evel was staring at the decorated Christmas tree standing right on the roof. Suddenly, a voice was heard right in front of him.
«And I told Paps that it would attract attention.»
Evel jumped back, but when he recognized the owner of the familiar skeleton's voice, he exhaled with heavy relief.
«Sans! Don't scare me like that!»
«Oh, come on, kid. There's no need to count snowflakes.»
Sans looked away, staring at the tree as if remembering something. Eval noticed it. It seemed to him that he was sad, so he decided to break the silence.
«By the way, why don't you run around town and help with the decorations? Isn't everyone doing this?»
«Nah, I'm too lazy for that. But my brother is doing it. He has inexhaustible energy and he runs around like crazy on the eve of the holiday. He was sent to collect Christmas trees today, so he's walking in the woods right now.»
«Isn't it dangerous there?»
«Don't worry, my brother is super strong. He had been in the forest more than once. Besides, he's the one who made the plates.»
Evel just wanted to say something with admiration on his face, but suddenly loud laughter was heard somewhere near the entrance to the town.
«HYE-HE-HE-HE-HE!»
Sans' smile seemed to widen.
«And here he is. Just make friends with him. He is very sociable.»
A lot of monsters crowded around Papyrus, sorting out all those fir trees that he brought. The skeleton's smile seemed so sincere and radiant that it was blinding. He was incredibly happy.
Chapter 6.
The taste of guilt.
Papyrus fought his way through the crowd of monsters. It looked funny, considering that he was trying not to hurt anyone too much. He eventually got out and hurried towards the house, but stopped when he saw a human figure in front of him. He stood in a stupor for a few more seconds before timidly asking.
«I'm sorry… Are you human?»
Evel shook his head without hesitation. From this unequivocal confirmation, the skeleton had sparkles in its eyes.
«Wow, a real Human! I thought… hmm… However, it doesn't matter. Human, I have to give you the highest welcome!»
Papyrus picked up the little man in his arms, which caused him to get a little lost in space.
«Hey, what are you doing?»
«I want to take you to my place. I don't think it will be comfortable to communicate on the street.»
Papyrus did not wait for an answer, but immediately went to the doorway. It wasn't difficult to open it. But when the skeleton entered, he apparently did not take into account the guest on his shoulders, and Evel bumped his forehead against the doorjamb.
«Ouch!»
The skeleton immediately noticed his flaw and began to actively apologize.
«Oh, forgive me, man! I didn't mean to hurt you!»
His hand touched the bruise. It is noteworthy that his cold hand helped to ease the pain.
«Just… watch what you do next time.»
Papyrus seemed worried and guilty. So Evel decided to change the subject.
«So how do you plan to greet the guest?»
The skeleton immediately perked up, starting to fuss. He quickly ran into the kitchen, starting to cook something. And at that moment, Sans was coming down the stairs.
«I see we have a guest? I hope you're not hurt.»
Evel just pierced him with a contemptuous look, which made Sans seem even more snarkier.
«Oh, come on, don't sulk like that. In the end, he apologized to you.»
It only took a few minutes before Papyrus called Evel to him. When he arrived, there was a plate of balanese on the table with some herbs on it.
«It looks delicious.»
«Of course, because I cooked it! Just sit down and taste it.»
Evel sat down at the table. Papyrus handed the human a fork and looked at him expectantly. Evel felt like a critic whose word determines the fate of Papyrus in cooking. He carefully wrapped some baloney around his fork and ate it. It tasted delicious. The red gravy pleasantly pressed the taste of spaghetti, and the greens added flavor and crunched a little in the mouth. Evel showed a like, indicating that the dish was delicious. Papyrus sowed with joy.
«I knew you'd like it, human!»
Sans just chuckled a little before getting up from the couch.
«Okay, I'm going to Grillby's.»
Papyrus looked at him with disappointment, but answered with sufficient restraint.
«Then can you grab something for me too?»
«Of course, bro.»
Evel remembered Sans' words about a certain friend he likes to visit. The man stood up and walked over to the skeleton. Meanwhile, Papyrus felt some resentment.
«What? Kid, I understand that I promised, but this is the place… They don't really like me there, you know.»
«But you go there and chat with your 'buddy'.»
Sans fell silent. He looked at Papyrus, who looked disappointed and hurt, but kept a smile on his face. Sansa was bursting with guilt in front of her brother for his ill-considered promise.
«Okay, but don't say you didn't warn me.»
Sans' pupils darkened, and his very grimace on his face became more creepy and serious than lazy as before. When the door slammed behind them, Papyrus began to clean the kitchen with a sigh.
